emmawatson: 🏊🏽♀️💦🏅 I recently met Olympic swimmer, Yusra Mardini, from Syria who represented the first-ever Refugee Olympic Team in the Rio 2016 Olympics. 🦋✊🏽🏆 ••• Yusra has an incredible story: she fled the war in Syria with her sister, and was part of a group trying to reach Greece by boat. When the motor failed, Yusra, her sister and two others swam in open water for more than three hours to stop their dinghy from capsizing, saving the lives of 20 people. She is now the youngest ever UNHCR @ refugees Goodwill Ambassador, and you can all read her incredible story in her autobiography, 🦋 Butterfly 🦋. ••• It was so inspiring to meet you @ mardiniysra and I wish you all the best training for 2020! #withrefugees #sheplayswewin #ThisGirlCan

Girl Rebels
From what age are we allowed to change the world?
.
Firstly, I wish to thank @titancomics for reaching out and sending a copy of Girl Rebels in exchange for a review and to be a part of their book tour. Take a peek below to see what the book is about and my thoughts!
.
Follow the stories of six incredible women in modern history, including Greta Thunberg, Emma ‘X’ Gonzales, and Malala Yousafzai, among others.
Six girls, five empowering adventures. From climate activism to fighting for education and gun control, each story delves deep into the personal struggles and triumphs of remarkable individuals.
.
My thoughts:
This is one of the most inspirational graphic novels I've ever read. Out of the six stories, I was familiar with three and learned new things about these extraordinary young women.
The diversity of the stories with the art styles shine off the page. There is a lot of joy captured along with the devastation of what these girls were put through. In Yusra Mardini's story, there is a small panel of art that brought tears to my eyes, as one moment it is a normal day in your life and then next something catastrophic changes everything.
Yes, I cried a lot in this book. Tearing up at a little Greta Thunberg and her struggles before the protesting crossed her mind. Emma & The Parkland Kids took me right back to when the news broke.
What struck me throughout the book is that these experiences have happened in the timeliness of my life. I remember the story of Malala Yousafzai, how suddenly the image of this girl was everywhere and finding out what happened to her. A teenager myself at the time and being horrified to find out that young girls being educated in another part of the world was forbidden and could get you killed.
I adore nonfiction with chapters that are dedicated individually and give complete focus. I feel that the artists chosen to represent the woman featured were a perfect fit. There is tragedy in the pages, but the power, hope, and determination overcome it all. This left me so emotional and proud. Knowing how far these women have come and what can be achieved at a young age proves that a little change can lead to better futures.

Thank you for tagging me @candlelitutopia !!
tea, coffee, or soda? If i'm ill or hungover then tea (i have a large collection of herbal teas). But I'm a coffee girl really, I drink it black if I'm making it myself, I'm that kind of person.
dogs or cats? I think I'm more of a dog person? But I do love cats I'm allergic to both which doesn't help but yeah both really!
can you play any instrument? I'm still fairly confident I can play the clarinet despite not having played in 5 years. Bet I could still bang out a tune. I can sort of play the piano? And I want to learn the guitar again but eh...maybe over the summer.
what’s your sun sign? aries!
first song lyrics that pops into your head? "that's where the pain comes in, like a second skeleton."
do you have any tattoos? nope, I'm planning on getting some though, just need the money for it.
favorite place you’ve travelled? Errr I really liked Berlin, I was there on a history trip with my school so I didn't get to see much outside of that trip but I did enjoy it!
what’s the last movie you watched? The Swimmers on Netflix about Yusra and Sarah Mardini would highly recommend very good.
do you have any hobbies? Watching sports, playing tennis, playing cricket, drawing, reading, err kind of making music?
what languages do you speak?english, I'm learning spanish, french, and russian but I wouldn't call myself anywhere near fluency in any of them. Maybe spanish a little bit?
you can hang out with one fictional character for an hour, who do you choose? Get me in a room with Dr Lance Sweets, I bet he could fix me (free therapy for an hour? give it to me!)
compliment yourself! you're pretty cute and way braver than you give yourself credit for.
I'll tag @murraywalker @iishmael and @saintsnlancs
