"Lost and Found" (1).
Summary: Taking place during the dawn of the age of quirks, after the death of their family, Tenko and his younger brother, Izuku, are left to die on the streets. All for One-who has not yet claimed that title-likes to people watch. He’s always been especially observant of those in need.
These two things are related.
Based on chapter 20 of my Dad December story. Hope you all enjoy :D!!
Tw: child neglect, mention of torture, blood, off-screen/implied death, and whatever trauma comes with living during the dawn of the age of quirks.
--
Silence.
He can’t breathe.
He can’t move.
“Momma!” Someone cries out.
Tenko knows that voice. He knows that voice. How does he know that voice?
He forces himself to move towards the wreckage, skin sticky with blood and covered in dust. He can’t place the voice that’s crying out. It’s familiar. Really familiar, but their name feels just outside his reach.
The house is less than ten feet away, but with how slow everything feels to him, it might as well be on a different planet. Tenko’s mouth is dry, and his body is shaking. The earlier adrenaline is gone. Replaced with a need to run. To escape.
But there’s someone here that’s calling out for help that will never arrive.
He can’t really remember why no one will help them. (He can’t really remember most things right now. Tenko feels like a zombie, pushing forward only on base instinct).
“Momma!” The voice calls again. It motivates Tenko. He stumbles over the wreckage, following it. Glass crunches under his bare feet, digging into soft skin. Bloody footprints trail across cracked floors and fallen walls.
The pain doesn’t register to him.
Eyes blank, Tenko starts to dig through piles of drywall. The voice grows louder, less muffled. Black hair pokes through the rubble.
Summoning his last bit of strength, Tenko throws a large piece of drywall off whoever’s trapped underneath. His hands are dry, cracked, and bleeding (much like the rest of him). He scratches them.
The pain doesn’t register to him.
His eyes are blank, not unseeing, but they might as well be for all he’s actually processing. Tenko stares down into the hole.
Big green eyes stare up at him, scared and confused. Tenko looks upon the tinier being curled up below him. He takes in their wild dark curls and freckles in the shape of twin constellations and all the different emotions that seem to pass through their eyes in the space of a single moment.
“Tenchan!” The small being yells, somehow still recognizing him despite all the blood and gore covering Tenko.
And he breaks. Falling apart, as he pulls his only surviving family member out. Wave after wave of pain hits him, like a semi-truck. He holds Izuku close, sobbing into his hair (full of dust much like everything else).
He wails, nails digging into the flesh on his brother’s arm. Izuku lets him, clinging just as tightly to Tenko. They’ll have to leave soon. One of their neighbors will have called the cops, if only to get them in trouble with the anti-meta ability group within the police force. And they’ll need to be long gone before they get here.
But for now, the two boys take refuge in each other’s arms.
-x-x-x-
It’s a little after midnight. The streets are empty, quiet, and dark. There’s the distant rumble of a train blaring its horn and dogs barking.
Tenko moves quietly, or at least tries to. The paper bag in his arms makes that a little difficult. It crinkles with every little movement, but it’s not like he can afford to toss it aside. It’s full of food he found in a dumpster behind the convenient store down the street. He could hardly believe his luck.
Izuku and him haven’t eaten in over a week, so finding this was akin to finding the holy grail.
He slinks down a nearby alley. “Izuku,” he calls out, keeping his voice quiet. They spotted an anti-meta group stomping down the street, torches and pitchforks, just yesterday. And with his ability and both of their appearances, it would be wise to steer clear.
“Tenchan!” His brother answers back. Tenko winces a little, looking over his shoulder. No one heard that….phew!
A little annoyed, he stomps over to the wall of metal trash cans he made to hide his baby brother from view. He moves them, angry words dying on his tongue as soon as Izuku smiles happily up at him.
(Always so happy, in spite of our circumstances).
“Got us food,” he says.
And that happy smile grows even brighter.
They sit together, protected only by the darkness of the alley and a few rusted metal bins. Izuku rests his head on Tenko’s arm, listening as he recounts his journey to the convenient store. He opens the bag, rummaging around to find the dried ramen, sandwiches, and chips he found. He even remembered to find a bottle of water.
It should be enough food to hold them over for the next month.
“Is that from Jeffersons down the street?” A disembodied voice asks.
Tenko freezes, dropping the bag of ramen. He grips Izuku’s arm, ready to bolt. There is no reason for someone to be here at this time of night. No good reason, at least.
Before he can decide to run, an older boy lands in front of them.
They scream, hanging onto one another. The boy puts a hand over their mouths, fixing them with a stern expression. “Stop. I’m not here to hurt you.”
That….doesn’t make Tenko feel any better, but his brother seems to calm down a little. “Who…who are you?” He asks, on guard in case he has to activate his quirk. Using it makes him feel sick, but if doing so keeps Izuku safe, then so be it.
“I don’t have a name,” the boy answers, seemingly annoyed. Even though it was him who interrupted their dinner. “But from what I heard, I know that you’re Tenchan,” he points at Tenko (who flushes at the childish nickname). “And you’re…” he trails off, tapping a finger to his chin. “Well, I don’t know your name.”
“Izuku,” his brother answers without thinking. Internally, Tenko facepalms. When they get out of this situation, he’s giving his brother the scoldings to end all scoldings.
“Izuku,” the boy repeats slowly, as if tasting the name on his tongue. “Izuku….I like it.”
Tenko glares at him, taking in his raggedy appearance. His wild curls and dirty skin. His moth-eaten clothes and lack of shoes.
And then, he looks down at his brother. His natural turquoise roots are finally showing, though it’s a little hard to tell through the grime. Izuku’s curls are weighed down, making his hair seem longer than it actually is.
Neither of their clothes fit. Too large for their starving frames. And they haven’t had shoes since the incident four months prior. Tenko doesn’t even want to think about what they must smell like.
But the older boy-a teenager judging by his height and (slightly) deeper voice-looks upon them with the same expression Tenko had discovering food in a dumpster. Hungry.
“Alone,” the boy says, and somehow Tenko knows it’s not a question. “No adults to take care of you. Either of you.”
