So it’s not enough that at least 30 people every few months must either die or lose their desires, but the civilians, who had nothing to do with this literal show for entertainment, need to die for the world to be remade.
And you know this. This is just common knowledge. I get it, “death isn’t seen as something serious” whatever, but have some empathy. People of the past are still people.

For the people still unaware, listed on the image, screenshot on episode 43 of Kamen Rider Geats, are the ages of Keiwa's family.
Keiwa himself is 22 y/o
his older sister, Sara, is 25 y/o
his parents Shigeru and Yukino would live up to the ages of 52 and 51 respectively in Keiwa's world.
We still have no definite timeline on when the Sakurai parents perished in a DGP-related event, but it was safe to say it was before Ace became a DGP participant.

Note
since I watched Den-O aaaand there is already a Sakurai in Den-O I can imagine this happening.
Sara: Keiwa... there is a weird masked person attacking mom and dad.
Sara: Ehh?
*Zeronos liner suddenly appears and whisked the Sakurais away from the scene and protects the other civilians from evil Rider attack but disappears right away.
Yuuto: Damn the Nogami...
Deneb: Is everyone alright?
Sara: Eh? Eeeeeeeh?!!!
Yuuto: Oi, Deneb! Don't go scaring people!
Yuuto: Sorry about him, I'm Sakurai Yuuto.
Shigeru *the dad*: Yuuto, your name sounds familiar...
Shigeru: I remember there being someone about a Yuuto being talked about one time but I don't remember when.
Yukino: Regardless, thank you for saving us.
Yuuto: That's what suspected families are for.,
Yuuto: We share the same surname, down to the Kanji.
Yuuto: But you'll soon forget about me once this is all over.
Yuuto: Not even this *shows the blank id core but white from the punkjack special* can give your memories of me back.
Sara: *touches the white ID core and remembers everything*
Sara: Oh no! Keiwa!!!
Yukino: What about your brother?
Sara: *gives the ID core to her parents... letting them remember how they died.*
Shigeru and Yukino: *hugs Sara in tears*
Yuuto: i'm afraid I'll have to cut this short...
Sara: What happened to Keiwa?
Yuuto: Here's what I know.
----
Yuuto: Nogami, I told his older sister.
Yuuto: Do you think it'll pull him away from the current game master?
Ryotaro: If he sees his sister, he'd surely cut ties with them.
Ryotaro: Sento-kun and Takeru-kun can work together in restoring Tsumuri-san to her former self.
Ryotaro: We just need Keiwa-kun away from the game master and that frog of a supporter of his.
Ryotaro: Unlike, the buffalo, he hasn't killed yet... but he will surely do it and will regret it afterwards, we need to pull him away now.
Yuuto: What about Ace and the others.
Ryotaro: We cannot count on them to be impartial. The buffalo struck down Sara-chan, Ace-kun and Neon-chan failed to check on him on the day they knew of Sara-chan's fate.
Yuuto: Nogami... thank you.
Ryotaro: They're my family too... even if we don't know your actual relations to them.
Yuuto: probably cousins to a certain degree with the father. maybe fourth degree.
Ryotaro: Regardless...
Oh, gods, I wish this was what happened. Keiwa deserves a fucking break goddamnit. It's just disappointing that it wasn't his fucking friends helping him get it. If a distant relative (and one by marriage) he didn't even know from Adam cared more about Keiwa than they did, it would really be disheartening.
And honestly, I started questioning Ace's judgement the minute he made Buffabutt a Rider again. He absolutely had the choice not to- and the guy was his and his friend's fucking murderer for crying out loud. He could've used the energy from restoring Azuma's ID core to restoring others who deserved it more, like Neon or Win.

The Legend Of The Teenage Therian Warriors Episode 2
Last time we saw Kenji he was dragged to the agreed upon meeting spot by Kireitsune. They came to a stop on what looked like a lawn in the open square(open as in a roofless living room sized block)that was in the middle of the hostel, Kenji saw 9 other girls with animal ears and tails out.
