Steven Hyde x Reader

A/N: The part is finally here! THE PARENTS FIND OUT. I hope you enjoy this part! Geez, I can’t believe we’re already 18 parts in! And I’m not even done lol with all this information I want to put in the story, there maybe a bit more. Let me know what you all think! By the way, CONGRATULATIONS TO WILMER VALDERAMA FOR THR BIRTH OF HIS DAUGHTER! What a beautiful baby!!

Kitty sat there, staring at her daughter with an unreadable expression. Was she angry? Disappointed? Murderous? Y/n couldn’t bear to make eye contact with her, so she kept her gaze down.

“So,” Kitty said, clearing her throat. “Pregnant, huh?”

Y/n nodded, flitting her eyes to Kitty who was calmly messing with her ring.

“How far along are you?”

“Bout a month.”

“And does Steven know?”

“Yes, he—wait, what?” This time Y/n snapped her gaze to Kitty who was staring at her down with a stoic expression.

“I said does Steven know?” Kitty repeated and placed her fist underneath her chin. “Does he know that he is the father?”

All Y/n could do was stare at her mother in disbelief as her brain suddenly stopped working. The gears in her head froze as she felt her hands go numb. “What—how—uh, when did you—why would you—wait, what? Steven’s not the father.”

“Oh, no need to get all fussy and lie to me,” Kitty said and chuckled and got up to start a pot of tea. “I’ve known for weeks.”

“You what?” Y/n asked in complete disbelief. “How did you find out?!”

“Oh, please, I’m not stupid. You kids are terrible at keeping secrets.” She grabbed two mugs and placed two teabags in them, then reached up to get the honey. “It’s obvious that you two have gotten much closer in the recent months and besides—I’ve seen you two lay a smooch on each other in a time or two.”

“Oh, God,” Y/n mumbled, covering her hot and flushed face. “Well, if you knew, why didn’t you say anything?!”

“Because I wanted you to come to me yourself,” Kitty answered as if it was obvious and poured the hot water into the mugs. “You’re eighteen now. You make that decision to date whoever you want.”

Kitty set the mugs down on the table in front of them.

“If that’s true then why were you telling me that I shouldn’t and can’t date him?”

“Because of your father,” she responded and took a sip of her tea. “You know how he is.”

“Oh, God, does he know?”

“Oh, heavens no,” Kitty responded and waved her hand. “If he does, he’s in denial.”

“He’s going to kill us,” Y/n groaned and covered her eyes with her hand that wasn’t holding the mug.

“Well, we need to find a way to ease into it,” Kitty said. “The last thing we want is to give him another heart attack. Because let’s be honest, this one will kill him.”

“So, what do you suggest?”

“Well, we could liquor him up,” she responded. “That way, he’ll be mad, but not enough to kill him.”

“Wow, Mom. It sounds like you’ve done this before.”

“Eh, maybe once or twice,” Kitty said, waving her hand and took a sip of her tea.

They sat in silence for a moment. “Are you mad?”

Kitty inhaled deeply and looked at Y/n. “A little. More so that you didn’t tell me and lied to me. Multiple times.”

Y/n looked down at her tea in shame. “I’m sorry, Mom.”

“Do you and Steven even have a plan?”

Y/n nodded, debating on telling her about the engagement. Like a band-aid. “Yes. He’s going to go work with his dad in Milwaukee and I’m going to go back to school while looking for an apartment. And, uh,” she took a deep breath, her voice wavering. Get ready to see some chairs fly. “We’re….going to get…married.”

Kitty sat there in stunned silence, blinking at Y/n. The growing silence between them made Y/n more nervous as she was receiving daggers from her mother’s blazed eyes.

“Yep,” Y/n said shortly after a minute of no talking. “A grandchild and a son-in-law. Big day for you.”

“You’re WHAT!” Kitty shouted, shooting up from her seat.

Y/n jumped up and held her hands out at her menopausal mother. “I’m sorry! We just thought that it would be better for you and Daddy because I’m sure you guys don’t want a screaming baby around and we—”

“You’re going to leave me?!”

Y/n knitted her eyebrows together and brought her hands down. “What?”

“My baby is having a baby and getting married and you’re going to leave me?!”

“Uh, okay, I’m sorry, but I’m really confused,” Y/n said calmly and stood up straight. “I thought you’d want me and Steven to move out.”

“Well, not right now!” she yelled. “I’ve always wanted to plan my children’s wedding. When I saw what path Laurie was going down, I thought to hell with that I’m never going to plan her wedding, and Eric…well you know what happened! But now you’re getting married and I need to plan yours! Sure, I still want to put my foot up your ass, but I need to do this!”

Y/n stood there in confusion and shock. Well, this went better than expected. “Really, Mom? You’re sure?”

“Yes, you dumbass!” Kitty shouted and wrapped her arms around Y/n’s shoulders.

“Wow, uhm, you’re taking this a lot better than I thought you would,” Y/n said, wrapping hesitant arounds around her petite mother.

“Don’t be so sure,” she replied. “I’m still angry that you lied to me and didn’t tell me and for Steven going behind our backs instead of just coming to us, but we will talk later. For now, we need to focus on telling your father so that we can start planning and getting ready for everything.”

“When should we tell him?”

“Well, tomorrow night I’ll be throwing a small dinner party for couples. So, you, Steven, and Donna and Eric will be there. And Bob is coming with a date.”

“You really think telling Dad while we’re having a party, which he hates, is a good idea? He’s not afraid to have witnesses while he murders me, you know that right?”

“Oh, honey, don’t be so dramatic. That’s where we’re going to get him liquored up,” Kitty laughed and sat back down, leaving Y/n utterly confused still.

--Time Skip—

“So, she knew this whole time?” Steven asked later that night, as they laid in his bed, their naked bodies covered by the blanket.

“Yep. Apparently, we weren’t being as secretive as we should’ve been,” Y/n commented.

“And she took the news well?” He felt genuinely confused. “So, I’m not getting…kicked out?”

“No, but she definitely wants to put her foot up our asses.”

He raised his eyebrows. “She said that?”

“Word for word.”

Steven threw his head back laughing. “Man, I wish I would’ve heard that.”

“Yeah, but here’s the kicker. I think she was madder that I told her that we would be moving out.”

He stopped laughing and looked at her confused. “How?”

She shrugged. “Beats me. She said something about how she’s never going to be able to plan Laurie’s wedding because she’s, well, Laurie, so she really wants to plan ours.”

Hyde chuckled. “That’s funny.”

Y/n lifted the corner of her mouth. “Which part?”

“Well both. She just called Laurie a whore and that she thinks we will have a real wedding.”

Y/n sat up and looked at him. “What do you mean by that?”

“Well, obviously Laurie gets around quite a bit—”

“No, no, not that,” she said. “About the wedding.”

“Oh, well,” Hyde said and sat up too. “You didn’t think we were going to have a real wedding, did you?”

“Uh, yeah I did,” she replied. “That’s why I said wedding. It’s not like I’m saying let’s have a big one or anything, but something. What were you thinking?”

“Well, just, uh,” he said nervously. “Just city hall and then maybe have a dinner.”

“That’s it?” she asked. “That’s how you want to spend our big day?”

“Well, to be fair we have an even bigger one coming,” he responded, motioning towards her stomach.

“Okay, yes, we’re having a baby but also us getting married is also pretty big.”

“ Y/n, what is the big deal? We’re going to be spending a lot of time and money for what? A few hours of partying?”

“A few hours of partying? Are you kidding me?”

“What? It’s true.”

“A wedding is the unification of us becoming one and celebrating our love! To promise one another that we will always be there and love each other. Doesn’t that mean something to you?” She got out of the bed and started putting her clothes back on.

“Why do we need to promise each other in front of people when it’s our marriage? I’m promising you, not them.”

“It’s still a celebration, Steven.”

“Yeah, maybe back in the olden times when marriage was used as transactions and not for anything more. I mean, come on, be happy that I’m even marrying you!” He started to put his pants back on when he noticed the shift in the room.

“What?” Y/n asked sharply.

Hyde’s eyes grew a fraction bigger. “No, no! That’s not what I meant!”

“Then what did you mean?”

“I just meant that before I probably wouldn’t have even considered marriage even if I did get you pregnant.” He mentally cringed, knowing he just made the situation worse.

“Wow,” was all she said before she walked out the room.

“No, wait Y/n!” he stumbled as he fumbled to put his pants back on. “I didn’t mean it that way!”

“Just leave me alone, Steven!” she shrieked as she stomped up the stairs.

He groaned. “Great.”

--Time Skip—

“Y/n, honey can you go to the store for me and pick some things up for the party tonight?” Kitty asked while she gave Y/n her breakfast plate.

“We’re having a party?” Eric asked. Everyone, excluding Red was there. Fez and Jackie sat at the counter, Kelso and Donna at the table.

“Yes, we are. All couples are invited.”

“Wait, why wasn’t I invited? Kelso asked.

“Well, honey, you need a date,” Kitty said. “Do you have a date?”

“Yeah, Brooke.

“That would be great! Then I can ask her questions about when she was pregnant,” Y/n said.

“Ohhh, honey, let’s not say that out loud,” Kitty replied, patting Y/n’s shoulder. “Your father could walk in any minute.”

“Guess I can come now,” Kelso beamed.

“Yeah, I guess you can,” Kitty said and sat down next to Y/n.

“Can I come too Miss Kitty?” Fez asked. “If I bring a date that is.”

“Of course, dear,” Kitty beamed and clapped excitedly. “I’m so excited!”

“Uh,” Hyde said and raised his hand. “Do I have to come?”

“Yes,” Kitty and Y/n said in unison sternly.

“And wear a tie,” Y/n said.

“I don’t want to,” he responded stubbornly.

“Well, you’re gonna,” she snapped.

He looked at Kitty and Y/n and slumped his shoulders. “Fine. But, Mrs. Forman, can I speak to you privately in the living room, please?”

“For what?”

“I just need to speak to you.”

