You walked last in the 2023 summer fashion show for French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, which was watched over by Anthony Vaccarello – one of the people you were particularly fond of in the fashion world. You couldn't let him down. The dress you were wearing was not the one in which you felt most comfortable, but it was not your comfort that mattered at that moment. What mattered was how you presented it and what will be written about you later.

And there has been a lot of noise about you recently.

You were a new phenomenon in the fashion world that was in fact discovered only a few months ago, but you instantly got noticed by a wider audience. Every designer wanted you in their show, and you would actually agree to every catwalk offer given to you if you could.

Despite the joy you got from all sorts of photo shoots and campaigns, you had to be honest with yourself – being currently the most popular person in the fashion world also had another side to it, a decidedly worse side that sometimes tended to oppress you. The constant stress and pressure you were putting on yourself was giving you panic attacks. You wanted to be the best. You wanted to be well remembered by every designer and every brand head you worked with. You wanted the media to write about you in the pure superlatives the way they did so far, so in front of the cameras and in public, you made sure you didn't do anything stupid. You had to be perfect. You wanted to be seen as that.

You walked with your eyes locked into the space in front of you. Despite your sunglasses on, you didn't glance sideways, not wanting to be distracted by a familiar face among the audience. The wind gently blew your leather coat, which would have been dragging on the ground if not for the high heels located on your feet.

You turned right and the illuminated Eiffel Tower appeared in front of your eyes. You located with your eyes the stairs leading to the catwalk way out.

As soon as you stepped out of sight of both the audience and the cameras, you breathed a sigh of relief. You didn't trip, you didn't twist your ankle in those eleven-centimetre heels, you didn't mistake your steps. Everything was as it should be. Not long after your walk out, a round of applause reached your ears. It was Anthony making his final round of saying goodbye, thanking a few members of the public, seated in the front row. Moments later, the man came among his models, thanking each of you and inviting you to the afterparty that takes place after every bigger show, and then stopped by your side for a longer stay.

“I saw Ben in one of the rows. I thought he wouldn't be able to get there on time. I mean, you said just yesterday that he was stuck on the set for longer”

You and Anthony met at the very beginning of your blazing modelling career. He quickly became your mentor and advisor on things you didn't know much about yet. Sometimes you felt like you were imposing with your silly questions, but you trusted him more than your agency on some things, and Anthony himself didn't seem to mind. On the opposite – he was happy to help you. You wished every model had someone like that in their life, because he was truly an incredibly warm person who cared for others wholeheartedly. Your relationship was close to the one you had with your father, so despite the short time you knew each other, you knew a lot about one another.

“It turned out that he wrote this message moments before he got on the plane” you replied, throwing your coat off your shoulders. Anthony immediately took it from you. “He wasn't really stuck anywhere. You don't even know how surprised I was when he suddenly knocked on my door at the hotel” hearing this, the man laughed.

“Bring him to the party, we haven't talked in a long time” he said quickly, hearing someone call out to him from a distance. “I have to go, you did phenomenally today. See you later, y/n” Anthony hugged you softly and with a smile on his lips, he turned and moved toward the person who called him, not sure who it actually was.

He and Ben met at one of the shows you participated in. You told Ben about Anthony very often, so when he had a chance to meet him – he did.

Your boyfriend very quickly understood why you like him so much and are able to trust him in almost every aspect. They were only a year apart, so they caught up just as quickly with a common language even though their occupations in life were completely different.

You knew Ben was waiting for you somewhere outside, so you quickly changed into the clothes you arrived in and, without washing off the make-up you had prepared for the catwalk, headed for the exit. On your way, you said goodbye to the stylists who had been working on your look, and then you stepped out into the fresh air. You looked around as the wind gently blows your hair and after just a moment you noticed Ben heading towards you with a wide smile on his face and one hand tucked behind his back. You immediately began to take steps towards him with just as wide a smile, putting strands of your hair behind your ears.

“Look who it is. Is she the stunning model who closed the Saint Laurent show?” he asked, putting his hand on your waist and pulling you closer once you were standing facing each other. A quiet laugh came out of your mouth. The man leaned in as if he wanted to kiss you, but stopped a few inches away from your lips. “You are even more beautiful up close” he added, then formalised a quick greeting kiss.

“Good to see you too” you replied cheerfully. As Ben moved away from you, he pulled a huge bouquet of white flowers from behind his back. You made a surprised face, completely not expecting them, and took them in your hands. “Is it for me?” you asked stupidly, to which Ben rolled his eyes amused.

“No, it's for Anthony. Move over, where is he?” he asked looking around to the side, with his hand reaching out as if to take the bouquet he had given you, to which you reacted with laughter.

“Speaking of Anthony, he said to pass on that you were invited to his afterparty”

“Afterparty?” Ben repeated, wrapping his arms around your waist, after which you both headed off in the direction of his rental car.

“Yeah, is something wrong?” you asked, raising your head to look at him.