Okay Kenji here we are, I'll go stand with the other girls
Kireitsuné says as she walks over to them.
Kenji : Okay let's do this thing
Kenji says as he brings out his ears and tail and then he sees one girl eyeing him hard.
Cool as you already know me but I'm Kireitsune Minamoto from the fox family.
Kireitsuné says.
I'm Chitayna Yamamoto and I'm from the official
other Cheetah family
A girl with light beige hair and yellow eyes says as she smirks, she is also the one who was eyeing him.
I'm Hyöna Watanabe and I'm from the Leopard clan family
A girl with brunette hair and deep brown eyes says as she smiles in a way she seems to think is sexily.
I'm Yukino Izumi and I'm from the Snow Leopard family.
A girl with snow white hair and sky  blue eyes says in a really cool way without much emotion.
I'm Shishana Yamada and I'm from the Lion family
A girl with flowing blonde hair and yellow eyes says while she mock roars by going "rawr"
I'm Tora Sakurai and I'm from the Tiger family, uhm nice to meet you.
A girl with ginger red(orange)hair and orange eyes says in a shy and timid manner.
I'm Tsukiko Hinamoto and I'm from the Wolf family, you can count on me.
A girl with short jet black hair and black eyes says.
I'm Jackie Furakawa and I'm from the Jackal family, I know my name is predominantly male, but whatever.
A girl with short dark gray hair and gray eyes says in a way filled with harsh attitude.
I'm Gina Miura and I'm from the Coyote family, I hope you will shine bright here.
A girl with silver hair and silver eyes says.
And I'm Akane Matsuda from the Dhole family, you
will always be safe in my care.
A girl with red hair and a blue eye showing says, Kenji isn't sure if both her eyes are blue or if she is heterochromic and her other eye is possibly a different color
After they all introduced themselves to him Kenji spoke up.
I'm Kenji Shedji and as you're all probably aware I'm part of the first Cheetah family and that my father's Akio Shedji, the man who got everyone to stop being in clans and start making families, but I ask you to treat me like a normal teenage boy and not a prince because the ten of you are also royalty, princesses to be more precise.
They all nodded their heads.
Kireitsune walks over to Kenji and gives him a great big hug.
"Welcome here officially"
She says welcomingly
The others walk over to him as well to officially welcome him.
Chitayna also hugs Kenji quite tightly.
" Oh handsome, destiny put you here to meet me."
She says flirtatiously.
Hyöna throws herself into Kenji's arms.
"You're such a cutie you know that?!"
She says gushingly.
Yukino pulls Kenji into a friendly one arm hug
"Nice to meet you man."
She says coolly.
Shishana gives Kenji a bone crushing hug causing a gasp
"Nice to meet ya, welcome to the pride."
She says in a welcoming manner
Tora shyly gives Kenji a soft hug.
"Uhm like I said earlier it's nice to meet you Kenji."
She says shyer still.
Tsukiko hugs Kenji too.
"Welcome to the pack, looking forward to you being our Alpha."
She says in a friendly manner.
Jackie shakes Kenji's hand.
"Well I guess it's nice to meet you, not like I care that much."
She says haughtily.
Gina gives Kenji a hug like most of the others.
"I'm sure we're going to have a bright time."
She says making Kenji laugh a little seeing as Gina's hair and eyes shine like silver coins just like her obvious pun.
Akane gives him a little hug too.
"I protect my friends so we'll get along just fine."
She says reassuringly.
"You all seem like quite nice people, I'll have to get used to your attitude though Jackie."
Kenji says in a somewhat happy manner
"Now before things get rough, Tora let's show Kenji around the hostel a little bit okay."
Kireitsuné says placatingly
"So uhm like what do
you say Kenji, like may we
show you around?"
Tora asks shyly.
"Sure thing you two, by the way Chitayna please stop with the possessive thing, it bothers me."
Kenji says addressing three of the girls respectively.
