It’s been a minute since I’ve submitted but after the vitriol I have seen on Twitter this weekend, I felt the need to speak…

First things first, all of us are brought here with one definitive common thread - we are all fans of Bridgerton. If we were not, we would probably not find ourselves in this fandom at all.

With that being said, if you’re on this blog you are probably a fan of both Nicola AND Luke. More than likely, you want them to be together romantically or believe they already are. And if you don’t want any of that, I don’t know why you’re here reading this posts. This is how you become a troll.

You are allowed to be a fan of one and not the other. This is not a dictatorship and no one is holding a gun to your heads. But this is the point where it is VITAL for me to remind you how many times Nic and Luke have a real love for each other and at the core are best friends. WHAT THIS MEANS IS you cannot call yourself a fan of one of them while simultaneously spreading hate and contempt and overall nastiness about the other one all over social media.

Now I have approached the topic of the RUMORED insignificant others. Did you know that there is no general rule of fandom that states if you are a fan of a character performer that you must also become a fan of any performers they may date now or in the future? WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT no one is required to become Jake’s #1 fan just because the rumor mill wants to say Nic is dating him. Hell no one has to become his #1 fan if Nic herself came out and said she was dating him. Again, there is no need to speak with malice about his looks or his talent all over the internet but you do not have to be a fan. Same goes for the dancer who shall not be named (I know it’s a trigger for many around here). And if they act in deplorable ways - such as the dancer has displayed in the past - you are allowed to speak out on it while using decorum.

This is ultimately bringing me back to why I wrote this today. Tell me why I’m seeing tweets talking about how Jake is a more successful and more talented actor than Luke. Tweets saying Luke can’t act and how amazing Jake is. These tweets are from Bridgerton “fans”. These tweets are from Nicola “fans”. Based on everything I’ve written up until now, the math ain’t mathing on the word “fan”.

I’m not spreading hate to Jake. Fact of the matter, he’s a 24 year old kid almost fresh out of drama school. He has had one season of a failed show on a streaming network riddled with failed shows. He now has a small part in a movie that probably is not even recognized yet out of this fandom and extreme movie fans - if we’re being honest. Luke is 31 and is on his 4th season of one of Netflix’s top shows. He was the male lead last season and the season broke records. He was on a Disney channel show when he was younger. He was on multiple stage shows on the West End. He’s had many other roles in smaller projects and just picked up a lead role in a new film. While it is considered an independent film, it is a LEAD role.

With that evidence laid out, how can anyone actually say with their full chest that Jake is the better and more successful actor? Oh right they can’t. What it comes down to is the fact that the “Jakola shipping” movement is not based on anything more than being an Anti-Luke Newton movement and it is GROSS. No matter what they tell you, there was no “relationship” being universally talked about prior to late summer. On August 25 those festival pictures were released and some very twisted narcissistic people in this fandom took them and ran with them. They created a narrative to help dictate what and who people in this fandom are allowed to discuss online. They’ve bullied creators off of TikTok and Twitter and gaslight the hell out of everyone when called on it. A 24 year old gay man (OMG I SAID IT) is being bullied on the internet and the blame is fully being put on “Lukolas” when the truth is that no one would be paying any attention to him if this narrative wasn’t perpetuated in the first place. (Side note: if you’re sending hate to Jake on behalf of being a Lukola, please stop. Please treat him like you treat every other one of Nic’s male friends. No one should be getting hate.)

The majority of the hate and toxicity in this fandom stems with the Jakolas Jackholes and those who blindly follow and defend a certain creator. I’m not going to say her name because I know how much she gets off on people talking about her (even when it’s bad) AHAH. This is the shit that everyone else is afraid to say out loud but it’s true. And for those of you in that discord reading this to report back, hiiii!

Oh and if anyone has a problem with this and wants to call me out for being on Anon, let me know and I’ll DM you because I’m not afraid. I’m grownup.

Let's Talk Whump

Welcome to Let’s Talk Whump, a series of interviews that spotlight the amazing people in our whump community. I’m Malice and I’ll be your host. 

Joining us today is the fabulous @ashintheairlikesnow!

It’s great to have you here, Ash! Let’s kick this interview off with a fact or two about yourself!

Hi! I go by Ash, I am an ageless elder crone, and my life is built around the whims of an old dog and a very young cat. My primary hobby is reading, and I especially get lost in books on cults and new religious movements, World War I, and vampires.

What does whump mean to you? 

To me, whump is physical, mental, and emotional suffering. What causes that suffering can be any one of a number of things, and any of them might be what fascinates about the story. 

But it's whump when someone hurts.

And how did you find the whump community? What made you want to join?

