I do think Alex's relationship with Mr Fires would be a real severance for Clara, even if she felt more concern then betrayal. An irrevocable change to their hesitant friendship

But I think most of all she would be pissed that Alex had decided to try and avoid her, out of guilt, once things progressed, as if he had any right to make that choice.
