She’s A Gun
Pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
Author’s note: *John Mulaney voice* My wife is a bitch and I love her SO much (gif by @salome-c) I also didn’t know how to end this so sorry
Summary: Somebody didn’t give the new guy a heads up about talking about Joel Miller’s family [1.6k]
Warnings: idiots in love, a quick mention of a queer slur, I can’t think of anything else!!
Tumblr media
You catch him looking at you across the room as you sip some new whiskey Tommy traded for. He looks young and fresh-faced without many scars or littering the surface of his skin. His eyes are bright when they meet yours, and you give him a polite smile before returning to your drink. Unsurprisingly, he bellies up to the bar a few minutes later. You glance at the door, and the man follows your gaze.
"You meeting someone?" He asks. The bartender, a kind man named Nick, flashes you a look, but you wave him off, turning to the younger man, who is dead set on making his presence known.
"You must be new." You say, and he laughs as he holds out his hand.
"You got me. I'm Luke," He says. You meet him halfway and shake his hand, giving him your name. "Where are you from?"
"I came here from Boston."
"You're a long way from home. What brought you here?"
"Long story."
"Is it longer than the time it would take to get you another drink?"
"I can get my own drink, but thank you."
"'Course," he says but doesn't move from his place next to you. "What do you do here in Jackson?" He asks, and you open your mouth to say something, but he cuts you off. "Let me guess. School teacher. No, a nurse."
"I work patrols, but good guess."
"Oh, I'm going to work patrols, too. I actually just signed up for my first shift tomorrow. Speaking of which, do you know anything about this guy… Miller, I think, is his name. I heard he's a hard ass."
"Joel or Tommy?"
"There's multiple?" He asks, and you smirk as you sip your drink.
"There's a few of 'em hanging around, yeah. What did they say? Maybe I can," you shrug and try to hide the amusement in your voice. "Help you figure it out."
"Well, this guy, Seth, said Miller shouldn't even be in Jackson. Something about him killing people to get by before coming here, but he gets to stay because he's buddies with Maria. Apparently, he's a hell of a shot, though. I heard a rumor that he once shot an Infected from a mile away, but I'll believe it when I see it." He says, and you nod.
You remember that day well. Tommy had been bragging about his marksmanship, mostly telling big fish stories, and you finally got sick of it. Joel told you to leave it, but you had to see. When you went on patrol the next day, you and Tommy had a competition to see how far he could actually shoot. You passed the gun back and forth to see who could hit accurately and how far. You were the one holding the gun when the Infected bound his way up the hill and quickly went down as the bullet buried in his skull. You didn't think that story would've made the rounds, though.
"What else did Seth say?" You ask, and he puffs his cheeks out as he shakes his head.
"He told me to stay away from him. Something about not fucking with people like that because he's ruthless, especially when it comes to his kid. He said Miller yelled at him last week because he said something to her. Just... totally lost his mind like a crazy person." It wasn't just something. He called my daughter a dyke, you think to yourself. Joel may have pushed him and made him leave, but you threatened to ruin his fucking life. If you ever hear him say something like that to Ellie again, you'll make Joel look like the poster child for forgiveness. You bite the inside of your cheek and save that information for later.
Seth wasn't warning Luke about Joel. He was warning him about you.
"And you're sure he was talking about a man?"
"Pretty sure. I mean, I know people do lots of shitty things to stay alive, but I can't imagine a woman instilling that much fear in a man like Seth," He says, and you hum. "No offense."
"None taken." You smile and watch his guard come down just enough for him to feel comfortable reaching for your arm.
"I wish I had known they let women as beautiful as you out on patrol. I would've signed up with you instead of Miller." He says, and you almost gag. Joel's hand skims your lower back almost as if on cue, and you turn to face him. He kisses you a second too long before looking over your shoulder to face the stranger who looks embarrassed. His arm wraps protectively around your middle, and he's close enough that you can smell his shampoo over the bar’s stench of stale beer.
"Great timing. This is Luke. He's starting patrols tomorrow," You say. Joel reaches across the space to shake his hand, and Luke winces at his too-tight grip. "Luke, this is my husband, Joel Miller," you wish you had a camera to take a picture of the stunned look on his face when he hears the last name. "Joel, we were just talking about the last time I was on patrol with Tommy."
"You're Miller?" Luke asks, suddenly looking pale. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"Oh, I thought I mentioned it. I'm sorry, I'm probably losing my mind." You echo Seth's words and smack yourself on the forehead dramatically. Luke drains his drink before glancing around the room.
"It was great to meet you, man. Um, I'm gonna run to the bathroom really fast." He says and takes several steps away from the bar.
"Oh, so soon? I was hoping you and Joel could talk about routes."
"Maybe later." He says, and with that, he's gone. You smile and turn in Joel's arms to face him.
"Jesus, I thought he was going to have a heart attack. What did you say to him?"
"Seth was warning him about the mercenary who's buddies with Maria and shot an Infected from a mile away, asked if I knew anything about the guy."
"Seth should learn to keep his fuckin' mouth shut." He grumbles, and you nod.
"It didn't help his case that he tried flirting with me. Even asked if I was a school teacher." You say, and he gives you a look. His warm fingers reach under your shirt collar to pull out the chain with your wedding band on it.
"Maybe if you actually wore this, that wouldn't happen so often."
"C'mon, everybody knows I'm yours. It's not my fault no one gave him the run down," you say, and he tugs on the chain to kiss you, his big hands moving to hold your jaw. He swallows your gasp when he licks into your mouth, sending a zing of electricity down your spine. He's a touch too handsy for a public space, but you're not complaining. "I don't see you wearing yours out on patrol either." You say, pulling away before he can start something he can't finish, at least not in public. Still, his hand slips into your back pocket, squeezing your ass through the denim.
"Don't want to lose a finger. Besides, everybody knows I'm yours," he parrots, and you smile. A familiar, old country song plays over the speakers, and Joel lights up at the first few chords. "Will you dance with me?" He asks, pressing light kisses to your jaw to butter you up. You lock your arms around his shoulders and let yourself forget about everyone else in the bar.
"And to think there was a time when you hated PDA."
"That was before someone tried hittin' on my wife," he says, and you feel like your face will get stuck from smiling so much. It's been three months since the small backyard wedding officiated by Tommy and Maria. Ellie walked you down the aisle— more of a patch of grass than anything else— and acted as your maid of honor. When Tommy asked if she agreed to give you to Joel, she said, "it's not like she's fucking property, but sure." She beamed so brightly when she realized you each included her in your vows, promising to love and protect her as much as you love and protect each other. It wasn't planned, but the unexpected matching further proved that you three are a family. Still, you don't know if you'll ever get used to hearing Joel call you his wife. "Dance with me, please." He pouts into your neck, and you finally give in, grabbing his hand and leading him to the dance floor.
He pulls you close, and you bury your face in his neck as you slowly dance to Tanya Tucker's voice. He sings along for only you to hear, his accent getting stronger as he does. You could stay like this forever, wrapped up in him and listening to him sing the same song you used to sing along to while driving on backroads. You would marry him again if you could. You think you would marry him in every lifetime.
Scary rumors of mercenaries and blood on your hands fade from your mind. To men like Seth and Luke, you are a subversion of their holy mother. You are bloody and broken, a monster beyond saving. You are a warzone with a heartbeat.
But to Joel, you are the most sacred thing he's ever held. It's not enough to erase the rumors and nightmares about you, but it's enough to knock the wind out of you and make you love your husband that much more. That has to count for something.

Older Men
Pairing! Crocodile x Reader
Warnings! Drinking
Crocodile realizes that you need someone older to take care of you, not the boys that you seem to want.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You fast walk through the tall tents of Buggy Town, arms wrapped tight around yourself and head ducked low so that no one else could see the tears streaming down your face. You'd been rejected again, by the third man in less than three weeks. All you wanted was a little companionship, someone to hold you close at night. To kiss you good morning when you woke up. Was that so wrong to want from someone your own age?
You don't notice how close you've gotten to Crocodile's side of the town until you physically bump into the man himself. You grunt when you lose your balance, and you brace for a fall that never happens. Instead, you feel warm sand supporting your back and upper arms, gently setting you back on your feet, and dangerously close to the ex warlord.
“Pretty things like you should watch where they are going,” Crocodile grouches lowly, and you look up at him through wet lashes.
“Sorry, sir. I'll be more careful,” you murmur, and fresh tears spout up at the reprimand. Now look at what you've done. Gone and pissed off one of the leaders of the Cross Guild.
Crocodile looks down at you, looking rather unimpressed with the thick cigar clenched between his teeth. He recognizes you and has seen your walk of shame back to his side of town each time your little date didn't go as planned. He didn't understand why you would want to waste your time on pip squeaks like them when he has been here this whole time.
The devil fruit user comes to the conclusion quickly and spins on his heel, “Come with me.”
You blink at his retreating back and jump to follow after him when he glances over his shoulder with an expectant look. You follow him to the edge of the town, and he steps to the side to allow you inside his personal tent first. You're just a little nervous being in here. You've known Crocodile for a while, after all.
He breezes past you, stopping at his desk to pour two glasses of dark liquor. He pushes one glass to the edge, an obvious offer that you are hesitant to accept. However, it's never a wise choice to not accept anything that the towering man offered.
The liquor burns as it goes down, but you find yourself relaxing because of it. You watch as Crocodile hums in satisfaction and sits back in his chair, mouth going a bit dry at the way he spreads his legs and rests his dangerous hook on his thigh.
“Why do you bother with those boys?”
You jump at the unexpected timbre and whip around to give him a look of confusion. He scowls at you, rolling his purple eyes skyward.
“Don't play ignorant. I've watched you each time you come crying back home. Why do you keep trying with them?”
You sink into yourself a little. You don't understand why it matters to Crocodile, but you couldn't not answer your boss.
“I um. I should be with someone my own age, right?” You say carefully. You've never really thought too much about the why of it.
“ku- ha ha, Who told you that?” He demands and his voice drips with condescension, clearly thinking you an idiot. You blush and embarrassed tears well up.
“No one? I just thought that's how it's supposed to go.”
Crocodile lets out a soft hmm, and then sets his now empty glass away. He eyes you, looking all cute and pathetic.
“Come here, Doll,” he murmurs and pats his lap, “Those boys out there will never know how to treat a beautiful woman. You need someone to take charge, someone who knows what they're doing. Someone a little older.”
Your face feels like it's on fire, but you can't help but hang on to every word that the gator says, his tone soft and beckoning. You step closer, clearly nervous, but Crocodile makes your decision for you when the ground under your feet becomes less stable and you fall forward, catching yourself on his broad shoulders.
Crocodile rumbles another laugh and tugs you into his lap properly, tucking you close to his chest. His hand finds your face, and the ex warlord is gentle in the way that he wipes your spilled tears away. His eyes soften, and you look on in wonder as he leans in and presses his lips to the top of your head.
“You've got me now, _, so don't think for a second that I'll send you away.”

