Summary: Sukuna calls her Higanbana which is Japanese flower of dark symbolism, and it means “flower of the autumn equinox”; Spider lily.

On a rainy day in Tokyo, when the world was busy condemning Russia for invading seaside city of Crimea in the power grab, Sukuna Itadori was having a coffee. It was a drip coffee, served in a dark black mug, and he begrudgingly had to admit that overpaying for this was somewhat worth it.

“Coffee here is sufficient,” noted Kento Nanami, finishing his sandwich, and Sukuna attempts to not roll his eyes. Sufficient either meant mediocre or truly phenomenal in Nanami’s case. Even though Nanami was often doing exasperated him, Sukuna could not complain - on his list of shittiest sorcerers, Nanami was not scoring too high. Leadership board right now belonged exclusively to Satoru.

He fucking deserved it.

Cup of coffee clutched in hand, Sukuna takes a tentative sip before glancing out the window. It’s a cold day. Thankfully, inside the small shop is warm from all the people and steam.

Yet Sukuna stills abruptly, shoulders tensing in agitation. He knows that he’s is being watched before turning his head around. Can feel the weight of sharp eyes, and how the space between him and danger grows smaller, and he notices a woman gliding towards them.

“Morning gentlemen,” she acknowledges them politely, hands clasped behind her back, “Nanami, you looking sharp,” she beds over and leaves a kiss on sorcerer cheek. Sukuna cannot explain why he felt a flare of genuine envy but one look at his senpai makes him take that thought back. Nanami is always stoic and rarely shows any sign of fear or discomfort, but for a section of a second it was clear that he was unnerved by the presence of the woman.

She looks directly at Sukuna, unblinking and unnerving. At the moment in time, stars have aligned perfectly, creating an absolute point.

Under no circumstances was Sukuna Itadori to be considered soft. He is intimidating, mean and outright bully, unless, of course, you ask his younger brother who would die on the hill of “he just needs warning up to!”. He is incredibly powerful for someone quite young, and prides himself to be a master of combat. And for someone so terrifying, he is absolutely embarrassed to admit that for the first time since his puberty he is speechless at the sight of girl.

She is stood by the table, tight black dress hugging her pale body as a glove, sleeves almost covering dark nails, sharp like claws. She definitely was not purebred Japanese, as it was obvious by her porcelain features that she was most likely a foreigner if not a migrant.

“Kumo-san,” Nanami stands and bows in greeting, yet she doesn’t reciprocate, only sits down on the vacant chair, picking up dust from her dress. She is wearing heels and she has metal spiders hanging from her ears. Now to think about it, she had impressive amount of rigs on her fingers, most of which resembled some form of a skull, spider or something equally creepy.

Sukuna never felt remorse for killing a spider, but something told him that kind of behaviour won’t fly past her.

“This is Sukuna Itadori, semi-grade 1 sorcerer; he is accompanying me on this mission today,” introduces him Nanami, and Sukuna makes no movement towards shaking hands or bowing, only staring the woman down. She is not an easy person to intimidate, and he finds that incredibly annoying.

“Nice to meet you,” she says in perfect Japanese, but she does have a slight accent that hinted that it was not her first language. She has piercing in her nose that she was able to hide masterfully, and Sukuna could see outline of a tattoo on her collarbones and was immediately intrigued. It wasn’t such a big deal for a foreigner to have tattoos but it still was rare sight in Japan.

“I have heard of you, Sukuna Itadori,” she says with slight tilt of her head, “Rumours say that you have been on the streets killing curses since you were barely twelve.”

She does not break the eye contact.

“I expected a more menacing presence, I confess.”

“I can show you menacing.”

She irks an eyebrow, malicious mirth in her face.

“Oh yeah?”

He doesn’t respond. Jaw setting, he glares at her. She returns the frigid stare with burning dark eyes. Nanami pinches the bridge of his nose with a sigh.

“Itadori-san,” there is underlaying warning in his tone, “please show Kumo-san your outmost respect. She is a powerful sorceress, and is also semi-grade 1.”

“No need for flattery,” scolds him Kumo-san, finding her coffee more interesting than either of the men, “but it’s now grade one sorceress, if you must.”

Sukuna thinks that he would like nothing more than to see that smirk disappearing off her face.

The Pathologic Russian and English analysis: Clara Saburova the Changeling Part 2

I am finally free to have a single month of summer vacation, so I'm taking this opportunity to finish up the last of the healer to healer communication analysis. Are you excited? I sure am.

As the Haruspex: I uhhh… Don’t have much to say specifically about the differences between Clara in Russian and English that I haven’t already said. Like yeah, she acts differently with Artemy than she does with Daniil, but that is present in both of the versions - she is much more vulnerable and emotive with Burakh, while she is a lot more deceitful with Dankovsky (which is sorta muddled by the fact that he’s the only one of the two to meet her "twin"). She refers to Artemy using exclusively the informal “you” and has a very stubborn and argumentative way of speaking for most of it. The instances of the “biblical” way of speaking that I pointed out in the Bachelor route are less frequent here, and Clara comes across as, well, just a girl. I uh… Also think that the dialogue website I’m using might be missing the bit of dialogue on day 11 when Clara actually offers to help Artemy? It has the dialogue for when he’s already in the Kaiur, but not beforehand (and the wiki tells me that they do talk in person before that. Correct me if I’m wrong). Sooooo yeah, that’s about it. This analysis is a bit more… Explaining the references and intertextualities within the dialogue rather than discussing what translational differences imply, but I think it’d be a cool insight nonetheless. So let’s get started!

This is… Completely unrelated to any translation stuff, but I did want to provide a little bit of intertextual context for “Suok” to allow all the fans that don’t speak Russian to speculate about this on their own. I tried to look up and see if there were any other potential sources for this name, but haven’t been able to find any alternative ones. So here goes. Suok is a last name, which served as inspiration for a character name from the Russian story book “the Three Fat Men” by Yuri Olesha. Very briefly the story is about a town being held under the oppressive rule of the titular three fat men, who had each taken control of one of the town’s resources (that sure reminds me of someone). Suok in this story is a young circus performer, who pretends to be the previously broken doll of Tutti - the Fat Men’s heir. She does so to free one of the leaders of the revolution that has been captured and sentenced to execution. It is revealed in the story that Suok was actually the twin sister of Tutti, which is why the doll looked so like her - it was made to replace her. It’s not the most well known of Russian stories, but it’s recognizable enough for an expat like me to remember. Thematically I do think it’s funny that there’s a reference to a story where three powerful people attempt to squash a revolution (which is by the way led by two men), and a little girl with a twin ends up saving one of those revolutionaries from certain death. And the doll theming. However, if I’m just ignorant and there’s actually like… A Buryat or Mongolian name or entity that’s also called Suok and it’s actually a reference to that… I shall wear a dunce cap, or something, Idk.

I really wish that I could convey how… Story-like Clara’s way of speaking becomes here? Like, yeah, she does talk somewhat… “biblically” but this is not that. She’s not just reciting the events, the way the story is phrased and the language flows feels like she’s restating it word for word. Especially in the part where Clara talks about how Suok was unkillable by anything - it’s all one continuous sentence. It reminds me of, and this is truly truly obscure Russian stuff, that one cartoon about Kutkh the Raven and the four silly mice that kept annoying the life out of him (it’s on Youtube I believe, so go educate yourself on some fairytales from Kamchatka). Those stories have a way of being both lyrical and conversational at the same time - it uses improper grammar (like starting your sentence with “and”) and feels very casual in its sentence structure, but the words it chooses and the matter it discusses is grandiose and epic (in the literary sense). Also a fun little detail is that rather than saying that the abyss couldn’t claim Suok, Clara says that she “did not wish to return to the abyss.”

