"See, wasn't that easy?" Mamiya drawls.

Natsume, who had managed to keep up the intense bedroom eyes for the entirety of the photoshoot, quickly drops the professionalism and pulls on an intensely annoyed face. "No!" he yells. "That was the worst, most excruciating, most--most horrible hour of my life! Oh, uh, because of him, not you." The last sentence is directed to the photographer, who laughs, unperturbed, and waves them off to the dressing room.

"I can't wait to see the finished pictures. You were holding that chocolate like you were about to make out with it," Mamiya snickers as they walk down the corridor. He licks the jam off his index finger. Tastes sweet.

Crap, wait, he forgot to ask for a paper towel or something. Mamiya spreads his fingers and frowns at the amount of jam on his hands. It's... kind of a lot.

He sucks on a spot of jam on his thumb, hoping that the dressing room is stocked with paper towels, wondering where the closest sink is in case it's not, when suddenly he realizes that Natsume has stopped walking. When he turns around, confused, he sees that Natsume is staring him, scrutinizing him with a look of revulsion on his face.

A lightbulb clicks.

"Something wrong?" Mamiya asks innocently, opening his mouth wide to drag his jam-covered middle finger against his tongue, and as expected, Natsume's brows twitch further down. This is too easy.

"You are disgusting," Natsume says emphatically.

"Whaaaat?" Mamiya drawls. He licks a blob of strawberry out from between the gap of his fingers, delighting when Natsume's lips twist into a sneer. "Well sor—ry I don't have anything to wipe this shit off on."

"Your pants—"

"You're saying I should wipe my hands on my pants? The pants that we're modeling for the designer? Gee, I wonder why I didn't think of that."

Natsume's face flushes. "Well— Well! Stop licking yourself! It's gross!"

"Eww, why would you say it like that? There's something wrong with your brain." Mamiya pokes his pinkie into his mouth and sucks off the last of the jam on his right hand. Then he sticks his hand in front of Natsume's face for him to see, and Natsume screams and jump away.

"All clean!" Mamiya announces, grinning.

"Get away from me!"

"And now for part two!" Mamiya says, bringing his left hand, still covered in strawberry blood, up to his mouth.

"You— Stop that!" Natsume yells. grabbing Mamiya's wrist in a vice grip.

Mamiya winces internally. Natsume is, upsettingly, stronger than he looks. "If you hate it so much, then you lick it off!" Mamiya says, forcing out a laugh.

He expects Natsume to scream again. Failing that, he expects Natsume to give him a dirty look and let go of his hand. Failing that, he expects Natsume to turn into a red, sputtering mess and run away.

But for every one hundred of Natsume's actions that Mamiya can predict, there's always one impulse decision that Mamiya could never see coming even if you gave him three thousand years.

Natsume flushes, angrily tugs Mamiya's wrist up, up, until his hand is at his lips, and then Natsume is bowing his head and licking a stripe of jam off Mamiya's finger.

... What.

Huh. Huh! What a weird thing to be happening. Maybe Mamiya's hallucinating. Or maybe this is one of Mamiya's weird fantasy dreams. Real weird thing to be dreaming about, but hey, Mamiya's had worse, more embarrassing dreams about Natsume. So. Yeah. Mamiya will wake up, covered in sweat, any second now.

... Any second now.

The drag of Natsume's wet tongue against his skin sure feels incredibly, uncannily life-like.

"Uhhh," Mamiya says.

Belatedly, he tries to pull his hand away, but Natsume's grip refuses to let him go. He keeps licking, and lapping, and sucking on the stuff on Mamiya's hand with his warm mouth, and Mamiya stares at him dumbfounded, too busy being baffled to be flustered or even turned on.

Finally, Natsume finishes, and when he gently detaches his mouth from Mamiya's hand, Mamiya is shocked by the slick amount of saliva left behind.

Mamiya's heart is going to jump out of his chest.

"... This is grosser than if I had just licked it off myself," he says faintly.

"Wh-Whatever!" Natsume says. There's a splotch of jam-colored spit at the corner of his mouth, and Natsume raises his arm to wipe it off with his sleeve, then seems to remember that the coat doesn't belong to him and puts his arm down. Mamiya wonders if he should wipe it off for him, but before he can even blink, Natsume's tongue darts out and swipes it all into his mouth.

Mamiya stares.

