The walking ghost absolutely does not know what to do at first. He knows you are sad, he can feel that much and understands your demeanor. He tries his best although it is admittedly bad. Moving you to your room using teleportation, getting you set up in bed, stacking any and all plushies he can find around you because one time Neon said plushies make people feel better. The warmth is overwhelming (my body burns almost as if they're cremating it)

It's very hot in the VALORANT HQ, specially in summer. See, this can be a problem to agents who are used to the cold, like Sova or Breach, but that's why there's a rule that says that you can indeed go around shirtless and with short pants.

No agent is allowed to have their personal AC, they only have one on their common room. For bedrooms they use fans, but an AC has never been given to anyone, not even Brimstone.

Now here comes the problem. Phoenix's body tends to be hot, like burning hot, but in summer it gets worse. Between his own body heat and the outside heat he literally feels like dying, and that makes even Viper have some sympathy for the guy.

Brimstone's already recieved complains from Phoenix, Jett and Viper herself about this. "Let that kid have a goddamn AC," she said, "I don't want to find him sleeping in the fridge again, I nearly had a heart attack that time."

They also have rules for the common room's AC. One of the rule used to be that there had to be more than three agents in the room to use it, but it was later modified to that plus not being usable in the night, because Phoenix managed to convince Jett and Sova to go sleep there so he could get colder. The other rule is that the AC must be 77°F (25°C) at minimum, and 82.4°F (28°C) at maximum.

Today is different, as it is around 122°F (50°C) outside and everyone is worried about their fire boy, mostly because he looks both tired and about to melt from the heat.

"You really need to get something cold, mate, not even the common room AC is helping." Skye says, handing him a handful of ice and cringing when it almost immediately melts in his hand.

Phoenix has only the shortest pants known to man on, and he's still sweating even under the AC. Skye, who's also wearing short pants but has a sports bra on, is trying to help him get a bit colder, but everything she's tried hasn't worked.

"What's going on?" Killjoy asks when she gets in the room, looking at the two of them almost as if they were crazy.

"I'm trying to help Phoenix cool down! I've tried everything!!" The other woman says with desperation in her voice, "I've tried handing him ice, it melts. I've tried feeding him ice, it doesn't melt but doesn't work either. I've tried sticking cold stuff in his body, doesn't work. We've tried Harbor's waves, they don't work either. He's under the AC. We're considering removing everything from the fridge and getting him in there again."

"Why can't you put the AC colder?" Killjoy asks, then looks at the AC controller, "Oh wait, it's at the minimum, right?" She asks, to which Phoenix can only nod.

"That rule is stupid." Reyna says as she steps in the room, "You're going to die if we keep it like this, necesitamos hablar con Brimstone!" She exclaims, looking at Phoenix with full pity in her eyes.

"I'll talk with him," Sage says, already heading to Brimstone's office, "he is in no condition of doing anything, not even existing at this point." Before she gets out the room, she hears Skye scream and quickly turns around. Phoenix has passed out from the heat.

"I've already told you, we can't do that." Brimstone states, looking at the three women before him, "If we give it to him, the rest are going to ask for one."

"It's not like they're little kids, Brim," Reyna says, looking at him at the eyes almost as if he was her pray, "I'm pretty sure they'll understand."

"We can't have him do anything in this condition, do you understand how dangerous that is for a human being?" Sage asks, then continues before giving the man time to answer, "It's so critical, I don't doubt he could die because of it at this point."

"Okay, okay, fine," Brimstone says, standing up, "I'll talk with-"

"No, Brimstone, you'll get him the fucking AC because he can't even speak." Viper says, looking at him with dangerous eyes, "Then after that maybe you can speak with him. A body temperature that melts ice cubes as soon as they get close - not even in conact - is more dangerous than you think."

"Alright, then," He says, "but with one condition. You three need to help me choose which AC to take." They all nod and start searching online.

Sova is the first one to notice the giant box on the door of the HQ, left there by the delivery man, probably. He looks at it before calling Brimstone and confirming that it isn't a bomb, then he takes it inside. Sage tells him what it is, and Sova takes it to Phoenix's room, which is currently empty.

After calling Cypher and having Brimstone supervising they both assemble the AC in an hour and a half, then put it in 44.6°F (7°C) and staying in the room until Cypher can't handle the cold. Then they call Phoenix.

He looks like absolute shit, there's no other way to put it. He's sweating, has dark eyebags from not sleeping because of the heat, his hair isn't brushed, and he's leaving burnt marks wherever he steps. Yoru is with him, he was told of this before so he could distract him. Yoru also looks miserable, his hair down and unable to stay up, also has eyebags.

