Hi, I have a request! Could you write a Mumbo x reader oneshot where the reader is some sort of moon god? Maybe one where they share their first kiss ir go on a date? Just lots of fluff + flustered, blushy Mumbo and shy reader :))
Kiss me under the Moon and Stars
Pairing: C! Mumbo Jumbo x Reader
Summary: In which you find a mortal who notices you in the dark of night
Genre: Fluff
Words: 1.8K
Extra notes: I miss Mumbo- and also- moon deity Y/n <3 Thank you dear anon <3 This takes place in season 8 (Can you tell I love season 8???)
Content warnings (If any): Just a sun god (That isn't Bdubs) trying to hit on you, He gets shut down real quick,
Eons of watching
it gets boring after a few hours
Millennia of watching and shining on people who don't recognize your brilliance
Millennia of pushing and pulling the tides for those same people and still not being told thank you
At least, not until you began to become angry, one day you snapped as the sun god taunted you once again
"Oh Y/n," He sighs, voice slathered with honey and oil making it smooth and sweet "Aren't you tired of not being recognized? For being outcasted and shamed? Don't you want to be praised? Noticed?"
"And end up like you Sol?" You snort at his offer "No thanks. I appreciate being the object of your affection but egotistical isn't my type."
"Come on love," Sol saddled on up next to you and gripped your shoulders "With me you'll be famous, A classic trope, something people will treasure for eons. Without me, no one will ever notice you."
CRACK
Soon, Sol wound up on the ground clutching his nose as crimson red dripped and the metallic smell of blood wafted through the air
"WHAT THE HELL?!" He yelped and frantically scrambled away from you as you stepped closer and grabbed him by the collar of his robes
"I dont need you," You scowled "if I wanted recognition I would do the extremes."
You soon dropped him and shrunk down to a human size of 12'5 (365.75 cm) and walked off the clouds of where the gods resided while flipping off Sol as you fell into a part of your domain
The water enveloped you without so much as a splash and you changed into more modern clothing so as to not scare the current locals of the human realm
"I'll show him," You grumbled as you walked out of the water and the moon rose just as you sat on a manmade mountain within a small village
What perfect timing
Now, moving the moon isn't some grand feat
but taking it out of its orbit was difficult to even for a deity like you
Being the moons protector and guardian was a challenge that sol had no idea
Taking care of the tides, pushing and pulling constantly
raising it and making sure it sets on time
even making sure the stars twinkle was a difficult thing
and no one notices
You'll show them
It takes them a few months to notice.
But one day, a man in a suit stood next to an avian with a red sweater and asked, "Hey Grian, Is the moon getting bigger?"
This 'Grian' shrugged it off but his friend stared at the moon, at you, before turning and joining his friend
Him
You needed to meet him
So that night you entered his home and blessed his dreams with Visions of you and your instructions.
If he should follow them, Great!
should he not? There will be no repercussions other than nightmares... and possibly the world ending
The next few months passed in a blur until you finally felt your power surge and when you visited the town, you saw a beautiful shrine with a moon and offerings.
He did it
He did it
You have to reward him
Before he enters his home, you step in front of him and he almost crashes into your legs. He looks up with wide eyes before dipping into a deep bow and saying "o-oh! My holiness!"
"Please," you say softly and kneel down next to him, a gentle finger caressing his cheek "No need for the formalities. Call me Y/n. Can you please get up and get ready? I want to reward you for the shrine. I don't have many followers, and those I do have aren't that devoted enough to put up a shrine. Please, let me reward you and take care of you."
he just flushed a red and nodded before scurrying inside and getting dressed in his suit while you waited outside.
"Just the slacks and button-up will do," You say "It's nothing fancy. Just a walk. Think of it as a date."
There was a crash and mumbo rushed out with his shirt half-buttoned up and flushed a bright red before stammering out "a- a Date!?"
"Oh! is that the wrong terminology?" Y/n asked "oooh- what was it? No... Oh! A hook-up!"
Mumbo looked like he would malfunction if he were a machine. His mouth opened and closed but no words came out and he avoided your gaze.
"No- No- That was- No that was the right word." He explained and covered his face with his hands out of embarrassment "I just- oh my- I just wasn't expecting you to say that."
a single cold finger touched Mumbo's warm cheek gently and when he looked up you had an amused look on your face.
Goodness, you had forgotten how funny humans could be
"Why? A date doesn't have to be inherently romantic... not unless you want it to be?" You asked a smile playing on your lips
"I- I would- I would love it to be a date! A romantic one at least!" He exclaimed and ran a hand through his hair making it messed up
"Okay, Give me a second." You murmured and shrunk yourself until you were just barely taller than him "This should be less threatening, and we can hold hands!"
You carefully intertwine your hand with his and smiled softly, unaware on how he would react. To your surprise, he only gulped and swung your intertwined hands.
"Perfect," You muttered and began walking toward an empty space under the moon "So Tell me Mumbo, what is it that you humans do? I see you everytime but never interact."
"Oh!" He exclaimed "We do everything. We have to survive so we grow our own food, we build our home ad we make machines so things are easy for us."
"That sounds... difficult." You scrunched up your face at the amount of work "Thats that's because I'm so used to have everything served to me."
"It's simple actually," Mumbo said and You rolled your eyes "Well, its also a lot of work pulling the moon over our horizon and pushing it back down too. I can't imagine doing all that only for everyone to just... not see the beauty of it.'
