A lot of ideas can co-exist.

There are activists on Tumblr. Some have been "activated" online. They've grown up on Tumblr. Tumblr is a default location for so many to try and urge others to act on their own best interests. There's no better way to use Tumblr than through fandoms.

That means the bad faith operators use them, too.

We've seen radicalizing in fandoms for years. Terfs do it, fascists do it.

One of the ways they have been particularly effective is in shutting down any conversation they don't want people to have. And it has worked. There are outcroppings in every social media sphere where people are: NO POLITICS. NO LGBTQ TALK. NO GENOCIDE TALK. NO BAD STUFF. PERIOD. No one wants to go through the drama of sorting it all out. It's been traumatizing for a lot of people. Cutting everything potentially problematic back is one way of dealing with the problem and making sure nothing toxic starts to take hold again.

There's upsides to that and some downsides: how people have been radicalized says a lot. I know some folks just want to get the revolution started and think banging heads together out here will do it.

So there's folks who have grown up here to reject that, fight against it and try to push others toward "action" without ever really being able to define what that "action" should be. There's folks who don't even realize they're desperation for "action" turns them off the folks who do not want anymore trauma. When you're deep in that mindset, you're not much better than a troll, really, and about as effective.

Yes, mental health/physical trauma is a real and valid reason some folks will not engage with political content of any kind.

Want to be an effective activist?

Online is never where it is at. You are simply not going to move people here. It won't happen. The need for the protective bubble is just too strong. You can use your platform to spread information, activist activities that are happening offline or specific ways people can help themselves and others, which people can then choose to participate in by sharing with their circles. That's it. That's what you can do here. If something goes viral here, it won't be because you pushed it on folks, judged them. Made them feel bad. People have to walk by themselves. They can't be forced along.

If you really need to feel some movement in the world, get involved locally. Join a school board. Library board. Volunteer at food banks, community gardens. Setup a booth at the mall or other community location and learn how to engage with people directly. More people will just walk on by, but once in a while, someone will come up to you and really want to know what's up. It doesn't feel rewarding or cinematically revolutionary, but that's how it's done. You can't start with a massive audience from day one. It's one to one to one to one until there are ten. Until there are twenty. Until there are a hundred.

If you need to go a step further, help a labor union. Join the picket lines. Encourage others to join unions. That's big right now and an effective way forward.

And don't forget that a huge part of what is going on in this world is a lack of compassion. A lack of humanity toward others. Everyone needs it. We need love and gentleness and kindness. If your activism doesn't start there, it won't end there. You may not believe it because you live in your own bubble of Rightness. If you think other people's suffering justifies you being a dick, you're not helping them. Donate to their GFMs. Encourage others to. Kindly. *That* helps.

Online is where we archive. Where we keep track. Where people find solidarity in the things that keep them going. That keep our humanity intact. That's the best of it. The worst is when we stomp around on it and tell others how they should feel and how they should live. That's not activism. That's policing. If there's one thing activism should never involve, it's policing others.

I'm a good twenty-odd years in this game now. I work in my community and my state and I'm telling you: you're not going to change the world online. The movements you have seen that seem to arise and build awareness? Online was incidental. It wasn't what made it happen. Bitching at people for "not caring enough" not sharing enough trauma posts or what not, is not what makes change happen. Nobody knows you. You're a stranger who walked into their house and told them YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG and only added to their own trauma. It's not helping anyone at all.

PS: people talk politics all the time. They just might not be talking about it with you. For a very good reason.

Humble yourself a little. It won't hurt.

We need all of us in this time. Set a better example. Let people come to you. Go out and meet your neighbors. People need connection, not judgement. That's how this works.

I am actually begging some people to just let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and horrors.

Like I've lost count of the amount of times peaceful game or fandom servers have been ruined by people stampeding in with political rants, bitching about world issues, demanding internal activism, demanding vent channels so they can whine about their shitty parents, ect.

Like. Respectfully. Not every single space has to be inclusive of and welcoming of outside topics. The real world sucks. We don't needed to be reminded of that absolutely everywhere.

