This is a small question, that perhaps you didn't need to explain further. I know you are moving your world into an original idea. But I'm wondering Arturo's mom quirk was called Beck and Call, (Teleportation type), is like?
Oh man I haven't talked about Arturo's family in forever! I almost forgot about them! Beck and Call is a teleportation art that allows Valentina (Arturo's mom) to call or beckon a person to her side and away at any moment, as well as allow her to willfully teleport to and from someone who is beckoning (gesture) or calling to her.
It was rather handy on film sets as she could move across the studio space and direct from anywhere as long as she was in range to hear them. (also makes signing autographs from fans easier) She doesn't often teleport people as it can make them disoriented and sick, but she's quite used to it. Arturo has the same side-effect if he uses his power too much. Vertigo ensues.
When mixed with her husbands snapshot art, it allows Arturo to practically teleport and bounce to anything within sight, as long as the path is unobstructed in the moment he travels it, his power isn't matter related, and so can't phase through solid mass if there is objects in the way)
Hope that helped! I love thinking about what combos of arts make the kids powers~

Has Kuze thought of diversifying into other shadow puppets like an crocodile or bulls. Has he tried to make finger guns to blast at his enemies? Or tried to call someone with the phone gesture? What would happen if he made the heart gesture?
He can't create anything that becomes untethered to his body like projectiles, so he tends to stick to wings, dog heads, claws ect (Stuff that stays rooted to his body) I'm sure if he WILLED it he could make a very cute little shadow puppet with a little animated heart, but I think the embarrassment would kill him instantly.
His snake is his most versatile puppet for long distance attacking, since Ren largely does all the close fighting, Kuze tends to be the one who catches targets so that Ren can get close. The snake can also be detected less easily depending on how big Kuze makes it.
He uses the ram to breach doors, and the dogs to maul, and sometimes he can block incoming attacks with the bull, but it usually disperses after taking a hit and has to switch. But I've definitely thought about the uses for other complex puppets, he just can't use any projectiles, and the further away his puppets get, the less strong they are, (also dependent on light sources if he isn't in his mini light-room suit)

Out all your villain OCS I'm most curious about Ester! I'd love to know more about her ^^
She's currently going through a lot of changes character/backstory wise because of the new setting, a lot had to be changed about her. She's a little less complacent in her new world, but is still a bleeding heart.
Due to her background she ends up serving Q directly after her whole MHVA arc. Her power is still the same too! Her power is Center of Gravity, meaning she can make herself the center of gravity and control the level of pull, enough to make herself into a giant slow-moving monster by fluctuating the push and pull of things.
She definitely has a much bigger role now, because she is the one who helps Garrote become Amalgam. I tried doodling her, but my vision for her is still pretty weak Dx

Have you ever explained why Vert's eye is a spiral? Is it because of her powers?
It is! It spins too when they use it~ For no particular reason other than I think it's cute~ and sometimes spooky, Vert can be creepy sometimes~

Since the world has drowned by seas, will we see a villainous pirate crew?
Oh yeah, both Garrote's are originally pirates as well~ They send those with aquatic mutations out first to disable ships so that Lady Garrote and Ivan can board them and deal with the crew. Ivan never sets foot back on a boat after Nissa dies though. But yeah probably a lot more, but MHVA's job is more or less to deal with them~ My main brats mainly take care of on land/satellite city crime.
Nissa is my fave pirate to draw though ^^ Nissa forever.

You’ve inspired me to actually start writing down my ideas because I’m trying to create a superhero story and somehow also landed on flooded setting and ancient interdimensional bacteria making superpowers. Suppose there’s only so many ideas under the sun and it’s how the author mixes them up and tells them that really matters. Dw thought of a power origin that I think is more thematically appropriate for my setting. Idk why I felt compelled to send this not really asking anything just thought hey what are the chances
I'm hardly the first one who ever had that idea and I certainly will not be the last! I feel like I saw a movie at some point ages ago that had a similar plot, and I also watched a documentary about scientists in the arctic who drill down into the permafrost and use microscopes to study ancient bacteria and the types of creatures that are actually still living down there which contributed to me wanting to do this as their origin story. (That and partially submerged skyscrapers in water is like, such a visual I'm attached to)
But never worry about having similar anything as anyone else. I mean, the well of ideas only runs SO deep, you are bound to overlap with somebody at some point. It's what you do with it that sets you apart!
There are plenty of say Fantasy stories that have essentially the same origin story/plot, but have their own identity due to the characters that inhabit that setting. Yours being interdimensional alone means that our worlds are already super different!
So no worries at all on that front~ By the same respect I'm copying every battle shonen/hero story that came before me if we count things like this! Which I am : ) huehuehue

With the new canon having the world flooded by the ocean, does the world still have deserts?
It does! Most of the shorelines have flooded miles inwards, but anything that is well above sea-level/ protected by mountain ranges ect is all still there. A lot of coastal cities are completely underwater, and in some places have built ontop of themselves on the old infrastructure.