"Oh Kenji I'll try but there's nothing that can keep us apart for long."
Chitayna says in a disconcerting manner.
"Yeah yeah, just keep this to a minimum, anyway I'll see the rest of you around supper time."
Kenji says addressing everyone.
Okay let's go!" Kireitsuné says as she links with Kenji's right arm while Tora links his left bashfully
Please take good care of us and uhm please hide your ears and tail when we're in the town.
Tora says in her shy way.
"Oh yeah I forgot about that and also about the fact that I come from a school where people thought I was cosplaying.
Kenji says and hides his ears and tail
They leave and first they show him around the hostel, then
they head into the town.
"So Kireitsune and Tora can you tell me a little bit more about yourselves?"
Kenji asks interested.
"Well people say I'm a little bit foxy everytime I am standing up for my friends."
Kireitsuné says seeming kind of annoyed by her own statement.
"Haha if the normal humans even knew that foxy has nothing to do with attitude."
Kenji says laughing.
"They're just ignorant, anyway I'm kind of shy and timid but that's just how I am." Tora says honestly."
"I'm sure your friends adore you, even the quirky ones,am I right Kireitsune?"
Kenji asks?
"Yeah that's completely true Tora-chan, we are all here for you."
Kireitsuné says reassuringly.
"Thank you Kireitsune-san, you're always so nice to people, that's why you are cool."
Tora says in a thankful manner.
"Oh thank you Tora-chan, so Kenji-dono what else is there you want to know?"
Kireitsuné says to Tora and then asks Kenji a question.
"Everything that you can tell me about yourselves no matter what it is."
Kenji says.
"Okay you've probably noticed but I like clothes with borders"
Tora says.
"As you can see I like dressing with clothes no one else would wear in public unless they were at a costume party."
Kireitsuné says with a smile.
"Wow you two have great taste in things, you can already guess things about me though."
Kenji says amazed.
"Yes like you're not very picky about what you wear, eat and so forth right?"
Kireitsuné deduces.
"And how you're a nice person who would always be there for friends and loved ones."
Tora says.
"Yeah that was pretty easy to notice wasn't it haha, well you two do seem pretty smart."
Kenji says laughing.
They walk around town with Kireitsune and Tora showing him around the town, the shops, street vendors, other schools from
the outside and so on.
They get home later, eat supper, bath and all go to bed while Kenji reflects on his first day.
"These girls are all so nice but I'll have to watch out for Chitayna, get used to Jackie too."
Kenji says to himself as he drifts off to sleep and rests in a peace filled atmosphere.

You should check out the anime "Candy Boy". It centers around the incestuous relationship between a pair of fraternal twin girls in college. In the first installment, one of the twins (Kanade) thinks her sister (Yukino) is dating another girl (Sakuya) and tries to keep her distance. However, Yukino thinks Kanade is the one dating Sakuya. Distraught, Yukino begs Kanade not to leave her and they confess their feeling to each other. It's probably the most wholesome incestuous relationship ever.
Wow, this is a wonderful rec. What a rare find!
Tumblr media
Yukino and Kanade Sakurai are twin sisters that live together in a high school dorm. Although they are twins, they tend to act romantic toward each other, holding hands and going on dates. One day, Kanade sees Yukino hanging out with a new girl, Sakuya Kamiyama. Realizing how much time these two spend together, Kanade assumes they are dating, and she begins to distance herself from her sister. Yukino promptly notices and pleads with Kanade not to leave. In reality, Sakuya has only been asking for advice about Kanade, revealing her obsessive love. How will this love triangle play out?
Thanks, Anon!

Happy Birthday Kana Hanazawa (Feb. 25)
Happy 30th birthday to Kana Hanazawa!
PART ONE: Role Compilation PART TWO: Song Recommendations PART THREE: YouTube Excursion (on @natsspammityspamspamham )
She turns the big 30! I think she’s one of those female voice actors that can defy the boundaries of age in the seiyuu industry (which happens to be very sexist). She has a massive amount of range in terms of her acting, she sings well (she originally intended to be an idol), and she actively supports and is actually a fan of many of her fellow female seiyuu. I think she might still be dating Kensho Ono. I haven’t heard a word of a breakup.
