hello! it’s heather again and this time, i’m here to introduce you to vain glory’s world canon, choi chanwook, primarily known as na yubin. he’s significantly less pleasant to be around than siwoo, so... this’ll be fun. i do not have a profile page or a plots page up for him yet, so we’re really just out here winging it, yk? read under the cut for a tl;dr on his history and some personality pointers, but beware that there are mentions of drugs near the end. like this if you want to plot.

his parents married young and definitely pissed their families off in the process. everyone who knew them told them that they should wait, just in case they weren’t truly in love. but they were like... no, fuck that, we know what we want. they married at 19.

neither party went to college because they didn’t have the money to pay for it themselves and their families were too mad to fork up the cash to send them through school. they drifted around for a while, unable to find a good place where they were happy & could afford the rent. but they were happy to be together, so?

eventually settled down in the countryside & fell into hard labor jobs -- his mother became a farmer, his father became a factory worker. she worked by day and would be heading to bed just as he would be waking up to head to his third shift job.

they tried for a child for years, to no avail. she kept having complications with her pregnancies, or she wouldn’t get pregnant at all. they went through a lot during this time period and found themselves almost falling out of love. they fought all the time and considered divorce, but didn’t want to prove their families right.

anyway, choi chanwook came to them about ten years after they first started trying.

didn’t have a lot growing up because his parents didn’t have much money, but he was thankful for everything he did have, and his imagination was good enough for him anyway, yk??

watched a lot of tv instead of hanging out with other kids, because he didn’t have many friends; he lacked the excitement of youth, so most kids wouldn’t choose him over anyone else to hang out w. eventually started watching music shows.

was also into stargazing at night. so, he fell in love w stars both figuratively and literally.

he liked idols because it seemed like they had everything. nice clothes, pretty faces, friends, endless adoration, money, luxury...

when he was 14, he asked his parents if he could attend an idol trainee audition in seoul and they didn’t know what the fuck to say because he had never expressed interest in music before, but he had also never even really asked for anything so how/?? could they say no??? said yes bc they didn’t know what else to say.

by PURE LUCK, he passed three rounds of auditions and then became a trainee.

he trained really hard, passed out countless times, pushed himself to his limits.

four years later, he debuted as an idol! was given the stage name “na yubin” because the company thought that it fit his soft public image; plus, he didn’t want to use his birth name, anyway? wanted to protect his parents because they’re pretty private people. his birth name is not public information!!!!

lowkey he wasn’t that talented at the time...... the company put him in the back during choreo and only gave him a couple seconds of lines, but he was really handsome so he garnered a LOT of attention from day 1. almost every comment on his groups’ debut vid was about him. on variety shows, mcs talked to him a lot and questions fans sent in were almost all for him..... got a stupid amount of clout.

he was adored for his genuine, humble personality. seemed to make friends with literally everyone he crossed paths with.

group schedules turned into solo schedules, and every time his group had a comeback, they got more and more views because of people wanting to support yubin. he liked the attention!!! really!!!! but the company pushed him way too far and he ended up doing modeling, acting, mcing, etc and it got..... really tiring...... plus, his individual popularity resulted in him drifting away from his group members.

started taking uppers to get him through rigorous schedules. mainly adderall but also ritalin and concerta. and theeeen he started getting really fucking paranoid and also felt on edge because of crazy fans, unrealistic expectations, etc, so he started taking downers, too!!! fun!!!! so now he’s on a dangerous mix of both. yummy.

started getting an attitude problem and a MAJOR ego.........

anyway it’s 2020 and he’s a big bitch. only really cares about his parents...... that’s it..... thinks he’s better than most people. might have underlying insecurities, but? who can say for sure. he can still play nice when he wants to because once upon a time, he was the warmest boy you could meet. but...... he’s very, very cold when it comes down to it. he was never meant for the limelight, and it killed him without actually killing him.

Dream Come True

Idol: Lee Yubin/Dami (Dreamcatcher)

Everyone knows that Dami and the rest of Dreamcatcher were fans of Taeyeon. So when you end up introducing her, she tries her best not to fangirl right on the spot.

Looking at her phone to double check your text, Yubin had to calm herself down before she does something to embarrass herself in front of her members. Typically, she was very calm but when you asked her if she could fetch you from your company before your date, her mind started to go haywire.

It would have been fine since she’s used to picking you up in front of SM, but you had told her that your manager would wait for her and lead her to your practice room.

“Dami, what’s with the look? Did you see a ghost or something?” Yoohyeon asked when she spotted the younger girl sitting still on the couch, phone clutched in her hands before she looked up with a panicked glint in her eyes. Everyone else seemed to be busy with their own thing to notice.