Adding to my collection of “Clara and Artemy are a comedic duo, actually” is this moment in which (while the English version makes it sounds a little ironic and cautious) Artemy just casually goes “wow, that’s just like us…” as Clara is telling him the Kin’s creation myth. Though you can’t tell me that he wouldn’t be the kind of person that looks at a Bosch painting and goes “that’s so me.”

More from the “fun Russian idioms” world…While we do have a translation of “a little bird told me” in Russian - it is exactly that - a translation. From English actually. The idiom used here is, as far as I know, an originally Russian one. Namely “a dog barks, the wind carries it” which is essentially just “yeah it’s gossip I heard on the street.” Nothing particularly significant about this difference, just thought y’all would appreciate it.

At this point I’m becoming painfully aware of the fact that calling these an analysis of a specific character is silly, because there’s always two people involved in the conversation, but the format has been set already sooo… I could wax poetic about how much more laconic Russian is in terms of threats (partially due to the fact that we don’t use articles and stuff) but also I can’t help but feel like this was much easily translatable? Like, the line is, essentially “let’s hope you don’t regret this!” which is very much a threat already. But I guess the translating team decided to take the road less travelled.

I think I may have peaked. It doesn’t get better from here, this is the ultimate achievement of this analysis. In the last instalment of the madness project I spent a whole paragraph trying to explain why the Bachelor calling Clara “trash” was actually a scathing, humiliating insult that was translated as “little tramp” for no apparent reason, which made it seem (at least to me) a lot less cutting. I’d ask you to look at that screenshot in the previous analysis to see if you spot anything familiar, but I don’t even have an exclusive tag for this madness project (I totally should tho) and I won’t subject you to the other stuff I’ve written in my ramblings. I’ll just cut the suspense here: In this dialogue Artemy uses the exact same word that was translated as “tramp” for Daniil. The word “дрянь” (dryan’), meaning trash or something too worn out and torn to be useful. I understand this must’ve been done because the Bachelor and the Haruspex are supposed to have very different vibes about them and because, as previously stated, the Bachelor doesn’t get to be nearly as aggressive as he is in Russian but like… Wow. I think I need this in a meme format or something, because it’s just so funny to me. To clarify, too: “дрянь” isn’t an explicit swear word. It’s an insult, but it doesn’t need to be censored or anything. Neither “tramp” nor “bitch” fits the translation more or less. And I think that’s hilarious that they translated it so differently for the two characters.

And we’re back in the realm of “interesting” instead of “baffling” and “confusing”. Instead of “dying” or “letting people die” the two of them specifically talk about “killing”. Artemy asks if Clara wants to kill Taya, making the situation a lot more malicious from Clara’s perspective (this is the whole quest with figuring out how the story that Clara started telling Taya ends). Pretty short for a note, but it’s also just interesting in terms of like… How malice is attributed to Clara in the Russian version, but seems impersonal in the English version.

Just as fascinating (and probably just as short of a note) is this line, where in Russian Artemy calls Clara “daughter” with a diminutive. A lot of Russian words have diminutives, but it doesn’t necessarily make them appear kinder. Actually with words like “daughter”, the non-diminutive version – “дочь” (doch’) – is used a lot less and usually feels colder and more distant. The version with the diminutive – “дочка” (doch’ka) is the one used in everyday conversations. If you want to add endearment to the word, you’d have to put in another diminutive, making the word “доченька” (dochen’ka). That being said, I guess calling someone who isn’t related to you “son” or “daughter” isn’t too uncommon (though I usually picture it being said by like… grandmas on a bench, or helpful fairytale entities), though your everyday person is much more likely to just say “girl”, “boy”, or “kid”.

Not a translation difference, but I’ve already included a bunch of intertextual references in this particular analysis, so why not one more, huh? The story that Clara tells about the crystal flower, while obviously being an allusion to the town and the polyhedron, specifically referring to the utopian ending (cutting down the living flowers instead of the crystal flower -> razing the town and leaving the tower to stand) also reminds me of a specific story within the “Malachite Box” collection of the fairytales by Pavel Bazhov (check them out if you can, it’s a bunch of folk tales from the Ural mountains and they’re fascinating and incredibly dark). Specifically “the Stone Flower” - a story following Danila - an orphan boy that becomes a master-stone carver, but struggles to finish an order that doesn’t fit his own particular standards. He is told of the Stone Flower in the lair of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain (a force of nature entity that’s recurring in the “malachite box”) and how seeing it will allow someone to understand the stone and how to carve it. However he is warned that all who’ve seen it have always remained in the mountain, working for the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. Danila does, indeed, manage to see the stone flower and return to his bride, but what only manages to stay for so long before he destroys almost every single one of his creations and disappears without a trace. It’s left up for debate whether he simply went mad and perished in the woods, or if he returned to the Copper Mountain. I do think there are some parallels to be drawn between this story and Pathologic’s polyhedron – specifically in how it relates to Peter Stamatin. Not a one to one comparison, of course, but there’s something to be said there about the madness that comes with creating or trying to create something bigger than yourself, to the point where it’s less of the human world and more of the world of miracles and myth.

Not a particularly drastic difference here, but just wanted to point out that the whole “your lies are so crafty…” bit of this dialogue isn’t… actually present in the Russian version? I think the translating team kinda got used to the fact that this dialogue is almost the same as when Daniil talks to Clara, so they’ve added in this line even though Artemy just says “I’m fed up with you”.

To sum it up: yeah, I don’t have much. Clara is a fascinating character to me, but I do think that she is fascinating in both English and Russian. She’s a multitude of contradictory things, and she is condemned by those around her for either not fitting into the category they believe her to belong to, or being exactly what they believe her to be. She doesn’t get a break. Most of the differences between English and Russian have been just slightly “vibe altering” ones, and it’s a bit difficult to place a finger on the reasons why those changes I made. Like, with Daniil I could generalise that in an attempt to make him seem cold and detached, he accidentally lost a lot of his emotiveness. I have made the argument that Clara’s Russian dialogue makes her come across as more meta-aware (and there’s something to be said about how I argued that Clara and Aglaya are very idealistically opposed about the exact same belief and how that notion is echoed in Clara’s dialogue with Artemy) but at the end of the day… Yeah, the translators did a pretty good job with this one. I’ve said before that it’s not really a good idea to have every piece of dialogue include a footnote explaining what every word means (at least in a game like Pathologic. A game focused on education would be soooo fun with those. Like Martial Law, for example) but to add to that: I think it’s pretty cool that Ice Pick Lodge managed to create a game that is so distinctly Russian, that even a city boy like me can understand, despite taking place in the steppe. And at the same time, you don’t have to be Russian to understand it. I’ve provided a bit of intertextual context here, but you don’t actually need it to feel and understand what makes it so compelling, as seen by the fact that this game is beloved both in and outside of Russia. And I love that for all of us.

And that is it, folks, at least for the three healers and how they interact with each other. Up next (and hopefully not several months later) I'm gonna examine the shared dialogue that the healers have with the townsfolk. I guess that one will be both comparing the similarities and differences between the languages and between the three of them. Yippeee.

A brother's secret is another's nightmare

A little note before we get into the actual fic, I am not the best at writing, my spelling is shit (thanks dyslexia) and I have the mouth of a sailor.. Also, I will probobly end up with veryyyy Out of Character Yasushi and Binzo but it's whatever 🤷🏻‍♂ hopefully you enjoy it non the less.

