what? this AU DOES have a plotline and I think it's time to share it. It's a bit messy (as all of my info dumps lmao) yet you can get an idea!

Cast and Lore

The Emperor (played by Saburo Arasaka)

The Evil Guy. Had been ruling the galaxy with terror and fear for ages until the day his flagman ship Michiko The Discipline was crushed into the black hole. The survivors, mostly soldiers and some officers were punished accordingly for letting the Emperor die.

Widely known as a wise man and great strategist, left a lot of relics and holocrons after his death.

The Heir (played by Yorinobu Arasaka)

The son and apprentice of the Emperor, he took his father’s place and kept it for years despite not being the strongest guy among the Sith elites. He follows the Dark Side ways, and perfectly wields his anger and hatred, yet he tries to reform the Empire, slowly, because the elites could rebel to keep the status quo.

Has an apprentice, a young zabrak named Kou, to whom he pays much less attention than to the Empire problem, sure that her fear of him is unbreakable.

The Smuggler (played by Goro Takemura)

Ex an imperial navy officer, and a witness to the Emperor's death. Managed to escape imperial justice with a help of a group of force-blind rebels. Fought on their side for a couple of years but they had more losses than wins, so, tired of pointless fights and losing friends, Goro left the Empire’s space to become a smuggler.

Bitter and disappointed, he appears to care only about money, but deep inside his chest the old secret — the truth that the Emperor was killed by his own son — still burns, asking for vengeance.

Lord Kou (sith on her way to become Darth, played by Kou Okada)

Kou started her way as a Jedi padawan; since she was a youngling she had severe problems with discipline but was strong with the Force and loyal as a dog, and her master truly believed she would make a great Jedi knight one day. 

Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to happen: during the mission on Nar Shaddaa she followed her temptation and left the safe house. Kou got herself into trouble, her master came to save her but opened his presence in the Force to a powerful sith. Kou ended up whitnessing her master being killed, and it was her fault, at least that's what she was told by his murderer. The sith noticed her potential and took her as an apprentice. It took Kou some time to realize how “lucky” she was — her new master turned out to be the Heir, the ruler of the Empire.

Her hatred towards the Heir was strong, but her loyalty never belonged to him, so she was looking for ways to kill him and break free. She managed to break into a secret room inside his chambers and steal some powerful relic, which connected her to a Force ghost.

So Kou found an unlikely ally: another victim of the Heir, not only killed by him but attached to the relic, unable to dissolve into the Force. The ghost was eager to take revenge and promised Kou to teach her the ritual that would weaken the Heir’s connection to the Force so she would strike him easily.

The Heir was paying little attention to his apprentice business so she managed to gather all the necessities for the ritual and attacked her master. The Force ghost didn’t lie: the ritual weakened the Heir and Kou had her win over him. But what the ghost didn’t say was that this ritual would also open a way for him to possess the Heir’s body.

The moment it happened Kou knew that she committed an act of irreversible evil. She felt the presence again, the one she was used to since she was a kid and the one that disappeared the day the Emperor died. 

Scared of what she’s done she fled away to hide and heal and to think what to do next. She wanted to break free but instead, she returned the biggest slave owner back to the world. And this spot in her mind that felt empty after the force ghost took a new body… she felt it all the time, her long leash, the force connection that wasn’t broken; she knew her new master could pull it any moment.

But to strike the evil she must have found his secrets and weak points, so she had to come to Korriban. She needed a ride, and she got it: the smuggler took her to Korriban, but surprisingly decided to stay and help her strike The Heir once more. Kou was ready to use her new asset, so she kept the truth of the Emperor's return away from the smuggler's ears. However, during the Emperor’s relics hunt the hidden truth was discovered, and the fragile bond that was growing between the Sith and the smuggler, got broken. 

They parted their ways, but the Force had its plans for them, and after time they met again: her, with a lead for the most precious Emperor’s holocron, broken mind and some dull pain inside her soul she didn’t know how to name, and him, cooled down, reminded by his old rebel friends of who was truly responsible for the Empire injustice to force blinds citizens, and this surprisingly strong joy of seeing her again.

Partners once more, they hunted and reclaimed Saburo’s holocron, the only thing left was to study it and find a way to strike the old evil… and not lose themselves.

