okay imagine “the princess bride” except it’s iskender and temir....

“That day, Iskender was amazed to discover that when Temir was saying ‘....’ what he meant was ‘I love you.’“

Temir rolls down a hill in perfect silence. Iskender realizes, “Oh my sweet Chasind!” and flings himself after.

It’s perfect.

things temir would do: randomly, without having ever spoken aloud of his affection for someone before, just say something simple but entirely Extra like “You are my world” in this really direct sort of way, nod once as though he’s just taken care of some important task or other, and carry on with his day

temir: you want me to flex and make all the buttons pop off of my shirt? iskender: yes. you can do that? temir: the challenge is to keep the buttons on.

anyway for all that they bicker and tease and insult one another, temir and iskender actually care very deeply about each other, and have an abiding trust built over a long span of time fighting at each other’s backs. ride or die, baby. they’re the “ok i can insult him but if you dare to you’re dead” couple.