I had gone through a tumultuous few months in 2019, including being laid off. I was reading and writing in-between frantically applying and interviewing for new jobs, and somewhere in there I stumbled back onto Tumblr after a long… long… hiatus. 

In August of 2019 I did a fanfiction writing challenge and the prompt for day 11 was 'whump'. A friend of mine had to explain to me what the word even meant, which is when I realized there was a whole subgenre dedicated to my favorite thing to write! After that, I started following some blogs with whump in their name and shortly after, took a chance on posting some writing, too. 

2019 you say, and yet I would affectionately swear you’ve been around the whump community forever! Do you think  your view on whump changed since you joined? 

Definitely! I was more timid when it came to what I would or wouldn't write out in detail early on. Eventually I gained confidence and started including things that delved into full horror, where before I wasn't sure how it would be received. 

I think I have come to appreciate a ton of tropes that didn't really speak to me or that I struggled with at first! Finding certain writers that really did a great job with them helped me get over that.

ANd now for the best bit; Let’s talk whump tropes! Do you have a few particular faves?

Noncon and recovery from it - one of my favorite things about whump isn't even the harm but the way a character recovers from it, and noncon can be a violation of physical self, identity, everything. So I enjoy the noncon but also watching someone rebuild themself afterward. 

Trauma recovery - on a related note. Most of my stories really focus heavily not on the worst of times, but in what comes after. How do you find yourself again when everything about you was erased? Or beaten, or broken? Resilience is essential in my work. 

BBU - I started writing at the beginning of the BBU taking off in early 2020 - I think my first Kauri piece was written in January 2020 actually. I love world building and dystopian fiction, so I never stop finding new awful details about the BBU to bring to the light. 

Creepy/intimate whumpers - Whumpers that get under your skin without necessarily treading into noncon territory. Think like @comfy-whumpee's Alistair, a master of overwhelming, awful affection and the power of control. Or @for-the-love-of-angst's Zever, a father-figure to OC Taron turned captor. 

Shades of gray - whumpees who weren't the good guys, but who have been forced to struggle and suffer. I like writing, and reading, imperfect people who are trying to make themselves better than they've been, or bad people who have their reasons who run into someone they can't get away from. 

Hype time! Do you have a few pieces of your favourite work that you’d like to share?

This is so hard! Oh my gosh. I need to think about this. 

Haunted - a Kauri piece. The way this one delves into the emptiness of Kauri from someone else's perspective… there are some metaphors in here I am really proud of. 

Blood, Freely Given - a vampire walks into a hospital. God, I love when I get the chance to work in a more horror-centered space. This one is lyrical and I love it.

I’m Here - a boy remembers everything he was made to forget. This was maybe the most intense thing I've written. It is disjointed and chaotic and I adore it.

Oh my god! I am obsessed with Blood, Given Freely’s vibes! Creepy but somehow tugging at my emotions- damn! Do you have a particular writing routine?

My best writing happens in a coffeeshop with a pastry and a latte on hand! I almost always sit down and put on a playlist based on whichever story, then write out a whole piece on two or three hours. Then I spend a day or two editing and cleaning up, then post. 

I used to try to write once or twice a week. Lately that's fallen off to every other week or even less. Life gets busy! But I still write when the mood strikes me. 

And do you find somethings are easier for you to write than others?

I am so so so bad at writing fight scenes or action. It's like pulling teeth! On the other hand, I am pretty good at dialogue, I think. The different voices of different characters come to me fairly easily. 

Can we get a peek behind the curtains and see what your currently working on?

I am half-heartedly trying to get started on a novel that I keep going back and forth on, involving a man looking for a vampire in 1926 upstate New York. But not for the reasons you think.

Actually, maybe exactly for those reasons.

I am definitely enjoying writing horror more often. My OC Finn Schneider's story is pure nightmare fuel, and I find myself thinking about him a lot. 

Do you have a joke or pun you would like to share to spread some smiles today?

When I was in high school, I decided to start telling bad jokes on purpose, as my "thing". To my credit, I kept it up for years. I had jokes I would tell at every party. They were all terrible.

I was surprised that people kept asking me to tell more.

Now I can't remember any of them. 

I mostly run screaming from puns. They are the real monsters here. 

Haha, puns seem to be very popular in the whump community, particularly in our urls! Would you care to share some writing advice with our readers?

My best advice has always been and will always be just to write often. Like any muscle, it gets stronger with exercise, like any skill you get better primarily through practice. Even if you doubt yourself, keep writing. You will look back and be shocked at how you improved even without realizing it over time. 

Try to set aside time to write. It doesn't have to be anything in particular, any one story. Write anything at all.