"Yes!" You exclaim and for the first time in centuries, it felt like someone finally understood you and all your hard work "Thank you. The moon is a stubborn old thing but its so beautiful. Albeit it only shines because pf the sun, but still its ever so beautiful and the stars shine brighter with the moon glowing around it. Oh! We're here by the way."
You had led Mumbo to a small clearing in the nearby dark oak woods with beautiful flowers and a simple light blue blanket laid on the floor with pillows all around.
"Sit, Sit," You said and sat down, patting the spot next to you "It's not much but I hope it can suffice?"
Now that you actually weren't in a rush to please him, you took your first look at him. Slicked back black hair, eyes as dark as the night sky with stars in them, and a mustache that can enchant anyone. His eyes were kind, and he was very... fidgety, but he was very open. He was tall, even at the height of 7'4, Mumbo stood tall at 7'2. His voice was soft and very British sounding but comforting and reassuring.
"You know, Gods can't fall in love with humans." You mentioned and leaned closer to him "But I'm one of the major gods of the universe, think they'll make an exception?"
"Wh- What?" He stammered over his words and flushed a bright red "Wh- Who- What- What do you mean?"
"I may be coming off as a little strong and maybe this is too soon, But I would love to take you on as my partner." You replied "You are kind, smart, and very adorable... but only if you would like that. I won't push too hard and I want to respect you."
"I'd have to think about it," he said after a moment of hesitance "For now, can we just hang out?"
"Absolutely," You grinned back
Perfect
He passed
usually, people would jump at the chance to date a god, they think it will give them power, money, and riches.
They were all greedy and you hated those types of people.
He was different.
Time passed and soon the dawn began to break, you knew you should leave before sol saw you but you were having too much fun to care. Mumbo was smart, funny, and passionate and you had never laughed this hard in all the centuries you lived and suddenly a mortal had been able too.
"I must take you back home," You whisper and lean against him "As the sun rises, sol comes out. He will be angry if he sees you with me. You see, I am the object of his affections but He is not mine."
"Oh..." Mumbo looked sad to part and you wanted to comfort him but unless the stars align perfectly-
Your thoughts were cut off as he shyly asked "Can I have a goodbye kiss then?"
When you looked at him with wide eyes he flushed a deeper red. He was flustered and he made you want to hide your face in your hands.
"Are you sure?" You asked him and cupped his face gently
He leaned in close, you could feel his breath mingle with yours and his eyes flutter shut and he moved his hand behind your head before whispering
"Yes"
You leaned in the rest of the amount and sparks flew when you kissed him
legitimately-
Red sparks flew from his lips as he kissed you but it didn't stop you as you kissed him harder, not wanting to forget the feel, taste, and touch of Mumbo.
Unfortunately, you had to breathe and so did he so you pulled apart from each other and leaned your foreheads on each other when catching your breath.
"I would love to be your partner, y/n." He said softly and looked up at you through his lashes
"I will treat you to everything I can give you and everything that you would ever want or need." You replied
Now- now you had to figure out how to put the moon back and stop it from crashing into the earth though.

Heart of Middle Earth Chapter 4: “So it Begins…”
Thump. Thump. Thump.
You stir in your sleep, trying to work out what that thumping sound is. As you realize where you are, your eyes fly open. The dwarves around you are packing up their gear into their packs.
“I was just about to wake you up, lass!” Bofur says standing above you.
“How soon are we leaving?”
“Just as soon as everyone is packed.”
Bilbo had lent you some blankets and pillows to sleep on, so you fold them up and placed them neatly on the couch nearest you.
“Are we going to tell Bilbo that we are leaving?” You ask Gandalf.
“Let the hobbit sleep, goodness knows he needs it after last night.”
“I bet he’ll wake up and come running after us!” Ori theorizes.
“No, the hobbit will stay. He’s made his choice.” Thorin asserts.
You all manage to leave the hobbit hole without waking the sleeping hobbit. Thorin assigned the group in which order they would walk. Him in front, the others in the middle, and Fili, Kili, and you in the back. You know he placed you in the back because he thought you would struggle to keep up, though you don’t mind because you get a chance to talk to Fili and Kili. When you get to Bree, Gandalf hands you several gold and silver coins, and tells you to buy whatever you might need for the adventure. You walk around the town and buy clothes, a scabbard, a sword, boots, and a sleeping roll. Kili convinces you to also get a bow and arrows.
(Outfit options)
When you get back, you notice Fili saddling a chestnut colored horse.
“Ah, Miss Y/n. I was just tightening the saddle for you.”
“Thank you, but I don’t know how to ride a horse.”
“You don’t?”
“No, where I come from we don’t really ride horses a lot.”
“What a strange place… well no matter, we’ll only be riding slowing today so more time for you to practice!”
“I could also just walk-”
You’re cut off by Fili lifting you up onto the horse.
“What are you doing!?”
“Helping you learn. Best way to learn something is to jump right in.”
“If you say so.”
Once Fili makes sure you are steady on your horse, he jumps onto his and moves so that his horse is right beside yours.
“I’ll be right here if you need me.”
“And I’ll be right here on your other side,” Kili adds.
“Thanks, I feel so much safer,” you say sarcastically.
You ride for about an hour, feeling more confident about riding a horse, though that might be because you have a prince either side of you. You start to daydream, getting interrupted when you hear,
“Wait! Wait! I signed it.”
Balin takes the contract and looks it over.
”Everything appears to be in order. Welcome, master Baggins, to the company of Thorin Oakenshield.”
When Bilbo asks if he can walk instead of ride, he gets lifted up on a pony just as suddenly as you did in Bree.
