Makes ableist jokes about head trauma and birth defects/genetic disorders to call her critics unintelligent (these are the key causes of verbal apraxia, as well as strokes. This is apparently what her OC is diagnosed with).

The only reason why Iris has verbal apraxia, the real reason why Lily made non-verbal communication seem as limited as she did, is to play out her toxic codependence fantasy of having someone who needs her so much they can't get away from her.

I feel like it's safe to assume aswell the reason why she made Iris unable to speak and not deaf is because she found the idea of her dependant blorbo being unable to hear too inconvenient.

I feel like I should mention, in case it's not common knowledge, verbal/speech apraxia can affect a person's ability to sign or write as well. Because it's a neurological problem, it can affect a person ability to form language altogether. They may be able to understand but not reply. The brain is weird like that.

Iris probably would have actually needed an AAC device. Lily either doesn't know those exist, of felt that the use of a tool like that would have made Iris look too mentally handicapped to be sexy to her.
