When the news breaks that Hiruzen is dead, Yoshino books it to find Mito and finds her in the Hokage's office with Shikaku trying to figure out what to do about the state of the village.

They both stare as she rushes through the door and gasps "Adoption paperwork!"

"Oh I got that signed weeks ago," Mito admitted and Yoshino nearly screeched. "I had a pile of paperwork that needed his signature, he didn't think to question it."

"Conniving," Shikaku mused fondly as his wife starts jumping up and down in delight.

"You are my favorite of my husband’s children!" She declared, hugging her tight as a startled laugh burst out of her.

Yoshino: when you die, im going to adopt Naruto

Hiruzen: you might be waiting awhile

Yoshino: ...you sure about that?

I am really stupid. I just realized the fact that Junpei didn't want his mom to smoke around him, not only for obvious health reasons and because he cared for her, but because of his trauma. His scars. I'm-

omg not at all I don’t mind go for it !!! And omg that’s PERFECT naruto proudly showing off his new clothes and yoshino despairs and oops? they kinda adopted a new kid? but he fits in well enough with his awful choices in fashion

shikaku is just “well i guess youre family now” and naruto cries because he always wanted a family but he never thought he would get one because of how the villagers treated him and there is hugging

the true sign of being a Nara is awful fashion choices. its why they wear their uniforms so much because if left alone in a store they will gather the most ugly things and wear them proudly

naruto fits in and now im thinking of him and shikamaru scheming up pranks together and it is wonderful i love it