Tenko shrugs his shoulders, suddenly feeling vulnerable. He’s gotten too used to sticking to the shadows. Of only having Izuku for company. (He can only imagine how much worse that loneliness must feel for his little brother).
Izuku sniffles. It’s late, and he tends to get fussy the longer he’s forced to stay up.
The boy’s expression softens. “I didn’t mean to startle you guys. I just noticed you had a bag of food with the Jeffersons’ convenience store logo on it.”
“What’s it to you?”
“I dunno, just thought you would like to know that the Jeffersons like to poison the food they throw out, or sprinkle it with glass.” The boy shrugs. “But if you like that, then by all means….”
Tenko suddenly feels sick. “But it’s all unopened food.”
“Is it?”
Izuku cries out, exhaustion winning out.
“Oh, ‘zuku,” Tenko murmurs. “It’s ok- hey!” He watches as the boy scoops his brother up.
Izuku fits easily in the older boy’s arms. His head rests against his chest, and he pops a thumb in his mouth (a habit that they’ve been working on breaking). Tiny eyes flutter shut.
The older boy turns away, walking away from Tenko.
“Hey!” Tenko runs after him.
The boy looks over his shoulder. “Come,” he says, continuing to walk away.
Tenko follows him, too stunned to do much else.
-x-x-x-
Big Brother (as Yoichi calls him. His other nicknames are less than…. savory. Paranormal Orphan being the nicest of them) carries the little boy close to his chest. He’s lighter than Yoichi, younger too. As is the other one, grumpily following behind him.
“Where are we going?” Tenchan asks (an odd name for sure. Big Brother will have to give him another one). He can’t be any older than the kids that attend the elementary school down the street. Yoichi and he watch them leave the school every day and make up stories about what they do all day.
“Shush,” he says.
“Don’t tell me to-” Whatever Tenchan wanted to say, dies in his throat. A low rumbling, the sounds of heavy footfalls, and the telltale smell of smoke.
He grabs Tenchan by the back of his shirt, clutching Izuku to his chest. His heart beats fast. “Alley, now,” he hisses, and there’s not a single complaint. Yoichi would be okay for now. Big Brother is really, really good at hiding him. Too good for the stupid anti-meta group that likes to prowl the streets. And he’s smart anyway - Yoichi knows how to stay out of sight.
They huddle together. Izuku mumbles something but stays asleep. Tenchan trembles, curling into his side.
The group leaves, eventually, and they come out from behind the dumpster.
Big Brother hurries faster down the street. Holding Tenchan’s wrist, and Izuku to his chest. They need to be hidden away before that group comes back. They tend to be thorough, and it’s only because Yoichi and him are masters at being invisible that they’ve survived this long. He has no idea how long Tenchan and Izuku have been on their own, but it can’t have been very long.
He catches a glimpse of the trash dump. Hardly anyone comes here, and there’s plenty of places to hide. He helps Tenchan slip in between the broken railings in the wrought fence. Yoichi and him found this place years ago - back when they were a lot smaller, and nowadays it's a little harder for him to slip through without effort. Harder now that he has Izuku to also sneak through.
He manages, though.
Tenchan rubs his eyes. “Where are we?” He asks, grabbing onto Big Brother’s shirt. There’s no defiance in his tone, only the frightened voice of an overly-exhausted child.
“Shhh…almost there.” He tries his best to sound patient, like his mother sounds like in his dreams. Warm and inviting.
He quickly finds the alcove, Yoichi and him made, hidden among piles of trash. No one has ever thought to look there, and if Big Brother has anything to say about it, they never will. It’s small but extremely cozy. Certainly big enough to fit two small children.
Big Brother clicks his tongue. Here.
And Yoichi answers almost immediately, sticking his head out. A garbled reply that sounds like he’s mimicking a trash compactor. Back? Took you long enough.
His eyes land on the newcomers, brows furrowing. A furious click mixed with a garbled response. Who are they?
Tenchan eyes Yoichi with an air of suspicion, little hand not so subtly holding onto Izuku’s shirt. Big Brother laughs, shrugging his shoulders. “He’s harmless, Tenchan. This is my little brother. Yoichi.”
Yoichi scoffs, which doesn’t mean anything beyond signifying how annoyed he is.
Both of them understand Japanese perfectly. It’s speaking it that’s difficult. So many different words to choose from, all meaning different things. Big Brother is a little better at that, while Yoichi is better at reading and writing.
However, Yoichi is still learning to speak Japanese.
“Yoichi,” he addresses his little brother in Japanese. “This is Tenchan,” he gestures to the little boy cowering in front of him. “And this is Izuchan.” Tenchan turns to look at him, mouth pursed into a thin line.
“Izuku,” he mutters under his breath, too afraid to speak up.
Big Brother ignores him. It’s something that Tenchan will have to get used to.
Yoichi’s gaze softens a touch, looking at the two boys. He moves aside, allowing them entry into the alcove. Though, he hits Big Brother’s shoulder when he passes. An angry-sort of look on his delicate face.
That look is nothing new.
Another angry click. What did you do?
“I found them in an alley. Alone. Like us.”
He places Izuku on the pile of blankets. Tenchan instantly crawls over to him, curling around the younger boy. He trembles, obviously scared of the unfamiliarity of the situation. Yoichi and him watch the two boys until Tenchan’s breathing evens out.
Only then does Yoichi look at him. A guttural groan. He points at them, hair falling in his face. Where are their adult people?
They have no one. Alone. Really, actually alone. Promise.
Yoichi shoots him a ‘you better not be lying’ look. Before climbing into the pile of blankets. He rests his body around the two boys. Long, thin arms shielding them from the slight chill. He lays down to sleep last.
He positions his body around them. One arm pillowed under his head and the other stretching across to grip his brother’s shirt.
Nothing will harm his little brothers while he’s here. They’re safe with him. His eyes slide closed, body relaxing. The distant sounds of sirens lull him to sleep.
-x-x-x
Tenko tries to scoot out, but the two older boys just seem to hang onto him and Izuku tighter. Big Brother (and he wants to punch someone every time he thinks of the older boy by that title) even shushes him at one point, and the other one goes as far as to stroke his hair.
