I see the fs fandom is still the same toxic af waste pool as it was the last quad. Sighs in disappointment.
Have some Yuzu pics to break up the hate train.

I am sorry that Yuzu's divorce annoucement fires up discussions about Fanyus again and that the MEDIA harassment that caused the divorce to happen is pushed aside over it BUT I am still kind of perplex about the level of delusion from some Fanyus about their own fanbase and the impact the fandom has on Yuzu's life in general...
This is MY opinion, feel free to disagree...
The MEDIA caused Yuzu trouble - this time maybe even beyond repair 😢 and I am still not over this - BUT it's not like Fanyus don't have any fans among them with disrespectful behavior that caused Yuzu discomfort. Who I personally question and want to adress with this post are those who see "no wrong" in the Fanyu fandom and aren't able to acknowledge bad behavior that did cause Yuzu personally trouble. And even things done in good faith can cause discomfort. This is not to put some Fanyus questionable behavior and media harassment on the same scale, which is not, BUT there were a lot of "unsafe" moments created for Yuzu by his own fans, some that have impacted Yuzu's personal life or invaded privacy as well.
Here are some examples for unsafe moments throughout his amateur career: For example Yuzu being to afraid to go on his own to the rink in CANADA bc ppl kept following him (you think these were all "journalists"?) and FANS put a huge poster - a paid aid even - on the bus stop he used to get off to the rink in Canada to congratulate him a couple of times(a cute thing per se but it shows how fans tracked his habits to know he'd see it). At ACI 2019 fans ran after the car they saw him getting into and almost even caused an accident (there was a huge uproar among Fanyus how some acted disrespectful). In Helsinki 2018 the crowd waited outside the VIP door in hundreds and ppl expected him to walk through a pushing crowd, security didn't walk him through this instead he went through a backdoor and even there were fans showing the camera into his face though he didn't want it. (I saw this myself from afar bc I was leaving the building at the same time to catch my flight). Yuzu almost hiding behind Brian Orser at 4CC 2020 at the airport, yes media was present too, but fans waited there for him. At Beijing 2022 fans released a photo of Yuzu AND HIS MOTHER at the airport and shared it among fans. (I am even sadly complicit in this bc I also shared the pic without realizing that it was his mother and not an authorized pic. I took it down immediately, but damage is still done) Yuzu has dozens of bodyguards around him at airports as seen in for example in Pyeongchang 2018 or 4CC 2020 and that's not only because of the media. Yuzu stopped meeting fans at events a long time ago because of the fans behavior. I think the last ppl who got a pic with Yuzu was some lil time after Sochi 2014. These are just a few examples. I don't say all these things are done with malicious intention, maybe even just meant as showing support but the "love" goes way beyond for some for what is respectful. Yes maybe these examples were not stalking his home but Sendai isn't really that huge of a city and ice rink Sendai doesn't say for no reason that they don't accept gifts for Yuzu and that ppl should act respectful. That's not targeted at the media but at ordinary ppl and fans trying to catch glimpses of Yuzu.
Yes most Fanyus condemn the Tabloid papers, but still even raging about wrong articles and retweeting and reblogging with comments to take the articles down give the articles attention. To say only non-Fanyus read those articles is delusional as to know what's wrong about an article you unfortunately have to read it yourself.
It is a known fact that Yuzu has a huge hater base, especially in Japan, but I think Fanyus have a much higher number and are a much securer target audience for media than the haters. So haters may buy tabloid articles but the ones buying everything with Yuzu's name on it or for example track what Yuzu is wearing are fans. "Hanyuconomy" is something Fanyus are really proud of, don't you think some fans still end up buying those tabloid papers for Yuzu's pic in it? And non-Japanese speaking Fanyus may not even realize that an article or magazine is tabloid stuff and problematic?
And if you think Fanyus are all sweet and unproblematic than ask the multiple fans of other skaters who got bullied by Fanyus online just for their opinions. Fanyus even bullied their own fans of sns for example they bullied two Fanyu translators off Twitter bc they didn't liked the wording or bc god forbid they made a mistake or bc translations have been misinterepreted. I have experienced my share of hatred from Fanyus online as well. I personally don't even like to call myself a Fanyu bc of how rabid Fanyus treat other fans though this whole blog once was just started bc of my fan love for Yuzu. Fanyus even made me enjoy Yuzu content less! There is a reason for other skaters fandom's calling Fanyus toxic. A huge number of Fanyus come from KPop and act according to the KPop fandom and we all know that fandom isn't unproblematic. I swear the view on Fanyus worsened over the years. It's sad because the majority of Fanyus is kind and respectful, but the ones who cause trouble fall back on the fandom as a whole.
Just the reaction by some Fanyus about both the marriage annoucement, you can definetly tell that not all Fanyus think the same way.
Fanyus is not an entity with one brain. These are multiple fans with different behavior and I strongly believe the majority is like me sad and shocked about Yuzu's divorce news and the media treatment, but you or me we cannot speak for ALL Fanyus. There are different opinions and nuances within the Fanyu fandom and that's ok. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings and opinions and their way to support Yuzu. The bigger the crowd though, the more bad apples. We can ofc discuss if those bad apples can even be called "fans" but they'd call themselves Fanyus anyway and that falls back on Fanyu fandom, fair or not.
Fanyus made Yuzu bigger than the sport, more than just an athlete by bringing his fandom to new heights. It is not a bad thing per se, but with this kind of attention unfortunately the interest in this person grew beyond results and skating. He cannot be just an athlete, he didn't ask for being a celebrity but he is one and he wouldn't be one if not for the huge fandom. To say that the fandom has no impact at all on his personal situation is naive.
I am not blaming the Fanyus for Yuzu's divorce BUT imo Fanyus cannot deny their own impact and problematic behavior among them and I think it's important to have a conversation about Fanyus behavior and how to be a better fandom. But sure saying "Yuzu said it was media so we do everything alright" is so much easier than acknowledging problems among ourseleves. (Yes I am including myself there too because if I like it or not I am also part of this Fanyu fandom and atm I can't say I like it and I still feel so incredibly sorry for Yuzu)
Sorry this got out of hand again...well I said what I said...

