I've been thinking about what the Nimona characters would be doing after the events of the movie and have decided that Ambrosius, after all the pressure that had been on him to maintain this big public image and have a huge career and be a rich successful icon, I have decided that he would be a Stay At Home Dad and nobody can tell me different. He'd adopt some adorable child/ren with Ballister and he would spend his days building a family and a household filled with the warmth, love, and intimacy that he lacked growing up.

He wouldn't have to deal with the normal issues with that lifestyle bc he comes from a stupid rich family which eliminates the financial danger of becoming a SAHD, and we all KNOW Ballister would NOT be some incompetent father!! He would recognize his husband's rewarding but exhausting labor for what it was and share household responsibilities whenever possible and be an active and involved parent and husband ‼️Also Ballister would still cook because his Rich Kid Husband cannot be trusted!! They are partners in life fr

I am just giddy at the thought of Ambrosius planning out crafts and other activities for his kid(s) and finally, finally getting to live in peace. Ballister is the one who craved adventure and honor, Ambrosius just wanted to love his family. He deserves it 💛

Dude I'm never not thinking about this!!!!! Like I can't write immediate post-canon comic fics because it gets TOO DARK.

Like imagine being disfigured, while also being severely psychologically traumatized, while also being newly disabled unable to walk unassisted or see out of one eye presumably losing your independence, while also confronting fifteen years of guilt for severely hurting the person you love most all at once, while also losing the job that you literally dedicated your entire life to, while also realizing that they just used you and it was all a lie. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Nobody could survive it. Without Ballister there, he couldn't have :(

Not me thinking of c!Ambrosius having to deal with his new reflection on the mirror, with all those scars and (according to him) ugliness, interpreting it as the actual reflection of the repulsiveness of his soul now that he finally faced and admitted what he did in the joust. Comic Ambrosius and Movie Ballister can both cook because they were homeless street kids who experienced food insecurity and would find comfort in preparing and handling their own food

Comic Ballister and Movie Ambrosius both can't cook but for different reasons

Ambrosius has Rich Kid Syndrome and was never taught, Ballister possesses the practical knowledge necessary to cook but has such low standards that he never considered it necessary to do anything more than slap lab-grown tuna on a piece of toast and call it a day.

Headcanon that both Movie Ballister and Comic Ambrosius, after being taken off the street and into the Institute/ion, had to sleep with a nightlight for years because they weren't used to being safe while asleep and had to be able to see, in case someone was coming to rob them or snatch them or beat them or worse.

Making a friend that made them feel safe and protected and sneaking off to sleep in his dorm helped them feel comfortable sleeping again :)

I headcanon that Ambrosius's damaged eye post-Nimona fight doesn't close all the way when he sleeps or blinks. He is able to consciously close it completely, but if he isn't, it remains open a crack. However, because he is almost completely blind in that eye, he doesn't notice.

Ballister thought about telling him but decided not to. One, because he doesn't want him to be insecure about it, and two, because this way Ballister can always tell if Ambrosius is pretending to be asleep. When pretending, his eyes are closed all the way. Ballister thinks it's fun to mess with him a little. Sometimes he'll say shit like "Are you asleep? Sick, I'm gonna stay up will 4am working" just so Ambrosius will pretend to wake up and beg him to come back to bed. Alternatively, he'll do cute shit like say "are you asleep? Good, because I could never tell you all this if you were awake--" and gushes about how much he loves everything about him.

About my boy being thrust into the public eye portrayed as a demigod since he was a child!?!? And he's clearly such an idol, from what we see in all his advertisements and everything. I am never not thinking about the concept art that had a risque/nude image of him on the cover of a magazine. And this all not even mentioning comic ver.

If their society is anything like our society, people would have been so gross about it! There would be countdowns to his 18th birthday online and shit, people would feel allowed to say gross explicit things about his (a stranger's) body because everyone knows celebrities are public property /s. I think he'd just get to the point where he just ignored it because what else can you do when you're the No. 1 Hot Young Male Demigod Heartthrob in the Kingdom?

But you KNOW Ballister would not stand for that shit. The first post I ever made that took off and launched me face-first into the online Nimona community was a silly joke about how Ballister would have a fake stan hype account for Ambrosius and you know what? I stand by that. He would use it to bash and cancel creeps online with his army of well-intentioned teenagers.