He almost escapes, but he’s immediately yanked back into the cuddle pile. Tenko is scolded in a language that he can’t understand, but he’s in no mood to argue (and it’s not like he can leave without Izuku anyway), so he just forces himself to sleep.
They can slip away tomorrow. It’s not like they can watch Izuku and him forever. It’s impossible. And if push comes to shove, Tenko can just use his quirk (his stomach roils at the thought. Dust. Destruction. Gone. Everything Gone!)
A hand finds his tangled hair again, brushing his bangs back. “Sleep,” a voice murmurs, groggy with sleep. And Tenko does, clutching Izuku closer.
-x-x-x-
Unfortunately for Izuku and him, Yoichi is put in charge of watching them. Big Brother apparently has to go out to find food, which makes sense. But Tenko refuses to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Worse yet, Yoichi can’t communicate the way they can. So, he’s stuck with having to follow directions either written haphazardly in dirt or trying to figure out what each distinct click and groan means.
In spite of how skinny he is, Yoichi is quite strong. Stronger than Tenko that’s for sure. Faster, too.
(When his back was turned, Tenko tried to make a run for it, grabbing Izuku by the hand. He barely made it to the fence before he was being dragged back.)
He thinks about using his quirk, but Yoichi is nice to them. He strokes their hair, during nap time, and taught them a couple of games that only require the use of their hands and intense concentration.
It’s not long before Big Brother comes back, food in hand. He brings back sandwiches that are fresher than anything Tenko’s eaten in months. He eagerly scarfs it down, only remembering to chew when reprimanded by Big Brother.
Izuku eats his half with just as much excitement.
They each take turns drinking out of a water bottle. Something that would have grossed him out back then, but now he’s grateful for the tiniest sip of water.
Once they’ve finished eating, Big Brother fixes them with an unreadable expression. “We,” he gestures to Yoichi and himself, “have some questions.”
Tenko suppresses a sigh. They gave them food and water, so they’re entitled to a few questions. He reasons to himself. “Okay.”
“Good,” Big Brother says, clasping his hands together. “To start, how long have you two been on your own?”
“Four months,” he answers. “At least I think it’s been that long. It’s kind of hard to keep track.” Izuku sits close to him, hand finding his knee.
“Soooo….what happened?”
Tenko scoffs. “None of your-”
“Tenchan made everyone go poof!” Izuku giggles, bouncing up and down.
He blanches.
“Go poof?” The words are even more ridiculous coming from someone older. Big Brother fixes him with an unreadable expression. All-knowing. It makes the hairs on the back of Tenko’s neck stand up.
“My meta-ability,” he explains, hoping they’ll get the hint. He would rather avoid having to explain to Izuku that their family is never coming back. “It made them disappear.” Tenko stares at the two older boys, silently begging them to drop it.
Yoichi nods. He sends them a sympathetic look. A click and a grunt that Big Brother is quick to verbalize.
“He says he’s sorry for…” he looks over at Izuku, considering. “Your situation. It’s not easy being on your own. We know that better than anyone. It’s a good thing that I found you when I did. The anti-meta groups are growing bolder by the day.”
Yoichi makes a gesture towards Izuku. More clicks that Tenko can’t understand for the life of him.
“What’s his ability?” Big Brother asks, translating.
“He…he doesn’t have one.” And thank god for that. Maybe his baby brother can one day have a normal life. He’ll have to dye his hair, but that’s easily done. Mom used to do it to his hair all the time.
Big Brother narrows his eyes, as if he doesn’t believe him. “He doesn’t,” Tenko snaps, defensive.
“Sorry,” he apologizes. “I wasn’t trying to imply differently. Yoichi also doesn’t have a meta-ability. I was distracted by his hair color. I noticed it’s different from yours.”
Tenko’s heart drops into his stomach. Out of all questions….
He shrugs. “Genetics are weird,” he says. Tenko has no idea what that means. He heard father say that once to someone over the phone.
“Did your mom have green hair?”
“His hair is turquoise,” Tenko corrects. He would know. Hana and him searched online for hours to find the correct color shade to describe their baby brother’s undyed hair. It’s so pretty when it’s not covered in grime and dirt, or colored a boring black. “And no.”
“Did your father?”
“No, but-”
“Your other siblings?”
“No, but-”
Big Brother interrupts him again, a mischievous smile on his face. “So, he looks nothing like you, or your parents.”
Before Tenko can stop himself, he bursts out, “he looks like my aunt!” He covers his mouth. “I mean I think he does. From what I’ve seen of her in pictures.”
Izuku beams at him. “We have an aunt!?”
“Had,” Tenko tells him, gloomily. They didn’t attend her funeral, no one did.
“Oh,” Yoichi murmurs. His first coherent word to them.
“Oh,” Big Brother repeats.
Tenko feels a white-hot rage boil up inside him. It’s indescribable, so he just nods along. Thankfully they don’t ask anymore questions for the rest of the day.
The sun goes down soon after that, and they all pile into the alcove. Bodies and limbs curled around Izuku and him. Protecting them in more ways than one.
He waits until they fall asleep, and slips out of their grasp. Untangling Izuku from them is a little harder, but he manages.
Izuku is sleepy, and unlike Big Brother, Tenko can’t carry him. He places a hand over his mouth, dragging him to the opening of the alcove.
It’s dark. Really, really dark. Just one day off the streets and he’s already reverted to being afraid of the dark. Tenko would laugh if he wasn’t so damn scared.
They make it to the fence without being stopped. His heart is beating fast, looking over his shoulder every couple steps. He helps Izuku squeeze through the fence, and then takes Izuku’s little hand in his, and runs as fast as his tired legs can carry him.
Izuku stumbles behind him. He whines, half-asleep. Begging Tenko to go back.
But they can’t. It’s too dangerous. There’s something off about those boys. Something that no amount of food and shelter can compensate for.
They run until they can’t anymore. Izuku falls first, stumbling over his feet. He lands on his face and immediately starts to wail.