In front of you, you hear, “Come on, Nori! Pay up!”
“What’s that about?” Bilbo questions.
Oh, they took wagers on whether or not you’d turn up. Most of them bet that you wouldn’t,” Gandalf answers.
Bilbo: And what did you think?
Just as before Gandalf could answer a coin sack is tossed at him.
“My dear fellow, I never doubted you for a second.”
“Neither did I,” you add, though you were not included in the bet.
Bilbo sneezes, “Oh, it’s horse hair. Having a reaction. Uh…wait, wait. Stop! Stop! We have to turn around. I forgot my handkerchief.”
Bofur turns his horse around and tears off a piece of his cloak, “Here! Use this.”
“You’ll have to manage without pocket handkerchiefs, and a good many other things, Bilbo Baggins, before we reach our journey’s end. You were born to the rolling hills and little rivers of the Shire. But home is now behind you. The world is ahead.”
Over the next couple of days you hear orcs in the night and find out how annoying and big trolls are. Thankfully, Gandalf saves you before you were eaten. The dwarves raid the troll cave and bury some of the treasure inside for safe keeping.
You meet Radagast the Brown and get chased by Orcs on Wargs. Fili grabbed your hand at some point while you are all running, helping you stay with the group and not fall behind.
Gandalf finds a way to escape the Orcs and you and Fili slide down into the cave just before you were both caught. You follow the pathway through the cave and come out to, “The Valley of Imladris. In the common tongue, it’s known by another name.”
“Rivendell.”

God of War
Developer: Santa Monica Studio Publisher: PlayStation PC LLC Steam Deck Compatibility?: Verified Rrp: £39.99 (Gog.com, Humble, Steam and Epic) Released: 14th January 2022 Available on: Gog.com, Humble, Steam and Epic Played Using: An Xbox One Control Pad and a Steam Deck Approximate game length: 40 hours +
I’m just going to say this now, until this one I’ve never played any of the God of War games. From what I’m given to understand this game is different from its predecessors in a number of ways, not least of which being the setting. For starters, Kratos (one of two main characters) is older than in the previous games, though it’s never specified how much older, another difference is the inclusion of his son Atreus (the second of the two main characters).
God of War originally released in 2018 on the Playstation 4 but has thankfully joined the slowly growing number of games that Playstation are allowing onto the PC (albeit five years later). The game is what I would call semi open world, where you can’t go just anywhere but the space in which you do have to play is quite extensive and densely packed.
Graphically this game is absolutely gorgeous and runs smoothly (even on my rig that's starting to show its age). On the Steam Deck it generally runs wonderfully though it does drain the battery incredibly quickly while not docked. I did have one instance of the game crashing while docked though it seems to have been a one off as I've not been able to replicate it.
As I mentioned this game is a densely packed semi open world so there is plenty to do. What I find quite impressive is that as you play through the game Kratos tries to use the various side missions as a way to teach Atreus lessons. I think that's a very smart way to show how Kratos has grown as a character from the previous games (from what I can tell) without making it explicit.
The combat is engaging and fast paced with multiple opponents trying to attack you at the same time forcing you to dodge and parry blows from different directions. If you do successfully parry an attack you’re rewarded with a brief window of time where the combat slows and you can take your opportunity to strike. Unlike many other games that saddle you with an NPC Atreus is actually useful, especially in combat, as he will attack enemies of his own accord or by your command. He even will sometimes restrain enemies allowing you to get free hits in or a moment's respite.
As you fight you'll build up ‘Spartan Rage’ (as depicted in a metre below your health bar). This metre increases from both dealing and taking damage. Once you activate this ‘Rage Mode’ you cause much more damage and are totally immune to all damage for the short time it lasts.
Defeated enemies sometimes drop healthstones that restore a portion of your health, resources for upgrading your equipment or hacksilver that can be used in stores. These can also be found within breakable pottery that's scattered around the world (except the resources, those are typically found in chests). Defeating enemies also grants experience (XP) but only once you’ve completed a combat encounter.
Experience (or XP) is spent on upgrading your skills, however you can also use it to upgrade the various runes you will find in the world that can be applied to your weapons and armour. In Atreus’s case not only can it be spent on making him a much more efficient fighter but also allow him some magical affinity.
Your ‘Goals’ (read objective) screen is separated into five parts; Journey, favours, labours, treasure maps and artefacts. Journey is the main storyline, favours are side quests, labour's are optional tasks such as ‘kill X creatures’, treasure maps I feel are self explanatory and artefacts are items found in the world. All of the goals and codex screens are written by Atreus which I think is a clever idea as Kratos doesn't seem to be the type to write things down. A great example of this is when you defeat an enemy type a few times more information in the form of hints will appear in that enemies bestiary entry.
If I had to level one complaint against this game it would be that it’s slightly guilty of over using and recycling enemy types. A great example of this are the trolls, through this game you’ll face a number of trolls (about six if memory serves) however they all have the same move set, and look the same apart from maybe being bigger or a different colour.
I did wonder if this game deserved all the hype it was given back when it first released and now having played it I get it. It’s a lot of fun with an interesting plot and charming characters. If you’ve not played this game don’t worry about not having played the previous titles, it really does stand up on its own so I heartily recommend it.

Hey can you tell us your headcanons for Kaze and Saizo?