There will be NO “TOP FIVE ROLES” because I already made one! I might update it eventually though. Here are some posts where she appears:
Top Five Kana Hanazawa Roles
Seiyuu Challenge (3+4): Favourite and Least Favourite Female Seiyuu
Seiyuu Challenge #21: The seiyuu with the most acting range?
Charapedia: The Top 20 Female Seiyuu (as of Apr 2018)
Seiyuu in Traditional Clothing
Seiyuu Drawing!
Since I will not be able to include gifs for all the roles, please feel free to check out any of the video compilations I use too! I tried to not hold back too many roles for this.
Role Compilation
youtube
*there’s a mistake in the video at 2:45: Kosaki Onodera from Nisekoi is the correct role
Shirase Kobuchizawa - Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Tumblr media
Natsume Tsuchimikado - Tokyo Ravens
This anime was disappointing. I enjoyed it at the time, but I knew it was absolute trash.
Tumblr media
Ayase Shinomiya - Guilty Crown
Tumblr media
Kurokami no Otome - Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome
Tumblr media
Aika Fuwa - Zetsuen no Tempest
I didn’t like this anime, but everyone else seems to like it!
Tumblr media
Rumi Yokoi - Tonari no Seki-kun
This anime was great.
Tumblr media
Yuki Minagawa - Tsurezure Children
This anime was pretty good too. This character just loves to mess with her friend.
Tumblr media
Hadaly Lilith - Shisha no Teikoku
I’m pretty sure she’s the only named female character in this anime.
Tumblr media
Nene Kinokuni - Food Wars
Tumblr media
Mikoto Asuka - Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
Tumblr media
Kusano - Sekirei
This character is your token loli in an ecchi anime which brings concern.
Tumblr media
Nana Sakurai - Prince of Stride
Tumblr media
Akane Tsunemori - Psycho-Pass
This is probably one of her best roles. I just haven’t watched it yet.
Tumblr media
Sharon Rainsworth - Pandora Hearts
The refined one on the right. I identify with the character on the left though.
Tumblr media
Susukihotaru - Otome Youkai Zakuro
Tumblr media
Ruri Gokou - Oreimo
Tumblr media
Raphiel - Gabriel Dropout
Tumblr media
Shiro - Deadman Wonderland
She’s a little crazy. Just a little.
Tumblr media
Red Blood Cell - Hataraku Saibou
This character is cute, but I... how do you ship cells? They’re cells?
Tumblr media
Shiemi Moriyama - Blue Exorcist
I don’t get why this character gets so much hate. I like her.
Tumblr media
Hana Midorikawa - Prison School
This is as PG as we’re getting for this one too.
Tumblr media

Sentai Announces Upcoming Titles
Tumblr media
Sentai Filmworks have unveiled upcoming releases for April as well as new acquisitions:
HOUSTON, TX — February 11, 2021 — Sentai announced today that it acquired rights to the suspense-filled thriller Babylon, the anime series based on Mado Nozaki’s popular light novels. Sentai plans to release the series on Blu-ray as well as digital sell-through via select outlets.
Zen Seizaki, dedicated prosecutor with the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, is assigned a seemly cut-and-dry case of false advertisement on part of a pharmaceutical company. But what starts as a routine investigation soon turns into something much darker, the strange details of the case painting a portrait of corruption and deceit that permeates the mayoral election being run in the newly formed Shiniki District. Soon Seizaki discovers depravity that puts at risk the very fabric of the Japanese justice system — not to mention Seizaki’s own sense of right and wrong.