Around a minute after Phoenix steps into the room his eyes widen, looking around for a moment. "Are you feeling this or am I dying?!" He asks, turning to see Yoru, "Dude, it's so cold I might have to put a shirt on!" He jokingly says, smiling wide and looking excited. "Hold on what's happening? Why is it so cold here?"

Yoru smiles at his confusion, then points at the AC set up on a wall. "Brimstone bought this for you, you would've died otherwise." He says, looking at their boss. Phoenix looks at him and smiles widely. Then he stops.

"Wait. You're saying I have my own AC?! For my room?! That I can put in any temperature?!" He asks and Brimstone nods "Ohmygodohmygod finally!!" He exclaims, practically jumping up and down. "Thank you so much, Brimstone!" He smiles even wider (somehow).

"You shouldn't thank me, I only bought it. You should thank Viper, Reyna, Sage, Sova and Cypher instead." He says, smiling. Phoenix doesn't get it but nods anyways, walking around his room.

After two more minutes Brimstone gets out of the room, leaving the other two alone.

"Dude we can finally kiss!" Phoenix says before jumping on his boyfriend and giving him a kiss. They stay hugging for some minutes before Phoenix breaks the hug. "Okay I've gotta tell this to everyone they're going to be sooooo jealous" He says as he brings out his phone.

Yoru smiles, "You're breaking our romantic moment to brag about this? Wow, what a boyfriend." Then he starts laughing when he sees Phoenix's defeated face.

synopsis: cypher’s been avoiding you and you girl talk it out with kj and raze

since you join the protocol, you’ve been hanging out with cypher. he was a very helpful and welcoming person to you. it seemed like he liked talking to you a lot since he was very charismatic. though, thats probably just how he is. overtime, you slowly developed a liking for him. cypher always helped you out whenever you needed it, he even went out of his way to do stuff for you. however, it always felt like there was a barrier between you and him. he practically knew everything about you. he is a spy and knows everything about everyone. but, you knew barely anything about him. you knew the things that casual friends would know, and that was about it. you tried to pry and get him to open up, but it felt like everytime you tried, he started to push you away. overtime, the things he used to do for you became rare occurrences.

8:00 am, location: valorant hq

it was early in the morning, barely anyone was awake at this time of day. you found kj, raze, jett, phoenix, and cypher in the kitchen. kj and raze were sitting on the stools at the counter and phoenix and cypher were playing a game of chess together. it appeared that phoenix was losing big time. kj spotted you coming from the hallway.

“ah, i have to work on my cameras, we can rematch next time phoenix.” he tilted his hat to phoenix. “i’ll beat you next time, just you wait!” he said confidently. he excused himself out and walked to his room. phoenix left the other direction, seemingly confident that he will defeat cypher next time. now that cypher was gone, it felt safe to talk about the elephant in the room.

“hey… are you and cypher doing okay?” kj asked you. you looked up at her and sighed. “honestly, i don’t know.” you say in defeat. you put your elbow on the counter and lean your head against your hand. “did something happen?” raze asked. “well, it’s kind of complicated. he just stopped talking to me overtime. when i tried to go and talk to him one on one, he just excuses himself quickly. i don’t know if i did something wrong to make him hate me.” you tell them. they both look upset for you. they can tell that you are visibly upset by cypher’s avoidance. “i’m sure you didn’t do anything wrong! cypher’s just a very secretive type of guy.” kj reassured. “if anything, i’m sure he’s afraid to let you get closer to him.” kj said. raze nodded in agreement. “yeah, nobody knows anything about that dude. he’s super secretive. but, just because he doesn’t tell you everything, doesn’t mean that he doesnt like you! cyphers just a private kinda guy.” raze adds. “he wouldn’t hate you for no reason, i’m sure of it.” kj said.

after what kj and raze told you, you felt a bit better about the whole thing. you reconsider the reasons why cypher suddenly started to avoid you. however, you were still pretty upset with him for avoiding you. you got up from your seat and fixed yourself. “i’m gonna head back to my room, i’ll see you guys later.” you wave at them goodbye. they wave you goodbye in pity and you walked towards the hall. you made your way back to your room and plopped on your bed. you were in defeat and didn’t want to think about cypher any more. you let yourself fall asleep once more.

