Drama Review: The End of the World with You (Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu)

The world is thrown into chaos when the public learns that in just ten days’ time, a massive meteorite will hit the Earth, likely wiping out the entire human race. This horrific news has sent a young man working in a dead-end office job named Masumi Nishina into shock. But he soon makes peace with his destiny and decides to return to his college library, where he intends to read books in a tranquil setting while he waits for the end to come.

But this decision proves to be a major mistake – as it is here he is reunited with the man who ruthlessly broke his heart: Ritsu Kusakabe. Back in college, they were both in the same publishing club but parted ways bitterly. Masumi Nishina had hoped he would never have to set eyes upon Ritsu Kusakabe again, so cruel was the latter’s rejection, while Ritsu Kusakabe went on to become an IT hotshot. But with the clock ticking and just days remaining until the world comes to an end, they start to wonder if they should perhaps reignite their romance…and fill the remainder of their lives with passion.

What? Why? How?

How do I even begin the review for this drama? I did not find myself hating it but at the same time, I have so many complains.

First things first, this was way too slow paced for my liking. I rarely do well with slow paced shows and this is no exception. Baffling, I know, since The End of the World with You only had eight short episodes. I enjoyed the plot but goodness gracious, it was moving at a pace too slow for me. There were many times I considered not finishing this drama just because of how slow it was. Yet, oddly enough, I cannot imagine this drama with a faster pace. The pacing was right for this drama, just not right for me.

The other thing I did not quite like about The End of the World with You was Yuma's character arc. Coincidence, luck or just plain old supernatural shit, I still did not like it. I am not a morbid person but I actually enjoyed the idea of the world ending in this drama. You see, I am that person who believes Masumi and Ritsu will not last now that the world is not ending but I want them to be together till the end. Since Yuma stopped the world from ending, and because of what I believe in our main leads' relationship, there is no together till the end. Please don't fight me on this, I am too lazy to retaliate (or explain why) nor will I change my beliefs.

Also seriously, is there a deeper meaning to the idea of the world ending and then not ending?

On the bright side, there is something I truly loved in this drama and that is Ritsu's character. I loved that he does not sugarcoat the fact that he is the humanisation of a red flag. He made it obvious that he is vulnerable, he has issues and he does in fact having feelings for Masumi that he never had for other people. But he also made it clear that he has problems being a nice person when it comes to intimate relationships. He is a kindhearted jerk and he does not hide that.

Well, I am very sure I do not hate The End of the World with You and this drama still confuses me when I think about it. But, this is not a bad drama and unless you have bigger issues with slow-paced dramas than me, watching it would be fine.

This is mostly the experimental/chaotic group since this trio, you will never know what will come up with. But I do want to see Byakuya interact with Azusa and Kanato one on one(Such as Byakuya helping Azusa polish and clean his knife collection and talk about life)(For Kanato, I feel like Byakuya will play with Kanato's toys especially the dolls and just go crazy on how pretty they are especially their eyes(Byakuya has a fetish on eyeballs)). I know 100% Kanato and Byakuya gonna make some very loud tantrums(Kaji Yuki and Yuya Hirose screaming the hell out of their voice, let see who is the loudest😅)

This is more like a "I want to see what happens.." group, Our 2 center boys. In the "Happy School Festive" drama cd, Toxin saw a red headed vampire and went crazy(same with Byakuya and Creha) I am wondering if that red headed vampire was Ayato and if it is I am wondering what happens if Toxin and Ayato in a room one on one.

This one, I was thinking about how would Kou would say to the Erosion boys since they are a rock band and he is an idol. Both music are in a music path but completely different music type. I can see Byakuya just explaining his own language of being in a rock band(probably use Pien like so many times🥺) , Toxin reexplaining Byakuya's explanation so Kou can understand(Maybe also show Kou what a Rock band feels like and do some vocal training). I put Subaru in this group because I can see Kou just drag him into this and later I can see him just practicing/listening secretly some of the Erosion boys songs(I can also see Subaru try to copy Toxin's hard medal rock scream)(Chiba Sho screams are Loud as af when it comes to him with Toxin so I am curious if Takashi Kondo can do a medal rock scream).

Relatively recently (and by complete accident) while re-watching Diabolik Lovers with a friend, it turned out that she noticed a detail that I hadn't noticed before.

What's going on? The VA of Noriaki Kakyoin (her favorite character from "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure") is also the voice actor of Laito Sakamaki (the above-mentioned "Diabolik Lovers"), Daisuke Hikarawa.

On this occasion, I couldn't resist making a little drawing. They are both redheads, but extremely different from each other.

PS: It also turns out that Yuma Mukami and Prosciutto share the same VA, Tsatsuhisa Suzuki. It's the same with Koichi Hirose and Kanato (Yūki Kaji).