“Y/n wants me to go to SM.” She answers, confusing her friend further. “So? You’ve been there to pick her up before.” She couldn’t see what could be causing the younger girl to look so frazzled, but then, Yubin showed her the text, making the taller girl let out an ‘oh’ and then chuckling as she patted her arm.

“I’m sure you’ll be fine.”

“But Y/n knows how I feel about some of her friends there! What if they don’t like me?” She couldn’t help but voice out her worries and the older girl smiled more while she rubbed her back. “You worry too much, Yubin. You’ll be fine and Y/n won’t make you do something she knows will make you uncomfortable.” Yoohyeon swears that you’re the only one who can make her usually calm friend look so nervous.

Though she wanted to protest more, the time on her phone told her that it was time for her to leave or else she would be late. On the other hand, if she was a bit later, then maybe she could get to you as you exit your company. But you already told her that your manager would be waiting and she didn’t want to seem rude, so with a sigh, she gets ready, having a few more words of encouragement from Yoohyeon, before she finally leaves the dorm.

Arriving in front of the large building, the rapper had to lift her hood up to cover her head, taking in a deep breath before she went in. At first, she thought that it would be a problem, but your manager was quick to spot her and waved her over with a smile. They exchanged a brief greeting before she’s being led to you.

She made sure to stick close to your manager as they went through various halls. She had felt her heart beat faster when she caught sight of few of the idols there like Sehun from EXO and even Seulgi and Irene of Red Velvet.

Being in such close distance with these idols intimidated her a bit because these were known to be one of Korea’s best groups, and though Dreamcatcher was also well-known, she just thought that they were in a completely different level.

Even you were slowly rising to the top with your group, and she often wonders how lucky she had gotten when she managed to bump into you in one of your comeback stages and Dreamcatcher happened to be in the line up as well.

She was shy in approaching you at first, but surprisingly, you both hit it off pretty well that you ended up befriending the entire group. Though you did pay extra attention to her, it took nearly a year for both of you to end your pining and she asked you out.

“She’s just in here. I’m pretty sure they’re wrapping up, so go ahead.” She thanked your manager before carefully opening the door, immediately spotting you in the group’s formation while you all focused on the choreography of your song.

She was immensely proud as she sat on one of the chairs, admiring the way your body moved exactly to the beat. Even with the sweat running down your face, you still looked graceful and stunning in her eyes. She didn’t even realize you were done until you spun around and your entire face lit up at the sight of her.

Waving slightly, she braced herself when you all but sprinted toward her and tackled her in a hug. A laugh came from her lips while you grinned and pressed a kiss to her cheek then pulled away, remembering that you need to freshen up. “Sorry! I got excited to see you.” You apologize, but she shakes her head before crinkling her nose. “I can tell. You’re really stinky, too.”

You pouted at her. “Am not!” But she just shrugs, though the smile was still on her face. “Whatever you say.” She waves to the rest of your group in greeting, and they all smile at her, others waving in return before they get ready to leave. “Come on, stinky. We have a date.” Even with her teasing, you beamed a smile at the mention of your date and quickly grabbed your bag.

“I promise, I’ll be quick.” But just as you hoisted your bag on your shoulder, the door had opened and a woman peeked inside. And it wasn’t just any woman with the way Yubin’s eyes widened and you ended up grinning wide at the newcomer.

“Y/n, there you are!” Taeyeon walked fully into the room, noticing the extra person inside and noting that she wasn’t anyone from your group. Her brows lifted at the familiarity but her smile remained. “Hello, have we met before?” She asks and Yubin felt heat rush to her cheeks as she recalls the time she had asked for a handshake from the older girl.

Noticing your girlfriend’s stiffness, you gently nudge her from the side before offering a smile to your senior. “This is my girlfriend, Dami. I think you remember her from the pictures I showed you. She’s also a really big fan.”

A look of recognition passed over the woman’s features and she smiled wider. “Oh, yeah! I remember now. We also met at Show Champion and the Hallyupop Fest in Singapore.” She stated, feeling proud for remembering their past meetings.

“Y-Yes. It’s so nice to meet you.” Yubin could not believe her eyes and ears as she sputtered out a reply. The Kim Taeyeon recognized her and she was just standing there like a complete idiot.

You just smiled at your girlfriend, hiding a giggle with your hand before turning to the older girl. “Anyway, what was it you needed me for, unnie?” The raven haired woman turned back to you and clapped her hands, remembering her initial mission before she was handing you a box with some cupcakes inside. “I wanted to give these to you because I know you’re working hard, and also there’s a special stage that I want to do with you.”

