✨Manga Recommendation of the week ✨

Title: Sesame Salt and Pudding 

Author: Suzuki Yufuko

Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ / 5 ⭐️

This was an unexpectedly adorable version of what I think is a typical troupe. It grabs you by the crazy bad decision making start and makes an honestly adorable and realistic love story. If you feel like reading something on the more mild side of shoujo/josei I think this is an amazing start!

Sesame salt and pudding...

... or that romance manga I read randomly and which turned out to be almost exactly what I wanted. I read it under the japanese title ‘goma shio to purin’.

Look at them. Look.

There’s only one volume I think, so it’s a short read, and honestly, I don’t think it needed more. That’s my number one ‘comfort read discovered in 2021′. The whole plot of how they meet is stupid and unrealistic but it’s fun. There are several difficult things involved in the plot too (emotional blackmail for example), but none are between the two protagonists.

I liked it for a very simple and a very stupid reason. There are all these love stories, especially in manga, with an age gap that feels uncomfortable (really what is the thing with students and their teachers...). There is a large age gap between the protagonists, so if it triggers you in any way, you should probably pass that one. But anyway, the fact that made it bearable for me, was that they somehow are at the same point in life when they meet. She is much younger than him, but she is a working woman. She is even a heavy machinery operator! She is so cool. At the beginning of their relationship, she is even the main breadwinner and the lease is under her name; she is technically in a position of power despite her age. And they become friends before anything else. Stranger to friends to lovers. I like that, that’s the normal progression of a sane relationship, not like the... ‘idol to lovers’ thing. Also they ask themselves relevant questions about their age gap, and at some point, they communicate. They really try to make their relationship work.

So I liked it because it was a unexpectedly good take on the fact that sane relationships with an age gap can exist under the right conditions. Actually, somewhere I have a WIP were I was trying to write juste that, so maybe I’ll just let it go now that I’ve read that (lol no.)

Wytrzymam do 25 stycznia, wytrzymam! v.v

Dobra, doczekałam się drugiego tomu Soli z pieprzem i puddingu od Yufuko Suzuki, przeczytałam, a potem wiecie, co się stało? Rozpoczął się dramat czekania na tom ostatni. Jakby ktoś się zastanawiał, czemu tak wolno przedstawiam wam kolejne tomy serii, odpowiedź jest prosta: ponieważ czekanie na kolejne części ma osobny krąg piekielny, a w nim pudełko z moim imieniem. Story: 8/10

It was really entertaining! My friend recommended me this short story because we were talking about age gap in romance and I kinda hate this trope. I guess this trope makes me uncomfortable because all the age gap romance I’ve read were weird things like student-teacher or a 16 years old with a 38 adult... That’s weird... But this story isn’t bad at all, the age gap is correct, they are both consenting adults and there’s no such things as “he knows her since she’s a child and waited for her to be 18 to date her”. The story itself was really basic but the dynamic between the two main characters is very entertaining. It was funny at some point, I did laugh at some jokes. It was a very cute romance story overall.

Art: 6/10

The art style was fine, maybe a little bit average. It was not bad at all. Well, I don’t really have any comments to make on the art style really...

Cast: 7/10

The two main characters were entertaining and funny. Their relationship and dynamics were what made the story so enjoyable. They both have very distinct personalities which makes their interaction funny and diverting at some point. Although I’m a little bit disappointed in the side characters because it felt like they were here just to support the main characters. Some of them appeared in one or two chapters and then disappeared and were never mentioned again.

Enjoyment: 9/10

I’m feeling really stressed because of school these days and reading Sesame Salt and Pudding made me feel a little better. It was short, funny and cute! I would totally recommend it if you want some age gap romance (in a non-weird way, but I’m still perplex about this trope...)

Overall: 8/10