I'm mostly out of the figure skating fandom, but it's always nice to get a reminder that it can be as toxic as the K-Pop fandom sometimes, if not worse.
Yuzuru and his partner did not deserve any of the media hackling they got and the fact that it lead to a divorce after only three months of being married is terrifying. He kept his partner's identity vague probably for this exact reason.
If someone wants to keep something secret then we, as fans, should respect that and not wait outside their home and write hatemail or something. Ffs, Cassiopeias handled this better.

A discordant Fanyu
I have been thinking if writing this or not. Then I have been thinking if posting it somewhere or not because I know this is not going to be a popular opinion, but maybe there is someone else who feel the same and would be relieved knowing they are not alone. I am a Fanyu and this is about Hanyu Yuzuru and his marriage announcement. If your only reaction has been happiness please skip this as it is not for you.
First of all let me say I will keep following and supporting Yuzuru because I do not expect people I care about to be perfect, quite the opposite, but at the same time it would be hypocritical of me to simply read other Fanyus comments, people I have come to know, respect and like over the years, without even trying to explain while I feel differently.
I have absolutely no problem with Yuzuru getting married, that is not my issue in this situation, but let me start in order to see if I manage to explain why I am sad and somewhat angry.
I love his skating. I could talk hours about the perfect technique he has, the amazing display of athleticism in his programs, or the incredible musicality in his performances and the universal value of his artistry. And all the above would be perfectly true reasons, but none would be the truest.
I fell in love with his skating at first sight because no one else ever brought so many raw emotions to the surface so fast for me. By nature I am utterly rational so I’ve spent years trying to analyze and understand why his skating, and by extension him as a person, made me feel so much every time. Of course I have not found one single definite answer as it is normal with emotions, they always are more than the sum of all their rational parts.
One of those parts is that something in his skating has always screamed at the audience with utter honesty: ‘Look at me, this is my soul on display! Feel my feelings because if you don’t I am alone! Love me because I need it! I am famished for it! If you adore me, my pain and tribulations are worthy. Stay with me, I only have you!’
The screams, at least to me, were so loud and sincere that my emotions resonated instinctively, trusting them without reserve, making them inevitable like turning around when I hear my name called out, or jerking at a sudden loud noise. But since Friday I feel like I have been empathizing with someone who talks about starving when he is sitting at a banquet, can eat what’s on the table at any time, and probably does when he turns around and I can’t see. Someone who’s been deceitful, either by choice or need.
Being a private person should not necessarily mean building a public persona utterly disjointed from who you really are and use it as a smokescreen to keep everyone around into safe prearranged roles, like small little pawns. There is being private and there is hiding behind privacy and social conventions because it is easier and less scary.
This is not a sacred truth and my perceptions can be totally wrong, but they are mine and this what I feel.
So my conclusion is I wish Yuzuru all the happiness in the world in every part of his life, and in his marriage and truly I hope he can find the love, the peace, the support, the fulfillment and the understanding he deserves with his wife and his family at large, but no, things are not the same. They cannot be and not because he has married someone, which is always a joyful occasion, but because I feel like I followed emotions that were not real and now I have to relearn from the start how to go about this, how to be a happy and proud Fanyu.