Tumblr media
It plays again in your head like a clip from a movie you've seen way too many times.
It's you and him, just the two of you and no one else, sitting in his stupid beat-up black jeep wrangler that's probably seen too much by this point that's parked in the middle of some random parking lot well past midnight by now.
Satoru always complains that something's broken for the hundredth time whenever he comes to pick you up from your dorm for another one of his late-night rendevous however despite all this complaining, you're always greeted with the sight of the same black car even though you know he has a car collection that's way too extensive for any reasonable university student to have.
You're pretty sure you've lost count of how many times you've asked to just get a new car at this point but he always refuses for some reason that's beyond you.
Nostalgia, he says as he pats the well-worn leather lining of its interior. We've been through a lot, me and this one, he'll add on, talking about the vehicle as a person rather than some inanimate object and then he'll start pouting at you like some sort of petulant child when you stare back at him unconvinced.
There's a part of you that wants to call him a 'sentimental idiot' for stuff like this but actually, habits like this only serve to further endear him to you in some weird twist of fate and you can only muster an affectionate eye roll as a response.
There's no particular reason as to why you and Satoru would drive out and just sit and be together like this. It wasn't even because of this specific parking lot as well since you two would just usually drive around until you found a parking lot that looked empty enough and just park there to bask under the canopy of the night sky above.
It was always so quiet. You liked the quiet.
Before you met Satoru, you thought this quiet was something only you could keep to yourself but he taught you that there was merit to be had in sharing the quiet with someone else. Even if that someone else might make your 'quiet' much louder than what you're typically used to.
"I like it here." You mumble softly in the sleeves of your (his) sweater. It was one of your favourites because it was soft and it smelled like him.
"You like the city?" There's an edge of suspicion in his voice like he can't believe someone could ever like this place coming from someone who's grown up in said city. To be fair, the place had its good, bad and ugly and maybe as a city native, he had become accustomed to more of the bad and ugly rather than the good.
"I mean, it's nicer from where I came from. A lot of places are nicer than the town I'm from." You laugh half-heartedly as you lean against the cold glass of the window.
Satoru goes quiet for a moment. You don't talk about your hometown that much and for good reason, in your opinion. University was one of your few chances to get out of there and you took that chance without so much of a look back or regret in your mind.
It's nice, cosy even, if you ignore the slight tingling sensation crawling up your legs when you sit in the way you like to sit for too long or the fact that you're both hanging out in an abandoned parking lot in the dead of night. Whatever this is, you think you wouldn't change it for the world if you were given the choice.
Too bad, your getaway couldn't last forever.
The words are weighing heavy on your tongue, just there on the tip as if they're ready to jump off any second but you tighten your lips in a frail attempt to stop them from spilling out. You know the words you're going to have to say will change the way that things are, no matter how much you want things to stay like this.
Satoru leans his head against the car window next to him, hitting the glass with a soft bonk that you're sure hurts but of course, he doesn't react to the collision. Instead, his attention is focused on staring at you, angling his body in a way so that he can get a better look at you, with that classic dopey smirk of his plastered on his face as he does.
A part of you hates him for being able to look so good even in the broken glow of the overhead parking lot lights that would have made anyone else look sickly under its cracked yellow hue.
Not him though, never him. He looks like an angel, you think to yourself, with the way the wisps of white hair splayed out around him illuminate into something that resembles a halo which further elevates his already ethereal features into something otherwordly.
"Shame, it can't last though." You murmur quietly to yourself, moreso of in the vein of thinking out loud rather than starting a conversation. Unfortunately for you, it seems he's heard you.
"What do you mean?" He asks, sitting a little bit straighter in the driver's seat as he looks on inquisitively.
You avoid looking back at him because you know if you could see his expression, it would only make saying goodbye harder. "I can't stay, Toru." You tell him as you gaze into the black nothingness of the night sky from inside the car. "I'll have to move back after graduation."
"What? Why?"
"The rent is crazy expensive here. The only reason I can stay here for uni is because of the student pricing and now that we're graduating, there's no way I can afford to find a place in time." You gnaw nervously at the bottom of your lip as you speak, a bad habit, you know, but it's just something you can't really kick.
You don't want it to end like this, who would? You don't want to say goodbye to the city, to your life, to him. You've had your first taste of true independence and it's being taken away from you because of stupid expensive rent prices, of all things.
A very anti-climatic way to go out if anyone were to ask you.
The car is dead silent for a few minutes. You're scared for whatever his reaction is going to be. He's going to break up with you, isn't he? You think to yourself and you hate the fact that your mind instantly jumps to the worst option but you can already feel a pit start forming at the bottom of your stomach .
The longer the silence drags the more you're convinced he's going to kick you out of the car or something worse and you can already feel yourself bracing for whatever fallout is coming your way.
"Then move in with me. I have an apartment here, a pretty good apartment if you ask me." He states, shrugging his shoulders casually as if he were simply talking about the weather instead of suggesting something as major as this.
"...What?" You reply, though your words come out more as a question as you try to comprehend what he's just asked.
A beat of silence passes the two of you. You don't move.
"I'm serious. Move in with me." You scan his face for any of the typical telltale signs that he might be pulling a prank on you and you find his face scarily devoid of any of them.
Oh, he's dead serious, you think to yourself, with the way he's looking expectantly at you.
"Satoru, do you understand what you're asking?" You ask, still in a state of disbelief at his offer.
He makes a face at you like the answer to your question is the most obvious thing in the world.
"Obviously, if I didn't why would I ask you." He remarks as he raises an eyebrow at you and before you can open your mouth to retort back, he brings a finger up to your lips to silence you. "And, it's not that strange of a request considering the fact that you're my girlfriend. Don't people in a relationship usually move in together like isn't that some big relationship milestone that they look forward to?"
"I-I mean it is but still."
"Okay, then what's the problem."
"I don't know." You sigh, mulling over his proposition in your head for a bit before turning back to him.
"Just promise me this, Toru. Promise me you won't get sick of me?" You ask him as you reach out your pinky towards him.
A pinky promise. It's childish you know but Satoru knows how much small things like this mean to you.
He reaches his hand out to you and interlocks his pinky with you but before you can pull away, he laces his other fingers with yours and brings your hands up to his lips for a soft kiss. The tips of your ears burn red at the way his lips brush your skin.
"Sweets, I could never get sick of you. Actually, I don't think I could ever get over you as long as I lived."
"You better hope that's true or I'm gonna make you eat your words." You grin cheekily at him, a smile which he reciprocates tenfold before basically pouncing over the console to wrap his arms around you. A squeal escapes you as you burst out into a fit of giggles as he peppers your face with feather-light kisses all whilst fighting off your weak attempts at pushing him off.
His arms rest against the plush leather of the passenger seat, trapping you against him, as his flurry of kisses dies down. He stops for a second, admiring the sight of you so close to him and a part of you wants to shrink from the intensity of his gaze. Unfortunately with the way that his arms are caging you in, there's nowhere to hide and you're left at his mercy.
Satoru leans closer, barely inches away from your face as he hovers right above your lips. "Oh yeah? Well, you're gonna be waiting for a long time because that's never gonna happen." His lips find their place against yours, melting into you like they were made for you and you think to yourself that this must be what home feels like.
Another memory of a happier time flashes through after that.
This time, you're lost in between the bedsheets with him, bare skin on skin as the two of you whisper sweet nothings to each other like lovers do in the dead of night when there's no one watching.
"I like it here." He mutters softly. His arm is wrapped around your waist, pulling you into him like you're his very own lifeline, and his legs are haphazardly intertwined with yours in some mess of limbs that might be able to pass as an abstract art piece if you look at it right from a certain angle.
The blanket is resting dangerously low around his hips and you're wondering how he isn't freezing as you cling onto him as your own personal space heater in the darkness that surrounds the two of you.
It's quiet once again.
"What? Us naked in your bed?" You quip.
"You know that's not what I meant." He groans into your bare shoulder as you giggle softly to yourself, clearly pleased with your well-timed jibe.
"Sorry, I just had to take the opportunity to tease you."
You can't necessarily see him right now but you're sure he's probably lovingly rolling his eyes at you. A sigh escapes his lips and you shiver slightly from the way the blast of hot air hits your skin.
"I like it here when it's just me and you and there's no one else except us in this world." He confesses to you as his fingers begin to explore the expanses of your body as if trying to commit the way you feel under his fingertips into memory.
You bite the corner of your lip as you fight the urge to shrink under his delicate touch.
There's another jest resting on the tip of your tongue but you decide that Satoru's had enough terrorising on your behalf so you say nothing and instead quietly soak up this rare respite from the busyness of everyday life that has been afforded to you two.
"Just us, together, in this bed where we don't need to care about anything else except just that." He adds on, his voice resolute and although you don't say anything out loud, you think you agree with him.
In here, in between these four walls, you two can pretend that the entire world existed within these confines and all the two of you needed to do was to reach out and you had the world at your fingertips. At the end of the day, it was simple and something the two of you could forever return to.
You wished that things could stay simple.
Before you can linger on that moment any longer, it's gone in the blink of an eye as another memory swoops in to take its place.
The door to your shared apartment creeks open and as you crane your head towards the doorway from your spot on the sofa, you're greeted with the sight of a slightly dazed Satoru clumsily entering.
"What's up?" You ask as you shoot up from your place, quickly making your way across the apartment to check up on him as a pang of concern over his current state hits you.
At the sight of you, Satoru is suddenly drawn back into reality as he blinks owlishly for a few seconds as if attempting to reacquaint himself with his surroundings and bring his clearly distracted mind back into reality.
"I just got a call from my family's company. They're giving me the chance to head a new division they want to expand into." He replies as he runs a hand through his hair, a nervous habit of his which shows that this offer is clearly weighing heavy on him. You take his hand in yours and give it a comforting squeeze in the way that he would do for you all those times before, a gesture you can tell he greatly appreciates with the way his shoulders sag with relief.
He confesses softly to you. "I don't know if I should do it."
"Why? What's holding you back?" You question, somewhat confused by his hesitation. This is a major offer and you're surprised that he isn't jumping off the walls with excitement but you're sure he must have his reasons.
"I just- The hours are going to be long and well, you know how many family is and the elders are-"
You cut him off sharply, sensing that Satoru was on his way down a lengthy ramble. "I think you should take it." He stares at you, almost slightly bewildered at your apt response. "It'll be good for you."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, I'm sure Toru. If you don't take this opportunity, you're going to regret later down the line." You insist, sending a reassuring smile his way. Even if he can't see it now, you're sure that this going to be good for him. For the both of you.
Whatever new hurdles that might come your way from this like Satoru is convinced is going to happen, you have faith that the two of you can make it out relatively unscathed.
It's good to have faith right?
The new question was, how long can your faith carry you?
You're pacing back and forth in your shared apartment for what seems like the millionth time as you anxiously watch the seconds tick down on the clock.
"Hey, Toru. What time do you think you're going to be back?" You're trying to balance the phone between your ear and shoulder as you smooth out a napkin to the best of your ability. It's looking a little wonky, if you're going to be honest and maybe tonight of all nights wasn't really the time to find out if you were good at folding napkins into fancy shapes like they do at the restaurant but you needed tonight to go according to plan.
It had to. Tonight was an important night for both of you.
"Why, what's the occasion?" From the way he's asking, you don't think he's putting on an act of pretending not to know for the surprise. Rather, it's a genuine question on his behalf and somehow, for some reason, that feels even worse than outright disgust.
"Did you forget?" You feel your voice falter ever so slightly, another crack etching its way onto your already fragile heart. "It's our anniversary dinner."
"Shit, I'm so sorry, sweets. It totally slipped my mind with all of these meetings and stuff they're having me do." You hear an exhausted sigh ring out from the other side of the phone in between the cacophony of other voices taking up space in the background. "I'll make it up to you, I swear."
"...No, It-it's fine. We can just reschedule this stuff for another day." A breathy laugh leaves your lips in a weak attempt to try and convince him that it was truly alright and that it was just something else to brush off.
"...If you say so."
"I'm serious, Satoru. It's fine, I can just reschedule things for another day that's all." Another one to add to the evergrowing pile, a bitter voice barks from within the recesses of your mind.
Much to your chagrin, you're unfortunately becoming much more acquainted with this voice and although you haven't responded to its taunts yet, you can feel your resolve wearing away with each late night you watch the streets below for any sign of life, his life to be specific.
Worst of all, you can't say you regret this, can you? Because if you do, then it would basically be confessing that all of the pain and late nights the both of you have been sacrificing have been all for nought and that you were wrong for pushing the both of you down this path.
It needs to be worth it so that there's a reason for this pain that you're feeling when things like this become an afterthought but you're starting to wonder how many times you have to say it until it becomes real instead of just a pipe dream you had the misfortune of being caught in.
Soon, it seemed that these doubts weren't just one-sided anymore.
"This is good for us, right?" Satoru asks one night as the two of you are getting ready for bed. It's been a while since the two of you have gone to bed at the same time as your clocks fall further and further out of sync the longer you two spend out of each other's embrace. There's a strong hint of uncertainty in his voice like he's trying to convince himself as much as he's trying to convince you. "...You're happy right?"
You don't look at him in the eye. You can't. "Right, yeah. I mean, this is what we want." Your answer isn't as resolute as you hoped that it would come out but you brush past it in the hopes of making sure whatever doubts you may have bubbling underneath your surface remain there.
"You didn't answer my other question."
A nervous laugh escapes you. "What do you mean?"
"Are you happy?" You stop in your tracks for a moment as you process his question.
There were a lot of things you could have said at that time, the truth would have been a good option, but instead, you chose to swallow the difficult choice down and take the easy way out by plastering on a sickly sweet smile and lying to him through your teeth.
"Of course, I'm happy Satoru."
As soon as the words leave your mouth, you're greeted with that oh-so-familiar sensation of that pit in the bottom of your stomach as the bitter voice you've tried to suppress makes its infamous return to the forefront of your mind.
Looking back at it now, maybe you should have said the truth, it would have saved you two a lot of pain in retrospect but pride is a funny thing and you're sure that Satoru was in the same position you were in at this point.
That's probably why he didn't push any further after your response, no matter how fake it probably sounded out loud. It's either that or he wanted to believe that you were actually telling the truth.
You're not sure which one is worse.
In another world, you would like to think that there's a point to your mind deciding to subject you to this trip down memory lane aside from dredging up your past pains and regrets to torture you. Maybe, in this other world, you would have a sudden life-changing revelation awaiting you at the end of the road but all you can see just nothing.
It's better this way, right? For the both of you.
You told yourself that when you sat him down and broke up with him in the total sum of a few sentences before leaving because you didn't want to truly say goodbye to him as that would make everything more real and therefore much worse. You told yourself that when you sat in the backseat of your friend's car they came to pick you up for a night out because they insisted that you needed to get out of your head sometimes. You tell yourself this when you stare into the barrel of the gun in the form of the glass of alcohol sitting in front of you.
He deserves better than being lied to on the daily and someone like you holding him back. You can't even remember the last time you actually, truly looked him in the eye for longer than a few seconds. You imagine the old you who loved to get lost in the vast expanses of his cerulean eyes that would gaze at you like you were the one who personally hung the stars in the sky.
Before, if his eyes were the great roaring ocean, you would gladly let yourself get pulled under by the tide even if it meant drowning in its depth. Now, you're scared to even dip your toes in the shoreline when the wave is nothing more than just the remnants of sea foam.
You reach over for another sip, pretending like the burning aftertaste left in its wake doesn't make you want to wince.
Maybe Satoru was onto something with his dislike of alcohol. You've learned that after a few drinks, all liquor, no matter the amount of zeros slapped onto the end of its price tag starts to taste the same by the end of the night.
There's just so much of him everywhere. In the objects, the, hell even the air. You think you might suffocate from the sheer amount of him you're surrounded by. It doesn't matter where you go, all you can see is him.
You needed to get out.
Pushing past the crowd all whilst ignoring the confused calls of your friends to your sudden switch in behaviour, you stumble your way to the bathroom and lock the door behind you as you slump down defeated next to the sink.
Truth be told, his question haunts you more than you would like to admit.
"Are you happy?"
You don't think you are. Maybe you should be, you have everything that would usually qualify for someone to answer that they are happy and you're no longer that struggling student you were a few years ago which is definitely a plus.
You tell other people that you are 'happy' when they ask, with a smile that never reaches your eyes and a grip that's probably too tight on whatever you're holding in your hands at the time but the answer never feels right, no matter how many times you say it out loud and let it roll off your tongue.
Despite what you tell yourself, perhaps the time when you were happy, truly happy, was when you were with him.
Deep down, you think that if you were given the choice between now and then, you would trade all of this for a chance to be those dumb kids sitting and making out in parking lots without a care in the world except for each other again in a heartbeat.
As you study the tiles of the wall opposite you, you think to yourself that it would be nice to stay here in this bathroom, far away from the rest of the world and far away from what feels like all your regrets personified but the logical, reasonable part of you knows that there's no way you could realistically stay here any longer before your friends start worriedly banging on the door.
Slowly, your shoulders deflate with a defeated sigh as you stand up and make your way out of whatever bar you've been dragged to as you bid your friends goodbye in a way that you hope doesn't raise any suspicions.
The air feels bitingly cold as the wind nips at your face while you stand awkwardly on the curb, waiting for a taxi as you go to both the first and last place you want to be at; your apartment. Ironically, in a cruel twist of fate, the total absence of anything relating to Satoru only makes his lack of presence only more pronounced.
If this was the universe's doing, then you had a few choice words for them to say the least.
You wrap your arms around yourself in a vain attempt to maintain some semblance of body heat as you quickly flag down the nearest car and clamber in. When you arrive back, you glance at the clock and you have to fight the urge to let out a laugh when you see that it's barely even past 10pm and you're already back at home.
Pathetic, the bitter voice in your head spits out.
You do what you do best and ignore it as you collapse into the embrace of your bed and try your bed to lull yourself to whatever empty dreamscape awaits you this time if only to get a moment away from your current reality. It doesn't last long though because you're awoken by the shrill ringing of your phone.
Should have silenced it, you curse yourself silently as you blindly reach for it. Once it's in your hands, you squint as the blinding brightness of the screen and a flicker of recognition flashes through you as you realise who's actually calling you and for some reason, against your better judgment, you pick up.
When you hang up, you don't go back to sleep. Rather, you're unable to go back to sleep as you're left staring blankly at the ceiling above you. The bed feels too big for one person and you find yourself missing the nights where you could go to sleep alone and wake up in the arms of another.
Much like when you're forced to watch a replay of all your memories, you're wondering if what you said was right. If you were to go by what you've been telling yourself since the breakup, then sure, you did the right thing. But if it is truly the right thing, then it doesn't explain this inexplicable emptiness gnawing deep within your chest or this aching feeling that sits in a place you can't quite reach but are all too aware of.
The longer you let your mind run through all the possibilities you can think of, the more often you find yourself coming back to the same conclusion. It's better this way, be damned, you think to yourself and with that, you make up your mind to set off on a mission.
Out of all of the places you could have found yourself at, this is definitely quite down low on the list and maybe this is what you deserve for trusting your feet instead of your head but you decide that at this point, you don't have much else to lose and so, you gather up the courage to say the words that you've been waiting to say for a while.
"Hi."