She looked to Y/n who shrugged her shoulders. Kitty and Steven stood up and made their way into the living room.

“What do you want to talk about, Steven?” Kitty asked him and clasped her hands together in front of her.

“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry,” he began and scratched his neck. “I’m not very good at apologizing and stuff, but I’ve always looked at you as a mom, especially because you took me in and took care of me as if I was your own and I owe you an apology. I understand if you’re angry with me and you have every right to be. I disrespected you and Red by going behind your back with Y/n and lying to you and I deeply regret that, but I need you to know that I don’t regret Y/n. I truly do care about her and…I do love her. I know this was probably a shock for you, but I promise to do whatever I can to take care of her. I’m not sure if Y/n told you, but I took a job with my dad at his company.

“I just want you to know that even though you may not think I’m the right person for your daughter, I promise you I am. I know I’m not perfect, but I think I’m good enough for her and she’s definitely more than enough for me.”

Kitty looked at her foster son with blurry eyes. “Oh, Steven,” she whimpered and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He gratefully accepted her embrace. “You’re such a good boy. Thank you. I love you so much.” She pulled away and looked at him. “Yes, I am a little angry about the situation and trust me, we will be having a talk later, but please don’t worry about me. It’s Red we need to worry about.”

“I’ll have to run before he can put his foot in my ass,” he replied.

“Oh, I won’t let that happen,” she said and patted his arm.

“Thank you, Mrs. Forman.”

She smiled at him before they went back into the kitchen.

--Time Skip—

“For the last time, I told you I don’t want a freakin’ wedding!” Steven raised his voice at Y/n.

“Well, I do, dammit!” Y/n shouted back.

“What’s the point? We can still celebrate with everyone after we sign the piece of paper!”

“I’m not asking for anything big here, Steven!” she growled. “I’m asking for a simple wedding. Why is that so much to ask?”

“Because it cost a lot!”

“Alright let the moth out of your wallet you cheap ass,” Y/n snapped. “We’re going to be spending more on this baby and any other future children we may have than a wedding. The wedding doesn’t even have to be big! It could just be all of us and my grandparents. Why are you being so difficult about this?”

“Because I don’t want a wedding!”

“Uhm,” Eric called out awkwardly from the couch. “Some of us are trying to watch TV here. Care to take it outside?”

“No!” the couple said in unison.

“Y/n listen to me,” Jackie said and stood up. “Getting Steven to even marry anybody is a miracle. Take it from me.”

“Yeah, he told me that last night,” Y/n spit.

“You said that to her? BURN!” Kelso shouted, but then instantly cowered when Y/n and Hyde threw daggers at him.

Y/n rolled her eyes and turned back to Steven. “I want us to have pictures to remember this day. So, we’ll need a photographer.”

“If you need a photographer to remember something like this, then we have bigger problems,” Hyde deadpanned.

Y/n groaned in frustration. “God, you’re impossible! Come on, just something from you.”

Hyde shook his head. “No. And that’s final.”

“Fine,” she huffed. “But you get to tell my mom why she won’t plan our wedding.” She flipped her hair and sat down on the couch, crossing her arms. “And by the way, you’re going to be the one to deal with her wrath. Not me.”

Steven titled his back and looked up at the ceiling, groaning. “Fine! We’ll have a wedding, but it won’t be big. Just us, no extra relatives, we’ll have it in the backyard, beer, and spaghetti, and a small cake. No dressing up, nothing.”

“Or,” Y/n said coyly and sauntered back up to him. “It’s just us and my grandparents, somewhere outdoors with Pastor Dave, a decent sized cake, some dressing up, and 1 main plate of food with 2 sides. Beer and champagne.”

He looked down at her, trying so hard to be mad, but her puppy dog eyes made him melt. “Fine.”

She smiled widely for him. “Okay!” She gave him a quick peck and sat back down on the couch.

“Aweeee,” the gang cooed.

“Shut it!” Hyde barked.

“Who’s going to be your maid of honor?” Jackie pushed. “I’m not saying it should be me, but it should be me.”

“Yeah, and who is going to be your best man?” Kelso asked and pointed at himself. “Me,” he whispered.

“Hang on, guys,” Donna said. “Let’s not put too much pressure on them. It’s their wedding. Let them decide who.”

Y/n gave her an appreciative smile. “Thank you, Donna.”

“Oh, she’s just sucking up to you so you’d pick her!” Jackie cried out. “ Y/n, if you pick me, I’m rich, so I can give you the bachelorette party of your dreams. I can help with the wedding too.”

Y/n puckered her lips and looked up, thinking. “That does sound nice.”

“What, no! That’s crap,” Donna exclaimed. “I’ve been there for her this whole time, I think I deserve to be maid of honor.”

“Oh, what have you brought to the table, Big Foot?” Jackie spit.

“Listen, here Midget, I was the first person who knew about her and Hyde, the first to know about the pregnancy, AND kept it a secret until she was ready to tell the others. She trusts me more. Being rich doesn’t make you a better friend than me.”

Jackie gasped theatrically. “You take that back!”

Donna smirked at her. “No.”

“Bitch!”

“Skank!”

“GIRL FIGHT!” Kelso hollered. “Eric, quick, get a pool of mud and we can watch them fight for honor.”

“Alright, alright, alright, stop. Both of you,” Y/n cut in, trying to prevent them from ripping at each other. “I still have Laurie to think about.”

Donna and Jackie scoffed and rolled their eyes at her.

“You really want the queen of whores to be your maid of honor?” Hyde asked her.

Y/n thought about it for a minute. “No, not really. But she’s still an option.”

“Okay, well, while you ladies figure out your issue, we have a bigger one at hand,” Fez said and down on the coffee, facing Hyde who was now sitting in his chair. “Who’s going to be the best man? Me.”

“Nuh uh, I wanna be!” Kelso argued.

“Hey, if anybody deserves to be best man, it should be me,” Eric piped up. “I think it’s already a given why I deserve this role.”

“Why you deserve it?” Hyde repeated. “This isn’t a play, man.”

“Come on, man. I made you the godfather of my daughter,” Kelso said, giving him the puppy eyes.

“Or, how about the one who’s related to the bride? And who gave him a home when he became an orphan?” Eric said.

“Don’t pull that crap on me, Forman,” Hyde said, making a face at him. “You also forget how you reacted and tried to kick me out.”

“I was just preparing you for what’s going to happen with Red,” Eric defended, albeit rather weakly.

“Well, we got to figure something out,” Jackie said and stood, adjusting her shirt. “Why don’t we pull straws?”

“Or how bout we race?” Fez said. “I can outrun all of you sons of bitches.” He beamed with pride.

“No, we’re not going to do any of that,” Y/n said. “Let me and Steven decide, okay?”

“Good ‘cause I’m not running,” Jackie said. “Jackie Burkhart doesn’t sweat.”

“Or how ‘bout we go with the two most good looking people in this room?” Kelso suggested. “So, me and Jackie.”

Jackie nodded. “I second that!”

“NO,” Hyde and Y/n said in unison.

Kelso and Jackie huffed and sat down on the couch and chair, pouting.

“Please, guys, let us get through tonight and then we’ll decide,” Y/n begged. “Right now we just want to get through the night alive. My dad is going to tear us to shreds.”

“Oh, why wouldn’t he?” Eric asked sarcastically. “Not only are you secretly dating the orphan boy living in his house, you’re having his baby and getting married.”

“Actually, it wasn’t so secretive,” Y/n mentioned. “Mom’s known for weeks.”

“What? How?!” Eric asked.

“I don’t know, but she’s not as naïve as I thought.”

“Oh, crap,” Eric said wide eyed. “That means she probably found my magazines!”

“What magazines?” Donna asked.

“Uh,” Eric stuttered while Y/n smirked at her dumbass twin. “S-some good ol’ fashioned…classy magazines.”

“Nice,” Y/n said, thoroughly amused.

“Uh huh, sure,” Donna said, but let it go.

“So, are you guys nervous about telling Mr. Red?” Fez asked.

“Oh, I’m just short of completely and utterly terrified,” Y/n responded.

“Yeah, what she said,” Hyde responded and gestured for Y/n to sit in his lap. “But, this is something we have to do. We messed up and now we have to make up for it.”

“Or make a run for it,” Fez said, giggling. “See what I did there?”

Y/n chuckled lightly, loving his sweet and innocent sense of humor. “You’re not wrong. My dad is a very scary man.”

“But you’re his little girl. I don’t think he’s going murder you,” Eric said. “It’s clear that you’re the favorite.”

“Even if that were true, you know who is the one who’s going to get murdered,” Jackie said and pointed at Steven. “You. You better get your running shoes on now.”

“Ha ha very funny. Listen, I think once he calms down and realizes that being blinded by rage isn’t going to change anything, he’ll come around,” Steven said.

Everyone looked at him as if he had grown a third head.

“Are you just now meeting my dad?” Eric asked.

“All I’m saying is that there isn’t much he can do at this point,” Hyde defended. “Mrs. Forman will be there.”

“Yeah, to tell you to run,” Eric said.

“He’s right, though,” Donna said. “Besides getting scary and pink, nothing’s going to change.”

“What do you expect him to do though?” Eric asked. “Sit there and tell you congratulations?”

Y/n shrugged. “Maybe.”

“Yeah,” her twin scoffed. “After he cheers and tosses his poms poms into the air.”

The group fell silent as the image of Red fell into their heads.

“You’re pregnant?” Red asked as the teens started trembling in their seats.

“Now, Daddy, please let me explain—” Y/n began before Red jumped up from his seat.

“That’s great!” he boasted with a broad smile and somehow brought out two poms poms from behind him. “Let’s cheer!”

He started hopping up and down, shouting, “P-R-E-G-N-A-N-T!”

“What’s happening?” Hyde asked, staring at Eric who continued to play the scene out for them.

“Who’s going to be a grandpa?” Red cheered. “Me! G-R-A-N-D-P-A! WhooOOooOO!”

He started jumping up and down like a teenage girl.

