a/n: Happy halloween!! again not sure where in the queue this will be post, but I do have a Scarecrow x reader fic for Halloween but I also thought I'd do a little headcanon for Lupin and the others for fun! Also because I think this idea is pretty cute…especially given these guys’ knack for disguises lol but of course there's some blushing and flustering happening this time around lol also this was slightly rush so sorry for more mistakes than usual rip
Content Warning: light flirting, subtle mentions of intimacy (mainly in Lupin's part)
Lupin and Others React to You Dressing Up as Them for Halloween
Lupin the Third
- Hey, hey, hey now! What do we have here?
- Is he looking into a mirror?
- Corny lines aside, Lupin is over the moon.
- He always did sometimes imagine you wearing his clothes...
- Granted it wasn't for a Halloween gag when you did it in his imagination...but he will take what he can get.
- As the night wears on, expect him to keep combing over you and making sure you look accurate.
- Would definitely suggest you two try and get one over on Pops (even though you don't think you look that much like Lupin)
- Lupin definitely relishes in you dressing up like him.
- He always knew you'd look cute in anything…but you look especially adorable in a copy of his signature attire.
- Maybe…just maybe he could talk into convincing you to let him help you take off your costume later…
- The poor gunslinger immediately stepped back away from you in caution.
Jigen Daisuke
- Then he took in your silly sweet giggle.
- You tipped up your version of his hat and the long fluffy wig you wore that covered your eyes much like the man before you.
- Your giggles turned into proper laughs as you took in Jigen's expression.
- “I guess I did a pretty good job, huh?”
- Jigen shook his head, but chuckled under his breath.
- “Did a good job giving me a heart attack.”
- He would never admit it out loud…but his cheeks did warm up slightly.
- Jigen never imagined the day that you would be dressed up to look like him…
- And he could never imagine how attractive you would look…
- “The only thing I seem to be missing is a certain handgun…”
- Jigen scoffed, more composed than before. “Not a chance!”
- Goemon is flustered but also baffled…
Goemon Ishikawa XIII
- He understands the traditions of dressing up in costume….just why him?
- Also who had you fitted for a kimono? You should have asked him to come with you-
- When you tell him it was a surprise for him, he has no more questions and just blushes.
- You comment about how it's far more comfortable outfit than you thought.
- You begin playing with the sleeves as you put your arms in and out through them or have them cover your hands.
- Goemon's face gets redder as he mutters at you to stop or you'll ruin it.
- He does notice you also have a saya…
- You quickly dismiss that you didn't have an actual katana, just a plastic one for the outfit.
- Goemon nods in acknowledgement, he's still in disbelief that you'd dress up as him and not for some kind of plan-
- Then he notices how your chest is somewhat exposed like his is–the heart under his chest beats a little faster…
- Before a scary thought of just how accurate was your outfit to his….
- Oh he may not live to see next Halloween...
- I don't know why but I can kind of see it being her idea?
Fujiko Mine
- Like she mentioned the idea and how cute it would be awhile back but now you actually have a good reason to dress up as her.
- Similar to Lupin, she will definitely help you complete your look so you look as accurate as possible.
- Hair, make up, clothes, shoes-the whole nine yards
- Definitely appreciates the abundance of skin that's revealed to her from you wearing her type of attire.
- Will also begin attempting to dress up like you to complete the swapped looks theme.
- At one point you two decide to put your costume through the ultimate test–
- You both roll your eyes as Lupin got far too excited over the idea of two Fujikos
- When I tell you this man has absolute stars in his eyes.
Inspector Koichi Zenigata
- He's flattered, excited, absolutely over the moon.
- Zenigata will definitely take pictures of the two of you side by side and ones with just you.
- (if it's photos on his phone, definitely expect him to have you dressed as him saved as his wallpaper)
- Will compliment your dedication to detail
- Although he will argue your vocal impression of him may need a little work.
- Zenigata is more excited about your costume than you were surprising him with it.
