Zexal Month Day 21- The Devil
@zexalmonth
Time to someone who had every right to be evil and destructive BE evil and destructive :D
This prompt made me think of an au I made in my head ages ago when watching yugioh 5Ds
Meet the son of the ceo of Astral Corporations, Adrien Sangrave, who duels under the alias named after the family business: Astral.
Tumblr media
Yuma's eyes widened when he saw his opponent walk into the arena. This guy... His mind flashbacked to that alley, the day the WDC had begun. The bodies of hurt, broken duelists. Heart pieces not just scattered, but shattered. The figure of somebody in a flowing cloak and hood perched up on that wall. The already completed Heart glistening in his hand.
That cold, piercing look in those mismatched eyes.
Those mismatched eyes that were glaring at him now
------
Yuma Tsukumo.... how annoying!
What did that child know about him?
On that first duel, he wouldn't stop talking. Talking about friendship and dueling and fun.
So annoying!
Astral's eyes hardened, his fist clenching. It was time for their second duel, after he had beaten Yuma in the earliest round. It was annoying how that boy had lost to him yet still manage to qualify simply through blind luck. Luck!
Yuma and his constant talking. About what dueling meant.
He wanted to talk about what dueling meant?
Fine! He will show him what dueling meant.
Especially when dueling a monster.
As you can see, in this au Yuma and Astral cross paths due to the WDC, and end up dueling each other quite a few times. Astral's backstory is partially based off of Akiza- he's a pscycic duelist whose cards and monsters become real with his duels, and he duels wanting to hurt others because he's been hurt. Unlike Akiza, however, rather than running away or being pushed away for his power, his uncle Elias forced him to train his powers and want to use his powers to gain more power after the disappearance of Astral's father Dominic two weeks after Astral's powers first manifested, leaving Astral, his big brother Damien, and their mother Ena at the mercy of their uncle Elias! And instead of fulfilling Dominic's unkept promise to help Astral learn how to control his power and live a normal life, Elias forced him to make his powers stronger, even at the cost of his health.
Essentially, he's a bitter child soldier, and when he duels he duels with anger, intending to cause pain to others the way he feels pain. Especially to that annoying naive Yuma! How could that child possibly understand his pain? Even if both of them have lost their fathers... Not that Yuma would understand Astral's pain anyway!
Also if you're wondering about the Black Witch thing, that part of Akiza is given to Astral's brother Damien, who ran away from home to escape Elias's nightmare training and insults, and became part of a gang of psychic duelists under the name 'Black Mist', and Astral hasn't seen him in years.
Of course with the WDC, who knows who you'll meet....

28th- Death upright | Endings, change, transformation, transition How’s the future for Zexal characters? Show us what you think a Zexal character (or several) are doing post-series or how they look when they grow up?
I believe most of them are still living in Heartland (but still travel elsewhere etc) and I thought of some cool careers and things they could be doing:
Yuma - pro duelist this was a given considering it was his dream, only fair to make it come true when he's grown up
Astral - warrior/protector, interdimensional researcher his role in Astral-Barian World remains the same. After the worlds were forcibly fused together, there need to be someone to keep all that Chaos in check so that the Astralians don't disappear. He also helps with pooling interdimensional knowledge since he, himself, is not human and lives in somewhere other than Earth
Kotori - kindergarten teacher I think she would make a good teacher and her likeable and caring personality would be popular among little kids and their moms
Ryoga - marine biologist and/or interdimensional researcher Shark was never extremely passionate about dueling and I believe all that drama throughout the series would definitely drive him away from dueling professionally again, I do see him as a scientist though. As Astral, he has experience first hand with being non-human (formerly)
Kaito - engineer, interdimensional researcher already things he was from the start of the series, so no massive changes except for his age and being more experienced (eventually taking over his father's laboratory)
Rio - pro duelist, model, actor, athlete she showed how much she is capable of so it's only natural that she would hone those skills and have an active life doing several different things. She preferred modeling for environmental causes, acting in stage/theater and competing in winter sports
Tetsuo - pro skater, model, maybe also pro duelist I think it would be so much fun if Tetsuo started skating professionally and I can totally see him rocking urban/alternative apparel and making a lot of money/fame as a model
Tokunosuke - "entrepreneur" he's still swindling people, just a little bit smarter about it
Cathy - pet groomer of course she will work with animals, what did you think?
Takashi - paralegal don't see him as a lawyer but I do see him working in justice. That was pretty much a given, considering his personality
Anna - pro duelist and stunt performer it would be freaking hilarious to see her as a stuntperson so, why not?