“That was unpleasant,” Y/n commented once Eric was finished.

“You got the cheer wrong,” Jackie commented.

“What?” Eric asked, directing his attention to her.

“Yeah, you’re supposed to go—”

“I don’t care,” he cut her off lazily.

The gang chuckled before Y/n looked down at her watch. “The party is in an hour. Honey, you need to get ready.”

“It only takes me two minutes to get ready,” Steven argued.

“You still need to figure out what you’re going to wear.”

“I’m wearing this,” he said and gestured towards his current outfit.

Y/n hummed unamused. “No, you’re not.”

“Yes, I am.”

“No, you’re really not.”

“ Y/n, I’m wearing this and that’s final.”

“Or, you can wear a tie and still have sex tonight.”

Eric rolled his eyes as he forced that mental image out of his head.

Hyde grunted. “Fine.”

He got up and followed Y/n into his room to pick out the outfit he would be wearing.

“Well, I better go pick up Brooke before she gets mad at me again,” Kelso said begrudgingly. “Man, you forget a woman one time at the store and suddenly you’re ‘irresponsible’ and ‘immature.’ You make one small mistake and she never lets you live it down!” Michael rolled his eyes as he walked out the door.

“And I better go pick up Nina,” Fez said. “She’s super foxy and the best part, I get to see her everyday! It really pays off to be dating your boss.”

“You’re dating your boss?” Eric asked.

“Yeah you don’t want to date anyone within the workplace,” Donna said. “This spells disaster.”

“Yeah, but she’s so spicy,” Fez said.

“See and I don’t care. So, I’m just going to go home,” Jackie said and stood by Fez.

“You’re just mad because you’re not going to this party,” Donna stated.

“Yeah! I just had to be the one without a boyfriend and to add salt to the wound, I won’t be there when Mr. Forman finds out.”

“Finds out about what?” Red asked as he came down the stairs.

Fez’s eyes widened. “Bye,” he squeaked and fumbled for the door and whipped it open, running for the hills, leaving Jackie behind.

“Is that kid on dope? Because if he is, I don’t want him in my house” Red asked before turning towards the washer and dryer. “I’m looking for my blue shirt. Your mother is insistent I wear it tonight. I’d rather be back in Korea than go to this damn thing.”

“Yeah, that’s a real kicker, there, DAD,” Eric shouted dramatically, hoping to have Y/n hear and for the love of God to NOT come out of Hyde’s room.

Red gave Eric a look. “Son, are you on dope too?”

Eric laughed uncomfortably. “No, no, not at all, DAD.”

“Yeah, MR. FORMAN. Nothing going on here,” Donna said and gave him a fake smile.

Red shook his head in confusion and pulled his shirt out of the dryer. “Damn teenagers,” he mumbled and sulked back upstairs.

Once he was out of earshot, Eric and Donna huffed and leaned into the couch while Jackie continued to stay by the door. “You know, maybe it’s good that I won’t be here. I don’t want to be here to help clean up the blood. See ya!”

“Yeah,” Eric and Donna said lazily as Jackie walked out the door.

“That was a close one,” Donna said. “After tonight, this will all be over.”

Eric rubbed his face. “God, I hope so.”

“Was that Dad?” Y/n asked, coming out of Steven’s room with him trailing behind her.

“Yeah, it was. He’s gone now,” Eric replied.

“Thanks, you guys. You have no idea how much we appreciate that,” Y/n said. “I promise tonight will be the last. Once Red knows then it will hopefully be over.”

“Or the start of a blood bath,” Donna snickered.

“Real funny,” Y/n said and headed towards the stairs. “I’m going to go change. I’ll see you guys in a few minutes.”

“I’ll go with you. Can I borrow a shirt?” Donna said, joining Y/n on the stairs.

“Yeah, sure. Which one are you thinking?”

“Well, I was thinking…”

Their conversation drifted off as the guys sat on the couch. Eric noticed Hyde wearing a nice shirt and a tie with a pair of black jeans.

“Wow, Hyde, I didn’t know you even owned a pair of black jeans,” Eric said and batted his eyes. “You look so handsome!” Before he could keep going, a pillow was thrown in his face to muffle his taunting.

—Time Skip—

“Alright, everybody!” Kitty said excitedly as she came through the door into the living room. She set down a plate of hors d'oeuvres on the table. “Dinner will be ready in about thirty minutes.”

She looked around the room to see Y/n and Steven, Eric and Donna, Kelso and Brooke, Bob and his date, Joanne, but no Laurie or Fez. “Where’s Fez?”

“He went to go pick up his date,” Y/n responded. “He’ll be here soon.”

“Oh, okay. Sounds good. Well, you look very pretty tonight, Y/n ,” Kitty said, gesturing towards her dress.

Y/n wore a maroon colored, high low dress that was decorated with orange, white, and blue floral print with long and flowing sleeves. She wore knee high brown boots to match with the dress. Her long hair was flat ironed down her waist as she sported hoop earrings.

“Oh, thank you, Mom,” she said and smoothed out her dress. “You look pretty too.” Kitty wore a nice red dress with short sleeves and a sweet heart neckline. “Donna, Joann, and Brooke look very pretty too.”

Donna and Joann smiled at Y/n who sported normal flowered bell bottoms and a plain and elegant baby pink top. While Brooke, wore simple, yet stylish, emerald green maxi dress with a white dress cardigan and strappy black heels.

“I told you, you looked pretty,” Bob said to Joanne who smiled at him.

“You think I look pretty?” Brooke beamed, feeling relieved. “Thank you so much. Ever since I had Betsy, it’s been hard to go out, let alone dress up.”

Kelso snorted. “I know.”

Brooke glared at him before turning her attention away from him with a hurt expression.

“Steven, would you mind?” Y/n asked.

“It’ll be my pleasure,” he responded before connecting his fist to Kelso’s shoulder.

“Ow!” Kelso shouted, holding his shoulder. “The hell, man?”

“You don’t say that to the woman who just had your baby, you moron!” Y/n scorned. “Brooke looks lovely and you should definitely acknowledge that, you dillhole.”

“I did!”

“I believe your exact words were, ‘Wow, you look hot. Wanna do it?’” Brooke said, imitating Kelso.

“But you do!” he defended.

“Alright, kids,” Kitty said as she handed Red an hors d'oeuvre.

“Hey, if this is a couple’s dinner, then why is Y/n and Steven here?” Bob asked.

Y/n’s heart caught in her throat and Hyde shifted uncomfortably.

“Well, we just wanted to come,” Y/n lied.

“Did ya now?” Red asked suspiciously. “If that’s the case, then why is Steven here?”

“Uh, you know,” Hyde responded nervously and cleared his throat. “Free food.”

“Uh huh,” Red responded unconvinced.

“I asked them to come,” Kitty said, stepping in. “I—uh—”

Laurie walked into the room, unsuspecting of her mother flying over to her.

“I also invited Laurie!” she said, gripping her oldest daughter’s arm and dragging her to the couch.

“What? No, you didn’t—”

“Sshh, shut up, I did and you get five bucks out of this,” Kitty murmured in her ear as Laurie smiled, quickly accepting and sat down on the floor next to the table.

“Hellooooo! Me and Nina are here!” Fez called in, stumbling in through the door. “Please, meet my lovely and hot date, Nina.”

“Fez,” the short haired girl blushed and turned to the group. “Hi!”

“Fez, are you drunk?” Hyde asked.

“I had to pregame before I came!” he announced.

“Fez, you realize you’re not supposed to get drunk when you pregame,” Y/n said. “Only buzzed.”

“And how would you know that?” Red asked.

“Public school. Everybody knows that,” Y/n lied. Sort of.

“Okay, well, let’s just get this party started so I can go to bed,” Red said begrudgingly.

—Time Skip—

Later on that evening, when everyone had finished eating and was now enjoying dessert, Fez was enjoying his third glass of kahlua. Kitty had allowed the kids to have small glass of it, but Fez was finishing off Hyde’s and going for Y/n’s.

“Y/n, do you not like your drink?” Red asked.

“Kind of. It’s a little too sweet,” she lied and felt her heart drop. She hated lying to her dad. He trusted her so much. Now, he was going to lose any ounce of pride he had in her. She turned to Kitty, wanting now more than ever to get this over with. “Hey Mom, I think it’s time.”

“No. Not right now,” Kitty shook her head vigorously who was cleaning up the dessert plates. “He hasn’t had enough yet.”

“Time for what?” Red asked.

The mother and daughter ignored him.

“I have to tell him.” Y/n stood from the couch and faced Kitty. “I can’t hold it in anymore.”

“ Y/n, don’t,” Kitty warned, pleading her.

“Tell. Me. What?” Red asked, growing impatient.

“Wouldn’t it be better to just say it and get it over with?”

“Y/n, stop,” Steven piped up, eyeing Red who was now standing behind Y/n.

“For the love of God, tell me what?!”

“To tell you that Y/n is pregnant with Hyde’s baby!” Fez drunkenly shouted, causing the air in the room to still. “Oh, and they’re also getting married!”

Everyone in the room held their breath as they stared at Red.

“Fez, why?” Y/n trembled.

“Well, you weren’t going to say it, so I did.”

“Remind me to kick your ass later,” she seethed and turned around to face her father.

“Y/n, the foreign kid better be lying,” Red threatened, his voice wavering.

Her gaze fell to the floor, not able to keep eye contact with him. Her throat suddenly felt dry and she couldn’t find the words to speak. She swallowed thickly and shook her head.

“I swear to God, if this is some kind sick joke…” Red trailed off and looked around at everyone, seeing their horrified and sullen faces. “Are you really pregnant? With Steven’s baby?!”

Y/n cringed and dared herself to look up at him. “I’m sorry, Daddy, but yes.”

“Wow, I picked a great night to stay home,” Laurie beamed.

Red’s eyes darted to Steven who was visibly sweating. “YOU!”

Kitty was shaking as she stared at the scene in front of her in fright. “Run, honey, run!”

Hyde didn’t hesitate to jump off the couch and sprinted to the front door. Red was on his tail immediately.