Oh oops i totally forgot to answer this 😭
under a cut! i ramble
Hmmm, to me they are very much about separation and longing. Their father dies, and then Kaze watches his brother leave for a long time. When he comes back, he’s different, both in that he’s lost an eye and in his personality. I don’t imagine they were the closest of siblings when they were small, since they both have somewhat reserved personalities, but any closeness they did have is completely gone at this point. There’s an invisible chasm separating them. Kaze watches him, and there’s so much he wonders about, so much he wants to ask, so much pain that he can see but can’t share in. But he’s silent.
And obviously this goes two paths. In one, the rift between them is so big he cannot fathom how to reach across it. And one day he runs into the person who saved him before, that crazy person controlling the most bloodthirsty army in the world, who managed to take a fortress without killing a single soul. If his relationship with his brother were better, I think he would hesitate more at this point. But as things stand, he believes their quiet, awkward relationship to be unmendable. So he deserts from his homeland, never to fight alongside his brother again. Meeting him on the battlefield is devastating, and meeting him again in mokushu is likely even worse. Conquest!Kaze will likely always be saddled with guilt, and a longing for “what could have been.”
Alternatively, he does reach out. They do reconnect, Saizo does share with him what happened. He vows to shoulder the burden of their father’s death together. And suddenly, they’re…close? Not in the way the siblings of the royal family are close, but in their own way. They talk now sometimes, they spar, and the silences between them are no longer awkward or filled with unvoiced questions. I imagine Kaze doesn’t know what to do with this—he spent so long wishing things could go back to “normal,” like before their father died, but he never truly imagined what that would look like. The most confusing part is that the longing doesn’t leave. Before, he longed to reach out to him. But now that he has reached out, what exactly is he longing for? Why does it feel like there's something missing, like he wants something?
if you’re looking for something more like soft shippy headcanons rather than just… overview of their relationship, i’ll try hehe
I think they’re very soft. Their love language is one of touch, not so much words. Kaze can comfort Saizo much better with a hand on his cheek than with words of comfort. Also, once they’ve reconnected, they can say a lot to each other with just a glance.
Since their relationship is so natural, so quiet, I think they do a Very good job of hiding it. Saizo is probably pretty guilty about hiding it from Ryoma though, so they might tell him at some point.
Saizo gets Very jealous of all the girls who randomly shower Kaze with presents. Kaze tries to remind him that this has always happened, and it’s never worked on him, but Saizo won’t listen. In his jealousy he starts trying to buy Kaze better gifts, but he’s not actually all that good at it. Kaze however absolutely treasures the silly things Saizo gives him. He finds the jealousy kind of endearing.
When Saizo has clearly had a rough day, Kaze greets him by wordlessly removing his mask and giving him a kiss. I wrote a drabble like this
Saizo can actually be pretty handsy and possessive when they’re alone. Especially if he’s seen a lot of girls eyeing Kaze—girls Kaze probably didn’t even notice.
that is all i can think of for now!! enjoy the saizokaze
#saizokaze#kazesaizo#shipcest#btw i’ve played all of conquest#and like half of birthright??#i don’t think i got to the point where kaze is meant to die if you haven’t gotten A support with him#and i haven’t played revs lol#fates#ask#anon#fire emblem

*tears your door off the hinges and yeets it out of the window* You 🫵. About them basic ass self-ship asks.
Can I get a uhhhh.... 😘, 🐶, 💫 and 💋 for Heisenberg and/or Hancock pwease? <3c ~ @avid-adoxography
@avid-adoxography MY FUCKING DOOR-
/j/j I'm gonna' do both because any opportunity to talk about my babes I will take with eagerness!! Thank you so so much for askin'! :D
😘: What’s your f/o’s favorite thing about YOU? K.arl love my loyalty. The man could tell me to jump off a bridge and I'd trust his judgement enough to ask why while leaning halfway over. He knows that I follow him like a puppy all the time, and he loves getting his ego stroked because of it. That said, once he does realize that the loyalty is not from fear, admiration, or for a secret ploy to take his power it really strikes him hard. Like "Damn, this dude just likes me enough to listen to me and respect my demands?". Yes K.arl, I like you that much. 😤 J.ohn is more simple in the fact that he's just smitten from how much Rayne is a big sweetheart. Rayne is nice to most folk he meets and tries to help everyone and anyone. That's rare in the Wastes. Rayne is a rarity that H.ancock treasures so much. 🐶: If you and your f/o were to get a pet, what would it be? I said this on my last blog somewhere but I stand by it; K.arl and I would get Rottweilers. Big, goofy, rotties!! They'd probably get serious German origin names and have the training for guarding jobs, but they are also the babiesTM. They get up the couch and lay on us while we listen to the radio. Slobber on my leg while I'm cooking. I love them, they are goobers. As for J.ohn, he's getting a Rad Horse with me and excitedly talking about how cool it would be to ride one in battle. Her name is Peach, and he truthfully had no idea how to ride her. That's fine though, I know how to ride, I can teach him while sitting behind him in the saddle. She loves him though and always noses him for attention. Puts her whole head on his shoulder and waits for pets. He's taught her to bite people on command please help me- 💫: Are either of you ticklish? If so, where? ThIS MAN DENIES IT! H.eisenburg never will admit it, but he's got a particularly ticklish spot on the back of his knees. Which ya' know, not a common spot. But when your partner is a flexible and stubborn bastard? No it's not safe. :) Well ghoul skin is a bit more rough and, not necessarily numb, but more so armored type of senses. So it's a faint tickle if anything. That said, the spot just below his chin? (Chefs kiss) Best spot to get the sensation in. 💋: Where are your favorite places to kiss your f/o? Where are their favorite places to kiss you? Well a safe place that I love to kiss pretty much anyone is the neck or temples. One for... less than wholesome reasons in comparison than the other. lol H.eisenburg likes to kiss Aqua's forehead and just at the corner of their lips. Something about how Aqua always hums when he kisses their forehead makes him smile all smitten to himself. H.ancock likes Rayne's lips period anyway you slice it. But! ....He really loves the dramatics of kissing up her arms. Morticia and Gomez style, man is devoted. Plus, Rayne always starts giggling when he does it which is a major bonus in his books.

