“Calm down, Yoonmi. It’s just a meeting with Bang PD and less than a handful of staff members.”
Despite Namjoon’s words trying to calm her down, she could feel her hands slightly trembling and her palms sweating despite her being cold. How could she calm down when there was the possibility of Bighit taking her out of the BTS lineup. What if they saw how well the group worked without her? What if they decided to kick her out? What if she was forced to leave the boys that grew to be her family?
She felt Namjoon place a hand on her shoulder. She let out a sigh and walked into the meeting room with him. After bowing at everyone and properly greeting, Bang PD stood up.
“Okay, let me start this off by asking Yoonmi a question.” He turned to her, and she felt her heart speed up. “Do you remember the hard drive you submitted to me the week before you went on hiatus?”
“Yes.” Her answer came out somewhat like a squeak. Namjoon placed a comforting hand on her knee. That drive held songs that Bang PD had asked her to make. They were a little bit more personal to her rather than to the whole group. She didn’t know why he asked her to do that, but she went ahead to make around a dozen songs.
“We went through them and cleaned up a few just a little bit,” Pdogg told her. “They’re great, and they are more than enough to release to the public. Now, we discussed this among ourselves.”
“We want you to debut as a soloist.” Bang PD told her.
Yoonmi’s breath hitched in her throat. Her stomach dropped. Suddenly, it was hard to breathe. “Are you kicking me out of Bangtan?”
“No, no we’re not,” Bang PD reassured her. “We just thought that it would be a good opportunity for you to explore more concepts and a way to market Bangtan more. You’ll be able to promote both as a soloist and as a member of BTS at the same time.”
Yoonmi looked at Namjoon. She wanted to know his opinion on it. He was her leader, and he knew what was best for her.
“Would she be able to have creative freedom?” Namjoon asked. “Over her music, concepts, album art, all the works?”
“Of course she would,” the marketing manager spoke up. “We’ve discussed this before. We all know Yoonmi is very serious about her work and has really great ideas. Bangtan’s team will also be working with her by giving suggestions and maybe cleaning stuff up, but that’s it more or less.”
“Sejin will also be taking my spot as her personal manager,” Eunhae began.
Yoonmi’s head whipped to her personal manager with wide eyes. “Unnie?”
“I’ll be here to help you always,” Eunhae told her. “They just need me to help with the trainees just a little bit more.”
Yoonmi nodded, just a little bit upset because she had Eunhae as a personal manager since 2014. Sejin was okay. She grew to see him as a friendly cousin she could mess around with. She nodded at Sejin who gave her a smile. She turned to Namjoon once again.
“I think it’s good for you,” Namjoon told her. “You have so much potential, and you’re still young. We all know how you love making songs outside of Bangtan’s image just as much as you love making songs for Bangtan.”
“Can I have some time to think about it?” she asked. She was unsure. As much as she made tons of songs she imagined performing on her own one day, the idea of debuting solo was terrifying to her. She was only sixteen. If she wanted to be technical, she just turned fourteen in international age. She didn’t know if she wanted to debut without her members. She knew she was young and lacking, so she liked the idea of having her members to comfort her and help support whatever area she lacked. She wanted to stay with them. But did they want her to stay?
She could feel her hands getting clammy, and her chest was starting to hurt. She muttered an excuse and stood up. She needed to leave. She needed to hide. Just as tears started welling up in her eyes, she hastily bowed and ran away.
She found herself coming face to face with the studio door. The lights were on. She prayed in her mind that it was Yoongi inside and walked right in. The moment she closed the door behind her, she collapsed to the floor.
Yoongi was peacefully editing something for their upcoming album when he heard the door behind him open. He turned around and saw Yoonmi, except it wasn’t the smiling self he’d been seeing the past few days. She had collapsed on the floor in tears and was having a hard time breathing. Yoongi knelt in front of her.
“Yoonmi-ah,” he called out gently, “can you hear me?”
Yoonmi nodded her head, but the action made her dizzy, and she lurched forward. She gasped, but air didn’t come in. Yoongi cursed.
“Can I touch you?” he asked her. He heard no response. He gently put his hands out towards her as if asking through his actions. When she nodded, Yoongi pulled her onto his lap and brought her head to his chest. He could feel her trembling. He placed his hand on her chest and felt how fast her heart was beating. She cried out.
“It hurts.”
“Relax,” Yoongi whispered to her. She switched to English. That meant she wasn’t thinking properly. He tried to look for the words he needed in English in his head. “Do you feel my breathing? Breathe with me, okay? Slowly.”
Yoongi spent the next fifteen minutes trying to get her breathing to slow down and her tears to stop. He tried adjusting her legs to make her more comfortable, but they fell limp. Yoongi decided to bundle her up instead and pull her closer to him while they sat on the studio floor.
“You’re okay,” he murmured among other reassuring words. “Oppa’s here. You’re going to be fine. I’m right here.”
When her breathing slowed and her sobs turned to hiccups, she spoke. “They want me to debut solo.”
“That’s great, Princess.” Yoongi pressed a kiss to her head. “You’ll do amazing.”
“I don’t want to leave you guys,” she admitted. Yoongi realized what had caused her attack. He mentally cursed her soon-to-be ex-parents for leaving her once again. They didn’t realize the effect it had on their daughter.
“You’re not leaving us behind,” Yoongi promised her. “You’re trying new things with us supporting you. All seven of us will be right there by your side if ever you choose to debut solo.”
“Won’t the others get mad?”
“No one’s getting mad. They’ll all be proud and excited. I just know Seokjin hyung will make the biggest and most obnoxious sign and bring it to your first ever performance.”
Yoonmi nodded at that and buried her head into Yoongi’s neck. His phone dinged. He smiled at what he saw. There were messages from the rest of the members cheering her on and encouraging her. Looks like Namjoon spilled the beans. He showed her his phone.
“See?”
“Hobi oppa is offering to help me choreograph,” she said in slight awe.
“They’re all supportive,” Yoongi lightly stroked her hair. “We don’t want you to be stuck in a boy group image forever. We want you to explore. Look for other things that may suit you as well as our current image does.”
Yoonmi nodded once again. She didn’t say it out loud, but Yoongi knew she was going to accept the offer.