You quickly turned into another hallway a good distance from where you had killed Skye. You took the time to reload your gun and check for injuries, only one that you could find, a bullet graze from a phantom. “Shit! At least it wasn't as bad as last time.” 

You thought about how you were going to get out of this situation you were in. you had no more tricks up your sleeve, you were solely relying on Yoru to do something. You were starting to get worried, what the hell was he doing. Exploring the city? You watch says he was still alive and good. So what truly was taking forever. Well if he wont do anything with you alive you’ll do it yourself. You get ready to round the corner and start firing. Your foot shifted and you went to lean. 

“I’ll handle this!” 

You shifted back into the position you were before, back against the wall. You sigh, “Took you long enough!”  you thought. The sound of gunfire was heard, along with Yoru calling out that one was down. You took this as your time to make your way back to spike to defuse.

You peek around a corner, the cost looks clear so you make your way to spike. You set your gun down next to it and pull out the diffuser and start defusing. You're halfway to defusing the spike, when you hear a pistol being cocked and the end of the barrel being placed on the back of your head. “Shit! Not now of all times.”  

“How about you place that on the ground and I'll think about letting you keep your head.” The mirror Killjoy says. You place the diffuser on the ground next to you. 

“Let's not get too hasty.” you say with your hands up. You started down at the spike, its beeping was getting faster and it was making a lot more noise. You saw something blue out of the corner of your eye. You have to buy a little more time. 

“Hey , I know you have a whole reason for doing this but, I really don’t want to die directly in front of the bomb.” you say

“Oh really, well mirror you don't have a problem with it.” she says, you hear a light sarcasm in her voice. 

“Oh really, well if you can’t tell we’re actually quite different.” you say pushing your head back farther back onto the barrel of the pistol. You hear her hum as a response. You heard the little swirl noises from Yoru when he's in the dimensional drift. You slowly start reaching for the pistol strapped to your thigh.  You grab towards it as if you were going to pull it out. 

“Surprise” Yoru says as he exits the dimensional drift. You swiftly turn around and grab the pistol out of Killjoys hands before her body falls to the ground. 

The spikes beeping was getting alarmingly faster and the noises coming from it were loud too. You picked up the diffuser and went back to defusing the bomb. 

“Shit!” you said. The spikes beeping was getting faster and faster.

“Hurry up, all this will be for nothing if you get us killed.” Yoru stays behind you. 

“Shut the fuck up.” you say. You could feel Yoru getting antsy behind you while you were defusing. 

“I swear, if I die-” he was cut off by the successful defusal noise. You sighed.

You pressed a few buttons on your watch before you heard the Brimstones voice on the other end of your comms. 

“You two all set?” Brimstone asked. You looked over at Yoru.

“Yeah we're all set. We’ll be at the rendezvous point.” you said, you picked up the bag with the spike in it and handed it to Yoru. “Carry this for me, will you?” You say putting the bag in his hands and walking away. 

“Do it yourself, I’ve done everything else here.” he says before placing it on the ground and looking up at you, he scans your body for any extreme injuries, before his eyes land on the one on your dominant arm. 

“Men should always do the heavy lifting, what else are men for?” you said with a sly ass smirk on your face.

He scoffs and rolls his eyes. 

“Fine, I'll continue to do everything by myself.” he says while picking up the bag and catching up with you.

You sit in the infirmary as Sage wrapped the injury on your arm. 

“So, I heard Yoru waited until last second to do anything.” she asked.

“Yeah, but if he waited any longer I would be dead.” 

“Well, thank god he saved you. He hasn't shut up about how well you did on the mission before with him.” 

“What!” you were stumped. Yoru was speaking highly of you. Your relationship has always been one of how better than the other. That and he very clearly annoyed the absolute shit out of you, with his whole “I’ll save the situation like always.” thinking. 

Sage finished wrapping your arm and smiled. 

“Don’t say anything to him. It might actually hurt his ego.” she says. 

She turned to continue doing more things in the infirmary leaving you to do whatever you want. So you leave the infirmary, off to find the man at question Yoru himself. 

You search the hallways for a good 30 minutes before you hear a loud banter between Yoru and Jett, coming from the shooting range

“Yoru, It took you practically 30 minutes to even do anything. The other team members, which let me remind you, are here to help you, were gone. God knows what would happen if you didn’t help me in time.” you say waving your hands around to help get your point across more. 

“Yeah, well look, you're still alive and kicking. I can’t do everything for you.” 

“I’m not saying, -” You cut yourself off out of frustration.

“I can handle things myself. No need for me to rely on a man.”