The yuzuru hanyu-fication of Timothy Drake
(Aka figure skater au Tim Drake as referenced from yuzuru hanyu bc I have an unhealthy obsession with both of them)
Just a quick sketch bc the amount of figure skating au content in this fandom is disparagingly low 😔

I don't like to point fingers but ever since rewatching Yuri On Ice this year after Yuzuru Hanyu skated to History Maker I feel like I've been going back to being an insane 14 year old and I think that's beautiful
I didn't remember the power those anime boys had over me, they have me eating fics and dreaming of them and drawing them even if I have 0 drawing skills and also their power has expanded to my other fandoms and it's sooooo
Also yoi is literally the only anime I've watched so it's crazy the hold it has on me

so it's common knowledge that the sekai taikai is big enough to where winners/participants could get sponsors/national recognition...
does this mean the competitors get treated like sports celebrities? because i want - no, i NEED an in universe fandom for the sekai taikai. there HAS to be a national following for each team.
the iron dragons HAVE to be huge online for all the championship wins they've scored under their bag - i mean come on, who isn't looking at sensei wolf and tweeting about him like he's yuzuru hanyu and this is the grand prix final - and people are shipping zara and axel like they're a power couple. oh wait - NEW AMERICAN TEAM? the previous years, they've kinda sucked: HOLY SHIT, THAT GUY HAS A GIANT MOHAWK. it's almost- no, it IS hideous. oh my god, aren't they that one dojo off the r/asklosangeles reddit? the one with the school fight? shit, these kids are scrappy, i hear their local tournaments are fuckin huge. miyagi-do? oh my god, there's lore for the japan team from like... 30-40 years ago. ever heard of a miyagi? how did his goju ryu end up being taught by two old white americans... and why are they lowkey bickering like a married couple? whew, that new girl from the korean team (who is NOT korean) is pretty good. we oughta interview her. HOLY SHIT, IS KARATE YUZURU HANYU RIPPING HIS SHIRT OFF?