Sumary: Binzo's secret twin brother who no one really knows about is friends with Oya, and gets set up on a blind date with his crush by said crush's bestie and eventually all chaos ensues, ala high and low's typical fashion

Warnings: Extreamly terrible writing, swearing, its a high and low fic so violence and language are kinda inevitable. I use a random name i got from google for the main character, please don't be mad lol

Binzo has always been fiercely protective of his secret twin brother, that much was for sure...But the twin knew that his brother would be so absorbed in his affairs with the Suzuran's Raho faction, he will never find out about his own hidden life, right?

The young teen boy, Binzo's secret brother named Yuri had long stayed a secret, his brother knew everything about him and wanted to protect the fragile seeming boy, but because of his position in the Raho faction at Suzuran, he had not been around as often, and getting bored easily, Yuri took to making friends with other boys his age, one being Fujio of Oya and then the others of oya too. Two boys in particular became close to him, Kyoshi and Yasushi, becoming inseparable as a trio, and soon enough the ladder of the two found himself crushing on the mysterious boy, named Yuri.

His brother thought him to hide who he was related to well, so he knew being anywhere near Oya as a rival's brother would not work well, but when he was with them, he didn't even remember who his brother was, or the school he attended. He simply was him and falling hard for Yasushi...which considering Kyoshi knew pretty much everything about his partner in crime, fellow chaos gremlin and brother from another mother, he knew both boys had fallen for each other over the span of a few months. Todoroki and the others soon would grow annoyed with the two trying to flirt but backing away with it as if the other wasn't just as shamelessly in love with them too. Kyoshi planned with Jamuo to set up the head strong couple on a blind date, one where you would think nothing could go wrong, fool proof in the eyes of the excited Oya gang's most excited.

Yuri approaches a beautiful cherry blossom tree, one by a body of water that glimmered in the light, a little garden with a pond that had frogs singing softly through the warm breeze. Yasushi had followed a lit path to a blanket, soon meeting up for what both boys had thought was a group hang out, though it seemed fancy in the eyes of the two but none the less brushed off as an attempt at a high school friend night that was made to be affordable but still look nice.

"Are we the only ones showing?" Yuri breaks the silence of the shy couple after reading a simple text from Jamuo to have 'fun' on 'the date'..

"It appears to be that way.. but they are missing out on some really good food!" The blonde who tends to seem sour to untrained friend eyes said to the other teen, his dark red dyed hair shone like a dim and dark halo. "But I think we were just set up... On what would be called a blind date." The chuckle Yasushi let fall from his slightly chapped lips causing butterflies to fall into Yuri's stomach as he swept dark red velvet locks from his face with a bobby pin that he always carried with him.

As the two teens one oya, one secret suzuraun spoke softly, blushing, laughing and behaving like a couple, another teen, also from Suzuraun looked on in disbelief, he knew his twin had tried to follow his orders, protecting Yuri from being a target for opposing school gangs, but he had no clue his younger by five minuets brother was friends with Oya. But he knew he would be able to handle himself in a fight, taught by Binzo himself to survive one if absolutely needed. He left not thinking much of it, and missed something in the distance that would for sure have caused his blood to boil, maybe even start an all out war between schools.

"Yuri, I really really like you. As more than a friend. And tonight was wonderful, we both needed it more than I thought, away from everyone else, away from the chaos for a few hours. Will you be my boyfriend officially?" This seemed like the first time Yasushi had ever been so anxious, not something he did often, and of course his heart in his ears made him worry that the other boy could hear his pulse loud and clear in the soft moonlight.

"Of course 'Shi, I love you with all my heart, I have for a while now. As silly as it sounds, my worries of it being one sided only are just subsiding, I am glad you like me too." Red velvet hair tickled the blonde's face as the secret twin of Binzo leaned in and kissed a rival of his own twin, blood rushing adrenaline through him as he did, now his boyfriend, and he knew this would have to be his one and only best kept secret from his protective zombie fighter of a brother. The kiss sent both boys off into the world of bliss, hands intertwining with a delicate care, love the only emotion surging through the crisp spring nightfall air.

A couple attached at the hip was now a common sight at Oya, and though no one other than Kyoshi said it, they were all glad the two had finally gotten together, Todoroki himself seemed to let out a breath of relief when he laid eyes on the hands holding onto one another that belonged to Yasushi and Yuri, though he kept it to himself, he knew it would balance the energy of the erratic blonde before him.

Not too long later, Oya and Suzuraun united to fight, and while Yuri had stayed out of it all, he had rushed to pack a big duffle bag of first aid, knowing that his love would be battered pretty well, and the last time it had happened, the dark red haired boy had let his sobs free, his fear as he kissed his lover's lips and tried to be ever gentle with him, causing him to vow he would always come through with as much as he could to help him from then on after a particularly hard battle.

Long forgotten were the thoughts about his brother having been dispelled from his mind, not thinking he would be there as he rushed to where he knew his darling blonde devilish angel would be, the fight had clearly been over, bodies groaning in pain on the ground, the boy carefully stepping to avoid them but looking for a mop of blonde hair tied up on one side into small braids that only went half way down the side of his head, cascading into a soft flow of sandy clouds.

"YASUSHI!!" Yuri scurries to his partner, opening the bag he brought and pulling him to sit by him on a stack of mats he had formed in the gym to help be more comfortable for the other. "Fucking hell, you look like you got the shit beat out of you with a fucking iron fist darling." Pouts the hidden twin, his frown making his adoring boyfriend let out a pained chuckle as he holds his middle, "I am ok baby boy, just a little run down, nothing I can't handle." Yasushi promises, missing Binzo having an alarmed look on his face as he sees his brother patching up an oya, the same one he was with months earlier in the garden, and then to his horror kissing Yasushi, being careful of the split lip and blood drying on in flaky cakes of smeared crimson. "Babe, you had previous injuries, its only natural I worry." Yuri sighs, remembering the fear he felt when he saw a haggard Kyoshi and a not much better Yasushi.

"WHAT IN THE FUCK IS THIS MIYAUCHI YURI?!?!" Binzo roars, causing his twin to jump and all of the occupants of the gym to fall silent, non of them expecting a relative to Binzo in their midst.

"You said you wanted no one to know we were twins right? This was me being not your twin, blending in and falling hopelessly in love with my boyfriend." "Wait-wait wait..."Tusksaka sais, befuddled by the sudden commotion that all were watching with pure shock, "Yuri is your twin? Heads up, Yasushi and Yuri have been dating for months, sooooo um... yeah, they are together and you will have to buck it up. We all love your brother, and he too is friends with Fujio, much like Raho himself."

"HOW DID WE NOT KNOW HE HAD A TWIN??" Mercy says, he sounded alarmed,surprised and at the same time impressed as his voice cut through the thick tension that hung upon the air, like a thick blanket in winter.

"I had him keep it hidden to protect him, told him to act normal because I didn't want him a target, but I also taught him to fight for emergencies, he has a mean right hand hook, I have to say. But I worried he would be a target, one that could be avoided, so I hid him...Had I known about this...."Binzo feels the air deflate from his lungs, letting out a sigh, "Hurt my brother and you will have to pay."

Yuri hears his twin grumble as he walks away, hand running though his crazy hair, his signiture look of his own.

"Sorry you had to find out like this and see him blow up." Yuri whispers, laying his head on Yasushi's shoulder as he felt his partner wrap his slender arm around his waist, something the two often did on Oya's rooftop on a sunny day.

"All that matters is that I love you." Yasushi says softly, breaking his normal tough guy act long enough to kiss his head and then glare at the crowd, "What the hell do you all think ya are fucking looking at??"

This was only the start of something bigger, a love for the ages.

Yes, Edgar certainly reminds me someone! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But not with personality or appearance... I don't know. The VIBE. That person knows i LOVE Edgar, that person can read this post, that person knows that 1-3 times per month I ask him to cosplay Edgar!!!11!