“You son of a bitch!” Red roared as he ran after Hyde.

Luckily Hyde was faster as he ripped the door open and made his way down the street with Red running after him like a mad man.

Eden’s Gate: The Mother Chapter 6 - The Mother of Eden’s Gate

Warnings: light swearing

Word count: 1.6k

Where it all began.

Summary: Mandy has claimed the role as The Mother of Eden’s Gate. Archangel Raphael forbids her from speaking about her position to the locals.

Note: This takes place in 2012. Also this chapter is gonna be a short one.

A few days after her atonement, and giving John the loving care that he clearly needed.

Mandy is now the Mother of Eden’s Gate.

All she has to do now is claim the name in some ceremony at Joseph’s church in a few hours.

Sitting her truck outside of Eden’s Gate Outreach Center in the Henbane River, with her eyes closed.

The sound of wings fluttering next to her in the passenger seat makes her open her eyes, and sees Raphael, looking straight forward.

"You know what to do” he says, looking forward.

“Yep” she replies, closing her eyes again.

“When do you claim the name?” he asks, still not looking at her.

“In a few hours” she answers, opening her eyes again.

He looks over at her, “Remember what I’ve been telling you. You can’t change anything that they do. Your purpose is to be a guide to them, and that’s it. Nothing more.”

“Yeah, yeah. I know the plan” she says, crossing her arms.

“Good. I will see you again once you’ve claimed the name” he tells her before disappearing.

She sighs loudly, and starts up her truck. Driving down the fenced road to the church.

Once she gets onto the compound, many of Joseph’s followers are setting up some decorations at the church as well as the whole property.

She goes inside her shared home with Joseph, and once again doesn’t see him inside.

Walking into the bedroom, and sees another white dress on the bed, similar to the one she wore for her cleansing, along with a flower crown, and a bouquet of Bliss flowers. A letter from Joseph wrote to Mandy, she grabs it, unfolds it and reads it.

“To my beloved Amanda.

Today on March 12, we will declare our love, our devotion to each other.

You will claim your role as The Mother, as my other half, as my wife.”

Mandy nearly chokes on her own breath reading that last part. She continues reading his letter to her.

“We will walk to the gates of Eden together. We will grow old together, die together. Our families being together. We will be together until the end. This will be our marriage officiated by God, witnessed by our family, and our Children, our followers, our flock.

I will show my love for you. How important you are to me. How important you are to our Children”.

Mandy folds the letter, placing it on the nightstand by the bed.

Feeling a mixture of emotions. Not sure if she’s feeling sick, or if she’s hungry.

What the fuck did Raphael get her into?!. What the fuck did Chuck get her into?!?. Why did she agree to do this shit?!?.

She could’ve been searching for that demon fucker that killed Joel. This life never makes any sense sometimes.

We’re gonna hunt some demons. Okay awesome. We’re gonna go gank a nest of vampires. Awesome!. You have to give yourself up to a religious Cult leader, and be his wife because God wants you to do it for the sake of humanity, and everyone will think you’re crazy!!. What the actual fuck?!?.

A few hours have passed, and it's time for the ceremony.

Mandy slipped into her dress for the ceremony, putting the flower crown on her head.

Faith stopped by, and helped her get dressed. Fixing her hair, making her look beautiful for Joseph, and the part as The Mother.

“You look so beautiful” Faith says, with a huge, sweet smile on her face.

“Thank you” Mandy replies, with a smile of her own.

15 minutes later Mandy along with Faith and another female Cultist step out of the house, and walk towards the church. A bouquet of bliss flowers in hand.

Decorations, flower petals, and candles leading a path to the white church doors.

The early evening sky, a reddish orange with purplish gray clouds.

Soft gospel music playing over some speakers.

She walks the path with Faith on her right, and the female cultist on her left.

A couple of male peggies open the two white doors leading inside.

It’s dark inside, the only source of light being the candles that are lighting up the path.

Joseph standing center of the small stage. His hands crossed over one another as he watches Mandy walk down the aisle.

Feeling like her stomach is getting tied into a knot. Her hands start to get clammy, and shaky.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself down.

“Who's officiating this?!?!” she asks herself in her head.

Joseph takes a step forward, and reaches out to grab her hand, she reaches out and he brings her closer to him.

Taking her hands in his.

So this would be Mandy’s 2nd marriage?. If this counts as a wedding.

He looks her in the eyes, even with the sunglasses it’s an intense stare, like he was looking into her soul. Into her mind, and listening to her thoughts. Every single word.

Time feels like it has stopped, they both stare into each other's eyes.

John then speaks up, since he had Mandy reach atonement, and confess. Joseph chose his younger brother to officiate this “marriage”, and Joseph to give her The Mother name.

“Today, we will witness the amalgamation of Amanda Campbell, and Joseph Seed. These two will be unification, and will lead us to the New World. They will stand together as husband and wife. The Father and The Mother. They will spend life together, die together or until death do they part”.

Joseph speaks his “vow” to Mandy, “Amanda my love, God told me about your forthcoming and he showed me your face. I knew we were meant to be together. He chose you to be my other half, to guide me, to guide our family to the New World. To be my wife, all I ever wanted was a family, and he brought you here. This is all I want between us, I want to show you how much I love you”.

He finishes his vow, and Mandy, who didn’t write, or even come up with one starts to think about all the shit she went through with Raphael, and all the stuff he told her to do.

“Go along with it” she hears the Archangel’s voice tell her.

He appears behind Joseph, and no one else can see him, only her.

Stammering a bit, but she manages to make her words clear, and presentable.

“Joseph, a part of me told me to come here to Hope County. I didn’t know why. My gut told me that I had to come here. I’m glad that I did, I needed to know my purpose. I needed to find my reason, and then I met you. I knew when I first met you. You were, and still are my reason, my purpose to be here.”.

They finish their vows, and wrap up the whole “wedding” ceremony.

Joseph, and Mandy are now “married”.

This was something she didn’t plan on.

Later that day, when Mandy was able to get some alone time away from her new family.

“This is Barbara Teller leave a message and I’ll get back to you” -beep-

“Hey Barb it’s me Mandy. Call me back as soon as you can. It’s very important. Hope to hear from you. Bye”.

She hangs up her phone, standing by the water near the Drubman Marina.

Waiting for Raphael to show himself to her, like he has done several million times in the past.

Getting tired of waiting for the Archangel, she walks back to her truck, and runs into a new, friendly face.

As she walks back to her truck, she sees a blonde woman, probably older than her cleaning a helicopter.

“Nice chopper” she compliments the flying vehicle.

She turns around to look at her, “Thanks honey” she says with a Southern like accent.

“This is my beautiful girl Tulip. My prized possession chopper”.

Mandy looks at the chopper, “She’s a very nice one”.

“Yep, she sure is” Addie says, she looks over at Mandy and says, “You’re the one that Joseph Seed married aren’t ya?”.

She awkwardly clears her throat, stammering a bit “Uhh yeah. Yeah, umm how- how do you know about that?”.

Addie chuckles, “Word gets around sweetheart. Peggies talking about it all the time. It's something they always think and talk about. The Mother this, The Mother that.”

She lets out a soft sigh, and introduces herself.

“I’m Adelaide Drubman, by the way”.

“I’m Mandy short for Amanda. Campbell is the last name”.

They continue their small conversation when a Hope County jail truck pulls up the road near the Marina.

A youngish looking man in a Sheriff’s uniform steps out of the vehicle, and approaches the two women.

“Well, well, well. Hello Sheriff Hayward” Addie says in a seducing tone.

“Evening ladies” he greets them, he points to Mandy, “You must be Amanda Campbell”.

She nods her head, narrowing her eyes at him “Yeah that’s me”.

“You’re gonna have to come down to the jail with me” he tells her.

She looks over at Adelaide with slight confusion, then back to the Sheriff.

“Umm why do you need me to go down to the station with you?!”.

He clears his throat, “We just need to ask you some questions”.

“Umm, okay. Yeah sure” she says, still confused.

He motions her towards the truck with his arm out.

She walks towards it, and gets inside. Sitting in the front passenger seat.

“I’ll see ya around sweetheart” Addie calls out to Mandy, and they drive off to the jail.

His steps came to a stop, yet Sesshomaru did not turn to look at Rin right away. He felt conflicted. A part of him thought he should just keep walking and ignore her plea. It warned him that doing otherwise would lead to unpleasant consequences, maybe to a conversation he did not want to have.

Against his better judgment, he half-turned to rest his gaze on Rin. Or who he struggled to recognize as Rin, anyway. It was still a bit frightening how quickly humans aged and changed. There was almost nothing left of the child he had gotten used to trusting by his side for so long, many years ago.

For daiyoukai like himself, time simply flew at a different pace. What humans called a week was but a second to him. A year felt little more than mere days. That was why some youkai slept for thousands of years. How they were capable of holding grudges for centuries, or mourn for even longer.

If for anybody else Rin’s growth had been natural and regular, for the man who had granted her new life and brought her to this village it was like she had been swapped with an unfamiliar girl overnight. It was a feeling which had started almost as soon as Rin entered puberty, and it had made him uncomfortable. His visits had been rarer, and shorter. Would he even consider himself used to her before she died of old age?

He didn’t like it. Her growth was like a clear embodiment of her mortality. It reminded him, with each time he gazed upon her, that soon she would be too old and too far gone for even Tenseiga to bring back. Soon he’d have nothing to even come back to, and perhaps in an unconscious mechanism of self-preservation, Sesshomaru was seeking to detach himself emotionally. Trying to let her go, before any hurt could be felt.

And what he dreaded the most was that she might have caught on to that.

His eye contact with hers was emotionless, his voice spoke matter-of-factly. “You know I cannot stay.”

