People really love to pretend doctor who as a television show exists in a vacuum and not a culture that has shifted over the last 60 years. The standards for television are very different now than they were even 10 years ago & I think it’s important to consider in ANY analysis of doctor who what the surrounding tv landscape was like

I don’t think it’s fair to be like it’s fine for rtd to do x bad plot point bc it’s the same shit he did his first run #like yeah. his first run in 2005. where the standards for storytelling in tv were very different #warlock wartalks #or even w classic who vs modern lots of like ohhh the doctor used to just be good all the time which. while that’s not necessarily even true #you cannot sit here and pretend the idea of the television protagonist hasn’t changed since the 70s #idk I think everyone should be required to take a tv history class before they talk abt this. this is Bidens america