The magnitude of what he's done seems to suddenly crash into Natsume all at once, and his face turns as red as the Communist Manifesto. His expression looks to be somewhere between frustrated and mortified, and then Natsume is turning on his heel and stomping away. "I-I'm going to change!"

Mamiya is too shocked to figure out how to move, at first. He hears the swing of the dressing room door opening, and manages to swivel his neck in time to peer down the hallway and see the door slam shut.

And then he looks down a little further down the hallway. Squints.

... What the fuck. The restroom is literally right there.

Mermay 2023 - 2ème semaine

Jour 8 - Dystopique

Elle regardait l'immense ville de métal au loin quand il la rejoignit.

"Que fais-tu ici ?" lui demanda-t-il.

"... Je ne sais pas vraiment..."

Il soupira.

"Pourquoi alors revenir ici ? Je ne comprends pas comment tu peux admirer les Métaluriens et leur... leur... cette chose qu'ils appellent leur foyer."

"Tu te trompes... Je ne n'admire rien chez eux..."

"Alors, pourquoi ?"

Elle se tourna vers lui, montrant toute la tristesse dans ses yeux.

"J'ai pitié d'eux..."

Jour 9 - Crève-Cœur

Et voici notre premier spoiler pour Out of the Abyss !

Oui. Le triton sur la gauche est bel et bien Humphrey. Pourquoi ? Comment ? Ça par contre, cela ne sera pas révélé durant Mermay. =)

Quant au thème du jour, il se trouve que l'autre triton sur la droite, Léviathan, avait forgé un lien très fort avec Humphrey, alors que ce dernier avait cacher sa vrai nature pendant tout ce temps.

Ce dessin représente le moment où le masque tombe.

Jour 10 - Céleste

En cherchant une idée pour ce thème, j'ai appris qu'il existe une espèce de poisson rouge appeler le poisson céleste. Autant je n'était pas inspirer de faire une sirène basée dessus, autant je trouvait l'idée de poissons céleste géants volant dans le ciel très intéressant.

Et pour justifier cette idée absurde, je me suis dit que d'avoir Shichi, personnage pour mon projet de Yume Nikki Fangame, sous sa forme de sirène les accompagnant dans les cieux était parfait !

J’ajouterai probablement cette scène dans le jeu lui-même quand je travaillerai enfin à nouveau dessus.

Jour 11 - Méchant

Out of the Abyss spoiler à nouveau !

Je vous présente Charybde. Une vrai sorcière des mers.

Cette sirène-cachalot à un goût prononcé pour demander les yeux de ses victimes en guise de paiement. Il lui arrive de prendre plus que ça s'ils refusent de payer, ou juste quand elle a vraiment, vraiment très faim. Pauvres âmes en perdition.

Il n'est pas étonnant que les Slime Girls ne veulent pas être associées à quelqu'un comme elle, même si, soyons honnêtes, elles n'ont pas mieux réagi face au refus d'être payer.

Jour 12 - Compagnon

Out of the Abyss spoiler !

Voici comment Lévianthan a connu Humphrey avant ce qu'il se passe dans le dessin du jour 9.

Un jour, un triton-baleine à bosse est arrivé dans le village où Léviathan vit. Il s'est présenté sous le nom de "Cheeky". Très vite, ils apprirent à se connaître l'un l'autre, tout deux étant les seuls tritons-baleine de tout le Puit Profond.

Léviathan croyait pouvoir lui faire confiance...

Jour 13 - Old Money

C'est un style vestimentaire qui caractérise une certaine élégance et intemporalité (merci Google).

J’avais justement un personnage de triton qui aime porter des vêtements de ce style, donc ce dessin c'est fait assez naturellement.

Oh, et son nom est Bill. Croyez-le ou non, il est basé sur le chabot blob.

Jour 14 - Mama

Shichi trouve un vieux souvenir au fond de grottes sous-marines...

in my dream there was a made up yume nikki fangame called Weird Dream and it was sea creature-themed. you played as a little blob with a bit of bone sticking out of it and the jellyfish effect made you go faster. all the places you went to didn’t really share much of the blue, underwater aesthetic but it’s all implied to be underwater.

5 RPG maker recommendations for people that like Omori.

I like to think of Omori as a gateway for people to enter this weird genre of games. I'm trying to pass on the most popular ones so it's not that "cliche" and you can find something of value even if you're already a bit into this genre... (Also every single game listed is free, you have no excuse)

.flow:

We all know that Yume Nikki was a big inspiration for black space, and .flow is one of its most famous fangames. Everything is what you'll expect of a YN fangame, but there is a little twist...This game is a lot scarier, centered on nightmares. Be aware that even if pixelated this game has plenty of body horror, that's exactly its hook. (Also if you're a theory enthusiast you're going to love this. There is clearly a story being told through metaphors and oniric worlds, and it's very VERY hidden...)