* * * * * * *
You weren't sure how you had ended up here. You hated parties. Especially ones thrown by rich people who had nothing better to do than spend a ridiculous amount of money on expensive booze and shitty food.
Not to mention, this particular party was being hosted in some skyscraper in downtown New York, which meant no matter how badly you wanted to escape the bustling atmosphere, there was nowhere else to go. Even the balconies that littered the outside were subject to the nonstop sounds of traffic.
At least it was better than being inside and having to sit through endless small talk about things you didn't understand.
A familiar voice pulls you out of your thoughts as you lean against the railing, silently watching the cars drive by on the street below you. "There you are."
You turn your head and give Kate a small smile. "Hey."
The archer approaches you, a certain bounce in her step that isn't coming from her normal bubbly personality.
While you weren't the biggest fan of these types of parties, Kate somehow thrived in them. Sure, she could be awkward most times, and she had a terrible habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, but she was charming. And as much as she hated the rich men who she had to rub elbows with all night, she understood them.
She'd grown up in this life while you...well, you were an outsider. Someone who didn't fit in, no matter how many expensive outfits the young CEO bought you or how many people she argued with.
The only thing you two could agree on was that the best part of these events was the free alcohol.
"How long have you been out here?" Kate asks as she joins you, her side pressing against yours and giving away how tipsy she already is.
"Like twenty minutes," you reply. "It was getting too stuffy in there."
She laughs and you allow yourself to admire her jawline and the way the city lights bounce across her skin. "Tell me about it. I swear I've had the same conversation with everyone."
"I don't know why you still bother coming to these things."
"It's good for the company, I guess," she says with a shrug. "And it gives me an excuse to get dressed up with you."
You roll your eyes at her, hating the way your heart instantly skips a beat at her words. She always gets extra flirty when she drinks. If you were more of an optimist, you might even believe her words had some sort of truth to them.
"You're an idiot."
She makes a face at you, her features a mixture of annoyance and amusement. "You always say that."
"Because it's true," you say.
"Whatever," she huffs.
The two of you stand there for a few minutes, basking in the closeness of your bodies. It's a small thing, but it's moments like these that remind you just how deep your feelings for the archer run.
The buzz from the alcohol in your system leads you to rest your head on her shoulder without a second thought. Her arm wraps around you in an instant and it's not until that moment that you realize how cold you are.
"Can we leave yet?" You ask in a soft voice. It's a little embarrassing how desperate you are to be away from the bustling party.
"Almost," she replies. "I think you owe me a dance."
You groan, already dreading the looks you'll definitely get. "Do we have to?"
"Yes, we do." She gives your side an affectionate squeeze before pulling away from you. "Just one dance, and then we can leave."
You know better than to trust her words, but you can't pretend dancing with her doesn't sound nice. Clearly, Kate isn't the only one with lowered inhibitions right now.
"Fine," you roll your eyes but reach out for her hand.
Her fingers interlock with yours, and she leads the way to the makeshift dance floor. Thankfully, most people seem too busy in their own conversations to pay attention to the dancing couples...and you and Kate.
It fills you with more bitterness than you'd like, but you try not to dwell on it. It's easier said than done...until her hands land on your waist and pull you close to her.
"You can come closer, sweetheart, I don't bite."
A nervous laugh escapes you. Mainly because you've listened to enough of her superhero stories to know for a fact she does bite, but also because getting closer to her is the last thing you should do right now.
She makes it far too easy to do, though, so you give in and wrap your arms around her neck.
The two of you start swaying to the soft music being played by the small group of musicians at the front of the room. It's hard not to spend the entire time admiring her features from this distance and as much as you try to ignore it, it's impossible to deny the way your heart flutters in your chest every time you make eye contact with her.
Your silence seems to surprise her, considering the way her eyebrows furrow together. "You okay?"
You nod and try to ignore how close your faces are. "Yeah, just...thinking."
That seems to get her attention and her concerned look turns into a slightly mischievous smile. "Oh yeah? About what?"
"Wouldn't you love to know?" You reply, hoping your attempt at teasing her will help distract her.
It doesn't work and instead of moving on, she wordlessly pulls you closer, her smile turning into a smirk when your eyes widen from the sudden proximity. "Come on, sweetheart, don't get shy on me now."
"You're annoying."
"Is that why you've been staring at my lips this whole time?"
Her words catch you off-guard, but they're not exactly far-fetched. The alcohol in your system mixed with having her so close only equals a long list of bad ideas. You can't deny how enticing those ideas sound, though.
You somehow manage to find your voice long enough to throw her observation back at her. "I think you're projecting, Katie."
"So you don't want to kiss me?"
She's toying with you, you know she is because you've seen her do it countless times, but you can't find it in yourself to really care. You know you shouldn't do it. You try to remind yourself that you're both drunk and simply trying to rile each other up for fun.
That no matter what happens, it won't mean anything. At least, not to her.
The longer you think about it, though, the less the potential consequences matter to you.
"I do," you reply, your voice barely above a whisper. "But only because it's the only way to shut you up."
You expect her to laugh at you and change the topic, but, of course, she doesn't. Because the only thing Kate loves more than annoying you is taking you by surprise.
In an instant, she closes the distance between your faces, her lips meeting yours in a borderline hesitant kiss. You're certain you've never seen her so nervous before. It's strange but endearing.
More than that, it helps distract you from how nervous you are.
She pulls away from you with a smile so bright that it makes your mind swim. "I guess you were right, kissing me does shut me up."
"Is that your way of trying to convince me to kiss you again?" You ask, doing your best to act nonchalant.
You're not sure that it works very well, but thankfully, she makes no teasing comments about it. She simply steals all your thoughts away by kissing you again.
The fact that you're one step away from fully making out in the middle of the dance floor isn't lost on you. Kate seems to come to the same realization as you at that moment and she reluctantly pulls away from you just to grab your hand and lead you away from everyone's gaze.
You don't know where exactly she's taking you, you just know it's definitely not toward the exit. You'd love to call her out on it and act upset and yet...you don't. How can you when your curiosity is practically eating you alive?
She drags you into the first storage closet she finds, closing the door behind you and pushing you against it. The action steals your breath away, along with the rest of your coherent thoughts.
You weren't going to act like you'd never fantasized about doing this with Kate but you'd always imagined it would happen under different circumstances. Although, if you're completely honest, you can't say you're actually mad about it.
"Hi," you whisper, your eyes drifting down to her lips once more.
"Hey." Her hands find their way back to your waist as she steps forward, effectively trapping you against the door. "Are you...still okay with this? 'Cause we can just leave and act like nothing happened."
You appreciate her thoughtful words even though the fire she started within you is burning far too bright to be put out now.
"Yeah, I'm okay," you assure her. "I don't think stopping is an option now."
Your words seem to make her hesitation disappear and her smirk instantly makes a comeback. "And why is that, darling?"
"You know why."
Kate leans in closer, one of her hands drifting down to grip your leg and lift it up until it's wrapped around her waist. "Maybe...but I want to hear you say it."
"In your dreams, sweetheart."
You feel incredibly proud of yourself until the archer pushes herself against you, creating the most wonderful friction against your center. The movement catches you off-guard and you let out an embarrassingly desperate moan at the feeling.
The brunette takes advantage of the moment and ducks down to attach her lips to your neck. "I would love to put you in your place but you are far too adorable like this."
Your head tilts back to give her more access to your skin as you struggle to put yourself together long enough to reply to her words. "I wouldn't describe this as adorable."
She chuckles against your skin, the feeling of her warm breath sending ripples of pleasure down your spine. You almost can't believe this is actually happening. For a second, you briefly wonder if you're simply dreaming.
There's no way the pressure of her body against yours isn't real, though. No way for the pleasure you're experiencing to be completely made up by you.
The hand still on your waist gives you a soft squeeze before she guides you against her. There's something slightly humiliating about grinding against her in some random, badly lit, storage closet that only adds to the intensity of the moment.
Kate seems to read your mind considering the way she moves against you, drawing out another barely supressed moan. "You're holding back, y/n/n."
Her teasing words only make you want to tease her right back. Just because you've wanted her like this for a long time doesn't mean you want to make things easy for her. Riling her up is always more fun anyway.
"Maybe you're just not as good as you think you are," you reply, hoping she won't call you out for grinding against her so desperately.
She has no plan to make things easy on you, though, and as annoying as it is, it's also incredibly attractive. "That's not what your body is saying."
"How can you be such a dork at a time like this?"
"It's my talent."
"Keep telling yourself that."
She groans, out of annoyance rather than pleasure, but you know your slight defiance is a turn on for her. It's almost funny how someone so bratty gets such a rush out of putting other brats in their place. "I hope you know your attitude is going to cost you later."
"Don't threaten me with a good time, Katie."
Her hand finally makes its way up your thigh, and she cups your heated core in one quick move. "How am I the annoying one?"
You let out a sharp gasp, your hips rocking against her hand with zero shame or hesitation. You're already so close to falling apart, the coil in your stomach embarrassingly close to snapping already. In your defense, it's been a long time since your last hookup.
"Not so mouthy now, are you, sweetheart?" Her amusement is more than clear and, even though you'd love nothing more than to wipe the smirk off her face, you're a little preoccupied with the mounting pleasure.
"Kate..." You whimper, attempting to pull her impossibly closer to you. "Fuck."
Her teasing energy is quickly replaced by satisfaction. Satisfaction that motivates her to speed up her movements, effectively replacing all your thoughts with the feeling of her hands on you.
"You gonna cum for me, baby?" She asks, her lips trailing a path from your neck to your jaw.
"Yeah," you reply, your voice a breathless, needy, whisper. "...please."
"Such a good girl. Go on, let me hear you fall apart for me."
Her words are exactly what you need to let go. It's a little embarrassing, and the lack of full contact makes it a little less satisfying than you'd like, but your orgasm crashes into you almost instantly. Your hands grip onto her shoulders as you ride out the waves, her soft whispers guiding you through the overwhelming sensations.
You're shaking and panting and absolutely spent after such a rush of emotions and Kate is right there, holding you close through it all. Somehow, the affection and care she's showing you feels even better than the orgasm you just had.
"You okay, baby?" She asks as she leans back just enough so your eyes can meet again.
You nod, still too shaken to find your voice.
"You're too cute."
Despite your breathlessness, she gives you a quick kiss, pouring far too many feelings neither of you want to think about right now into it. The alcohol must be draining from your system because you're already starting to freak out about this.
About how difficult it'll be to act like nothing happened. Like you're not completely in love with your best friend.
There's no way for you to deny it now. Hell, Kate herself can't deny it anymore either.
And yet you both try.
"Do you want to go back to my apartment?" She asks once you're able to pull away from each other.
The intention is behind her words is more than clear and it somehow manages to bring your confidence back. "Only if you let me repay the favor."
"I think we can definitely work something out," she replies with a genuine smile.
That's all you need to take her hand and drag her out of the storage closet. Her laugh rings out in your ears as you make your way to the exit.
True to your word, you spend the rest of the night returning the favor and drawing orgasm after orgasm out of Kate. It's not enough to make you believe you'll be together the way you want to and yet it's more than enough for ythe moment.
It's more than you ever thought you'd get from her.
Unfortunately, morning comes too quickly and it brings the realization that you severely underestimated how much things would change. How quick Kate would be to sweep everything under the rug and deny it even happened.
It hurts but it's not a complete surprise considering the way the archer reacts to most things.
You manage to work through it, silencing your desires in favor of making her comfortable and keeping her in your life. It's not the healthiest thing in the world but you manage.
Your friendship only suffers for a few days before you're back to normal. No one would even notice anything if it weren't for the major heart eyes you throw her way all the time.
Everyone knows, though. Everyone cares except Kate.
Instead of talking about it like a normal person, she decides to make things worse by getting a girlfriend. You don't even know who she is and the archer doesn't give you any real details, she just mumbles something about a coffee shop and a cute dog.
You've never known Kate to be particularly reserved but she is this time. Not just that, she actively ignores you. Dodging your questions expertly and pretending there's nothing weird about how little time she spends with you.
You had always assumed it would be your feelings that ruined your friendship but Kate managed to ruin everything on her own. It's almost a skill.
Somehow, even as your heart breaks and endless questions swim around your mind, you manage to keep going. More than that, you match Kate's energy and pretend you don't even notice the change in her attitude. You're not sure who's more hurt by that but you don't even care.
You treasure the brief moments you get with her and mentally shout at her every time she cancels another movie night. Her excuses are endless. One day, she tells you she's too busy with Avengers work, the next she's too caught up with Bishop Securities.
The only thing that brings you some sense of comfort is the fact you're not the only one being lied to. Her so-called "girlfriend" gets the same excuses as you, at least that's what Yelena tells you. The Russian has no reason to lie, though, so you believe her and ignore the rising thought of making Kate jealous.
That's the only thing you're able to do: ignore Kate and the feelings you still have for her.
It works for a while...until the archer finds her way back to you.
It's the middle of the night when you hear frantic knocking on your door. You suppress your fear long enough to make it to the door, baseball bat in hand.
You open the door and come face to face with those same blue eyes you've tried not to think about for over a month. "Kate?"
"Hey," she mumbles, nervousness instantly creeping into her voice. "I, um...can I come in?"
You're tempted to say no and slam the door in her face. You're honestly half-way to doing it when you notice the way she's swaying and clutching her side."You're not drunk, are you?" You question.
Your attempt to lighten the mood falls flat but she smiles anyway. "No, I'm unfortunately sober."
You hum in response before stepping aside and letting her come in. There's a voice in the back of your head that warns you not to get caught up in the past. To keep your distance until she, at the very least, apologizes for being such a jerk to you.
Kate manages to make it to your couch without tripping while you lock your door and put the baseball bat back in its usual place. You brace yourself for the uncomfortable conversation that's bound to follow as you follow after her.
"So...what happened to you?"
Her only response for a few moments is a groan and you do your best to stifle your laughter. For someone who's the human embodiment of a golden retriever, she looks a lot like a grumpy cat right now.
"Stupid mission," she grumbles while attempting to stretch her sore muscles. "I don't know where someone can get the money for that many henchmen."
"Says the rich girl," you reply with a smirk.Kate rolls her eyes but some of the tension in her shoulders disappears.
"Oh, shut up."
Your cross your arms over your chest before raising an eyebrow at her. "I don't think you're in any position to talk to me like that."
A barely noticeable blush spreads across her features. "Sorry," she mumbles. "I just...I've missed talking to you like this."
You wish it didn't but your heart skips a beat at her words. It's stupid considering the fact she's the one who put you guys in this situation yet there's nothing you can do about it. Your heart still belongs to her.
"Is that why you've been ignoring me lately?" You ask, unable to keep the bitterness out of your tone. "Why are you even here, anyway? I'm sure your girlfriend's worried about you."
Your words cause the smallest of changes in Kate's body language. She hunches down almost as if she's trying to sink into herself and disappear. You've seen her like this far too many times to not know how she's feeling.
"She would be if she didn't hate my guts right about now," she replies with a sigh. "Can't say I blame her, breaking up with her and leaving on a mission isn't the most mature thing to do."
"Wow, you're finally self-aware," you tease her, more out of habit that anything else. "A lot can change in a month, huh?"
The lack of annoyance in your tone allows her to relax again. As much as you might like to be petty, she seems genuinely sorry and upset. "Okay, I deserve that. I've been an asshole to you."
"Yes, you have, but it looks like karma finally caught up with you."
There's an edge of concern to your words that you can't quite hide. She doesn't seem to be in excruciating pain which hopefully means she's not badly hurt but with how stubborn she is, you wouldn't be surprised if she was blatantly hiding a gunshot wound.
Kate chuckles as she leans back against your couch, the movement allows you to search her suit for bloodstains and, thankfully, you find nothing except a couple of tears in the fabric. "Karma's a bitch..but I probably deserved it."
"Probably?" You ask.
"Okay, fine," she grumbles. "I definitely deserved it. It just...seemed like the right thing to do."
You can't hold back the scoff that leaves your lips. "On what Earth was ignoring me after hooking up with me "the right thing to do"?"
She grimaces, the words hitting her a little too hard. You feel a little bad for her even though these are simply the consequences of her own actions. "I was afraid of ruining our friendship. I didn't...I don't want to lose you, y/n. You mean too much to me."
A part of you wants to keep being petty about the whole thing but you've missed her far too much to push her away now. Even though she probably deserves it for being such an idiot.
"You have a very weird way of showing it." You finally allow yourself to close the distance between you two, walking over and taking a seat next to her.
Kate's hand instantly finds its way into yours, her head turning to look at you. There's a thin layer of tears in her eyes that tugs at your heartstrings. "I know...and I really am sorry."
"I know," you reply, giving her hand a soft squeeze. "You're my best friend, Kate, I've always known you're an idiot."
She rolls her eyes but doesn't say anything more, allowing a comfortable silence to fill the room.
There's a lot more you both still want to say and yet neither of you makes any attempt at breaking the moment. It's almost comforting how quickly you fall back together like two slightly damaged magnets.
Finally, after minutes go by, Kate allows herself to tell you the truth.
"It's you," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's always been you and I'm so sorry I tried to pretend it wasn't true."
Her words bring a wave of relief, and a slight bit of annoyance that you do your best to supress. "Can you just shut up and kiss me before I kick you out?"
She laughs, a real one this time, before leaning forward and stealing your breath with a kiss.
It's not enough to fix all the damage but it's a start. And you're more than happy to flip the page with her.

