Yinlin Chibi Drawing Process
Have been slacking a lot lately when it comes to drawing but it's all Wuthering Wave's fault. I initially planned to include her puppet Zapstring as well, but then I thought it would be too much for a keychain design that is supposed to be simple.

[ dee, for yinlin ] Deirdre doesn't like crowds, shouldn't stay in them for too long even, but her friend insisted on going to the Moon-chasing festival at least once, reminding her of the reason why she was escaping traveling in the first place. And, surprisingly, it was better than she expected. The music, lights, fireworks, laughter, and life could be felt in all of Taoyuan Vale. Time passed by quickly and, before she knew it, most people had already left and most stalls were already closed for the night. Sitting at the sightseeing spot under the village's large tree, Deirdre finally decided to take off her crow mask, a long sigh following after taking a deep breath. 'So this is what life is about, huh?' A thought she couldn't ponder for long, since it appeared she wasn't alone anymore. Putting on her mask again, she turned to look at the puppet and the puppeteer who controlled it. "Your show for the children was amazing. It was easy to forget that it was only one person doing it all. You must've practiced for the play for a long time." At least, it looked that way, but... Yinlin, while they haven't had many opportunities to actually sit down and talk, it was curious how they always cross paths.
FESTIVALS WERE THE BEST time for an agent. It was during this time information was exchanged, hidden away behind the vibrant lights, laughter, and smiles that lingered the people’s lips as they enjoyed themselves with friends or lovers. Thus, she wore her puppeteer guise, playing the role of a performer before the children as she created a show that would linger in their hearts long after the event was over. Zapstring moved as if alive, currently floating about children who had remained and filling them with awe. The sight always pulled a small smile from Yinlin’s lips, her heart warmed by the happiness she managed to spread from something so simple as this. Despite the noise, she heard Deirdre’s approach, her smile still present, yet it seemed more subdued now; present for the sake of being present. ❝Deirdre,❞ she greeted, tugging her cap a little further over her features. ❝It’s a play that I remember from when I was a little girl. Every time I saw it, even though it wasn’t changed much, I was always so excited. Honestly, I’m surprised I can even remember it after all these years.❞
Was she speaking truth?
Yinlin would leave that to Deirdre to decide, especially since she was prone to fabricating stories as she saw fit. ❝Hmm…I’m quite surprised to see you here, actually. Are you and your partner here enjoying the festival? We do not have foreigners often here during that time, so I can’t help but be curious as to what you think of it thus far.❞ She tilted her head a little, just enough to look at Deirdre from the corner of her eye. She didn’t see Cu’s bright head of hair, but she could assume that he was here too – wandering about, enjoying himself. How surprising it was, then, that Deirdre wasn’t with him. Even more so when the other woman decided to approach her.

