Closed AU RP with @youmissedone
Carlos had been someone Wanda had worked alongside ever since her HYDRA days. While the two of them had realised that perhaps they had been lied to, they knew it wouldn't be safe for either of them to try and break free, not when they had seen just what could happen to someone if they did just that. And so, they had to bide their time. When the Avengers raided their base, they were separated, with Wanda going with her brother and siding with a maniacal robot and Carlos being brought into SHIELD. Eventually, however, fate brought them back together and they were soon working alongside each other once more.
Their final moments came in the battle to save Earth from the mad Titan, Thanos. Wanda had lost the love of her life, Vision, had been snapped out of existence only to be brought back once more to face the monster who had ripped her heart out. She had given it everything she had, but in the end, he too would be the one to end her life. As she lay dying, Carlos had been the one to hold her close. They had said their last goodbyes, with Wanda telling him that he had been her anchor before she was gone.
Of course, that wasn't the end. In her time during HYDRA, samples had been taken from her, as well as many of the other subjects. While she hadn't known what they'd been needed for, SHIELD and the Avengers would soon find out that HYDRA had been involved in cloning, with one of their models being Wanda. And while most of the clones had been destroyed before their bases had been infiltrated, a few had survived, including one within the walls of the base they were now searching through.

[youmissedone] (for Leah) 'shivers'
@youmissedone
There was a shudder that went alongside the feeling of Carlos' fingers brushing down her spine. Her head had been resting against his chest, her own fingers tracing invisible patterns over the skin after they had finished. She hadn't wanted for him to leave just yet, enjoying him being close. "Careful, you keep these kinds of touches up, we might be going for another round before I let you leave," she teased, gazing up at him with a smile. "Though I have a feeling you wouldn't hate that."

@youmissedone if you make a hc post of Carlos reacting to this scene in question I swear I'll be reading it non stop and use it on our threads as our cannon plus probably might give me ship name ideas for our lovelies (which is the ship I had the longest time)
While Jade, Carlos and a friend of Jade's Kayla were making perimeters on separate spots all connected by comms to speak Jade chuckled
"Can this get more awkward than me planting Cams in the Sand?"
Kayla:More awkward than Your boyfriend cheating on you with your sisters?
Tumblr media
"HEY!"
Kayla: what? he did
"I'm never telling you anything again Kayla!"