warnings: story starts after a car crash. wc: 1.6k
[sooo, what did I miss?] The first thing you notice when you come to is the acrid fumes in the air. They tickle your nose and rouse a cough from the deepness of your chest, which travels up your throat and comes out as a choke. Your head feels like it's filled with seawater -- like it's been drowning for hours, but you can't let the pain and grogginess hinder you from moving. You have to get out of your car if it's smelling this much like gasoline, and fast.
Your entire body feels stiff. At first, you try to flex your fingers, get the blood pumping enough to make use of them at all. Opening your eyes proves to not be much help. The fumes sting against your eyeballs, and you can't see past the engaged airbag anyhow. Instead, you keep your eyes screwed shut and grunt as you lift both arms to push the deflating airbag out of your way. On muscle memory alone, you fumble for the key in the ignition. Your fingers, for a few seconds, are too weak to twist the key, but after a few determined yanks, you successfully turn off your car. With one possibility of an explosion knocked off the list, you heave yourself off the car seat and shove your body into the driver's side door, thankful when you can open it just fine.
Whatever you'd hit after veering off the road, at least it didn't--
Fuck, why did you veer off the road?
As you fall out of your car, hacking up a storm, having inhaled too much smoke, you try to gather your memories together, but find nothing. There's this lingering feeling... You know something made you jerk both hands on the wheel and swerve off the freeway.
You just don't know what.
Deciding that the memory will probably come back to you later, you stumble a good number of steps away from your car and collapse once again to catch your breath. The cool night air does your lungs well, easing the fire that's still burning in your chest little by little. A metallic taste coats the inside of your mouth. You'd bitten your tongue during the crash.
The roads around you are empty, but what did you expect at sometime-past-three in the goddamn morning? You'd been... yes, you were on your way to the other side of the city, choosing the freeway over the hustle and bustle of traffic in the city streets. Seungcheol had called you.
Well, no. One of Seungcheol's friends had called you using his phone. They asked you to come pick him up from the club they were at because he was apparently "blasted". Though, he was lucid enough to have his friends call you rather than his older sister, who you suspected would chew him out for drinking during his university's exam season.
Even though you're closer to Seonhui, you tend to err on the side of the "cool uncle" type to Seungcheol, despite being only four years older than him. You know, the type of person you can call to pick you up from the bar without getting upset at you for being there in the first place. Someone who has no stake in any of your life decisions, so they get the privilege of not having to judge you for any of them.
He'd said something about Seonhui -- you had heard his voice yelling in the background of the call. Something about how she didn't have to know and about something important he had to tell you when you showed up.
You groan thinking about him. Poor guy; now his sister actually does have to know because her friend is an idiot who drives off freeways for no discernible reason. Feeling around your pockets, you sigh in relief when you find your phone. There's no way you'd want to search your now hellmouth of a car for it.
You know the logical thing to do first is call emergency services, but you could be on the phone with them for who knows how long. Might as well tell the person who's depending on you that you can't make it. Dialling the most recent number isn't difficult, really, although you're starting to feel the chill in the air. You shiver as you bring your phone up to your ear.
"You've reached the voicemail of--"
His voice interrupts the automated one. "Choi Seungcheol."
"--please leave a message after the tone."
You frown at the beep that rings in your ear. Seungcheol should be looking at his phone if he's waiting for you to pick him up, or at least have the ringer on. You wait only a few seconds after hanging up to call him again.
This time, the low trill rings twice before he picks up.
"...Hello?"
You're a bit out of it at this point, having just crashed your car and all, but you think he sounds... slow, like he just woke up, but also hesitant. Since you can't think of a reason he'd sound like that, though, you just ignore it.
"Hey, listen," you say, voice raspy from all those noxious fumes. "I can't pick you up anymore. Sorry"
He doesn't respond for a moment.
A long moment.
"...What?"
He must be pretty drunk.
"I got into a little accident. Princess--" That's what you, Seonhui, and Seungcheol affectionately call your shitty 2007 Honda Civic. You look over at your still-smoldering car and grimace. "--she's done for."
More silence. It's strange... there's no sound in the background, either. Did he move outside?
"Anyway, you're gonna either have to bite the bullet and call Seonhui or maybe try an Uber--"
"Is this some sort of sick joke?"
Your words come to a halt at his sudden, bitter tone, and you let out an incredulous huff of a laugh. "Look, man, I crashed Princess on the side of the road, so I'm sorry" --your tongue curls sarcastically around the apology-- "that I can't pick you up from your drunken bender."
"How do you know about Princess?"
"What the hell are you on about, Seungcheol? How do I know about my car?" An exasperated breath escapes you, and you choke on it for a second. After the short coughing fit has cleared, you bring your phone back to your ear. "You're drunker than I thought. Don't you have an exam soon or something?"
"Exam-- who is this?"
That makes you pause.
"Seungcheol," you say, simply. "It's me."
Another moment of quiet passes, and you wonder to yourself if you've suffered a concussion.
Then he asks, "What's my favourite food?"
"What does that have to do--"
"Answer the question."
Sighing, you wrap your free arm around your middle in a futile attempt to stay warm. "You tell everyone it's pork cutlet, but I know for a fact that you keep a stash of white chocolate in your room."
You hear him exhale. "Fuck."
"I don't underst--"
"Where are you?" he asks, a frantic tone to his voice now.
"Umm..." You glance around. "Highway 216... close to exit thirty-four."
"Don't move. I'm coming to get you."
You shake your head, struggling to keep up. "What? If you're calling me an Uber, don't bother. I have to call EMS to file the--"
"Don't," Seungcheol insists, and you have no idea why, but you feel inclined to listen. "Listen to me. Do not call anyone. Wait until I get there."
"There's a fine if you don't report an accident in twenty-four hours."
"Trust me." The sound of a car door slamming shut on his end of the line only gives you more questions. "You don't need to bother."
=
It takes only fifteen minutes for Seungcheol to find you, and by then you're shivering from head to toe.
A car you've never seen before pulls over and parks hastily near where you're standing (the cold ground got a little too cold). Its four-way flashers turn on before a familiar-ish figure exits and starts making his way towards you, silhouetted by the car's headlights.
"Since when can you drive?" you call out first, since it's definitely a surprise to you seeing your friend's little brother behind the wheel. You could've sworn Seonhui was whining about his lack of license a week ago. "And-- wait, should you be driving? You were just drinking--" He steps even closer, and you see the wisps of his hair lit by the headlights behind him. "Are you blond? When did that--"
You don't get the chance to finish your question. Seungcheol pulls you tightly into him, his hand on the back of your head pressing your face into his coat so all you can really say is "oomph."
Seungcheol's never really hugged you before. At least, not like this. His fingers dig into the fabric of your clothes, like he's clutching desperately to something that will slip from his grasp if he loosens his hold even in the slightest.
It faintly registers to you that he doesn't smell like alcohol at all.
You try to speak, muffled as you are against his coat. "Seungcheol, what--"
"I dyed my hair last week," he says, breathless. The words are panted over your ear, and it's then you fully realize how closely he's wrapped himself around you. You go to say something about how you saw his black hair just the other day, but he continues. "I'm four years sober next month."
The numbers are not crunching. "That doesn't--"
"And my license," he says, finally pulling back just enough so that you can see his face. "I got that in 2018."
You frown. "It's 2016."
Seungcheol breathes out your name, but all you hear is warning bells. You can tell by the pitying look on his face -- as much as it's mixed with relief. You're not going to like what he says next.
"It's 2023," he tells you, saying your name again like it's precious. He holds you tighter. "You've been missing for seven years."

i miss you, don't call me - chapter twelve: friends?
♡ masterlist ♡ - 《 prev | next 》
synopsis: when your acting careers start to pick up you and your boyfriend zoro both decide that it's better to go your separate ways. you didn't want to, but you knew he was right. fast forward to a couple years later, when you're finally starting to heal, your friends score a deal to shoot a movie together with your ex and you're starting to think maybe you haven't really moved on.
you had gone bankrupt in monopoly, courtesy of nami, so you decided to take a break. you excused yourself under the guise of getting another drink before you made your way to the balcony. you just needed some space away from the one man you couldn't stop thinking about.
you look out at the view and notice all the pretty lights in the distance. for a moment you just enjoy the calmness of being outside compared to the chaos of game night that was taking place inside. that is, until you hear the sliding door open and then shut. you don't bother to turn around, you'll figure out whoever it is soon enough.
you feel them slowly move to stand beside you, a few inches between the both of you the only thing keeping you from touching. you don't have to wait for them to speak, the mixture of alcohol and cologne enough to tell you who was standing beside you. you're all too familiar with the combination of scents. you feel your heart skip a beat, it's been awhile since the two of you were alone since the break up.
"hey." you hear him say, the sound of his deep voice causing the butterflies in your belly that were once dormant to slowly wake up. "hey." you respond back, eyes still trained on the lights below you, not ready to look at him just yet. out of the corner of your eye you notice him fidgeting with the beer bottle in his hand, it was one of his habits he'd do when he was nervous that you had become so accustomed to.
"you know...i'm not someone who beats around the bush, i'm also not someone who likes to talk..." he sounds so awkward trying to word his thoughts that you can't help but smile. "yeah, i know." you reply, memories of the both of you flashing through your mind. he lets out a sigh, a hand coming up to ruffle his hair. "it's been awhile since we broke up...i was just thinking...maybe we could be friends? we've been seeing a lot of each other again. i think it would just make sense. right?" he turns his body towards you so that he can fully look at you to see your reaction.
you feel a little embarrassed under his gaze, it's been so long since he's looked at you for longer than a couple of seconds that you can't help but squirm under it. "yeah. we can do that. it would probably make our friends feel more at ease. it was hard not just on us but on them too." you say as you finally work up the courage to look into his eyes. you feel your breath catch in your throat when you notice the look he's giving you, is it fondness? love? you don't know. it doesn't help that you're already a few drinks and some shots in.
"there you guys are! we're starting uno! come on! we're just waiting on you guys!" luffy says while sticking his head out the door. "hurry up!" before you can reply he's already taken off running towards the direction of the living room. "i guess we should head inside." you say as you start walking towards the sliding door. "i'm glad we're friends again. i missed you." you stop in your tracks, the admission catching you off guard. "let's go before they send someone else to get us." he says as he walks past you not waiting for a response.

Tumblr media
You can't exactly pinpoint the moment you knew that Minho was the one. It got lost in a blur of memories, loads of emotions, and incredible moments spent together for years. If someone would ask you what made you fall in love with him, though, you could think of a few moments…
One
It's already getting dark outside as you walk down the street next to your best friend. You shove your hands into your pockets and exhale softly, watching your breath dance through the air. "I can't wait to be back home."
"Why are you suddenly in such a rush?" he asks confused. After all, you have wanted to go for a walk tonight. "I thought you liked this?"
"I do," you clarify, laughing. "It's just getting really cold, and I miss my blanket."
"Unbelievable," he teases you and gently pokes your side. "I thought we were getting dinner," he pouts.
"We can still do that…on our way home?" you suggest, and he rolls his eyes at you.
"Fine," he sighs dramatically and gently bumps his shoulder against yours as it starts to rain very gently. "You'll start melting now?"
"You're an idiot," you groan, and he smirks, satisfied that he pissed you off.
"Not really, you're just being ridiculous," he tells you, and you're about to protest when suddenly he stops walking. His whole expression changes, eyes lightening up and a wide smile covering his lips. "Hii," he says softly and crouches down. You frown softly and only now realize the cat strolling towards Minho. You stare at him as he scratches its head and talks to it in a voice you've only heard him do around children before.
"Min, what if it's sick?" you ask worriedly, and he rolls his eyes with a soft groan.
"Y/N, not everything outside of your flat is a danger, alright?" he reminds you before looking down at the cat again. "I mean, how could you be, huh? Such a sweet little baby," he cooes, and you have to bite back a laugh at how his whole demeanor changes. Cute.
Two
A frustrated groan leaves your lips staring at the page in front of you. It's been a few months since you moved here and your Korean was getting better, but you still needed to learn a lot. Your friend Felix knew the struggle and tried to help you out, as well as Chan since they were able to talk English with you in case you didn't understand. You were a quick learner, but this was taking a toll on you, and you've found yourself frustrated very often. You look up as Minho strolls into the kitchen and grabs himself a drink from the fridge. You flash him a kind smile, and he gives you one back before coming over. The thing with Minho was that your Korean needed work, and his English did. You two always tried to communicate but had to focus really hard to do so. Chan and Felix both pushed you to learn from each other often, and you were starting to get along much better than in the beginning.
"Are you studying?" he asks you, switching to English and you nod tiredly. He looks at you and squints his eyes for a moment. "I can help?"
"Yes, please," you answer, and he nods relieved as you answer in his language. "I don't know how to pronounce that," you say and point at the line in question.
Minho gets himself a chair and sits down next to you, reading through the page before humming softly. He reads it out loud for you, and you try to repeat it. He chuckles at your first attempt, and you smack his arm in protest.
"Hey, that's not nice!" you laugh.
He grins. "My mistake," he says with a very adorable accent that makes you smile involuntarily. He lets you repeat word for word and becomes very patient with you. You feel at ease now, listening to his soft voice making sense of your chaos. When Chan and Felix get back from the company and see you two sticking your heads together over your book, they exchange a knowing grin and give you some privacy.
Three
Minho glances at you as you look down at your phone, seeming a little sad. He gently nudges your side and tilts his head at you. "Hey, you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay," you nod, but he's not convinced. "I just miss home sometimes, you know? I love it here, I do, my job is amazing, and I can spend time with you guys all the time…but sometimes I miss home."
Minho nods understandingly; he knows how it can get. "What do you miss the most?"
"Right now?" you ask, and he nods. "That might sound stupid but my mum's cooking."
"That doesn't sound stupid at all," he assures you. "My mum lives an hour away, and still, I miss it all the time."
You giggle softly and shake your head at him. "I can't cook for shit; otherwise I'd solve the problem that way."
Minho frowns at you. "Hello? You have a foive star Michelin here," he says, imitating Felix's accent and deep voice. "Tell me what you want, and I'll figure it out."
"You're being serious?" you ask amused, and he frowns at you, almost offended. You know he can cook, but you didn't expect that. "Wait, really?"
"For someone as smart as you you're surprisingly dumb sometimes," he tells you with a kind smile and pats your head, like you've seen him doing it with his cats before. "Don't worry, kitten, I got you."
You search his eyes, and your heart warms at the thought of him cooking for you. "Okay," you say gently and send him your mother's recipe.
Minho reads through it before jumping up. "Huh, easy as cake," he grins.
"As pie," you say.
"What?" he asks, irritated.
"As easy as pie, Min," you clarify, and he pulls a grimace.
"Correcting me even when I'm doing you a favor," he scolds you fondly.
"Hey, you told me to," you giggle.
Minho opens the fridge and waves you off, taking out some ingredients. He meets your eyes across the room and smirks. "Cooking like a chef."
"Shut up."
Four
You curse quietly to yourself as you look outside and see the rain pouring down on the streets, thunder rumbling through the air. Of course, you forgot your damn umbrella today. You never did, and somehow you managed to do so the first time in ages you could actually use it. Once you're done handling all the things for the upcoming tour of your friends, you push yourself up and pack your things. You'd be soaked the minute you stepped outside.
In the elevator, you once more check your bag but still can't find your umbrella. You give up sighing and walk towards the exit, frowning as you spot Minho. "What are you doing here?"
"Hello to you too," he says and you fight back the urge to roll your eyes.
"I thought you had dance practice," you tell him, confused.
"Why would they need me?" he asks jokingly.
"You're the main dancer, genius," you snort.
"Totally overrated," he waves you off.
"Seriously, why are you here?" you ask, laughing.
"Why? Would you prefer I'm somewhere else? Am I bothering you?" he asks, pouting.
"What? No," you laugh and shake your head.
"Sure sounds like it," he says before grinning. "When you came here, I promised Felix to take care of his friend. Since we all know you're made of sugar, I'm here to make sure you'll reach home in one piece." You blink at him, confused. "It's raining, and you'll simply dissolve, won't you?"
"Idiot," you giggle.
"Well, come on now, I have a dance practice to get back to. I'm the main dancer, after all," he tells you and earns a playful punch in the arm for it. Minho grins and wraps his arm around your waist, pulling you against him as he opens the umbrella and steps outside with you. You smile at the feeling of his body next to yours as he makes sure you're not getting wet.
"Thank you for picking me up," you tell him gently.
"I saw you forgot your umbrella," he tells you and smiles softly. "You're too young to die, dear, I had to come and get you."
"Will you stop?" you laugh and pinch his side, making him squeak in surprise.
"Stop this, or I might reconsider," he jokingly threatens.
"You'd abandon me just like that?" you ask, covering your mouth in fake shock.
"You? Never," he winks at you, and you quickly look away, feeling yourself blush. Gosh, not again.
"You're a real gentleman, thank you very much," you say sarcastically, and a genuine laugh falls from his lips. You can't help but laugh as well, loving the sound of his sweet, happy giggles.
Five
You nervously fidget with your hands as you get closer to Minho's bedroom door. Only five minutes ago it had seemed like a fun idea to actually learn a dance of theirs for once as Felix had so often teased you about. You used to love dancing growing up but haven't done it in a while. Chan suggested that you ask Minho for help, after all, he was their main dancer. You've watched him work quite often by now, knowing his ways to make things simple for his friends. Somehow, the thought intimidated you a little because Minho was amazing at dancing. You could only embarrass yourself, right? You give yourself a push and gently knock on his door.
Only a few seconds later, he's at the door, opening it and looking at you surprised. "Y/N? Do you need anything?"
"Maybe?" you chuckle and awkwardly look at him, not knowing how to say it.
Minho squints his eyes at you before taking your hand and pulling you into his room, closing the door again. "What did you do?"
"What?" you ask, laughing nervously.
"Did you break something? Did you mix colors doing the laundry again and ruin another of Changbin's expensive shirts?" he asks, and you start laughing at him.
"No, Min, please," you giggle and search his eyes. "I wanted to ask you for a favor, actually."
"Go on," he nods and leans against his desk, gently blowing a strand of his hair out of his face.
"I've been joking with Felix and Chan about learning a dance of yours," you tell him, and he looks at you curiously. "Channie suggested I'd ask you for help."
"Any particular reason for it?" he asks, interested.
"Boredom?" you shrug, and he chuckles softly. "I used to dance when I was younger, but I haven't done it in ages, so…I could use some help."
He smiles gently, unable to hide his excitement about you coming to ask him for help. "When do you want to start?"
"Right now?" you ask before quickly shaking your head. "If you have time. If not, we don't have to and-."
"Of course, I have time for you," he tells you with a genuine smile that makes your heart flutter a little.
Only shortly after you find yourself in the practice room with him, a little intimidated by the huge mirror wall in front of you. Minho follows your eyes and contorts his face. "I hate them too, once you know the dance they're simply distracting."
You chuckle softly and watch him as he starts talking you through the steps. Following his instructions is easy, he simplifies everything for you with silly metaphors that make you laugh. At one point, you can't quite follow his movement anymore, and he steps behind you, gently taking your wrist.
"Here, like this. Twist it gently against your head and twirl your fingers to a fist as you do," he tells you and moves his leg between yours. "A little further apart," he says before his hand lingers over your lower back and corrects your posture. Your breath hitches as his fingertips brush against your skin as he tucks a loose hairstrand behind your ear. "Try again," he says quietly, and you repeat the last few steps he has shown you. He tilts his head at you softly as he watches you with trained eyes. You're not quite sure why he's smiling to himself until he speaks up again. "Very well, Y/N, you'd fit right in."
"Stop it," you say, blushing softly at his clearly impressed expression.
"I mean it. You're better than you think you are," he tells you kindly.
Six
"Oh! And just down here, I used to go after school when I didn't want to go back home already," he tells you, pointing down the street. "I used to play games there all afternoon with my friends."
"What about your homework?" you tease him.
"Overrated," he rolls his eyes. "I did that hidden beneath the blanket with my flashlight later."
You giggle at the thought of a small Minho hiding beneath his blanket and doing his homework in secret. "Such a good student, huh?"
"I was okay," he shrugs and thinks for a moment. "You're hungry?"
"A little, yes," you nod and giggle as his eyes brighten up. "Let me guess, you know a place."
"Hey," he says softly and looks almost a little timid. "I thought you wanted to see the places I grew up around."
You gently wrap your arms around him, standing next to him, and smirk at him. "I still do. I just think you're adorable."
"I'm what now?" he asks offended but you see the blush rising in his cheeks.
"You're adorable, Min," you tell him again, and he glances at you nervously. "I love how excited you get over small things sometimes."
"Hey, I have a reputation," he mumbles, only half-heartedly protesting.
"I know you better than that," you chuckle, and he squirms a little in your arms. "Lead the way, handsome."
"Handsome?" he whispers, and his eyes widen.
You giggle at him and poke his cheek lovingly. "Chan was right, you really suck at taking compliments," you say and let go of him.
"He didn't say that!" Minho protests loudly, and his eyes widen as you simply nod. "Chan hyung, you little -."
"Don't," you scold him, and he rolls his eyes.
"He's not here, you know," he tells you.
"And still, you call him hyung," you point out.
"I'm being polite, some people were raised like that, you know?" he teases, and you stick your tongue out at him. "See? That's exactly what I mean."
"So? Where to next?" you ask, and he points down another street.
"Right there," he smiles and looks down as you take his hand.
"Come on now, I'm hungry," you laugh at his puzzled look.
"Right," he nods quickly and leads you down the street, loving how your hands fit together perfectly.
Seven
Minho frowns softly as your name pops up on his screen. He grabs his phone and takes the call almost immediately. "What's up?" he asks.
"Do you have time right now?" you ask shakily, and he sits up straight in his chair.
"What's wrong?" he asks worriedly.
"I'm just feeling sad," you tell him and sniffle softly.
"Oh, dear, why's that?" he asks softly.
"I miss home and I feel like I'm messing everything up lately. It's been raining for days, which only worsens my mood, and I'm having trouble sleeping," you explain quietly.
Minho hums gently before frowning. "Chan's busy doing the live right now, and Felix is on some fashion event…but Chan should be done in twenty minutes. I'll tell him to call you and-."
"Minho," you say, and he shuts up immediately. "I know they're busy."
"Yeah, right, you know our schedule better than we do," he giggles.
"I wouldn't have called them if they weren't either," you say.
"What?" he asks confused.
"I wanted to talk to you and hear your voice, Min," you say timidly.
His eyes widen at your confession, and he swallows hard. "Why me? They know you so much longer, and I'm sure they can help you out better."
"I feel safe with you," you tell him, and he remains quiet for a very long moment. You start getting nervous, unsure if you've overstepped a line now.
"I uhm, can I call you back? Something came up," he says, and you swallow hard.
"Okay," you say quietly, but he has already ended the call. You anxiously put down your phone and stare out of the window. Had it been a mistake calling him for comfort? Did he feel like you were moving too fast in your friendship for that?
Only twenty minutes later, Minho rings your doorbell repeatedly. You open the door and stare at him, surprised. "I brought some food, your favorite chocolate, and my mini projector to watch some movies. I also brought the blanket you always steal from me…which is kinda stupid since you have your own here," he says and frowns at himself at the last bit. "Will you let me in? I'm soaked and starting to feel a little cold," he whines.
Only then you notice his wet hair and clothes, too focused on his soft eyes searching yours beforehand. "Why are you here?" you ask stunned as you let him inside.
Minho looks at you in utter confusion and puts the things down on your kitchen table. "You said you were sad."
"And that makes you risk getting sick?" you ask surprised, and hand him a towel for his hair.
He quickly dries his hair a bit before putting the towel aside and tilting his head at you. "You said you feel safe with me…so why would I stay at home?"
You stare at him before tears fill your eyes all over again. "I really don't deserve you," you press out, touched by his effort.
Minho's face softens, and he pulls you into a warm hug. "You deserve only the best and so much more, beautiful," he says softly and smiles as you hold onto him tightly. He buries his face in your shoulder, smiling at the feeling of being needed. Needed by you. "I'm here now. You'll be okay," he promises, and you believe him.
Eight
You chuckle as Chan takes your hand and pulls you into the audience to get a good view of the stage. The rest of the kids follow you, and you all curiously wait for your friends to enter the stage. Felix told you it would be the first time they'd perform Taste live. You loved the song the moment you heard it for the first time and were really surprised by Minho's vocals as well. You giggle softly as Minho fools around with the audience before, opening his suit jacket and laughing at the supportive screams. "Such a tease," you say.
Chan grins and hums softly. "Wouldn't expect any different," he nods, knowing damn well his friend only had eyes for you since he spotted you in the crowd. By now, everyone had picked up on the way you two gazed at each other, both thinking to be subtle.
They start their performance, and you can't do anything else than stare at Minho. The suit fits him amazingly; the colors are complimenting his dark eyes and hair. His stage presence is undeniable, and you'd never get sick of watching him dance, doing what he loved. His beautiful angel voice rings in your ears, and suddenly, he's sinking to his knees, still singing effortlessly. You're making eye contact, and it hits you all over again how beautiful he is. Before you know it, he's on the floor, rolling his hips with his hand placed near his lap, and you can't deny the sparks shooting through your lower stomach.
"Enjoying the view?" Chan teases you, and your eyes widen.
"Huh?" you ask nervously and glance at him for a moment. "Felix being handsome is no news, Channie."
"I wasn't talking about Felix," he chuckles and leans closer to you so you can hear him as the crowd goes wild. "I'm not talking about Hyunjin either."
"Minho always looks good on stage," you say cautiously.
"Only on stage?" he asks, and you turn to look at him. "I'm not blind, Y/N."
You glance back on stage as Minho takes his ending position, panting softly and smirking succeedingly into the camera. "Would it be so bad if I liked him more than a friend?" you ask timidly.
Chan gently wraps his arm around your shoulders. "Do you?" he asks, and all you can do is nod, swallowing hard at the confession. "I can tell you he'd love to hear that."
"What?" you ask surprised.
"Minho needs someone to show him how lovable he actually is. He'll never make the first move thinking you don't like him that way and too afraid to lose you," Chan tells you gently. "You have a very special place in his heart; he's just scared to show you."
"Are you saying there's actually a chance he likes me back?" you ask quietly.
"Not just a chance," he says before searching your eyes. "We have your back no matter what, and we'll always be there to support the two of you," he tells you and gently places his hands on your shoulders as Minho makes his way towards you. "You two deserve to be happy," he says softly and pushes you forward.
You meet Minho's beautiful dark eyes and flash him a shy smile. "Hi."
"Hey," he smiles happily, eyes lightening up at the sight of you.
"You looked beautiful up there," you say, and he blushes, smiling shyly.
"Yeah?" he asks sweetly. You've never called him beautiful before.
"Can we talk?" you ask gently and reach out for his hand.
Minho's face grows worried as he takes your hand, intertwining your fingers. "Is something wrong, kitten?" he asks.
Gosh, you really loved this man.