- May or may not take you to work and show you off a teeny tiny bit
- (and honestly most of his colleagues are just pleased that he's talking about someone/something other than Lupin)

How to trick Lupin & Co. into falling in love:
Zenigata: tell him, show him, what he deserves. Let him know he's pretty. Love him for more than his unhealthy work ethic, for more than his family legacy. Force him to take breaks from work, care for his aching bones not so he can get back to the chase but so his body can feel at ease. Give him a hug & take away that half empty bottle of booze. Be his distraction instead & don't let him feel guilty about well deserved love.
Jigen: Give him peace. Fill the world with silence, soft touches & long glances as a new form of communication. Leave space inbetween words. Allow open ended questions to go unanswered but always, always, listen with intent when he whispers out a reply. Be patient for the days where his lips spill paragraphs. Follow up on the little things. A pain he'd mentioned a while back or the worries he scarcely speaks on. Care for them both despite his bickering not to.
Lupin: Love him as an average. Be impressed at his nack for thievery yes, but be astounded at their French cooking. Focus love not at his talent for disguises but at, how in drag, she does her makeup with near perfection. Complement the way his hands seem always warm, not always acknowledging that those digets can break into any safe worldwide.
Goemon: Praise him & ask nothing in return. Clap at his swordsmanship but whisper meaningful compliments to him alone about his hair & smile. Be gentle but never afraid. Take care with what he is proud of but reason with his stubbornness when determination hurts. Care for the wounds he's gained due to over work & love the scars across him.
Fujiko: Laugh at her jokes genuinely. Tease her about the right things the right amount. Never fail to take an opportunity to woo her in public, private, loudly, silently etc. Leave her alone. Give her space but ensure she doesn't forget by not being forgettable. Be amazed but not tripped up or too tricked. Fall in love wholly but not deeply, let her open up. Be girls together, apart, & hardly against. Love what she loves hate what she hates, introduce her to new muses.

I’m eating jellybeans so it’s time for the obligatory Gang and their favorite candies headcanons!
Lupin:
* he likes sour stuff I feel like?
* also a big chocolate fan but he would rather have chocolate coins than like a chocolate bar y’know? He’s picky about that
* tbh I don’t know much about international candies but you know he stole from French candy stores (not small businesses though)
*I feel like he also chews gum based off of candies. Sour patch gum? Yes.
*also enjoys a crunchy candy
*#1 Nerds fan
Jigen:
* he’s old school about his candies but in a gross way?
*black licorice, saltwater taffy, candy cigarettes
*someone take his candy privileges away
*he does have a good amount of sense to try other stuff though
* normal choices include gumballs, jellybeans, chocolate, and good taffy like a Laffy Taffy 😌
Goemon:
* he doesn’t indulge much at first but when he does? Someone get him a bulk bag!
*despite his sensory specific choices for most foods, he isn’t picky about his candies and tries a bit of everything
*huge sweet tooth frankly
*lots of chocolate and frosting and marshmallows
*wouldn’t steal steal from the others but if he was craving candy enough he would
*he really enjoys gummy candies!
*gives the sour ones like the worms to Lupin but he enjoys a good gummy bear
Fujiko:
*she’s classy with her choices
*chocolate is a way to her heart, obviously
*make sure it has variety though! And NO COCONUT LUPIN (it’s so gross)
*does indulge in gum or jellybeans from time to time
*her go to is suckers/lollipops though. She very obnoxiously pops them out of her mouth to make points and look hot lmfao
Pops:
*his diet is basically candy, fast food, and packet ramen, he takes what he can get
*kind of like Jigen in his tastes?