Tenko stops short, feeling his brother’s hand slip from his. He gasps, turning back. “Izuku, no,” he says. But it’s too late. Heavy footfalls and smoke. They’re here! Self-preservation kicks in, and he turns to flee. But stops himself.
He hears the very group that they’ve been successfully avoiding for the last few months marching closer to them. Their voices grow louder. They turn the corner, instantly spotting them.
His blood turns to ice, and it’s all he can do to cling to his still-wailing brother. Tenko guesses that there’s thirty of them, perhaps even more. There’s no way he would be able to take them all down.
“I’m sorry,” he murmurs into Izuku’s hair. “I’m so sorry.” Tenko has no idea what he’s apologizing for.
For killing their family?
For disrupting what little normalcy they had?
For thinking about running away, and leaving Izuku behind?
He doesn’t know. Izuku doesn’t either, burrowing into his shirt.
Tenko closes his eyes. Maybe he can use his ability on Izuku, make whatever the group plans to do to them not hurt? But he finds himself not wanting to be alone, even while dying. Selfish!
He braces for the blunt end of a shovel. Tenko’s seen them hit people over the head with one before dragging them off to kill them however they see fit. But it never comes.
There’s a wet splat! Followed by strangled screams, and then the night falls quiet once more. He doesn’t dare open his eyes, nor does he let Izuku, too afraid of what they might see.
“You can open your eyes now,” Big Brother says. “They can’t hurt you anymore.”
And Tenko can’t find it within himself to be annoyed or upset that he found them. He throws himself at Big Brother, ignoring the bodies strewn about the alley. Izuku’s tiny frame is locked  between them, but he doesn’t seem to mind. His eyes are firmly shut, which is a good thing, given the scene that awaits him.
“Can we go home now?” Tenko asks, voice small. His entire body shakes, and his heart hammers in the confines of his chest. He wants nothing more than to lay his head down somewhere and sleep for a very long time. (Preferably snuggled up to Yoichi, Big Brother, and Izuku. The security of being tangled up in each other’s limbs).
Big Brother doesn’t answer, just scoops Izuku up, and offers Tenko a hand.
They walk back silently to the trash dump. Yoichi is waiting for them when they return. A disappointed look on his face. Tenko’s throat thickens, and he forces back tears. But a few still slip down his cheeks anyway.
Yoichi clicks his tongue, pointing at the pile of blankets.
Sniffling, Tenko nods. He waits for Izuku to be put down in the center, and then curls around him. He grips his little brother’s shirt, needing the reassurance that despite all they’ve gone through tonight, they’re both okay (because of Big Brother).
“Sleep, Tenchan,” Big Brother mutters. “You’re safe now. Nothing will hurt you two while we’re here.”
Tenko shuts his eyes and is lulled asleep by Yoichi stroking his hair.

"Lost and Found" (2).
Chapter 2
*I forgot to post this...oops :/
Tw: child neglect, starvation, children in distress, and heavily implied hypothermia.
--
“Eck!” Izuku bats at Yoichi-nii’s unrelenting hands. Water is dumped over his head again, and he sputters like an angry cat in response. Gentle hands wipe away the water from his eyes.
Yoichi-nii gives a garbled response that goes in one ear and out the other. If Izuku were to guess, then it probably has something to do with baths being good for him.
Izuku doesn’t understand why it matters. If it were up to him, then baths would be banned from now until the end of time. He puffs his cheeks out. “Don’t like ‘em.”
Yoichi-nii makes a sympathetic noise. He scrubs Izuku’s skin with one of the washcloths they found cleaned and neatly folded in a cabinet.
Izuku continues to pout.
Yoichi-nii tickles his side, forcing him to laugh. Izuku looks at him, and he jabs a thumb in the direction where Big Brother and Tenchan went.
“Not nice?” Izuku asks.
Yoichi-nii scoffs, nodding. A few clicks accompany his response, which added to the noise coming from the bath next to them, makes his point for him.
Izuku stays still, listening to the sounds of Big Brother trying to wash Tenchan. Which is just an endless stream of loud splashing and sputtering. He suddenly feels grateful to have Yoichi-nii washing him instead of the alternative.
Once Izuku finally relaxes, he finds he enjoys his hair being scrubbed, the warm (clean) water being poured over his head, and the feeling of being cleaned.
He remembers when momma used to give him baths. She used to fill the tub with bubbles that smelled like bubblegum and gave him little duckies to play with. Her soft voice hummed sweet melodies, as she cleaned him. Afterwards, dressed in his pajamas, momma would rock him to sleep.
Izuku’s heart twists. He knows that Tenchan is going to make her (and daddy and everyone else) come back one day. He promised he would, and Nii-chan never breaks his promises. But still….
His bottom lip trembles.
Yoichi-nii turns him around, grabbing him by the shoulders. Genuine concern flashes in his eyes. A soft click.
Izuku shakes his head, sniffling. “I-I want my mommy!” He cries, startling Yoichi-nii and getting the attention of his other big brothers. “Want mommy!”
He’s pulled from the tub and quickly dried off. The cold makes his teeth chatter together. Tears pour from his eyes. Big Brother-fully dressed and dried in spite of being submerged in water not five seconds ago-pauses to kiss his forehead. “It’s okay, Izu-chan,” he murmurs over his cries.
Tenchan kneels beside them, still wrapped in a towel. He says nothing but grabs Izuku’s hand. It’s enough to silence his cries. He remembers how Nii-chan used to hold his hand at bedtime. They had their own beds, but somehow, they ended up next to each other. Sometimes, if daddy was gone for the night or there was a particularly loud storm, Nii-chan and him would creep into Nee-chan’s room and curl up with her.
The reminder of Hana-chan makes him sad all over again.
He sobs loudly. “I want Nee-chan!”
Big Brother pulls his clothes back on. Clothes that-now that he’s cleaned-smell like garbage. They make him feel icky, and he tries to take them off. Yoichi-nii, who managed to dry himself, and pull most of his clothes back on, stops him.
Yoichi-nii yanks his hands down.