Broken { The Break; Chapter 2}
Pairing(s): Fem!MC/Yuu/Reader x TBD
Summary: MC awakens after her fall but the reactions of others make her spiral worse - but not all is as it seems.
WARNINGS
I am not the best at labeling warnings or triggers but I can say that this story is laden with neglect, self-depreciation, self-neglect, anxiety, possible depression and attempts to justify the above. There could be more labels that I can add but i’m unsure how to word them - so please exercise caution.
I liiiiiiiiiiiive! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I restarted this SO many times and yet I could never get it to feel...'right'...So I hope this lives up to yall's expectations! Sorry for the bad summary lol
One last disclaimer though! I have not seen the entirety of Chapter 6 and I have avoided pretty much all content for Chapter 7 as far as i'm aware. So I may not have everyone exactly in character in new things were revealed for them.
When M/C awoke, she half expected to be in the infirmary as she was when she was knocked unconscious during the Magift Tournament. But the other half of her?
She didn’t expect much. Be it the stillness of the void around her, or the library floor if Professor Trein left her where she fell – there wouldn’t be much difference. It's what usually happened anyway; She could handle her injuries herself if that was the case. However, she supposed there was some form of upside to being in the infirmary.
If she was left in the void, how else would she know firsthand how she burdened and upset those around her.
‘It’s so late…’ She thought to herself, gazing out of the window across from her bed. She could barely make out the faintest shape of the moon – a crescent. Even the moon was smiling at just how pathetic she had to look at this moment.
“-C. M/C!”
Why was it so hard for her to hear? Even as she turned her head slowly, moving her eyes to gaze up at the headmaster beside her, it was as if someone had placed her in a tub of mud. She moved so slowly, without much feeling other than a sharp pain as she tried to rest the side of her head down onto the pillow.
“…Hng..”
“Thank goodness, you’ve finally awoken! It’s been two days already! What on earth did you drink to cause you to create such an awful mess of the library?! You know very well that you cannot ...poultices as other students do because of ... Furthermore, I believe I ...use it for research not as ...a playground!” He ranted but his voice faded in and out as he spoke. But why? Why can't I hear him?
Only an idiot would zone out at a time like this.
Crowley sighed, clearly exasperated when she didn’t attempt to speak.
‘He hates that he let you stay here. Who can't do simple chores? He wishes he never helped you.’
“Once you are ...leave, you are to clean up ...the library. Luckily, ...the matter with you ...I can see.” He continued after a moment, his arms folding over his chest as he gazed down at her. Slowly, it became easier to focus but the ringing in her ears never  "Actually...Our nurse is ...but I see no reason ...release you myself."
“…Y-yes…sir.” She rasped, voice dry and hoarse from lack of use.How long had she been unconscious? But again, did it truly matter? But what did that matter? Clearly, the pain in her head wasn’t real and not a sign of something worse. Why should she expect something else?
'He wants you gone.'
'You're taking up space.'
'Stop being selfish.'
'Because you think you're worth more than you are.'
Ace, Deuce and Grim came to visit her that day at lunch just before her release but the visit felt hollow. They laughed and teased her for her clumsiness, even Deuce smiling a bit at the dramatics of Grim, but none seemed to notice the forced smile that M/C put on her face. None noticed how her eyes twitched at the sharp, spike of pain that formed when they grew louder.
‘They’re only here because they’re forced to be. Stop thinking about yourself.’
'Just smile. Don't make a scene.'
When M/C had been released earlier that day, she was urged straight to attend the final class of that day rather than go straight to Ramshackle.
‘Please let this go by fast…’ She thought to herself, letting Rook lead the way to their class as the pain in her head continued to grow. M/C closed her eyes for a moment, missing the way Rook glanced back at her and shifted his body to walk closer to her. 'Please...'
Yet it did not.
MC felt as if she was on autopilot as she sat in class, sluggishly marking notes where needed and nodding along with the lecture but nothing seemed to sink in, no matter how many times she willed herself to focus in. Rook would boisterously comment on things, his voice jolting her to the present long enough for her to gaze at him and then the teacher before her focus waned once more.
‘You’re so needy.’ Why couldn’t she just move past her little incident? Everyone else already had moved past it, so it clearly wasn’t very important. She had no right to wish that others worry about her. They had bigger things to worry about, more important things to focus on.
Right?
‘Why can’t you handle this on your own?” Why couldn’t she? It was only one day just like the others! It wasn’t even hard! Ruggie had gone without meals more than she had! So obviously, she was just exaggerating. Vil had more things to worry about than she did including an actual career! What right did she have to complain about doing a few favors?
‘You’re pathetic.’
‘A waste of space.’
‘What good is someone who screws up a simple thing?’
‘No one cares.’
‘You’re replaceable.’
‘Forgettable.’
As class ended, MC prepared for her cycle to begin once more and so it did. Rather than go to  dinner, Kalim latched onto MC the moment she was out of the classroom. The pain in her head returned full force with his boisterous volume right beside her ear but she still smiled.
He offered to help the next time she went to the library since he knew ladders were tricky.
‘They aren’t tricky. He’s pitying you’
“Kalim, leave her alone. She needs to rest.” Jamil finally said after a few minutes, his eyes not leaving her  as he spoke. He almost seemed to study her before adding, “She isn’t looking well.”
‘Pathetic.’
“Huh,? Oh right! I’m sorry! Go, go rest up! We can plan a group dinner later!” Kalim practically beamed before ushering her away from the cafeteria despite Grim’s many protests and her own stumbling feet.
“B-But -”
But they were already on Main Street by the time MC attempted to speak. Why was she always so hesitant when it came to these things? She barely uttered a word in the entire conversation and despite Jamil’s eyes on her, it was as if she wasn’t really a part of the conversation. Just a figure meant to listen but not contribute.
Always there but never meant to fully be there.
MC didn’t register her body moving as she went towards the direction of Ramshackle, her form practically shrinking in on itself as they went. Grimm was rambling on and on as he floated beside her, while she let her body guide her on a path she had now memorized.
“…Just…pathetic…” She mumbled, one hand coming up to grasp at the other elbow. That’s what she was, wasn’t she? She didn’t stand out other than being magicless but even then people seemed to forget. No one cared that she couldn’t magically make a situation better, but they expected her to do it anyway. Just like no one seemed to care about her wellbeing but they expected her to always be okay. Thoughts of Riddle, Leona, Azul, Kalim, and Vil drifted into her mind - how each of them experienced their own breaks during the Overblots, how they opened up about what hurt them, how everyone listened and tried to help them. She thought about how Crowley actually brought in special healers and therapists just for them for weeks after their incidents and how they still have check-ins with him to ensure they’re on the right track.
Where was that for her? Her body couldn’t produce magic, she couldn’t  Overblot to make others realize how badly she was hurt mentally, physically, emotionally. She couldn’t voice her worries because who would listen? Even when she tried to warn her friends about the smallest of dangers, they simply brushed her off. Her words didn’t matter; so why would her thoughts matter.
‘Is that it?’ She wondered, a sudden cold feeling filling her form. What if she truly was the issue? Why was she so focused on having her thoughts and feelings acknowledged when she knew that all others wanted was for her to help them? They are all more important than her pathetic emotions, right? They have a life and future here in their world and it’s clear she’s just an anomaly who may never return to where she was once from. Was she - overvaluing herself? Was it all-
“It’s your fault, you know!” Grimm yelled suddenly, directly in front of her.
MC stopped suddenly, a cold chill rushing through her body at the words. Her fingernails slowly began digging into her skin as she looked into Grim’s eyes. “W-what?”
“It’s your fault!! You know, I had to do cleaning duty!” He complained, his little paws resting on his hips as he scowled. “I wanted to pick up some of that discount tuna before Ruggie got all of it but I was roped into cleaning! Not to mention those creepy twins came at me about something you forgot! And you forgot the library today! I'm not cleaning that just because you're lazy and took a fall! You’re my henchman, not the other way around! Don’t be selfish! ”
M/C this. M/C that. Clean the weeds. Fetch my things. Deliver this. Talk to this person. Clean this, clean that. Keeping busy, always busy.
'It's for the best. They have other things to focus on-'
She stopped walking, her head hurting more and more, as if a little thing was smashing cauldrons over and over against her brain. Her heart joined the rhymed pounding so hard, she gripped her chest in a vain attempt to calm it.
"Stop-" She gasped but couldn't say more as she stepped back, her throat clenching.
'They are more important. Don't deny it'
'They will never care about you.'
'You don't belong here.'
“I know as the Great Magician that I am, that I need to carry the both of us since you're useless without magic but you need to watch it with the - huh? MC?!” Grimm continued, his tone shifting to something MC didn’t want to hear – something she couldn’t hear.
She backed away, one step and then two before rushing off towards the entrance gates of the College. Not once looking back.
Her surroundings blurred as she ran, not taking into account where she was truly going - just knowing that she had to get away, far away. From the Grim, from all of the others, from Night Raven College, from everything. She just wanted it all to go away!
'Useless.'
'Magicless.'
‘Selfish’
"Stop! Stop it!" She sobbed, her breath catching in her throat. Her chest began to hurt more than her head caused her to stagger in her stride. M/C felt herself tumble down and crash down a slope, the brush scratching her as she went down before she hit something hard and frigid.
She sobbed as the thoughts continued to repeat in her head; Every overblot, every chore, every demand, every reprimand, every expectation, and every sign of disappointment. Why was she truly like this? She wasn’t good for anything but menial tasks due to her lack of magic and still she can’t do any of that right.
“Make it stop, make it stop, makeitstop…”
She didn’t know how long she laid there, nor how long she was sobbing, begging and screaming for the pain to go away, for the thoughts to go away. The pain in her head only grew the more she cried, and as it grew  - so did that pain and tightness in her chest.
‘Useless.’
‘Useless!’
‘USELE-’
Until the darkness took her under again.
But unlike before - the chill of the darkness grew stronger and more intense until it was the only thing she was able to feel. Just as the voices were the only thing she was able to hear. Repeating their words over and over, in a hell that she couldn’t wake up from.
After what seems like ages, a gradual warmth began to seep into  the darkness around her. A spreading, far reaching feeling spreading across her body but oddly focused around her back and under her legs.
‘What is…’ She wondered as another sensation came to her slowly, a rocking kind of motion accompanied by a lightness. It reminded her of the gentle swaying of the waves of Coral Sea but was swiftly ruined by the sound of harsh thunder reigniting the pain in her head. A flash of brilliant light flashed across her eyelids, causing her to whimper.
“Are…-ake, dear?” A familiar, deep voice crooned, not loud enough to hurt her head any further but enough for her to hear it clearly.
‘This voice…I know it…I..Why is he-’
‘You’re wasting his time.’
“Shhh, your heart…racing again. You…it’s Lillia…Focus on my breathing, little one.” Lillia’s voice soothed, as the rocking motion slowed - was she being carried? M/C registered the warmth tightening around her slightly as her breath quickened unintentionally.  “Shhh, focus…. You can do it. Think of nothing else but my voice and deep breaths.”
It took what felt like ages before M/C was able to focus on the steady rise and fall of her head in time with Lillia’s breathing. The ache in her chest lightened but the pain in her head did not, only worsening as she attempted to open her eyes. Another flash of lightning, red eyes and furrowed brows.
“It’s best if your eyes remain closed. The storm will only worsen the pain of your concussion.” Lillia remarked, just before more thunder rumbled. “ You worried us all, dear. Especially dear Malleus.”
“C-concussion? B-but I…don’t have a-” She mumbled, turning her head to hide from the storm before a thought flashed through her mind. “T-The library! I didn’t clean i-”
“You will not be cleaning anything nor doing any chores for the foreseeable future, little one.” Lillia cut her off quickly, his soft voice containing a firmer tone than she was used to hearing. “You are injured and have been pushing yourself too hard. Far harder than you should have.”
‘He knows you can’t do it. That’s why he said that.’
‘He knows you’re pathetic.’
“No, n-no I’m not. It’s fine. If anything I need to push harder, heh.” She forced out a laugh, attempting to lighten the atmosphere but Lillia merely sighed.  “I-It’s nothing really!”
“You’ve barely been eating, little one. Silver told me as such and I witnessed it myself; We were going to ensure you ate this evening but you didn’t show. In addition, you’ve been having more accidents than usual and have been unfocused. You. Are.Exhausted.”
“No, it’s fine. I just, if I just finish this one thing then it’s fine. I-I can clean the library super fast and it’s all okay!” She pressed, fighting the urge to cry once more. Had her screw ups been that apparent? She didn’t mean to; She was doing her best!
“But it’s never just one thing, is it?” M/C faintly registered the sound of his shoes upon cobblestone, were they back on campus?  “After this, then there’s another favor that’s asked of you, another assignment, another mess to clean. But – have you had time for yourself, little one?”
“…I-I do at night I have-“ The words trailed off as she tried to think of something. She did have time to herself at night but it was never for long, especially when her thoughts would become so loud or she would get those odd dreams of things she swears she’s seen but can’t fully remember.
“But you live with Grim, yes? Who boasts about how tidy you keep your shared room…so I can only wonder how much alone time you get in there at all.” He hummed, and for a brief moment MC felt the brush of something soft and silken brush her face. Lilia seemed to shift slightly, curling into her  before the gently swaying became an airy sensation, like she was adrift but his warmth continued to steady her.
“…”
“And let us not forget that Malleus often takes his nightly walks in your area; Often alongside you, yes?  He’s told us that he’s seen lights on in Ramshackle as late as the early morning hours even after he’s escorted you home.”
“Ramshackle…isn’t my home.” She mumbled, her eyes growing hot and tears welled within. “This isn’t my home, I don’t belong and that’s why this doesn’t matter. I don’t know why you’re wasting your time with me; you have better things-”
“Do you know what’s the scariest thing in the world?”
“Huh?”
Lilia’s voice was low as he continued to speak, “Asking for help. You have to open yourself up and admit to yourself and someone else that you need help. That you need someone there to help you stand until you get your footing once again. There’s not many people who can open themselves up to doing that. Magically inclined or not.”
MC thinks of everyone who asks her for help. “No one seems to have that issue here…”
“They do love to ask you for things but not for those matters that are oh-so  troubling to them. Most would rather keep to themselves and allow their thoughts to consume them before they incite their pleas. Does that sound familiar?”
MC bit her lip, her eyes opening partially as her tears finally began to fall. She vaguely noticed the dim setting around them, but nothing was truly familiar as her tears blurred her sight. “All of you already have so much to worry about and futures to plan and…it’s just…better if I don’t ask.”
“And what, praytell, about your future, little one?” Lilia pressed as MC shakily used her hands to wipe her tears away.
“I…don’t think I have one. I don’t have magic so I can’t really….. I’m a magic-less student in a magically-based academy – how am I even going to use what I’m being taught? I’m just pathetic and worthless-.”
“Enough. I refuse to listen to you slander yourself in such a way, Child of Man.”
MC tensed as Malleus’s voice rang out firm from somewhere in front of Lilia and herself. She slowly parted her fingers, blinking so as to get a clear peek between them but quickly came to wish she hadn’t. She wished she could go back to that unknown area where Lilia had taken her from and just melt there where she wouldn’t have to deal with what was in front of her and the implications it all held.
Standing before her, in the main room of Ramshackle Dorm, were the Dorm Leaders , Grim and Sam with various expressions across their faces. -----------------------------taglist-------------------------------

