Reading update:

AHH. So good. I read Timothy Janovsky’s first book in this series, Never Been Kissed, and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it. I loved this one. It’s about a spoiled rich boy (the titular Matthew Prince), who gets sent away to the small town where his mother was raised. There, he meets Hector, who also turns out to be his roommate (Hector is staying with Matthew’s grandparents because he can’t afford housing at the university in town). Obviously, Matthew learns to be less selfish and entitled, and he falls in love with Hector, and everything is adorable and wonderful. 5 stars.

This one was...alright. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Barista and rock star fall in love, overcome obstacles to be together, the standard. The barista is interesting because he’s at university but has a very young daughter with his best friend, because they got drunk and slept together, despite him being fully aware he’s gay. So he’s laser focused on school and work so he can send money back to them and also finish uni on time, so the friend can take her turn with her education. The MC’s posh family is also homophobic, and I always enjoy a good putting-the-homophobic-family-in-their-place scene. The main problem with this book is that it needed better editing. It just could have been a lot tighter. And some of the jokes fell flat, like...I felt like I was kind of missing something? It was probably funnier in Hayden Stone’s head.

This is the second in the Logan, Minnesota series. This one takes place a year after the first and focused on one of the side characters from the first, Arthur. I was...concerned, because it’s made abundantly clear in Let it Snow (the first book) that Arthur is very into BDSM. Since that can be one of my squicks, I was iffy on this book. Also Arthur was obnoxious in the first book. I ended up liking it a lot. Arthur, unsurprisingly, is less obnoxious in his own book, and I really liked Gabriel, the town library who he falls in love with. There are some BDSM elements but quite mild, so it didn’t squick me.

This was more of a novella, about a guy trying to get home for Christmas. A winter storm shuts down flights all across the country, and by the time it occurs to him to rent a car, all the rental cars are gone too...but then the person who got the very last rental car walks up to the desk and it turns out...the main character knows him! They went to high school together, and they clearly have History. A road trip ensues and of course they get together. Considering how short this book was, there was a lot of sex. Which was fine lol. You know, good for them. Again, fine, but not amazing.

Oh, and honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s the same person kissing himself on the cover?? I’ve spent too long staring at it at this point.

Roan Parrish is really turning into one of my favorite authors. I’m asking you to ignore the incredibly cheesy cover and that tagline on it. This book is about a man, Adam, who adopted his sister’s child, and eventually his partner (it’s unclear if they were married) is like, nah, I’m not interested in this. So Adam and his daughter, Gus, return to the town Adam is from—Garnet Run, WY (this is the third in the Garnet Run series). Their neighbor is this weirdo, Wes, who only comes out at night and never talks to anyone. Gus breaks into his house because she sees something interesting and is extremely taken with all his pets, especially his tarantula (Bettie). Adam is obviously horrified by his daughter’s behavior, but Gus can’t take a hint, and she keeps bugging Wes. Adam and Wes obviously end up falling in love.

The ostensible plot of this book is that because Gus is sad about her other dad abandoning her (and he legit does), Adam asks her what she wants for Christmas, and she says for their house to have the most Christmas lights ever. And it’s fine, it works, it causes the wedge between Adam and Wes before their inevitable HEA—but the characters in this book were just, ahhhh. Lovely. I loved them. We got to see Charlie and Rye from the previous book, which was fun, and River, who is Adam’s sibling, had a pretty decent role. Wes’s background and the reason he’s the way he is is pretty sad, but it worked really well, and I loved how enthusiastic and sensitive Adam was. I even loved Gus! A child character! So yeah, I recommend this one. 5 stars.

The third in the Logan, Minnesota series. This one focuses on the third friend in the trio from the first book, Paul. What we mainly know about Paul going into this book is that he was friends with benefits with Arthur, but really, he wanted a relationship—and when it became clear he wasn’t going to get one with Arthur, he moved out of their shared cabin. Turns out Paul is very shy and desperately loves Hallmark holiday movies, because everything turns out okay in the end, and that’s what he wants. He can’t find a man who wants to settle down and also his family is completely horrible and thinks him being gay is a phase (he’s 38).