He didn’t need to point behind her. He was sure she was aware of the wary looks the villagers still directed at him whenever he came by. Even as years passed, he was feared and respected as a dangerous threat to their lives. It didn’t bother him. This was how things were meant to be. @roleplay-abiogenesis2

•*¨*•♫♪♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ The young lady was already foreseeing that response from him, nevertheless, his utterance perforated her gentle quintessence like a poniard, acrimonious & pernicious. Rin knew the western land’s Lord well & his unbreakable personality, a sealed countenance that seldom bestowed any kind of emotion. The prince was a stoic being & difficult to interpret, even for the brunette who was looking at her precious Lord with a crestfallen face. Her hopes had entirely petered out.

❝H-Hai.❞ Uttered in a whisper, looking down. His visits were increasingly meagre, brisk. Despite his essentially unaltered posture, Rin was noticing more & more inconstancies in his demeanour. His departure, even if uninterrupted, was affecting her. Why would he neglect her? She couldn’t attain a plausible answer. With an exhale, she faced him again with a smile, attempting to camouflage her disquietude & the vulnerabilities, all the morose sentiments that were travelling inside her. Coffee-coloured cores locked themselves in Sesshoumaru’s ambers as if they ache to read, decipher what was going in his thoughts. Would he always be an enclosed and indecipherable Codex? Who would have the privilege of surveying the pages of his thoughts & decode the conundrum that was his kernel?

❝Demo, I feel like you’re trying to ignore me.❞ Stated, using her typical honeyed timbre. Neglecting the glances of some inhabitants, she sat cautiously on the river’s bank. Even after so long, the demon’s ubiquity still instilled suspicion, & of course respect. The demoiselle was one of the few people capable of being in his presence without feeling intimidated. She & Sesshoumaru had a story together, ventures that she frequently told the juveniles, trying to enforce the etiquette that humans & demons could coexist in friendship. These adventures had ended as soon as Sesshoumaru had decided to leave her in the village with Kaede. They granted her the opportunity to live with her own species, grow as normally as possible, mature & self-discover in a natural way. At first, her unification with the other children was complicated because they looked at her with repugnance, however, this feeling was promptly replaced by curiosity, excite in the adventures she had spent with her dear Lord.

Relations were enhanced over time, leading the tender young woman to make acquaintances with humans & half-demons. Throughout the years Rin recognised that she & Sesshoumaru were from completely parallel realms. Not only because he was a demon, but also due to his social prestige. He was an inheritor to one of the most prominent empires of the feudal era while she was merely a human belonging to the peasant class. Despite the colossal disparities between them, Rin wanted to be part of his world even if it was only partially. Regardless of the companions, the harmony, she felt something was missing in her life, something that nobody could replace…

❝You don’t visit me as frequently as you used to. I feel like something is going on.❞ Confessed, looking up to gaze at him. During adolescence, her friends began to evolve emotionally, developing more profound affections for each other, or individuals from other settlements. It was throughout this period that Rin was confronted with some emotional things that she didn’t know until then. Her closest companions started dating, courting, and some married. Many were those who sought & still attempt to conquer the young woman’s awareness with sweetness & gifts but without success. For some mysterious reason, her feelings were blocked & couldn’t get beyond friendship. For a long time, she lived in obscurity, doubting herself, until later something awakened in her.

❛When you are troubled, or anxious, or sad or any other time feel free to call me…❜

❛I will come to you immediately. Even if we are far apart if you call my name I will absolutely come flying to you.❜

The maiden had never forgotten such messages, so she wasn’t understanding what was occurring. Was he also experiencing some kind of metamorphosis? Had she done something to agitate him? Why after saying those words he wanted to leave? leave everything behind. She had been left in the village to grow up, studying her core, her feelings & then deciding whether she wanted to be with him or not. Even before she knew, she had already made a decision. She craved to be with Lord Sesshoumaru, that was her strongest eagerness. ❝Did I do something wrong Sesshoumaru-sama?❞ Rin missed him & Jaken. Nothing would be like before, she was no longer a child even though she still had some naiveté. ❝I’m sorry if I did something that upset you.❞ Apologized in advance.

Some additional information: In 1959 Miss Young-oon Kim and David SC Kim came to the US. Bo Hi Pak arrived in 1961. In 1965 Papasan Sang-Ik Choi came to the US after he was deported from Japan. He arrived in the US with Rev Moon for his first world tour. That spring, in Bo Hi Pak’s house, Rev Moon got Annie Choi pregnant. She was the daughter of one of the richest men in Korea. Rev Moon had sex with Annie for several months, and he only left the US when he was sure she was pregnant. Sam Park was born in January 1966 in Washington, DC, and was hidden in Pak’s family.

That information was kept controlled for decades.

11:00 “My step-mother told me that people were selling candles. Fourteen members of the newly formed permanent MFT arrived in Philadelphia to begin four months of candle selling. This team composed largely of the former Belvedere project team mobile team, including five from the Berkeley center. [Rev Moon’s Belvedere mansion was mainly purchased with money earned by members selling church manufactured candles.] This new team were to sell candles for eight hours a day for five days a week to achieve their goal of achieving $18,500 each month. My step-mother told me that, during this candle selling adventure, the leader was driving in the middle of the night and he pressed on the brakes. The candles were stacked up above two sleeping members in the back of the van. The boxes were extremely heavy and they fell on to the sleeping members below, breaking the backs of two of them. One member was paralysed. (It is believed the other left the organization.) So these are the kind of stories that are not told often, but they are important to tell. MFT was always dangerous and the members were always treated with disrespect and with no care for safety. As long as money was made, it did not matter who died. I think it is important to tell these stories because if we tell them, we can start seeing the pattern. Many MFT members died; many members were injured. The MFT efforts continued without the acknowledgement of the dangers involved. The use of members just continued.

I don’t think Jesus would do this. Would Jesus have members die to sell candles? Absolutely not. What would Rev Moon do? He would say it was spiritual providence that Satan claimed them for the progress of the providence of restoration. This is a gaslighting and a narcissistic technique to change people’s memories of what really happened. It is called euphoric recall. You want to remember the good things and not the bad things. But the bad things are actually fact, and they are things that need to be accurately remembered so what is happening now can be changed. …

These members on MFT were not paid, did not have health insurance and had no social security benefits. This is labor trafficking. This is the definition of labor trafficking. They were gaslit to believe this was missionary work… My step-mother was on MFT and was labor trafficked for seven years and has absolutely nothing to show for it.”

UPDATE The two members in the candle selling MFT accident suffered from broken backs – one was paralyzed. It is believed the other left the organization.

Illicit Desire; l.dh

Word Count: 2K

Summary: A secret friendship between the heirs of rival companies. But behind the label of friendship, feelings of affection lingered. Donghyuck who would give up everything to be with you, goes out of his way to show you how he feels. It’s a risky decision, but he’d do anything to make you his. Despite being an illicit desire.

Author’s Note: This was all based of my imaginations. Plot was reccomended to me by a friend. Credits to the KDrama The Inheritors, this is where I got a small bit of the Business School idea from. As mentioned, these were mere products of my imaginations, and does not define the idols mentioned.

Your father calls out to you as soon as you descended from the staircase. You smiled at him and raised your brows to encourage him to continue with what he wanted to say. "As you already know, your brother already took over your grandfather's business. Your sister has also started her own business in the field of fashion and cosmetics. I am expecting you to take over mine."

Here we go again. This is one of the things you despise in this household. The responsibilities and pressure that comes with this family business and the name of the family, it's reputation. Since your siblings and you were young, you were taught how to act, how to maintain your characters and at a young age, you were already taught about your businesses so that you may be prepared to take over it as soon as your parents or grandparents, say so.

"What are you hinting at?" You asked bluntly. He sighs and pats your back, "Do you have a boyfriend?" You frowned at his question and it hit you hard. He wants to arrange a marriage for you. Probably a unification with the son or heir to another company in order for them to expand the business.

You were always told that at some point, things like this would happen. But you never agreed or liked the idea of it. They say its crucial and beneficial. But you don't agree with it at all. Sure, it may have worked for your brother, he fell in love with his fiance, which was a win-win situation because he got love, and it benefit the business.

Yet again, it can't happen all the time. It might not be the case for you, thus, you never liked the idea of an arranged marriage. "No, I don't." Your father nodded apathetically. As if he had an idea in mind, one that surely, you would not be in favor with.

"Father, whatever you are thinking of, I would not agree to it. So, let me leave for school in peace." And with that, you exited the tensed house and got into the car, your chauffeur driving you to school.

Upon arrival, your good friend Hana greeted you. She is as beautiful as ever. As if torn from a page in the books of Greek mythology. Her perfectly tanned skin as if drizzled by both honey and caramel, glows even from afar. Her cherry lips, a beautiful hue of red. If Aphrodite had a modern look, Hana would be the perfect embodiment.

"Goodmorning." She smiles. You greeted her back and walked to your class. Going to a business management school, there are three tiers. The highest tier are those wherein their families are founders or the CEO of a company. Students like you. Second tier are those like Hana, who share percentages of shares in the stockholders. And the last tier, those who are from the scholarship program, given by higher positions of a business.

Most people make a big deal out of the tier rankings, especially those of the lowest tier. Majority of them would pick on the students saying they don't belong to the school, but nevertheless, you didn't really think of it that way. Those from lower tiers could still graduate with a good degree and even start their own business. No one should just a book by its cover.

As both of you were walking, the hallway suddenly became stuffy. As if all the air was sucked out of it, leaving you to grasp your chest and breathe heavily. Everyone started crowding together and you were suddenly dragged into the crowd of students by your friend.

"Donghyuck. It's Lee Donghyuck and his friends!" The girls started squealing and whispering loudly amongst their friends. Whenever this happens, you tend to stay as far away from Hana as possible, knowing her huge crush on Lee Jeno, she'd drag you into all this mess, which you absolutely hated.

Lee Donghyuck. He was gorgeous. His face, perfectly shaped, as if molded ever so well by the gods and brought upon the Earth to wreak havoc towards the mortals. His fair skin, it glows in a different way unlike how Hana's glows. It's a glow that entrances you until you lose your mind, oblivious to the pain that comes after it. He was perfection, the ones that when you touch it, it stains gold that burns, beautiful yet painful.

