Pain wracked through him, horrible searing pain that made his vision darken around the edges before he recognized Kaiba looming over him. The pressure on his wounded shoulder came from Kaiba's hand, heavy as a boulder. It felt wet? Was it blood? A cold sweat broke over his entire body.

Fuck, he wished he could black out. That'd be a mercy!

"I can tell when your simpleton brain is plotting something beyond your means. You should forget it now."

"I wasn't scheming. I swear!" Jounouchi nearly screamed.

His curiosity got the better of him. Seto already knew too much about him, while Jounouchi knew next to nothing about him. If Seto didn't want him to read the file, he shouldn't have damn well handed it to him. His eyes scanned the top few lines. What he learned ranged from unsurprising—both of Seto's parents were deceased—to mildly surprising—Seto's family name, Higata—to the jaw-dropping—Seto's birthdate. Despite his appearance, Jounouchi had always been fast with numbers and it took no time to calculate his age.

"Goddammit, you're a kid!"

Seto stiffened before swiveling so fast even Jounouchi felt whiplash on his behalf. He was still reeling when Seto appeared in front of him, having abandoned his search in the file boxes, and snatched the papers out of Jounouchi's hand. "No, I'm not," he snarled. "I'm 23."

His eyes snapped open, breath catching, and he shoved himself upright over Sho as he took in the awkward angle of Sho’s neck and shoulders, the blood dried in rusty smears over his skin. Kei swallowed hard, feeling dizzily sick and struggling to remember. . .

Ooh it shows up pretty frequently, so here’s the longest paragraph I found it in!

Yukimaru simply couldn’t defend me from the multitude of predators and had to wait until he could reach me safely,” Akashi said with a smile before glancing at the primarily gray gelding that was now foraging from a bush. “As for a normal horse like Sirius… well, any benevolent creature that hears Nigou’s howl can be sure that it will be protected if it stays close to him. After all, he has become known as a guardian of the wild.”

Jak nods. He signs slowly, 'Why - are you - here?' She raises an eyebrow. "I ask the questions, prisoner." Jak huffs and crosses his arms, hiding his hands. "...Point taken. Fine," Ashelin says flatly, "Did you just ask what I'm doing here?" Jak raises his brows. That was fast. Ashelin's gaze stabs into him, and then flicks away for the first time all night. "I don't know. It's a bad idea. I -" She bites her lip, looking back at him, and he's struck by the sudden fear in her usually blank face. Abruptly, Ashelin stands. "I shouldn't be here." The Commander sweeps around and stomps toward the cell door. Jak jumps up, his legs barely catching him. A wordless cry escapes his lips, and he just manages to tap her on the shoulder. The soldier immediately pivots into a fighting stance, smacking his fingers away. Jak stumbles back, holding his hands up as high as they can go. The emerald green gaze stares into his soul as he points to himself and signs, 'J-A-K.'

Only now she was calling them with a fake somber tone and the planned pauses of a scripted dialogue. “I’m calling in regards to Edmund Munson.” Pause. “Is there a time you would be able to meet me in the office?” Pause. “It’s very important.” Pause. “We’d need to discuss it this week.” Pause, longer and more sincere. Eddie had the phone in his hand and hadn’t ever actually said who he was, he definitely didn’t answer any of her questions. “It’s regarding his father, Al Munson.”

Thank you! It was a bit bumpy (see: me getting back to WIP Wednesday asks on . . . Wednesday >.>) but I finished the sticky WIP so!

Sho’s fingertips brushed his jaw, his face, and he paused a whisper from settling against Sho, half realisation that Sho was still stretched in an awkward - surely uncomfortable - position, and half. . . Sho’s hand against his face, ruffling his hair back. A sense-memory that was anything but new, yet still felt different.