🍇Share the "villain" or main antagonist of your clan and talk about them! (Note: Doesn't need to be a cackling supervillain, it can also be an annoying trickster, etc!)

-For this one I'm treating the Roving Altar as the main lair-

there is not a current antagonist (yet), there is plenty of lesser evil guys but most are centered on their own goals and dont really involve themselves with the rest of the clan(s) unless someone is nosy and loud about them

Latronis on the other hand is very much the whole deal, he is the one who set in motion the series of events that would lead to the creation of the Altar , therefore indirectly affecting everyone involved in that clan, like bringing up and granting someone of the likes of Mellus the equivalent of inmortality (which allows him to continue his own crimes) or Golgoryas getting allowed to continue his experiments and abuse without consequence.

Something funny(? about him is that while in present day he is still a bad guy (stealing from graveyards and the occasional crime towards travellers that roam his territory), in the past he was worse lol.

In search of divinity for himself he made a deal with a lesser god to purify his soul via a great sacrifice; whatever that entailed, he grossly misinterpreted (out of a bit of malice to those he didnt from his lair to begin with), instead he sacrificed his old clan in an "accidental" cave in resulting in a massive grave that was meant to "bury his sins for his new life". Of course the lesser god was appalled by the action and denied his request (pointless denial in the end as the tundra ended up getting his wish thru other means, but with a worse cost)

Eventually he came to meet a lone survivor from the cave in, Azopteros (who didnt recognize Latronis as he was a hatchling at the time). While at first he took the other under his wing reluctantly with plans to getting rid of him, he soon learned that the damned guy was given the divine gift he was denied and not only that but the fool didn't even know!. This would lead to a confrontation between both but given Latronis' luck he had abscond the fight as he had no means to kill Azopteros as he was still a mortal and a cursed one at that.

1 meds its my fav andi. Love it so much. cause i like upbeat and also slow songs. like unfortunately i analyze music a lot! but i love the acousticness in some songs (like meds album titled track), the synths, and i love the lyrics a lot. for infrared, its literally so upbeat and catchy and just. uhg the stnths and instrumental are so perfect as usual. for space monkey, i love the industrial vibe and i love just the overall sound and vibe so much. but as mentioned i also love other, softer and slower songs like follow the cops back home and in the cold light of morning. and the album finishes with song to say goodbye? the amount of times ive cried to this whole album is crazy. but drag is probably my least fav in the album, and because i want you would be my second least fav.

2) Otome I would like to play

Right off the top of my head, I'd love to dive into Collar x Malice Unlimited, Piofiore: Episodio 1926, Virche Evemore: Epic Lycoris, and Radiant Tale Fanfare!

However, seeing as those are fandisc/sequels and I still need to finish the original games, I kinda can't. Not without running into massive spoilers and being left totally confused at least.

And actually, Epic Lycoris and Fanfare have yet to release in English so even if I did already play through Virche and RT, I wouldn't be able to play them right away...

Okay okay! But for a title that isn't a fandisc, the only otome that is currently catching my eye is Cupid Parasite.

Which is weird because literally none of the love interests in that game have long, luscious hair which is my usual weakness. But the art looks good and the concept of the literal Greek Cupid working as a matchmaker for the most un-matchable men ever seems funny.

And I have a feeling that there would be more going on than just cringefail men making out with a Greek deity.

24) Favorite otome

I've mentioned Cinderella Phenomenon as a fave of mine before. So another one of my favorite otomes would be Code Realize: Guardian of Rebirth, as well as the two fandiscs Future Blessings and Wintertide Miracles.

I really love the series! It did take me a while to really warm up to it but once I let myself get absorbed in the world and the characters, I got really attached. And with each entry into the series I played, the more I loved all of it. Cardia is such a sweet but strong-willed heroine. Several love interests stole my heart with their tragic stories. And for the ones that didn't leave me in tears, they were decent enough and good for getting a laugh out of me.

The side characters are pretty interesting too. Delly and Finis are like my baby brothers. Queen Victoria kinda talks down to Cardia and the boys at times but we can forgive her because she's kinda cool in how she's like "the kingdom and its people are my children, and a mother protects her children." Watson. Just Watson. He's a treasure.

The artwork of the game is beautiful too! UDAHGAEUHIAHR! All of them are winners in my opinion. ESPECIALLY HERLOCK! He may have needed to wait for the fandisc to get his route but it was made up for by all his cgs being LITERALLY THE BEST!

And the thing is, I love Code Realize so much that as I came close to completing the third game... All I needed was to read the epilogues of Wintertide Miracles and then I'd have the full stories and all the cgs... I was close to completing it and I paused and went "wait, I don't want the story to end yet. I want to keep falling in love with this game and the characters."

