yes i definitely agree, I think a lot of times stereotypes and the reactions we have based on them are kind of defended, mostly by oppressed people saying they use those assumptions to keep themselves safe, which while valid, can also turn into ahte and prejudice really quick.

I think the word stereotype fist quite well, although I'd also add associations and maybe even prejudices, which I think isn't quite the right English word but in german it means Vorurteile, basically the same exactly thing we're on about here, assuming a certain type of person or other trait based on a physical or other trait.

So yes you're absolutely right, I also think that this leads to a few things.

It leads to people staying in their own groups, you never learn that those prejudices can be wrong, and so it's a circle that's very hard to get out of.

Could also potentially lead to actual hate, since some people justify it as "keeping themselves safe" that can very quickly reveal itself as a prejudice of a group of people being viewed as particularly violent, for example I think this would be pretty easy for racist white people to say.