Despite his good looks, it was prohibited that you fall for him. Lee Donghyuck is the heir to your family's rival company. All this feud started way back before both of you were brought into this earth. Both families fought for the #1 spot of businesses related to medicines. It has always been a close call, but your family always manages to stay on top with a few points ahead.

However, you had no hatred towards Donghyuck at all. You never had a thing for grudges or feuds, so as much as it was required to dislike him, you could never do so. You had always treated him as a friend. The one that you could never really have a strong connection with. The one that has to be kept in the shadows. A forbidden friendship.

It's once in a blue moon for you and Donghyuck to have a casual conversation, as it has always been imprinted in both of yours minds that rumors spread as fast as lightning, thus when articles spread about your little friendship, the reputation of both companies will hang on burning wires. Moreover, neither of you had the heart to cause problems.

You tried desperately to get out of the crowd as it was suffocating and the never ending squeals made your head hurt. Unfortunately, you couldn't. everyone was pushing like a herd of zebras in a waterhole. Instead of getting out, you were pushed towards the front, until you lost your balance. Your palms making contact with the marbled tiles.

"Are you alright?" A hand extended out in front of you, gesturing out a polite way to get you back on your feet. Lifting your head from the ground, you met with Donghyuck's beautiful face, the sunlight hitting every feature he has, making him seem bewitching. It was as if he was grazed gracefully by the sun god Apollo himself. A ravishing view indeed.

You heard him whisper, his soft and beguile voice rung in your ears, "Darling, you're staring. It drives me demented." With that, you placed your hand over his, as he helped to pull you up. Dusting your skirt, you shot him an annoyed look.

"I would never look at you that way Donghyuck." Lies. He raised his eyebrows, clearly refusing to believe your bold claims. He stood in front of you with his arms crossed over his chest and a stupid smirk played on his lips. "Why are you looking at me like that?" You sassed.

He just shrugged and continued smirking. Stupid smirk. It was that look that made you question yourself. How sure were you that you would never see him as anymore than a friend? Were you certain that you wouldn't fall for him? Those were questions, you might never get answers to.

You puffed out a breath of annoyance and shoved pass the crowd of confused girls. Clearly dumbfounded at the scene that played out before their eyes. As mentioned, you and Donghyuck rarely converse.

Donghyuck is the epitome of a collision between heaven and hell. He is everything beautiful yet dangerous. His quintessential features. Those as if perfectly sculpted by professionals. His soft eyes which can set your heart ablaze. His lips, a perfect color of pink. Luscious and soft, ones that make you lick your own. His dirty blonde hair, you can see the soft streaks of his brown roots, it looks so silky and glossy, it shines exquisitely as the sunlight beams over him.

However, he had a careless and fiery attitude. He strongly resembled a dazzling phoenix that soars through the sky. Setting everything it touches into flames and ruining them. He is elegant yet with his divine beauty, comes a riding agony.

After class, you walked out of the classroom with Hana beside you, relentless about her unfed curiosity. She has been bugging you the whole day, to spill details about your little encounter with Lee Donghyuck. But of course, you being the stubborn friend, you refused to answer her numerous questions and just continued walking.

As the both of you were talking, whispers and squeals once again fill the hallway. You raised your head to see Lee Donghyuck and his friends walking from afar. What an unfortunate event. Your eyes frantically searched for an escape route. The hallway exit towards the gym. You quickened your pace and turned your heel, walking out to the gym before you could meet up with the vexatious group of friends.

Completely ignoring Hana's voice calling out to you, you continue walking until you reached the entrance of the cafeteria. Taking a deep breath, you inhaled the sweet aroma of the school's cafeteria. You were quite hungry so you opted to buy a snack as you waited for the chauffeur to pick you up.

"In the mood for some cookies and milkshakes, darling?" An arm snaked around your shoulders as a familiar voice tickled your neck. Lee Donghyuck, why was he here?

You whipped your head to meet up face to face with the one guy you dreaded to see. He had that infernal smirk on his lips, once again. "Donghyuck, why are you here?" You asked him curtly. He withdrew his arm from your shoulder and stuffed it into the pockets of his black pants.

"Why are you avoiding me darling?" He asked. With every mention of the little endearment, you feel the butterflies in your stomach, palpitate. Your heart slowly melting like that of an ice cream in a hot summer day.

"Stop calling me that." You couldn't fall for him. It is a verboten feeling.

"Do I make your heart race darling?" He questions teasingly. You rolled your eyes, trying desperately to avoid falling deeper into those deep, alluring orbs of his. He was jesting you, and you were giving into it.

You would be lying to yourself if you said you didn't like him. You did, very much. But it was forbidden. What would your families say when rumors of you falling in love with the heir of Lee Medical Co. circulate? The companies' reputation would shatter.

Is Lee Donghyuck worth all that chaos? Maybe.

"You're a friend Donghyuck. You know the history between our families." You answered him, trying to seemingly forget the thousands of butterflies in your body. He licks his lips and crosses his arms over his chest. The way his tongue ran over his pinkish lips, it made your knees go weak, your mind fuzzy, unable to form coherent thoughts.

He reaches out to tuck a strand of your hair behind your ear, and whispers, "I know darling. But what will you do about those looks of affection that you give me? You don't think I notice them?"

You pushed him away from you and raised your brow, "Notice what Lee Donghyuck?"

He smirks once more.

"The way you stare at me darling. As if you've never seen such a masterpiece. As if I was some deity that descended from the sky. How you lick your lips when you stare at mine and how eagerly you try to avoid making eye contact with me, apprehensive that you may fall deeper than the depths of tartaros, with no way of getting back up. I notice them all darling."

He was right, and there was no denying it. You were scared, agitated that these feelings you had for him, would put you at risk and end up bringing affliction to your cynical heart. He had such charms that lured you towards him. Those that make your sense of thinking, incomprehensive.

Lee Donghyuck was the type of love that never could be. He was the seemingly perfect love story that ended tragically. He was that love that was beautiful, a love so patient, so kind, so genuine, but impermissible. He was that love that the world conspired against.

He was an illicit desire.

The folder thudded against the desk, the weight of its importance impressive...to anyone else. As it happened, his daughter just glanced at it before continuing on with the paperwork already under her nose.

“What’s that?”

“Your new contract.”

Byleth’s pen stayed, her dark eyes flicking up to meet his. Every day, Jeralt was stunned by the spitting image his daughter painted of his wife. Well, the painting was a forgery in one aspect--Byleth’s smiles were a work of fiction.

“I’m not taking new contracts.” Her tone, flatter than usual, brooked no argument. Jeralt frowned. He supposed it was his fault that his child had turned out so stubborn. He had done his best with her, of course, but even so...

When Byleth showed every intention of ignoring the file, Jeralt decided to level with her.

“Look, kid: I know your last contract didn’t...work out.”

Byleth’s brow furrowed ever so slightly. It was enough to let Jeralt know that he was treading into dangerous waters. They did not discuss the Blaiddyd contract in this house.

“But what’re you gonna do, not work for the rest of your life?”

Byleth spun in her chair, giving her father her back. He sighed and rubbed the back of his head. How on earth had his wife talked him into having children?

“Despite what happened, you’re still good at what you do, kid. Damn good. It’d be a shame for you to quit now.”

“I can get another job.”

The notion was half-hearted, and they both knew it. Jeralt seized that wavering tone he could sense just beyond her words.

“Aren’t you just a little curious? This offer came straight from Boss Lady herself.”

Byleth’s head perked up then. Jeralt smirked as she turned just enough to side-glance at him. As much as he hated the hold Rhea seemed to have over his daughter, he would admit that maybe this was just what Byleth needed to shake off the funk she’d been in lately.

“....” Byleth spun back around, her eyes bouncing between the file and Jeralt. Ah, there it was--that little spark of intrigue. That was all Jeralt needed.

“There’s been a stir in the politics game lately,” he explained, turning to the television in the corner of the office. He raised the remote and clicked it on, the sound muted. Sure enough, there he was, splashed across their chosen news station: his daughter’s new assignment. “He’s been saying a lot of stuff that’s a little too idealistic, if you ask me. But his charisma is unparalleled. People’re callin’ him ‘the face of Fodlan’s unification.’” Jeralt set down the remote and eyed his daughter. “Some of the stuff he’s been sayin’ has put a target on his back, too.”

Byleth’s gaze was more unimpressed than usual as she watched the young man onscreen gesticulate in front of an enraptured crowed.

“Is he a politician or a peacock?” she grumbled. Jeralt laughed at that.

“I’ll leave it up for you to decide.” Just as Byleth was slowly reaching for the file, however, Jeralt snatched it up, regarding her raised eyebrows grimly. “But I’m not gonna give ya the job if you’re gonna be half-hearted about it. If you’re gonna do this, kid, ya gotta be sharp. Understand?”

Byleth seemed to understand his meaning: as much as he wanted her to get back in the game, he would not encourage her at the cost of her life. If she wanted the job, she had to let go of the past.

That wasn’t always so easy to do--Jeralt knew that perfectly well. But as much as his own shadows haunted him, he’d be damned if he would let the same fate befall his daughter. He had raised her to be better than him, so better she would be.

Byleth straightened her shoulders and gave a firm nod. At that signal, it was only with the barest hint of concern that he handed the file back to her.

“Go get ‘em, kid.”

For the life of her, Byleth just couldn’t understand why anyone believed buildings had to be this big. Did they fancy themselves close to their gods when they built structures that reached the sky? Did the Tower of Babel teach them nothing?

Shaking her head, Byleth quieted that ancient griping at the back of her head. Thoughts that went on diatribes like that often came out of nowhere; whenever she voiced them, her father would laugh and call her an ‘old soul’. That wasn’t quite it...but since she had no other explanation, she would just nod along. It was better than being the alternative.