Rain thought almost vitriolically how, regardless of whether Umbrella ever found her, she would have never let herself end up like her mother in any regard. Being dead as damn doornail included. She thought she was far past the point of the thought instantly upsetting her, but the relatively even temperament Umbrella had programmed into her helped her build had gotten lost in the depths below their feet.
"I didn't need training from them," she snapped. "I survived six years of the shitshow out there on my own before they found me. I came across one of their vans and tried stealing supplies from it, but I got caught. They took me to a facility in Canada. It was like stepping into a time capsule. The place wasn't falling apart like everything else. It felt safe."
"I was kept in a cell for a few days. For the first time since the virus spread, I slept without worrying that I would get eaten. They told me they had more facilities up and running all over the globe, that a lot of them kept live bioweapons for testing, but it was safer than it was outside. They said if I joined their security division, I'd be living in one. I'd be doing dangerous work, but not more dangerous than what I was already used to, and equipped with the best gear and weapons they had on offer. You'd have to be fucking stupid to say no to that."
When Carlos told Rain she was wrong about Project Alice, she slowly turned to face him in her seat with narrowed eyes. "What?" As he argued that the Rain Project Alice knew was likely not defective, all she could latch onto was the "to her" part. Yeah, so she was, just not in the eyes of Umbrella's top fugitive. Quite frankly, Rain was terrible at interpreting tone, but it didn't typically matter since she was used to those at Prime being blunt and literal.
However, rather than acknowledge that Carlos might be right, she simply continued to stare back at him, idly wrapping the chain of the necklace around her fist until it snapped. In a petulant move, she flicked the amber stone at him. Not with all of her Las Plagas-enhanced power but enough to sufficiently convey what she thought of his audacity.
There was most certainly a part of Rain interested in Project Alice's story and why she reacted the way she did. Rain sat there silently for a while before turning to face the windshield again. "It could be useful to use against her," was the answer she settled for.
[Sooo... saw that ask about Carlos and clones, and it made Bad Rain wanna say hi] Rain silently assessed the man in front of her from behind the dark-tinted goggles of her gas mask. After her little dinner date in the ocean, her retinal implants started malfunctioning and she could no longer discern if this was a new Carlos or what. "...I thought you were dead," she stated.
Carlos was pretty sure he was the last man standing as far as whoever was still left inside the quickly-failing facility. On their side, that is. There were still plenty of clones running around, and Jill had beaten him to the midget submarines with whoever she still had with her. At least nobody had noticed he was still kicking, or that he'd taken one of them for himself. He barely knew how to work it, but right now it was his only chance. The failing facility was quickly flooding from every angle, so he had to get out of there fast.
Alice and the others were long gone as well - he hoped, anyway - and Barry... Well, Barry hadn't made it. Maybe that was for the best, considering the injuries he'd gotten from that uber licker had probably doomed him anyway unless they could locate some of the antivirus. Carlos had stood by him until the end, hoping they'd bought enough time for Alice and the others to escape.
Carlos wouldn't have figured Alice would agree to leave him behind, but... hey, there was a child involved, and someone had to buy time somewhere. Barry was already screwed and Carlos... was kindof used to taking one for the team. His narrow escape from death back in Nevada was proof of that. He didn't blame Alice one damn bit for taking the opportunity and getting the hell out. At the end of the day, people like her and him were protectors, and sometimes protectors didn't walk away with their lives.
That didn't mean he wasn't going to try. Laying down and dying for no damn good reason wasn't something Carlos was about. He was gonna try to fight his way out of here, or he was gonna make his death useful in some way. So he'd taken one of the midgets subs, donned the trappings of his clone from whatever Umbrella commando attire he could find stored in it, and set out. He didn't know who he was going to run into, after all.
It was a while before he encountered Jill's sub, with any and all communications having been wrecked by all that water. And of course, he didn't have the benefit of any retinal implants. Surfacing so he could get out and see what had gone down, he was met with a disappointing scene. There was no sign of Alice, Becky, Leon, or the rest of the strike team. Except... for Luther. Poor bastard. Luther had been a good guy, and Carlos was sorry to see he'd met his end here. Jill and her clone army wasn't anywhere to be seen either, though. Where did everybody go?
He turned when he suddenly heard Rain's voice, of course knowing she was a clone. Any Rain he ran into anywhere was a clone at this point. He'd heard Alice's tearful accounts of what had happened to the original Rain enough times to know for sure that she was completely dead. Silently, Carlos told himself to be careful, play the part.
When she said she thought he was dead, he had to resist the urge to crack some kind of joke. That was what came naturally to him, something to the effect of , rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated or, I'm a lot harder to kill than that. But clone Carlos wouldn't make jokes. About himself... or the fact that Rain was drenched. What'd you do, decide to take a dip in the ocean? Nope, he had to play it straight.
Tumblr media
"No. And neither are you, it seems," he answered flatly, still holding his rifle at the ready, acting like he was suspicious of her for a moment, before lowering it. "Rest of the team is, though. Whatever that explosion was let half the ocean in and took everyone out. I'm blind here, save for the GPS system in the sub. No comms, no maps, no target scanners, nothing. The salt water fucked with all of it," he said, acting annoyed yet also restrained about it. "Where's Project Alice and the rest of the intruders? What about Chief Valentine?" he asked, remembering the various monikers he'd heard the Red Queen use inside the facility.
There just hadn't been enough time, though, to perfect everything before Rain showed up, and Carlos knew these clones were smart. They were engineered that way. So he hoped his outfit was on correctly, that all his major scars were covered, and that he didn't have too much of a haggard five o' clock shadow. Anything like that could give him away, and he knew he couldn't take on a clone version of Rain alone... especially when he knew the clones had access to Las Plagas enhancements that made them damn near indestructible...

[youmissedone] if i’m gonna die, i need to know i killed those bastards first.
“You’re not gonna die Carlos, I’m not fucking letting you,” Leon snarled, not angry at Carlos exactly but perhaps taking out his worry on the man as he desperately attempted to staunch the blood until the medics could get there to take over.
“Besides which, you didn’t kill the bastards, I did because you’re fucking useless at anything except blowing your allies up with tanks and you can’t die because you still need to make it up to me.”
Maybe he’s just a touch concerned that Carlos actually will die. Just a touch.