Just a few days after, Yoonmi already did a lot. Alongside rehearsing for another performance they had and constantly being encouraged by her members, she also apologized to all the staff present during the meeting and agreed. She spent days in the studio trying to pick which songs to include on her album with Yoongi’s help. Namjoon was helping her work out all the details regarding promotion schedules and possible music video shoots. Hoseok was with her when she was trying to conceptualize what type of dance styles she wanted to try. It was overwhelming, yes, but her members always made sure to be by her side whenever she was working on anything for her solo debut. They were hovering, actually.
“Oppa, I’m gonna go take a breather,” she told Namjoon while they were figuring out how to work their tour schedule with her future promotions. Namjoon nodded at her with a smile.
“Take all the time that you need.”
Yoonmi smiled back and trudged her way to the artist lounge. To be fair, it was more of a conference room with a water dispenser and a cupboard filled with snacks. She sighed and dropped herself onto the worn out couch. A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts.
“If you’re one of my members, please leave me alone for the next ten minutes.”
“Good thing I’m not one of the sunbaes, then. Can I come in?”
Yoonmi sat up and smiled at the sight of her friend. “Yeonjun oppa! Aren’t you supposed to be in training? Come on, sit with me.”
“It’s my free time right now,” he told her. He sat next to her and took one of the crackers she was eating. “What’s got you so?”
He didn’t finish his sentence and opted to shake his hands around his head instead. Yoonmi laughed at his actions.
“All this preparation stuff is a lot more complicated than I thought,” she told him.
“Ah,” Yeonjun realized, “for your solo debut? I heard that was going to happen soon. I guess the rumors among the trainees are true, then?”
“Yeah. I’m amazed at how Joonie oppa handled this all for our debut back in 2013. I’m already stressed out, and I don’t debut until around June or July.”
“Do I get to be a backup dancer by any chance?”
“I’m planning on just having girl backup dancers,” she looked a little apologetic before putting on a playful grin, “so how about I put a wig on you?”
“I’m down for that.”
Yoonmi laughed at how nonchalant he was about it. She handed him a cup of water and watched him. He still seemed so optimistic even after training for two years without any signs of another boy group being formed. She heard from the trainers that Yeonjun just kept improving and never stopped working hard.
“Oppa, how are you not worried at all?”
“I am,” he admitted to her. “I don’t know when I’m going to debut. Some of my friends left already. All I know right now is training. I just work hard, I guess.”
He smiled at her and shrugged. Yoonmi tilted her head at him in curiosity. “You seem so relaxed about it.”
“There’s no point in worrying,” he told her. “Worrying would slow me down. It could possibly make me miss my chance. I choose not to worry and to put all my energy into trying to improve myself.”
Yoonmi sat back in impressed silence. She never thought of it that way before. People were able to direct their nerves into some positive productivity or something like that? The concept seemed foreign to her.
“Looks like I have a lot to learn from you,” she told him. Yeonjun snorted.
“I think it’s me who has a lot to learn from you, Miya sunbae.”
“Oh my god, noooo.”
“Sunbaenim, please teach me all you know.” Yeonjun had stood up and bowed ninety degrees to her. She laughed and tried to push him up by his shoulders. He resisted and went down to his knees in a full on bow. “I have a lot to learn from you, Sunbaenim.”
“Oppa,” she whined while trying to pull her friend from the ground, “stop treating me like a sunbae when you’re practically my cousin or something. This is embarrassing.”
“I’m only expressing my respect to you, oh main rapper of BTS.”
“Stop!”
“Only if you tell me about that guy you visit in SM all the time.”
“You know I visit Hannah!”
“Yes, and the other rookie guy. What’s his name? Mark?”
“OPPA!”
The artist lounge was filled with laughter and teasing voices. Yoonmi’s stress and worry seemed to disappear. Somewhere outside the door, Bang PD listened to them with a smile. He knew it was a good idea to let Yoonmi hang out with people closer to her age. He walked past the room and to where Namjoon, Sejin, and some of the marketing team were hunched over their laptops and some paperwork.
“PDnim,” Namjoon addressed him, “should I go get Yoonmi? I can--”
“Let’s let her take a break,” he responded with a small smile. “I’m sure we can handle whatever it is we need to get down here.”

WARNINGS: disowning, self-doubt, somewhat depressing thoughts
Tumblr media
Yoonmi happily skipped back into their dorm the moment they got back. They had just finished the live broadcast with After School Club, and it went well. Though she mostly stayed quiet, she enjoyed being in an English speaking environment. She was enjoying herself, especially since her birthday went by without a problem like it did the past few years. Plus, Christmas was only days away! She was going to be able to celebrate Christmas with her brother for the first time ever since he finally moved to Korea with his now wife. That’s why she was ecstatic the moment she saw her brother’s figure sitting on their living room couch. Their eyes met before she could say anything.
His eyes dimmed.
“Oppa?” She walked towards him slowly. Namjoon, reading the room, rushed everyone into their rooms. Namjoon’s eyebrows furrowed as he gave Yoonsung a questioning look.
“Namjoon-ah,” her brother faced her leader, “I’ll be taking her home for the night, if that’s fine with you?”
“Of course, hyung,” Namjoon nodded, “I’ll go and message manager Sejin. Yoon-ah, do you need to pack?”
Yoonmi shook her head. “I have some clothes in Yoonsung oppa’s place.”
Namjoon ruffled her hair a little and said bye. She gave him a kiss on the cheek before following her brother out the door. She didn’t know why she did that. The last time she kissed one of her members on the cheek was around June. She felt a chill run down her spine. Her brother buckled her into the passenger’s seat and started driving to his apartment.
“Amelia, I need you to listen carefully.” She flinched at the name. That’s all her parents ever called her, and she hated it.
“You know I don’t like being called that,” she said with distaste. Her brother sighed.
“I know.” He shook his head a little to rearrange his bangs. Yoonmi knew this was a sign of her brother being nervous. Even after years of not seeing each other, some things never changed.
“Kuya, what’s going on?”
She saw her brother tense up just the slightest bit. Just the same with him, some things about her never changed. She still used the Filipino term for older brother whenever she wanted him to take her seriously.
“Don’t get too shocked.” He glanced at her and took a deep breath. “I tried to talk them out of it, but they didn’t listen.”