*doesn’t like chocolate surprisingly unless it’s something like pocky
*or gum (it makes such a mess and he was one of those kids who believed that if you swallow it it stays in your stomach)
*he basically kinda just eats candy bars and the occasional gummy candy
*get this man some variety

ok so the cute but also kinda sad angsty idea has to do with a concept i love very much in Lupin, especially PT2 so you know how the gang know tapcode
well in LJS Lupin gets hurt right and because of the machines hes on he cant talk, at least vocally Well I had the cutest idea where, the downside to lupin being in the hospital is that Jigen can’t always stay with him, there’s things he has to do, things he’s in charge of when Lupins down for the count that he has to take care of and as a result he does leave once in a while but always makes sure to come back at a specific time.
Well one time when he’s coming back, he passes the nurses station and overhears a conversation between two nurses as he does. Their both talking about a patient in a room, and Jigen recognizes the room number their talking about. It’s Lupins, so he listens in to the conversation and it’s interesting.
As it turns out, once in a while, when the drugs that keep him under start to wear off, the patient starts to move a little and rhythmically starts tapping his finger(s) against the metal of the bed with his finger nail all up until they put him back under again.
One of the nurses mentions how strange this is, considering all the patients she’s had in the past simply wake up trying to rip their stuff out.
The one she’s talking to agrees, then mentions that the pattern is so consistent that she can almost do it her self, and as a joke starts to do it herself, it’s not as precise, but when Jigen listens in he’s really surprised by what he hears
It’s tapcode And not only that
it’s Jigen’s name
Lupins been sleep tapping his name
Now
Cut to a few weeks later, the situation changes, Lupin has to be transferred out from the facility he's in for his own safety to a more secure location Lupins memory is excellent, but so is his olfactory memory, he recognizes things by smell, and with his eyesight near trashed at this point, smell is the best thing he has to go on. He recognizes the smells of people closest to him, he recognizes the smells of the nurses and docs and of the room he was in.
So when he comes too almost immediately after transport to the new facility, he basically panics, nothing smells familiar, no one no thing, nothing it’s all different, and the different smells scare him cause it’s nothing he’s come to recognize, plus there’s no Jigen smell or even the lingering sent of him anywhere so of course he’s nervous.
But there is one scent. One scent he recognizes, and it’s strong too, and he hears it so obviously it’s there and it’s talking to someone.
So he starts tapping, but he’s confused, he’s taps Jigens name first and suddenly the voices stop and his brain doesn’t compute the lack of voices so he keeps tapping, still tapping Jigens name and frantically asking where he is.
But it’s not Jigens voice who calms him, tells him what’s going on where he is and just basically tries to calm him down because his heart rate is sky rocketing and faltering despite the drugs because Lupins basically panicking and his body can’t handle the stress of it right now
But the voice is strong, burly, one he recognizes and over the years one he’s come to trust, so little by little he does begin to calm down, the drugs they also give him to relax him also help too.
When everything calms down, the burly voice stops talking to him and Lupin hears footsteps, so he starts tapping again all tired telling the smell not to leave, not yet anyways,
don’t go. . .please don’t
The footsteps stop some feet away, Lupin can’t tell, but he hears the voice, the voice sounds sad, but after a few seconds of silence and the soft creaking of wood like the voice is leaning against something, the voice says it will. The smell comes back, he hears the creaking of a chair and the scent is strong and it’s close by and it’s calming.
And the recognizable smell is still strong long after sleep takes hold, and the voice finally leaves

So how do you think the Lupin gang and zengata would deal with having a s/o where they are not easily weakened or easy to cry, very tough, can deal with the hectic lifestyle, was born into it, even they have their breaking point though, they break down right after something fucked up happened to them? (They’ve dealt with fucked up shit before, but this really hit a wound of theirs). They’re crying loudly like their heart got ripped out and they can’t see the world around them. If they’re hugged at all, s/o clings onto the person hugging them until they stop wailing? How do lup gang and zeni deal with during the crying, and after the crying, there is calm after the crying, but s/o is not cheered up either?