Comic Ambrosius looks like he'd be a chilly mf with bad circulation and I personally think Ballister would be a Space Heater bf. This is a win win win because it means his metal hand is hardly ever too cold for Ambrosius and having one warm hand and one cool hand against your body at once feels so good for him. Only time it's not a win win is when Ballister gets into bed to have ice cold feets instantly pressed against him

The movie boys however I think Ambrosius is not only not cold, he is beyond a space heater, he is Ballister's personal heat pack. He is the sun. On chilly nights Ballister can just get under the covers with him and he's in a warm cozy sauna. Ballister is not particularly chilly, so they're both pretty comfortable snuggling, but unfortunately they sometimes get too hot when engaging in... Heat generating activities

Cute idea: Ambrosius was never allowed to have earrings or piercings when he was the Champion, he was always jealous of how hot and cool Ballister looked with his earrings

Not long after they reconnect Ballister realizes this, and also knows Ambrosius is struggling a lot with his physical appearance, so he surprises him by taking him to go get his ears pierced and buy him cute earrings that he likes

A cute Comic Christmas Headcanon to make up for my last one

Imagine Ambrosius one year for Christmas, among other gifts, puts a jumbled Rubix Cube in Ballister's stocking. And not like a normal one, one of those really complicated ones (he jumbled it before putting it in there) and Ballister is like "haha that's cute but it's just a silly toy I am far too busy to-" cut to him spending literal hours on it more entertained than ever before in his life

Since I made an angsty sleepy headcanon for the comic boys I felt like the movie boys got left out so

Similar to what I said ab the comic, Ambrosius can't sleep without Ballister there, but in his case it's specifically since the events of the movie (prior to which he much preferred his company but did not depend on it). Ballister being gone, possibly dead for so long gave him massive insecurities so when Ballister isn't in bed with him he has horrible anxiety about Ballister being dead or hurt somewhere.

Ballister on the other hand used to much much prefer sleeping next to Ambrosius. He was able to sleep alone, but he slept poorly due to similar trauma as comic Amb. Ambrosius made him actually feel safe enough to get deep, restful sleep.

Immediately after the events of the movie he didn't feel safe sleeping with Ambrosius anymore, but also didn't feel safe sleeping without him, which was terrible for everyone involved. Once he moved on a bit more, Ambrosius once again became a major source of comfort and he decided that he really was not interested in sleeping alone anymore

M! Ambrosius:

So we know he calls him Bal, I think that's the only proper nickname he uses but he uses. So many pet names. In particular he uses "baby" and "moonbeam" a lot. He started saying moonbeam after Bal started calling him sunshine ☀️🌒. He also uses "love" "babe" and "sweetie" and "honey" less frequently

Ballister Boldheart:

He has more nicknames for Ambrosius lol. Amber was Ambrosius's "kid" nickname that he went by when he was little. Some of the other knights/his friends call him "Bro" but Ballister never called him that (too platonic). When they got older he called him "Amb" and when they started dating he started calling him "Rose" but he doesn't actually use nicknames as often as Ambrosius does. He genuinely likes Ambrosius's name and thinks it's pretty and likes saying it. In terms of pet names he most frequently uses "darling" and "love" but occasionally calls him "baby"

C! Ambrosius

I don't think he'd call him Bal but I read an old (written pre-movie) fanfic where he calls him "Bally" and I thought that was perfect. Ballister doesn't love this nickname and Ambrosius mostly uses his real name, but he'll call him Bally if he's sick or feeling especially needy/affectionate. He more frequently calls him "Ballis" but mostly calls him Ballister. He doesn't use a ton of pet names, he occasionally uses "Nemesis" (affectionate) or "M'Lord" if he's being cheeky, he also uses the pet names "Handsome" and "Love" semi-frequently.

Ballister Blackheart:

For a man who says he hates pet names, he sure doesn't not use them. The main nickname he uses is "Zee" (since Ambrosius's name in the comic is pronounced Am-bro-zee-us, not Am-bro-zhus like in the movie) and on very rare occasions he'll call him "Ambs." He also calls him "Goldenloin" to tease him sometimes even after his name was changed to Blackheart. Pet names he uses are also "Nemesis" (affectionate) usually with a possessive, "Nemesis of mine" or "My Nemesis." He'll call him "Angel" if he really feels a need to be extra soft, like if Ambrosius is very upset or unwell. When they dated before the joust he'd call him "My little Knight" (because Amb USED to be much smaller than him) so he sometimes says that after they're back together as well, when cuddling or sharing an intimate moment.

Y'all so I was wondering about why the fuck Blackheart is a "Lord" in the comic. I thought at first he'd just made it up for himself but other people are seen referring to him as "My Lord" so I feel like it's his actual rank.

