Full video here:
And that is the end of Holligay's birthday Week! I hope you enjoyed! Please tell me if you did. Tonight, I am having my official birthday dinner with the family!
I would love to hear anything you specifically loved, and if you wanted to add anything:
You can tip me at either Ko-Fi, or,  since Ko-Fi has recently started running through Paypal as goods and  services, thus taking a fee from my tips, you can just directly tip me at Paypal under @docholligay (But  I recognize ko-fi allows for anon tips so I haven’t gotten rid of it)! If you’d like me to tag you with whatever I get with the tip, please leave a heart emoji in the comments!
If you’d like me to put it toward something certain, just let me know! I’d like to get myself
some new running gear
Dinner for Saturday night with the family so I don’t have to cook
A fancy vintage dress watch
If you’d like to contribute to any of those “buckets” just let me know in comments with your tip!

I love how yugioh market watch youtubers are always saying shit like "wait for the more people to post their copies on sale online for the price to drop so you don't get scammed" and follow it by saying "but if you have this card, post it at this stupid high price to try to scam people".

Bought Yugioh Rush Duels Dawn of The Battle Royale on sale for $10 & it's my current hyperfixation now. I even started watching the anime tie-in, Yugioh Sevens.
As someone who has been a fan of Yugioh! since its heyday, Rush Duels feels refreshing AF. I don't hate the new card summons that have come up since the 5D's era, but I don't completely love them either. They made the card game too complicated as time went on, and that affected Yugioh! video games like Legacy of The Duelist.
I enjoy Legacy of The Duelist a lot; it helped me get back into playing the card game digitally last year after not playing for several years. However, there are times when Legacy of The Duelist left me drained b/c some of the Story Mode duels would take over 20 turns to complete.
Dawn of The Battle Royale isn't as good of a game as Legacy of The Duelist, but I'm still enjoying it mainly b/c Rush Duels take less than 20 turns to do. Also, Rush Duels remind me of when I first got into Yugioh through the very first series. Back then, I was in elementary school & my friends and I would pretend to duel with imaginary cards and imitate the duels from the anime. We didn't exactly know the rules so we made it our own and had a ton of fun.
Dawn of The Battle Royale is super grindy because the card packs cost a lot of in-game currency. You also can't build your own deck until you either beat the game or insert a certain Konami Code after a certain point in the game. Until then, you have to rely on Deck Receipes you get from NPCs & you can't use a Deck Receipe until you obtain all the cards needed. In order to obtain all the cards, you have to duel an NPC repeatedly and buy card packs from the card shop. Sometimes, super rare cards require a Konami Code to be put in.
Despite Dawn of The Battle Royale's flaws, I am still enjoying this game. It has given me the same rush of joy and fun that I get in Legacy of The Duelist with a single player card game, but with the added bonus of a back to basics approach.

Another post (should be it for the week of all I bought)! ;p
This one I saw at Hot Topic Store, it was almost $20 when I bought it! =_= But I bet you can get them on sale or their online store too, but I had to get one to see if I can get Yami or Dark Magician~~~
I ended up with Slifer the Sky Dragon - the figure is nicely detailed, and it comes with a millennium stand and a mini card too. My favorite is the Millennium Puzzle case it came in, which you can turn into a necklace afterwards! It is nice to still see Yugioh Merch still in stores, maybe one day they will surprise us with a mini Bakura or Marik figure too~lol (wishful thinking)!
Bonus Photo: made a gif of the photo above - trying to keep the Millennium Puzzle steady!

Man, it really is a tremendous bag fumble that Nintendo/TPC never made more Pokemon TCG video games after the GameBoy.
It'll never be a replacement for people who want to play the card game in person, meaning they wouldn't lose out on sales of the actual cards but it will get me- and others like me- to spend money on a game and maybe serve as the gateway for people who don't currently play to start playing in person.
This also technically extends out to YuGiOh and MtG, but they at least put out more than two video games total.

If writing duels for the current climate of the OCG is too difficult, then why not just keep the actual duels to a minimum? Any introductions to an archetype could very simply be a rundown of the essential combos, most of the plots in the show could be slice of life stories involving making fanart of the cards, watching the anime in-universe, examining the card game lore from the perspective of the characters in-universe and many other things fans of Yugioh would do with each other that aren’t dueling. If they need action, they could have 2-3 episode climaxes to each arc that focuses on each duel of a match and skip over the combos that anyone with incentive to watch would have already memorized over and over again. For tournament arcs, they could put just as much effort into showcasing the actual logistics of numerous events and perhaps bring up time rules so that lp has an actual reason to matter. There are many ways to advertise Yugioh without having duels be the center and still be incredibly entertaining, if not more so!
Tumblr media
I know people like the idea of more 'down to earth' normal stuff with Tournaments, being at card shops, discussing lore.
But uh. That would instantly crater ratings for the intended 6-9 year old audience that watches Yu-Gi-Oh! on Sundays for whacky comedy, big robots and cool dragons, as well as magic cards appearing as super power-ups.
Producers have said:
"Duels have to be in the center" "The Duels have to be shown in full most times" "Show has to appeal to attention addled children, not the adult periphary"
There's a reason why every time say, Vanguard tries to appeal to normies, its real fanbase beats it with a stick and kicks it in the side until it starts involving wizard nonsense and starts actually involving the card game.
Either there needs to be a second card game for Yu-Gi-Oh! or you're going to have to accept card text length and combo complexity reverting to 2004~2010 levels, because TV Tokyo, which is one of the four key rights holders, and who along with NAS (the production and licensing company in Japan) are higher on the food chain than Konami, want Duels with Rush Duel level complexity and there must be Duels on the regular.
Please solve the riddle of power creep, short simple Duels with no difficult combos, but do not crater product sales, but the cards are usually the same as Real Life.