“Stop stalling!” She didn’t mean to snap at her brother, but the anticipation crawling up the back of her throat was killing her.
“Aegi, do you know what disowning means?”
Her world stopped. A feeling of dread appeared on the apex of her heart and crawled up until it engulfed her chest.
“Oh.”
She didn’t think her parents would go that far. In the back of her mind, she always had the small hope that her parents would accept her career choice and support her out of their love for her. They did the opposite of that. They disowned her. They threw her aside. They didn’t love her.
“Did they do all the legal stuff?” Her voice was barely above a whisper when she asked this.
“Yeah,” Yoonsung admitted, feeling his heart break at the sight of his little sister suddenly distraught. “American law says they have to pay child support, though, because you’re still a minor.”
“They never did that in the last five years,” she muttered.
There was a silence. Five minutes. That’s how long the two siblings sat in a pool of tension. Yoonmi was swimming in her thoughts. What did she do wrong? All she wanted was to make her parents proud of her in her own way, but they didn’t want that. She finally debuted, but that wasn’t enough. The song she made got them their first win, but it wasn’t enough. Hell, she was getting international recognition at the international age of thirteen, and that still wasn’t enough. She would never be enough. She pulled her hood over her head in an attempt to hide her tears. She closed her eyes and did her best to ignore all the voices yelling at her before she fell asleep.
Yoonsung looked at his little sister’s sleeping form right after he parked. She stayed silent the whole way after he broke the news. She wasn’t even crying. It was like she had shut down. She didn’t deserve this. He knew his sister was talented beyond her age. To the people around her, she was a pretty and talented little girl already achieving what most adults couldn’t during the early teen years. She was everything parents should be proud of and more. He sighed as he got out of the car and went to her side to pick her up and carry her into his apartment.
His little sister deserves all the love and support in the world.
The next morning went by in a little bit of a blur. Yoonmi woke up disoriented and panicked when she couldn’t find anyone in the room with her. Yoonsung spent a good portion of the morning trying his best to calm her down. His wife, Eunsol had resorted to wrapping Yoonmi up in a blanket and calming her with soft whispers. When Eunsol had taken over trying to calm Yoonmi down, Yoonsung did what he thought was best. He called Yoongi.
He knew Yoongi was his little sister’s safe person, and he knew that the younger boy would be able to calm her down. He explained everything to Yoongi and asked him to come over.
“Where is she?” The words left Yoongi’s mouth before Yoonsung could say anything. His hair was all messed up, and he was still in his pajamas. He pointed at the room door and watched as Yoongi rushed into the room.
Yoongi gave a slight bow of his head to Eunsol before gesturing that he'd take over. While Eunsol slipped away, Yoongi sat on the edge of the bed, just in front of the mini blanket burrito he knew as his princess.
“Yoonmi-ah,” he spoke softly, “I’m here.”
Yoonmi looked up at him for a few seconds before throwing herself at him for a hug. She heard him grunt from the impact and immediately backed away.
“No, I’m sorry.” She started panicking. “I didn’t mean to. I promise I won’t do it again. I—“
“It’s okay.” Yoongi hushed her and pulled her into a hug. “You have nothing to apologize for. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
She let herself relax in Yoongi’s hold. She had cried all her tears out, so she just sat there all cuddled up to him and trying to control her breathing.
“I thought they’d change,” she muttered. “I thought they’d be like your parents and become supportive. I tried to become a daughter they’d be proud of, and I know I didn’t do what they wanted me to do, but I really did try. We’re successful now, but I must have done something wrong. Oppa, I did something wrong.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Princess.” Yoongi stroked her hair. “You did nothing wrong. They did. They’re gonna regret doing this one day.”
“I didn’t know,” she began, “I didn’t know I wanted them to just love me until this happened. Even when we started getting more well-known, they still think of me as a disappointment.”
“You’re going to prove them wrong.” Yoongi lightly kissed her forehead. “You’re going to excel and make it big. Then they’ll see how wrong they are.”
By then, she had stopped crying. She was thinking a little more clearly and slowly coming to terms with the fact that she was wrong about her parents only trying to get her to stop being an idol because they care. They wanted a daughter they could brag about and to take over either of their businesses. That wasn’t her. Her parents didn’t want her. No, they weren’t her parents now.
“Oppa,” she questioned, “does this mean I’m an orphan now?”
“Oh, you know what that means?”
“Yah,” she let out a lifeless laugh, “just because I only learned the Seoul accent when I moved here doesn’t mean I don’t know certain words.”
“Just trying to lift your spirits.” Before Yoongi could continue talking, they heard her brother’s voice.
“Yoonmi, I need to talk to you about something.”
She flinched. Yoongi looked down at her to see her eyes filled with panic once again. He gently unwrapped her from her blanket and picked her up like she was a toddler. On a normal occasion, Yoonmi would complain and either try to get down or move to be piggy-backed instead. This time around, she wrapped her limbs around Yoongi and let him carry her to the living room. At that moment, Yoongi didn’t see her as the idol that the public saw. He saw her as a scared fifteen-year-old. He never wanted to see her that scared or broken again.
When she felt herself being set on the couch, she hesitantly looked up at her brother and his wife. Eunsol smiled at her and handed her a mug of hot chocolate.
“Thank you,” she whispered. She kept herself tucked into Yoongi’s side, a little scared at the fact that her brother might throw her out for overreacting that way.
“Yoonmi-ah,” he began, “You should know that there’s something your members, Chan, and I spoke about back when we first saw each other again.”
“You’re not kicking me out, are you?”
“Of course not, aegi.” He took her hand in his and squeezed it. “We just decided that, as much as I’d love to take custody of you, that would be putting you under mom and dad again. That isn’t the best thing for you. Since Chan knew you the longest, he offered for his family to take you in.”
Yoonmi thought back to Chan. He had been her unofficial brother ever since she first arrived in Korea. He was as much as family to her as the rest of the Bangtan boys were. Even then, she didn’t want to burden their family. They already had three kids. Who was she to take the spot as a fourth?
“I don’t want to burden them,” she told him.
“But you won’t,” Yoongi reassured her.
“Chan brought the situation up hypothetically to his parents a few months ago,” her brother explained. “Apparently his mom jumped at the chance, and his dad was more than willing to help you out. He said his siblings love you, as well. As long as you want it, I’ll message him.”
