A Review: Fox-Colored Jealousy
Tumblr media
Author: Machi Suehiro Illustrator: Machi Suehiro Publishers: Yen Press Age Group: Mature Genre: LGBTQ+, BL, Romance Type: Manga
Content Warnings: Explicit Sexual Content
Spoilers ahead
Plot
What could be worse than getting a random boner? Having fox ears and tail pop out whenever you get flustered.
Akiha Konno is a cute guy possessed with a fox spirit that he can’t control. So sometimes he sprouts canine ears and a tail against his will, which is exactly what happened when he meets Yukuri Takahashi, the cute nice guy who saves him from a pervert groping him on the train. That’s right….a boy being groped. It’s not Akiha’s fault he’s as adorable as a demur girl.
Since that day, the fox spirit wants nothing more than to take control because it likes Yukuri, too. Yukuri in turn likes Akiha—ears and tail included. Could Yukuri be just the person to fix his random transformation problems and help Akiha keep his fox in check?
Character Development
I must say it’s refreshing to see two personalities where you can’t tell who’s the uke and seme (dom and sub) from the get-go. The reason for this is because we have some great duality in both Akiha and Yukuri’s personalities (albiet Akiha’s is the fox, but still).
Akiha is introverted in the extreme due to his possession. He just wants a normal life and moves in with very distant relatives, who are a lineage of priests, while he tries the normal college life. He’s very shy and perhaps even ashamed he has feelings for Yukuri. He doesn’t want to cause any problems. Unfortunately, this mindset makes him a great target for creeps. On the flip side we have the fox spirit, which is blunt, knows exactly what it wants, and goes for it. This includes telling Yukuri how Akiha feels since Akiha doesn’t seem to want to say it, and the fox wants Yukuri and Akiha to get together.
Yukuri is very forward but he’s also too nice for his own good. This kindness he extends to everyone has been a problem in the past. So obviously, Akiha is going to question as well since Yukuri watches over him like a mother hen. This creates a lot of emotional tension and growth for both characters.
World-building
The world-building is set in a contemporary setting but with people that are possessed with animal spirits. Akiha is not the only one we know of in the book. What happens when a wolf becomes interested in our timid fox? This part creates further world-building because it tells us that those that have control over their animal spirit can tell other animal possessed from the common populace. That’s a scary thought when we know Akiha tries to hide his ears and tail.
We also know that people with great spiritual power attract animals. This is another reason the fox spirit likes Yukuri. It’s like the fox can’t help it.
I really like that the reader knows when the change between Akiha’s spirit and the fox taking over happens. His eyes change. What’s even better is that Yukuri also figures it out so it’s part of the world that can be interacted with for the characters, not just something thrown in for the reader to notice. This is important information because it shows a reason for all the panels showing the change in Akiha’s eyes. It’s not for our benefit alone.
Themes
It’s okay to pursue your dreams even if it means asking for help.
Observations & Predictions
I hope we get to see more of Akiha and Yukuri’s relationship as this is the beginning of a very sweet romance that can become spicy very fast. Not only that, but adding in a search to rid Akiha of the fox spirit could be an interesting storyline to pursue.
I am sad that throughout the entire book we are only teased here and there with a good time. We don’t get any real smutty payoff until the very end. Even then, while it’s a sweet ending it just leaves us craving for more.
In my opinion, this makes the plot a lot thinner. The main problem is solved early on. The focus switches to this emotional turmoil throughout the rest of the book without anything concrete to hold the world around the characters together.
If you want something light and quick to read, this BL is great. If you want something a bit deeper and spicier, best look elsewhere.
Did I enjoy this? Yes, as a cute distraction, it does its job. I’d want more volumes and more smut. I want to love Yukuri and Akiha deeply but a one-off doesn’t do that. More volumes would be needed.
Recommendations
Unfortunately, there aren’t planned future volumes of Akiha and Yukuri. The author does have another book in the same universe. Remember the wolf? That’s right! He’s got his own BL.

So idk if anyone who draws/writes fnaf fanfics will ever see this but I need this in my life somehow, anyways here’s my idea
Gregory shows back up at the repaired pizzaplex after being homeless for 2 weeks(or more) and is both malnourished and sleep deprived, Freddy freaks out and tries to take care of him himself while filling a father role for Gregory and hiding him from the others and succeeds for a week till Gregory suddenly gets very ill.