The anime is a production of studio Revoroot (FLCL Alternative) and directed by Kiyotaka Suzuki (Psycho-Pass 2); Yutaka Yamada (Vinland Saga) provided the series’ musical composition. Babylon features the vocal talents of Takahiro Sakurai (Psycho-Pass) as Shinobu Kujin, Satsuki Yukino (When They Cry) as Ai Magase and Yuichi Nakamura (Jujutsu Kaisen) as Zen Seizaki. The series will be released on home video, including Blu-ray and digital sell-through, in Spring 2021.
Sentai announced today that it acquired NANA, the 47-episode anime series produced by Madhouse and based on the manga by Ai Yazawa (NEIGHBORHOOD STORY, TENSHI NANKA JA NAI) with 40+ million copies sold. The series has been upconverted from its original format to vivid high definition.
Two twenty-somethings seemingly share nothing in common apart from their first name, but a chance meeting on a train bound for Tokyo sets Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki on a collision course with destiny. Nana Komatsu, a love-at-first-sight dreamer, aims to find enduring happiness in the big city. Nana Osaki, neo punk rock vocalist, pursues her burning ambitions of musical stardom and worldwide fame. As their fates increasingly intertwine, they each chase their dreams — until the harsh realities of life in big city Tokyo threaten to tear everything apart.
A production of studio Madhouse (No Game, No Life, Parasyte -the maxim-, DEATH NOTE), NANA is directed by Morio Asaka (Chihayafuru, MY Love STORY!!, Cardcaptor Sakura) with series composition by Tomoko Konparu (Blue Spring Ride, Sunday Without God, Glass Mask) and music by Tomoki Hasegawa (Mysterious Girlfriend X, D.N.Angel, Zan Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei). The series stars Romi Park (Land of the Lustrous, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Shaman King) as punk-rocker Nana Osaki and KAORI (Kaleido Star, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Pokémon: Advanced Generation) as the cheerful Nana Komatsu.
Sentai is planning an HD version for release on digital outlets with an HD home video release to follow.
Sentai announced today that it acquired home video rights to the action thriller series HERO MASK, a Studio Pierrot (Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach) production, through a worldwide licensing arrangement (excluding Asia).
Detective James Blood, member of an elite police unit, pushes the edges of law enforcement to bring down the criminal threats and terrorist organizations plaguing a beautiful metropolitan city. When the murder of Crown Prosecutor Monica Campbell crosses his desk, Blood finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy involving LIVE, a two-faced corporate conglomerate with ties to the sordid underworld of human experimentation. With Sarah Sinclair — the only witness to Campbell’s death — at his side, Blood will have to face an army of mask-wearing superhumans to uncover the truth and stop LIVE before its plans can come to dark fruition…
HERO MASK stars Yasuyuki Kase (The Perfect Insider, 91 Days) as James Blood, Yuuko Kaida (The Promised Neverland, A Certain Scientific Railgun) as Sarah Sinclair, Kouki Uchiyama (Amagi Brilliant Park, Haikyuu!!) as Harry Creighton and Junpei Morita (Eureka Seven, Naruto: Shippuden) as Lennox Gallagher. Director Hiroyasu Aoki (assistant director Hunter x Hunter Movie 2: The Last Mission) provides series composition and the script.

Best of 2019
It wouldn't be a best of the year post if it wasn't hopelessly late.
10: Shinchou Yuusha ~Kono Yuusha ga Ore TUEEE Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru~ ∥ White Fox ∥ Dir. Sakoi Masayuki: The title makes this sound like it could be terrible but this series has a Konosuba-like aplomb that makes it one of the best comedies of the year. Toyosaki Aki is absolutely brilliant as the shithead damegami Listarte and the animation consistently matches her over-the-top comedic masterclass. The show even has a real ending; opinion is split but I found it surprisingly satisfying.
9: Babylon ∥ Revoroot ∥ Dir. Suzuki Kiyotaka: This is the first Strand-type anime. Babylon is incredibly hard to describe and, having only seen it once, I'm not even fully confident in saying what it's about. It is a wild ride that meditates on some serious themes and seems to come to conclusions that won't be entirely comfortable for a lot of readers. This is one you really have to experience for yourself.