“Will it really be okay?” she asked after a short pause. She looked at Yoongi who nodded at her and gave her a kiss on her forehead. She looked at her brother who sighed with a sad smile.
“It will be fine,” he told her. “It just legally means I’m not going to be your brother, but Chan is.”
Yoonmi’s eyes widened at the realization. She crawled into her brother’s lap like she used to do when she was younger and engulfed him in a hug. She just got her brother back, but she lost him again just like that. She didn’t notice Eunsol take Yoongi to the kitchen to give the siblings a moment of privacy.
“I’ll still be your brother,” he chuckled and pulled her into a tighter hug. “Just not in the eyes of the law, I guess. But mom and dad doing something stupid doesn’t mean I’m going to stop being your brother.”
“Please don’t leave me,” she mumbled into his shoulder.
“I would never. I promise. You’re stuck with me forever, aegi. Even when you’re all famous and forget about me.”
“Kuya, I would never forget about you. Not if I had the choice.”
“Is that a yes, then?”
Yoonmi almost forgot that her brother had just asked if she wanted to be adopted into another family. She couldn’t make that choice yet. It was too soon. She needed some time to properly process everything before making any decisions.
“Can I get back to you on that?”
“No problem.” He helped her stand up and led her to the kitchen. “Let’s go have breakfast. Eunsol cooked a lot, and I’m sure Yoongi wants to wait for you before he eats.”
Yoonmi let herself get distracted for a while. She still needed to tell the rest of her members in some way. She needed to think about whether or not she’d let herself be added into one of her oldest friend’s family. For now, though, she just needed to clear her head.
Three days later, she made her decision and asked her brother to call Chan.

Yoonmi threw herself onto the guest room’s bed. Well, if the process ends well, she was told that this room would be her room instead of the guest room. She sighed and looked around. The walls were plain white, and so were the sheets on the bed. There was an empty desk by the corner and what looked like a small closet by the side. The room looked exactly like what she needed.
A clean slate.
A knock on the door drew her out of her thoughts.
“Hey, Little One.” Chan walked into the room and settled by her feet. “Hyung and Noona are talking to Mom and Dad.”
“I figured. Where are your siblings?”
“Hannah,” he began, “is at a sleepover with some friends. Lucas is at our aunt’s place. And you are right there.”
Yoonmi let out a choked laugh. “They must find it weird, huh?”
“No, they’re pretty excited actually,” Chan chuckled. “Hannah especially. She’s excited to have a sister.”
“If all goes well, then she’ll have one.”
“Hey, Mom and Dad already said they’d adopt you.” Chan’s voice was gentle as he shook her foot around.
She laughed. “I was there when we talked about it, Oppa. I’m just— nevermind.”
She wasn’t about to admit to Chan that she was terrified. She was left behind, and now she’s just arriving on someone else’s doorstep for them to take her in. How sure was she that they wouldn’t leave her behind? Wouldn’t Chan’s siblings feel off about her sudden arrival into the family?
“Come here.” Chan looked at her stressed out form. She was barely fifteen yet she already went under too much stress. He took her hands and pulled her to sit up. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
“I don’t know,” she tugged at the ends of her hair. “I guess I’m just scared.”
“Nope. Nuh-uh. No half-truths.”
“I hate that you knew,” she muttered.
“Of course I knew,” he told her. He pulled her into a hug and tucked her head under his chin. She automatically wrapped her arms around him as well. As comforting as Chan was, she  found herself wishing Yoongi was there, too. “I can read you pretty well. Now, what are you scared of?”
“This new beginning, I guess,” she began. “I don’t want to barge in on anything, and I don’t want to start anything that might not last.”
Chan felt his heart drop. The young girl cuddled up to him was scared of being left behind. Not only that, she was also insecure despite the fact that she had nothing to be insecure about. Yoongi told him about what her mindset would be like before she arrived, but he didn’t think that she’d actually think that.
“Listen, Yoonmi-ah,” he spoke in full confidence, “Mom and Dad already considered you their kid the moment I introduced you on video call. Hannah and Lucas love you and always ask me about you. Not to mention I was the one who insisted you be part of our family, not you. You’re not barging into anything, you’re accepting an invitation. You don’t have to worry about it not lasting either because we’re keeping you forever.”
“I need to go back to Korea for Bangtan, though,” she murmured.
“The hyungs are gonna have to steal you back then.” She felt Chan’s hug tighten and couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
“Jungkook oppa’s gonna fight you.”
“Okay, maybe that’s a little intimidating.”
Yoonmi let out a laugh. Jungkook did start working out seriously, and his growing muscles were a little bit scary. Then again, Chan started working out more seriously, too. She buried her face into his chest and sighed.
“Yoonmi, sweetie,” a voice from the door called. Chan’s mom. “We talked to your grandma. She’s going to send over your stuff, and it’ll all be here by next week.”
“Thank you.” Yoonmi smiled at her as she let go of Chan. “Any word from them?”
“We’re going to get your brother’s help to reach out to them,” Chan’s mom told her. “That way, they could hand over their rights towards you to us. It’ll take a while, though. Withe negotiations and some investigations.”
“Sorry for hassling you,” Yoonmi apologized while bowing her head. She felt a hand rest on her head comfortingly. She looked up to see Chan’s mom smiling at her.
“It’s not a hassle, sweetie,” she reassured. “You’ve been part of our family since Chan introduced you to us as his new little sister. It’s a pleasure.”
“I told you.” Chan poked her stomach which made her laugh.
“Alright, you two,” Chan’s mom laughed, “Time to head down for dinner. Yoonsung has been getting excited over your dad’s grilled lamb. I would adopt that kid, too, if he weren’t already an adult.”
Though she muttered the last bit, Chan and Yoonmi heard it loud and clear. They exchanged looks and laughed before following out the door and down to the backyard to eat.
Tumblr media
“Where’s Yoonsung hyung?”
Yoonmi was on video call with Jungkook and Seokjin who had taken a break from their practice just to be able to talk to her. She smiled. If there was one thing she was completely certain would be a constant in her life, it was her group.
“He took Eunseol noona on a date,” Chan chimed in. “He said something about it being one of the last few dates they can have before the baby is born.”