Her new assignment was situated on the top floor--of course. Byleth suppressed her eye roll as she stepped into the elevator. The tinkling music playing overhead did nothing to settle her nerves, so she did her best to soothe herself with breathing exercises, measuring her breathing as the elevator changed floors. It didn’t bother to stop in between any other floors; Byleth wondered if the elevator she’d been directed to had exclusive access to the top floor, despite having buttons for every other floor. Or was it just coincidence?

Before she could figure it out--and it was part of her job to figure it out--the elevator chimed, and the doors opened right into a lobby of some sorts. As Byleth stepped out of the elevator, the pink-haired woman behind what was presumably the secretary’s desk hopped up in surprise.

“Oh, hi~! Um, excuse me, but are you lost? This is kind of a restricted floor.”

Byleth stepped forward, assessing the woman. Dainty, gilded, hardly a threat...at least, she wouldn’t be, if Byleth couldn’t see that can of mace hidden behind her back. A part of her was impressed.

“I’m Byleth Eisner,” she introduced herself, slowly retrieving her business card from her breast pocket so the ‘delicate flower’ wouldn’t jump the gun and do something regrettable. “Your boss is expecting me.”

The pink-haired woman’s rose-colored eyes took in the business card before she blinked up at Byleth, her lips pursing.

“Is that so...”

She sounded like she didn’t believe Byleth. It wouldn’t be the first time. A part of Byleth was annoyed by the perpetual underestimation she had to go through, but the more practical part of her did what any woman in her position would do: she used it to her advantage.

Before she could ask when she could expect to see the man in question, a door to her right opened, and the man himself stepped into the lobby. He was dressed smartly in a tan suit; Byleth could see the black vest underneath as he was shrugging his blazer into place. He wasn’t focused on the room; his eyes were staring in the distance as he was finishing a phone call.

“--as I said, Lorenz, you catch more flies with honey--yes, I know, he was abominably rude to you, but what do you expect from a dictator? Besides, we only have to make nice until he’s ousted, which from the protests we’ve been seeing, that won’t be long. Now please let it go. Yes, I’m on my way to see you now, when am I not? Honestly, with how much you demand me to see you, the tabloids will start stirring up rumors that we’re sleeping toge--I’m joking! Please calm down before you permanently furrow that alabaster brow of yours, all right? I’ll see you in twenty.”

He finally hung up his phone, tucking it into an inner pocket of his blazer as his eyes found his secretary.

“Lorenz is getting antsy. Can you forward my calls to my cell?”

“Sure, but...” the woman’s eyes flickered to Byleth. “You have a...guest.”

The man was in the process of putting on his sunglasses, so Byleth had to watch him do the exaggerated once-over over them as he took her in. His eyes were a deep shade of green; they reminded her of deep acres of forests, the kind that held ancient secrets hidden from the everyday view of the common man.

“I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure,” he said, pulling his sunglasses off again as his face lit up in a hundred-watt smile. Byleth was interested to see that said smile did not reach his eyes; those remained distant, careful. Calculating. “How can I help you, Miss--?”

“Eisner. Byleth Eisner.” Byleth stepped forward, holding her hand out for a handshake. “I’m your new bodyguard.”

The man paused, reacting a little late in shaking her hand.

“Really?” He looked her over once more, as if he’d missed something. “You’re from Saint Seiros Co.? The woman they call ‘The Ashen Demon’?”

Byleth’s expression was neutral as she gave a nod. She wasn’t particularly fond of that nickname...but work was work.

There was one more glance-over--focused longer on her breasts than she liked--before his eyes met hers once more.

“Well. You’re not what I expected.”

Byleth’s eyebrows flicked upwards.

“I rarely am,” she admitted. That managed to get a genuine smile from the man, much to her surprise.

“I like you,” he decided, quite abruptly as he gave her hand a firm squeeze. “Claude von Riegan.”

“I know who you are.”

“I suppose you do,” he agreed with a laugh. He finally released her hand, carding it through his dark hair. “I suppose you also know why you’re here.”

Byleth nodded.

“You’ve been receiving death threats.”

Claude winced at the simple words, a hand over his heart like they were wounding him physically.

“Just a couple,” he agreed. The pink-haired woman scoffed.

“‘A couple’?! We had to order the post office to stop our mail for a whole month!”

“No one got hurt, Hilda.”

“Still,” she sniffed, her dainty nose wrinkling in disgust. Claude patter her head sympathetically, and was rewarded with a swat and a complaint of messing up her hair.

“So yeah, my granddad figured I could use some extra muscle.” Claude raised his eyebrows at Byleth. “Lots of scary letters threatening my imminent demise. That means papercuts. Thousands of ‘em. Think you can handle it?”

In that moment, Byleth cataloged several things at once:

One, Claude von Riegan was not a very serious man. At least, he appeared not to be. His true nature had yet to be determined.

Two, it was most likely his grandfather’s idea for him to run for office--in Byleth’s research, she had taken note of the von Riegan family history, and concluded that politics ran in their blood. This most recent iteration of von Riegan was straying a bit from the party line, though...for what reason? Money? Publicity? She’d have to figure that out soon as well.

And three, whoever was taking the time to send him a never-ending barrage of death threats wasn’t playing games. They were serious about wanting his life. Which meant that Byleth certainly had her work cut out for her, whether Claude von Riegan knew it or not.

A shrill tune rang through the air. Claude tutted, frowning at the screen.

“I’d better go. Lorenz is going to start having kittens at this rate. Can you hold down the fort, Hilda?”

“Way ahead of you,” Hilda replied, sitting down at her desk once more and returning to the very busy work of filing her nails. Byleth spared her a glance before she made to follow Claude. This seemed to surprise him.

“Yes?”

Byleth stared at him. What did he mean, ‘yes’?

“I’m accompanying you.” At his blink, Byleth’s gaze went flat. “That is what a bodyguard does.”

“Oh, I’m just meeting Lorenz. There’s no danger there,” Claude assured her with a bright grin. Byleth remained unmoved.

“With all due respect, sir, I would be negligent in my duties if I did not accompany you from now on. What could just be a meeting to you could turn sour very quickly, if you don’t know what to look for.”

Claude’s smile faded, his eyes becoming critical again as he stared at her.

“I really think I’ll be fine,” he insisted. Byleth took a step closer to him.

“You will be,” she agreed, eyes never wavering from his, “because I will be there to protect you. Even if you find it unnecessary.”

Silence fell between them as they sized each other up, Claude testing the metal that surrounded Byleth’s resolve as she took shape of the glass he used to barricade himself from others without them even noticing. The staring match was only interrupted by the clearing of Hilda’s throat.

“Claude, if you don’t leave soon, Lorenz is going to start calling me.”

That must’ve been an undesirable situation; Claude shot her an apologetic grin over his shoulder before he returned to his stride to the elevator.

“Sorry, Hild. I’m going now.” As he pressed the button for the elevator, he turned once more to look at Byleth. “After you, Miss Eisner.”

“Byleth’s fine,” Byleth corrected him, preceding him on the elevator as he requested. His eyes twinkled with interest as he followed her.

“As you wish, Miss Bodyguard.”

Byleth leveled him a flat look. Something told her they were going to be having a lot more battles in this regard. She’d better get to work sharpening her blades.

For all that she had come to hate imposing her will on others through violence - for all that she knew it would undermine every pretty speech she'd ever made about wanting to truly change, for wanting the Sith to be something better than the schoolyard bullies that they were - it wasn't a move she was above making, either, not if her bluff was called and her hand forced.

('We have saying, on Onderon,' Aemilia had mused. 'Hope for peace. Prepare for war.'

'That doesn't sound like a very Jedi sentiment,' Eirn had replied, amused. Granted, Eirn knew very little about the Jedi orthodoxy, and in truth, didn't care too, either. but prepare for war sounded more like a sentiment that Baras would have been fond of - at least, if you ignored the hope for peace part.

'I said it was from Onderon,' Aemilia had replied, smiling to herself, 'Not the Temple.')

'I don't intend to let the Republic claim it, either,' she added - 'Or the Alliance, for that matter. The sort of power this place can unleash shouldn't be wielded by any one of us.'

Acina, though, just snorted - looked Eirn up and down, at that, judging her for every moment. 'And who are you, Wrath, to judge what power I may wield?'

'I'm not here to judge, Empress,' Eirn replied, sourly - though there was more than enough judgement on Iokath to go around. 'But the last people to be so blasé about destroying whole worlds were Arcann - and Vitiate. I was hoping you might be more reasonable.'

An insult, probably; Acina certainly looked insulted, though her expression seemed to be cycling between insulting and derisive as it was. Being reasonable was not generally a quality prized among Sith - certainly not the kinds of Sith who clawed their way onto the Dark Council, never mind those who managed to seat themselves on the Empire's throne.

'I am perfectly reasonable,' she replied, sharply - glaring at Eirn, as if daring her to challenge this. 'And I am doing what any reasonable person would to defend my Empire.'

'And you think this will be the end of it?' Eirn replied - who was rapidly running out of ground, and she knew it. 'That if you take this world and its technology for your own, that the Republic won't be scrambling to build something just as bad? That they won't use it, as soon as you do?'

Acina's gaze hardened further, at that - her nostrils flared, her lips thinned, her aura bristled with the static that built before a storm. 'Is that a threat, Wrath?'

'It's not a threat, Empress,' Eirn replied, flatly. 'It's a fact. Or are you really telling me,' she added, 'That you wouldn't do exactly the same, in their place?'

'I'd do whatever was necessary to defend myself,' Acina replied, tartly - or some facsimile thereof, an attempt to cover up her own defensiveness with wit. 'And the best defence is a good offence, Wrath. Surely Baras taught you that much, before you turned on him?' she scoffed - crossing her arms, a slight, arrogant, slouch working its way into her otherwise perfect posture.

'Baras turned on me,' Eirn replied - immediately side-tracked by ancient history, of course, and floundering to try and keep up. 'And what he taught me,' she added, 'Is that Sith who would wage war at all costs do more harm to the Empire than the Republic ever could.' There. Back on track.