8: Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari ∥ Kinema Citrus ∥ Dir. Abo Takao: The most discoursed-about series of 2019 ends up being a surprisingly mature take on the isekai tensei genre. Like the best entries in the genre it features a protagonist who is deeply flawed and Naofumi's journey to learning to trust and love again is genuinely moving. It definitely does come off a bit like an incel fantasy at first but it is ultimately way more nuanced than that could ever suggest. Also, Raphtalia is best wife.
7: Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai ∥ Gemba ∥ Dir. Mizushima Tsutomu: Tsutomu, you son of a bitch, you did it again. While Kotobuki doesn't reach the rareified air of Garupan (pun not intended) it is very much in the same vein, and offers unending joy to any nerd who loves warplanes or just aviation in general. The script from the always-excellent Yokote Michiko is tight and compelling and gives a genuinely interesting backdrop to the frenetic plane action. Kotobuki is an excellent example of the power of showing rather than telling, something anime is woefully bad at: the fact that Kotobuki's isekai setting is never really expounded on makes it that much more interesting.
6: Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu ∥ C2C ∥ Dir. Anzai Takefumi: If Katsuwo's other work to be adapted into anime, Mitsuboshi Colors, is about being a child, then Bocchi is about the fraught transition from childhood into early adulthood. The titular Hitori Bocchi will be a frighteningly relatable character (my comment for the first episode on my blog was 'We Are All Bocchi') but unlike other series clearly aimed at alienated nerds, the show never feels sorry for Bocchi and most importantly, Bocchi doesn't feel sorry for herself. The show is explicitly about the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone and although it's hard for Bocchi to do this, with the help of her friends she's able to work up the courage necessary to grow from a scared child into a functioning young adult. Also she's cute as fuck.
5: Machikado Mazoku ∥ J.C. Staff ∥ Dir. Sakurai Hiroaki: This is one of the best Kirara anime in ages. Kohara Konomi and Kitou Akari are a wonderful comedic combination, and Shamiko is probably the cutest girl of the whole year. She's pretty much the definition of the phrase "moe through helplessness" which makes her quest to be an evil demon truly hilarious. Like all the best Kirara anime, Machikado Mazoku slowly becomes a yuri anime as Momo's character develops and it becomes increasingly clear that she's just hard gay for Shamiko. I could watch these two be tsundere for each other forever.
4: Joshikousei no Mudazukai ∥ Passione ∥ Dir. Takahashi Takeo: There were a lot of excellent comedies this year and I always find them hard to review. Where Mudazukai particularly excels is the crassness of its characters: like the title suggests these aren't your typical cutesy anime JKs. They crack dirty jokes, take the piss out of each other, and feel more genuinely like friends than a lot of high school girls in anime. Akasaki Chinatsu in particular is pitch-perfect as 'Baka,'  its like she was born to be stupid. Probably the funniest show of the year, even though I have one comedy ranked above it.
3: Senkizesshou Symphogear XV ∥ Satelight ∥ Dir. Ono Katsumi: The fact that a Symphogear series could end up this high on the rankings is something like a miracle. After years of me shitting all over it for incomprehensible plotlines and disposable characters, they somehow not only fixed it in the last season, but even retroactively redeemed some of the elements from those shitty third and fourth seasons and created some of the most thrilling moments of the year in the process. It even goes as far as to reach back to the first season and address the latent themes of Japanese nationalism that have always hung over the show in resolving Tsubasa's character arc. XV delivers such a satisfying conclusion that it fully justifies the past six years spent on developing the Symphogear series in a way I never thought possible. It's a beautiful thing to behold.
2: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai ~Tensai-tachi no Ren'ai Zunousen~ ∥ A-1 Pictures ∥ Dir. Hatakeyama Mamoru: The romantic comedy is probably the most prolific genre in late night anime, and Kaguya-sama stands shoulder to shoulder with the greats. Everything from the voice acting (Koga Aoi should be a superstar, and Kohara Konomi is already on her way to being a household name) to the animation to the direction to the writing is superb. Kaguya even delivers in spades in the "romantic" side of "romantic comedy" which isn't something every rabukome can say. The number of series that I can say have made me cry from laughing and from emotion is pretty small, but Kaguya is proudly among them.