“He’s literally my age,” Seokjin groaned, “and he’s already married with a kid on the way.”
“You’re just old, oppa,” Yoonmi laughed.
“Kim Yoonmi, you better get back here real quick so I can nag you in real life.”
“When are you coming back, Mimi?” Jungkook’s face went really near the camera. Yoonmi couldn’t help but smile at that.
“We’ll be back on the 16th,” she told him. “So about three days from now? Channie oppa’s coming back with us.”
“Oh, you better drop by before going back to the dorms, Chan,” Jungkook grinned. “We have a Christmas gift for you.”
“For me?”
“Yoonmi and Yoongi chose it, but we all pitched in.” Seokjin winked through the camera which made Chan laugh out loud.
“Ah, right,” Yoonmi remembered. “Channie oppa’s mom—”
“Our mom.”
“Yes, our mom,” Yoonmi giggled, “told me I’d look nice with dark blue hair. She offered to take me to a salon to get it done.”
Jungkook clapped his hands in excitement. “I agree! Go for it!”
“I’ll handle the managers,” Seokjin promised her.
Yoonmi smiled. Classic Seokjin. He’s always been the one to handle the higher ups whenever the group was doing something they probably shouldn’t be. They talked a little bit more, mostly about what events they’d attend once Yoonmi got back. Chan left to take a shower which left her with Jungkook and Seokjin.
“Mimi-ah,” Jungkook called out to her, “you better be smiley when you get back here. You’re getting a lot of cuddles when you get back. Jimin hyung has been talking about it.”
Yoonmi’s mind briefly flashed back to all the comments she saw about her being too close to the members. She remembered all the names they called her. She could feel her heart rate speed up. The queasiness in her stomach grew. Her chest tightened just the slightest bit.  No. I went on hiatus to build myself up from that. She shook her head and let out a little chuckle.
“I’m getting a little old for that,” she smiled.
“What are you talking about?” Seokjin gasped dramatically. “You’re still my baby! You're not allowed to be too old for hugs yet.”
“Guys! Let’s go to the park!” Chan’s sister called from a distance. Seokjin heard this and sighed.
“We should be getting back to practice, too,” he admitted.
“But, hyung!”
“We’ll talk about this again when you get back,” Seokjin told her before smiling. “Aegi, I love you!”
“Love you, too,” she smiled back. An impending sense of doom loomed over her head.
“See you in a few days!”
Jungkook’s smiling face was the last thing she saw before the call ended. She took a deep breath.
“You ready?” Hannah asked her from the door. Yoonmi sat up and smiled at her.
“Hey,” she said to distract herself from whatever was happening to her. “I have a friend back in Korea named Hannah.”
Tumblr media
“Yoonmi, sweetie, are you okay up here?” Chan’s mom spoke from the other side of the door.
She opened the door and smiled. “I’m doing fine, Auntie. I just finished arranging my things. I have more things than I thought. My lola sent more than I thought she would.”
(lola is the filipino term for grandmother)
Yoonmi invited her into the room. She looked around. A series of books and notebooks settled on the shelves right next to a music box her brother had bought for her when they were younger. The desk had a teal lamp and little wooden box which she knew held all her medals from gymnastics and racing. Her grandma even sent over her trophies, but Yoonmi left them all in the box and shoved it to the very back of the closet.
“I think it’s still quite little,” Chan’s mom said while looking into the box on her desk. “You don’t mind if I put these up like Chan’s swimming medals, do you?”
“Oh, I don’t mind,” Yoonmi confirmed. “I mean, you did buy me new bed covers. And take me to get my hair dyed. And accept me into the family.”
“It’s all because we want to,” Chan’s mom sat beside her and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Look at you. Such a sweet and beautiful girl. You know, even if it isn’t official yet, you can call us mom and dad.”
Yoonmi felt her ears get hot. “Mom and dad. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Oh, right! Eunsol wants to take you to Starbucks.”
“Oh, I’ll go head down.” Yoonmi stood and slipped on the big hoodie Hannah took from Chan’s closet to give to her. She looked back right before leaving the door. “Thanks, mom.”
Her mom watched as Yoonmi ran down the stairs quickly to avoid seeing a reaction. She chuckled at how shy Yoonmi was being.
Yoonmi, on the other hand, ran down the stairs and straight towards the living room where she found Eunseol sitting on the couch.
“Unnie, is it a good idea for you to drink caffeine?”
“Good thing I’m only getting us hot chocolate and some desserts then,” Eunseol winked at her before standing up and looking towards the back yard. “Hannah, let’s go!”
“Noona, can I get a cookie?”
“I got you, Lucas,” Yoonmi called out to the younger boy.
“Dad’s driving.” Hannah skipped towards the door and took Yoonmi’s hand on the way. “We’re stealing Eunseol unnie from Yoonsung oppa for the rest of the afternoon.”
“Sounds good,” Eunseol chuckled while following after them. Yoonmi smiled. This was going to be her new family, and she found herself looking forward to officializing it even more.
Tumblr media
Yoonmi bounced excitedly in her seat while she watched the familiar buildings pass by.
“Yoonmi-ah, wear your seatbelt,” Eunseol reminded her.
“I got her, Noona,” Chan leaned over to buckle Yoonmi in. “How did we not notice that? We’re literally almost there.”
“Looks like I still have to train you on how to take care of her,” Yoonsung laughed from the driver’s seat. “She took it off five minutes ago so she could sit on her legs.”
“It’s comfortable,” she defended herself. “Man, I’m gonna miss Australia.”
“So am I,” Chan smiled somewhat sadly. “You know, I still can’t believe Dad teared up when you tried to let go of the hug.”
“He was really sweet about it all,” Yoonmi smiled. She looked out the window and saw the familiar building that she walked by all the time. Almost there.
“Yoonmi,” Eunseol tapped her knee, “I think you have a little party waiting for you.”
Yoonmi looked out the window and sure enough she could see seven figures standing by the entrance of their dorm’s building. She grinned. The moment the car stopped, she flung the door open and ran right into Jungkook’s open arms. She felt a series of people bunch around her and squeeze her into a group hug. She could hear Hoseok’s little excited cheers and Namjoon’s voice saying how she might not have been able to breathe. She smiled because she was with her constants again after a long time.
She was home.