Haruto - interdimensional research assistent by choice, Haruto doesn't get involved directly in his family's research, so he takes on a organizational and administrative role more
III - historian, researcher, writer I like to think that III had a very important role in the ongoing discovery of all interdimensional things due to his profound knowledge of the past and how it influences today. He never sought fame but it comes to him anyway with all his published papers
IV - pro duelist, model all that interdimensional stuff? He's not interested in the slightest. IV duels his way to the top of the top and, as usual, he's very smug about it. He can be, he's that good
Durbe - professor (perhaps a specialist in linguistics) I can't see Durbe as anything else than an academic, he just has that vibe going on for him
Vector - ??? who even know about Vector. He's rich, somehow. He comes and goes as he pleases and when people ask he says something like "don't worry about it ;-)"
Alito - bartender, dancer I'd love to see Alito excelling in all kinds of dances, receiving accolades because of just how skilled he is, and working in the local nightlife seems like it would suit him
Gilag - bodybuilder, strongman yeah, that's about it. He's got the muscles for it, he should use them
Mizael - interdimensional researcher it was surprisingly tricky to figure him out? And I feel like he takes on a more mixed role, not too hands-on and not too detached either. He's mainly helping the Tenjos with in-field research
most of the other characters I didn't mention here are most likely following the same path as the show.. Fuya is still an actor; Faker, Byron/Tron and V are scientists and interdimensional researchers; Droite is a manager and Gauche is a pro duelist/wrestler
in most my headcanons, everyone was resurrected by the Numeron Code including Don Thousand. I'm unsure of his role but he would stand together with Eliphas in Astral-Barian World, their roles as the most powerful beings (akin to gods) would be to maintain the harmony. Ena would be more of a messenger and mediator. As Vector, Number 96 would be mysterious, but he mostly stays in that world, challenging Astral to duels here and then

Favorite Programs of 2023/2024 - Women's SP
I'm debating calling it a good year. There's actually a lot of programs on that list but would i call them masterpieces ? Not really, at least not all of them. While all these programs are good they're not groundbreaking. I feel like most of the field spent the season honing in their particular brand, or aesthetic, not doing that much of exploring with some exceptions.
Honorable mentions
Clare Seo (Simple Gifts) - NOT a Quaker song, thank you very much but a Shaker song (it's another Christian sect tho). I like it very much. I like the music, and Clare has gorgeous posture and musicality. It's very much Americana but I found it fresh.
Mao Shimada (Americano) - costume is the cutest thing. It's chock full of delightful moments and transitions. Looses points because the step sequence has imho too much of two-foot skating and stop-and-pause moments, but that's a recurring problem with Kaitlyn Weaver's choreo.
Seoyeong Wi (Pride and Prejudice) - perfect packaging for a young debuting skater and I'm surprised it's not picked more often.
Rino Matsuike (One Day I'll Fly Away) - One day Rino will choose music that is not a warhorse. Meanwhile I'll enjoy arguably the best skating skills of the field.
9th - Yu-Feng Tsai - Copycat, by Billie Eilish, choreo by Jun-Fei Ren
Arguably the best choreo in the junior field. Fun. Sassy. Unlike anything else seen this season. Okay, yes it was Billie Eilish but it was a song that's not usually picked, it was fresh and it was good.
8th - Niina Petrokina - Run, by Marvin Brooks, choreo by Mark Pillay
I liked her previous SP better, and I'm not that fond of the music but Niina wins this by sheer commitment to the performance. One of the skaters where the whole body is involved, especially during the step sequence. That's what the GOE bullets are supposed to reward.
7th - Young You - Otono Porteno, by Astor Piazzolla, choreo by Tom Dickson.
The attitude, the sass, the steps, THAT SPLIT JUMP. She did the right thing bringing it back.
6th - Haein Lee - Seirenes, by Christopher Tin, choreo by Lori Nichols and Carolina Kostner
First rule we should live by after this season : whenever Carolina and Lori are involved, they strike gold. Happened to Yuma, happened to Haein. Seirenes is eerie, moody and a very good vehicle for Haein. She had us worried for a moment but did the right thing bringing it back.
5th - Jia Shin - Fascination, by Fermo Marchetti, choreo by David Wilson
I never really got Jia until this season. This is I think her first program that made me go : "okay. I see now why other fans are obsessed with her skating. I get it". If you asked me, I would stop giving Jia twee instrumental pieces and moody ballads and give her waltzes, more classical pieces. Jia has the musicality to keep up those kinds of tempi. She has the lines to express that kind of music. She has the flow to match the rythm. The transitions in and out of her 2A ? Stuff dreams are made of.
With Fascination, I love the music, I love Jia in it, I love watching her hitting those notes, I love her inside edge Ina Bauer during her step sequence... I'm a new fan.