His love interest is Kyle, who is 25 and has had a crush on Paul since middle school. I love an age gap romance so right away this one kind of became my favorite in the series. There’s a lot of angsting about the age gap at first (by Paul). What I liked a lot about this one was that these two guys really really want to be with someone, and they’re looking for a partner to settle down with. It was a change from the first two books.

Another Roan Parrish novel. This one has actually been in my TBR pile for months, and I didn’t realize it was a holiday book until recently. It’s very different from what she usually writes, but was absolutely gorgeous. Really lyrical and magical. It’s about Alex, a baker, and Corbin, a very strange man who lives in Alex’s Michigan hometown. Corbin is intensely, heartbreakingly lonely, because he’s been told all his life that his family is cursed, and that anyone they fall in love with will die within a year. So he doesn’t let himself get close to anyone.

Highly highly recommend this one. Definitely a 5 star read.

More Fence. Nothing really to say about it, it’s a bunch of pretty, gay boys fencing.

I’m just going to copy my review from Storygraph here, and it does contain spoilers, so if you want to read this book (please don’t, it was so bad), I guess don’t read my review:

Where to begin with this book. I'm a fan of Simmons' work—Hyperion is possibly my favorite book ever, and I really enjoyed the much-maligned The Terror. First off, I actually liked the mountain-climbing detail. Yes, it was long and technical, but that was the strongest part of the book. I probably would have given it a 3.5 star rating if not for the final section. I guess Simmons wanted to write a WWII book and a Mount Everest book, and for some reason he thought it would be a good idea to make them into the same book. The big twist is that a whole bunch of people died (and climbed Mt Everest) for photographic evidence that Hitler had sex with young boys—and we find out in the epilogue that the threat of this getting out stops Hitler from invading the UK in 1941. Absurd. Absolutely absurd. I was actually laughing. This book was written pre-2016, so I guess it wasn't as painfully obvious that people can do horrible things and still rise to and stay in power, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief. Also, Winston Churchill is in it, because of course he is. And Lawrence of Arabia and Charlie Chaplin show up. Why? Who knows! Why not. Literally the only reason I'm giving this book 1 star instead of like, 0.25 stars is because Yetis may have saved the main character from the Nazis.

And this was not in my Storygraph review but I keep thinking about it—if Hitler didn’t want these photos getting out so badly, couldn’t Churchill have, idk, stopped the whole war? And the Holocaust? As my wife put it, Mr Simmons, I am vexed by the gaping plot hole in your novel.

Some of my favorite retellings are The Once Upon a Con series by Ashley Poston, Heart of Iron/Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston, You're a Mean one, Matthew Prince by Timothy Janovsky, and The Bone Spindle by Leslie Vedder.

hi!! I'm out here floundering for book recs right now. Dilemma is I do love ya I will always be a ya lover but I am 21 years old and sometimes reading about characters that are my little sister's age makes me feel wacky. I absolutely ADORED icebreaker by a.l grazidei (even though it's technically ya) partly because of the college setting, also big fan of rwrb. Basically do you have any recs along the lines of silly bi romances with people like 18-25, mlm or wlw that's not Super spicy? I'm just a silly guy and I wish there was "ya but for big kids who aren't in high school" genre :)

Off Campus by AJ Cousins - also a little spicy and at times a little serious but it's bi college mlm and good and not as heavy on the spice as others

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this man loves giving any kind of gift to those he cares for. Whether it's a simple pebble he thought looked nice or the latest pocketwatch, just to be able to see the bright smile on your face when you receive these gifts is enough for him. This man is such a giver, anything he sees he'll grab just so you can give it to you and tell you that he thought of you. You have a "little" collection of all the stuff that Arthur has gotten you; pretty rocks, feathers, cigarette cars, shiny coins, etc. The list never ends. Anything that lets him see that beautiful smile on your face is enough for him.