Silco finds him at the end of the day and insists on collecting the money straight away. Vander rolls his eyes and agrees, betting to himself that they won't be back in time to eat at the mess hall. He fetches the purse from his dorm, from the hole in the corner of his mattress, and hands it to Silco.

Silco takes it with a reverence that betrays him. It must be the first time Silco's seen so much bronze, judging by his stunned expression when he opens the purse. Vander's never been rich but he's been to the dicing dens on the riverbank, seen the stack of silver and bronze at the high stakes tables. Here at the mines, even the gambling happens by debt and credit, to be paid off when the company allows their monthly payments.

He follows Silco's instructions, stands back and looks intimidating while Silco haggles over a pallet of wood. Half of it has been damaged by the Pilt, the chemicals staining the wood a blue-grey that will never sand out. The pieces are slightly warped where they were wet, but they're as strong as anything they've managed to scavenge. And it's a whole pallet of wood that Silco manages to purchase for fifty-five bronze.

Moving it is a different story. It's too heavy for Vander to lift above his knees and even when Silco helps, they struggle to move it more than two paces.

"Maybe I should go ask Benzo and Felicia for help," Vander suggests, and one side of Silco's lip curls up in a sneer.

"What possible reason would they have to help?"

"A favour," Vander replies. Silco doesn't look any more convinced. "A favour for me."

Silco stalks around the wooden planks, head tilted as he eyes the problem. "What we really need is a few pairs of gauntlets. We'd be able to lift it then."

The idea of Silco's slender fingers inside a pair of gauntlets seems absurd. "Have you ever used a pair of gauntlets?"

"It doesn't matter," Silco says instead of admitting Vander's right. "That equipment is locked up too securely to be any help to us."

"So what are we going to do?"

"Break it down to something manageable. We'll hide what we can't carry and take it down over multiple trips."

It takes them hours. Hours to carry the wood down from the riverside to the fissures, up through the abandoned mine and come back for another load. They work quietly together but every so often, Silco shoots him confused glances.

"Is something wrong?" Vander asks as they stride back up to the docks, hands aching but empty.

"No."

"You sure? You keep looking like…" Vander shrugs. "Like something doesn't make sense."

Silco pushes a stray strand of black hair behind his ear, looking down. "You didn't have to help."

Vander laughs. "What are my chances of getting any action with you if I didn't help?"

"Fifty-five bronze," Silco replies sharply. "You could have visited Babette's for a week. Much easier."

Vander turns around to stare at him. (It's also an excuse to catch his breath.) "Babette's doesn't have you."

Silco narrows his eyes, like Vander's throwing around sweet and empty words. "It's been weeks, Vander. Weeks of you helping me. You don't need to. You don't owe them. Do you honestly expect me to believe it's because the sex is up to a professional standard?"

"It is good." They haven't gone past hands and mouths, but he's worked out how to make Silco keen, his back arched off the floor and his hands desperately digging into Vander's forearms. He knows how Silco looks on his knees, smug and challenging with his thin lips stretched around Vander's cock. "But it's more than that. I like you. I like spending time with you, and that seems to involve a lot of manual labour right now."

I dunno if y'all have been trying to deal with all of this alone or if you haven't told anyone you're struggling but you need to. I'm fuckin serious. Talk out loud to spirit if you have to, just saying things out loud or writing them down can really help you process what's going on in your head. I believe in y'all.

Listen, I don't really do relationship advice but some of y'all need to be told that you can't change him. You can't and no, he won't change for you. Reality is messy and in our fantasy we never have to shit or floss or maintain what we have, we just have it. The truth is having to accept that life will never be perfect. There is no perfect relationship, perfect job, or perfect life. No routine is going to magically fix your life. The people you love will always have traits that annoy you a little bit, just like you have traits that annoy them a little bit, but you love each other and know you're both worth mild annoyance. It's time to ground your ideas into reality and let them be imperfect. Let them breathe. Y'all are limiting yourself to the idea of perfection. Your life IS going to be a little fucked up and messy no matter what. Some of y'all ain't even perfectionists, you just don't believe in yourselves and use things not meeting your fantasies as evidence that you can't do it. *Angeal and Genesis drag Sephiroth into the ballroom, each of them holding one arm* 

Sephiroth: I'm going to scream for help and embarrass you both. 