❝ 𝕓𝕦𝕣𝕘𝕖𝕣 𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕓𝕠𝕟𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 ❞
𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚎𝚜:
⇢ just a short thing of taehyung and yoonmi bonding bc why not? (also i’ll add the keep reading thing later when im on my laptop aksjfj)
Tumblr media
Yoonmi looked up from her desk when she heard a knock on her door. She saw Taehyung peep his head in.
“Can I come in?”
“You don’t have to ask.”
Yoonmi’s eyes lit up when she saw Taehyung holding chocolate milk. You can’t drink that. You still need to slim down more for the comeback. Yoonmi shook her head and turned back to the laptop. She made a mental note to save up for her own so that she wouldn’t have to keep borrowing from the company.
Taehyung sat next to her and gave her the chocolate milk. He looked at her screen, the gray background with colorful layers staring back at him.
“Is this the one for the show Somi is on?” he asked her.
Yoonmi nodded. “One of them. I still can’t believe the producers reached out to have me produce songs for them.”
“I think it has to do with you being friends with one of their most popular contestants,” Taehyung responded. He leaned forward to press play. “That, and we have been attracting some attention recently. Oh, this sounds a little foreign but not.”
“Right? Like a Cher Lloyd collab with Little Mix kind of style.”
Yoonmi sipped at her chocolate milk while she watched Taehyung react to her song. He had closed his eyes and was bobbing his head to it. He even started moving his shoulders around a little. She let out a laugh when we got up to start dancing around.
“Aigoo, our makdungie did so well.” He squished her cheeks together. “Because you did well and worked hard, oppa’s going to treat you. Come on, Let’s go.”
“I don’t know,” Yoonmi hesitated. She knew that Taehyung meant food. Probably Burger King or something, and she wasn’t sure if she could eat fast food. Besides, she still had her second song to finish. Well, technically speaking, she already finished it. She just wanted to go through it again to make sure it was perfect for the final evaluation of the show.
“But your Tae oppa knows.” Taehyung pulled her up and pressed save on her progress just in case. “We are going to go out and bond because we haven’t had Taemi time in so long!”
“I guess I do need to buy Yoongi oppa a birthday gift.” Yoonmi relented. Taehyung cheered and ruffled her hair. He pressed a quick kiss to the side of her head before running to her closet to look for a jacket for her to wear.
That’s how she found herself walking around Itaewon with Taehyung, who was busy looking around to buy street food. Yoonmi could faintly hear the song by the newly debuted group that had a female member as well. Astro. I should really try to contact her, too.
“Oppa, why are we in Itaewon?”
“You wanted to buy Yoongi hyung a gift, right?” Taehyung asked her. “He likes useful everyday things, and you like making handmade and customized gifts. How about a wallet?”
“A wallet?” With that, Yoonmi felt Taehyung gently pushing her to one shop in particular.
The store was filled with products made with different colors of leather. Yoonmi found herself walking around and staring at everything in awe. The bags she saw all looked so pretty. A particular backpack caught her eye, but she pushed the thought of buying it for herself to the back of her mind.
“Anything I can do for you?”
At the random voice, Yoonmi let out a surprised squeak and hid behind Taehyung. She wasn’t really good with surprises. Or with talking to store clerks. Waiters, too, to be honest.
“We were wondering if you do customized wallets,” Taehyung spoke for her. “My little sister wants to make a personalized wallet for our other brother.”
The clerk, a friendly looking old man, smiled at her and brought them over to a display case. Yoonmi looked at its contents. It held multiple pouches, wallets, and other things made out of leather. She could even see patterns and letters embossed and engraved into a few of the products. Yoonmi grinned. She could get Yoongi a wallet customized for him. Taehyung was right!
“We have a series of wallets here,” the clerk told them as he opened the display case and took out one wallet in particular. “This is our most popular one. We usually do the embossing and engraving ourselves, but we give the customers a choice to cut and sow the wallets on their own.”
Yoonmi’s jaw dropped. She wanted to make it on her own. That would make the gift more special. She looked at Taehyung who nodded at her encouragingly. She pouted at him as if to silently tell him to ask for her.
“Is it possible for us to come back tomorrow? She wants to make one herself, but it’s getting late, now.”
“Of course,” the old man smiled and pulled out a notebook and a pen. “Just tell me the time, your name, and which one you want to make.”
Taehyung looked at Yoonmi with encouragement. He wanted her to say it on her own. She sighed before taking a deep breath.
“My name is Kim Yoonmi,” she began. She pointed at one of the simpler wallets in the case. “I’d like this one in black, please. Is 5PM okay?”
“Coming from school tomorrow, are we?” the older man asked her with a laugh. “Of course. I’ll have it ready for you by then.”
“Thank you,” Taehyung said while bowing at the owner. “Yoon-ah, what do you say?”
“Thank you,” Yoonmi bashfully told the old man. With a promise that she’d be back the next day, they left the store.
Taehyung brought her to the nearest Burger King he could find, just as she expected. She trusted Taehyung to choose something for her and went to go look for a booth to sit in. She chose one off to the side beside the window. Taehyung eventually came back holding a tray where she could see one very big burger and one a lot smaller.
“Any updates on the whole adoption thing?” Taehyung asked her as he settled into the booth. He placed the tray to the side and arranged their food in front of them. Yoonmi gratefully accepted the iced tea and took a sip.
“Channie oppa’s parents talked to Yoonsung oppa’s parents,” Yoonmi informed him while unwrapping her burger. She still hesitated to call Chan’s parents Mom and Dad sometimes. “Last night they told me they were doing the last paperwork they needed.”
“Looks like you’ll be legally part of their family by tomorrow then. Eat some fries! I got one really big set mostly because it’s cheaper than buying two small ones.”
Yoonmi looked at the fries and hesitated. Their comeback wasn’t until May. She had time. With that, she took a fry and ate it. Taehyung had a satisfied smile on his face, and that made the hesitation in her mostly disappear.
“Oppa,” she called out to him. She giggled a little when he tried to respond but couldn’t because of the burger. “Thank you for spending time with me today.”
“I love spending time with you.” Taehyung’s eyes widened as if he couldn’t believe she said thank you for doing the bare minimum. “Yoongi hyung and Jungkookie just hog you all the time.”