Can't help but think about a Vampire!Tav x Karlach... so part 1 of this idea :) pardon the lack of quality haven't done this for a while.
Vampire!Tav x Karlach:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're one of Astarion's siblings, and let's say here that the rite simply Does Not Exist and we just gotta kill Cazador cuz he's already bad enough as is. The scars are indeed a shitty, Raphael style poem.
You and Astarion are basically double trouble, absolute menaces, downright diabolical together...but then Halsin comes along and ruins everything.
Astarion is...good? Suddenly? Or at least, he tries to be. Because Halsin is as good as people get, and for once...it's actually affecting Astarion.
And ugh. You hate it.
He's all smiles and rainbows now. Giggling like a lovesick idiot. You pity him for looking like such a fool. Doesn't he know how easy it is to string someone along? How easy it was to hand them over to Cazador and then just...forget them? How little love actually meant?
At least, that's what you tell yourself when you watch them being together. In reality, you're jealous of Astarion as much as you are a teeny tiny bit happy.
What could it be like? Loving someone just...because? To finally feel safe around another person? Protected? Cared for?
Astarion doesn't look afraid anymore, whereas you can't go a day without hearing Cazador's voice ordering you around. To sit up straight, to know your place, to never dare to drink the blood of a another–
"Soldier? Mm it's not even morning yet... Huh? Hey, easy-shit–easy there soldier! If you need to, uh, eat? Wait hang on, it's more like drinking isn't it? Well, you know what I mean! What I'm trying to say is, if you need blood..."
Your band of misfits had been hurrying to Baldurs Gate like maniacs, leaving you little time to feed. Sure, you caught your occasional animal, but unlike Astarion, you didn't have a humanoid blood bank willing to be your donor. You'd been hungry for days, however, you still thought you had everything control.
"...could ya ask before you try to take a bite outta my neck?"
Coming out of your hunger induced daze to find a surprised Karlach underneath you was...alarming, to say the least.
Not because of the position–she was warm and so fucking firm underneath your skin, sharply contrasting your cold, undead body. You nearly wanted to melt into her arms.
When was the last time you'd experienced warmth apart from blood and tears? Let alone the warmth of another person?
But this wasn't a time to loose focus. Karlach has already warned Astarion when your secret identities had been revealed. She'd wring your neck for actually trying to bite her now. Sure, you were strong–buy you'd be a fool to think you had a chance against the tiefling.
You're frozen in panic so long that Karlach begins to move, slowly trying to prop herself up with her elbows. She's trying to make sure you don't fall off her...
Though at the realization, her efforts are in vain as you lurch yourself away in horror.
Shit, shit, shit–
"I-I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. I wasn't in my right mind. I swear I would never... I-I know you said to keep our teeth to o-ourselves..."
Your dead heart pounds, and you're certain she'll snap you in two after this. Why couldn't it have been Gale? Or even Wyll? At least with them you had the chance of survival. With a barbarian like Karlach?
This time, you really were going to die.
You squeeze your eyes shut when she finally rises from her bed and stalks toward you. Slow, purposeful steps. Her eyes are troubled, and you can't fathom why.
That is until she stops you and softly speaks.
"I thought you'd been looking a little tired these days. I shoulda brought it up early, but I know you like your privacy. Y/N..."
There's a beat of silence, and then everything is sweet. Mouthwatering. The scent of blood invades your senses. It's good. So good.
Your head snaps up, and Karlach has her knees bent, thumb out like she's telling you 'good job!' However, what catches your eyes is the cut on it–dripping blood onto the dirt between you two.
"I don't mind sharing...if you don't mind the heat."
It's an amusing sight for Karlach, you're sure, but you'd abandoned your pride long ago.
Well, more like 5 minutes ago–but can you blame a girl when she's starving?
You suck on her thumb like her blood is holy, eager to satiate your hunger. Karlach shivers, and you swear she grits her teeth, but you can't stop.
Her blood is intense, like chugging molten lava straight down your throat. Yet it doesn't actually burn. It tingles, it warms, it... rejuvenates you. Was this what it meant to drink from a thinking creature? Or was Karlach simply the best meal you'd ever had...?

you try out a new bar with some friends. it's great, except for the jerk. who spills his drink on you. but maybe it's not all bad... | fem!reader, meet cute, 1.5k
Your friends swore this was a good spot. The parking lot is almost always packed, but it's got cheap beer, nice staff, and clean bathrooms.
And, apparently, an entire squad of naval aviators. Who are rather loud and take up most of the usable space around the bar itself. A handful of guys and girls, all laughing and having a nice time. Only beautiful people are allowed in the Navy, it seems. After a round of drinks you brace yourself to squeeze by them to make your way to the bathroom.
"'Scuse me, sorry," you say. A blonde guy with glasses moves out of the way automatically and smiles at you. "Sorry, just gotta get to the bathroom." You're almost clear and then a pair of broad shoulders turns too quickly. Maybe he doesn't see you, maybe he thinks he's moving the right way, but suddenly you've got beer all over your shirt...your very pale, very thin shirt.
"Hey," you say, eyes on your chest.
"Nice one, Rooster," someone calls. You're too surprised to do much but stand there for a second, and then you look up to see which asshole spilled on you.
"Shut up, dude," he calls over his shoulder before turning to face you. Tall, sun-kissed skin and hair, the trademark Navy mustache, and wearing a fucking Hawaiian shirt and...sunglasses? Inside? No wonder he didn't see you. Idiot. He shoves said glasses on top of his head, eyes wide as they rake over you.
"Oh my god," he says. "Holy shit. I am so sorry." His friends aren't laughing at you, not really, but they are definetly amused at his mistake. One of them, the same guy who moved over for you, is flagging the bartender down for some rags.
You consider cursing him out, consider calling him an asshole, consider storming out of the bar. But what good would any of that do?
"Are you okay?" he asks. You come back to the moment and realize he's probably asked you more than once.
You grimace. "Uh, fine," you say. You want to be mad, you maybe shouldbe mad, but he seems genuinely rattled that he's dumped his beer on you and it really was a mistake. God knows you've been where he is before. But your shirt is rapidly becoming see-through so you give him a tight smile and high tail it to the bathroom.
It becomes clear that there's no hope for your shirt. You wipe the beer off of your neck and arms with wet paper towels and ring it out as best as you can. You doubt your friends saw what happened through the crowd because no one has come to rescue you yet, and you left your phone at the table.
"Good spot, my ass," you mutter. And then you hear a conversation that seems to be directly outside the bathroom door.
"Just go in there, please, Phoenix? I can't go in, obviously." Call signs, you think. They really are strange.
"Are you fucking serious right now, Rooster? You dragged me away from my drink for this?" You don't recognize that voice.
"Come on, her shirt was ruined! Just go in and give it to her, okay?" The bathroom door swings open and one of the women you saw at the bar storms in. She's got something purple slung over her shoulder.
"Uh, hi?" you say.
"Hi," she says. She sheds some of her stiff stance and smiles at you. "You okay?" she says.
You suppose that you could have been hurt -- that guy was pretty big. But he didn't knock you, or anything. Just...soaked you. "Yeah," you sigh. "Lost cause, though." You gesture to your shirt. She grimaces.
"Well, here." She tosses the thing over her shoulder at you and you catch it. "The big idiot who got you into this wanted me to give it to you." You hold it out in front of you and see that it's a t-shirt for the bar you're currently in. The Hard Deck is printed in neat script on the front and it seems like it'll be a bit big for you, but it'll work.
"Thanks," you say. She shrugs.
"No problem." Without another word she saunters out of the bathroom. You pop into a stall and change, dumping your beer-soaked shirt into the trash and head back out to find your friends.
The guy who spilled on you -- Rooster, you think -- is leaning on the wall across from the door. When you walk out he looks up sharply and stands up tall.
"Hey," he says, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, this is probably kind of creepy, waiting for you like this. I just wanted to make sure it fit? If not, I can get you another --"
You're tempted to let him keep going, but you put him out of his misery. "It's fine," you tell him. "Thank you."
The crease between his brows gets deeper. "No, don't thank me. I spilled all over you!" He looks so distressed that you laugh a little.
"Well, now you're down a beer and I got a free shirt, so I think I made out pretty good here." Rooster looks a little surprised and then chuckles in disbelief.
"Okay," he says, settling his hands on his hips. His biceps flex under his stupid shirt and you take notice. Okay, so the guy who poured beer on you is hot. So what? "Let me buy you a drink as my final act of repayment. If you want," he adds. "Then you can be done with me."
"Okay, sure," you say. He beams at you. "Rooster."
"Bradley," he says. "You can call me Bradley."
"Bradley,"  you repeat. He watches your mouth as you say it and then his grin turns into something a little different and your stomach swoops dangerously. You imagine that flying in one of his jets feels something like this.
You follow him back to the bar where his crew is hanging out and he orders you a beer.
"Don't worry," says a tall, blonde guy with a smirk. "We won't let him live this down. Ever." You let yourself look at Bradley's back as you shrug.
"Oh, good," you reply. "Because that was my favorite shirt."
Bradley whirls around, your beer in hand, though he holds it far from you. "Really?" he asks, sounding a shade away from heartbroken.
"No," you say, taking the drink from him. His fingers send tingles through you where they brush yours. "Thanks, Bradley!" And you head back to your table without a backwards glance to the sound of cheers and laughter behind you.
Your friends drag you back a week later. Well, you don't really get dragged. Let's say you're not exactly opposed to giving The Hard Deck another go. And sure enough, when you get there, you see the same crew of navy folks at the bar. You volunteer to get the drinks and your friends send you off with cheers.
The blonde guy with the smirk sees you first. "Hey!" he calls. At first you think he's talking to you, but then he turns to the group. "Rooster, it's your girl!"
"She came back!" says someone else.
"Don't scare her away, Rooster!"
Your stomach flips a little and you remember the moment with Bradley by the bathroom. Clearly you've become squad gossip, but you find that you don't mind all that much.
Sure enough, Rooster appears, sans sunglasses and in a plain shirt this time. He slides up next to you at the bar and beams. You can't help but beam back. Clearly he's glad to see you and it makes you even gladder to see him.
"Well, hey," he says. He makes a show of putting his beer on the counter before stepping even closer to you.
"Hi," you say. "Spill on anyone lately?" He sucks on his teeth like he's thinking, tapping his long fingers on the bar top.
"Yeah, actually," he says. His gaze rakes over your face before settling on your eyes. "This really pretty girl last week."
Someone scoffs and you look away from him to see the bartender rolling her eyes are she washes a glass, but Bradley keeps going. "But I didn't get her name." He takes a small step closer to you, the hand on the bar sliding so that it's resting by your elbow. "And I was hoping she'd come back so I could ask for it."
You bite the inside of your cheek to keep your smile from taking over your face. "Were you now?" you say. "And what would you do if you got it?"
He shrugs. His forearm brushes yours. "Well, I think I'd ask her if I could buy her a drink. Without spilling anything on her, first, obviously."
You laugh. He leans more on the counter, slouching sideways so much so that his neck is totally on display. You have a flash of what it would be like to trace the vein by his adam's apple. He looks smug but you decide to allow it.
"Alright," you say. You tell him your name and he mouths it silently before saying it out loud, just once.
"Perfect," he says, standing up straight again and turning to the bartender, bumping your hip gently with his. "Penny, another beer, please."
Yeah, you think. Maybe it is.