head canons -- you are inconsolable
this is such good stuff!! comfort headcanons under the cut. thank you for requesting these! my box is always open
lupin:
he is immediately affected by your emtions and shares in your distress
the situation was high stress for everybody, but he was suprised at your reaction
he always assumed you could handle anything because that is what you showed to people. he was wrong, obviously
he pulled you away from the chaos and led you into a back room. he could tell you were tripping over your feet so he scooped you up and threw you over his shoulder for the rest of the way
when it was safe, he held you tight against his body, trying to protect you from hurting yourself as you seemingly lost control of your body
he didn’t want you to hit your head on a wall or break your arm if you fell or something
he felt your legs weaken and wobble, so he gently sat down with you, putting your body between his legs as he continued to hold your torso against him.
he kept his hand on the back of your head on the descent down, keeping your face buried into his neck. your tears began to stain his shirt and his jacket but he didn’t care
the only thing he was worried about was you
he laid his hand on your cheek and tilted your face up to look at him once you calmed down. you were still quivering but he could tell that the episode was passing.
he leaned down and kissed your cheeks multiple times, pressing his lips against the tracks the dried tears made on your skin.
“we’ll talk later.” he said simply, looking back at how the dim lighitng made her face glow.
you looked up at him and nodded, now becoming consious of her much your fingers ached after gripping his shirt. you let go and he laid his hand over yours, messaging it gently.
jigen:
you didn’t want him to see you like this. you knew he wouldn’t know what to do with you. you knew he’d get frustrated quickly.
but when two in the morning rolled around and your world was falling down around you, you had no other choice.
you wrapped yourself up in a blanket you had brought and left your motel room, walking outside down the railing to his room. you raised your first up and hesitantly knocked.
jigen opened almost immediately. he looked just as distraught as you did, his eyes full of worry for you. “you giving up the touch bitch act?” he said lightly, opening his arms to you.
that was when you lost it. you crossed the threshold and fell into his waiting arms. he held you instantly, holding you as tight and as sure as he could, reaching to shut the door with his foot.
he lifted you up, keeping you wrapped in your blanket, and carried you over to his bed.
he sat down, the combined weight of him and you on his lap sank into the mattress.
he pulled the edge of the blanket over you head like a hood and snuggled you close, nudging his nose against her cheek as he whispered in your ear.
“i was so worried about you, angel.”
“i knew you would need someone tonight and i’m happy you picked me.”
“please, please let me take care of you. you don’t have to do this alone anymore. let me help you.”
after a while he laid down with you and tucked you in, stroking your hair. he smiled when you began to calm down, the worry lifted out of his heart.
“i’m not going to let that happen to you again, you hear me?
goemon:
“are you… are you alright, y/n?”
you had come to sit by goemon a day or two after it happened and you didn’t say a word. you had a distant look in your eyes and as you turned to him, it was obvious that you were looking at anything except him.
reluctantly, he opened his arms to you, assuming you wouldn’t take them, but your actions suprised him.
you threw yourself into his arms and cried. it was unlike anything he had ever seen before
he wrapped his arms around you, almost like he was a cucoon around you protecting you from the outside world
in this case, the outside world was pure nature, and it was harmless. but for a moment, he mourned not being able to adequately protect you from the outside world that hurt you
gently, he reclinced back with you in his arms, until his back was flush against the ground. he could only hear your cries and the sounds of the river in his ears. he looked up at the sky, which was turning to dusk. the sight of you falling apart broke him and he knew he could have prevented your pain.
after a while, you noticed you began to breathe in rhytm with him. you noticed how you would blink in syn with his hand rubbing your back. you noticed how his voice hummed gently in your ears as he recited mantras and chants to calm you down.
by no means did you feel better, but his steady presence was just enough to comfort you.
he noticed and once he felt brave enough to look down at you, he did, and took in the sight of your tear-soaked form clinging to his body. he nudged your chin gently.
“look up at the sky, y/n.”
you obeyed and took your eyes off of him and looked up at the sky.
“count the stars.”
you obeyed, and he watched as your lips mouth the numbers, but no sound came out of your mouth.