It's no secret that Dutch is a hands-on kind of guy, I mean hell he'll praise the ground you walk on in front of everyone, zero shame. Is the camp partying after a successful job? Sure as hell he's got an arm around your waist, maybe a kiss on your neck or two. He will happily swing you around in his arms in camp to his gramophone, anything that allows him to be physically connected to you is perfect for Dutch. His favourite though is early mornings in his cot with you curled up in his chest, your arm draped over his chest as he gets to pick up your wrist and leave a small kiss to it.

Hosea isn't a material kind of guy, he doesn't want gifts or anything like that. A simple horse ride with you is enough for him, he likes just being in your prescense. He's a simple guy, anything that allows it just be you and him is just perfect. Whether it be going to a nice viewing spot so he can read to you while you lay your head on his lap or fishing at sunrise with him. He enjoy spending time with you, even if its in complete silence and you two aren't doing anything, just the fact he gets to enjoy your company is enough to make him feel like a young man again.

I'm gonna be blunt, John isn't the most romantic guy alive. He'll put an effort sure but don't be surprised if he's not exactly prince charming. He does his best to be your dream man even when he feels like he's lacking so he's started taking up your chores around camp and asking if you had anything you needed or done. You didn't think much of it at first, you thought he was just doing a nice thing for you until you realised this was how he was showing his love for you. Don't get me wrong, John will do his best to be romantic physically don't worry, but he also enjoys getting to see you relax after a hard day not having to focus on any of your chores because he's already done them all for you

Javier is much like Hosea when it comes to showing his love and care for you, he doesn't want anything physical. I mean if you get him gifts and stuff, he's not gonna turn his nose up at it but he's more just enjoying you being there with him. Especially when he gets to play his guitar just for you? Oh the man will just melt. He has songs that he wrote that only you will ever hear, it's all the more romantic when he finds you humming one of them to yourself while you're doing your chores around camp. He enjoys being around his hermosa more than anything else in the world

Sure Charles is a very private guy, it's not that he's embaressed about you; far from it, he's absolutely infatuated with you! When it's just you two, he'll shower you in compliments and words of affections when he dots your skin in kisses. If you ever feel self consious, he's the first to be on his knees complimenting and pointing out every little thing that he loves about you, how your blessed by the great spirit itself. Charles isn't exactly the same way in front of the rest of the camp (unless it's Arthur), he'll compliment you but he won't be as gushy, mainly just to avoid either of you getting teased or rude comments towards you by people like Micah who aren't exactly the most native respecting people.

We all know that Sadie is a blunt woman as well as not exactly hands on with people. Sure if you just need to be held, she's happy to provide her arms as your support but she won't just randomly grab onto you. Not that she doesn't love you, she loves you more than anything but she's just not like that you know? Instead much like John, she'll start taking up jobs for you. She most likely won't be doing your chores around camp since she believes those should be shared between you two but if you just need someone to vent to than she'll sit down and let you vent, scream, cry, anything you need. If you're too shy to go order a drink for example, she'll step up and get you a drink (not that you're paying because she refuses to let you ever pay for anything)

If he can have his hands on you he will. Especially around camp just to rub it in everyone's faces, he loves to show you off and will be your official hype man. His favourite thing is having you in his lap while he drinks and chats with his friends, placing a kiss every now and again to your shoulder. No one in camp is really tired of it, hey it gets Sean off of their backs since he's always following you around like a little puppy who got lost, your hand almost always in his. He can't sleep anymore unless you're with him, so if he's off on a long job or you're away from camp for a while, than guess what? Sean isn't sleeping and that's just a fact. He will pout like a child till he can see you again and have you back in his arms.

Receiving Gifts

Josiah is gone for many days at a time, you rarely ever know where he is. So when he would be gone on these week long no contact days, you started writing letters with little gifts attached to them such as pressed flowers or a shiny pebble or a card you found that you thought he'd like. You never knew where to send these letters, you just dropped them off at the post office asking if they ever saw Josiah that he was to earn these letters. You never knew exactly how he ever got these letters but everytime he returned, he had your gifts with him. He carried most of them around on his horse Silver Dollar along with a photo of you two, just as a reminder what he would be returning to when he came back to the camp.