4th - Hana Yoshida - Koo Koo Fun, by Lazer Disk, choreo by Kaitlyn Weaver
I'm fascinated with the way Hana picks her programs because her choices are immaculate. For two seasons straight, down to her gala programs, Hana has picked bangers after bangers. Koo Koo Fun is outside the box, funny, stands out musically, the choreo is quirky...
Doesn't make it straight to the top because every time she skated to it, I found Hana a little bit too stiff for the vibe the program requires. She needs to skate with more abandon and fun and that will only come with experience. Her mind is already there, her body needs to follow.
3rd - Yelim Kim - Ladies in Lavender, by Nigel Hess, choreo by Jeffrey Buttle
I don't remember who on this website said that Yelim's skating makes them believe in a better world, but I do agree. There's something healing in her skating. Right now there's no skater in the field that can match the elegance and quiet dignity of Yelim's skating.
2nd - Loena Hendrickx - I'm Ninalu, by Mors Avraham, choreo by Adam Solya
Loena at her very best and when she's on she pisses everywhere on the stage. I honestly don't get the complaints about doing too much party programs. As long as she serves it as hard as she does, she can take us to the club anytime she wants. I don't care about versatility if a skater has found a niche they do extremely well.
1st - Kaori Sakamoto - Baby God Bless You, by Shinya Kyozuka, choreo by Jeffrey Buttle
Forget what i just said. Kaori wins it but virtue of trying and succeeding in bringing in a new style. The concept is cute. Skating to the string version is the superior choice, as the music is more climatic than with the piano version. And the step sequence shows how above the field Kaori is right now.

Ok so heads up i'm gonna be slightly changing up how i'm doing my media thread stuff, mainly i'm gonna be tagging stuff for the year i did it in for any games i did in 2023 or later with #beeb's 2023 media stuff and incrementing that up as the years go on. Then anything being ported over from my twitter thread from before 2023 will be ported with the #beeb's 2021 media stuff and #beeb's 2022 media stuff respectively.
Anyways so here's the first entirely new entry and not a port from my twitter media thead, master detective archives raincode. Kodaka the danganronpa guy's most recent game, raincode is another mystery series (big shocker) from the man himself and it follows the story of an amnesiac detective named yuma kokohead and his spectral companion shinigami solving mysteries together. So ultimately at its core raincode kinda gives off danganronpa like vibes considering the iconic danganronpa art style and the gameplay in the mystery labyrinths in some cases basically being reskinned danganronpa trilogy trial minigames like the final thing is literally just the closing argument stuff from danganronpa, and the reasoning deathmatches are very trial adjacent but regardless they're still pretty fun, even if they're honestly pretty easy imo considering yuma's titanic health pool and them giving not so subtle jabs towards the right answer if you try and slash through the wrong statement or use the wrong key so odds are you're probably not gonna have too much trouble with the mystery labyrinths unless you're like me and you're fucking terrible at hangman style things such as the shinigami puzzles, which were the only things i game overed to the entire time i was playing the game.
The characters in raincode can vary wildly in quality, from bangers in my humble opinion like yakou, halara, fubuki, and vivia to abominations against all that is good like desuhiko and especially shinigami, like i fucking HATE shinigami. Shinigami is extremely annoying, she never shuts up and isn't really funny at all like basically any time she's talking i'd rather she just shuts the fuck up, or at least that's how i was at the start of the game, over the course of the game i think i ended up getting stockholm syndromed intro tolerating both of them but like even if i've grown numb to their bullshit they're still annoying as fuck. Otherwise most of the other characters are mostly pretty ok. Although in another parallel to danganronpa fubuki feels very similar to sonia nevermind from danganronpa 2 except probably even dumber.
Raincode's mysteries are overally really really nice, certain annoying characters withstanding. Like even with all the weird shit that kodaka does i at least gotta hand it to him, he knows how to write a good mystery. Uh i suppose if i were to give raincode a chapter ranking i'd say they're in this order, top being best bottom being worst 4 5 (Honestly 4 and 5 are really close i could probably swap them around depending on my mood) 0 1 Gap 2 (Desuhiko and Shinigami are to blame for fucking over chapter 2, i actually really like the mystery this chapter if it weren't for them being fucking awful i'd rate this higher) 3 (3's probably the only one where the mystery kind of felt like it fell apart for me, the mystery labyrinth is also plagued by having fubuki and shinigami constantly fucking fighting) So my final thoughts on if you should play raincode or not are a resounding... Maybe - It's a kodaka game i've gotta give it that maybe just like all the danganronpa games. Honestly i don't think i regret playing raincode and i overall had a lot of fun with it, just like be mindful of all the kodaka classics and hopefully you'll have fun with the game
