"i'm grown, hawk, and if i fall behind — which i haven't — then it'll be my fault, not yours. besides, i can't flunk out, i've got to learn everything i can so i can keep you patched up after all of your big adventures." astrid offered him a gentle smile.

"there's a fuckin' difference!" that's all he could really say. or yell. but the way she faltered, he knew. he knew her way too well. shaking his head, he slumped against the wall and then picked at the shaggy rug. "see? you're fallin' behind, aren't ya? fuck." he groaned and let his head hang low. "astro, i'm fuckin' up your life. just 'cause i'm selfish and let you follow me around. one day, you won't be able to manage. and when it all wears away, you're gonna regret stickin' with me."