And also after playing Bloodborne I found a type of young men that I call "Edgar". I think almost everyday 1 or 2 Edgars come to flower shop where I work. It's a certain type - 16-30 years old, OFKOS with glasses, very shy, avoids eye contact or STARES into your soul, sometimes edgy, acts weird and tries to pretend everything is okay. LOL. So it's okay if we walk with my husband and I accidentally say "ooh, it's Edgar there again"

I want to draw a shitpost, where Edgar follows Micolash everywhere and Micolash tries to avoid him and discovers that Edgar is yandere xdd I want to draw him as a child that begs everyone to show him Ludwig because he is his hero... Both and much more. He is doomed by a narrative but is really important for the whole story. Edgar gaving suicidal thoughts, addiction to sedatives, personal life problems (he never had a true family, and Yurie hadn't want to be his family when he grew up), Micolash (as a whole problem), unrequites unnecessary painful love to the one who killed you (also Micolash) - okay! But also I really enjoy imagining him being happy having a cool mentor (who is also VERY silly), finding peace in his heart when Micolash is around, being hugged by Damian and more and more!

He does!! Actually Edgar for me projects the problem of a "little man" (I am not sure if this termin should sound like that in english. I read that it's mostly from russian literature so idk sorry).

Edgar is not naturally gifted, not really talented. Though he can hear more voices from beyond than anyone else (ability like Rom has, but weaker) but it doesn't help him even a BIT, only annoys and scares. He is just a man with wounded pride, who has many fears, who needs attention, who wants to be loved, to be praised, to feel that someone needs him, know that he worths something.

So yes, he inspires me, I can say everyday! Reminds that every human has a story behind! And we all are just people, and any of us is like a blanket with many patches (if you joke about the last word, I'll mercilessly find you I swear) (<<<<<joke) (for now)

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady or as we'll be calling it for the rest of this review, Magirevo is an amazing yuri anime series. It made a lot of interesting choices in it's adaptation to make the 12 episodes very punchy, fast paced and really get to the heart of the series without spending a lot of time pondering. I do wish the series was longer and we had more time for getting into people's feelings, the lives of the side characters, etc but the 12 episodes we did get are superub. The anime starts a little slow and it's jokes don't land nearly as well as the manga but the comedy in this series is mostly pushed away for action.

It was a really smart choice to turn Magirevo into more of an action yuri in terms of having it reach a wider audience. The action looks very cool and it makes a lot of sense with the ending they were building to with a dramatic fight that decides what will happen with the future of the kingdom. Everything is very intentionally building to the ending and it makes a lot of the choices make a ton of sense.

Our Protagonist Anis is charming, she is funny, she's very relatable to me even as a dumb ass because she feels very real to a lesbian who is living in a fantasy world. Euphy is very much tied into the royalty, nobility, the sense of duty but the show is also super empathic to her plight and her feeling like she had a role and it was taken form her and the grief she felt about it. The side characters Tilty, Lainie and Ilia are both really good side characters whom I really wish got much more attention but at the very least every scene with them in it was a banger, when they get to talk, it's good. A lot of the other characters I found more annoying or like they were serving their role in the story.

I think the show's politics were lacking in the detail and care they needed and it is something I really hope we could see that expanded if the show were to magically gain a second season. As for the first season I think the politics were at play were all there to serve the plot and more important to serve directly as an oppressive structure for Anis who feels like she can escape it only to be dragged in again more and more. We see that system slowly killing her soul and I think that is an effective way to show the problems with the system. The main issue is that our main villain does wish to tear down the system but we aren't given a really appropriate counter weight till like epilogue scenes wrapping up the anime.

I think another place I would have loved just a bit more care in is the queer politics of the show. The anime is explicitly gay, like we get 3 gay kisses in the 12 episode run which I mean I can't say about most other shows ever. Yet, Magirevo kinda plays off Anis's dad's homophobia is a bit, a little joke and it was upsetting to like humanize him without resolving that. We jut kinda hand waved it completely. There is some implication that maybe he is bisexual later but it's all like subtext, there is no exploring that, there is no slow moment of like understanding or whatever. We understand that the politics by the elders is like very heteronormative and we show that as like a traumatic instrument but we don't get a lot of time to really explore the queerness even just on it's own merit.

All that critical stuff said OMG I love it, the animation is so good, it's very gay, the girls are super cute, I do wish Tilly and Anis got together but like that is shipper shit [in a poly waym not in a replacing Euphie way], I the pacing is great, the action scenes are so cool, I love this anime. This is for sure going in my list of favorite animes of all time, for sure.

his entire backstory is so good. the original trilogy had like four pairs that all reflected each other and i’m so excited to ramble publicly about this instead of annoying my brother— like. okay. we all know that price-soap was THE duo of the OG games. but there’s also shepherd-allen, zakhaev-makarov, and makarov-yuri. HEAR ME OUT ON THIS.

price-soap is very much a mentor-mentee relationship. price basically took soap under his wing after the latter joined the SAS and helped him become the best of the best. this really reflects shepherd-allen and zakhaev-makarov, which are both darker adaptations of this duo. shepherd-allen involves someone “good” (allen) being manipulated and influenced by someone “bad” (shepherd) in order to achieve a goal. zakhaev-makarov is even darker, with someone “bad” (zakhaev) training someone (makarov) to become even worse, or, in their minds, the best of the best. it’s all in reverse.

makarov-yuri is a LITTLE bit different here, since the two are closer in age. they met sometime in 1994 or (more likely) 1995, when makarov was 24-25 and yuri was “young”, but old enough to be spetsnaz (likely ~22 years old). the two became friends because zakhaev liked yuri’s patriotism and loyalty to his country, so he and makarov welcomed him in with promises of “restoring russia’s glory” and all that bullshit that the ultranationalists preached y’know. still, makarov and yuri became close friends and yuri spent the next 16 or so years thinking he was doing right by his people and helping his country, ONLY TO FIND OUT WHEN MAKAROV NUKED 30,000 PEOPLE THAT OH?? WE’RE THE BAD GUYS???

most people think that yuri didn’t betray makarov until 2016, during the airport massacre/no russian. HOWEVER. soap’s journal (my beloved) mentions yuri a couple times, and one of those times soap says something along the lines of “nikolai vouches for him (yuri), says they go way back.”

nikolai was literally introduced as an ultranationalist informant. it’s completely possible, if not LIKELY, that the two met while nik was undercover, and that after the nuke (which happened after nik was compromised), yuri got into contact with him. yuri says in his flashback sequence that the nuke was when he realized “this wasn’t war, it was madness” and i’m just like… y’all really thought a man saying that was gonna be chill for the next five years? i’m convinced he was feeding nikolai information, and the reason why makarov didn’t confront him until the airport massacre was because makarov trusted him, so he didn’t discover the betrayal until then.