Hearing this made both your and Yubin’s eyes widen at the sudden request, but Taeyeon continued. “I know that it’s a lot, considering that you’re also preparing for your album, but I can’t think of anyone else to do this with.”

You looked to your girlfriend, who quickly spun her head to look at you. And judging by the look on your face, she could tell that you were asking her, to which, she nodded immediately.

“I’ll take that as a yes?” Taeyeon asked hopefully when she saw the interaction and you let out a laugh before nodding your head as well. “Okay, unnie. But can I ask you to do something for me?” You question, making the woman laugh before shaking her head in amusement. “Of course you ask for payback.”

You just grinned before gesturing to your girlfriend. “Could you keep Dami company while I go change? I won’t be too long, but I don’t want her to feel lonely.” Immediately, Yubin could tell what you were planning and she was mentally pleading with you not to do so, hoping that you were either joking or that Taeyeon was too busy to agree with your request.

However, your senior just smiled more before nodding her head in agreement. “Of course! I want to get to know more about the girl you won’t shut up about.”

Before Yubin could even get a word in, you were already out the door and she was rooted in place as Taeyeon faced her once more with the same kind smile. “So, Dami, I hear from Y/n that you’re a really good rapper.” She began. “And from your performances, I’m actually impressed.”

Hearing her idol praising her was probably one of the last things she’s expected. Being stuck in a room with her and being able to talk to her? Now that was a dream she never thought would come to life.

“Thank you. I really admire your singing.” She mentally pats herself on the back for not stuttering. “You don’t have to be so timid with me.” Taeyeon assured the younger girl, gently patting her arm. “You’re Y/n’s girlfriend, so you’re good in my book. Just talking about you, it’s clear how happy you make her and how in love she is.” She said with a gentle smile, her eyes soft.

“I hope you can keep her like that, and that she does the same.” Hearing this made the rapper smile in return, nodding her head. “Of course. That’s all I ever want her to feel.” She admits and Taeyeon nods approvingly. “Thank you.”

Her talk with Taeyeon may not have been the way she thought it would be, but she found herself enjoying either way. She wasn’t that much different from herself, but still, Yubin was able to be comfortable around the older idol and was even given advice.

“Don’t worry about the public or what anyone else has to tell you. By the end of the day, what matters is that you’re happy and healthy. Your time as an idol will come to pass, but you have to make sure that your impact lasts a life time.”

If she didn’t think she would could respect Taeyeon more, she was definitely proven wrong with the small yet meaningful talk they’ve had. She really was more than just the responsible leader of Girls’ Generation, but she was a true friend that looked after those she cares about.

Soon enough, you entered the practice room, dressed in a pair of jeans and one of Yubin’s flannel shirts that you stole from her closet. Seeing the two talking so casually made you smile as you walked up to them and Taeyeon grinned.

“Well, it looks like you’re both ready to go, so I’ll leave you to it.” She turned back to Yubin with a meaningful look. “Don’t forget what I said, okay? And if you ever need to talk, Y/n has my number.” Yubin nodded her head, smiling happily.

“Thank you so much, Taeyeon-ssi.” Said woman just waved her hand. “It’s unnie, to both of you.” You ended up laughing at the pointed look she sent your way before lightly pushing her. “Thank you for your company, unnie. I’ll talk to you, later.”

Taeyeon bid you goodbye, hugging the two of you before she exited and you turned to your girlfriend with a playful smile. “So…”

“You’re unbelievable.” She would say, but the smile couldn’t be erased from her face as she pressed a kiss to your cheek then took your hand. “Let’s go before I end up dragging you to the dorm instead.”

Even though she didn’t say it out loud, Yubin knew she was lucky to have you, not just because you were able to introduce her to one of her idols, but simply for being the way you were.

You knew that she wasn’t as expressive, so you often did your best to tone your excitement down for her and she just found it endearing how you looked for different ways in showing her your love for her.

“You what?!” Bora’s loud voice overpowered the rest of Dreamcatcher’s excited chatter when Yubin burst into the dorm with a giddy smile, boasting about her date and bonding with idol.

“Unnie was really nice and she even asked me if I wanted to watch her and Y/n for their performance.” Her members were in absolute awe and even a twinge of jealousy. “She hugged me more than once, too!”

“If this was one of the perks of dating Y/n, I would have gone after her.” Yubin shot the dancer a dirty look before shaking her head. “She’s my girlfriend. Get your own.”

“At least let me come with you then!” While she let out a sigh, she ended up chuckling as her members started to laugh at Bora’s whining and she mentally thanks her lucky stars for bringing you into her life.