“No, of course not” he assured you while giving you a smile. “Parties with Anthony have always been the best ones”

Despite the reassurance that everything was fine you had some strange feeling that Ben was misrepresenting the truth a little, but for the moment you chose to ignore it. Zero negativity that evening, just having fun.

When you reached the car, Ben opened the door for you and then took the driver's seat himself. As you buckled your seatbelt you realised that you hadn't even smelled the flowers the man had given you yet. So you hastily sank your nose into the bouquet, and Ben's quiet laughter reached your ears.

“Do you like them? I chose them myself. No lady at the florist helped me at all” he said slightly ironically.

“Of course I like them, thank you”

After this short exchange of words, Ben turned the key in the car's ignition and you drove back to the hotel to prepare for the next event of the evening.

You still had some time until the afterparty, so after entering the hotel room, you immediately went to the bathroom, for a quick shower and to wash off all the spray that was on your hair.

“May I join you?” you heard Ben while you were still in the room taking off your hoodie.

“We don't have time for that, honey” you replied and, sending him a wink, you disappeared behind the bathroom door.

While you were already inside, you reached for a hair brush and gently combed your hair, untangling any tangles created by the wind and separating strands from the hairspray. You looked around for your micellar makeup remover, and then took out some cotton pads from your makeup bag and thoroughly cleaned your face from the makeup. You decided to leave the rest of the skin care for when you would have to wait a few minutes with the conditioner on your hair. You took off the rest of your clothes, carefully placing them next to the sink, and stepped into the shower, where you ran a stream of warm water. You closed your eyes, gently tilting your head back so the water could pour all over your face. After a moment, you ran your fingers through your hair back and started washing it. After applying conditioner to the ends of your hair, you stepped out of the shower and quickly reached for a hair clip, then tied it up so it wouldn't bother you as you continued to clean yourself up. You thoroughly washed your body and face, made sure your legs were smooth enough and washed the conditioner out of your hair, then turned off the water. After wiping your wet body, you wrapped yourself in a towel and stepped out of the shower, where you realized you had not brought clothes from your room to change into. You sighed deeply and, making sure the towel stayed on you tightly enough, left the bathroom.

You wanted to get it done quickly. You wanted to just grab your clothes and rush back to the bathroom to change, dry your hair and redo your makeup, but after the first barefoot step you took on the cool floor, you felt Ben's gaze on you. You looked at him. He was sitting on the bed, all the time wearing the shirt he had shown up in at the event, now unbuttoned a few buttons below his neck. Just a moment ago he was browsing something on his phone, but now he was mirroring you from top to bottom.

“Are you sure we don't have time?” he asked, putting the phone aside. He got up from the seat he was taking and slowly moved toward you, all the time looking at you while he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt.

Seeing his reaction to you made you stressed. You nervously swallowed your saliva and crouched down by your suitcase as quickly as possible to pull out party-appropriate clothes. You had to admit that Ben looked really handsome in that unbuttoned white shirt, but you really didn't have time.

“What will you wear? I don't know what to choose” you asked, pretending that the man was not standing next to you and looking down at you at all.

“Are you really ignoring me?” he replied with a question to a question amused. He shook his head with disbelief. “Okay, Mrs. Celebrity” Ben sat down on an armchair, standing nearby. You looked at him, pausing for a moment putting your clothes through. “I don't know, some kind of t-shirt?”

“Some kind of t-shirt? You look good in that white shirt”

“I know” he shrugged his shoulders. “But you'll probably get jealous if someone hangs their eyes on me for too long” he said melodiously, smiling brightly at the end. You rolled your eyes.

“Watch out because you're gonna be jealous soon” you laughed and went back to looking through the contents of your suitcase.

You finally found what you were looking for and returned to the bathroom, where you finished getting ready. After a while you were both ready to leave, so without waiting any longer you left your room and headed for the car.

You were not the first to arrive at the event location. A bunch of more or less famous people were already hanging around.

You and Ben never felt the need to announce to the whole world that you were a couple, and only a handful of people knew about your relationship, so you decided to keep a proper distance after you left the car. Especially as there were several photojournalists with cameras hanging around outside the door. Everyone knew that you and Ben had been friends for a couple of years. A few of the braver journalists over that time had tried to sniff out some bigger sensation between you, but what was really between the two of you was a sweet little secret.

The first few minutes of the evening looked the same as any other party – greetings, looking around the place. Only later did the fun really begin and the alcohol started to pour in streams, despite the attempt to keep up elegant appearances. You didn't even notice when you got separated from Ben, who was taken in by Anthony so they could finally catch up on the months they hadn't seen each other.

You looked around, searching for familiar faces you could join for a short while. You finally spotted Talia Ryder at one of the tables, accompanied by Rosé, whom you had met at a previous afterparty at Anthony's. With a warm smile, you immediately moved towards them. As soon as the girls noticed your presence, they immediately got up from their seats to greet you. You quickly hugged each other in a friendly greeting, saying how it had been a long time since you had seen each other, then you sat down next to them. You didn't even know how much time had passed because you were having such a good conversation with the girls, and your whole cheeks hurt from laughing when you felt someone's hands on your shoulders.