Acina, at that, just smirked - a smug, victorious expression, that promised nothing good. 'Then you will be relieved to know, dear Meliora, that I do not intend to wage war. I will end it, with or without you.'

Well, that didn't bode incredibly poorly - just like everything else about this place, and Eirn was about to reply when Acina got there first.

'The truth, Wrath,' Acina added, 'Is that by even asking for this, you have shown your hand. You don't have control of Iokath,' she mused, 'Or you'd have forced us off, with or without your new friends. So you've come crawling to me, in the hope that- what? You can bluff your way to victory? Please. You may have skill with a lightsaber,' she smirked, 'But that's not what's going to win this war, and we both know that.'

Not just one insult - a series of them, Acina not just taking jabs at Eirn but everything she had haltingly attempted. Eirn's first thought was that Acina wasn't being much better; her second was that at least she had skill with a lightsaber, and her third was annoyance that Acina had so expertly derailed her thoughts entirely.

'I would prefer, Empress,' Eirn replied, slowly, 'For there not to be war at all. That's not a bluff. It's the truth. Nobody else has to die, here. But if you try to control Iokath-'

Acina just snorted again, not letting Eirn finish. 'Don't threaten me, Meliora. Strike at the Empire again, and-'

'It's not a threat, Acina,' Eirn hissed - interrupting the Empress, this time. 'The people of Iokath destroyed themselves fighting over the weapons here, and-'

'In that case, Wrath,' Acina replied, interrupting her again in turn, 'You should probably leave, while you still can.' She smiled, at that - her expression that of Sith diplomacy, all poisoned honey and slim knives. 'It would be terrible, after all, were anyone to needlessly die.'

The air was no better, in Acina's absence; just as tense, just as sharp, and just as judgemental. It took every gram of Eirn's self-control not to sprint back to her shuttle, as though it could provide some rest or refuge that seemed as elusive on this world as it did on any other.

The fact it couldn't, helped; all it contained was Lana, her own aura muddied with concern, though Eirn didn't like to entertain too many possibilities as to that concern's focus. Lana, for all her having parted with the Empire, was far more Sith than Eirn was - at least, the sort of Sith the Empire prized, instead of punished.

'I take it,' Lana began, as the shuttle lifted off - headed, ostensibly, back towards Republic command - 'That the Empress was not amenable to your suggestions?'

It was accompanied, of course, by a mildly amused smile; a smile, not a smirk, as though Eirn was somehow not the punchline. Lana approved of this stop the war plan almost as much as Acina did - almost as much as Malcom seemed to, and Eirn was rapidly starting to wonder if there was anyone left in the galaxy who was fed up with all the fighting.

'Just tell me that was worth it,' Eirn just sighed - slumping in the copilot's seat, trying not to let her exhausted dejection get the better of her, and mostly failing.

'It was worth it,' Lana replied - her own attention mostly on the shuttle, as they took off, but paying Eirn at least enough to reply. 'I was able to take a peek into the Imperial data network. I'd need time to run a full comparison, but it seems that the information they were working from was the same that we and the Republic received. But that's not our only problem.'

Of course it is. Eirn hadn't expected anything else, though she'd needed to be sure - needed to know, if nothing else, that Acina and M- Quinn hadn't been the ones responsible for forcing this confrontation. That the Empire wasn't- well, the Empire was always fixing for a fight, and fights it couldn't win, at that - but this wasn't their doing, not this time.

Of course, there was a chance that Lana was not telling the whole truth; a chance, at that, that the Empire had anticipated even this, and lain a trap accordingly. This hadn't been the first time Acina had gambled on Eirn's loyalty, and it was the second time she'd lost (but what, her paranoia murmured, if this was no loss? If she is looking for a way to destroy you, to avenge what she sees as your betrayal? And the Empire will see you as a traitor, after this - never mind after your refusal of their aid on Voss, and to aid them in turn against Zakuul. And after that oath you swore the Council, too-)

'Problem?' Eirn repeated, eventually - that word finally burrowing its way through her paranoia's ramblings and not so much grabbing her attention as demanding it, banging its fists on her walls until she paid it the attention it thought itself due.

'Yes,' Lana replied - nodding curtly and, when Eirn glanced at her, furrowing her brow faintly in distant worry. 'I'd need to look into the data more, but it seems as though the Empire have begun construction on their own control device, based on the plans in the data package. The incomplete plans.'

Shit. 'That's not good,' Eirn replied - that was a whole world of not good. If Iokath's own inhabitants hadn't managed to slice into the superweapon without triggering its faildeadly-

'No,' Lana replied, 'It's not. I need to check the data, but-'

'Pass me the flight controls,' Eirn interrupted, sitting up - focusing up, grabbing at her worried adrenaline and attempting to direct it somewhere useful. 'You check the data. If Acina's building something that could-'

She paused at that, though - half not wanting to give that worried train of thought more voice than she had to, and half because Lana had passed her the controls and she needed to concentrate. Her piloting skills had never been more than 'adequate' - she would be useless if they were caught in combat, but adequate was more than enough to get them to the Republic command post.

'We'll need to move quickly,' Eirn finished, slightly absently, the task at hand routine enough that she could let her hands do the thinking, and complex enough to demand enough of her attention that her paranoia was, for once, almost drowned out.

'I'll be in the back,' Lana just replied - disentangling herself from the pilot's chair, before standing to move. 'And-'

'Signal the Republic,' Eirn added, before Lana could finish that thought. There was no way the Alliance could do this on their own; they both knew that much, even if neither Sith was entirely happy with their arrangements (even if one was distinctly more unhappy than the other). 'We need to stop this, before it gets any further out of hand.'

For a moment, Lana didn't respond; for a moment, Eirn was half convinced that she was about to argue, but the moment passed and the tension in the air resolved itself into muted disagreement.

'Very well,' Lana replied - along with a curt nod, and with that, was gone to the comm panel, leaving Eirn at the helm, alone.

Which was, as always, the least of her problems.

The merging of the teaching with powerful emotional experiences – Allen Tate Wood

Allen Tate Wood, author, lecturer and consultant on the cult phenomenon, interviewed at North Texas State University in the summer of 1985.

Tom Waldren: When would the prospective candidate first become aware that this was the Moonies, that this was a religious cult?

Allen Tate Wood: Well, they may never be aware. My wife was never aware. She said after ten days with the Moonies, ‘Thank God you lied to me in the beginning. If you hadn’t lied to me in the beginning I never would have joined.’ I worked with a boy in 1978 who was a freshman at Yale, and he had come out of the Moonies, and he had been in it for 30 days, he’d been in a Unification Church training center in Northern California for 30 days and he’d never heard the name Sun Myung Moon. He’d never heard reference to the Moonies. He was in the organization. He didn’t even know what the name of the organization was. He was told it was the Creative Community Project. But the environment of the cult training center is designed to overthrow you, to overwhelm you and the variables that are operating there are this control. It’s control of communication, control of movement, control of language. Ultimately the attempt to control your thinking.

So if you want to conceptualize what goes on in a training session you can think of it very simply like this—on the one hand is the presentation of the group’s teaching, its ideology. They’re slowly filtering that into you over a period of three days. In addition to that, you have the behavioral regime. The psychological manipulation; the emotional manipulation; the controls; the piercing and penetrating of your defenses; the subterfuge and the deception which is used to get you to give us information about you so that we can use that very information to pull you closer to us. At the very end, you’ve had a lot of powerful emotional experiences. You’ve felt really drawn to this group. You’ve felt like there’s something really positive happening here. We then want to connect up the result of the psychological control and manipulation with our ideology to make you believe that your powerful experiences are the result of the truth of our teaching.

Tom Waldren: So, in essence it’s a breakdown.

Allen Tate Wood: That’s right.

Tom Waldren: And then?

Allen Tate Wood: And then it’s the merging of the teaching with these powerful emotional experiences and in the end we tell you, what’s happened to you Tom is, you haven’t just had a good time, but when you were crying yesterday and you were feeling kind of ecstatic, and then when you were just crying with grief this morning, you were meeting God. God himself is speaking to you through our teaching, through its truth. And at the very end, we give you this existential experience of God himself, and also the devil. And that’s very hard to get around. And we say, throughout the course of the weekend Tom, part of you has been drawn to us. Part of you has felt that this is wonderful, something good is happening here. Another part of you has thought, ‘Hey, wait a second, what’s going on here? This is kind of dinky? This is kind of weird. Why are these people so happy? Why are they so positive?’ We then tell you, that critical part of you is a devil. That is Satan trying to break your connection to us. So you are now at the center of the stage of world history and God himself is calling you to join with him in his work of restoration. To fight the satanic history, to fight communism, to stand for God, truth, the family, justice, peace—you know all these good things. And all you have to do, is just stay for another three days. We have another three day workshop where we are going to go more deeply into the teaching. And what we do is we go more deeply into manipulating and controlling you, into manufacturing these experiences which are now convincing you that you are in the hands of God.

Tom Waldren: So there’s an answer for everything.

Allen Tate Wood: There’s an answer for everything, and we could produce the same experiences with a totally different teaching. The teaching is not the critical thing. The critical thing is the environmental, the emotional, the psychological, the human control that we exert over you through a whole series of steps which are designed to destroy your own self-control. To destroy your autonomy, and to make you feel you have fallen into the hands on an absolute power that is totally competent to manage you and to decide for you who and what you should be and what you should do.

Tom Waldren: There was widespread fear when this became known that this was going on, this type of brainwashing thing, I think mainly from the parents. Did you ever encounter parents coming after their kids?

Allen Tate Wood: Not when I was in the Unification Church, well once or twice. But afterwards, Yeah, I met many, many parents whose children had joined the Unification Church or similar organizations. And their situation is a very difficult one. It’s very difficult to bring aid to people who have joined totalist social systems. In the first place they don’t believe in dialog. And in the second place the teaching of the groups explicitly states that anybody that disagrees with the group is satanic. So the young person inside the group is effectively trapped inside. They don’t have access to alternative information; they don’t have access to alternative authorities who could help them understand what has happened to them. They’re like flies in amber.