1: Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo ∥ Lay-duce ∥ Dir. Andou Masahiro & Tsukada Takurou: After all these years, Okada Mari has finally delivered her magnum opus. There has perhaps never been a more frank discussion of female adolescent sexuality than Araoto, drawing heavily as it does from Okada's own lived experience as a confused and bullied teenager. These girls are fragile people who are walking a knife's edge between childhood and adulthood, and they don't always keep their balance. As someone who didn't grow up as a girl, it's not something I can intrinsically understand, but it's a testament to Okada's writing that Araoto MAKES you understand what it's like to be a teenage girl going through puberty. It's ugly, it's dangerous, it's scary, and... it's something every woman goes through. Araoto deftly tackles themes of discovering ones sexuality, homosexuality, and the pressure put on young women by a society that both sexualizes them against their will but also demands that they remain chaste and pure. It is unlike almost anything else that's ever been made in this medium, and that's why it's my anime of the year.
Honorable mentions... Like I said above, this was a strong year for comedy so some good series didn't make the cut. Ueno-san wa Bukiyou was a great showcase for Serizawa Yuu's comedic chops (which us Pripara fans have known about for years) and featured some of the most memorable gags of the year... Kemurikusa saw Tatsuki triumphantly return to television with his first full length work since Kemono Friends, and I frankly found it to be better than Kemofure; a truly enjoyable work of post-apocalyptic science fiction... Speaking of science fiction, I also feel compelled to mention Kanata no Astra, which seemed underappreciated but ended up being an extremely well-written SF series. Of course, we also have to mention Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO if we're talking about science fiction; I didn't particularly like YU-NO's second half that much, but it's worth watching if only to understand where so much of modern anime comes from in the first place.
The awards go to...
Best Actress: Koga Aoi as Shinomiya Kaguya, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai. I mentioned above that this girl should be a superstar, and it's frankly absurd that she hasn't gotten more leading roles considering the considerable talent she shows off as Kaguya. She's a one-woman wrecking crew in this series, with her ability to effortlessly straddle the range between "cold and detached psychopath" and "petulant 8 year old throwing a tantrum" being the lynchpin of a lot of the series fundamental humor.
(Honorable mention: Akasaki Chinatsu as "Baka," Joshikousei no Mudazukai; Yukino Satsuki as Magase Ai, Babylon)
Newcomer Seiyuu of the Year: Kohara Konomi. It's a sweep for Kaguya-sama, and the voice acting is a big part of the reason that show was so exceptional. It kind of feels like cheating to give this to someone who's already played a Precure, but Toei were just really ahead of the curve on this one. 'Koko-chan' exploded onto the scene in 2019 between her roles as Fujiwara-shoki and Shamiko in Machikado Mazoku, with a distinctive vocal style and a knack for comedic delivery. Several of the most memetic lines of the year, like Fujiwara's "Don da yo!" and Shamiko's "Kore de katta to omou nayo!" come courtesy of her, and I feel like that ability to stick in people's minds is a testament to her level of talent. Though I gave Koga the nod overall for her performance as Kaguya, it's clear that Kohara is the one the industry has earmarked for future success with the level of prominence she's had over the past year or so, so she gets this award.
(Honorable mention: Fairouz Ai. "Fai-chan" made a splash thanks to her unusual background, but she's also proven to be a talented actress after appearing from seemingly out of nowhere to play Hibiki in the Onegai Muscle anime. It's out of the scope of this post, but she really made an impression in Oshibudo as Eripiyo, but her body of work is still too thin for her to win this award outright. She's shown she has a knack for the funny with her brusque and aggressive delivery, but I'd really like to hear her as a dramatic lead sometime soon.)