[ cú, for yinlin] "I knew I would find you here!" the traveler says in a cheerful tone after spotting the puppeteer. Before he could be asked about anything, he extends an arm, showing a simple black and purple gift bag for Yinlin. "Today is your birthday, right? Getting to live another whole year in Solaris-3 is quite the achievement if you ask me, so it should be celebrated like there's no tomorrow. Dee and I picked this for you. Well, to be fair, it was Dee who took the time to try and look for the perfect gift. Hopefully, it's to your liking." It's a long hair ornament with a sharp end, the type that can be used as a weapon in a pinch, similar to the one Yinlin often uses, except that the decorative part resembles the Iris flower from the Whining Aix's Mire. ...And there's a magnet with the same shape as well, for Zapstring.
HOW IN THE WORLD did Cu always find her? No matter what guise she wore, it was as if he had some tracking device placed somewhere on her person. Of course that couldn’t be the case considering she constantly made sure this was never a possibility, but even so…it was…worrisome. No one could be that sharp-eyed. Otherwise, she would have been figured out by multiple sources a long, long time ago. ❝Cu,❞ she greeted him upon his approach, eyeing the other in a way that was difficult to discern, yet strangely observant. ❝I see once again you have somehow found me. You will have to teach me this little trick of yours.❞ Mainly so she could find ways to dodge both him and Deirdre since it seemed they had some…rather powerful senses. Well, it was fine this time, she supposed. It wasn’t as if she was wearing a disguise for once. Wait a minute…did he say he knew her birthday? How in the world did he find that out? That wasn’t information she just happened to have lying around for all to see.
Maybe the Rover told them…?
No matter. Knowing her birthday hardly interfered with her work. Slipping her hand into the bag, she soon pulled out what was inside, her head tilting curiously as bright eyes looked over that beautiful hair ornament. Truly it was a sight to behold…but it wasn’t this that took her full attention. Yinlin was looking at the sharp edge, a small hum of appreciation sounding within her throat. Beautiful and deadly… Deidre chose this specifically knowing that she would like it for far more than just looks. What an eerily discerning woman she was. Gently slipping it back into the bag, she pulled out the magnet as well, chuckling softly at how it matched the flower on the hair piece. That was probably for Zapstring.
Endearing.
❝Thank you, Cu, Dear, for these gifts. Deirdre as well. It seems you both know me…oddly…well.❞ Primarily Deidre, at least, which in itself was somewhat alarming. Try as she might to figure out both of these former citizens of the New Federation, Yinlin was always left scratching her head at the end of the day, left with far more questions than the answers she sought. Maybe she needed to observe them both at another angle…
She’d think about it.

❝WHO KNOWS? I GUESS that will remain a secret to everyone save for me.❞ Honestly, Yinlin hardly ever needed preparation for such things. She was used to being put on spot and having to think quickly, and though this was just a fun little puppet show, more or less, getting into whatever role she needed just came naturally to her. A great deal of performers probably wished they could reach her height in terms of quick improvisation. ❝Ah, so Cu dragged you along. Mm…but you do seem to be lacking in edge. It’s easy to see that you are at ease tonight.❞ Deirdre seemed the kind of person who preferred to keep her distance from crowds, and so it was for that reason that Yinlin was so surprised that she was here right now. Then again, she supposed that Cu could be quite persuasive with all his enthusiasm to the point that even Deirdre wouldn’t have been able to resist the temptation. An amusing thought that was. As entertained as Yinlin was initially, what was said afterwards was…questionable. Did Deirdre just say there was practically a swarm of TD lurking around nearby? Well, she didn’t use the word swarm, but it was alarming all the same.
But that Ghost Hound was monitoring things, and since he didn’t seem to be moving from his spot, she could assume that everything was under control. At least, she hoped that was the case. ❝Deirdre…what have we said about stating potential tragedies? Let us not think about the looming shadows in the distance, yes? Instead, look to the bright lights and cheerful faces.❞ She gestured to the children still playing with Zapstring, and then to the rest of the festivities. The dancing Hoartoise seemed to have quite a lot of attention right now considering a small crowd had gathered around them. ❝But yes, a few years ago, the gathering of TD did seem to trigger a retroact rain. It’s still being studied as to what the trigger was exactly, but it is agreed upon that when TD gather to that extent, disaster is sure to follow.❞
Head tilted slightly to the side at the revelation. Yinlin's wording was interesting. "You make it sound like your participation was a last minute decision rather than something you've been preparing for." Was that even possible? If that was the case, then Yinlin was far more skilled than what was shown in the play. The puppet that accompanied them did sometimes make her wonder if it was actually a robot, but the strings attached to it reminded her that wasn't the case.
The festival was... different from what Deirdre was used to. The first one she went, actually. Would the ones in the New Federation be any different? She had no idea. "I'm surprised as well, I don't usually go to events like this, but Cú insisted." And she's glad he did. "That aside, it's been fun, even though I have a hard time wrapping my head around some things. There are enough TD lurking nearby to transform the festivities into a tragedy in a matter of minutes if something were to go wrong. But it doesn't look like it bothers anyone." Well, her forte wasn't going off on its own, which meant that the chances of something catastrophic happening in the near future were minimal. "Something like that happened a little before my friend and I arrived, yes? The last retroact rain event."