So I decided to delete my save data for all three games and buy other otomes to play so I could delay seeing the end of Code Realize's story. If I saw the ending, then the story would be concluded and I didn't want to imagine closing the book on Code Realize! AAAAAHHHHHHH!

I'm gonna replay Code Realize and actually see the epilogues of Wintertide Miracles one day. But not for a long time!

I just want the series to stay alive in my head with the ending just out of reach for as long as possible... That's how much I love it.

25) Free question: what otome games will you recommend me to play?

If you're looking to play an otome game, I'd suggest Cinderella Phenomenon.

It's free to play and available either through Steam or itch.io. The basic premise centers on a princess breaking a curse placed on her by a witch and along the way, she falls in love with a handsome young man, also under a curse. But even that base idea has a few twists to it.

Cinderella Phenomenon (or Cin Phen for short) is a straightforward, choice-based dating sim. And even light on how many choices you make. Not counting the Common Route (which is the section of an otome before you're locked for a single guy), you only make 21 choices total, three per chapter with a guy, excluding the final chapter which is either the Good or Bad Ending. Cin Phen is also nice in that you are allowed to have a guide, the Right Choice Indicator, to clue you in on when you've made a choice leading you to the Good Ending. It can be delayed for some choices and you can even turn it off if you want to play blind.

While I... disagree with a trope used in one route, all of the main characters and a good majority of the supporting cast are good, likeable people who each deserve a happy ending. No one is perfect and a couple show difficult sides of themselves at times but it makes the characters rounded and entertaining.

There are also dark themes like political corruption, emotional manipulation/abuse, and death. Though I'd still say Cin Phen is a pretty safe starting point when it comes to dating sim.

I mean, where do you even begin with people who are incapable of realizing the implications of what they’re saying? When I say solo stans literally lack ordered thinking beyond the 1st, this is exactly what I mean.

You know what I find most amusing though? I joined Tumblr in 2021, so just before Chapter 2 started. And the topics that dominated here were people speaking lowly of those “chart-obsessed ARMYs”, about those “infantilizing k-pop idols”, about how people should watch full unedited original content, about how k-pop fans shouldn’t have a saviour complex, about the privilege BTS have as Korean men, about how toxic fans lean into parasocial attachments in k-pop, about fans lacking boundaries, etc… This was the dominant discourse in this space always said in a tone where the people in these fringe spaces relative to the main OT7 ones, felt they were above all that. Only for Chapter 2 to start and almost every single one has done an aboutface.

Now practically all these people are significantly much more chart-obsessed than any chartmy I’ve seen ever, it’s like they picked up the tactics (the how) without any understanding of the why, when, and where ARMYs employed those tactics, and intensified it. These are the people now hyping up edits that victimize their fave, constantly wanting to play saviour and inserting themselves into the relationships between the members to assume malice, envy, or hate, all to further the idea that everyone in the group hates their fave, is using them for their own selfish needs, and only their fave is the most selfless sacrificial lamb for the ‘temporary experiment’ that is BTS. In spite of all the footage we have, in spite of what their supposed sacrificial lamb has said and keeps saying… in spite of everything, they choose to insult their fave all in a bid to justify their hate of the rest.

It’s amusing to me because everybody else can tell exactly what this is. We all know the types of groups of people, across various backgrounds, cultures, religions, times, who fall into these exact kind of thought patterns. I promise you, for solo stans it doesn’t just end in k-pop - their underlying beliefs extend to how they see the world at large. And that’s how I know there’s nothing to be done for people like this unless they completely detach. They’ve become too sucked in and are the sorts for whom k-pop will consume everything about them. But that same reason is why they won’t leave, and will only become more and more toxic, further poisoning their own experience within fandom and that of everyone who comes into contact with them.

I keep saying, for BTS, the people who think the least about their faves are their solo stans. And over the three-ish years I’ve been answering asks in this space, it’s clear PJMs are no exception.

Thankfully, Jimin remains fairly insulated from the madness that happens in fandom. He’s focused on advancing his career and all the guys constantly remind everybody that they are in fact in this together and they intend to keep it that way. Speaking of which, Taehyung hyping up 3D was so cute! The way he was saying he loved it almost made me rethink my initial view of the song. And while 3D is growing on me (tbf), I still want to hear more from JK, something that actually wows me. Fingers crossed at least one of the new 8 tracks has something there for me.