“look at how they shine for you, my love.”
fujiko:
when she returned and saw you in the state you were in, she frowned.
setting down her bags and taking off her shoes as she walked over to you, she sat next to you and wrapped her arms around you.
when you felt her body you crumpled into it, tears starting to take over your whole being.
she held onto you, leaning back so that you both could hopefully be a little more comfortable.
she knew not to speak. she knew how to hold you and where to put her hands and how to make you feel safe. she knew you probably would not feel better about this for a while, but she wanted to make your life easier as you dealt with it.
when she felt like you could handle it, she asked you if anything happened that was a trigger. she asked if anything she did was a trigger.
you answered her honestly and put to bed any worry that it was her fault.
fujiko frowned when she noticed how absolutely sick you looked. “my love, you’re green.”
you pouted for a moment and sniffled, looking into her eyes for the first time since she got home. you two had your own places, but an agreement where whenever you felt like this, you would go to hers and wait for her.
it didn’t happen very often, but when it did, she wanted you to know you could turn to her for anything you needed.
she guided your head to rest on her shoulder as you began to cry again,
she knew it was going to be a long night. as your emotions began to weigh on her, she’d cry with you. she’d be by your side every time you stepped forward or backslid.
zenigata:
it happens in the interrogation room after you got caught and taken in. you were hurt and betrayed that the gang would leave you with zenigata like that
of course zenigata capitalized on those emotions during questioning to get the most information he could
before he could really get anywhere, you broke down. you fell onto the floor and curled up as sobs racked your body
zenigata was alarmed and tried to pick you up off the tile. you were limp and he had to scoop you up in his big arms to place you onto a couch in a different office.
questioning was over and now his main focus was taking care of you.
he always had a soft spot for you, even though you were a criminal, and always secretly had hopes of reforming you.
he sat on the couch with your head in his lap and stroked your hair. he cooed softly, encouraging you to relax and calm down, and that you would be okay.
“shh, pretty baby, don’t worry. you’re with me now. i’ll protect you, nothing bad is going to happen”
his voice was smooth like silk and you finally gave into him, letting him coddle you as your body finally reacted to the months of emotions you were hiding.
when he thought you were calmed, he sat you up and stroked your tear stained cheek gently.
he guided you to lean your head on his shoulder, placing his other hand on your back.
in the silence, he leaned down and kissed your head tenderly.
“my dear one… what am i going to do with you?”

More Thoughts On Lupin & Co. (This one is a little long)
lupin is super picky about his coffee and WILL get pissy if he doesn't get it how he likes it.
Fujiko made Lupin coffee for the first time along time ago after their first night together when they started their little situation-ship and Lupin has drank his coffee like that ever since.
Fujiko drinks energy drinks and Lupin is repulsed by them. Lupin caught her drinking one but she’ll deny it until the day she dies.
Jigen drinks his black because he can't handle too much caffeine. (for context, black coffee has a pretty low caffeine content for those who don't know.)
Lupin was a track and field kid. As seen in the events in Lupin Zero -sorta spoiler warning for those who haven't seen it-, his dad wanted him to live a normal life, so he convinced his son to do something normal kids do to get his energy out rather than stirring up shit. Lupin was reluctant but fell in love with the sport.
Jigen has really pretty hand writing but Lupin’s is shit, so Jigen writes all of Lupin’s cursive calling cards, but Lupin signs them. Sometimes Lupin just makes Jigen write things for him when he doesn't need it because he just really likes his hand writing.
Lupin likes drawing doodles on all of his notes, letters, etc. Without fail, Lupin's papers are littered w drawings of him, his friends, sometimes Zenigata, or whatever treasure they're after.
Zenigata doesn’t cook often, nor is he the best at it, but he really enjoys doing in nonetheless.
If Lupin doesn’t get his ‘beauty sleep’ he just turns into a full blown bumbling idiot, like I’m talking walking straight into door frames, tripping over his own feet, all of it
On top of that, if someone interrupts his sleep, he gets incredibly pissy and short tempered.