“I’ll be sure to tell them that.”
“Please do. I think Jin hyung is getting anxious about not seeing our princess as often as he wants.”
Yoonmi and Taehyung burst into giggles. She then went back to eating her burger and listening to Taehyung talk about something he found interesting.

Yoonmi lightly tugged at the ends of her hair while watching the music video. She loved it, of course. Seeing her members in the fun normal teenager kind of environment made her smile. She just felt off to see that she definitely was on the thicker side in comparison to her members. Maybe she should go on a diet alongside her physical activities.
“Hey, princess,” Jimin knocked on the open room door, “you’ve got some visitors.”
Yoonmi looked up to see Daehwi and Somi walking right into her room. She jumped up and ran over to give them hugs. Her best friends came over after how long of not seeing them! (That was an exaggeration, she saw them in school just the other day) She brought them over to her bed while Jimin closed the door behind them. She offered them some cookies she had stored on the desk.
“Look at you, Miss Comeback,” Daehwi lightly teased while tussling her hair. “Your hair is finally free.”
“I still think there was no point in the school making you wear a wig,” Somi laughed.
“So do I,” Yoonmi agreed, “but how are you guys? We only ever talk about school now. What’s up with Brand New Music, Hwi?”
“Woojin hyung and I transferred together,” Darhwi shrugged. “I like it there. I have more musical freedom to work on my own stuff.”
“It must be nice knowing how to make music,” Somi sighed.
“You can learn,” Yoonmi reassured her, “I’m sure you’ll be great at it!”
“I might have to put that off for a while, though,” Somi smiled sheepishly, “I’m going to be on another survival show.”
Yoonmi and Daehwi’s jaws dropped. They looked at each other then back at Somi.
“Wasn’t Sixteen scarring enough?” Daehwi asked. Somi shrugged.
“Management told me yesterday,” she began, “They said something about promoting me more. I agreed, and filming starts on Friday.”
Yoonmi recalled her mental calendar. It was Wednesday, meaning it was only a few days until she had to go through another survival show.
“That’s in two days!” Daehwi shouted, “Is JYP crazy? They’re giving you so little time to prepare!”
“I’ll get through it,” Somi waved it off, “It’ll somewhat be like Jisung oppa winging his monthly evaluations, but I’ll be more prepared. Anyway, Yoonmi, let’s watch your music video!”
Yoonmi raised her eyebrow at her trying to end the topic. She knew how it felt to want to end a conversation, so she relented and took the laptop she had borrowed from the company again. She could hear Daehwi muttering to himself about how JYP was doing Somi wrong. They sat in silence, only reacting every now and then to the music video.
“You’re literally so cute,” Somi pinched Yoonmi’s cheeks when the video finished, “I wanna squish you.”
“You’re gonna bruise her cheeks,” Daehwi laughed.
“But, Hwi,” Somi said, “she’s so lovable!”
“Which is why I think her haters are stupid,” Daehwi scoffed.
“Daehwi,” Yoonmi began.
“No,” Daehwi cut her off, “Yoonmi, you don’t hear what they say about you in school. About Somi, too! It’s either they want to befriend you guys for your fame or they take any chance they can to shoot you two down.”
Daehwi quieted down after the mini-rant, and Somi was looking everywhere but at Yoonmi. She tilted her head.
“Did I miss something in school?” she asked.
“I got suspended for a week,” Daehwi grumbled. Yoonmi was about to speak when Somi started recounting the story.
“Daehwi overheard some guys talking about us in a weird way,” she started, “and he may or may not have cursed them out.”
“Daehwi,” Yoonmi scolded him, “I appreciate it, but you got in trouble! Where was Somi when this happened?”
“I was in class,” Somi clarified, “and, well, at least he wasn’t the one who spilled rotten milk in a bunch of people’s lockers.”
There was a silence. Daehwi leaned against the wall with a smirk on his face. Somi and Yoonmi exchanged looks.
“I regret nothing,” Daehwi shrugged when the two girls turned to him. “Those boys were being misogynistic over you two, and I wasn’t about to let them go free. Wait until they see the school’s anonymous page tomorrow morning.”
“You’re terrifying, did you know that?” Somi asked him.
“I have to defend my two soulmates,” Daehwi defended himself then pulled both girls into a hug, “because you two are amazing.”
“You’re acting like such an oppa,” Yoonmi shook her head while wrapping her arms around her two friends.
“Well,” Daehwi teased, “I am practically a year older than you, Yoon.”
“Okay, oppa,” Yoonmi laughed, “Putting the kinda sad things aside, Somi! What are you planning to perform?”
Silently, the three of them agreed to not bring up the public’s view of the two girls and just spend the rest of the day catching up with each other.

❝𝕦𝕟𝕟𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕤𝕝𝕒𝕞 𝕕𝕦𝕟𝕜 𝕖𝕡.𝟙❞
𝚛𝚎𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛𝚜
⇢ italics in coversations mean it’s spoken in english; this along with future slam dunk content will be tagged yoonmi.usd and can be viewed here
The screen only shows her from the neck down as she walks into the studio.
“Ah, I’m nervous. I have to go quickly before curfew, though.”
The cameras focus on her hands. Her fingers were nervously fumbling around while she silently walked through the halls of KBS.
She abruptly stopped walking and smacked her own hands. She let out a groan as there were confused emojis appearing on screen.
“The oppas are going to scold me if they see this on broadcast.”
The camera panned up to show the smiling face of the young, blue-haired girl. The words “BTS Miya” flashed on screen. It showed clips of her being a guest MC on Weekly Idol and some clips of her on stage.
Then it goes to her entering the bright room. She bowed at the directors and producers before turning to Defconn, Taehyun, and Jongmin. She bowed at them in greeting before doing as the three older men instructed her and sitting down.
The unnies were seen reacting with excitement. Jessi cheered at the sight of the girl she worked with for a commercial in the past. “Oh, my girl Miya’s here!”
“Good to see you here again!” “I don’t know if I should say the same to you, oppa.” Yoonmi’s blunt yet innocent statement made everyone laugh. She giggled along as well, but she didn’t really understand why they found that funny. She genuinely didn’t know.