For some reason that Izuku can’t explain, that makes him even more upset. His loud sobs turn to wails. Big Brother hugs him to his chest, but that just makes his stinky clothes cling to him even more. The rancid smell fills his nose.
He gags, feeling sick and dizzy.
Fingers comb through his freshly washed hair.
Izuku pulls back enough to point at his shirt. “Dirty! Gross!”
“I know,” Big Brother says. “But we don’t have any other options.”
He doesn’t respond to that.
Big Brother finishes getting them dressed, keeping Izuku close to him the entire time. A few times he stops to press kisses to Izuku’s face and head. They don’t make him feel any better, but he can’t voice that, still crying out for his momma and big sister.
They sneak out the way they came. The cold air hits Izuku. He shivers, tucking himself as close as humanly possible to Big Brother. He carries Izuku all the way home, or what constitutes home now.
They used to have a home. Momma and Nee-chan and daddy and grandpa and grandma and Mon-chan lived there with Nii-chan and him. Momma’s hugs were warm, and when Izuku pressed his nose into her shirt, she smelled like wildflowers.
“Mommy,” he hiccups. Big Brother places him in the center of the blankets. The loss of warmth sends him into another ‘bout of hysterics. “Momma! Nee-chan!”
Tenchan wraps his arms around him. “It’s okay, Izu. Brother’s here.”
Yoichi-nii and Big Brother curl around them. The added warmth makes it hard for him to cry, too worn-out and exhausted. He tries, though, still upset. His little sobs taper off into snuffling hiccups.
It’s nearly daylight by the time Izuku finds he no longer has any energy left. His eyes flutter closed.
-x-x-x-
Months pass. The weather gets colder to the point of almost being unbearable. The storefronts become more colorful, decorated in reds, whites, and silvers. Twinkling lights accompany repetitive music.
Christmas time, Tenko thinks sadly. It’ll be their first year not celebrating it at home. Or , he thinks to himself, looking around. At all.
Their self-appointed older brothers have taken the best care of them, but not one word of the holiday has come from their mouths. Which makes sense, given how little they have. He supposes survival trumps a silly, little holiday.
Still, Tenko finds himself longing for his mom’s homemade honey castella. It was one of his favorites, but she would only make it for Christmas Eve.
He flops down in the alcove. Big Brother left in a hurry a few hours ago, and as per usual, left Yoichi-nii in charge.
Speaking of which, he turns on his side, looking at his older brother. “When’s Big Brother coming back?”
“Sl…eep,” Yoichi-nii says. Over the last few months, he’s come a long way in speaking. Still simple sentences, and he takes long pauses in the middle of words but that’s better than nothing.
“Tck!” Tenko waves him off. “You sleep.”
The sound of rustling blankets is all it takes for Tenko to scramble for his place next to Izuku. The sound stops the second his head hits the makeshift bed.
“Sle…ep,” Yoichi-nii says again, more as a warning.
Tenko abides, but only because he wants to. Not because he’s afraid of Yoichi-nii.
-x-x-x-
Yoichi bites his bottom lip. Six days have passed since his older brother went to find food, at least that’s what he thinks Big Brother is doing. He left in a hurry.
His little brothers are curled up on the blankets. They exhausted their food sources, so he advised them to sleep off their hunger. That’s what Big Brother and him used to do.
His stomach grumbles, but he’s long-since grown used to the bottomless ache. He could go another week before really feeling the effects. The children, on the other hand, cannot. Sleeping can only do so much. He needs to find Big Brother before the problem gets any worse.
Yoichi leaves the alcove, looking at the sleeping children one last time. He has some ideas where his older brother might be, and if he can’t find him, then maybe he can find some food.
It’s risky, but he’s out of time. He just hopes Big Brother hasn’t gotten himself into any trouble. Meta-ability or not, he’s still a target.
I’ll be back soon. His words come out hurried and garbled. He pays it no mind, racing to the broken fence. I promise.
-x-x-x-
The next time Tenko wakes up its morning. The sky is orange, and the birds are chirping. He shivers, reaching over for….
He sits upright. “Yoichi-nii!?”
Beside him, Izuku sits up. He rubs his eyes with a fist, yawning. “What’s wrong?”
Tenko points to the empty space next to them. “Yoichi-nii’s not here.” He shouldn’t panic. Yoichi-nii wouldn’t abandon them, right? He’s probably just trying to find food.
Izuku whimpers. “‘m hungry.”
His words hurt Tenko’s heart. “I know,” he murmurs. “Maybe Yoichi-nii and Big Brother are out trying to find some food.”
“Like grandma’s mochi?”
Tenko chuckles, laying back down. His brother mirrors him. They lay on their sides, staring at each other. Tentatively, he tucks a lone piece of hair behind Izuku’s ear. “Do you remember mom’s honey castella?”
Izuku scrunches his nose up, trying to conjure the memory. “I…think so.” His green eyes light up. “Oh! You remember when daddy took us all to see those pretty lights.”
“Illuminations,” Tenko says, suddenly struck by another wave of longing. “He used to take us to see at least one every year. Last year was Tokyo.”
Izuku nods, excitedly. “With all the pretty trees.”
“With all the pretty trees,” Tenko repeats in a broken whisper.
-x-x-x-
Loud bangs overhead wake Izuku up. The cold that has slowly been leaking in through the little gaps in the alcove, hits him full force. His skin prickles, and his body feels tense. Tight and rigid, especially when he starts shivering. His teeth chatter together. But none of this is enough to make him forget about the loud noises occurring over their heads.
Hands shaking, Izuku nudges his older brother. “Tenchan?” He whispers.
His brother doesn’t answer for a minute, and Izuku thinks that maybe he fell asleep.
“What?” Tenchan asks, eyes firmly shut.
“There’s scary noises.”
Tenchan rolls over onto his side. His red eyes search Izuku’s face. “It’s okay,” he says. “Those are just fireworks.”
“Fireworks?”
“Yeah, they’re these big, loud colorful lights that explode in the sky,” he explains, pillowing his head on his arm. Izuku nuzzles up next to him, big eyes looking up at him intently.