^^Jigen kept blasting opera over the radio once in the hideout, resulting in Lupin being woken from his nap. Without even a second thought, Lupin rolled over on the couch, shot the radio, and rolled back over.
Lupin has A LOT of scars, it comes with the territory of nearly dropping dead with every job he takes on, and he uses his skills as a disguise artist to cover them up because he feels self conscious about them.
I feel like he's a perfectionist so he would see these scars as reminders of how he could have done better or could have done more.
Fujiko is a big spoon and you can pry this thought from my cold dead hands.
Lupin has a little collection of those 3d puzzles, even rubix cubes, and he fiddles with them to keep his mind working during stretches of travel or when he can’t think
Both Goemon and Jigen have tried to use said puzzles out of curiosity but got frustrated when they couldn’t figure them out
Because Fujiko rides motorcycles a lot, I like to think she has a lot of automotive knowledge and has tinkered with the Fiat once or twice.
Lupin doesn’t let her near it often because she isn’t afraid to sabotage the car if she plans on double crossing them.
Lupin is great with kids, but is incredibly irresponsible. He isn’t a big fan of dealing with them but once he’s got attached to them, all hell breaks loose. He is the kind of person that if they asked for ice cream for dinner he would absolutely respond with “WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT”
Goemon rarely sleeps on missions, in part because he always wants to be alert but also in part because he sleeps like a rock. Like, if a shoot out fight started right over him he would be snoring on cloud 9.
Goemon tried smoking like Lupin and Jigen once but he coughed everything up for a solid minute and hasn’t touched another cigarette since.
Lupin will borrow Jigen’s suits once in a while when he needs to tone down the color a bit but Jigen refuses to touch Lupin’s stuff with a ten foot pole no matter how much Lupin insists he would look good with a pop of color.
Jigen has perfect pitch, which is one of the main things that plays into his taste in music.
Lupin has trash taste in music, like absolutely horrid and he is banned from touching the radio in the car or the portable one on look outs.
The gang will regularly play cards together, and of course Lupin, Jigen, and Fujiko are cheating but Fujiko will actively sabotage Jigen and Lupin if Goemon starts losing really bad. Goemon knows how to cheat, he just refuses to.
Based off that one McDonalds commercial with Goemon ordering ahead on his phone, I like to think that when he discovered he could order food over his phone he went a little nuts ordering his favorite food from the local Japanese joint down the street. Like, I'm talking several hundred dollars worth in a day.
Lupin and Fujiko aren’t the best at apologizing when they get into a fight with someone, but I like to think that when they try and apologize, it's sorta just a thoughtful gift they’ll slide to the person they were arguing with.
Lupin has never once forgotten Pop’s birthday and leaves him a little something every year. It's never anything stolen because he knows Zenigata wouldn't accept it if it was.
Lupin’s fur coat from his green jacket days (the one he was wearing in TWCFM) was one of the first extravagant things he bought with money he stole.
Lupin writes everything down, he’s the kind of person when presented with a riddle or a puzzle, he needs to do a hand full of scribbles that only make sense to him and then he’s got it solved. More specifically, he writes in his grandfather’s journal he found in the movie Blood Seal of The Eternal Mermaid.
Lupin has a pretty high pain tolerance but when he so much as gets a small cold, he’ll moan and groan about it.
Yikes, this got long! But I still have so much more, what is a little guy like me to do! Guess ill just have to actually post more rather than just rebloging stuff at 2 am...

I've been cooking, folks. Grilling. Simmering. Boiling. Various other synonyms. About *JigZeni* of all things. My fixation ship just HAD to be a rarepair, didn't it?? I tried to condense pretty much all of my thoughts into one post and I might have gotten a *bit* carried away, oops. It's probably not THAT long, but still. I regret nothing.