alias: V birth name: Verona X (gave up her surname when she left home and no longer remembers it) date of birth: september 13, 2050 affiliations: none the lore: feared merc assassin V doesn't have enemies; she has people she wants dead, and then they die. [tbc] the truth: the child of two neglectful night city junkies, verona was on her own from the moment she was born. leaving home at eleven and forced to become a pickpocket to survive, she was hardened early to the cruelty of corps and capitalism. for over ten years, V lived on the streets, before realizing that the city was going to swallow her if she didn't set her sights a little higher. so against her better judgement, she took a revenge job, robbing a maelstrom new recruit named rowen bane. she was caught, but rather than ratting her out, rowen was impressed and took a liking to her. they began a volatile and opportunistic relationship; he passed her name on to his superiors, and verona was contracted out for covert jobs when they needed her. but eventually maelstrom's leader, brick, contacted the thief and demanded she join the gang under threat of violence. in response, verona threatened to release maelstrom secrets; this was the wrong move, and brick made an attempt on her life. deciding NC was too dangerous for her to stay, verona broke for atlanta. altanta was more of the same, and didn't feel like home the way night city did. so verona returned, thinking two years was enough time for maelstrom to have forgotten about her. even so, she took on the alias "V" as a means of protection. while doing a botched thievery gig, V met ex-valentino jackie welles and became his best friend, part of his family, even. they began doing small-time merc jobs, trying to make a name for themselves, before being contacted by one dexter deshawn, a fixer running from a past of his own. the arasaka heist dex planned was a bust; V not only lost her best friend, but gained a brain-overwriting engram – who also happened to be the rockerboy that blew arasaka tower to the ground, none other than johnny silverhand. though their start was rocky, v and johnny quickly came to an understanding, finding closeness and compassion for each other as their personalities melded. eventually, they admitted they'd both die for each other, and that their unique bond was closer to love than either of them had felt before. V fought tooth and nail to save them both, forming alliances along the way that proved both her talent and tact. she went on to find a solution in arasaka's mikoshi, but while moving through the tower discovered johnny's body, intact and perfectly preserved. she eliminated yorinobu arasaka, made a deal with his sister, hanako, and won freedom for both herself and johnny. V is retired now, passing jobs on to her apprentice and adopted little brother, osiris, and dodging calls to take over the afterlife from rogue. you can find her living with johnny and their klepped dalmatian, sam, in a bungalow above the flooded remains of laguna bend.

01. First Meeting - Vanesa x Yorinobu

Vanesa Welles never counted parties as jobs, but it was very much what paid her bills. Setting up fights and working extra shifts at el coyote cojo were just extra eddies in her pocket - but parties were where it was at. She played every angle perfectly, from stuffing her bra and slicking her hair for the corpos - to rocking up in Pacifica with a monster sized keg.

People paid her to show up and look pretty, but that wasn’t the only thing - for Vanesa’s uncanny skill in blending in despite her unusual appearance, she was good at moving things around in the crowd. So a benefactor would give her their invitation along with a message or package, and she’d show up to do her thing.

This time she was using some borrowed eyes to headhunt - albeit without actually killing anyone. The client just needed to know if certain people were there - and were counting on her recording for them via her borrowed eyes. Thankfully, she didn’t need to try too hard for this one - as she pushed through the front door into the nightclub it felt more home to her then ... well, home.

“Nes!” A friend grabbed hold of her as soon as she entered, and the nearly middle-aged woman almost jumped out of her skin.

“Opal! Jesus choom, you nearly made me sock you. It’s good to see you though.” Vanesa wore a natural smile, the young woman hugged her close. “You here for work, or for fun?” stepping back, Vanesa could see that her friend was sporting some new hardware - fashion over function unlike herself. When she nodded, opal groaned but took hold of her arm anyway, already dragging the tall woman towards the bar.

“I should’ve guessed. Judging by the new eyes. You’re too much of a back-alley customized gal to be wearing the latest Kiroshi’s.” Nes chuckled at her friend’s expert assessment of her. “Better than being a fashion fiend like you ope.” the younger woman gently nudged her friend in the ribs before waving down the bartender.

After buying her a shot, and then a glass of Nesa’s usual, opal left to go back to the dance floor and leave her to her job. Still, Vanesa smiled down at her glass before taking the first sip of her favorite cocktail - a classic Blood Razer , only without the chicken bone. It hit the back of her throat almost right away, and Vanesa took a moment to pull her display up.

The list was simple but without photos, which was fine for the professional party-goer as she at least had descriptions to go by. She was all ready to head into the fray when something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye. He was well dressed for the club environment, a traditional Japanese inspired shirt that seemed to shimmer under the neons, and tight black pants that fit him well. He looked to be about her age, but well... in night city it was hard to really know.

When she locked eyes with him, the man smiled and turned back to the drink he was holding, and though the moment lasted very shortly, Vanesa knew she’d see more of him that night. Really, she was down to the last person on her list when she saw him again. The description was nearly identical to the man she’d seen earlier but the name - Vanesa nearly thought she’d experienced a glitch when she saw the name. “Yorinobu Arasaka” it read on the message. Damn. She’d caught him looking at her all night and never once did she think that the mysterious man was well... heir apparent to the largest megacorp in the world.

Vanesa leaned against the balcony railing outside, fumbling with her cigarette lighter when he appeared on her right side.

“Can I be a gentleman and offer you a light?” His voice had a slight gravel in it, but it otherwise hit her in all the right places. Made her sick. Before she found out who he was? Sure. She’d have cllimbed all over him without a second thought, but now he felt... odd. Like he was there to watch the rats race around him and think it funny. Either way, Vanesa nodded to his request and allowed him to light her cigarette and his own, leaning against the railing a comfortable distance away from her. She’d have remained silent if it weren’t for - right. the job.