Now before saying anything else for that let’s get to the other animatronics they all have been repaired and have only fractured memories of the whole thing(for how they felt during the event would be described as completely aware but somehow compelled to do what they were doing with no feeling of it being unusual for them to think/act that way) they’ll all take it in slightly different ways
The daycare attendant(using that to refer to both sides) since they would only need their code repaired(maybe more depending on the ending they decide to go from) is partially wiped to get rid of the virus and since sun just needed a few adjustments they remember the whole thing leading to moon being internally scared every time he interacts with kids that he might hurt them like he almost did with Gregory, I see them as the first to become aware of Gregory being back due to Freddy having Gregory get in his chest cavity and rushing to them at night since they have more medical knowledge and experience with kids due to their role, they’d eventually become the crazy uncle with the other being the chill uncle
Chica will have most her memory’s intact due most of her head/body repairs being either separate modules from her essentials so just a full virus check was needed and a replacement jaw, shell and joints, onto her trauma from it: she doesn’t fully remember being crushed she does remember trying to talk and the inability to feel if her jaw was connected(I feel like while they probably can’t feel pain specifically, they probably have the ability to “feel” pressure to ensure they don’t hurt a kid while interacting with them) so she doesn’t talk as much, when she eventually learns of Gregory she’ll probably be that one aunt that’ll ensure that he gets some healthier food because we all know that till that happens he’ll probably been living off of left over pizza and she’d probably go off on Freddy for a bit about how he’s still growing and needs more nutrients
Roxanne wolf would probably have her self worth issues and such(this will come into the story in a sec) she probably has the least recovered memories from that time(I mean she was hit full force by a speeding cart) but she definitely remembers the blackness of being blind and while she doesn’t remember what happened specifically she probably remembers the “pain” of so many components being ripped/broken at once, I can’t think of what she’d contribute to the story but I do know how she could end up meeting Gregory: she might go to Freddy to try to talk to him about her problems(either remembering the incident and before or for her self worth issues) and ends up walking into Freddy and Gregory(and whoever else has met Gregory by then)
So what do ya think? (Also in case anyone sees this and also see this on a different account by the name Yukurie that is also my account I just wanted to make a new blog cause I think imma make more of these and have this be the one for that and have the other be a all rounder for reblogs)

How To Self-Study Japanese
Tumblr media
Learning Japanese is no easy feat. It requires dedication and hard work, especially if you have decided to self-study. If you are absolutely brand new to Japanese, here are some fast facts about the language to get you started:
* Contains two alphabets: Hiragana and Katakana
* Each alphabet has 46 phonetic characters (72 in total)
* Kanji is a Chinese based script that has thousands of characters
* You’ll need to know about 2000-3000 characters to be considered fluent inn Japanese writing (according to the JLPT)
* Japanese is an SOV language (Subject - Object - Verb)
* There are no tones in Japanese, but there are intonations (yukuri vs yukkuri)
* There are 4 politeness levels
* Japanese uses verb conjugations like European languages
* Japanese uses particles to mark parts of speech (example: は  and が )
* Often times the subject is omitted in sentences if the subject is clear based on the context
*Pronunciation in Japanese is perhaps the easiest part of learning the language
* It typically takes 5-6 years to gain fluency in Japanese
So now that you have the absolute basics of the language, here is the best way, I have found after 7 years of language study, to learn Japanese.
1. Begin Learning Hiragana and Katakana (in that order)
First thing you want to do is begin learning Hiragana. It’s the most basic script you can learn and is learned by children first in grade school. Katakana is for foreign words like English cognates. I used Kodansha’s Hiragana workbook and I highly recommend it. After you’ve grasped Hiragana, you can begin learning Katakana. Fortunately, they follow the same phonetic order making memorization just a tad easier (example: Ka, ki, ku, ke, ko). As you learn the writing, begin to remove your dependence on the English alphabet and begin writing everything in Hiragana or Katakana. I used Kodansha’s Katana Workbook as well and I recommend that book as well.
 2. Begin Learning Easy Phrases and Words Through Children Songs
Whenever I begin learning a new language, I try to get a feel for the basic vocabulary by memorizing children’s songs. It’s a great way to create a visual and auditory connection with the new words. I know it’s a little childish, but it was very effective for me! I have never forgotten a single word from those songs and they helped me cement the essentials and that is very very important. The songs are usually in Hiragana and Katakana, so that’s good practice for remembering the those alphabets too! Here’s a Genki Japan playlist with songs for the weather, numbers, colors, etc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3won-7W3Js&list=PLE2F2C912A1DCD5B2
3. Download or Buy Tae Kim’s Japanese Grammar Guide
I don’t recommend any other textbook more than I recommend Tae Kim’s grammar guide. It’s incredibly well written and it goes against the norm a little bit. It encourages you to begin learning Japanese from the lowest politeness form and work your way up, since it makes WAY more since to do that. He goes from the plain form and then teaches you to add the politeness levels and conjugations to them. Traditionally, textbooks teach the polite forms first and then ask you to go backwards in a way. So counter intuitive, but the reason they do that is so that you can begin speaking immediately to adults. That’s all fine and dandy, but you aren’t learning the language properly. Period.
4. Begin Learning Kanji with WaniKani
I’ve heard people sing praises about WaniKani, so I’ll keep this short because you can read about how awesome it is all over the web. In short, it’s a free website that helps you learn around 2000 essential Kanji. It uses the spaced repetition method meaning after you’ve learned around 20 or so kanji/radicals, it will move those to the “to be reviewed” so that you can come back to them later. You will have to keep reviewing them until they’ve been moved to the ‘burned’ section. In other words, it’s burned in your mind and properly memorized. I highly recommend it.
5. Use Fluent-U for Immersion
At some point you’ll need to know how Japanese sounds and how to understand it. That’s where Fluent-U comes in. It uses modern media to help you learn Japanese. You learn through studying anime, tv shows, music videos, commercials, and popular Youtube videos. It is also uses space repetition, but most importantly every vocabulary word is taught with real world examples from real movies, tv shows, etc.
6. Take it Slow in the Beginning The key to learning Japanese is to master, nay, DOMINATE the essentials. Take your time while learning the basic grammar points and practice, practice, practice them. Use your new vocabulary to make new sentences with your new grammar and do whatever you can to practice. 7. Create a Schedule and Stick To It If you haven’t already, go check out my post about creating a self-study schedule. It will get you what you need to create your own self-study schedule to learn language intensively. Once you have created a self-study schedule, do what it takes to stick to it. You only become fluent in a language with hard work, not good intentions alone. So get it done! I also like to use an app called Habatica. It makes a game out of getting into getting daily tasks accomplished and crossing stuff off your to-do list. You level up, get armor and rewards and pets. It’s so cool! You can turn language learning into a game with this app! Hope that helps! :)