Tumblr media
- I imagine (in a general sense, headcanons aside, characters as base as can be) that if Lupin were to never make a move and continue with the coy "will we won't we" shit with Jigen and Zenigata, that they would get fed up to a point where they might attempt to seek solace with each other on a somewhat frequent basis.
It'd probably happen on accident at first; a chance meetup at a bar, the gang gets split up, Zeni has Jig cuffed in the back of a squad car just-another-day-of-the-week style, and one gets to talking while the other decides to humor for once. And I doubt either would be against chatting again after, and lord knows these two like their seedy bar trips, so why not let fate decide when?
- This can be to varying degrees of intimacy!! I love how all of the ships let you do that in some capacity, but JigZeni feels like one of the more flexible ones.
Whether it be as simple as complaining over drinks for a few hours or taking things a step further and heading back to some motel to "get it out of their systems" in "other" ways, ahem ahem.
Either way, they find that they enjoy the other's company and, to their abject horror, whatever weird friendship thing they've developed ends up turning into something genuine and (even worse) autonomous from Lupin.
Because what are they without him? What would they become?? They sure as hell don't know!! But hey, at least there's one other human being on this planet who GETS it.
- And I say that with relative confidence because I see Jigen and Zenigata being on the more (since a better word escapes me) *monogamous* side?? Like they put a lot of weight into a few singular relationships.
They have acquaintances, yes, but how many can they truly call a friend? How many can they trust, *beyond question*, to have their backs, to keep their secrets, to protect their lives, even?? Because trust is a big thing for these two!! Losing someone close hits them way harder than most, to a point where it's actively harmful and discourages them from pursuing anything concrete (also doesn't help that their luck with partners is absolute *shite* and things rarely ever end on a decent/ non-tragic note).
Jigen got SO lucky with Lupin. They ooze trust for each other, and the same goes for Goemon, too. And for a guy like Jigen, having not one but TWO whole-ass people he can depend on is absolutely WILD to him. They're all he needs, really. Zenigata still hasn't found something that concrete yet (on HIS side of the law, at least), and given the nature of the series and his role within it, there's an incredibly low likelihood he ever will.
But at least Jigen knows that pain. He's been there! He can relate! He can console! And Zenigata KNOWS it's legit because he's read, like, *so* many files about this guy. He's Lupin's not-that-much-better half ffs. Zenigata knows Jigen's Been Through It and the fact that Jigen even TRIES to relate despite his rough-ass persona really gets through to him in a way that no one else can.
- All of that baggage would bleed into why they're hesitant to blatantly pursue Lupin. Even though they know that Lupin CAN and WILL reciprocate (enthusiastically, even), Jigen and Zenigata, deep down, also know that he'd never be able to give "all of himself" to them like they are willing to for him.
Jigen is dissatisfied (probably even jealous) of Lupin and Fujiko's goings-on even though he knows it's a *consensual* sort of give-and-take, and you CANNOT tell me that Zenigata isn't the slightest bit jealous of Lupin's tight-knit camaraderie with his crew. "I could treat you so much better", "I wish I could have that attention all to myself" sorta vibes. Don't even get me STARTED on how the excluded party would feel about JigLup/ LuZeni, yeesh.
- Lupin loves them profoundly, no doubts there, but Lupin also loves *everyone*. Which basically turns into if they can't have all of *him*, then at least they can have all of *each other*, y'know??
Even if their friendship (or something more) lasting is impossible, at least they can pretend for a little while.
At least SOMEONE gets it, and that someone also happens to look pretty damn handsome in a fedora, too.
Plus Zenigata is Jigen's type. End of discussion.
now that you're down here in the trenches with me we can hold hands and enjoy overanalyzing hat trick together <3 <3
I DO wanna hear other people's thoughts, though! I can't help but think I'm missing SOMETHING despite writing them for so long (and there's only a handful of people out there who know I have been *writing them*, hooh boy). Hopefully I'll be able to get some of that stuff out there one of these days, but MAN am I a slow writer. Fingers crossed.