Lol anyway thanks (kinda) for sending me that, it did make me chuckle. I say kinda because while it’s a tweet that does prove my point about how akgaes view their fave, I didn’t feel it was worth it seeing the extent of their abuse of other members in the quotes. All of their talking points I’ve heard before and so I’m not sensitive to it, but it’s still kinda unpleasant to see these people be extremely abusive to the members completely unprovoked. It’s like entering a den filled with raving, unwashed lunatics looking for anything to tear apart.

Just unpleasant. So I’d prefer if next time, rather than show and tell with a link, you just describe what you mean without a link to that insanity.

In my Masterlist post where I talk about hate in the BTS fandom, I refer to clips exactly like what PJMs are spreading now to victimize Jimin and incite hatred on other members. Every. Single. Member in BTS has clips like that about them, where they're being immature or cattish, towards the others. Including Jimin. It's an age-old akgae tactic to add up these clips into compilations to create a narrative about their chosen member, it's exactly what shippers do as well and taekookers are the worst offenders, and is also the reason why ARMYs keep insisting that new fans go back to BTS's old content and watch all of it in full. If you're educating yourself on BTS based on clips circulated by akgaes or shippers you've already lost the plot.

Wouldn't really know how to rank them but I can try :P

Eggman: funnily enough, it was Colors that made me realize "huh, he's actually a pretty good villain" lmao, so thanks Colors! Full of himself, iconic style, charismatic, he will destroy an ancient civilization site to take down his enemy and then build a circus in the same game (some of the games do a bang up job of displaying his personality without words!), proof that you can be both goofy and a serious threat.

Dahlia Hawthorne: absolutely my fave AA villain <3 she's petty and not even the final murderer, yet under her "cute girl who's secretly a bitch" façade lies an actual, scary demon, who doesn't even let death stop her from spreading her utter malice. Not even after Mia beautifully lays down how she's actually a miserable pathetic creature (which she is), does her creepy factor diminish.

Annie Wilkes: yeah an odd choice maybe, but Misery is one of my favorite books and Annie has so much presence and I was legit scared of her while reading. It's almost funny how she's essentially a parody of over-the-top entitled fans, and oh boy things did not get better since the '80s :)

Griffith: what can you say about this complex, tragic piece of shit? You can see him in many ways, you can blame him or forgive him depending on how much you believe in the effects of fate, he's mostly rememebered as "that asshole who raped Casca into insanity" but the arc he went through to get to that low point is only one of the many reasons the Golden Age arc is iconic. I like to see him as a stunted manchild who longed for human contact but his only way to get it was through control :)

Azula: nowadays I think she'd be treated more sympathetically due to her being a 14 yo girl raised by a monstruous dictator, but still, she starts off as a genuinely scary threat compared to the sympathetic Zuko, and her plan to take over the Earth Kingdom is actually clever ("don't flatter yourself, you were never even a player", fucking destroyed), but by the end of Book 3 you feel nothing but pity for the scared little girl with mommy issues she actually is.

Blue Diamond: she's always been my favorite of the Diamonds, and not just because she's beautiful :P she comes off as the "nice" Diamond, especially when juxtaposed to Yellow, and she has a soothing yet intimidating aura around her. But she's actually deeply selfish and callous, literally dragging everyone in her grief - her power immobilizes you with sheer sadness, it's almost scary - and she said she loved Pink a lot but she wasn't above abusing her. I find her fascinating. (I also like Yellow a lot for the opposite reasons: she has more redeeming qualities than one might think).

Beatrice Horseman: does she count? I'll count her. I hated her guts ever since S2E1, where she calls Bojack to outright tell him "you were born broken and there's nothing you can do about it", but then S4 comes around and man, does it recontexualize all the evil she did to Bojack. Not to the point of forgiving her (although Bojack's last moment of compassion gets me), but the entire situation, from her own childhood trauma to how she coped with it, is devastating, an excellent portrayal of the cycle of abuse.

Weil: at the cost of repeating myself, he's just a spiteful monster with zero redeeming qualities (dude manipulates two babies to do his evil bidding and it doesn't even scratch the surface), fully convinced that it's his own humanity who makes him such a monster, and you want him dead so badly

(shout out to Copy X, who is more minor than Weil but I like his concept a lot and I find him pathetic in a good way, super underrated and good thing he wasn't the real X turned evil)

Dracula: started off as a homage to horror movies, became a nearly Berserk-esque figure of a dark lord fated to die at the hands of his old friend's descendants and be brought back by humanity's darkest desires. You almost feel sorry for him and how he's nearly forced to be a monster... if it wasn't for his utter selfishness and petty spite against God that were there long before he became an avatar of Chaos.