“I’ve noticed you noticing me all night.” She slid a smile on, turning her head to look at Yorinobu who did not know she knew his name. He chuckled, and she swore she saw a hint of red on his cheeks. “So it was that obvious, huh?” She hummed in response, watching the lights of the city in front of and below her “I got new Kiroshis installed the other day. It caught you looking at me.” Another chuckle from the man who turned to face her now with his whole body - a move which caught her off-guard enough that she faced him.

“ I don’t know your name, but I’ve heard about you. You, ah, stand out in here.” Though she fought it, a blush crept onto Vanesa’s cheeks. “ That’s the first i’ve heard that.” “You think yourself invisibly visible. I like to train myself to those kinds of people.” “You mean you try to be one of them?” Vanesa questioned Yorinobu as she finished her cigarette, elegantly crushing it under her heel as she started the log for her client. When he nodded as he looked out upon the city, she puckered her lips, looking inside at the club. Vanesa didn’t believe for a second that he was anything like her.

She made the movement to leave, and before she could take even a half-step away he grabbed her arm first - and then her face, forcefully but not in a way that hurt her. Yorinobu studied her eyes with undeniable scrutiny before smiling as casually as he had when she first saw him.

“I think I’ll hire you later. Though... “ His eyes lingered on her form, noticing her toned muscles and nearly indistinguishable cybernetics. “You’ll need to be tested first. To see if I can trust you.”

“I don’t work with Corpo-rats.” It came out like a reflex as she pulled her arm from his grip. “Besides. You don’t know me.” Yorinobu allowed her to break free, holding up his arms and backing away from her with a slight shrug. “But you know me? I knew you were scanning me without my eyes even picking me up. Like I said, I’ve trained myself to the invisible.” Vanesa couldn’t describe the way he made her feel. It was something most easily described as confusion - vanesa thought she knew corpos. With him it ... it was odd.

“Vanesa Welles, one s.” She spoke after a long moment with what passed for silence in such a populated city. “My name. Though you were probably lying earlier when you said you didn’t know it.” When he smiled, she knew she was right. Yorinobu pulled another cigarette from his pocket and lit it up. “Once again miss welles, I know the invisible.” She shook her head at the man and turned to leave - though this time he allowed her that, and the two parted ways. Though they were both beacons in their own rights, they disappeared into the crowd in a matter of seconds.

I have four Goro x Vera fanfiction projects I’ll be working on in April-May.

In This Life ( And The Next ) - Soulmate AU Where both Vera and Goro know they’re each other’s soulmates, but Goro’s disgust at her mercenary background and Vera’s unyielding hatred of the corporation he serves, as well as her disappointment that her soulmate is an Arasaka bootlicker, makes it impossible for them to get along.

( Lots of angst and a steady slow burn that won’t drag on for thirty chapters. It’s mostly an Enemies to Friends to Lovers sort of thing because I am fascinated by soulmates that don’t immediately fall for each other at first sight or don’t always get along. )

Afterlife Cafe - Coffee Shop AU is in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, where Vera and Jackie work part-time as mercenaries and baristas at Rogue’s coffee shop, The Afterlife, the only cafe in Night City famous for its use of organic ingredients to make coffee, tea, snacks, etc. Goro Takemura is a regular who goes to the Afterlife for its tea and a chance to speak to the quiet, purple-haired barista who speaks fluent Japanese and gets his order right every time.

( Not the usual cute and quirky coffee shop au because Night City is terrible, and the baristas are forced to defend themselves and their customers whenever a gang war breaks out in front of the cafe. However, it’s not all doom and gloom because I’ll be focusing on Goro and Vera’s growing relationship. Also, I’d love to see more coffee shop aus in the cyberpunk universe! That’d be awesome! )

Stray Dog Among Wolves - Bodyguard AU. In which Vera is the favored bodyguard of Yorinobu Arasaka. Unbeknownst to him, Vera struggles with her hatred towards the corporation that wiped out her entire nomad family and stole her away when she was a child to mold her into the perfect weapon. For years, she has blended in and plots to use the Arasaka civil war to make her escape. Goro Takemura, the right hand of Saburo Arasaka, is the only one who sees right through her facade and vows to expose her. But when Yorinobu murders his father in a fit of rage and frames both bodyguards for his death, the two must set aside their differences to clear their names.

( I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever write this because I have a feeling that the fic will be at least sixty pages long due to political intrigue, Arasaka family drama, Yorinobu being a hot mess, and Vera being tired as hell of the constant bullshit she finds herself in. Will have Enemies to Lovers because the sexual tension between her and Goro is out of control. ) 

Running Backwards - Next Gen Time Travel AU. When an accident thrusts Hikaru Takemura in the year 2077, she is forced to help her unknowing parents expose Yorinobu’s crime. But it’s hard trying to bond with two people who are nothing like the loving parents she left behind especially when one of them has an expiration date. Honestly, how the hell did they manage to live this long to conceive her? 

( I’m a sucker for time travel aus and I wanted an excuse to show off my newest oc Hikaru Takemura. The only child of Goro and Vera, and a hardcore Silverhand fan. )