Angeal: I once had to drag Genesis kicking and screaming from the book store after they sold out the last Loveless graphic novel. Nothing fazes me anymore. 

Genesis: Please, as if I kick and scream when—SON OF A BITCH! SHE SHOULD HAVE KILLED YOU WHEN SHE HAD THE CHANCE! 

*Sephiroth stops struggling, he and Angeal look at Genesis like he's insane* 

Angeal: What the hell was that?

Sephiroth: I can't believe you would agree to something like that. 

Angeal: They're paying me 10,000 gil. 

Sephiroth: I can't believe you didn't ask for my help and agree to pay me 5,000 gil. 

Angeal: 

Sephiroth: What's the plan? You simply go up and punch him in the face?

*The bartenders and other people at the bar turn to look at Sephiroth and Angeal*

Angeal: WHY ARE YOU IN A DRESS? 

Zack: I had to switch outfits with Cissnei so she could infiltrate a group of men in disguise.

Angeal: Why couldn't Genesis wear the dress? 

Genesis: AND NOW THEY'RE HAVING A FOURSOME. 

*The people at the bar gasp and look at the four of them*

Sephiroth, nodding: And had an affair with Angeal, yes. 

Angeal: WHAT? 

Zack: Hang on, I didn't do any of this! I'm Zack, I'm just wearing Cissnei’s clothes. 

Rufus: It's alright, miss, I'm not judging you. 

Zack: No, I really am Zack. 

*Tseng walks by* 

Zack: Look! Tseng can vouch for me. 

Tseng: Excuse me? 

Zack: Tseng, tell Rufus I'm really Zack in disguise.

Tseng: I'm sorry, I don't know you. You do look familiar though. 

Genesis: I can't believe this. I finally understood the full story. He was in love with him, but started having an affair with his brother behind his back. And now he got a woman pregnant. 

*Lazard is walking by and overhears this*

Lazard: I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. TSENG, HOW DARE YOU CONFESS YOUR FEELINGS TO ME WHILE HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH THE VICE PRESIDENT? 

*The music stops, the whole party gasps and are now watching this go down* 

Tseng: I have no idea what you're talking about. 

Rufus: This isn't what it looks like. 

*Lazard gestures to Zack*

Lazard: AND NOW YOU'VE GOTTEN THIS WOMAN PREGNANT. 

Zack: I'M NOT PREGNANT. I'M NOT EVEN A GIRL. LOOK!

*Zack rips off his wig* 

*Everyone gasps* 

Sephiroth: I think there's been a misunderstanding. No one's pregnant, no one's having an affair with anyone, and no one is involved with anyone's mother in any way. 

Angeal: Yes, if everyone will please calm down, we can sort this out without fighting. 

*Angeal gets a text notification on his phone* 

Angeal: 10,000 gil here I come. 

*Angeal punches Rufus in the face, the crowd gasps* 

Zack: WHY DID YOU DO THAT? 

*Rufus is bleeding* 

*Genesis is still listening to his soap opera*

Genesis: HE JUST CALLED HIM AN ILLEGITIMATE BASTARD. 

Lazard: THAT'S IT!

• Lazard flies at Rufus and the two start brawling on the ground. Tseng and Lazard rush to pull them apart, but this ends up creating an even bigger fight when both Turks and SOLDIERs start attacking each other. The party quickly descends into chaos.

• Angeal pulls Sephiroth and Genesis out of there. 

Angeal: Happy, Genesis? Look what you did!

Genesis: Me? You're the one who punched Rufus in the face! 

Angeal: Yeah, but I got paid to do it! 

Sephiroth: Speaking of which. 