Send me “&” for my muses reaction to yours tracing one of their scars.
@youmissedone
They were sharing the back seat, all eyes on the carnage outside as what was once Raccoon City blurred among the flames and smoke around them. Jill and L.J. were chatting idly with Angela; L.J. seemed to be making her laugh with some horrible joke. For a brief moment, things seemed almost normal. The weight of the camera in her hand reminded her that no, this wasn’t close to normal at all.
After spewing her story at the camera lens, Alice felt exhausted. Her body ached, she smelled retched, and all she wanted to do was have a cigarette and sleep.
A gentle touch at her arm from the side pulled her from her thoughts, eyes darting to Carlos as he gave her a playful, yet worried gaze. Without words, his hand moved to her shoulder, fingers grazing along the still-painful scar that had formed there from weeks before.
Tumblr media
She recalled how fresh it felt, when she first woke up in her shower that day, confused and alone. Alice easily could’ve swatted his hand away, but the touch was somehow soothing, despite all the horror. She had closed herself off to survive the city, the loss of anyone else far to great to risk emotional ties, but as the two ex-Umbrella members looked at each other, it all began to shift.
I’m in a lot of trouble.

{youmissedone} (from Carlos, to Alice) " you weren't supposed to see me like this... "
This certainly wasn't what she had expected. She had said her goodbyes to Carlos, even if there were words that had been left unspoken. He was dead, or at least she had thought so, since she had seen the truck explode in front of her. And yet, now here he was. Unless she was imagining all of this. Perhaps her grief was overwhelming her after she had been exhausted from the fight with Isaacs. "How..." her voice cracked and so, she cleared her throat and tried again, "How are you here? I watched you die Carlos... no one could have survived that explosion."

@youmissedone cont. from here:
Charlotte had gotten up while Carlos had been in the shower, taking the time to herself to brew a pot of coffee and sit by the window, watching the city around them wake up. It really was a good view, the sun just beginning to rise over the tops of the buildings and casting a golden glow through the air. For a moment, things were peaceful, and she didn’t have to worry about a mission, or about SHIELD finding out how she was working with an enemy agent.
She only glanced over at Carlos when he walked in, but the glance turned into a long stare once she saw what he was wearing. She prepared herself for the usual comments, but he didn’t even seem to realize she was there. She used the moment to take in his appearance appreciatively, eyes raking over his abs and pecs. When he spoke, she almost jumped out of the chair she had dragged over to the window.
“Oh, yeah,” Charlotte said, nodding. She held up her still steaming mug, and tried not to look down at his open shirt again. “I needed my coffee.”

There was a comfort that came to hearing him support her. She knew this wasn't her Carlos, but he was close enough. While he cleaned himself off, she wiped her face and took a few deep breaths. Her body was beyond sore and she wanted to sleep for a week at least. Her mind was so full of everything that she desperately wanted to shut it up.
His voice had her glance towards him, taking in his physique. Umbrella knew what they were doing and it was frightening, but she was glad for this Carlos - he didn't live through everything that happened after Raccoon. Those scars aren't on his body or his mind. He hadn't been betrayed or felt the world decay.
Alice held herself, giving him a small nod. She knew deep down she wasn't alone, but it was going to be a long, rough road ahead.
Tumblr media
"I wish I could forget, even for a little while," she admitted selfishly. "It's a curse to be full of these nightmares."
Carlos of course had no idea how significant or memorable those words were to Alice, but he could see that she was really going through it. She had been that way back in Raccoon, too. He remembered it, even though he hadn’t been the one to actually live it himself, but that had been a different kind of stress.
In Raccoon, Alice had been running on fumes and an adrenaline-fueled drive that one only got in a crisis of that level. Now? She was on the other end of the bell curve of trauma. Instead of ramping up and pushing through out of necessity, she was coming back down, no longer sure of what her purpose would be going forward.
His heart went out to her, really. There was no quick or easy fix for this, no button to press, no key to turn. Alice simply had to feel the pain and the emotions, and process it all. It’d be a rough road, he knew, but if she’d let him, he wanted to help in whatever way he could. One of perhaps the only ways he could do that, was just by being there.
“That’s a question you’ll have to answer for yourself. No one else can figure that out for you,” he said gently. “I guess we all need to answer that question now, if the release of the antivirus really marks the end of everything that’s transpired in the last ten years. But… you don’t need to answer it today. Or next week. Or next month. Take some time to breathe. That’s the only way it’ll come to you, is if you allow yourself time to unravel a bit.”
He was sure that if Alice really wanted to keep fighting, there was a need for that somewhere. There would still be issues with the virus for years to come, in places the antivirus couldn’t get to, or hadn’t gotten to yet. And people always seemed to find a way to fight with each other, whether there was a need to or not. Outposts would need scouts, runners, protectors… Maybe there was a niche - and a purpose - to be found in that. Or… maybe this was the end of her always fighting, and she’d have to change to accommodate that shift. Whatever she chose, Carlos knew he wanted to stay with her.
“I’m with you, Alice,” he confirmed with a warm smile and a definitive nod. “For as long as you want me with you, that’s where I’ll be.” He looked around. “Come on let’s finish up here and get into some dry clothes, yeah?” he suggested, taking some advantage of the shower himself to get… whatever this slimy liquid that was still clinging to him was. Clone or not, he just wanted to feel human again, not like some weird fish in a tank.
He was quick about it, though, and then helped Alice motivate herself to dry off with the towels he’d found and get into something dry and clean. All the while he never strayed far from her, keeping an eye on her to make sure that, if she should falter again, he could be right there with her. There would probably be a lot of moments like that for her, he knew, for trauma processing came in waves… much like grief. Carlos was feeling both himself right now, having only the artificially-implanted memories of Raccoon, so he could only imagine in ten years how much trauma, grief, stress, and regret Alice had racked up. “Just know you’re not alone, okay? Never,” he added after a time, reinforcing that he was willing to go through this painful recovery with her, for better or worse.