Remus Lupin x Reader First Time Smut Oneshot
*18+*
I do another quick look in the mirror before heading down to the common room. The party had already started a little bit ago but I took forever picking out the right outfit. I find my way to grab a hard cider and shuffle around all the already sweaty moving bodies to find my friends. I slip right in and listen in on their conversation.
"Look Moony all we're saying is find someone and hook up, you're the last one, we've all done it, even Pete managed to do it before you!" Sirius laugh and the others join in. I watch as Remus rolls his eyes in annoyance.
"I don't care about that as much as you idiots do," Remus defends, but I could tell he didn't mean it as much as he pretended to.
"Oh leave him alone," I chuckle and butt in. I do my best to laugh it off but I also haven't lost my virginity yet but I can't let the guys find out because they'll never let me live it down. I've told them I've hooked up with this guy on holiday to cover for myself. I just hope they don't catch my lie.
"Well, why don't you sleep with him y/n, since you have soooo much experience," Sirius says wiggling his eyebrows. I feel my cheeks flush but laugh a bit and look at my feet.
"Shut up Sirius, I don't need your help getting laid, why don't you worry about yourself," Remus groans annoyed with how they are still stuck on this topic.
"Don't worry about me mate, I've got my eye on Mary, think we're gonna go all night long," Sirius says cockily. I roll my eyes at them.
"God Sirius you're such a dog," Remus scoffs annoyed, and walks off from the group. I feel bad and watch him walk off and go get another drink.
"That's not nice Sirius, you shouldn't push him so hard," James says because he feels a bit bad but they were all just joking, Sirius just takes it too far. I walk off to go to Remus and put my hand on his shoulder, "Hey Remus, are you alright?"
"Peachy," Remus mutters sarcastically.
"You know, only if you'd want to of course I wouldn't be opposed to...," I blush starting to bring it up.
"It's alright I don't need pity sex from you," Remus says turning away to walk away, thinking I came to tease him and hook up with him as some weird plan from the other guys.
"No, Remus," I say and grab his arm to stop him so he turns around. "You see, uh, I'm a /virgin/ too," I say quietly.
"No, you're not, you told us you did it with that bloke over holiday."
"I lied Remus, I was embarrassed because everyone else already had," I sigh.
"Oh..." Remus relaxes and puts his drink down, "Do you really want to?"
I blush harder nodding, "This way we can both get it over with, but only if it won't make things weird between us."
"And you're completely sure you want to?" Remus asks in a lower voice so no one can hear our conversation even though most of the people are already drunk. I nod and watch Remus's face as he thinks, "We can go to my dorm, the guys are all down here and I'm sure they won't be up for hours." I nod and feel a bit nervous but follow him up the stairs to his dorm. I go and sit at the edge of his bed as I watch him close and lock the door behind us. I sit nervously shuffling my hands around in my lap and watch him walk over and sit next to me. "Is it okay if I kiss you, or do you want to start it," he asks nervously.
"Don't be so nervous Remus, I've never seen you so nervous. You can kiss me," I blush. I feel Remus scoot a bit closer and take a deep breath to calm his nerves before he cups his face and pull me into slow, gentle kiss. I push my body in a bit closer trying to close off some more space between us and kiss back with a bit more pressure than he has to let me know its okay. I feel as his body softens, relaxing into the kiss and he lets his tongue lightly graze over my bottom lip. A soft whimper escapes my lips and open my mouth, allowing us to deepen the kiss and let our tongues collide. I let my hands come out of my lap and scoot my body even closer and rest my hands in his lap for balance, if I moved any closer I would have to readjust my body to straddle him. Remus lets out a soft low groan, turning me on. I feel my cheeks grow red as a wet warm spot grows between my legs. My need for friction or pressure is slowly becoming more and more and I want to move myself into his lap. I break the kiss and let my forehead rest against his and let my lips graze his as I speak,
"Can I straddle you Remus?" I ask softly.
"Of course," Remus says quietly but his voice sounds course, like he's been trying to hold back groans. I carefully get on top of him and straddle him. I slowly rest all my weight onto him but keep my hips hovered just a bit worried about putting all my weight on him. This was solved quickly as Remus lets his hands grip my waist and pushes me onto him and brings his lips back to mine kissing me passionately like we never stopped. I whimper softly into the kiss and slowly roll my hips to grind on him. I move myself on him slowly at first, worrying I am doing it wrong but pick up my pace and grind on him shamelessly as I hear all the low growls leave his throat. "Oh y/n" he groans gripping my hips to a halt, "stop before I cum" he says breathlessly. I blush and nod and watch as he slides his hands under my ass and flips us, moving us to the center of the bed. I look up at him blushing and his cheeks have a tinge of pink too and his lips are red and swollen but that doesn't stop him from leaning down and kissing me again, this time with tongue straight away. We let our hands wander each other's bodies and keep kissing each other, our kisses growing hungrier and hungrier.
"Please touch me, Remus," I whimper needy into the kiss. I arch my body to meet his hand as it slides down my torso and to my thigh. He slides his hand up my inner thigh into my skirt and pushes my soaking wet panties to the side and slips two fingers in. My breath hitches and I whimper softly at the feeling.
"Is this okay?" Remus asks me breaking the kiss and whispering in my ear. "Y-yes," I stutter and nod and throw my head back a bit as he starts to pump his fingers and curling them, hitting my g-spot. "Oh Remus," I moan softly and buck my hips into his hand and he starts pumping his fingers faster and brings his kisses to my jaw and down my neck, leaving soft, small bites on the way to my collarbones. I bite my lip to hold back moans and feel myself getting close with every curl if his fingers that hits my G-spot. "F-fuck Remus, stop I'm c-close," I moan out softly because I am a bit embarrassed to say it out loud. Remus stops instantly and takes his finger out and sucks them clean. I turn bright red watching him in disbelief.
"You taste so sweet, y/n," Remus says in a whisper into my ear. My whole body shudders when his hot breath hits my skin.
"Oh Remus," I whimper, "fuck me." I feel a small smirk grow on his face against my skin and watch as he gets up and goes to Sirius's bedside table and steals a condom. I watch as he undresses himself with shaky hands and rolls on the condom and get a bit nervous because I don't know what it will feel like and hope it won't hurt. In the meantime, I slip off my skirt and soaked panties and slowly slip off my sweater and undo my bra and lay back down covering myself slightly.
Remus gets back on top and I watch as his eyes wander my body, "oh y/n, you're so perfect," he says with a slight blush on his face. I look up at him with big eyes and blush at his compliment. I watch Remus as he slowly lines up, "Tell me when you're ready okay?". I nod, "I'm ready just go slow," I say and watch as he nods and slowly slides his tip in. I whimper as I feel myself stretching around his tip and it burns but it hurts in a good way. "Keep going," I whimper and moan softly as Remus slowly fills me with his length but doesn't thrust yet letting me adjust myself to his size. After a couple of moments shifting myself to fit him better Remus starts to move slowly. Low groans and grunts slip from his lips and I whimper and moan loving the feeling but it hurts at the same time. The stretching feeling slowly begins to stop and now all I feel is pleasure and let soft gentle moans fall from my lips. "Oh Remus, you're so big," I moan.
"You feel so good y/n," Remus groans and slides a hand down to rub my clit in circles sending me over the edge.
"Oh fuck Remus," I moan and cum hard on his cock. I ride my orgasm out as Remus grips my hips and goes harder as his head falls back showing off his Adam's apple and curses slip his tongue and his lower half shakes as he cums. After a couple of sloppy thrusts, as he rides out his climax, he plops next to me and we both lay down side by side panting.
"Did you like that?" Remus asks nervously breaking the silence. I blush and roll to face him and nod. "Me too," Remus blushes. I peck his lips and get up after a bit and get dressed.
"Maybe we can do that again," I say blushing, and fix myself up.
"Definitely," Remus says getting dressed, and gives me a quick peck before we go back downstairs to the party.

DBF!Javier Peña x Plus Size Reader ft. Marcus Pike

warnings: implied smut (nothing too descriptive), reader is plus sized/fat, readers got tig ole bitties (no skeeter bites in this house), wedding, inspired by s10e12 of greys anatomy, javi being a bit of a douche, marcus being a sweetie pie, not beta read

song inspo: Ardiente Tentación by Sentidos Opuestos

"Whatcha doing pretty girl?” Marcus whispered in your ear, placing a kiss on your sweet spot. You giggled like an idiot as you turned your head and pecked his lips.
“Working on invitations for the rehearsal dinner.”
“You know we could have hired someone to do all the planning.”
“Yeah but I like doing it myself.” Marcus chuckled, knowing when it came to things like this you always preferred to do it yourself. He glanced over the scattered invitations on your desk and let out a small hum.
“What?” you asked, looking back up at him.
“Don't see your dad anywhere.”
Things were… complicated. After you had moved away, you stopped talking to your family. It was nothing against them but you just needed a fresh start. Sounds harsh but it really helped. After a few months you decided to reach out and check in on everyone. Your mother was happy to hear from you- nearly cried and wept the entire phone call. But your dad didn't wanna hear what you had to say. He sure did speak his mind though- calling you selfish for leaving and not looking back, saying how much of a disappointment you were because you wanted to follow your dreams and not his.
“Haven't spoken to him since I left and before you say anything I don't plan on it.”
“Okay okay I won't… How about you take a break?”
“Marcus I don't have-” you were cut off by him picking you up from your chair and getting tossed over his shoulder like a sack of taters.
“Marcus what are you doing?” you yelled out as you gripped onto the back of his work shirt.
“Gonna make my fiancé feel good till she can't walk anymore.”
— • —
You sat at the table next to Marcus, talking to your friends as Marcus talked to his. The rehearsal dinner was going great- everyone was enjoying themselves and everything was going as planned. Until you felt Marcus reach over and gently squeeze the inside of your thick ass thigh.
“What is it baby?” you asked, looking over at him. He didn't say anything and just motioned over to the entryway of the venue. You looked over and saw your dad standing there.
“Want me to take care of it?” Marcus asked, gently stroking his thumb up and down the skin of your thigh.
“No I got it…” you excused yourself from the table and walked over to him.
“Hey sweetie…”
“I didn't invite you.”
“No but your mom-” you scoffed and rolled your eyes. Ever since you told her your dad wanted nothing to do with you she'd been trying to mend things between you two. You expected her to go above and beyond for the two of you to talk but you never thought she'd invite him to the rehearsal dinner. You're starting to remember why you moved away and cut off communication with everyone here.
“Dad there's a reason why-”
“Hey I got the car parked."
The sound of his voice knocked you back a few steps. It's like you were face to face with a damn ghost.
Javier fucking Peña.
He looked the same but older. He still had his mustache but he'd grown his hair out a bit. As much as you hated to admit this to yourself he still looked fine as hell.
“Hola hermosa.” he smirked. “I know we weren't invited but thought we could drop by and say hi.”
Cocky asshole.
“Hi.” you flashed a fake smile. “Now you can leave.”
“Cmon hermosa don't be like that. Just one drink and we'll leave.” he walked closer to you, tucking a loose strand of your hair behind your ear. “Promise.”
To this day you couldn't understand why or how Javier had you eating out of the palm of his hand. Even after all this time- even after being with Marcus and on the verge of marrying him, it still worked.
“One drink and you're gone. Both of you.”
“Honey…” Marcus whispered in your ear. “Gonna take your dad home.”
You looked up and over at your dad. Just as you suspected the “one drink” turned into almost running the venue dry. You looked around, trying to find Javi so he can take your dad back home since he was the one who brought him here, but he was nowhere to be seen.
“Thank you baby… I'll take care of everything here and I'll see you at the wedding?”
He smiled, leaning down and kissing you gently.
“See you at the wedding almost-Mrs Pike.” he kissed you one more time before getting up and escorting your dad out the venue.
You got up and walked around the venue, making sure everyone got home safe. Once everyone was gone you were alone in the venue, collecting the last of your things before leaving.
“So you're getting married huh?” he called out. You turned around and nodded.
“Yeah. He makes me happy. Something you could never do.”
Javi chuckled, wiping the corner of his mouth with his thumb. “I made you happy hermosa. Had you always begging for more.”
You rolled your eyes. “I had a weak moment..”
“Weak moment? Amor I hate to break it to you but that weak moment lasted almost 2 years.”
“I have to go.” you pushed past him, walking out of the venue and over to your car. He followed you, spinning you around and pressing your body up against your car, crashing his lips onto yours.
You wanted to pull away. Everything in your body was screaming to pull away or knee him in the balls. But you didn't. It was like you stepped into a time machine and went back to sitting on his couch, all sweaty because of him.
You reached behind you, opening the door and climbing in with him.
“Tell me if you wanna stop…” he whispered in between kisses. He reached around and unzipped your dress, slipping the straps off your shoulders and exposing your huge tits.
“Mierda los extrañé…” (Fuck I missed them) he whispered, leaning down and taking one of your nipples in his mouth, his tongue swirling around in circles. You arched your back, moaning at his touch.
Stop. Pull away. This is wrong.
If it's so wrong then why does it feel so right?
— • —
You looked at yourself in the mirror, your fingers rubbing over the delicate fabric of the white dress. It was beautiful. It outlines every detail of your soft body- every curve, every love handle. Your tits practically spilled out of the sweetheart neckline. One wrong move and you'd have a nip slip. You didn't care. You were getting married to the love of your life…
A knock pulled your attention away from the mirror. You turned around and there he was.
“Te ves linda…” (You look beautiful…) Javi muttered.
“What are you doing here Jav?”
“Wanted to wish you luck.” he walked closer and tucked your veil into your hair, pulling the front side over your face. “Now you look like a bride…”
“Yeah a bride who cheated before she even got married…”
“Think of it as… your last fuck as a single woman.” he placed a soft kiss on your temple. “Happy wedding day.” with that he walked out of the room. You turned back around and looked at yourself in the mirror.
Fucking Javier Peña…
You walked down the aisle, eyes instantly going to Marcus. His heart swelled at the sight of you walking towards him. Tears filled his eyes. His dreams were coming true. Dream job, beautiful woman as his wife. Everything was perfect. You stepped in front of him and held his hands. He reached down and pulled the vail over your head.
“God you look beautiful baby…” he sniffed, few tears rolling down his cheeks.
“And you look so handsome honey..” you reached up and wiped his tears away.
You both stood there, staring into each other's eyes as you listened to the ordained minister talk his speech. Right before you switched rings with Marcus, the minister asked one question.
“Should anyone present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony? Speak now or forever hold your peace.”
He was in the far back, close to the door. He stood up.
“I love you.” Javi blurted out, grabbing everyone's attention. He slowly started to walk down the aisle getting closer. “I love you hermosa. I always have. And I always will.”
You turned and faced him, too stunned to speak.
“Run away with me. We can leave right now.” he walked up to you, taking your hands out of Marcus’ hands. “What do you say?”

