I'm sure if I stopped posting in the middle of the night, more people would see these, ah well... There are some podcasts that are just iconic. Sure, Wolf 359 (@wolf359radio ) from Kinda Evil Genius Productions isn't quite Serial or Welcome to Nightvale, but it's got a following for sure! Between 2015 and 2018 Wolf 359 won multiple categories at the Audio Verse Awards, were finalists for a Parsec, and nominated for a Webby. The show is about the small crew of the USS Hephaestus research station orbiting a red dwarf star called Wolf 359. The Hephaestus is on an ongoing observational mission of the star, and also to observe for alien life. Our characters are everyone's favorite comms officer, Doug Eiffel, no nonsense captain Minkowski, creepy Dr. Hibert, and the slightly buggy AI, Hera. And Eiffel is bored. Bored. Bored. Bored. So he's recording snarky audio logs, he's driving the captain batty, he's being buddies with the AI, and...maybe discovering more than they all bargained for about the station, and signals from space, and management, and...some other stuff. Not quite space horror, not quite sitcom, not quite character drama, but 💯 Wolf 359, and perfect. You will be both sad and excited to find out you can binge the whole show as it ended in 2018. If you like Girl in Space, Diary of a Space Archivist, Station to Station, King Falls AM, or anything involving the voice of Zach Valenti, then you're in for a treat!

Hello! Do you have any resources to find advice for formatting scripts and how to produce an audio work?

Hello! Sorry for the late response.

Personally, most of the resources I’ve used have been other podcasters, just watching what they do and adapting those things to fit my needs. Other than that, Zach Valenti (Wolf 359) made a post that covers many different areas of podcast production that is definitely worth a read (can be found here: https://medium.com/@zachvalenti/so-you-wanna-start-a-podcast-6f4081db4036). I don’t know if they have much out yet, but the @goose-thunder-network Tumblr is starting to make some posts with different tips.

From my own personal experience, some good sites to format scripts on would either be Google Docs (a classic, free and easy to use) or WriterDuet. WriterDuet is my personal preference however the free version does only allow three scripts at a time and limited access. So if you have the extra money to spend and are writing enough, that’d be my recommendation, but if not Google Docs is a trustworthy source.

Audio Drama competition details #WriScrivember (aka “Write a Script in November”)

Hey everyone!

Hope December is treating y’all right! Happy Holidays :)

I wanted to circle back about the Audio Drama competition, originally outlined in this doc. Long story short, I'm going to produce one lucky winner's qualifying audio drama script from the WriScrivember community and make it for sale as a Pay-What-You-Want charity drive for United for Puerto Rico. I will likely be voicing at least one of the characters and working with as many of my favorite audio drama voice actors willing to volunteer with me as there are roles.

Based on feedback, I've decided to extend the submission period through the end of the year for qualifying Audio Drama scripts.

What makes a "qualifiying" Audio Drama script?

An audio drama script (i.e. not a screenplay for a movie)

No more than 10 characters

Limited to 35 standard Hollywood pages or less OR 40 BBC style radio drama script pages or less

No hate speech

No porn

How to submit

Use this Google Form before 11:59PM EST, December 31st, 2017.

 What happens next

Submitted qualifiying scripts will be made available to all who submitted successfully on January 1st, 2018 via a Google Drive folder. It will be shared with entrants via emails provided via the form above, so be sure to use a valid email.

The winner will be decided by a popular vote, limited to entrants.

Voting will open January 15th and entrants will have until January 31st, 2018 to select their favorite script.

Entrants voting for themselves will not be counted.

Production timeline will be determined after a winner is selected and announced via email here and on my personal Twitter by or before February 28, 2018.