And I researched it and from what I found, you have to inherit it from your noble parents, marry into a noble family, or have been granted the title from the reigning monarch (you don't get the title for owning property like Those Websites advertise). I guess it's possible that Blackheart's family had noble blood, even if his father did manage to go so broke he had to sell his own child but it seems more likely he just made the title up for himself and everyone ran with it. BUT I did find something funny

The wife of a knight has the title of Lady, the feminine equivalent to the Lord title

So Lord would be Ballister's real rank and title were he married to a Knight.

Goldenloin is a knight

You KNOW that bitch would not shut up about that. While they're fighting after Ballister dubs himself a Lord Ambrosius would taunt him like "omg if you wanted to marry me just say that 💅🏻" and then once they're back together it's just "hey sooooooo wanna be a Lord for real 👀"

He grew up as an orphan in poverty, he never really got to receive nice things so when people go out of their way to give him something, even something small like a candy bar, and ESPECIALLY something thoughtful, it means the world to him. He tries to push that forward by making gifts for others. As for touch? It just makes him feel secure and cared for in a way he usually lacks

Comic! Ambrosius:

This man is. The touchiest AND clingiest human alive. He never wants to not be touching Ballister. He never wants to not be AROUND Ballister. He was like this his entire life (since meeting him and yes, including the 15 year spat when he'd make up the stupidest fucking excuses to be around "foiling his plans"). Even when they were little and not romantically involved, he wanted to always be cuddling and playing together. After being apart for so long, he is functionally a barnacle. He learns to be comfortable on his own, but he still prefers Ballister's company because he makes him feel safe and loved

Ballister (Blackheart):

He likes to take care of people he cares about and share his passions with them. He definitely values his alone time A LOT (unlike Ambrosius who is at best just comfortable with alone time and more often just tolerates it) but he really does hate being lonely and loves knowing there's someone waiting to spend time with him when he's ready. He also likes taking care of the people he loves and making sure their needs are met, such as when he fretted over taking care of Nimona when she was shot and, after the Comic's events, helping take care of Ambrosius when he was too injured to take care of himself.

Movie:

Ambrosius is Very Into body worship. He wants to make Ballister feel the absolute maximum amount of pleasure at all times. He wants his man absolutely shaking because he feels so good. The more he is touching Ballister, the better. Ballister is extremely bashful about this, but through the years he's learned to love it. It has the desired effect of making him feel very loved and pampered, plus it makes Ambrosius happy! Ballister also very much likes to be praised, it will get his motor running pretty instantly when done in even a slightly flirtatious tone of voice. Ambrosius takes full advantage of this, because it makes Ballister completely weak in the knees and allows Ambrosius to clearly communicate how much he means to him!

Comic:

These mfs are kinky you cannot change my mind. They had a lot of trust issues and anger to work through and I think that would have helped them. Their BDSM activities satisfy all of their love languages, because obviously it involves touch and quality time, and Ambrosius literally "serves" Ballister by being submissive for him, and Ballister also takes care of him which feels like an act of service as well. They both enjoy when Ambrosius is pushed to the absolute limit of pleasure/pain that his body and mind can handle, and they both enjoy the cuddles and gentle affirmations and care that follow when Ambrosius is so overstimulated that he's shaking and sobbing.

I hope all who celebrated had a wonderful Christmas! Anyway here's a bummer ass Comic Headcanon about it that I saved until after the festivities AKA Why Christmas is Ambrosius's Favorite Holiday

In the 2013 Christmas Comic we see Ambrosius extremely excited about Father Christmas coming to bring him presents, and he says "he didn't last year, but this year he might." This implies it is maybe Ambrosius's second Christmas at the orphanage because if that had been happening for years, he'd probably be a lot more jaded like the other kids (which let me say, it's kind of heartbreaking that the bully kid, while being a jerk, obviously still believed in Santa but just that he intentionally didn't bring presents to them).

My headcanon as to why he was so excited about Father Christmas coming? In years prior, he lived on the street. He believed Father Christmas only visited children in their homes and he was homeless. So once he finally has a home (even if it's the Institution Orphanage) he'd be SO excited to finally be eligible to receive Christmas gifts.

I also think he likes the season because being from the streets, people are most charitable around Christmastime. It would be the season he'd have the easiest time accessing food and money from charities and passers-by.

Working on smth sad rn so I'll leave y'all with this little tidbit for the night:

At the end of the comic in the hospital, Ballister says he doesn't want to leave Ambrosius because he doesn't want him to wake up alone. But Ballister is a smart man with substantial medical experience, and he can clearly see that Ambrosius is fucked up six ways to Sunday with a negligible chance of survival.

He wasn't worried about Ambrosius waking up alone. He wanted to be there because he didn't want Ambrosius to die alone.