Isaac: obviously :P minor villain that he is, he's an absolute delight, both an over the top petty asshole of a simp whose motivation is simply "make Hector suffer", and a tragic victim who did not deserve to see his whole life shatter in the span of a few minutes. Again, you'd feel very badly about him, and then you remember how he dangled Rosaly's head in front of Hector. Also Liam O'Brien <3

the other thing about the crows "discourse" is that on a more doylist note, eric heisserer brought the characters into shadow and bone SPECIFICALLY because he LOVED THEM FIRST and Insisted to netflix that he was not going to helm a shadow and bone adaptation that didn't feature these characters.

i get the apprehension and disappointment of not seeing a 1-to-1 blow-by-blow of the book events on the screen but the crows' involvement is not being done out of malice and CERTAINLY isn't being done by showrunners who don't like / care about / understand them. they're in this timeline Because The Creators Adore Them.

again, i won't know if i like this season until i see this season, but like. c'mon. of COURSE show pacing and events will be different from the books. that does not automatically mean that it's all going to suck or that every change is being done in bad faith or as a 'cash grab' or Whatever other negativity i've seen thrown around thus far.

as an example: kaz backstory might seem rushed based on the book timeline, given that we're nowhere near the ice court plot yet. but on a narrative structural level, you learn about it midway through six of crows -- learning about it midway through the second season of a television show where he's introduced in ep1 is Right On Pace. it's not only fine but also GOOD.

you do not need to doommonger about this for a full month before we see where the showrunners are going with it. everything up to this point has indicated that they're perfectly competent and capable writers/directors who give a lot of shits about themes and tales well told. i'm not even like a celebrity stan or anything, like, if i don't end up liking it i'll say To Hell With 'Em, but just. jst

we don't need to approach everything in bad faith looking for stuff to be upset about. it is Literally Fine. your faves are Literally Fine. adapting canon events to better suit a television format n pacing is Literally Fine. okay???

Don’t worry anon, I absolutely love Scara!! He’s one of my fave characters in the whole game, I’ve been saving for him since he first showed up and I adore writing for him 💕💕

He really doesn’t get you at first

He hasn’t said a single nice thing to you since you’ve known him, yet you consistently come back to greet him with that smile and ask about his day. It aggravates him

Scaramouche has tried everything; yelling at you, insulting you, threatening you, he’s even tried the silent treatment

Yet you’ve never once dropped your happy attitude towards him. You’re always warm and kind to him, considerate to not overstepping any boundaries but also never buckling under his insults

Slowly, he grows to crave the kindness you show him. He’s grumpy if you don’t smile at him and gets extra snappy if you don’t rush to greet him like usual

Any changes in your attitude towards him are carefully analysed by Scara. He’d never dare to admit it, but he’s worried that his rude and sometimes downright cruel attitude towards you might affect your willingness to show him kindness and he’s terrified of the day that you don’t want to talk to him anymore

Which is why you might be able to sense a bit less bite in his words every time he speaks to you, until anything he says just feels like an empty threat. There’s none of the malice that used to be there, but he still insists upon making mean remarks to keep up the pretence that he doesn’t care for you

And his softer demeanour has rewarded him with more time to spend with you. Because he’ll actually respond to things you say or ask him with a few insults chucked in for good measure, Scara can actually hold full conversations with you and he can sense that you’re genuinely enjoying his company

It feels.. nice. He’s made a genuine connection with someone, let someone in, and they haven’t hurt him

Of course, now you’re obligated to spend much more time with Scara. He’s a bit clingy because of his craving for attention and validation, which leads to you getting to accompany him to many places. And sometimes that includes meetings with other harbingers

Although, that quickly stopped once you attempted to befriend them as well. Scaramouche doesn’t intend to compete for his spot as your favourite harbinger, so he simply doesn’t allow you to interact with them anymore

It’s kind of cute watching him desperately attempt to shoo Childe out of your vicinity whenever he decides to drop by. But don’t tell him this, and certainly never ask if he’s jealous or Scara will spend hours lobbing empty insults your way and sulking. Although, that’s cute too in its own way

Hi! You know me, but this my first time in your ask box! I'm not sure if you've done this already, but in terms of the single joke we all love for Sephiroth that is 10000% untrue, IF his eyes actually widened like a cat's when he's happy or excited, how do the other Firsts react to seeing it for the first time? Poor Sephiroth probably gets flustered as hell getting mocked or persistent questions for the ONE thing he hid from the cameras (because he hates photos. Leave him alone)

Can either be a short story of the first time it happened or a list of headcanons, I'm down for either! I love your writings!

Sephiroth's cat eyes are easily my fave feature about him. So unique! And for as unsettling as they are, they also give way to so many completely ridiculous scenarios.