Today’s translation #696
Brutus 2019/3/15, Takayama Makoto's essay
Part 2.
Another thing that left an impression on me was with how much care the characters - the competitors, their coaches and their families - were depicted. Despite the fact that so many characters make an appearance in the show, the unique characteristics of each one of them are very believable. I think that it's because the creators focused on each on of them separately, in order to create a character with a lot of depth.
In this show, a lot of different kinds of love exist. The love because coach and their student, friendship, familial love... And every kind of love is depicted as a wonderful thing, without ranking them, as better or worse. On the other hand, there is no hate. Even between the rivals - although there is jealously and the desire to win, they don't hate each other.
The love that is overflowing in this show is backed up by the love that flows in it's creators. In this love, the love and respect towards figure skating and all people linked to figure skating is also included.
In case of figure skating, I'm not a fan of any specific competitor. The top skaters are winning and climbing high, eventually standing on the world's stage, but we can't forget about all those skaters, who didn't make it that far. We are given the opportunity to enjoy figure skating, thanks to all the skaters, who give their everything into this sport.
It's the same in case of anime. A show can only be made, thanks to the steady effort of many people. In case of Yuri!!!, especially, watching the show, I strongly felt the presence of all the staff, whose wish was to show their love for figure skating and portray with great care how the world of figure skating looks like. Isn't that precisely why there is so many people charmed by this show?
[Notes: This guy is an author specializing in figure skating - he wrote books about Yuzuru Hanyu eg.
It's always a little bit funny feeling reading articles like this one for me - if you look at the fandom, the focus is basically only on the romantic relationship between Yuuri and Victor, and here you have one of the last articles about Yuri!!! in media, and per usual, there is no mention of that relationship, let alone anything romantic, and Yuri!!! is only ever shown as the amazing proper figure skating anime. It really seems to me, that in the end, probably there was a gap between the creators, the sponsors and the fandom that was so big, that it was too hard to continue...]

the yuzuru hanyu fandom is fucking toxic.
I say this as a fan, a HUGE fan who has been to multiple of his shows live and have met amazing people, have made wonderful friends because of Yuzu.
But the people online are something else. Why the fuck is everyone tearing each other apart and dividing into sides for something like this? The side I really don't understand are the hardcore defenders that murder anyone that speaks any kind of logic. You say you like Javi? MURDER. You dare say Yuzuru's wedding is upsetting you? You must be entitled as fuck and be delusional, fantasizing about marrying Yuzu /s.
I'm sick of this. Fucking twitter is such a shit hole. Can't we all be decent humans and offer a hand of sympathy for our sisters that are grieving? Like shit, when my sister married I cried my little eyes out and I knew it was coming for months. I cried not happy tears, but tears of grief, I cried for the loss of our childhood, the sister that I was losing to a new chapter of her life.
Selfishly, I wanted to keep her by my side.
Mourning someone is natural. Beautiful even, that we can collectively mourn someone we don't even personally know. It is the power of Yuzu. It is the feelings that have bloomed inside of us for someone we love, and feeling sad about it, upset, betrayed-it's human. We are all only human.
All of you that can happily smile and wish him the best, good for you, but don't shit on those that are feeling down. It's not your right to say how people should or shouldn't be feeling. Do you all realize the hypocrisy of your words?
Be kind to each other. It is what Yuzu would like.

What is the competition that Yuzu and Shoma competed in together that you wished you had seen in-person?
Do you want to make me cry because that's how you do it 😭😭😭😭
I wish I would have gone to Worlds 2017. Both of them were amazing at that event!
Worlds 2017 has so many great memories (in this place we forget Yuzu's SP existed 😅)
The part that makes it the competition I wish I would have seen is because I actually could have made the trip. Until then it just never occured to me to watch live competitions. But at least this event was the incitation to want to go to competitions in person, which I did in 2017 IdF 😊
Anyway back to Worlds 2017, here are some throwbacks:

☕️ Marc Marquez
so funny how i got into motogp with him it was from this throwaway twitter comment that was like "i dont do motogp but for some reason every time i see this guy he's always injured" and i was like Let Me Get To The Bottom Of This...and here we are. in all honesty his approach to the public and his injuries etc does not surprise me at all because before all of this i was really into figure skating and it was basically the same way yuzuru hanyu dealt with things. bit of context he's retired now but like, this was a young prodigy turned god who also had their career nearly shot down with horrific injury, in this case his right ankle (what are the chances) which was basically a chronic condition he kept having to deal with. a day in the fandom would be like, crickets because yuzuru is such a private person (the joke was that after competition season he would go into seclusion in his home city, he didn't even have social media (at least public) before retirement) and then an interview would drop where he would reveal something horrific like, yea i skated the entire 2018 olympics on painkillers (what). anyways you came here for my opinions on him not me doing a compare and contrast marc is sooo special to me i just love a guy who does evil things with a smile on his face and is a special kind of insane he's always doing something interesting (at least to me) i love weird guys it really is as simple as that