“Well, they’re loud.” He grimaces as another round of apparent ‘fireworks’ go off. “And they hurt my ears.”
Tenchan makes a sympathetic sound. “They hurt my ears, too. Father didn’t like ‘em either. Which is probably why you don’t know what they are. We never went to see them.”
“What are they for?”
“New year's celebration….I think,” Tenko says to himself, as if calculating something in his head. “Yeah, that sounds right.”
Izuku hums, snuggling even closer. His brother isn’t that much warmer, but a little bit of warmth is better than nothing. If Tenchan notices, he doesn’t say anything.
They fall silent, listening to the loud booms that seem to shake the ground. Somewhere in the distance, people cheer loudly.
“It’s cold,” Izuku says.
“It is cold.”
“Do you think Yoichi-nii and Big Brother are cold outside?” He shuts his eyes, wanting nothing more than to fall back asleep. He listens, though, waiting for Tenchan’s answer.
“Probably,” he grumbles.
There’s nothing he can say to that, so Izuku doesn’t. He allows the silence to stretch on, until Tenchan’s breathing becomes heavier and deeper. But Izuku can’t stop worrying about his brothers. It’s been a really long time since he last saw them. Tenchan wouldn’t be worried otherwise (and he is worried. No amount of posturing can convince Izuku differently).
Izuku just hopes they’re okay.
-x-x-x-
Their skin is cool to the touch and has taken on a bright red hue. The temperature-as it usually does each winter-has steadily dropped below freezing. And with their thin, threadbare clothes, it isn’t enough to stave off the cold.
They shiver, wrapping the blankets they usually lay on around themselves. It’s hard to do anything at all. Even sleeping is difficult. The cold keeps them awake.
“Tenko-nii,” Izuku mutters, hands clutching his older brother’s shirt. Their teeth chatter together, bodies tensing up as if trying to conserve warmth. “I-I’m c-c-cold.” There’s a bluish tint to his little brother’s lips that Tenko is sure reflects his own.
“Me t-to.”
He isn’t sure that they’ll survive for much longer.
(A tiny part of him hopes they won’t wake up tomorrow. Tenko wants so very badly to see his family again, even if they’re angry with him. He misses them so very much.)
That night, Tenko dreams he’s floating. Flying high above the clouds. Higher and higher until no one and nothing can hurt him.
But he grows colder, shivering and shaking even in the confines of his dreams. Someone talks to him, sounding distant and far away. He tries to open his mouth to ask why but finds he can’t speak at all.
“Stay with me,” the disembodied voice says, an urgency in their voice. He feels himself jolt as if being shaken. “C’mon stay with me.”
Tenko floats.
His mind filled with buzzing static.

Tumblr media
Yoichi Isagi
I think if he’s craving attention he’d probably be a bit hesitant because it's embarrassing for him to ask (since he likes a lot of attention so he’d be asking all day LOL). In order to save himself the embarrassment he’ll usually just hold your hand and give you a serious look– if he can muster that (sometimes if he’s feeling shy he’ll just put his hand on yours while looking away). Well when he does look at you he thinks he’s giving you a serious look but surely all you see is him giving you puppy eyes.
Tumblr media
Meguru Bachira
Oh if he’s craving attention YOU WILL KNOW. He’d probably cling to you as if you were a missing part of his body he was trying to reconnect. He’ll hug your arm or pepper you in kisses and he’ll seem way happier than usual because he’s just so glad to be around you. He’s a bit ridonkulous he might even jump on you, making you both collapse to the floor, or if you’re in a place with a hard floor he’ll instead pull you towards him and squeeze you like a giant teddy bear.
Tumblr media
Hyoma Chigiri
He’s a bit tricky honestly. He has a good amount of pride so he doesn’t like to seem too clingy but that doesn’t mean he’ll back down if he feels like he’s being neglected. If he wants attention he’ll try to make you the one who’s embarrassed and craving attention by flirting subtly though incessantly. He’ll wrap his arm around you and lightly ghost his thumb over your skin or even ‘innocently’ kiss your jawline and then just as quickly as he started, he’ll stop and go back to whatever he was doing before so you’re the one asking for attention from him now.
Tumblr media
Rensuke Kunigami (PRE Wild Card)
Honestly? Upstanding young man ass dude he’ll probably just start giving you attention until you reciprocate. He’s stubborn too so you know he won’t stop until you give in unless you’re seriously not in the mood for whatever reason. He’ll sneak up behind you and hug you and start kissing up your neck; eventually turn your head so he can kiss you on the lips if you’re willing to indulge him. The kind of guy who’d just lay up in your arms and gently lay you down with him after a long day.
Rensuke Kunigami (POST WC)
Ok I know he SEEMS insanely different but tbh I don’t think he’d change all that much. He’s probably a little bit more socially awkward because for a while all he’s done is train with little social interaction. When he wants attention, I think he’d likely use the same tactic but in a different way. He’d probably nip your neck or shoulder (not painfully; he is trying to be playful) and when it gets your attention, he’d start to pepper you in kisses or lay his head down on your shoulder if it's been a long day.
Tumblr media
Gin Gagamaru
I don’t have a great grasp on this guy (despite being one of my goats 🥹) but I think he’d probably have like mannerisms for it like pointing at where he wants to be kissed and kisses you back when you oblige him. He also seems like the kind of guy who’d bring you something from his journeys in the wilderness as like a homemade gift and hopes you’ll give him the attention he seeks in return (you can definitely tell because he just stares at you as you open the gift, hoping you like it and then continues to stare expectantly when you do like it)
Tumblr media
Rin Itoshi
Imo if Rin decided to get into a relationship with someone he’d dedicate himself to them just as he does soccer because he wouldn’t want them to be hurt the way he was hurt (someone you love acting coldly towards you) but he doesn’t really know how without cringing. SO his way of asking for attention would be somewhat sweet although awkward. I think he would likely try to do some semi romantic gesture like laying his head on your shoulder/in your lap (although he’s pretty tense) or just making general contact like touching knees or brushing fingers together and will absolutely WHIP his head away if you look at him.