Fleshchild:

Another YN fangame, this time on a sad, never-ending hiatus. in this game you're the body horror personified, as you control an alien meat blob trying to become human. As soon as you collect a brain you'll start to experience a key component of the human species: dreams. That's when the YN part of this game kicks in. Very beautiful pixel art and soundtrack, I'm just sad it'll never be finished.

The huntress of the hollow:

If you're starved after Fleshchild you still have this game, a very short turn-based RPG by the same creator. There isn't much here to compare it to Omori other than game genre... It's only 1 hour long... Also, banger battle theme.

Re: Kinder:

Kids dying the RPG maker game. As with Omori, this game touches on heavy subjects like depression and other mental illnesses, but unlike it, Re:Kinder is very heavy-handed with it, there is plenty of dark humor to complement...

This is not the prettiest of games, it uses a lot of RPG Maker premade assets, but what it lacks in visuals it has in charisma, that charisma being its main antagonist Yuichi. Not much more to say other than this game is very weird, it also has turn-based battles for the comparison checklist... (I was reminded of this game thanks to a Hazel video, go check it out, it gives a lot more info along with the how/why this game can be considered a cult classic)

End roll:

"Exploring the protagonist's guilt through dreams" this is a synopsis that can be applied to both, End roll and Omori. Other than that the story is very different, Russell is a criminal sentenced to death in a rehab program called "happy dream". I like to say he is the extra bastard edition of Sunny, if that attracts you go for it, it's a great game... (Be aware that it treats the same heavy subjects as Omori, be careful. I could even draw more comparisons, but I prefer you to find them out :) )

And that's all, I have more games if someone is interested...I can do a part 2 :) )

Mermay 2023 - 2nd Week

Day 8 - Dystopian

She looked at the immense metal city farway when he joined her.

"What are you doing here ?" he asked.

"... I don't really know..."

He sighed.

"Then why coming back here ? I do not understand how you can admire the Metalurians and their... their... that thing they call their home."

"You are wrong... I do not admire anything about them..."

"Then, why ?"

She turned towards him, showing all the sadness in her eyes.

"I pity them..."

Day 9 - Heartbreak

And here is out first spoiler for Out of the Abyss !

Yes. The merman on the left is indeed Humphrey. Why ? How ? That, however, will not be answered during Mermay. =)

As for the prompt of the day, it happens that the other merman on the right, Leviathan, had formed a strong bound with Humphrey, when the latter had hidden his true nature all this time.

This drawing representes the very moment where the mask falls off.

Day 10 - Celestial

As I searched an idea for the prompt, I learned that there exists a species of goldfish called the celestial. As much as I wasn't inpired to make a merfolk based on them, I however found the idea of giant celestial fishes flying in the sky interesting.

And to justify this absurd idea, I thought having Shichi, character of my Yume Nikki Fangame project, accompanying them in the skies with her mermaid effect was perfect !

I'll probably add that scene in the game itself whenever I finally work on it again.

Day 11 - Villain

Out of the Abyss spoiler once more !

I present to you Charybdis. A real sea witch.

This sperm whale mermaid has a pronounced taste for demanding the eyes of her victims as payment. She sometimes take more than that if they refuse to pay, or just if she's really, really hungry. Poor unfortunate souls.

It isn't surprising that the Slime Girls do not want to be associated with the likes of her, even if, let's be honest, they did not react any better when they were denied payment.

Day 12 - Companion

Out of the Abyss spoiler !

Here is how Leviathan met Humphrey before the events of the drawing of day 9.

One day, a humpback whale merman arrived in the village where Leviathan lives. He said his name was "Cheeky". Both quickly learned to know eachother, as they were the only whale merman of all Deep Well.

Leviathan thought he could trust him...

Day 13 - Old Money

It's a fashion style characterised by elegance and timelessness (thanks Google).

I just so happened to have a merman character who likes to wear this kind of clothing, so this drawing happened naturally.

Oh, and his name is Bill. Believe it or not, he's based on the blob sculpin.

Day 14 - Mama

Shichi finds an old memory deep into underwater caves...