Physical Touch

Bill is a big guy, so even if you're a big person, he will still love to crush you in his arms. He loves how he can just envelope you regardless of your size, plus he loves how safe he can make you feel in his arms. Nothing can get you while he's around, he won't ever let anything happen to you. He most likely won't do anything in front of other members of the gang because he's just more of a private guy. When it's just you and him though? He'll pick you up, he'll be loving up on you in his arms, anything that allows him to make you feel safe and loved in his hold.

Summary : You’re a princess who falls in love with your fathers head knight, the one problem is that your love is strictly forbidden

Pairing : Knight! Matty x Princess! Reader

Warnings : Medieval Times? , mention of forced marriage, yelling? Fluff, calling matty matthew instead, Love at first sight troupe, Moving fast bc it’s medieval times and ppl got married after like 2 days

Notes : Since this is set in Medieval times, matty goes by Matthew instead since it sounds more 16th century, also i tried to make them sound proper so there’s few contractions so some of the dialogue may sound weird! Also since it’s medieval times they say I love you after knowing eachother for like 5 hours.

Ever since you were a little girl, you were treated like royalty, granted you were actually royalty, a princess to be exact and the only heir to the throne. You were never fond of the royal life, the constant need to be perfect in the eyes of the people and to follow every order your dad, the king, would tell you to do. Though your parents adored you, seeing as you were their only child, they still expected alot from you, as you were the soul heir to the throne of Dunshire.

"Sweetie you're 20 you need to start looking for a husband, you know this, and there's plenty of princes out there who are wanting your hand" your mother said, you groan as she brings the topic up again. "Mother I don't want to marry a prince, they're all pretentious men who have the personality of grass" you respond, " Y/N we understand that but you know its tradition to marry fellow royalty" your father says. "It's a stupid tradition, and one I don't want to partake in, I want to marry someone I love, not marry someone because of their status, Father" you argue, your father sighs "I'm sorry Y/N but thats the rules". "Those are some stupid rules" you yell, before storming out of the dining room and running off to your only safe space, the palace gardens.

You walked along the rocky path that led you to the most reserved part of the gardens, wanting to get as far away from the castle as you possibly could. You finally came across the only bench the gardens had to offer, and quickly sat down with a sigh. You cradled your head in your hands as you began to cry out of frustration.

"Hey are you ok love?" a voice said, you quickly looked up to see who it belonged to, and when you saw the owner of it your heart skipped a beat, it was a handsome young man with brown curly hair and beautiful brown eyes to match, he was wearing a black tunic and beige linen pants, and the way the sun was hitting his face highlighted his angelic features even more.

"I'm fine, did my father send you to retrieve me?" you spat, the man laughed "you mean the king? No he didn't send me" he said, and took a seat next to you. "Good I do not wish to speak to him or my mother" you say, "Can I ask why that is princess?" the man asked. " Please call me Y/N, I hate when people just call me princess, I have a name not just a title that I did not even ask for in the first place" you respond, letting out a shaky sigh.

"Well then Y/N can I ask why you are crying then?" he asked, "Look ..." you said, pausing so he could say his name "Matthew" he responds back. " Look Matthew, I appreciate you caring but if I told you why you would probably laugh" you say as you play with a loose piece of fabric on your dress. "Nonsense, Prin- Y/n, I promise I will not laugh come on just tell me" he says, gently placing his hand on yours, your heart stutters at the contact.

"Fine, my mother and father are forcing me to marry, and my only options are princes because thats the tradition to have royalty marry royalty, but I want to marry for love I want the man I spend the rest of my life with to be someone who I chose,  someone who I love, but love does not matter when you are a princess" you mumble, looking down at your dress.

Matthew places his fingers under your chin and pushes it up to face him, he looks deeply into your eyes, before speaking "Traditions are meant to be broken darling", just his words alone are enough to make your heart skip a beat, "who was this strange man and why was he having such an effect on you?"

You felt yourself leaning closer to Matthew but before your lips could meet you heard the familiar voice of one of the maids calling you "Princess Y/N , Princess Y/N". You groan and stand up, "Will I see you again Matthew" you ask, " Sooner than you may think Y/N" he says, before placing a delicate kiss to the back of your hand. You blush at the gesture, and quickly hurry to go find the maid that was calling for you.

