GOOBYE AGAIN | DILUC

for @bluexiao ‘s 5k collab event <3

Being Diluc's lover was simply heaven, you were his angel. The love of his life, even.

Every waking moment was filled with the pure bliss of him loving you. The knowing glances across the bar, the brush of his hand against yours when in public, even the searing trails of his lips when you were at the dawn winery. It was everything you could have ever asked for. He was everything you could have ever asked for.

There was just one teensy-weensy problem.

You're, well, an archon, and not just any archon...

To say it shortly, you are the Tsaritsa. Yes, that Tsaritsa.

Why you were in Mondstat? Well, it's a long story...

You came originally to check on the status of Fatui operations in the city, namely the deal with the Lawrence Clan. You were under the guise of a visionless traveler. You had nothing but the sword on your back, or at least that was how it appeared.

A god, that's what you were, and that's what allowed you to change your appearance the way you did. Centuries of muscle and battle scars faded to s/c skin. Striking white hair was now h/c, your icy gaze now e/c.

You were a new person. You were just a person.

Barbatos sensed you first. Hell, he knew you were there the second you entered his borders. The winds whipped around you, urging you, pleading for you to leave.

Once you assured your old friend that you meant no harm to his precious Mondstat, the gusts stilled, but you knew he was still watching you.

When you reached the walls of the city you were welcomed by the knights greeting you, which was...strange. But, you got in. Seems that your mortal skills were better than you thought.

And as soon as you stepped through those gates you saw him, him in all his glory.

Diluc Ragnvindr, the love of your immortal life.

It all spiraled from there. You first spoke to him when you walked into the tavern, looking for a good drink. The second you saw him behind the bar, hair up in a higher ponytail than before, you knew. You knew that you would not leave this nation without missing him.

What you didn't expect was for him to meet your eyes from across the room that night. And what you expected even less was the fire that is lit in your frosted-over heart.

You left the bar in a panic, thinking that something was wrong with you

You spoke to him the next day when you were at Good Hunter. You had ordered some Mondstat grilled fish, wanted to at least enjoy your time here. Behind you was the sound of someone clearing their throat.

When you turned you saw him, fiery red hair and all. You felt like his gaze was analyzing you, it made you worry that your cover was blown.

"I apologize if I'm intruding, but I wanted to check up on you. You seemed rather panicked when you erm- fled from my tavern," his voice was like dark chocolate. Rich, smooth, and deep.

"Oh! I'm sorry if I worried you, sir, I had remembered something I had to do. I'll be sure to stop by and get a drink soon," your words dripped from your tongue like honey, sweet enough to draw anyone into your trap.

Not him, he simply nodded and walked off. You were rendered stunned until you heard Sara calling your name for your order.

Now, it was a challenge.

You did go for that drink, but what you, again, did not expect was for Barbatos to be there. His current form was not any different, apart from the attire. Slumped over the counter begging for "just one more" glass of wine, no wonder he got his Gnosis taken; a damn drunkard. Well, he was no better than Morax, if you ever heard "Osmanthus wine" again, you would take over Liuye just to stop the production of it.

Anyways.

Again your eyes were locked with his, and as the same feeling arose in your chest, the urge to flee grew. But it was suppressed as you walked to the bar, taking a seat.

"I expected you to run off again, looked like a deer in headlights," his tone was chiding, arms crossed with a glint of mischief in his eyes. But his face remained blank, painfully so.

"Apologies, I was not expecting to see a bard slumped over your counter; strong stuff?" You felt Barbatos slap wind on your arm, glaring at you from a few barstools down.

The man chuckled, looking over at said-bard, who was now pretending to be fast asleep.

"Yeah, that's Venti, racked up quite the tab just tonight. He may not look like it but he can throw back wine like nobody's business." He spoke, he masked it in irritation but there was an obvious fondness laced in his voice.

From there, talking was natural.

It had finally come to the closing time for Angel's share. By now, your cheeks were flushed pink, you couldn't bother to tell if it was from the alcohol or your company. Rising to your feet you pulled out your pouch of mora, but he shook his head.

"It's on the house if you tell me your name," smooth bastard. His eyes were nothing but curious, and with the comfort that he had no ill intent, you answered.

"Y/n, just Y/n"

"Well 'just Y/n', I'm Diluc. Diluc Ragnvindr"

With a smile, you left, but in the back of your mind was his name, with hearts.

Diluc has asked to court you not even a week later. He showed up at the door of your hotel room with a bouquet of Windwheel Asters.

It was awkward, clumsy, and clearly his first time.

You told yourself that you couldn't agree, that you would only be here for a month more.

But that all slipped from your mind, just like how the word "yes" slipped from your lips.

But your identity had caught up with you now, a month later.

With increasing concern from the Harbingers, you had to deliver a letter home.

So you went to the nearest Fatui camp, a letter penned and sealed in the Tsaritsa's hand in your grasp.

Yet again, the unexpected caught you off guard.

While you were instructing the soldiers of where to deliver it to, you were interrupted by shouts outside.

Drawing your sword, the tent flap was ripped open by your lover, who seemed just as surprised to see you.

But his expression grew enraged when the soldiers stepped in front of you and drew their weapons. To him, it seemed like they were taking you hostage. But all that shattered when a Cryo Gunner opened his mouth.

"Stand back Mx. Tsaritsa, we'll handle him!"

Your eyes flew wide, and you felt white-hot rage pierce through you. But before you could turn them into human popsicles, you remembered that Diluc was here and that he had heard that.

But it didn't look like he noticed, as he very quickly handled them.

You didn't know if you should be ashamed at the weakness of your soldiers or proud of your lover's strength.

Wordlessly you two walked back to the Dawn Winery

He didn't pop the question until you two were laying in bed that night. Your stomach sunk when the words left his mouth, you had been desperately hoping that he had forgotten

"Darling, those Fatui scum called you 'Mx. Tsaritsa', what was that about?" You could tell he knew, he was giving you one final chance, to be honest with him, and you took it.

"There was no mistake, I am indeed the Tsaritsa."

He was silent, staring into the blackness of the room. When you reached out to him, he flinched away.

That's when you knew you were no longer welcome here, in his bed, or his heart. So you rose and left, not wanting to breach the lines you had already so blatantly crossed any further.

As you reached the door you felt his hand rest on your arm, making you pause.

There was an uncomfortably comfortable silence before you broke it.

"Do you not trust me anymore?”

Again, silence.

"Diluc, please say something, anything. I cannot stand to not know whether you hate me or not, so if you do please just say it!" Your words came out in a frantic cry as you turned to him.

“That is indeed the problem… I trust you more.”

"What..?"

“Every day, I seem to fall deeper and deeper in love with you, my love. I wish that I could be mad at you, that I could hate you over this. But I can’t. So please. Stay.” There were tears in his eyes now too.

This situation was familiar for Diluc. He had let his brother go, no, driven him away, when he found out who he was. Diluc could not let that happen again. He would not be able to take it happening today.

So, with a sigh, you let him guide you back to bed. you let him hold you in his arms as he slept.

You let him love you again because you knew that you would not be there when he woke.

You weren't there when he woke.

Where you had been when his eyes shut was now occupied by a letter and a flower.

A letter signed "Just Y/n" and a Whindweel Aster.

As he read your letter he felt tears slide down his face, another one had slipped away from him.

But there was a feeling of peace in Diluc, knowing that in your memories he will live on, even beyond death.

Or at least, he hoped that you would remember him that long.