You gently tilted your head back so you could look at the person behind you with a smile. You expected to see Ben, however, the mysterious stranger turned out to be Anthony. He slightly leaned towards you to make sure you could hear his words despite the music playing in the background.

“Your boyfriend is already free. This time I took his phone number, so he won't run away from me anywhere anymore” joked, to which you laughed.

“You have a boyfriend?” you heard Rosé's surprised voice. You looked in her direction and noticed that Talia had an identically surprised look on her face.

“Why didn't you say anything?” hearing the girl's question, you moved your gaze again to the man who was already standing on the other side of the table with his hands resting on the back of the chair.

“Yeah, why didn't I say anything?” you asked, accenting the last words carefully to tell Anthony that he had said something he shouldn't have. The man opened his eyes wider, realising that indeed your relationship with Ben wasn't as public yet as it could have been.

“I’m sorry, ma belle. I think I should go now, I'm sure someone just called me” he said quickly, then waved his hand and walked off in a random direction, at which you rolled your eyes amused. You have focused your attention back on Talia and Rosé.

“Well… yes. In fact, yes, I have a boyfriend” you said, scratching the back of your neck.

“Who is he?” they asked excitedly at the same time, leaning more closely towards you.

At the same moment, none other than smiling Ben approached your table. “I've got Anthony's number!” announced enthusiastically. You looked at him with a soft smile, then looked back at the now straightening girls.

“Speak of the devil” you laughed. “Girls, this is Ben. You may know him already” you moved your gaze to a man standing nearby. “Ben, this is Talia and Rosé. We met at the last afterparty” you introduced them to each other and gave them a moment to say hello.

You were opening your mouth to add something more when suddenly all four of you heard a high-pitched female voice coming from behind Ben's back.

“Ben?!” at the sound of his name, the man turned slightly to see to whom belongs the voice calling him. “OH MY GOD!” you furrowed your eyebrows confused as you saw some woman you didn't know almost throw herself at your boyfriend to hug him.

You could see that Ben was no less confused, but nevertheless he gently put his arms around the girl. Only when she pulled away from him had he had a chance to see who she was. “Nevaeh?”

Nevaeh? Who the fuck is Nevaeh and why is she hugging your man?

“When was the last time we saw each other? It was so long ago!” the girl stuck to Ben's arm, and you sent a still confused look to Talia and Rosé, sitting next to you. They tried to look politely at the stranger, but you could see a shadow of bewilderment on their faces.

“I think the last time we saw each other was during a break-up…” Ben replied, being slightly perplexed. He hurriedly wanted to take his hand from Nevaeh's grasp.

“Ah, during a break-up…” the girl answered and then poked her lower lip forward, making a sad face. She didn't give up and rested her head on the man's shoulder. “You broke my heart then, Ben”

“If memory serves me right, you cheated on me, Nevaeh” hearing this, you raised your eyebrows in surprise, and the sound of a gasp came from Rosé's lips. You wanted to say something and stop this absurd situation, but again you were not given the chance. You could see that Ben wasn't comfortable in the presence of the girl and you didn't feel good at the moment either.

“But you are still just as handsome, or even more so!” Nevaeh said melodiously. She pulled away from Ben, but not for long. At first she just wanted to look at his face, but immediately after that she came dangerously close to him, at which he took a step back. “Maybe we could go somewhere more secluded and talk?” she asked suggestively.

Ben coughed throwing you a look, then looked at Nevaeh again. “Thank you, I'm not interested and now if you could-”

Ben's ex-girlfriend turned toward you and your friends, looking at each of you for a longer second. “Are you going to sit here with some skinny as bones models? I beg you, don't even joke like that…” she interrupted your boyfriend in mid-sentence, and then turned again towards him.

“Okay, I’m done” you said loud enough for Nevaeh to hear you, standing up from your seat. You were already about to leave when you heard Ben's voice.

“Y/N is my girlfriend” he said loudly, making even those not involved in the conversation turn towards your table. You looked around flushed by the man's sudden statement.

“Her?” Nevaeh asked, as almost in disgust, and looked at you with hatred. If sight could kill then you would fall flat. She glanced at you from head to toe and snorted, then looked at Ben, who was already closer to you. “I am much prettier than her”

“And your appearance is the only thing that matters to you, Nev” the man took your hand. “Don't try to compare yourself to Y/N because you are at a loss, love” he gave you a short glance and then looked at the still confused Talia and Rosé. “We'll be off now, hopefully next time we can talk longer” Ben sent the girls a warm smile and, ignoring Nevaeh's presence, headed for the exit.

“I will call you later!” you heard Talia's voice on the way out and you and the man disappeared between the other guests.

You left this afterparty as a couple in love with each other, not a pair of friends.

Before leaving, you found Anthony to say goodbye and then stepped out into the cool, fresh air, which gently hit your faces with a breeze. Seeing that you were holding hands, discussing what had happened a while ago, a few paparazzi took pictures of you, asking questions that you didn't answer. The two of you got into the car and just a moment later you were on your way back to the hotel, where you spent the rest of the night.