HE’S SO COMPLICATED OKAY HE THOUGHT HE WAS DOING SOMETHING RIGHT ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT HE WAS IN THE WRONG AND THAT HE HAD TO FIX THE MISTAKES HE MADE. like, when he’s introduced in MW3, nikolai straight up tells price that yuri’s the only person that hates makarov more than he does. most of that hatred is DEFINITELY yuri feeling betrayed by the person he was closest with, but i’m willing to bet part of that anger was his own self-hatred for what he had done. it’s easier to project it onto someone else, to find someone easy to blame for his own mistakes. he WAS manipulated and lied to. however, he was still responsible for his own actions. makarov never forced his hand, yuri made his choices.

i could say more. his tattoos give so much info. the fact that he even ended up in that situation says so much to me. but froggi. bestie. his personality. no one talks about it enough.

his personality is a little difficult to see because he’s silent most levels and only talks occasionally during cutscenes. BUT THAT’S WHY “DUST TO DUST” AND “BLOOD BROTHERS” ARE THE BEST LEVELS. he’s literally just— like. okay. he literally starts off dust to dust by making a fucking joke. he and price are getting shot at, about to kill their greatest enemy, and this dude cracks a joke. makarov’s men are yelling and shooting at them, and yuri looks at price and just goes, “i think they know we’re here! :)” like YEAH. THEY SURE DO. KISS ME RIGHT NOW.

but also just. he’s a mixture of methodical planning and research – he memorizes info, he pays attention to people and their patterns. he was makarov’s right hand man, the second-in-command of the inner circle, one of the loyalist commanders (and probs the most involved of the three). his literal job after joining the ultranationalists was to escort and guard makarov. he was constantly working against overt AND covert enemies, he didn’t survive that job for 20 years by NOT knowing how to read people.

i said he’s a mixture because he’s also reckless as hell. not anymore so than someone like soap, but in “dust to dust”, price has to reel him in. after the elevator sequence, yuri just. picks up a frag grenade, throws it, and sprints right after it?? also vaults over a couch so that was hot as fuck, but price literally has to go, “yuri your armor’s gone, BE FUCKING CAREFUL” because he’s just rushing in. he wanted blood and i’m just… 🫣. usually he’s patient and takes the time to do things smart. but he’s also perfectly willing to use dangerous tactics and risky maneuvers to get the job done. he keeps his composure alarmingly well, but there are things that can make him lose it because he’s still human. like in blood brothers? after he and soap fall from the tower and are laying on the street?? yuri’s barely awake, barely ALIVE, and he’s desperately reaching out to soap, one of his ONLY true allies, trying to save him. i’m so confident in that moment being horrible for yuri. one of his only friends and allies was killed by his former friend, and even though yuri’s presence wasn’t the reason for the bomb being planted, i can guarantee that he blamed himself for soap dying.

i’m just. AUGSSKDLWJWHFKDBWBDLFOWJ. i’m sliding down the wall ripping my hair out screaming crying rattling my cage bars losing my mind. i love yuri so much. he’s so interesting and the fact that people only talk about him when talking about makarov makes me so sad. like yes the two are very important to each other’s stories but C’MON. yuri may have a buzzcut and blue eyes but he’s also my gorgeous babygirl that can SPRINT while carrying a 6’2” man on his shoulders in a sandstorm 🤭

he’s also legitimately the reason why my brother thought COD had super soldiers. the amount of shit yuri survived and the sheer amount of stuff it took to kill him is insane. it took a consecutive TWO direct-impact rockets, being set on fire, impaled on metal, AND three bullets to the chest and head to finally kill him??? he deadass survived being shot point-blank, another rocket that led to him falling down a cliff into a raging river five days after being shot, falling out of a clocktower (like TEN stories??) and slamming into scaffolding before landing on a stone road, price punching him down a flight of stairs like 30 minutes after, ANOTHER DIRECT-HIT ROCKET—

it’s wild. he’s my indestructible beloved military wife. my main oc is a medic because this man needs someone to treat his wounds around the clock. i love him so much it’s not even funny. if he’s not in the reboot i’m marching down to IW and activision and starting a riot. if he does appear then i’m gonna write fics faster than the speed of light. i’ve already got plans for a makarov/reader/yuri fic that’s gonna be pure filth because i’m a simp.

Expectations When Expecting (Prologue)

Chapter 1

Chapter 2:

Yuu swayed on her feet, feeling dizzy as she clung to the wall that kept her from falling. On the other side of the door were loud chatters of what appeared to be an all male population.

The voices were a good way to keep herself distracted. Easy girl. Deep breaths.

"Hey, does anyone know where the headmage went? He disappeared midway through the ceremony..." She heard an alluring voice echo from the other side. She heard there was a more quiet response, however was entirely unable to make out what was said.

She heard a much funnier response, a loud and innocent voice resounded. "Maybe he had a tummy ache?"

She heard a faint bird sound as Crowley slammed open the door. "I most certainly did not!" He announced defensively. She cringed, noting the countless eyes on them.

"Ah, speak of the devil." A crimson haired boy mumbled.

"If you must know, I was searching for the new student who'd failed to show up for orientation!" He stated, ignoring how Yuu attempted to cower back. Crowley turned to face the pregnant woman and gestured for her to make her way to an ominous mirror that reflected nothing but darkness.

"You are the only one who has yet to be assigned a dorm. Step up to the Dark Mirror, and be quick about it. I'll watch your weasel." He gave her a quick smile pushing her forward, ignoring the annoyed growl that came from her.

She shook, disoriented and afraid as she stumbled to stand before the mirror.

"State your name." A deep voice echoed in the room as a face materialized within the mirror. It took Yuu every fiber of her being to not take a step back.

"I am Yuri." She responded, her voice sounding foreign to her.

"Yuu..." The dark eyes of the man in the mirror bore into her being as if looking for something. "The nature of your soul is...." He narrowed his eyes, confused. "Unclear to me..."

There was a dramatic gasp from the students as the room erupted into whispers. The headmage stepped forward in surprise. "What did you just say?"

"It is strange..." The man in the mirror spoke again. "I sense no magical power from this one. Soundless. Colorless. Shapeless. Utterly vacant. Therefore, no dorm would be appropriate. However... there is something unique about this one."

"Are you suggesting that the black carriage went to receive a person who cannot even use magic? But that is absurd!" The Headmage claimed, looking at the mirror. "The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! How could this have happened?"

Yuu heard the struggling once more from Grim as he practically pried his lips open, gasping. The cat huffed for a moment, readjusting the feel of his jaw before he called out, "ME! Let me have his seat!"

Crowley merely grimaced, already distressed from the news of a magicless student in his presence, simply sneered at the little monster in annoyance. "Not so fast, you hyperactive weasel!" He attempted to readjust his grip on Grim's body, only for Grim to wriggle his way out of the Headmage's arms and land gracefully onto the floor.

"Unlike that human, I can actually use magic! So let me be a student here!" He demanded before he paused for a moment to think. His sapphire eyes widened as his little mind formulated a fool-proof plan. "Look, I'll show you! My spells're the cat's meow!"

A boy called out from the crowd, a clear warning for those nearby. "Everyone! Get down!" Yuu turned away, shielding her belly despite being only in her second month. She felt the suffocating heat wave erupt from behind her and noticed a faint, blue light that reflected on the window.

"Dammit, cat!" She hissed in annoyance, turning to see the chaos. Right next to her was a flailing young man with wimborne white hair and the most beautiful crimson eyes.

"AAAAHHHHH!!! Help! I'm on fire over here!" He yelped. Yuu looked lower only to notice exactly how comedic the situation truly was. Similarly to an old cartoon, the boy's butt was indeed on fire. Despite being nineteen, Yuu couldn't help but find this funny.

The young woman had missed what Crowly had shouted, instead opting to go help the poor boy put out the fire.

"Hey, didn't anyone ever tell you about 'Stop, Drop, and Roll?'" She asked teasingly. She saw the boy pause for a moment, confused.

"No? Is that a dance move?" He questioned, still fanning at the flames.

Yuu covered her giggle with a cough as she continued to instruct the boy. "Just get on the ground and try rolling around. It'll probably work a bit better than fanning the fire." She watched the boy do as instructed until the flames went out.

"There we go!" She smiled at him. "It's usually best to smother fire. Fanning them can make them bigger." She informed, helping him up.

"Thanks! You're really smart!" The boy spoke cheerfully. His smile was contagious, reminding her of one of her closest friends.

