Monster Review : Pirori and Uboa from Yume Nikki

The Pirori appears in the Barracks Settlement a very desolate looking ghost town, the NPC's themselves are humanoid figures with a single hole for a face , they don't interact with the player and are like sorrowful spirits. Uboa is a very disturbing character he appears as an easter egg, the room you're in goes dark , there's eyes and faces everywhere and there's a horrific soundtrack playing. Uboa is a giant face emerging from the floor almost like a ghost, its body looks like either hair or just a shadow meanwhile its face is a white broken smiley face , I like to imagine its face is made from porcelain. If you get close to Uboa you are sent to an alternate diemension presumably where it lives.

Over All , Dreams Can Be Creepy And These Creatures Are Exactly That.

Yume Nikki Dream Diary appreciation post

Yume Nikki Dream Diary while flawed and unable to reach what its predecessor could, is still a great game to me. Yes I have played and finished the original Yume Nikki. But I still do really enjoy Dream Diary despite its flaws. I actually really enjoyed the puzzles and it was fun going around and collecting concept art and other items. I loved how Madotsuki's apartment is given some more personality to it like stuff scattered about. Oh and an actual bathroom and maybe kitchen from the looks of it.

Speaking of. I love this games visuals. In a darker lighting they make Madotsuki's dreams just as depressing as you'd expect if you've played the original. The games style really makes it seem like Madotsuki is a real person who struggles. The visuals are just positively reeking of melancholy, loneliness, fear, uncannyness, and exhaustion. It really makes this game look like art in a way that makes it worthy of the Yume Nikki title to me.

One of my favorite locations is the wilderness and whats connected to it via the subway car. Pirori village and the inside of the subway car itself are locations that I'll turn on the game again just to be there and listen to that areas music or just to look at. I also really love everything sprouting from the endless wilderness. Honestly I love the wilderness area in both this and the original simply because its basically just dessert nature. Nothing special but the vines and stone around and the village just make it feel real.

Also the soundtrack causes similar feelings and its also oddly comforting. I love the audio in this game. It feels like your in a dream but also a flashback. It's great.

I also enjoyed the gameplay and running around as Madotsuki felt nice and the effects are very fun to use especially when it comes to puzzles. Though I will admit this game is hard to get through sometimes without a guide and I do wish some things were left more ambiguous as some of the things that happen cause more questions then answers.

Overall I love this game and I wish the fandom would recognize it more. Also check out this cool vid by Hotrod Mcoolgal on youtube

Wow, yearly update on this blog ! o/

It’s already more than one year old... seeing it again after all this time, I still like it so I’m glad C’:

The main reason I decided to illustrate this location of the game was because of :

I reaaaally wanted to draw these things ?! And use those purple tones... Then I also remembered this place

and the sky’s colors... perfect to use with the previous purple o///

It’s not necessarily my fav’ place of the game (if you’ve been following this tumblr for a long time, you probably know which location has a special place in my heart... :D ), but I do think it’s one of the most interestings.

Now, about the zine: I often open it, flip through the pages, admire all the art, and end up feeling all emotional about mine being there too. It’s a really nice book, the colors were nice, the goodies so cool !!! I should take some photos and post them here... :’D

YN is like “that game that came up at the perfect moment in your life” and even if I don’t draw fanart of it as much as before, it still pops up frequently in my head. I’m glad it exists, and it was nice to be a little part of its fandom, they were so many talented persons, and amazing projects, and different interpretations of Madotsuki, and all those theories, ...