-Angeal and Genesis noticed it within seconds of meeting him. Angeal, in all honesty, was kind of freaked out. They aren't human eyes after all. Genesis was mostly just kind of dazzled. So pretty. Otherworldly. Like some kind of supernatural entity.

-And then they do the cat thing and they both start laughing their asses off.

-Sephiroth's eyes shift whenever he's trying to focus. He can see in the dark and they are very useful for that. They're also good at detecting hidden enemies. BUT they also enlarge to HUGE proportions whenever he's happy, excited, or just really curious about something. It's freaky for newbies and completely adorable for his friends.

-He can't do it on command. If you try to force him into doing it, you will get angry slit eyes of DOOM.

-There have been several times where he's given a big commanding dramatic speech and his stupid eyes have completely ruined the moment and tone.

-Flashy photos are definitely a no. Not just because of the sensory overload or pupil changes but because he also associates it with whenever Hojo's inspecting him, constantly shining shit in his face.

-Seeing those eyes glowing in the dark is probably the thing nightmares are made of.

-Seph's pupils shift slightly throughout the day. Because he's mildly nocturnal and his thoughts and energy are more active after nightfall, his pupils are more inclined to get rounder sometime after midnight.

-As a complete crack-canon, Genesis likes working him up, staying up late and either goading him on or way overhyping him until he's in full zoomie mode, eyes blown, running marathons around the building.

-After his "death" and subsequent merge with Jenova, his pupils stop shifting, nor does he blink. It's like his eyes are completely frozen, locked in the same perpetual stare of complete and total malice.

The "Younger more beautifull queen'' prophecy is strait out of the Snowhite, i always found it funny how people almost always releate this prophecy with Margeary Tyrell, Dany and even Arya but rarely with Sansa who of all these girls has the biggest conection with the fairy tales and with Cersie

People read the words "younger and more beautiful" and think it's a badge of validation. If their fave is the YMBQ, they are the prettiest and a queen and they win! You know, feminism!

But I'm not sure it's supposed to be Sansa. I think it's a twist.

To copy from another trap snapping shut:

The trick is in the timing.

This is the prophecy in her memory:

"Aye." Malice gleamed in Maggy's yellow eyes. "Queen you shall be . . . until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear." (AFFC, Cersei VIII)

This is her interpretation of it:

"It is just . . . the maegi knew how many children I would have, and she knew of Robert's bastards. Years before he'd sired even the first of them, she knew. She promised me I should be queen, but said another queen would come . . ." Younger and more beautiful, she said. ". . . another queen, who would take from me all I loved." (AFFC, Cersei VIII)

This younger and more beautiful queen actually sounds kind of sinister to me. Cersei loves her children, and apart from Joffrey, who was all of 13 and should never have been allowed to hold as much power as he did, they are innocent and kind people. Taking them from Cersei, i.e. killing them, is not exactly an admirable thing. Is this the role of a heroic character?

Sansa obviously was used in Joffrey's murder, but she didn't choose to kill him, and she is horrified by what transpired and her unwilling involvement. Tommen and Myrcella are not in danger from her at all.

The fact that Maggy's eyes gleamed with malice suggests to me that the prophecy is deliberately misleading and primarily meant to hurt Cersei, who had treated her with arrogant contempt. In this she absolutely succeeds, since Cersei's desire to forestall the prophecy causes her to take risks and hasten her own undoing.

In the prophecy, GRRM separates the YMBQ from Maggy's general confirmation with his trademark Ellipsis Of Significance.

The other two questions get elaborations but no such treatment.

“When will I wed the prince?” she asked. “Never. You will wed the king.”

and

“Will the king and I have children?” she asked. “Oh, aye. Six-and-ten for him, and three for you.”

Those are the ones we know are true, so does Cersei.

But the middle one?

"Aye." Malice gleamed in Maggy's yellow eyes. "Queen you shall be . . . until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear."

This one has a threat built into it.

Or a lie. Or a trick.

Cersei responds with this:

Anger flashed across the child’s face. “If she tries I will have my brother kill her.”

Which is interesting in this context:

The old woman was not done with her, however. “Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds,” she said. “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”

Which is, of course, explained as this:

“Tyrion is the valonqar,” she said. “Do you use that word in Myr? It’s High Valyrian, it means little brother.” She had asked Septa Saranella about the word, after Melara drowned. Taena took her hand and stroked it. “This was a hateful woman, old and sick and ugly. You were young and beautiful, full of life and pride. (...) This creature dared not strike you, because of who you were, so she sought to wound you with her viper’s tongue. (AFFC, Cersei IX)

A Cersei young and beautiful. And cruel and spiteful. A Viper's tongue that wounds?