authors note ❥ I'm genuinely so sorry for not popping this baby out months ago I just genuinely fell uninterested in writing for a bit. I'll try and be better about it 😞 With school coming up it's gonna be hard though, my apologies you guys. 🙏 My requests are still open for those who are interested, I will look at them and I will write them(eventually) but plzz be patient I'm a lazy ho🤕 thx guys! 🩷
Tumblr media
・At first glance its like your eyes have been met with an angel. The face of a model stuffed into the teenage cheerleader that everyone had googly eyes for. It wasn't easy being you, and a lonely greaser had to find that out the hard way.
・JOHNNY, spotted staring at you in gym as you cheer. The sweet but loud voice you carried as you cheered. It was intriguing to him. The poor boy couldn't help it.
"Go team go!" You chant with the rest of your pyramid, you weren't a flyer today but you were always so enthusiastic. Johnny's prying eyes were caught on your face, then your uniform. He thought about your voice a lot too. Like his miniature cheerleader up in his noggin. He liked the way you smiled, the way you presented yourself to everyone. You were genuine to who you were, and most importantly you were passionate about it.
・First few weeks of interaction had him freaking OUT. He was so amazed by you he wanted to hold you in his pocket forever. Head over heels and for the most gorgeous, kind and spirited person on campus? Lonely boy had to make a move and fast because there were people scavenging for you and he had to make sure he was first in line.
・Anyways,
・Johnny likes watching you practice. Not because of the way your skirt flows in the breeze when its windy sometimes but because he gets to see you smile and laugh and talk and oh my gosh he just can't.
・Always attending games JUST to see you. In your pretty outfit and your pretty dolled up face he melts!!!!!!!!! Getting pelted by rocks in the stands never felt more worth it.
"How's my pretty baby?" Johnny walks up to you, smiling with a teddy bear and water bottle in hand. You grab the gifts and hug him close. "Great with you here Johnny." You relax in his arms. While drinking some of your water you caress his cheek, kissing his lips gently before being called over again. Intermission was over. "Mm I'll see you in a bit okay?" You smile, squeezing his hand in your own. "Go be beautiful I'll be right here." He grins, pressing a swift kiss to your hand. Literally not long after Johnny is being assaulted with kettle corn, ketchup packets and rocks.
・Likes looking at you. It makes him a little anxious though because you're so pretty he doesn't want anyone stealing you from him or you finding someone else. He knows you could have anyone you want yet you choose him, and stay with him. That reassures him for a little bit before he goes back to freaking out and watching you at all times. (It's endearing but when it goes too far it gets scary, girl run.)
・But he just loves you so much like?? Don't you ever leave that man because he will treat you like a princess no doubt.
"Johnny─you've been staring at me for like...twenty minutes are you okay?" Hes just fucking drooling looking like an idiot as his eyes burn through your skull. He thinks your so pretty bro im not joking around. That boy worships the ground you walk on. He's like─"Yes queen!!! Eat them up queen!!!" He will never get bored of staring.
・Broseph gets insecure :-( tell him u love him or so help me I will😠😠 I feel like he generally has bad self esteem issues deep down. He likes it when you kiss him and tell him he's handsome. He won't do "pretty" because it makes him feel less of a man. But you're just speaking your mind...he is pretty like... He still gets a lil grumpy and hostile but its okay just keep saying he's cool n stuff and he'll be right by you in no time with no avail!
・Big time intimidation game with the rest of your clique, he puffs his chest and stuff but never will that man act on a buff jock. He will definitely kick on Kirby though he don't gaf about that weenie.
・His clique loves you no lie, they think your sweet eye candy and your really nice and funny?? Johnny really hit the jackpot yknow. I wouldn't be joking if I said at least one of them tried seducing you or hitting you up which lead to Johnny demolishing their face against the wooden boards of the fence! Yikes!
・Love u so much... Like I already said this shit but that boy ooof, he's all over you all the time.
"Baby, Johnny!" You giggled as he kissed along your neck and collarbone, exposed by the cheer outfit you wore. He was so gentle but so eager, his lips dragging across your pretty skin so delicately. It was delicious, the pretty boy kissing all on you while you sat there, late for cheer practice, again. He trailed his kisses upwards, landing them up back to your plush lips. "You're so gorgeous sweetheart, makes my heart hurt." He muttered against your lips, leaning in for a another. You were warm all over, holding his face in your hands as you made out behind the school.
・I'm really just running out of things to say because this request seemed similar to the last one.
・Yes it took me fucking months to write this I'm a procrastinator level one hundred and I'm a fat lazy bum.

OMG!! run away part two please?
run away / Marc Guiu / PART 2
Summary: Marc x girlfriend!reader - Things have gone wrong, but searching for a solution seems difficult. Angst.
Warnings: getting drunk to ease pain, mention of sex, smoking, censored swearing, mention of being touched sexually by strangers, vomiting, headache, despair, mention of suicide
Requested?: Uh huh
Author's Note: Gosh sorry this kind of looks really dark. Link to part 1
Yes. It's like how everything was, years ago.
It's like how everything was before him.
Your Marc, who now you're avoiding like the plague.
You're a wreck, and you know it, and you'll admit it. But you've been here before, so no matter how terrible it is, and how much you hate it, at least you know you can make it through.
Hopefully.
You blocked Marc's number, and everyone else's and you're alone.
Literally.
You have no one to rely on, and nothing to get you through but alcohol.
Well, you do have a new friend, but not a real friend. She's just the kind of person who has sex with every guy who's half hot and smokes cigarettes to look sexy. The kind that will tell you to indulge, let loose, calm down. Try something new and risky, and stop caring about what your conscience says in the morning.
Now she stands, arms crossed, leaning against the cold outdoor wall of the club you hate going to but still end up at anyway, covered in sweat and glitter, taking a long drag from her cigarette.
You don't even ask about the glitter.
"I saw I guy you might be into in there. Come on. I know your cash for the week is out, but I'll buy you a couple more drinks. I think you'll have fun with him."
You frown. "I don't want to mess with some guy."
"You'll feel f*cking better. Isn't that what you want?"
"I don't know," you murmur breathy, hitting your head against the back of the wall.
"Well either have some fun and wash your tears down with alcohol or actually get your life in order, because clearly you're miserable in this in-between place," she comments casually, blowing smoke out through her mouth.
You swallow. You know it's not right, but you let her take your hand and drag you back in the club. You let yourself drink all you want. You let yourself lose your mind like the idiot you are. You let men touch you that you would never, ever let sober.
But it's all in the name of fun, right?
Maybe you're choosing to run away from your problems, but maybe it's more fun that way.
And having fun is all that matters.
Right?
You stumble out of the club, not even aware of how used you've been, how disgusting you should feel. You don't even know where you're going, because your "friend" left you when some creep was touching you however he liked, and there's no way you're getting a taxi now, even if you could, since all your money is out.
You can't go to your parents like this, and you've sworn off ever seeing Marc again, which means the only thing you can do is either fall asleep in some alley or somehow walk yourself back to your one room apartment.
You trip on the curb and bend over, practically mindlessly vomiting into a storm drain, and are about to keep walking when suddenly, there are strong arms wrapping around you from behind.
It's nighttime. You're drunk. You're in a bad part of the city.
You gasp and scream, aimlessly thrashing, tears that constantly threaten to fall beginning to stream down your face, "Let go of me! Help!"
But suddenly you freeze, when you hear a familiar voice practically shout in your ear, "Calm down! It's just me!"
You breathe a little slower and calm down, putting your hand on the strong around wrapped around your middle. You know that voice. It's someone good, you think. Someone who wants to help you.
The person gently turns you around, and you freeze when you see who it is.
"Marc... Let go..." you breathe, your vision wobbly.
"No..." he breathes, and the last thing you remember is the horrified look in his glimmering eyes.
Your eyes slowly blink open, and you know you've been here before.
You're laying on Marc's couch, in his living room, in his home.
Emotions hit you like a bullet train. Guilt, fear, regret, anger, despair.
You groan softly as you sit up, becoming aware of your pounding headache. You're still wearing the tight, uncomfortable clothes from last night, and as those cursed memories come flooding back, all you want to do is tear off the wretched clothes and wash off all that shame in a warm bath.
But the first thing you have to do is get the f*ck out of Marc's home.
You can't admit to yourself that Marc is the answer. After how much he hurt you? He can't be.
You don't know what the answer is, and you know it's not what you're doing right now, either.
You're starting to think there is no answer.
And then you look up, to see him walking in. He's so strong and perfect. Literally no blemishes. Perfect body, perfect hair, perfect, face, perfect everything.
Perfect, perfect, perfect.
Nothing like you.
But not a perfect personality, you remind yourself.
But just being in the presence of him, and knowing how he saw you last night- the shame is almost too much to bear.
Marc sits down next to you and takes your shaking hand, which you don't like.
"We never officially broke up, you know. We just had that argument, and you left, and cut me off completely. You disappeared, Y/n. Not even your parents knew where you were..."
You look up, and see the pain in his eyes.
Oh God.
"Y/n," he says softly. His voice quivers slightly. "I didn't know if you were alive... And..." You're surprised to hear his voice crack. "I thought that could have been my f*cking fault."
You stare, mouth hanging open. On the first few tries, you can't even speak, before you manage softly, "You thought... I killed myself?"
He sticks his thumb and pointer finger in his eyes seeming to be pushing the tears to stay inside as he slowly nods. "I didn't think it... I just worried... maybe..."
He swallows hard, and you see the tiredness in his eyes now.
Suddenly, just like that, you break down. You bury your face in your hands in start crying. About how terrible you've been, and about how terrible you feel, and about how much you still can't imagine staying with Marc.
It's not like you don't cry often. But you never run out of tears, either. You're not sure if you love Marc's hand slowly rubbing your back or hate it.
Finally you swallow gaining more control of yourself, and Marc gives your back a little pat, saying, "Those close don't look very comfy. I'll get you some."
So soon you sit, staring tear-stained and vacantly ahead, warmed by Marc's clothes on the outside, but cold as stone in your heart.
"You're the one who started this all, anyway..." you breathe, barely a whisper, hating the words coming out of your mouth. "What if I had killed myself? Maybe you f*cking deserve that pain."
He holds his face in his hands now. Sits next to you silently for a few second, before saying, his voice cracking, "Oh, God..."
"Well?" you stare, face hard.
He swallows and says, "I'm sorry... I love y-"
"If you did, you wouldn't have-"
"I do love you! In a relationship, we're going to have to work through things! If you refuse-"
"Shut up!" you suddenly scream, plugging your ears and letting out a dry sob.
When you unplug your ears, you can hear Marc breathing heavily. He keeps his face buried in his hands, but you're not stupid. You know he's crying. Then he mutters through tears, "I don't want to hurt you. But you'll be harmed even more if we don't work through this. We can't pretend it's all okay. And running away won't do you any good, either."
You stare ahead, silent.
"I know I'm in the wrong, too," he breathes, his voice cracking. "Y/n, I thought you f*cking killed yourself. That's what I was worried about. Panicking about. That because I was a bad boyfriend, you killed yourself. I've thought about what I've been doing wrong. I have. I'm too harsh with you sometimes. A lot. I start discussions at the wrong times. Instead of arguing, we should be discussing. I should be gentler with you. You're delicate."
"No I'm f*cking not," you whisper.
"Yes, you are. And it's okay. You've been through a lot. We're all f*cking fragile. I just want to take care of you. Help you. Keep you from cracking, breaking more." He swallows. "But not discussing anything isn't how to do that. Discussions will help us grow. Facing problems will help them be fixed. Ignoring them, turning your back to them, will just make it easier for them to catch us off guard when we're not looking. Then our relationship really will be ruined." He hesitates, before finishing with, "Don't you f*cking see we need each other? You're a wreck without me, and I'm a wreck without you. We both need f*cking therapy, but the first step is communication."
You nod slowly, hesitantly, before whispering, "Why do you still want me?"
"What do you mean?"
"After seeing me so drunk and disgusting and-"
"Because I f*cking love you."
Just those words hit you like a shot to the heart.
You breath in sharply.
But then you stand up, murmuring, "Can- Can I get going now?" You start heading from the door.
"No!" he suddenly says, rushing to grab your arm. He turns you around and buries you in the biggest, warmest, most loving hug you've ever felt.
And he buries his face in your shoulder.
His voice cracks again as he murmurs into you, in pure desperation, "Please, Y/n. Stay. For your own good. I need you."
You swallow, slowly, awkwardly, weakly wrapping your arms around him back.
What other option do I have?
What good am I really getting out of the stupid clubbing? Every night I have fun, but every morning I'm sick.
"I just want to wake up content and go to bed content," you whisper.
He squeezes you tighter. "If we work on it, someday, we can reach that. We can. Together. Please."
You swallow.
He's my last and only chance.
You swallow and nod. "Alright, Marc," you breathe. "May- Maybe. Yes. Just, please... don't break me."
"Not in a million years," he breathes, and you feel like he might never let go of you.

Greater Good
@whumpril Day 5: Reckless
CW: exhaustion, self-blame, difficulty breathing, mentions of being choked
continuation of yesterday's entry: Aftershock
Medic was unconscious for less than a minute. It felt like no time at all for them, but it was evidently enough time for half the medical tent to have panic attacks and the acting head of medicine to take a personal interest (or more accurately, personal frustration) in their case.
"Oh good, you're back with us." the Medical Director huffed when Medic's eyes fluttered open, flinching as the Director rubbed some sickly sweet gel on their gums less than gently. They were lying on the cot Whumpee and Caretaker had previously been occupying. They were both still nearby. Someone had found a chair for Whumpee to sit in at Medic's feet, and Caretaker was looking worryingly at Medic over Director's shoulder.
"What happened?"
Medic weakly pushed Director's hand away from them and licked away the gel in their mouth. Their voice was raspy suddenly, and lying down was making breathing harder than before. But the ceiling of the tent was still swaying above them so Medic didn't risk trying to sit up.
"Low blood sugar?"
"Among other things." Director growled "You're blood oxygen is even lower, and I'm betting those bruises on your neck have something to do with it. Drink this."
They shoved an apple juice into Medic's hand and left their line of sight. Caretaker glared after Director before helping Medic to sit up so they could drink the juice. Swallowing the liquid was difficult, and Medic had to take tiny sips to tolerate the pain of it.
"I thought I told you to take a break after that incident." Director began to scold Medic as they drank. "What happened?"
"I was going to," Medic rasped "But Whumpee walked in right afterwards and..." They trailed off, not wanting, or feeling the need to continue. Whumpee gave Medic an apologetic smile and reached out to pat their foot comfortingly. They opened their mouth as though they were going to say something but Director plowed on before they got the chance.
"And when was the last time you ate? You're not diabetic or hypoglycemic, so you shouldn't be having a low blood sugar unless you're starving."
"I had one of the protein bars the volunteers passed out."
That seemed to be the last straw for Director.
"That was the last time you ate!" They yelled. "That was over a day ago! Medic! How could you be so reckless and irresponsible! People's lives were in your hands you idiot! You can't help anyone else if you're not taking care of yourself. What if you passed out while treating someone! What if you passed out while doing that surgery on that asshole's wife! He would have actually killed you, and you would have deserved it! -"
It sounded like Director was going to continue but Caretaker abruptly interrupted. Standing up so fast Medic got dizzy again, and placing a hand firmly on Director's chest.
"Stop it!"
In all the years Medic had known Director, they had never heard anyone speak that way to them. Director was the kind of person who commanded respect, even if they didn't entirely deserve it. Medic should have known they'd meet their match with Caretaker though. They were always looking for a fight, one way or another.
"They don't deserve to be talked to like that. We've just had an earthquake. Their friend was missing, and they've been working none stop without sleep for two days. Of courses Medic isn't thinking straight. It took them nearly being killed to get offered a break for God's sake! And no one has tried to provide the doctors food other than a few protein bars? Not to mention relief isn't due for another day. If anything you're being the reckless one. You're people are going to start dropping like flies soon if you keep this treatment up."
Medic's heart broke for Caretaker in that moment. As tough as their love could be at times, they were the most loyal friend Medic had. They were always the first to come to Medic's defense, no matter the situation. After two days of being blamed for everything under the sun (including in at least one circumstance, the sun itself), it was nice that someone was finally trying to stand up for them. But in this instance, it was an ill-founded defense.
"Caretaker," Medic reached out and tugged at Caretaker's wrist before they could continue admonishing Director. "It's not Director's fault. We were given breaks, I just skipped them."
Everyone stared at Medic with wide eyed expressions. Whumpee seemed to be coming down from their adrenaline and looked too tired to be anything more than surprised by Medic's admission. Director looked like they were going to start yelling again if they weren't already leaning away from Caretaker like a scared animal. Probably a good idea since Caretaker looked like they were going to hit which ever one of the two spoke first. Luckily for the both of them, it was Whumpee.
"Why?"
Medic took as deep a breathe as they could manage and trained their eyes on Whumpee because they didn't want to look at the other two.
"I wasn't going to be able to sleep with you unaccounted for, and I wasn't allowed to join the search parties during my breaks. All I could do to distract myself was to keep busy. And people just kept coming in. And the injuries kept getting worse. They needed as many hands as they could get. So I just kept telling myself it was for the greater good."
Medic cut themselves off. Their tired, oxygen deprived brain hadn't comprehended their words until it was too late. Quickly they snapped their head back to Caretaker and Director. Director looked, surprisingly, somewhat sympathetic to Medic's explanation. It was impossible to tell Caretaker's expression however as they had buried their face in their hands. Medic was certain though that they were both thinking about the same thing. The last thing Caretaker had yelled at them before marching out of the tent to go searching for Whumpee two days before.
God damn you and your greater good mentality! If that's how you feel, you better save every God damn person you touch until Whumpee is found!
"Oh Medic" Caretaker mumbled into their hands. It sounded like an apology. A moment later they lowered their hands and turned away Medic, not quickly enough to hide the tears in their eyes.
"I think we can agree Medic can't work in their condition." They told Director in a much softer voice than they'd addressed them in previously. "I'm going to take them both home to rest. When will you need Medic back here?"
As Director and Caretaker began to discuss what Caretaker should be doing to care for their friends, Medic watched Whumpee, who seemed to be getting a little more color in their face, even as their eyes were drooping and they were listing to the side, loosing themselves to exhaustion. Medic could relate. Now that it seemed final that they were not going to be working anymore today, they could also feel their eyes getting heavy, and all the pain they had been ignoring for the past few days was seeping in. They knew Caretaker was probably going to yell at them again when they were feeling better, and there was a strong possibility that Director was going to discipline them once this was all over, but all they could feel now was relief.