*Summer Heat* The Phantom Part 2 Finale
JJ is driving to the point, where they are meeting up with John B.
He backs the jeep up so the boat can go in the water.
They unload all the food and get the boat ready to go.
"Where the hell is he?" Kie asks.
"He's running out of time you guys." Jo says.
"Give him a second. He'll be here." Pope assures them.
"He's coming alright." JJ comments.
They hear a siren and a sheriff's truck pull up.
"Oh shit!"
"We gotta get in the boat! Jo grab my hand!" JJ reaches out to grab Jo.
They all stop as John B gets out of the truck.
They all are at a loss for words.
"What in the world are you doing?"
"No freaking way!"
John B walks over to them.
"Shoupe let me take it for a spin." John B jokes.
"Yea I'm sure he did bro." Jo laughs as she pulls him into a tight hug.
He hugs her back tightly.
Kie comes up and hugs John B.
"You're nuts you know that?" Kie laughs.
"It wasn't easy bro, but I got the Phantom for you, and she runs like she was made yesterday."
JJ throws the keys to John B.
"Where's Sarah?" John B asks them.
"I thought she was with you." Jo tells him.
"We got separated in the swamp. She said she was gonna meet me here!" John B says panicking.
"We haven't seen her." Kie says.
"I'm not leaving without her." John B firmly tells them.
"John B look at me." JJ tells him.
"I know you feel bad for leaving, I wouldn't wanna leave Jo. But there is literally no time man. You got plenty of gas, and food. Once you get around that point, it's a straight shot across the sound to Dismal Swamp okay. Once you get there lay low, alright? Hang out for a couple of weeks, then go overland. Then go across the border to Brownsville. Do you get that?"
John B nods his head.
"Yea I got it."
"Alright, saddle 'em up, saltwater cowboy. Let's do this."
JJ jumps down off the boat as John B climbs up.
Jo grabs JJ's hand knowing they're both gonna need comfort.
"Hey."
John B gets their attention.
Jo has to quickly wipe the tears from her eyes.
"I'm sorry basically throwing us off a cliff with this whole treasure-hunting thing." he tells them getting emotional.
"We were bound to run off a cliff at some point right?" JJ jokes also getting emotional.
"Yea."
John B laughs with tears in his eyes.
"But at least we did it together though, pogue style."
JJ says as he wraps his arms around Pope and Jo.
Jo wraps her arm around Kie.
"I wouldn't wanna do this with anyone else. We're pogues for life." Jo says as she starts to cry.
"Get out of here now!" Kie says also with tears in her eyes.
"We'll see you in two months down in Mexico." Pope says.
They watch as John B starts the boat and takes off.
Jo has tears coming down her face.
She starts walking up the ramp so her friends don't see her cry.
JJ follows and grabs her arm to turn her around.
He pulls her into a hug.
She hugs him tightly.
"I love you J." She speaks softly into his neck.
He looks at her with a surprised look.
"I-I know I didn't say it before. I was scared that you would go away once I said it back. But after this, I just really needed you to hear it." She tells him.
He gives her a small smile.
"I love you too."
He grabs her face and pulls her to him and kisses her.
They break apart to see Pope and Kie also having a moment.
Before anything can be said, a bunch of cop cars shows up.
"Hands in the air now!"
They all put their hands up.
"You're too late Shoupe. He's gone." Jo says.
"Where did he go?" Shoupe asks standing in front of her.
She shrugs her shoulders.
"Not a clue. Didn't bother to ask."
The cops round them up and place them in the cars.
JJ grabs onto Jo's hand.
******************************
They make it to the tent where the cops have their base of operations.
They get led out of the cars and there are a bunch of press and people crowded around trying to ask questions.
When they get in the tent they are shoved down onto a bench.
"Keep an eye on these kids. I have a lot of questions for them." Brancher says.
Jo looks around and on the other side is Topper.
He is wearing John B's hoodie.
"What the hell?"
Jo stands up without anyone noticing and makes her way to Topper.
"What are you doing here?" she asks him.
"I- I helped Sarah and John B escape." he tells her.
"Why would you do that?" she asks him.
"I don't know. I wanted to make things right with Sarah. I-I felt like I owed John B for what happened at the Hawk's nest. I just- I don't know." he tells her.
She grabs his hand softly.
"I think that is the most honest you have ever been with me." she tells him.
"Don't be telling anybody." he says but with a small smile.
She makes a small noise.
"No wouldn't wanna ruin your rep." she jokes.
She looks awkward before she faces her stepbrother again.
"But thank you Top. Thank you for helping my friend when you didn't have to. It really means a lot to me." she tells him.
"You're welcome." he says back.
******************************
They sit and wait for answers.
Shoupe and a couple of other deputies walk back into the tent.
The wind has picked up and it is raining pretty hard.
They could hear the waves crash against the shoreline.
"Did you find them?" Pope asks.
Shoupe hesitates to answer.
