Hypothesis: the reason "yuri experts" have the most middlebrow tastes you can imagine is that by defining "yuri" in advance, they understand the quality of yuri-ness as being about conforming to their prescriptive definition.

Thus, something which moves outside of the genre boundaries is under their radar or dismissed, unless it becomes enough of a trend to force a redefinition of the genre by expansion, at which point their tastes probably settle on a mid second- or third-generation copy.

Honestly how did they fuck up so bad to name the gay guys ice skating series Yuri on Ice . like you think someone would have gone hmmm you know considering this is about gay guys and we are making gay shit, so we obviously know what yuri means. But no they make the gay guys ice skating series with yuri in the title. Like yes yuri is just a name and just a word but considering it is slang for a gay thing in the other direction (women) and they made a gay thing (men). That they would choose something else as the name.