Tumblr media
Nijiro Nanase
Nanase is just a guy; another upstanding young man. I think he would probably flatter you if he wanted attention. He’ll probably start talking about the things he likes about you and how much he loves you, giving you a kiss on the cheek along with his praise as well. He is very aware of the fact that you think he’s the cutest thing to hit planet Earth and he will use it to his advantage!! Of course, he means what he says but if saying it out loud will get him covered in kisses he’ll say as much as you want because he’s never gonna run out of things to say.
Tumblr media
Sae Itoshi
This guy… Is a real piece of work but, like his brother, I think if he’s willing to get into a relationship then that means he's willing to put in the effort but doesn’t know how, although he respects you a ton. If he’s craving attention I don’t think he’ll even realize it; he’ll just get really irritated when you aren’t around and when you are around he’ll stare you down so hard he could burn a hole through you but the fact that he doesn’t even look angry is what tips you off to what he wants. The look in his eyes isn’t insanely soft but it's not a hard stare either, he looks like he's daydreaming or zoning out tbh.
Tumblr media
Ryusei Shidou
If Sae is a piece of work this dude is a whole project. It’s easy to say he’s like Bachira, which he is during the day, but I think it’d be more interesting to talk about him during the night. When the day comes to an end he said he “becomes nothing” so I think it would be the number one time where he craves attention and validation that he exists and you’re really there. It’s a somewhat vulnerable time for him but he plays it off like he’s just his usual clingy self and probably places himself in front of you at any opportunity. Looking down? He’ll lay on your lap. Facing forward? Well here he is in front of you. And by the time it’s finally time for bed he's completely wrapped his body around yours.
Tumblr media
Shoei Barou
It’s kind of hard to imagine how he’d show affection in a relationship buttt I think similar to Kunigami, I think he would just give you attention until you give in. However, I think Barou is probably a bit more aggressive about it and he’d probably go up to you and kiss you, then pull away just enough to await your next move. If you take too long to decide though he’ll start kissing around your face: on your nose, your forehead, etc. He’s pretty bold but he is a tiny bit embarrassed/hesitant when it comes to feeling ‘soft’ with you so he’ll kiss you to distract himself from it.
Tumblr media
Shuto Sendou
This guy is peak loserboy activity whew he is a huge sucker for being spoiled so he wants attention OFTEN. I think he probably just stands really close to you and complains about how his day was soooooo horrible and how he worked so hard but if being standoffish isn’t working he holds onto your waist for dear life or plops himself on your lap and hugs you, waiting for attention when he gets desperate. If he’s super desperate he’ll start kissing around your neck and complain even more. He even starts to say how betrayed he feels at how easily you’re ignoring his woes.
Tumblr media
Seishiro Nagi
He’s pretty efficient in the way he shows he wants attention. Since he’s the spoiled type he’ll usually try to get your attention the normal way first: acting cute and laying his head on your shoulder or on your lap while he plays his game (he is expecting you to play with his hair) but if you don’t he’ll honestly be confused at first because he’s usually given whatever he wants. At first he’ll try to put your hand on his head but if you keep taking it away he’ll make you lay down with him and literally try to immobilize you by putting all his weight on your body; will even pretend to be asleep if you protest.
Tumblr media
Reo Mikage
He’s a lot bit codependent so if he’s feeling neglected he’ll do everything he can to get your attention. He’ll usually shower you in gifts and/or take you on a romantic date. He’ll plan out a whole ass day of pampering just because he wants some attention. Please remind him he doesn’t need to do. All that. Because he often feels a bit useless if he doesn’t have time to do that. Not only does he feel useless but he’s somehow convinced himself subconsciously that he doesn’t really deserve your attention if he hasn’t done anything for you.
Tumblr media
Oliver Aiku
If he wants attention from you, he’ll give you an insane amount of attention. Unlike Kunigami and Barou, he’s very forward and will text you, showering you with sweet words while he’s on his way to yours and when he gets there, he’s practically already all over you. He’s going on about how much he loves you and how he missed you so much all while kissing you wherever he can reach you. Tbh if he's craving attention, he probably just wants to have sex since he’s not a very clingy guy so he's probably already backing you into a wall and trying to undress you.
Tumblr media
Eita Otoya
Honestly his appeal to others is usually him being the “cold but caring” type so, like Aiku, he’d probably text you before getting to yours but it’d be even more bare bones like, “i miss you” or “can I see u” even if he DOES genuinely like you he doesn’t really think deeply about his feelings and impulsively texts you when he wants attention. Unlike Aiku, he is a clingy guy and if he’s really desperate for attention he’ll still escalate it to sex if he can; just slower. Probably wants to lay his face in your chest or lap and makeout.
Tumblr media
Tabito Karasu
Oh this smartass. He’s probably similar to Hyoma in the fact that he makes sure it's you who wants his attention by pampering you one minute and acting like nothing happened the next. However he does tend to like smart people so if you’re smart enough to see through his hot-and-cold act he’ll eventually hold you and hide his face in your chest, admitting defeat but he’d still be smiling because either way he wins. He’s already got you and he won't let go until you fill the quota of kisses you owe him.
Tumblr media
Kenyu Yukimiya
He’s the type to feel a bit embarrassed about wanting attention at first but will be more forward if you don’t pick up on his subtle hints. His hints include sneaking glances at you or holding your hand whenever he gets the opportunity. He’s honestly pretty charismatic so I think that when being more forward he would probably kiss your hand and help you with anything you may need to get done or finish anything he may need to do so that you can completely focus on each other when there’s nothing left.
Tumblr media
Yo Hiori
Honestly craving attention is a somewhat rare occurrence for him so it's a bit embarrassing, especially since you two are used to kinda doing your own thing. Probably gives you little ‘hints’ like starting off by asking if you want to play a game with him as an excuse to get you close to him. Another hint would likely be him invading your bubble whether it be by scooting close to you or hooking his leg over yours a bit or whatever it may be. If you still aren’t getting it he probably says something that tips you off while looking directly at you or glancing at you like, “Do you mind me being clingy?” or something along those lines.