I’m a little sad we didn’t get to see canonical kid versions of the rest of the Lupgang in Lupin Zero SO take these headcanons of the 2 best characters in the gang:
Kōichi Zenigata had always been a good student, a real old-fashioned gentleman through and through. He was hardworking, helpful, and one of the best Class Presidents you could ever hope to vote in. He had no shortage of admirers (both secret and not) too. But where he really shone was on the school’s baseball team.
Zenigata was his high school’s star pitcher. His signature move was, ironically, “The Handcuff” — a hard-hit ground ball that bounces directly at an infielder, causing it to be difficult for the ball to be hit. (Look it up, it’s a real thing!)
He joined law enforcement because that was what his father did too, and he grew up believing that it was the right and noble thing to do. With his impeccable work ethic and strategic intelligence, he quickly landed a job with the ICPO.
On one of Zenigata’s first cases with the ICPO, he was among a squad deployed to the USA to investigate rumours of a midnight heist on the Japanese wing of a prestigious art gallery.
Hours before the rumoured heist, Zenigata was patrolling the area near the gallery while undercover, when he stumbled upon a group of rowdy teenagers gathered around a narrow alley. At that time, the sun had already set, and it was odd for a group of teens to be out this late — Zenigata, ever the Boy Scout, began to approach them to ask what they were doing, when he noticed that the group was gathered around a small child. A small child that was red-faced, clearly trying to hide his tears.
And as he got closer, Zenigata could hear the teens jeering and taunting the boy in English, while the boy seemed to only be able to stutter out Japanese sentences: “Please leave me alone”, “I didn’t do anything to you”, “I don’t understand you”.
Now, Zenigata was no stranger to the way most of the world treated people like him — having been deployed outside Japan many times even as a rookie officer, Zenigata knew how racist and xenophobic people could be. And so it was with a stern look and flash of his badge that the teens quickly scattered.
The boy, still crying softly, now tried to stand up as tall as possible, smoothing out the scuffs on his Haori and Kimono in a strangely dignified way. A Haori and Kimono! A strangely formal outfit for a child no older than 10.
That aside, this was no hour for a child to be out alone. Zenigata asked where the kid’s parents were, in Japanese and the softest voice he could manage. The child only said, “They said I’m supposed to look out for them here.”
Zenigata hummed. He disappeared, then minutes later returned with a pack of convenience store sushi. “Well, if you’re gonna wait here alone, I think it’s best if a cop waits with you.”
The child said nothing, but nodded and crammed another tuna roll in his mouth. (Quite the appetite this kid had, thought Zenigata.)
The hours flew by, Zenigata keeping an eye on the stragglers heading in and out of the art gallery, accompanied by a kid who looked like he’d stepped straight out of a Japanese folk tale but demolished almost a whole 7/11’s worth of sushi. The boy seemed quite happy to have someone who spoke his language, chattering away to Zenigata about the strange things he’d seen in America.
Soon, Zenigata was interrupted by the crackling of his radio — indeed, a gang of thieves had arrived to break into the gallery, and all officers were called in to apprehend them. Apologising to the boy, Zenigata rushed off.
A couple hours later, in a flurry of adrenaline, blaring sirens, and blue and red lights, the thieves had been apprehended — a Japanese gang intending to take back a rightful piece of their history. (Zenigata couldn’t say he disagreed with the sentiment, but the job was the job.)
By the time Zenigata returned to where he’d left the boy, he was gone. Wherever he was, Zenigata could only pray that the adorable, old-fashioned little boy with the ravenous appetite was safe.
(Of course, unbeknownst to him, Zenigata would meet the little boy again — this time, Zenigata would have a couple more grey hairs, and the little boy would have a katana sharp enough to cut lightning.)

okay, all dash games and memes aside for a second, becoming one of Lupin's People™ only really has one condition: the individual in question has to catch his attention. challenge him, excite him, intrigue him in a way that makes him want to keep you around
trying to kill him helps a lot, too