*Sephiroth pulls out a wad of gil from his pocket—10,000 gil*

draco w/ his partner - draco's partner is someone who he can break down with. after years of being forced to mask his emotions under a cool facade, he's able to fall apart in his partner's arms and know that they won't judge him. they're one of only a few people that know that draco isn't just upset with his father because of his actions. he was upset because he felt like he'd been lied to his entire life and just wanted an explanation. later in life, draco feels incredibly self conscious about a lot of his earlier 'achievements' and if his father only doted on him as a child because he was raising him to be the dark lord's lackey. ultimately, draco really appreciates having someone to confide in, and the upbringing from his parents really makes him appreciate the way that you care for him without any strings or conditions attached.

explanation - after the death of his mother, theo is obviously shaken up. he's actually quite fucked up for pretty much forever. he tries to pack all of his emotions inside and drown them out with drugs and alcohol. when he gets drunk, he doesn't have to deal with his mother not being here anymore. that's why it's not all that surprising when he starts hanging around with the children of death eaters. it is a surprise to him however when he returns to italy to visit his grandmother and she wants nothing to do with him.

theo w/his partner - theo and his partner give enemies to lovers (wild since I dont think i've ever written theo like that) but i firmly believe that he hates his partner in the beginning. why? theo's partner reminds him of his mother. their personality, their soft smile. it's all very reminiscent of his mother and he fucking hates it. At first. He doesn't like the way that being around you brings out the old theo. he doesn't want to lose you in fear that it'll feel like losing his mom all over again. but when theo finally does give into his feelings for you, he starts to cherish the ways that you remind him of his mother (and of course the ways that you don't). he often tells you about how he and his mother dreamed of escaping his father but were never able to.

(i think he'd actually be one of the slytherins that fought against the death eaters in the battle of hogwarts). i think that lorenzo would have run away from home multiple times as a child just trying to escape and get some sense of normalcy. but i don't think that it ever would've lasted any longer than a day or two at most before he was found and brought back home (where his uncle was all too happy to try and beat lessons into him). because of this though, lorenzo would be the kind of person who's always trying to protect others.

lorenzo w/ his partner - because lorenzo is always trying to protect you and knows that his family would ruin you just to get at his emotions, when the death eaters take control of the ministry, he breaks up with you. he actually stays away from you for years following the war as well. all he has are his memories of his brief but happy moments with you. his love for you haunts him for this entire time. and then, he runs into you one day in diagon alley. it's a little awkward at first but the two of you actually rekindle the love that you once had and this time, he's all in.

Gallagher prepares a shot for you, almost like he knew this was going to happen, and he slides it over. Turns out, he decided to hydrate you with this shot. You down the show before rolling your eyes.

"Could you give me a glass of water next time?" You ask, Gallagher smirking as he pours some water for you.

"Here ya go, kiddo."

"Welcome to the confession booth. Please state the purpose of your confession, starting with the most pressing sin." Sunday asks, how looking down at your arm as you see the words glowing as he states them.

"This may sound strange...but you appear to be my soulmate, but I don't know what I can do with this information." You scratch the back of your head, Sunday pausing in thought.

"...I suppose this was going to happen at some point." He sighs out longingly. "Given my position, I'm afraid my responsibilities do not allow me the opportunity to indulge too much in relationships."

"I knew that - I'm surprised you didn't tell me to get out by now." You laugh, Sunday pausing once again.

"...I suppose you know more about me than I do if you. How about we spend this time we have to find out about you?" Sunday asks, a smile evident in his voice.

With a smile, you reminisce about general information about yourself - your career, your favourite things, your family, anything Sunday asked about you'd answer. Sunday seems to enjoy the conversation, throwing in his little parts here and there as well.

By the end of the conversation, you both round things off with a laugh before you both remember you likely won't see each other again. Hell, he's never seen you!

"I'm sorry fate has tied us together. Please proceed in your life knowing that in another life, perhaps we would have been very close." Sundays smile drops. "I'd like to ask your name, however due to anonymity I am not allowed to ask this. I wish you the best - if you find a special someone, don't wait for me."

You open your mouth to tell him off for telling you to move on, but then you realise you're asking him to prioritise you in the future.

So, you leave without another word, leaving Sunday to stew in his misery as you go to Gallagher to cry about it.
