How do you get so many likes/comments/reblogs I’m trying so hard but no one reads my stories and it’s so disheartening

Well, firstly, if you'd like to tag me in your fics I would love to give you support.

I'm not sure how long you've been writing, but it can be so hard if you are starting out. I have an nhl account, and it’s new, and it’s like starting from square one. I do know what you mean by disheartening—my wattpad page, though its not the same platform has been up for 5 months and these are my numbers. Mind you, I still only have 11 followers. My celebration fics were recently uploaded, but the fact that that many ppl saw them and weren't motivated to like them stings a little

In my opinion, getting a good group of readers on Tumblr takes a while, which can be really discouraging, too. If you want to send me you @ I can check out your page and see what tags you’re using, and the structure of your work, etc. I'd be more than happy to offer suggestions that I think might help. 💕

It’s tough putting yourself out there, and honestly, I've been staying off my fyp because I was getting in a weird state of mind about what I was dropping. I was starting to question why mine were so “low” because how are ppl getting 2-6k likes on rafe fic? Those thoughts made me forget how lucky I was to have what I have. It was starting to effect my writing too.

I know that's not exactly the best advice to give. tbr everyone knows a reblog from a fellow writer, especially if they are a “bigger account” can really boost your numbers. “Likes” don't do much, though they are a great acknowledgment of your hard work. There are some bigger accounts on here that, when they reblog my work on their main account, my fic does way better than it would have simply been on mine… so the reason I say it's bad advice is bc it’s a two-way street. If you're not putting yourself out there, sticking to yourself, and not making connections with other writers, writers are less likely to reblog your work. That's me just being honest.

The notes game is so tough, and I’m sure the last thing you want to hear me say is that “it doesn't matter,” but since I've stopped checking mine, I feel a lot better about being on here.

honestly, at first it was pretty okay and/or easy bc I had a feeling we were gonna be put under quarantine anyways. school assignments were easy bc I was used to the classes already. summer went pretty well as well (honestly it was probs one of the best summers ever LMAO for me at least). then when late Aug/early Sep hit, everything kind of went downhill bc school had started back up, and I had (and still have) to teach myself the material for all my classes. school is on my mind like 24/7 too LMAO i can never escape it (aka i’m stressed)

The /point/ is that this isn’t your religion, nor is it your gender, so you don’t get to decide how they present. This person has the right to practice their religion and express their gender in whatever way they wish, regardless of what some rando on the Internet says. However, seeing as you obviously don’t care, here are some of the ‘actual’ points, as an afab agender person who is also a part of a religion that uses head coverings-

1- head coverings can be worn to show respect and devotion. From my, admittedly, limited understanding of the Islamic faith, this is the majority of the reason they use head coverings. You want to know something else? They aren’t the only ones who do!!! I am a hellenic pagan, and use of head coverings to show respect and devotion is seen across time and across many genders. It’s not seen much as a religious thing in Ancient Greece, but Roman priests (note: priests, so these are, indeed, men) wore them during religious ceremonies, likely as a form of showing respect and devotion. But we are talking about Islam here, so I’ll return to that. From what I could find, Muslim women wear head coverings as an act of ‘submission to God’ (direct quote from most of the articles I could find). It’s about having respect for their god! And sure you could say ‘oh well ‘submission’ makes it sound like something bad because you’re giving over your power and your free will to some god’ and like no, that’s not how this works, that is capital g God, in all of the Abrahamic religions, again, as far as I’m aware, literally everyone is required to submit to God because he’s an all-powerful, all-knowing being, that just /makes sense/. It is simply the way that this individual decided to do this that you have decided to take an issue with. Again, I am not a part of any of these religions, but the point still stands.

Now that was again, from what I understand, the main reason in Islam that people wear head and/or face coverings, but since we’re here and I am a being that lives off of pure coffee and spite, let’s go over the other reasons that someone of literally any gender may decide to wear head coverings, shall we?

2- Protection. This is more seen in modern pagan religions, I think, but wearing head coverings, or, as it’s typically referred to in this setting, veiling, is seen as another form of protection against spiritual or magical harm. People who wear them for these reasons will typically also enhance their head coverings with protective symbols or other protective magic (for example, mine is black, which introduces an element of color magic as black is seen as the color that provides protection).

3- Grounding. Head coverings are commonly used, again, primarily in modern pagan religions, as a way to ground one’s energy, but personally, I’m neurodivergent, and the constant not-quite-pressure of my veil is really nice and very grounding for times when I’m feeling particularly sensitive to sensory input. Again, that’s literally just me, but the point stands.

4 and my personal favorite- because it’s fucking fashionable. Did you see how pretty they looked? Have you seen how cool it looks when people wear fancy head coverings? Or hell, even just bandanas? It’s cute! It’s stylish! It’s, once again, *not your gender, so you don’t make the rules*. There was obviously an element of fashion to this video as well, since they were showing off different cool ways to veil and since, as the original showed up on my fyp, the original was TAGGED WITH FASHION!!! It’s also a fun way to add symbolism to your outfit that may be extremely subtle, but glaringly obvious to other members of your community (thing pride colors for LGBTQIA+ people or embroidering with random references). Also, because this didn’t really feel like it fit anywhere else, just as a genderfluid person may wish to wear more traditionally masculine clothing on days where they feel more masculine and more traditionally feminine clothing on days where they feel more feminine, they may choose to wear their hijab in ways that feel more ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’ to them to either simply match how they’re feeling or in an effort to curb any Dysphoria they may have, but again, it’s not your gender, nor is it your expression of religion, you don’t get to make the rules. Also, they did specify that the one they use for masc days is worn by men, so the fact that you think head coverings are ‘female coded’ is just factually incorrect.

So basically, head coverings are seen across countless religions and genders, used for multiple purposes, and it’s literally none of your goddamned business how this person wishes to live their life.

But yeah, that’s the point. You did ask.