Sorry I haven't been responding to many Asks or drawing, I caught some kind of chest cold/respiratory virus going around, just as I was getting back into things. So I have been basically like this all week
Hopefully I will be back to doodling soon, I'd like to redo all the character sheets for them~

Since your OCS aren't in the mha universe anymore have you thought about their own universe and how it would function? Would they still be in high school? I'd love to know more!
Yes actually! But there are a bunch of things I'm still kinda stumped on working.
In the Horizon Phase universe my kids are roughly college-aged instead of High schoolers. (Just makes more sense tbh)
Everyone in their universe developed their powers due to ancient bacteria being released into the waters by melting ice caps, and it's reaction to the radiation from the sun. So depending on where people are in the world, they can either be born with, or develop powers later on due to the environment and presence/state of the bacteria.
Because of the ice caps melting as well, much of the world is actually under water, places like Japan are almost completely underwater, (which gave me a reason to have so many Japanese students outside of Japan since they were originally ocs for a japanese show.)
The part I am struggling with is the infrastructure of the cities, I have a series of floating satellite cities that basically act as mini countries that are forming their own governments/ systems of protection which lead to the need to utilize people with certain powers,) but the LOOK of it is what I seem to be struggling with the most.
MHVA plays a much bigger role in this world because there is now so much more water to patrol, and the majority of people would have aquatic based powers due to the mass flooding all over the world. But the institution for my brats is one that I can't seem to decide on based on their new setting~ (Trying to decide where it is ect)
I played around with the idea of an iceberg-shaped city with a tiered infrastructure not unlike Sternbild City from Tiger and Bunny, Midgar from Final Fantasy 7, and lots of inspo from Kowloon's Walled City. With the mass of the city being underwater for all of the machinery/systems keeping it afloat and clean, and the above part being tiered in order to make best use of the space.
But I struggle to put my characters there right now, since Winston is now canonically from the shore (what is left of actual land) and some of the other characters are from the Satellite cities, I'm kinda having to rework how they all interact with one another.
It's fun at the same time though, fitting them in to this new world and seeing how they change based on their environment, but the core of everything still remains the same~
I hope that gives a little bit of insight! I have it so that most of the larger countries have anchor floating cities (i.e. a floating city that is still anchored to the actual land its people originate from), but some places have actually expanded. Monomiya canonically grew up in Hawaii, which in this universe actually expanded after the flood due to volcanic activity pushing the plate up a bit. Ryoka was born in a satellite city anchored to Japan, ect.
I got plenty more where that came from but I don't wanna talk everyones ears off lol

Have you ever thought about making an rp world for Horizon Phase?
Like one for people to RP? I haven't actually thought about it! Mostly because I am not totally sure I could handle the responsibility of like, moderating it, making rules and such.
I was a guest in a few MHA roleplay groups and they tend to die from lack of support, or implode due to bizarre management.
With me having a regular 9-5 and other rps with friends to work on, I'm not 100% sure I'd be able to devote enough time to running it ^^;
I'd be down to maybe make a discord or some kind of chat group for it if people were interested though~

It a lovely day, and today I've decided to
HOLD THE SCHOOL HOSTAGE
How would each character act and do been held hostage and trying to subdue a hostage situation?
Well, Winston would run out and try and be a hero, like an idiot, and Shimi would gather everyone and be like "So Winston is gunna do something dumb to start, so I'll start our plan there" And then the rest of the crew would just do whatever Shimi and Arturo decide since they are the strategists. That's it I think lol

Nice to see you back! I was wondering if there’s some other platform you’re on where you talk more about horizon phase? Sometimes a character or something is brought up and I think, “I don’t remember that”
Sometimes I just develop stuff behind the scenes and forget that I haven't told anybody 😂
but sometimes I will post and develop stuff on the Horizon Phase Instagram
https://www.instagram.com/horizon.phase/
I also keep all their images backed up on Toyhouse below:
otherwise I think I put just about everything on here, it's just hard to organize and recall on here like I can on toyhouse, so that's probably just me being forgetful rather than it being posted anywhere else. 😅

So, most of the students of the classroom have grouped up into team, Miss Diss gang, Arturo squad, and Shimi legion. But Izumi or Fearmonger is the only one without a group so is he a solo hero? Also, I like to entertain the name idea of Perilism like Peril mixed with Heroism.
Shimi Legion I'm dead 😂
Izumi doesn't really have a team at first, but after the whole Fumino and Scab incident Arturo becomes rather distant to the other students, so Izumi more or less takes his place in Winston's little cell.
Shimi also leaves school so Arturo more or less floats between open spots as they are down an offense person~
Also Perilism would be a great term for his power, but I feel like Fearmonger is so funny bc he looks so soft, so anytime he would take off the mask im developing for him, that people would go "...SOOO you're like Fearmongers stand in, right?"