"We lost them." he tells them.
"Like they got away?" Kie asks.
Shoupe sighs.
"We lost them. They're not anywhere in sight." he tries again.
"W-what do you mean you lost them? Like they're just gone?" Pope questions.
Jo's breathing starts getting labored.
"Are they dead Shoupe?" Jo asks as she feels tears in her eyes.
"They took an open boat into a tropical depression guys. I don't know if they're dead." Shoupe tells them.
"You drove them straight into the storm man!" JJ lashes out and lunges for Shoupe.
"JJ! Stop!"
Jo pulls him away and grabs his face.
"Look at me!" she tells him.
They both start crying as they cling to each other.
Jo looks up to see their parents.
Jo rushes to her dad.
"Daddy!" She clings to him.
"They didn't make it!" She cries.
She pulls away and pulls Kie into a hug who is sobbing.
The boys wrap their arms around them.
Buzz looks up and locks eyes with Ward.
They seem to be sharing a secret conversation between them.
Ward nods in Buzz's direction.
He watches as his daughter pulls JJ into a hug and holds him.
Jo looks over JJ's shoulder and catches the looking exchange between the two.
She narrows her eyes in suspicion.
What does her father know?

🧱, 🤷♀️, 🙏 for dai, minah and bran!
thanks my dear! // prompts I'd like to receive
[ 🧱 ] how would you describe your muses’ morality? what are their core values?
DAI — he's just an upright guy. save what you can, leave places better than you found them, defend those who need defending. he's a big believer in doing what's Right(TM) and helping those in need. his oath of the shield tenets are valor, discernment, resolve and character which pretty much sums it up.
MINAH — she's sorta *wiggly hand gesture* tbh. she's a rogue so obviously she's not an Upstanding Citizen, and she's also pretty selfish at the end of the day. it's easy to be open with little things, but with anything big or meaningful she's going to keep it close and be unwilling to share and unwilling to help if it requires her to stick her neck out too far. she's so used to living and surviving for herself, and unlearning that might take some work. but when you get past all of that she has a fairly decent sense of moral responsibility. mostly she just values Being Alive (for now)
BRAN — while bran does crime(TM) and says Fuck The Empire she's still got a heart of gold. very much the noble robber character. does she want to keep the cool shiny treasure? yeah but she'll also rescue someone from a bad situation at the cost of her own safety and stand for the defense of your city and adopt your band of ragtag adventurers when left saddled with them before someone slips away in the dead of night with only a letter left behind. she cares about people a whole lot. she values freedom above all, for herself and for anyone else who seeks it—freedom from station, tyranny, and also taxes. seriously fuck the empire
[ 🤷♀️ ] how does your muse approach strangers? how does this compare to how they interact with close friends or lovers?
DAI — if it's a situation where there's a clear goal or defined rules of engagement he's perfectly happy to step in and just say whatever needs saying. he's awkward yeah but he's pragmatic and a big fan of getting shit done. if it's small talk or making friends or something without a defined purpose or rules he's just an uncomfortable little dude. he's much better with people he's close to. he just doesn't do well with artifice and he hates lying and being lied to (and the high insight means he almost always knows when he's being lied to)
MINAH — with a smile, and often a cap out for a few coins after the show. she's pretty charming and personable and while she doesn't love strangers as a rule she's good with people and good at meeting them. sorta have to be as a performer. honestly it's not all that much different with how she acts with people she's close to—she tends to keep her most important cards close to the chest
BRAN — is great with strangers. she likes people! she likes stories and entertainment and especially loves being both of those things to others. she's gotta perform, babey! there's a very very small core group of people who get to see past the performance and know bran herself. not that the performance is artifice—she really is that big and bright and friendly—but she keeps the quieter sides hidden from everyone except, like. well honestly hakson. the party was starting to get close when the game ended I think, but not quite there yet—they were too busy with their own shit for Branwen to worry about sharing hers
[ 🙏 ] what does your muse need? this can be something material or something abstract.
DAI — a rez
MINAH — oh god. therapy probably. a whoooooooole lot of therapy.
BRAN — her fucking SHIP BACK and the endless horizon
#quickly realizing that my two default character archetypes are 'forthright but quiet good boy' and 'becoming the mask'#thanks sweets#daichi#minah#branwen#memery

Lowe Country | May 11, 2007 | Webisode/Special
Yes! I’m writing-up Lowe Country! Why?
In addition to the five airing programs that were part of “The Night of 1000 Pilots” there was also this. Lowe Country is a fairly simple idea: A proposed docuseries about various days in the life of Space Ghost voice-actor George Lowe. Just follow George around with cameras and let him be him. We see him have some sort of physical training session, get annoyed in traffic, record some lines as Space Ghost for, I’m guessing, the Volume Two DVD (he states the date is 5/12/04). I genuinely wonder what these recordings are actually used for. Was there a music replacement that required replacement dialogue recordings? Was it actually for a promo or something that I missed? I wonder!
One memorable moment is when George visits a radio station and does his “Wilbur the Love Goat” routine with a couple of receptionists. It’s basically sexual harassment, but they take it in stride and I hope and pray that George doesn’t get #metoo’d. He should maybe make it up to them in some small way if he hasn’t already. Maybe he should give them a nice present? Perhaps a real goat named “Wilbur the Love Goat”? Hahaha, I am making myself laugh so hard right now. You sexually harass women for years and then you make it up to them by bringing them an animal that they have to take care of and somehow share custody of. How can I get this idea to George? The two women call George retarded, which caused me to theorize that if we just let women say the r-slur (the one from before that I didn’t censor; not sure why I did just now) and no one else then that would fix all this stuff.