“I thought this was a variety show for girls. I know these three sunbaes are boys. Unless…”
Her trailing off while looking at the, with wide eyes made them freeze for a little bit. The sweat drop sound was edited over the scene before the three older men burst into messy explanations mixed with slight laughter.
“I don’t think we need to teach her anything,” Taehyun told the cameras. Jongmin waved his hand. “Nonsense. Maybe she needs help with something. Tell me, Miya. Do you struggle with anything?”
“I’m really awkward,” she admitted with a shy smile. “Defconn oppa knows this, but I tend to get quiet sometimes.”
“You did get better, though.”
“No problem,” Taehyun began sincerely, “because you have your unnies here. They’re all friendly and helpful. Try and get comfortable with them, and the awkwardness will naturally disappear.”
“Oh right, you’re the maknae here!” Jongmin clapped in realization. “That’s a 26 year difference, if I counted correctly.”
They showed Miran and Sook in the waiting area groaning at the sound of their age difference while everyone else laughed.
“This is your first time as a regular cast member on a variety show,” Defconn read from her profile, “but you’ve done variety in your group’s Vlive series Run!BTS.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“You can say this will be a little bit like that. This says your dream is to learn how to do special makeup?”
“Yes, I’ve been interested since my break,” Yoonmi admitted. “A friend bought me a lot of things to try out, but I’m not completely sure how to use everything yet. I want to be able to do creative makeup!”
“Well, be prepared to do that here, but with a twist because this is variety,” Taehyun told her.
When Yoonmi nodded, Jongmin gave her an encouraging smile. “That’s all from us. You can go through that door over there.”
Then, the door opened to reveal Yoonmi shyly walking into the room and bowing at her sunbaes. Jessi stood up and opened her arms. “Come to mama.”
Yoonmi laughed but complied and hugged the older girl. She turned to Tiffany after and bowed.
“Hi,” Tiffany dragged out while giving her a hug. Yoonmi hesitated a little bit since she never formally met Tiffany before, but gave in.
“You're acting like you’re close, Tiffany,” Jinkyung lightly accused.
“No,” Tiffany laughed, “because I see her in our company all the time with SHINee or with some of our trainees. I want to get close, too!”
“Okay, unnie,” Yoonmi giggled a little bit while testing out the name. She gave all the other girls hugs as well and settled on the seat beside Hyorin.
Her solo shot in the next transition sequence introduced her as the “Lovely Nation’s Makdungie”. When they moved into the next room, they had her do the slate. She stretched her arms out in an L shape before counting down a little shyly and clapping her hands together with a jump. She went back to settle on the beanbag chair between Tiffany and Jessi.
When they were talking about why Tiffany and Jessi were casted, Tiffany spoke up. “I think I know why Miya was casted.”
“Me?” “Yeah, like, you started training when you were ten, right?” “Technically eight, but yeah let’s go with Korean age.” “Well you’ve been so set on being an idol for so long, you didn’t get to do much normal kid stuff, huh?”
They realized they all debuted really young. Yoonmi’s solo interview flashed on screen. “I went to Korea alone back then,” she said with a wistful smile, “and I always focused on getting better in producing, rapping, dancing, and singing. The oppas tried to make me feel as normal as possible, but the other kids in my school did things that I never got to do. Even now.”
Fast forward to them in the place where you get tested for your driver’s license after acar ride filled with music. Jessi asks Yoonmi why she’s so amused.
“Unnie, I was here just last month to get my non-racing motorcycle license.” “You drive motorcycles?” “Been racing since I was six!”
Jessi’s, Tiffany’s, and Sook’s shocked faces were all zoomed in on.
She mostly stayed quiet while clinging to Jessi’s arm. The camera focused on her expressions a lot when she reacted.
“Unnie, fighting!” Yoonmi yelled after they did their mini hands in.
That was the end of her cuts in the first episode.

HYYH Pt.2 Era
Visuals:
Tumblr media
the blonde stayed but the bottom portion of her hair was bluuuueeee
her cheeks were the roundest they've been in this era
to her disappointment, there was a lack of skirts and dresses in this era (even during awards shows)
except for that one photoshoot for their album, but the stylist never brought back her forest princess look
Album Credits:
production: whalien 52, ma city, baepsae
lyrics: run, butterfly, whalien 52, ma city, baepsae, house of cards
choreography: butterfly
Outside BTS: yum yum (produce 101), crush (produce 101)
Line Distributions
MV:
hellooooo more theories
she was like really playful in the mv, jumping around, laughing, cheering, and stuff like that while watching everyone mess around
taehyung taught her to spray paint on seokjin aksjdhf
everyone simultaneously hit her with pillows, and there was a close up of her laughing
at the end of the yoonkook fight just before the music starts again, the cut showed yoonmi on the staircase looking like she was about to cry
she didn’t have duo shots, like seokjin, she sometimes had solo shots
car tunnel scene!!! “oppas, let’s go!” was the trigger word that made them all run away while seokjin drove away
she was thrown into the bathtub, too
she looks back at jungkook and tugs at his sleeve for him to follow everyone at the end
cue cute cuts in the credits of her messing around with the boys
Iconic moments:
blonde-blue hair!!!
when everyone saw she was running in three-inch heeled boots the whole music video (chunky boots, not stilettos)
when she climbed on top of the cars in that one scene of the music video and just used them as her personal catwalk (bonus in the behind the scenes where she was seen apologizing to the crew who owned their cars, but the crew were all just looking at her fondly)
she also jumped into the back of the moving pickup truck with ease???
her growth spurt! tiny baby went from 4’9” to 5’0” and the boys almost always talked about it
herenergy when they finally got to perform 2nd grade and ma city
(highkey she fell off of an elevated platform, but jungkook caught her so she’s okay! embarrassed but okay)
the lowkey forest princess look she had for the album photobook
management did her wrong by not letting her join the collab stage with Got7 (for “symmetry purposes) but they let her have a camera and she filmed a whole bangtan bomb just hanging out mostly with Jackson and Mark
she never really did lives unless invited by the other members, and she slightly distanced herself from the members off stage (but it wasn’t that noticeable)
actually, she was less enthusiastic during promotions and fansigns (but not in the concerts bc she absolutely lived for the concerts)
something bad happened around december, and no one knows what. yoonmi just seemed a lot more upset.
more or less, yoonmi was getting detached during this era.