So, in the new photo of all the students of Bright Star Academy, we see Jin but with his power in a way we haven't seen before. Jin Blue parasite cells usually are silky and are a sheet. But Jin Blue cells match a slimy, goopy, winged now. Is this a new ability to his AMP of matter shifting or just in a different form we just haven't seen yet?
I forgot all about that! When I was changing their ages and designs I forgot I played around with how the matter that forms Jin's power appears. I thought making some more organic shapes would make more sense considering the cell structure and origin of the matter. Still not totally sure if I like it, but It is something I'm considering changing!

So, Davey got his hero costume that matches his personality as a bright beacon of hope, safety, and comfort. But Connie is only seen in the regular MHVA uniform. So I wonder what hers would look like.
I guess I never drew her in her full suit! I drew her in the top half for an open Collab but never the full thing. It's not very much because she kinda burns through everything...There isn't a lot of materials that withstand the heat. One day I will actually draw it out

I remember in one of your post on how you made quirks, to never disregard an idea for someone ability, but with how unique the abilities are. Instead of simply making manipulation or project of elements powers. Is there any other tips or ways that help you make your character powers? Love your work and powers!
First of all thank-you so much ;__; I'm glad you get a kick out of my unhinged ramblings! Hmmm I guess my only tip besides what I outlined is just be curious about things even if you think they wont serve you now. I have an unfathomably short attention span so perhaps this is easier said than done for some folk, but I think an example I'll run with is very silly way I came up with a character last night~ I had a part in my story that I needed some sort of underground doctor for, Garrote nearly dies in a fight against Ren and gets a big ol hole in his chest, and its pretty hard to fix a giant hole in the chest, especially for such a big patchwork guy. Every time I have sat down to formally try and figure out what kind of character should be there I have failed. But last night I was running the scene through my head since I thought about making a few panel comic about it and I just saw a girl character eating a burger sitting at the edge of the tub while healing Garrote, and I was like "Well that's weird, but kinda funny, I like that, how can I make that work?"
and so then I was like "well it'd be great if she could create flesh...so her power should be some sort of regeneration power, but how can she just MAKE flesh and vasculature systems? and then my brain went back to the burger and was like "well...burger is technically flesh...wait" and then googled up how the body goes about filling holes when it's healing, i.e reconnecting its vasculature system and creating a matrix of cells for the flesh to basically seal back together, and so I decided that her power would be that when she eats flesh, she's able to create extracellular matrix in others and heal/regenerate their wounds.
I ended up thinking it was really funny and weird, and so then was like "well how do I nerf the fact that she could just buy like 12 McDondalds dollar menu hamburgers and heal a small army, which is when I thought "well, burgers are beef/pork/chicken, that kind of flesh while similar, is probably not good for intensely life threatening injuries like Ivan has, and it feels like it would more or less just be a patch job for things like stabs/bullet wounds. So then I had the horrible idea that she'd have to take in human flesh to resuscitate someone who was that far gone already, to be able to reform all of the complex structure of the actual human body, kind of like how some people can get flesh/organ transplants from animals, but they aren't quite a one-to-one match and can cause issues. (pretty sure I learned that fact from some weird facebook post and googled it after to see if that actually happened)
So I ended up making her villain name Cannibal Matrix (Or Hanibelle Matrix, haven't decided which yet, second one is funnier but time will tell) All of this process happened within about 15 minutes or so I guess the TLDR is, everyone's brains work in a specific way, if I fight the way my brain enjoys expressing itself, it usually just leads to me coming up with nothing and to myself getting frustrated. I think there is merit to sitting down formally and telling yourself that you're gunna come up with something in one sitting, but I think 90% of my ideas come when I am doing other things and my brain is just wandering around thinking about whatever.
I think though if I think about it further, imagining the scene itself helped form the character that needed to be there for me, the rest I sort of just happened to fall into place, so spend some time actually imagining interactions between your characters, your brain might fill in the spaces all on its own~ Expose yourself to lots of art and music, and weird facts about the world, fill the well your brain has to pull from when it comes to drawing inspiration to make something new~
#im sorry that was so long winded#its hard to describe my own process since half of them feel accidental#im a bad teacher

I think GanGan is the only character that hasn't being given as much information as the other students. Making her the wildflower in the class. Have you ever considered flesh out her personality and backstory? I'm just very curious about her.
She really is just a supporting character so I never gave too much thought to her tbh, but now that I am not under the constraints of another canon I was thinking of doing something with her~ Originally she's Ryoka's bestie because they're seen as demi-humans and not very well treated because of their looks. I plan on adding a LOT more demi humans now as I flesh out their new world though, so she'll probably get some development! The big reason nobody ever sees her is because she's SO HARD TO DRAW Dx I avoid doing it because I managed it one time and that felt like enough lol But as I looked at her tonight I also realized she's been on the back-burner because she also just resembles Diss too much in the face, so I fiddled around with her design a lil tonight and I think it helps a bit to differentiate them~