My friend from 7th grade has “we’re all out for a peanut” as his twitter username, and it’s from this! COOL!
This pilot was unique in that it only ever aired in it’s unedited form as a web-only exclusive. Later it was recreated using a CGI Space Ghost in place of George; I don’t remember if the other people in the video were also CGI’d or not. I don’t think they were? They titled it “Earth Ghost” and it aired later as part of either an April Fools or Daylight Savings stunt. I’m sorry I never go through the trouble of looking up which one it is when I say that. They are basically the same to me.
I do like this, and would hella support an actual series of this. But I don’t feel like I need too many more of these. George Lowe is a treasure and he should just get a salary to be himself weather cameras are rolling or not. You gotta admit I’m right about this.
Okay! Since we’re here, we might as well rank not just the “Night of 1000″ pilots, but also every other pilot Adult Swim ever produced up to this point. I’m going to include Lucy, The Daughter of the Devil, even though it’s eventually going to be a series. Also let’s throw Anime Talk Show in there, why not? Let me know if I forgot something. Please! From worst to best:
The Groovenians
The Finkel Files
The Lewis Lectures
That Crook'd 'Sipp
Captain Sturdy: The Originals
Penguins Behind Bars
Lucy, The Daughter of the Devil
Anime Talk Show
Saddle Rash
The Drinky Crow Show
Spacecataz
Fat Guy Stuck in Internet
Lowe Country
Let's Fish
Welcome to Eltingville

Image IDs: Series of tweets from Viviane Schwarz (@/ vivSchwarz) reading: Zoom sucks, we started having editorial meetings in Red Dead Redemption instead. It's nice to sit at the campfire and discuss projects, with the wolves howling out in the night
Sometimes the game forgets that the camp exists and suddenly your just in the woods with the wolves, but that's kind of invigorating.
The main technical hitches we've had is that sometimes the meeting table doesn't exist for everyone, and sitting on the ground is the same button as attempting to strangle the nearest person. Still beats zoom
"I just ordered coffee but it didn't get delivered" "It probably went to the post office, try rejoining the party" "Ah that worked, and oh that also healed by horse" "Very good. - So do we know the page count..." "Was that gunshots?" "Don't worry, we got the white flag up."
"Can you parley these people, they keep hogtying me" "Where did you spawn?" "Am I not on the map?" "You're miles away... Let me kick you out from to the posse and invite you again"
Don't edit the shared Google doc or switch to cinematic camera while riding a horse at speed.
Since people are asking: you can't have meetings in Red Dead Redemption two until you've done the intro quests in online mode, which takes up to an hour depending on whether the people you get paired up with for staff training decide to sabotage your horse wrangling
Friend invite will be grayed out until you've dressed up, gone to raid the bandits, got the treasure map, found the treasure, picked up a job to steal horses, brought the house back and decide what color the saddle is. Then you can form a posse with your editorial team.
A perk of this is that when you agree that the meeting is over you can all jump on your horses and do crime or justice, which is a lot less awkward then everyone smiling at the camera while they're trying to sign off.
Plus, if you do well in this post meeting, next time you might get nice mismatched chairs by the campfire and don't have to sit on the ground.
Also the landscape is amazing so you can walk and talk, and if some other posse attacks they only get five minutes to fight you, which is in effect a tea break except you don't have to pretend to make tea, or agree when it happens.
Anyway, the book is looking good. /End IDs]

[Review] Wario Land: The Shake Dimension (Wii)
Wario Land 4 2, for better and worse.
Wario's wilderness years continue with this, released the year after Master of Disguise. Many Wario Land games come in pairs it seems, where a second entry refines the concept of a previous change-up. Wario Land 1 had its VBWL, WL2 had its 3, and now Wario Land 4 has Shake It, the first non-shovelware title released by Good-Feel. They went on to make the decent Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi's Woolly World.
I wasn't really a fan of Wario Land 4, so was iffy on the prospect of following it up. The levels here are usually a more linear series of rooms which works better in the format (a bit puzzley followed by a frantic timed run back to the level entrance), but they have more of a problem with missable pickups. TSD does bring back unique treasures, and even has funny descriptions for them like MoD, but there are too many times when you have one chance to get something, and if you fail you have to replay the whole level again (or as I call it, Kirby level design).
Forced repetition is a big factor here. Each level has optional challenges just for bragging rights, as well as secret maps to new levels which are only hinted at after you've beaten the game. Also, the role of money in this game is mainly to pay for maps to new worlds, which in the latter half of the game pretty much require grinding for cash unless you're playing flawlessly and finding all the extra dosh.
Let me take a step back though. This is a stereotypical early-mid Wii game and the central gimmick is in the title. Played with a Wiimote on its side (one of the least comfortable control methods ever devised), Wario and the player alike do a lot of shaking. Shake to ground pound, shake to escape some traps, shake to... shake. Coins will fly out of money bags, and enemies can be shaken for health or to remove their armour, for example. As a conceit this is... fine, but other uses of motion control such as tilting to aim your throws, or the obligatory vehicle sections (also seen in the Kirby and Yoshi games) are more egregious. Apart from this, the controls feel pretty good (this is the developer's mission statement, after all). Butt-stomps do require a finicky downwards input in the air on the lacklustre Wiimote D-pad, but the limitations of the chosen controller mean there's no unnecessary dash button.