"What is it Mary? My father sent you to get me?" you ask very much annoyed, "Yes Princess, He wants you to get dressed for the dinner tonight, there is a new knight being sworn in" she says, "Fine lets get this over with" you sigh before following her back into the castle.

After getting changed into your formal gown, putting on your most gaudy tiara and tiniest heels, you carefully made your way into the grand dining room. "My lovely daughter, glad for you to join us" your father says as you walk over to your throne, which is next to your mothers, "Hello father" you spit, before sitting down. The Knights slowly filed into the dining room, quickly making their way to the tables and sitting down, awaiting the kings instructions. "Hello Men, tonight we are here to welcome our newest Knight" the king says, the men cheer in response, "With out further ado here he is" your father says before the large doors open reveling the newest knight.

Your heart beat speeds up as you see Matthew walk in, now dressed in the normal knight attire, he walks all the way up to where you and your parents sit, carefully kneeling before your dad. "Matthew Healy, you have proven yourself to be a brave and fierce warrior, for those reasons I know bestow upon you the privilege of Knighthood" your father says, taking his sword out and tapping Matthews shoulders, as customary, "Welcome Sir Matthew to the knights of Dunshire" your fathers voice booms, matthew looks over at you and smiles, before getting up from his knee and walking to his seat.

The rest of the feast goes by in a blur, all you can think of while eating is him, you've only talked once but he's all that fills your mind. You thank God when its finally time for supper to be over with, before leaving you quickly sneak on last glance at the new knight before hurrying back to your chambers.

As you lay in your bed reading, you hear an unusual sound coming from outside. You quickly put on your slippers, grab the candle next to you and make your way out to the balcony. Once you push the curtain back, you're met with the one person whos face you can't get out of your mind. "Matthew what are you doing here?" you ask, quickly pulling him into your room, so no one outside would see. "I came to see you" he simply responds as if climbing up your balcony was a normal gesture. "Why?" you ask, as you make your way back to your bed and sit down, "Because you have not left my mind since we first met" he says, taking a seat next to you.

"You have not left mine either" you say, looking up at him, he leans in closer and pushes a stray piece of hair from your face, before slowly leaning in closer and closing the gap between the two of you. The kiss catches you off guard at first, as you have never been kissed before, but you welcome the feeling of his soft lips against yours. You blush as you pull away from the kiss, "Matthew" you whisper, "Yes Princess" he responds back, normally you hate when people call you that but when he calls you that it makes your heart jump. " Can you stay here tonight?" you ask, "Darling what if someone sees" he whispers, not wanting to get either of you in trouble. "Then let them I do not care" you state, pulling back the covers of your bed and sliding under them, quickly motioning for him to take the empty space next to you, which after a minute of contemplation he does.

You two face eachother, "Matthew why does it feel like I have known you my whole life?" you ask, " I feel that as well darling" he responds, his eyes never leaving yours. "You may think I am mad for saying this, but do you believe in love at first sight?" you ask, "I did not until I saw you" he says before kissing you again. You smile into the kiss and move your hands into his curls as he places his hands on your waist, pulling him flush to his body. "Stay please" you whisper, as you lean your forehead against his, "I am not going anywhere princess" he responds back. You give eachother on last kiss goodnight before you lay your head on his chest and slowly drift off to sleep.

The next two weeks were filled with secret meetings and late nights, as the two of you fell more in love with eachother. On one of your secret meetings, Matthew took you to where you first met, "Matthew what are we doing here" you ask, confused since usually you both would meet in your room. "I wanted to go to the place we first met, the place we fell in love, and now the place where I ask you to marry me" he says, getting down on one knee and pulling out a small sliver ring. "Matthew" you whisper, as happy tears run down your face, "Yes, yes i will marry you" you respond back, quickly pulling him up from the ground and into a kiss.