Tumblr media
Ranze Kurona
He’s such a sweetie he probably braids your hair if it's long enough (if it’s short he’ll still try a root braid if you want but he’s not very good at it). If not he’ll usually get you both stickers to mess around with, putting some on your face, others on various items and sometimes you put them in random hidden places as a nice surprise when you find them again. Typically this is enough to get the attention he’s looking for, but if you’re teasing him or simply forgot, he’ll lightly nip your shoulder or lightly graze his teeth over your shoulder (Since you two got together you have definitely encouraged him to be comfortable with his teeth around you)
Tumblr media
Zantetsu Tsurugi
This guy often tries to be something he’s not so he’d probably try to do a bunch of romantic gestures that aren’t his style. Knowing him he’d probably put together some poems. They aren’t very good but it IS very sweet and he’d keep doing this for a while until the poems start to sound the same and he starts to get frustrated. He’d try learning an instrument, impressing you with his knowledge on a subject you like etc. until eventually he would just force himself to suck it up and ask you for attention outright and just straight up admit how much you mean to him because all these other things are draining and they aren’t him.
Tumblr media
Jingo Raichi
He’s another guy who finds it a bit embarrassing to be ‘soft’ so when craving attention he’ll often ‘starve’ himself of it. Usually you’re the one who has to give him attention but if you haven’t for whatever reason then he’ll be angrier than usual that day with his teammates. He’ll probably give up by the time he gets home and just crashes into you grumbling about how his day has been SO unsexy. Probably won’t let you go until he falls asleep tbh and even then he still has a pretty good grip on you.
Tumblr media
Jyubei Aryu
When he wants attention Aryu would probably start flaunting his beauty, pushing his hair back, striking poses, modeling clothes for you, whatever stylish thing he can think of– he will do it and then glance over at you to make sure you were paying attention. If that doesn’t work then he’d have you do some stylish things like he might have you try on some clothes he bought you or ask you to style his hair because he is “lacking inspiration” (He actually just knows you like playing with his hair smh)
Tumblr media
Jin Kiyora
This dude is a freak, it's a lot bit funny. When he wants attention he probably asks you to watch a movie with him (You’re already suspicious that he didn’t put on Fight Club for the umpteenth time or another action movie). He honestly put it on as background noise and thought it looked boring so he’d probably just tell you to lay down with him and lightly kiss you until you get the picture (Spoil him). Can and WILL turn the movie off and hide the remote if you neglect him smh (He will not enjoy the returned energy next time he wants to watch fight club so for both of your sakes just give him some kisses).
Tumblr media
Michael Kaiser
Complicated individual, rightfully so. If he wants attention he’d simply demand it. Bye. He would likely just pull you towards him without any further commentary, he might even look a bit annoyed. If you didn’t know him you’d think he was in a bad mood and upset with you but you know how he gets. However, he’s more clear when it’s been a long day and he’s feeling a bit beat down or unsure of himself. He’d just shove his face into your back or your midsection and let you play with his hair as he conks theee fuck out.
Tumblr media
Alexis Ness
Another complicated individual whew. What is up with these codependent purple dudes who found the worst possible person to depend on? Ness has yet to find a relationship where he is properly loved and not essentially abandoned so if he feels like you’re slipping away he’ll panic and do everything in his power to convince you to keep him around. He needs a lot of reassurance tbh and spends a lot of his time in your arms. When he’s craving attention he’ll usually just be sulking around all day like a sad wet cat. Every now and again he turns to look at you wistfully and walks past very slowly like that damn homeless ant. Show him some love he needs it now more than ever ayayayay.

yoichi isagi is a known menace on the field. it's jarring for some of his newer teammates and competitors to see what a genuinely nice guy he is when he's off the field, and a young new member on his team can't seem to believe the "rumors" of isagi's foul mouth and monstrous ego on the field.
especially not when isagi is grinning at a video on his phone.
"what's he keep watching?" the young player asks, and kunigami only answers once he's finished with pulling his jersey over his head.
"huh? oh, isagi? go ahead and ask him."
the rest of the locker room groans. they've been teammates with isagi for so long that not only were they all present for his wedding to you, but they were the first people outside of his immediate family to see the ultrasound of his first child. a lesser known fact than isagi being a menace: yoichi isagi is in love with his wife, and is that one annoying coworker who never shuts up about his family and how much he loves them.
so, not knowing what's going to happen, the player asks his captain on what he's looking at so hard on his phone. isagi proudly holds up his smartphone. displayed on his screen is a video of a very beautiful woman — you.
"hi, baby!" you're smiling, and you have a tube of lipstick in your hand. "sweetheart, come here! we're gonna film a video for daddy, okay?" seconds later, another face appears on the screen. an adorable little girl, no older than six, pops up. she blinks at the screen, confused as to why her dad isn't there, but she's easily distracted when she sees you mark your cheek using the tube of lipstick.
"mommy, you just put lippie on your face!"
"i know, sweetie, but watch this." you beckon your daughter closer to you, and then you surprise her by pressing your cheek against hers; it now makes perfect sense what you were drawing on your face. you were drawing half a heart, with a short line drawn in the middle. when you pull away from her but still make sure your faces are side by side, the image is clear: the two of your cheeks pressed together make a heart with the number 11 inside of it; isagi's number.
isagi's daughter's eyes light up as she recognizes what you were creating. "this is daddy's number!"
"yes!!" you cheer, and the two of you are grinning into the camera. "play well, yoichi! we'll be cheering for you the whole time!!"
"aren't they the cutest?" isagi is smiling, the corners of his eyes crinkling.
it's hard for that player to recognize the isagi from the locker room to the isagi who is out on the field now, with a mean scowl on his face as he screams out a profanity against a member of the opposing team.
(isagi's all sunshine and rainbows and big, ear-splitting grins as he celebrates his victory, all thanks to his hat trick. he credits you — his amazing wife — and his daughter for supporting him and giving him the edge he needed to win the game.
if your cute show of support got isagi to throw out some of the most vulgar insults and most disrespectful plays on the field, everyone hates to see what he'd play like when he's actually upset.)