"Ah, I'm not that smart. I pretty much learned from first hand experience." She said dismissively. I may as well introduce myself.

"My name is Yu-" She began before she heard a booming voice call out a familiar phrase.

Rita's preference to trust blastia over people stems as far back as her childhood. She often found herself left alone for lengths of time, left to her own devices. She had to learn to take care of herself from a young age, too, especially after she was orphaned. The people of Aspio did their best to look out for her, but even from a young age she was deemed as weird even by the standards of Aspio's residents. So she turned her attention to blastia. They wouldn't abandon her, she decided as she threw herself into researching. It took her a great deal of time to realize Yuri and the others were trustworthy.

Coupled with the above, Rita's social awkwardness extends back to those formative years. Since she had very little contact with people her own age, and even people in general, it led her to not really knowing how to deal with people. She learned her anger kept people away from her, and that suited her fine. So she embraced it, preferring books and blastia to the people she didn't know how to interact with in the first place.

It should come as no surprise that Rita is a prodigy when it comes to her magic as well as her intelligence. Her specialty is her fire artes, which should also come as no great surprise. Yet despite her ability to master difficult artes fairly quickly, Rita still prefers Fireball as her go to fire arte. She discovered its potential to become more powerful the more she used it, growing from firing off a single fireball to multiple. Plus, it's one of her quicker artes to cast when Raven or someone else is annoying her.

She's always been more of a cat person than a dog person. They get a bad rap, she thinks, from people who don't understand. Cats aren't unsociable, they just have their favorite people and take time to warm up to newcomers. Just like her. Though she'd never admit that much out loud. She also tries to keep how cute she thinks cats are from her friends and people who know her in general. But Estelle knows. Rita's okay with that.

Rita definitely has a big crush on Estelle. Since she doesn't know how to handle that, she tried to put up an especially thick barrier when first meeting the princess. That's also why it took her so long to start using Estelle's nickname. She isn't certain if Estelle has similar feelings for her or not, though. After all, Estelle and she both have never had friends their own age before. For all she knows, Estelle is oblivious to the fact that Rita is crushing on her. But maybe someday that will change. If she ever figures out how to actually put it into words.

Rita lives in what can only be described as organized chaos. To outsiders, the way she keeps her home makes no sense. Books all over the place, sleeping in a loft, the place being a mess... but Rita can work well with the way she lives. She also does still have that little place we see her in in The First Strike, but she doesn't go there as often. Rita doesn't like her stuff getting messed with, but she also isn't afraid to wreck her own stuff if it means keeping people from breaking in. But that does lead to her kicking herself later if she's wrecked specific books.

While she does help out with Brave Vesperia guild work from time to time, Rita isn't an officially recognized member of the guild. Mostly this is because she doesn't want to get caught up in guild and empire nonsense. Still, she knows it means a lot when she does help out. So if she has the time and Brave Vesperia happen to be in the area, she'll lend a hand.

Rita once was afraid of flying. Over time that lessened considerably, as evidenced by the end credits where she clearly had built some kind of flying contraption to visit Estelle. She's not quite sure when it lessened, but she can't really complain.

Her fear of ghosts mostly stems from the logical standpoint. She can't explain them, and if there's no explanation for them then it freaks her out. Now this doesn't apply to everything, of course. Mostly just ghosts.

She hates admitting it to herself, but a part of her does care about Raven to some degree. Even after the whole kidnapping Estelle and almost dying at Baction stunt. That doesn't mean he doesn't annoy the snot out of her at the best of times even still.

My Review of My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999

Humor me. Who else thought this was going to be a sequel to Ore Monogatari (My Love Story) where Takeo and Yamada go all the way? I can’t be the only one with that sick thought. Okay completely unrelated anime, let’s see what you got.

Akane Kinoshita is out with her boyfriend Takuma…and she gets dumped. Yep, not even 30 seconds into the first episode and she gets dumped. He’s leaving Akane for a girl he met in an online game that he and Akane were playing together. After the breakup, Akane went on the game she got into because of her ex and went on a killing-spree of monsters. Just then, she meets another player named Yamada who looks like Saitama if he had a weird afro on. It takes him two minutes just for a simple reply. Akane gets annoyed and basically tells him off. After some time from the breakup, Akane decides to go to this on-site event for the game she was playing. Never mind getting freebies for the game, she’s going merely for the fact her ex might be there and wants to flaunt the goods to make him regret leaving her.

Things did not go according to plan. Akane trips and falls down on her way to stalk her ex. The person she bumped into is a handsome young man of few words. Akane realized that this mysterious boy is that Yamada she met in her game prior to this event. Well, Akane is face-to-face with her ex. What does she do? Lies and says Yamada is her boyfriend and even bribes him to keep up the farce. Yamada is quite aloof and can be blunt with the things he says…if he says anything. But what Akane doesn’t know is that Yamada is a pro-gamer.

While the boyfriend lie is merely for whenever Akane’s ex is around, Akane has a nice friendship with not only Yamada, but his inner circle as well.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: Even though this was a Crunchyroll exclusive (in association with Aniplex of America), this didn’t see a dub until a good six months after the series had started. Normally, I’d be concerned. But this did happen during the actor’s strike, so I’ll think no more on the matter. And that’s all I’ve got here. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

DISLIKED CHARACTER: No, it’s not Runa. As much as I love to dunk on those little girls who latch onto the hot character and glare at the obvious main attraction, I actually hate jerky ex-boyfriends who quickly dump their girlfriends over trivial shit more. Yeah, Akane’s ex can kick rocks for all I care. While we only see him two times in the whole show, his breakup with Akane really messed her up.

SHIPPING: Yamada is oblivious when it comes to females. He didn’t even know a girl was confessing to him in the second episode. There’s no way in hell he’s going to fall for Akane. Never mind, dragging her drunk ass to his home in the first episode. As it turns out, Akane and Yamada had quite the cute friendship for the greater majority of this season. And as the series progressed, several of their friends were all for them getting together (even if the two characters aren’t going to do so). But we have to remember that Yamada is going to do what Yamada does. He can be blunt and slow to respond. Yet he somehow acts differently when it comes to Akane. The blunt and slow responses are still there, but he almost acts on a weird impulse at times with her.

Elsewhere, Yamada is quite the favorite around school and elsewhere. There are so many girls at his school that think he’s cute. And then there’s Runa! A lot of insecurities to unpack with this little one. But the fact that she at first wanted to keep Yamada all to herself and push Akane on some rando guy really speaks volumes. That action of Runa’s almost landed her on my dislike category. But I left her off because I grew to like her throughout the rest of the series. She even became a Akane x Yamada shipper. I thought it was adorable when she tried to have Akane bump into Yamada while eating a piece of toast.

But what about Yamada’s silent classmate, Yukari? And what of the girl from Yamada’s past that liked him? The girl from Yamada’s past is someone we’ll never see again. Yukari on the other hand…well, that’s a topic for the ending.

ENDING: Does Akane like Yamada for real? That’s a pretty big question for her as she kinda sees him in a new light after Yamada took care of her when she was sick. There is one big thing that seems to be holding her down and that’s the way things were left off between Akane and her ex. As most people do when they’re dumped, they go through a myriad of thoughts to narrow down what they did wrong. However, she still wants to tell Yamada how she feels. It’s just that the timing never seemed right with the two of them.

Meanwhile, let’s move onto Yamada’s silent classmate, Yukari. We see her a few episodes towards the end of the season. She’s on speaking terms with Yamada in class. And she recently joined the FOS guild that Akane, Eita, and Yamada are in. Her reasons for joining the video game guild were to of course get closer to Yamada. And in the second to last episode, Yukari let it slip out to Yamada that she likes him. Oooooh, right before Akane got the chance to. I sure hope the hint Eita dropped about Yamada about to get confessed to will make a dent. I think it did!