He carefully slides the sliver band onto your left finger, "I love you princess" he says, "I love you too Matthew" you respond back, before pulling him back into another kiss. unfortunately your happy moment was interrupted by someone clearing their throat, it was Mary your maid, "Princess Y/N and Sir Matthew, just what do you two think you are doing" she scolds, "Mary I-" you try to say but she stops you "I do not want to hear it, but you know who will your father" she says, and roughly grabs your arm, dragging you into the castle. "Matthew" you yell as she drags you away, tears of sadness now streaming down your face as you're pulled away from your love.

"Your Highness" Mary says as she drags you into the living room, where your father and mother are enjoying their afternoon tea. "Yes Mary" the king says, his eyes quickly making their way to you, his face softening as he sees you crying, "I caught the princess and Sir Matthew in the garden together kissing" she says, your father and mother turn to eachother, a look of shock and disappointment on their faces. "I see, well bring Sir matthew to me at once" he orders to the maid, who quickly runs off to find the knight.

Once the three of you are left alone, your father turns to you "What were you thinking Y/N! A knight?" he shouts, "Father please let me explain" you plead but he stops you before you can contine. "No, you know the rules Y/N, royalty is to be with royalty not some knight" he says, but before you can respond the doors open once more to reveal your love. "Thank you Mary I will take it from here" the king says, dismissing the maid. "Sir matthew I entrusted you to lead my army and instead you take a liking to my daughter! How dare you, I should have you punished for this" the king shouts as he steps closer to the knight.

"Father No I love him please" you beg, as you run between the two men, "Nonsense you do not love him, he is just using you to get to the throne" your father says, "Thats not true father, he loves me right matthew" you say, turning towards him. "I am sorry your highness, but I can not help it I am in love with your daughter" he says, gently taking his hand in yours. "Darling" you mom says, catching your fathers attention  by finally speaking up, " He may not be royalty but he is still respectable" she continues, trying to reason with your father.

Your father looks between you and your mother, "I can not believe this" he scoffs, "Well believe it father because before that wicked witch interrupted us, Matthew asked me to marry him and I said yes" you say, as you move closer to Matthew. "Excuse me?" He says, walking closer to you both, Matthew quickly pushes you behind him to protect you, "You are just a naive child Y/N you do not know what you want" the king says, "I am not a child father, I know what I want and what I want is to be with him, and if that means giving up my title then fine. I would rather be with him then be a princess" you respond back.

Your father goes silent for a moment, thinking about what he should say next, having you marry a non royal was bad, but losing you was worse. "Fine" he says, shocking everyone in the room, "You two can marry as long as it means you stay here Y/N" he finishes. "Oh father thank you" you say, running into his arms and hugging him. "I would rather break tradition then lose you" he says, hugging you back, "And Matthew I expect you to protect her with your life, you will not go to battle anymore, you are now assigned to protecting her, is that clear?" the king says, "Yes Your highness" the knight says, you pull away from your fathers embrace and run to Matthew, pulling him in for a kiss. "I love you" you say to him, "I love you too" he responds back, your father can't help but smile when he sees the way you look at eachother, reminding him of the way he and your mother used to be when they were your age. "I suppose a congratulations is in order, i will go tell the kitchens to prepare a feast for tonight" your father says, "Thank you father" you respond, before he and your mother leave the room and head to the kitchens.

You immediately jump into matthews arms as soon as your parents leave the room. "You really meant it when you said you would leave the throne just to be with me?" he asks, " I did" you respond back, matthew smiles widely and kisses you, "I love you Princess" he states, "I love you too Sir Matthew" you say back, the smile never leaving either of your faces.

One thing I've come to think about while putting these recs together to combat the bigotry of #JesusJune has been how growing up in church shaped me as a person. From a young age, you're taught not to do certain things because you'll be judged when you die and potentially go to Hell. Don't do drugs or drink under age; don't have premarital sex; etc. Those things made sense to me. Especially not having premarital sex.

When all of my peers seemed to be engaging in relationships and alleged sexual activity in high school, I had no interest. Even when I did start toying with the idea of dating in college, I hid behind "no sex before marriage" because it was easier than examining my feelings around why sexual situations made me so uncomfortable. I didn't have the language for what I was feeling and a lot of that has to do with the lack of queer rep in media. Sure, there were gay characters at this point, but they were generally caricatures and the butt of the joke.