I don't think I'll ever look at these two series the same way again

I’ve been so happy that I can finally access this event again after these months since the app’s 2nd anniversary! (You know, since I paid for hearts for this event when it originally came out.) volume 1 of the “I Love You” event contains a bunch of mini stories with very few pics for the guys, but a whole wallpaper for the ones included in the volume if you collect them all. It came back on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 for me, I believe.

MOVIE REVIEW | Chihayafuru: Musubi

The review is based only on the events of the film. I feel the responsibility to point this out because the manga is on going, which means the story might take a turn to any possible direction in the future.

I finally got the chance to watch this film this week, a very nice and neat conclusion to the world of competitive karuta. For those who need a little reminding, the story follows Chihaya and her friends as a team trying to win the national high school competition and, for some of them, even dream of becoming professionals. But the films also tells us about their personal struggles, sometimes on actual lines of dialogue and, other times, through out the poems been read in the karuta competitions.

The film choose to make a time jump between the second film and the third, putting the last installment of the trilogy on Chihaya’s senior year of high school. She’s only have one goal in her life: becoming the Queen of karuta but now teachers and even friends are taking different routes in life, choosing professions and paths in which they won’t be able to talk together as the tight-knit group they become, so she needs to start thinking what else lays beyond karuta.

On this point, I feel the story failed and achieved something at the same time. It was nice to see Chihaya think of things beyond her karuta bubble with the film didn’t developed properly. I like she kept her goal of becoming Queen until the very end, because at her core that’s who she truly is, but at the same time I didn’t get to see her spend enough time thinking of life outside the sport.

Other professional karuta players are shown to have their own personal and professional lives outside the competitions, so I guess I would have like to see Chihaya be a little more motivated or explicit on what other thing she might want to pursue. Whatever it tis, I’m sure it would have been with the same savage passion she has for everything she loves.

Meanwhile, Taichi finally reached a boiling point. I guess it’s fair to say Taichi has been competing his entire life: against Arata but most importantly against his own insecurities. Taichi’s biggest roadblock has always been himself, by putting others before him to a point of whatever he wants becomes irrelevant in his own life. When he first started playing karuta again, in freshman year of high school, he didn’t do it for himself. He did it for Chihaya, and unlike her his development about what he wishes to do in the future beyond the world of competitive karuta was properly developed.

Taichi finally loses to the pressure and feels forced to leave the karuta team. It’s a nice call back as to the same reasons why Arata quitted karuta in the first film. Back then, Arata lost all motivation when his grandfather had died. He was the reason why Arata started and continue to play the game and with him home he needed two films to find a reason to do it for himself.

The same thing can be said about Chihayara. She’s always played for her, a point the film makes perfectly, and because of that she’s able to support her teammates, show respect to her opponents and inspire her juniors.

If you ask me, the third film in this trilogy is Taichi’s film. It’s the conclusion to his journey and the answer his been looking for since day one. The card choice at the end, where he’s putting all his feelings out in the open, is him finally stepping forward and withholding nothing.

As for the love triangle, I would rather concentrate on the personal story of our three main characters. I believe this story is so popular because of the everyday and common struggles the characters go through that resonate with people, and not because of a love triangle.

Chihaya’s answer remained true to herself, as mentioned before, because she’s never really thought of anything beyond the karuta world. Of course, Arata put himself out there, in all the ways possible, because Arata never doubts himself once he has set his eyes on the prize. And, of course Taichi is the last man standing next to Chihaya because that’s also part of who he is.

That said, of course, I have a team I’m rooting for and personally I believe the story told in this film serve for the benefit of one team rather the other. But to get a real and final answer about Chihaya’s feelings, we will have to keep on reading the manga.

Kudos, to the amazing supporting cast who it’s as wonderful as always. Making the smallest moments incredibly funny and heart warming, even sometimes stealing the entire show from the leads. Thank you!

Water Polo-themed Original TV Anime RE-MAIN Announces July 3, 2021 Premiere

    Along with a new key visual featuring the seven members of Yamanami High's water polo club, the official website for the forthcoming original TV anime RE-MAIN has announced that it is set to premiere on TV Asahi network's "NUMAnimation" programming block on July 3, 2021.

      Masafumi Nishida, best known as the series composition writer for the TV anime Tiger & Bunny, serves as the original story writer, general director, series composition writer, screenplay writer for all episodes, and sound director. Kiyoshi Matsuda (Kumamiko) is attached to direct, MAPPA (Yuri!!! on ICE) works on production.

  The protagonist is Minato Kiyomizu, who quit playing water polo in the winter of his third year of junior high school after an incident.