Yamada meets up with Yukari after the confession. Yukari spills everything out and admits how long she’s liked him and every reason in the world she likes him. And Yamada still rejects her! It wasn’t like those airhead replies he gave to the other girls that used to confess to him. This was genuine as he even says that there’s another. Yukari knows it’s Akane and he confirms. Called it!

The guild met up for a dinner with special food and drinks. Eita thought it’d be perfect for Akane and Yamada to have some alone time during the dinner. Things didn’t go according to plan. Yamada was late to arrive. And by the time he showed up, Akane was drunk. Déjà vu from the first episode. Yamada drags her to her home and that’s when Akane asks if he likes her. Yamada says yes. And to make sure that this is real, he promises to remind her when she sobers up that this is true.

Yamada x Akane is official!

This was a cute story despite how things started. It’s not like we haven’t seen similar things happen in other animes. Akane wasn’t even trying to become Yamada’s girlfriend after that time in front of her ex. It was just a sweet friendship that eventually blossomed into a relationship in the end. I always respect a story like that. One has to wonder if the anime will continue with a second season or if it will stay as is with the happy ending given in the 12th episode. By the looks of things, the manga is still on-going with at least 100+ chapters at the moment. I honestly think that the anime will stay with just this season. Well, if you’re looking for a cute slice of life, romcom, maybe check this out. It’s a short series.

i see many people saying they want fandoms to be like they used to, cringy and stupid, and while I do agree with that I think some are not remembering some things extremely normalized in mainstream fandoms just 7, 8 or 10 years ago.

Some of the most influential people in anime spaces, who also created content and even some organized events (with no age restrictions), were fucking perverts with a disgusting morality. Idk about other contexts, but in my case introducing yourself to anime bc you liked the cute drawings ended up becoming dangerous, with those guys teaching harmful stuff and making jokes over serious topics (usually, racism, lgbt+phobia, femicides and basically any form of paraphilia im not even exaggerating).

The far right was there, sex offenders were there, and they were so popular... I dont think people are remembering these things, and it makes me feel weird when I see those posts, or when people act like they have never seen something like that before.

I understand how annoying it is to see basically "normal" people taking fandom spaces and hating them for what they are (silly, playing with dolls basically), but can we please remember how creators would normalize sexualizing characters and scenarios? For my autistic ass it was like mandatory to accept it even if it confused me as a child (im one of those who got into anime very young, I wish I and others didn't tbh), im talking about those levels of normalized. And tbh, it didn't really matter if you were a man or not, in the demographics for girls there were extremely harmful dynamics and normalization of assault.

Like- im still working on unlearning all this shit because I literally trained myself to be attractive to those guys from a young age until very recently (less consciously in the last years, but still finding my own value in appealing to them even if they actually disgust me)! AND I DONT EVEN LIKE GUYS GAHGHGH

Of course not all creators were like that, and basically starting in social media, specifically YouTube, meant subjecting yourself to the far right but in super casual ways sometimes -like gamers. Again, idk about other contexts, but here those guys ended up being lgbt+phobic, even when they tried to appeal to LGBT+ young audiences, really racist, violent towards women, sex offenders and endorsing the far right. And none of them were that young when they started, many were 25 and now in their late 30s are still fucking disgusting and are still making content for young audiences.

Like... these thing still happen, and they are teaching young people to ignore their own ideas and feelings to follow theirs, because how could they ever be bad, how could they ever wish harm upon innocent ppl?

I hate dudebros bc of this, but also lets not forget any anime space was like that, including the "queer spaces" (honestly, just the yuri and yaoi sides; in yuri you found content for men mainly, even if it looks sfw and cute. In yaoi it was for women who couldn't see themselves represented in hetero media but still wanted to see kind hetero media, and there were many disgusting topics normalized in these spaces).

Old fandom spaces had good things, but also rotten stuff. I think we should work into creating fun fandoms in the present instead of romanticizing nostalgia.

ive been cooking these part few days and spending HOURS looking on pinterest and taking little snippets of outfits in photos i find and put them together like; "oh that jacket looks neat!" "hmm lets give her a er capelet to go with her jacket" "I FUCKING LOVE THAT VEST OH MY GOD"

so far i've got my two mc's fully drawn, corvis grimsrose and dominique felmayoir (first name (dominique) subject to change) and i'm in the process of the antagonist character who is the ruler of the court of ebonmere was inspired by a song called kiss me son of god that i found in a playlist and liked.

so far all the antagonist has design wise is hair. i stole that from sunday hsr because at one point while looking for hair inspiration all there was was sunday hsr..... it annoyed me so much i snatched his weave and gave it to my character

like for rule #4 i imagine some sort of blind merfolk character who was stuck in one of those traveling freak show circuses and one of their fellow members would tell them stories about the world since they can't see and are forever bound to live darkness and water.

for willard! i imagine a young noble man who was the youngest of three brothers and enjoyed anything to do with nature and its preservation; like going for walks, gardening, befriending forest animals, helping and nurturing them whenever they get hurt, things like that, but his father had set it up for him to take on one of the families companies; a wood chopping company that was the cause of countless deforestation due to the company never bothering to replant trees (kinda like the onceler's thneed business in the 2012 lorax movie), so he ran away from home to avoid having to be the reason that so many of his little friends lost their homes or got hurt, and ended up stumbling into the eastwood mountain area and meeting corvis, who after listening to his reasonings for being there offered to give him a 'perfect death', a death that would allow him to become a ghost in which he'd never have to worry about old age or getting hurt and could still be able to interact with the world so he could still take care of forest animals and such, with the only condition being that he would have to forsake his name, family and lineage to become the new graveskeeper of eastwood mountain.

for come little children i can imagine a kindhearted forest diety who's the guardian of eastwood mountain, protecting the forest and those who seek shelter in it. whether it's a forest animal, half human half animal of some kind, or human, as long as they bare no ill will towards the forest and its inhabitants anyone is welcome to stay. and be under their protection. i can imagine they'd be really protective over the inhabitants of the forest, especially those who weren't born there yet came to seek shelter and safety from the court of ebonmere. they definitely would hate ebonmere's ruler for causing harm to all these people too.

God, was what he even doing here? Oh, he knew why he was here - Hartman had gone on and on about how he needed proper training as a knight. To be a true, honest, real man. No he certainly did not! ...but he wasn't about to argue with Hartman about it to that extent. Unfortunately he very much did not have that in him when it came to the old man.

So here he was, just... awkwardly at a foreign knights school. In some weird ass place called Zaphias. With some weird ass commandant named Alexei. Studying to be a knight was just not going to end well for him. He felt bad for Hartman, but there was no way he was going back officially a knight in any capacity. Sure, he'd get stronger as a person, maybe learn some skills... but he wasn't going to magically transform into what his butler was hoping for.

In some way he almost wanted to do it to get a leg up on his brothers, but... what was the point? He was last in line for inheritance behind a slew of brothers. It didn't matter that he was a noble. He was just some regular kid at this point and a delinquent to boot. Did... did the people here know about all that stuff when Hartman shipped his ass over here?

Not that some of the knight hadn't already given Spada a side eye when hearing that he was the youngest noble of seven. Some of them were prooobably getting the idea. People were starting to hear about the foreign aristocratic kid who caused enough problems at his own home that he needed to be straightened out here instead. That wasn't... exactly what was going on, but it was... kind of a stretch of the truth?