"Ser Gregor." Qyburn shrugged. "I have examined him, as you commanded. The poison on the Viper's spear was manticore venom from the east, I would stake my life on that." (...) So if we take a turn to manipulation and metaphors:

Cersei favored him with a smile; she liked a bit of wit, so long as she was not its target. "Ser Gregor perished of his wounds, just as Grand Maester Pycelle foretold." Pycelle harrumphed and eyed Qyburn sourly. "The spear was poisoned. No man could have saved him." (AFFC, Cersei IV)

Dying of a slow-working poison, as foretold.

Cersei even makes the connection herself:

Instead he gave me Robert, and Maggy's curse bloomed like some poisonous flower.  (AFFC, Cersei V)

And again:

That was the right answer. "First you must confess your treason. A man's sins can poison his soul if left to fester. I know it must be hard for you to live with what you've done. It is past time that you rid yourself of your shame." (AFFC, Cersei IX)

I think Cersei is the younger, more beautiful queen. Maggy knew her for what she was and poisoned her with a self-fulfilling "prophecy". She said a younger and more beautiful queen would come. She never said when. She was there all along.

As for the valonqar, in this instance, she might actually be right, but not fully. If Tyrion is involved in her death (likely very metaphorically and with a twist), she will have nurtured his hatred of her all her life.

Y’all have some MIXED reviews on this set… Let me prefs this post by saying, this is the first and only book set I have read. I finished all 5 books in about 2 months- which is a big deal to me. I just wanted to give MY opinion on this series for anyone considering to start 🤗

This set has 2 parts:

Fave book // A Touch of Malice

This book is strictly a modern day story about Hades x Persephone, how they met, fell in love, and fight for their relationship. Many reviews I’ve seen have been disappointed at the lack of connection/growth in secondary characters- such as Hermes, Apollo, Sybil, Aphrodite, etc. While I would love to read a full book on Hermes, that is not what this story is about (I want to say Scarlett St. Claire is working on writing more books on the Divine😆)

I’ve realized a lot of people find Persephone to be annoying, childish, reactive, and impulsive. While I hear you (and felt that way in the 1.5 books), we gotta giver her *some* slack. To me, A Touch of Darkness is really a “coming of age” adult plot. Is it even fair to compare a 22 year old woman who was kept captive by her mother her whole life, only having a chance in the real world for a few years, to a God who’s lived many millennia? I admit, some of her actions in the first few books pissed me off, but I personally think she gained some major growth by ATOM.

Lastly, whoever has a problem with “too many s🥵x scenes” can get f🌶️cked. Literally. 🤣 Okay, yea there were probably a few “unneeded” interactions, a few copy-paste positions, but truly, I think it got a lot better in variation + meaning by the last book imo. But girl, don’t tell me if you had an opportunity with HADES, you wouldn’t jump on that thang for dayyyyys???

Melissa Podebrat from Beware the villainess :

A badass girlboss like I like them. It's refreshing to have a character who call out the toxic romance trope for a change. The story she is from also motivated me to launch my own.

Izumi Yuu from Shikimori san :

Adorable baby boy. I need to have more male lead in het romance so much. He's just so precious!

Decim from Death Parade :

A precious boy too! Don't focus on his cold gaze he is actually as kind as his job allow him to be, very considerate and curious.

Osomatsu Matsuno from Osomatsu san :

His love for his brother is heartwarming even if it go into the dependant territory with him. He have so much issues but he make it up by his charming personality that let him get away with a lot of bullshit. The second episode of the show really started my interest in him and now he's one of my favorite character.

Fumi Nishioka from Queen's Quality/QQ sweeper :

My favorite shojo heroine. Her evolution and determination to face her destiny is so inspiring, especially as someone who struggle with her mental health. The manga is actually a positive take on it.

Spanner from KHR :

My first anime crush. His passion about cybernetic and mechanic bewitched me. The man almost took a it to protect his computer!

Mineo Enomoto from Collar x Malice :

Favorite love interest from otome game ever! He's just so funny and a bit pathetic it's so charming. He get flustered easily and always get himself into stupid situation out of his control!

Rosa from Tears of Themis :

My favorite otome game heroine! She's so smart, interesting and beautiful at that! No wonder why four men fell for her! Maybe I am a little too lol. But really she's such a refreshing character to play, it's mostly because of her that I started to play at all!

Itadori Yuuji from Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuuji !!! I couldn't resist to his sunshine personality, how from the get go he is full of energy and goodwill. I just want to protect him (from Gege)

Awful terrible man. I will get him someday. More seriously, I love how he is just evil and there for the kick of getting distracted by getting everyone miserable. I didn't like a villain this much since the one from KHR! I want to see his past at the Heian era too!