[youmissedone] (collapsed meme) Carlos woke with a start, squirming in the driver's seat of his truck. He thought he heard a noise at the passenger door, and when he opened it, Eva, who was supposed to be on rounds with two others at this late hour, fell into his arms. "Woah!" he said, surprised to see her. "Eva what's wrong? What happened?" He drew her into the back of the truck, brushing her dark hair aside to try to see her face. "Where are the others?" he asked though he was worried for her.
“Fine... they’re fine...” She was sweating all over, clammy and shaking. “Kid broke his leg yesterday, remember? I snuck over and fixed him up. But after that attack this morning, I kinda... pushed a little too far. I was too afraid he’d get stuck or fall behind.” Weakly she smiled, “I threw up on Chase’s boot. Claire sent me to bed.” Groaning, she rolled to lay her head against him. “Everything I own is on fire...owwww.....”

[youmissedone] “ you’re not that good a liar, and i’m not that stupid ”
@youmissedone
Well, that was debatable, Leon thought. Since it had taken some loudmouth spilling the beans for him to finally realise that Leon had feelings for him. All the flirting, the missions together, the dropped hints and not a single clue did Carlos have. Until someone told him outright. Denying it for the sake of their friendship obviously hadn’t worked either...
Leon suspected that it must have been a stupid prank, after all, guys would be guys, right? ‘Oh yeah, he really fancies you’ just to get a rise out of someone. Only this time, whoever it was was right on the money.
But Carlos... cutely oblivious Carlos went directly to Leon for confirmation and the agent could have died on the spot. Would have preferred it actually, over whatever fallout he was going to get now. Carlos wouldn’t hate him he didn’t think - the guy was far too kind-hearted for something like that, but their friendship probably wouldn’t be the same ever again.
“What do you want me to say Carlos?” he asked somewhat heatedly. “Do you want the truth? Do you want me to admit right now that I’m attracted to you? That I have feelings for you? Because I can!” It wouldn’t make him feel better though and the truth wouldn’t make Carlos feel good either. It would ruin the playful banter and stupid flirting and their friendship would never be the same again.
Now there was nowhere to run and Carlos already knew the truth it seemed.
Leon deflated then, looking away. “Things were fine the way they were. You didn’t need to know.”

[youmissedone] It had been a few weeks since Carlos found Alice again after five more years apart. They were different people now, but one thing Carlos knew for certain, he still loved Alice dearly. They were slowly finding each other again, and Carlos was rediscovering his old romantic self. He left a small bag of chocolates where she slept, a note scribbled on a piece of beat-up cardboard. "Happy Valentine's Day! ~C" Was it, even? Sure why not. And where the hell had he gotten chocolates from?
Alice hadn’t expected the sweet smell entering her nose when she awoke that morning. Turning her head, she spotted the foiled treats and a note. It sent an oddly warm sensation throughout her chest as she sat up, a small smile forming along her chapped lips.
Tumblr media
What a sap, she thought, before unfurling the candy and popping it into her mouth. It was stale, but she didn’t care. For a brief moment, she’d enjoy the sweets, and come up with a way to reciprocate.