It wasn't until 2015 when I found a tumblr post about asexuality that things finally started to click into place. I felt a little more whole. Once I found a term for what I was feeling, it started a whole other mess of issues in my personal life. The beginning of the end for several relationships, one of the worst semesters of college, but in the end, things turned out for the best.

Seeing these bigots try to "reclaim" a symbol that's been around longer than their religion is wild to me. The rainbow means so many things to so many groups of people. It's a natural, beautiful thing. If you're dealing with religious trauma, know that you are loved and the Jesus I came to know before becoming exvangelical would support the queer community because he preached love and acceptance. 🌈✨️

Hanbin tracks him down because boi knows everybody

Gives his shoe back and they become besties and Hanbin introduces him to Matthew and teaches Woong aegyo

Yes as I said before Yujin's chilling by the well, looking at himself, singing about water and a monami pencil when he gets jumpscared by Taerae and his guitar

Said seven hyungs are not impressed by this newcomers who's trying to steal their maknae

Taerae charms them by the power of his voice and guitar

They agree on regular visitation rights because their house is full and Yujin isn't going anywhere

While Cordelia was practicing her speech, across the street, Matthew was just getting his day started.

It was only just last week his mother gave him the all clear to stay home and attend Oasis Springs High.

And it wasn't long after that she announced it was on the contingency that Cordelia acted as his guide for the first full week.

He tried to balk back at the idea of it, but she insisted and his father demanded it. So reluctantly, if it was the only way to stay, he accepted it.

She was part of the reason he wanted to come back, he just wasn't expecting to be confronted with her so soon.

But if it had to be this way, he had to mentally prepare. It had taken years for him to be ready to do it, but he'd have to lead with an apology.

The one he owed her from 3 years ago that he hadn't been ready in all this time to give her. Not till now.

As soon as he saw her, he'd tell her, and then they could start fresh.

And then maybe—

"Matthew, it's your first day of high school!" Diana cheered.

"Oh, I'm just so thrilled for you!" She could barely contain her smile. "My baby boy finally home, attending his first day of high school. So? What are you wearing? Do you have the outfit laid out?"

"Mother, I've just started brushing my teeth. Dial it back."

"Sweetheart, I know, but you can't blame me for being excited for you. Come on, give your mommy a hint. Is it the cardigan set we got you from Tartosa? You know the one. It comes with the little hat and the ascot and those leather shoes. Oh you look so smart in that one!"

"No."

"No? Please tell me it's not that Givenchy t-shirt. You cannot wear a t-shirt on the first day, Matthew. I forbid it."

"Fine."

"OK. So what are you wearing?"

"Mother, please. Like I have any idea. I don't know yet."

"Yet? Matthew, Cordelia will be here any minute!"

"I'm well aware."

"Then shake a leg! I will not have that girl wait on you when she arrives. I worked really hard to get her to agree to this, and she had every reason to say no given your last encounter with each other. So you will be the nicest you've ever been to her!"

"I mean it, Matthew! We both know you have a tendency of not being able to control your temper. But I won't have it. Not with Cordelia. You treat her preciously. Like a gentleman. You're to be the epitome of a prince to her."

"Alright!" Matthew barked back. "What am I, a brute?"

"No, but I know you. I know you can be your own worst obstacle. It's not just for her, it's for me too. I want you here. You can't mess this up. You have to try. Do it for me, will you?"

Matthew spit into the sink as he concentrated on the reasons—reason why he needed to stay.

After wiping his mouth with the back of his arm, he turned toward his mother.

"Fine. You want me to be princely?" He flashed a toothy smile. "I'll be absolutely princely toward the precious princess."

"Matthew, be serious."

"I am being serious."

"I'll be the most gallant gentlman she's ever met. I am a Landgraab after all. Poor thing will probably have to stop herself from falling for me."

"Oh, Matthew. You're your father's son." Diana rolled her eyes. "Just hurry up now, don't be late!"

"Yes, Mother."