But all Spada could think about right at this moment was how he'd heard about some wannabe knight in his ranks, taking the exams, going into drills and training to be a full fledged knight... in Spada's own class. Who was of the, from what he'd heard, very straight laced and upstanding sort. And frankly? Spada was bored. What better way to hurry and get kicked out and shipped back home than to be himself? So he went looking to find the supposed guy in question, of whom he'd heard a description of, and...

Wait.

Wasn't he set to do drills with that guy?

Ah, poor guy. Spada was not going to take this seriously.

"Hey! Blondie! Ain't you my partner 'till next drill?"

Flynn had dealt with a lot of insubordinate types in his short time of training. One of them mainly being Yuri but that's besides the point. But the rest of them usually had a few things in common and Flynn could only stare at the green haired boy as he narrowed his eyes and mentally checked off the list in his head. Loud mouthed? Check. Big and nasty attitude? Check. A noble? From what Flynn had heard, check. And a complete disregard for everyone around him? It was starting to seem that way, so check. 

The boy was the mere definition of a delinquent and he was genuinely surprised that the young boy had even been able to join the classes needed to ascend through the ranks. Flynn… found himself feeling a bit annoyed. He had been instructed to branch out and partner up with others for his drills. Flynn didn’t mind it but when he heard who his partner for the time being was going to be, Flynn began to have other thoughts.

His name was Spada, from what he heard, and despite his bad attitude, he wasn’t a bad sword fighter by any means. But beyond that, Flynn didn’t know much about him. He tended to not get involved in the gossip that drifted around and decided to bury his head into his studies and training instead. 

But now the day has arrived and Spada has, surprisingly, made his way over to him (and Flynn was a bit glad that he wasn’t like Yuri, whom he had to literally drag out onto the field on some days) but that small hint of relief quickly diminished into annoyance at what he was called. 

Oh, it was going to be a very long day. 

“My name is Flynn Scifo, not blondie.” His eyes narrowed at Spada for a moment. “And yes, I am. You must be Spada. You’re not originally from here, correct?” 

After taking another look at the boy in front of him, it was… becoming increasingly obvious that he was up to something. At the very least, he was very clearly not happy to be here. It’d be nice if he could run drills with someone who wanted to be there right now. But it seemed like he was usually getting stuck with difficult cases lately. Did the Captains think that he could whip them into shape? Why was that his responsibility? 

“Go on and grab a practice sword so we can go ahead and get started. I’d rather not waste time if I can help it.” Flynn instructed, already moving to grab his own.

spider-man two, thoughts (spoilers below).

this is literally just spit-balling

harry as venom isn't a plot i hate. the way insomniac likes to craft their stories primarily around the emotional baggage of established relationships that peter (and miles) has. fighting for and against your terminally ill best friend with pretty bleak execution results is far more interesting to me than fighting a character who's no more than a missable footnote in the original game. harry as venom isn't something i'm gunning for in the comics but it works for insomniac.

i'm so glad that insomniac really leaned into peter and mj's dynamic and it was nice to see her as more than just the doting girlfriend.

i mean, darin de paul is just a national treasure. in what world does the man that plays ardyn izunia play triple-j.

speaking of final fantasy xv, king regis you bitch! how dare you stab peter. i cannot believe we have two caelum's in one spider-man game.

i'm so happy they integrated hailey into the main supporting cast (also playable?!) but when did she find out about miles?

mj i get, but i feel peter moved on far too quickly from the fact he nearly killed his girlfriend. and on that note, literally just stands and watches the scream transformation. i know they're trying to keep it together considering peter's experience with the symbiote but like, i would've been pissed at harry.

rio and miles dancing at the gala was the most adorable thing. (especially as someone who grew up with a single-mum).

i actually didn't think yuri's performance could get any better, it did especially once peter has the symbiote off.

the music during the venom fight with peter at midtown is incredible.

i obviously knew he wasn't going to die but i legit cried when pete got stabbed.

i understand insomniac really want you to use the symbiote suit but peter's lower-level unlocked suits are low-key hot garbage. even as someone who doesn't mind the militarized, tech suits the choices were so mid. i didn't get the suit i really wanted until after i bet the story. i ended up using the raimi suit which i never used in the original game as i don't like that suit but it was the only normal looking suit that wasn't native to insomniac as i don't like their peter suits.

miles' were better but a lot of them seemed to blend together. his endgame suit is actually my favourite (but with the red, purple and blue ombre lining - which i'm annoyed i couldn't even use the swatch in the finale).

had quite a handful of restarts and crashes in 23hrs play-time.

kinda wish we could've seen young!mj with peter and harry.

miles telling harry that he doesn't care if he's peter's best friend, he's still going to kick his ass was great.

i feel like the plot beats for this game overall were kinda predictable in that kraven was the early game bad guy, pete gets the symbiote suit from harry, harry takes it back and becomes venom all with the end result of norman being pissed at spider-man(s) for harry's probably bad outcome. that said, i genuinely have no guesses for structure of the next one and i doubt they're going to make harry a 'villain' again.

i don't think they'll use carnage in dlc, especially when yuri said it might take "years" to track him down, but i also don't know if he'll be enough for the finale as it might - at least gameplay and conceptually - feel like a venom rehash.

this just me on a tangent so feel free to skip. based on what i said, as someone not super familiar with carnage outside of specific media, the problem i have with him in relation to venom is the same problem i have with 'the batman who laughs' it makes the former feel less threating in direct comparison (which will happen when you cut to carnage after immediately having venom as a main antagonist one game prior), especially when venom is brock rather than peter as the host, because there's internal conflict with peter (which can be argued with tbwl's to some extent). carnage, in basic terms is bat-shit venom with zero redeeming qualities and i worry that for a medium like this he will feel derivative. the joker and the venom shouldn't feel less dangerous, especially now that it feels like venom has taken on anti-hero and carnage has become what venom was. like what happened in cruella. disney tried to make cruella likable, so emma stone basically played 'disney: harley quinn' and emma thompson played cruella.

this is oddly specific but i feel laura bailey is like the only woman in gaming that goes for the scream. and i always watch these games (cyberpunk in particular) and i'm like "girl scream, let out that guttural scream because i know that's exactly what's i'd be doing in that situation because this shit is terrifying." the only other time i've properly seen it done was also by laura bailey when she played fetch.

i actually don't know if we'll get another in-between game because i feel like the "play as miles'" itch has been scratched. meaning there's no need to fill that void as until his spin-off we couldn't play as him, now we can.

but if we do, could potentially see a silk, miles team-up to take down carnage.

i booted up the first game to replay it, yeah. i still don’t like peter’s new face.

felt like there was half an act missing. could’ve done with one more agent venom mission, perhaps they can’t save vulture or electro. kinda felt like they needed a ‘he really is taking them out one by one.’

i’ve had a bit to linger on this but, there’s a bit of a disconnect between harry wanting the suit and getting it back. i think there had to be just a bit more push with peter specifically. i get he’s a nice guy but we needed to see a bit more passive aggressive harry brewing in the desperation for the symbiote.

watching a playthrough i realised venom got his name from oscorp / dr. connors as there’s a container with the name “vnm” when peter turns connors human again.

i don't want a venom spin-off and it feels like the only people who do want it is to take venom for an hour's joy-ride (until the gimmick wears off) or eddie brock stans that feel jilted by insomniac. i'd much rather get straight to the finale because i don't want to have to buy a playstation six just because some randomers want an eddie simulator first.

if harry dies, it'll be half-way through the game. i will actually kill myself tho.

i low-key want spot to be in the game or dlc but i don't think they'll do that purely because of spider-verse but you can tell a lot of insomniac grew-up on the nineties show, so it might be a possibility. (most of my knowledge for spider lore exists in that show and the various film franchises because the only spider comics i own is one 'noir' trade and a handful of 'the superior foes of spider-man'.)