Let's take another step back, because anyone's first impression of the game should be to be wowed by the graphics. Lovingly hand-drawn sprites cavort over painted backgrounds to give the impression of a playable cartoon, like WayForward's latter Shantae games or A Boy and His Blob. The 480p resolution blown up on a modern TV doesn't do it any favours but this is still a gorgeous game, and I wish we had more like this. Which makes the baffling choice to lock gameplay into a 4:3 resolution all the more galling. By mid-2008 not supporting widescreen seems anachronistic and it would especially help on a platformer where you routinely get shot into high-speed running sequences. Instead there's huge borders on the sides showing how many missions you're failing. Yuck!
One more step back now to examine the game's story, such as it is, because it opens with a fully-animated cutscene (with subtitled dialogue and no voices whatsoever). The setting is once again a pocket dimension for no reason, with a whole new cast of baddies, a charisma-free antagonist, and a damsel in distress who exists only for one gag in the ending. It's everything I dislike about Wario Land plots. Bringing back Captain Syrup, Wario's rakish two-time pirate nemesis, is a great idea, only she's relegated to shopkeeper with two lines of dialogue outside of the intro and ending. What a waste! And coming off the banter-filled Master of Disguise, saddling Wario with a silent protagonist role was immensely disappointing when the first-time prospect of verbal sparring with Syrup was right there on the table. Charles Martinet has his vocal quips but even the manual is all but stripped of Wario-style snide asides.
A final step back for the big picture (although may I quickly mention the slow, frustrating boss fights and the further reduced role of status conditions like "on fire" or "frozen" to the point that they're barely there?). I did wonder if the Wario Land series was losing its way with WL4, and sadly it seems so. For me the series peaked with 3, but there's more to the character and his series. Each game has its shining lights and its dull spots, but the identity of the series has morphed over time. It's taken ideas from Mario, Metroid, Kirby, and made them its own. But playing this I felt how Good-Feel had segued from this to Epic Yarn and Woolly World, and in doing so perhaps demonstrated the irrelevance of Wario platformers under Nintendo's overcrowded umbrella. Without a dedicated development team (RIP R&D1), with other puzzle-platformers heavy on environmental interaction jostling for position, and with a successful minigame-based subseries to fall back on, Wario Land just doesn't seem to have a place anymore. The Shake Dimension is now 15 years old and there hasn't been another non-Ware game since. Well, it had a good run. Cheers, big guy.

48 chapter books your child will devour
If you want to raise a lifelong reader, your child needs to see that reading can be fun. If it isn't fun? Your child won't choose to read.
Unfortunately, research shows that the percentage of 6- to 8-year-olds who read for fun several times a week drops by 9 percent by the time they're 9 to 11 years old. Then kids reading for fun drops another 11 percent among 12- to 14-year-olds.
Overall, the percentage of kids who read for fun at ages 6-8 decreases a total of 24 percent by the time those kids turn 15.
Yikes.
What's scaring kids away from reading?
As with any trend like this, lots of factors are at play. But after talking to my own children and lots of other parents about this phenomenon, it seems that one big factor is which books kids are encouraged – or even forced – to read.
Because in our quest to get our kids to love reading, here's something important we can sometimes lose sight of: Every person is different.
For example, some people like cake, some people like pie, and some people like to keep a case of Girl Scout cookies in their freezer to sustain them year-round. (Guilty!)
And yet, this is what happens...
So as parents, we might nag kids to read "must-read" books – the same ol' chapter books that were given to us as kids. And often, teachers assign required reading of those "better" books to a whole classroom – the same books those teachers had to read when they were in school.
But here's the problem.
Your child might have a hard time getting into the dated language of Treasure Island. They might be extremely troubled by The Secret Garden when Mary makes racist comments. They might be scared by the graphic violence in Island of the Blue Dolphins. Even some adults feel that way when reading those classics.
That doesn't automatically mean your child is a "reluctant" reader or that they won't ever appreciate the "classics." It just means they're growing up in the 21st century, and you might need to read those books together so you can talk through the issues.
But right around the time kids are finally reading on their own, not only do we stop reading aloud to them for fun, but we also saddle them with books they didn't choose that may be upsetting, frustrating, or just plain boring to them.
No wonder more and more kids aren't reading for fun.
How to put the fun back in reading.
To make reading fun for kids, I believe we need to stop force-feeding them specific books because we know "best" and instead let each child choose the book that looks the most fun to them.
And if they choose to read a graphic novel? Or a series chapter book? Or a comic? Who. Cares. They're reading! You won!
Kids who see reading as a chore won't become lifelong readers. Our job as parents and teachers is to protect that little flame of joy that reading creates – not smother it with "must reads" or "classics" or "better" books – or by making kids feel like the book they chose isn't "good enough."
Inside that post, I've included a list of awesome chapter books that will make your child love reading. Books that will make your child feel known, heard, and understood. Pick up a few of these great books, and see what your kid gravitates to. There are no wrong answers. They'll like what they like!
I've been curating this list of kids' chapter books for fourteen years and counting.
Out of all the hundreds of children's novels that my three oldest kids have read (and that I've read aloud), these are the ones we've purchased to keep in our home. These are the ones we've read multiple times. These are the ones we gift to their friends for birthdays and "just because" gifts.
But even so...
Your child may not love everything on this list, and that's okay. Your child has their own unique tastes and preferences, and that's as it should be. Your job is simply to provide your child with a wide variety of books and let them choose what looks good.
Enjoy! Kelly
