What if... you decided to run away? part three | OT7 BTS au
A very belated update starring my soulmate @shadowofahope and some angst. Warnings: mentions of murder, crime scenes, betrayal, injury, a mentally deranged villain, and bts hurting. 6.3K words
Prev
Two options presented themselves to Min Yoongi as he watched you happily having breakfast with the others. He could tell you and this whole dream would be shattered, or he could bury it, and they could all live happily ever after. He was deluding himself he knew it, it wasn’t a question of if you’d find out, it was a matter of when. He also knew, if he wasn’t the one to tell you, you’d never forgive him.
Still with knowing this, his tongue felt heavy in his mouth as he looks at you, his throat seized. All his instincts wanted to do was keep him from breaking the mirage of everything he wanted, and that’s what he would be doing. Call him a coward, like Namjoon was doing with his gaze eating into the side of Yoongi’s face, but to keep that smile on your face, he’d be anything to keep dreaming.
“Hyung, Princess is sleeping next to us tonight,” Jungkook stares down the Prince with the most serious glare he can muster before he sits down for his serving of pancakes. Jimin and Taehyung nodding furiously on either side of him, imploring with their eyes that you both agree.
The idea of you not being in his arms as he slept made an uncomfortable itch manifest under his skin, akin to anxiety but more volatile. He keeps himself from scratching, nodding quietly in agreement as he plays with his food. He can feel the surprise in the room, Jin and Hobi looking at each other in shock. Even you nearly choked on the orange juice, whipping your head round to inspect the silent prince.
He tried to keep his features neutral, knowing you could read him like a book. Your reassuring palm on his thigh lets him know you can see through him, that light squeeze trying to coax him to look at you, but he’s too afraid to. If he faces you he would have to face Namjoon too, and right now, he couldn’t deal with either of you.
“Yoongi?” Your voice is so understanding and soft, the disgust he had in himself he could feel rise like bile in his throat at the sound.
“I don’t like it Jagi,” he tries to smile, trying to meet your eyes. “But you’re right I have to share.”
He excuses himself, unable to stand lying to you about his current predicament, Namjoon’s eyes following him every step of the way. You’re about to follow after him but the taller individual beats you to it, telling you to stay.
The remaining men look between themselves, questioning each other silently before you verbalise their thoughts.
“Did someone say something to him?” You wince at the accusation in your own words.
“We’ve been saying something to him since we landed Princess,” Jimin deadpans, eyes narrowing at you as you defend the greedy prince.
“Look I know he’s been… unreasonable lately, but you know him,” you didn’t want to talk about Yoongi’s vulnerabilities, but the suggestion was clear in your tone. “He doesn’t mean to be-” you hesitate, trying to find the right word.
“An asshole?” Jin suggests, making Jungkook snicker at the language. “We know Princess, but I think he’s forgetting the fact we nearly lost you too.”
“Of course you’re going to defend your prince over your knights in shining armour,” Taehyung mumbles to himself, his fork hitting the plate harshly as he picks up a piece of pancake.
You press your lips together to hold back the laugh, Jin and Jimin mirroring your expression.
—
You knock on the door again, the fifth time, but still no response. It had been a week since you last saw her and now you were worried something was wrong. You frown, there were only so many places you could be on this island and when the weather was scorching like today, the only place was home. So why was your new friend not answering the door?
“Nym?” You call out again, but not a whisper greets you back.
You sigh, sweat starting to drip from your scalp to your face. You turn back to your place, telling yourself you’d try again later.
The heat of the sun cooked the top of your head, you curse yourself for not bringing out a hat or parasol or something. As beautiful as this piece of heaven was, you were not acclimated to it.
You try not to run back to the villa to escape the heat, ready for a cool drink as you reach the front step.
“Where have you been?” Yoongi almost yells in his panic when you walk through the door making you jump.
“Hey,” you frown, hand on your chest to slow your startled heart. “What’s wrong?”
He composes himself at that question, as if he wasn’t aware of his demeanour until you called it out, like he forgot himself for a moment.
“Nothing,” he mutters, walking away with his head hanging low in guilt.
What the heck was that?
“Yoongi?” You call after him, knowing he wanted to be alone but not wanting to leave him with the thoughts drowning him. You follow him into his room, staring in worry when he sits on the bed and hangs his head into his hands.
“Baby?” you ask, heart thumping uncontrollably as your mind races. “Yoongi what’s wrong?”
You’re scared to approach him, depending on his disposition he didn’t always welcome physical comfort when he felt vulnerable. Whatever cloud was thundering above him had his shoulders slumped, you couldn't see his eyes, couldn’t read his expression.
“Yoongi say something,” you beg, still standing by the door. “You’ve been acting weird all week, please say something.”
He sniffs, lifting his head, eyes full of water ready to spill. You stand in shock for a second, Yoongi wasn’t one to cry. You rush to him, holding him tight as he starts to sob, knowing he was unworthy of your comfort right now when he kept the worst secret from you.
“Jagi, tell me what's wrong please,” your own bottom lip wobbles, you hate seeing him upset, it kills you.
He shakes his head against you. You would never forgive him, he tries to get ahold of himself, pushing away from you as he wipes his face in his hands. The look of worry you give him breaks his heart. He takes your hand in his, trying to reassure you silently by stroking his thumb against your skin but he can’t meet your eyes.
He wants to thank you when you don’t push it, when you let it go for now, but the words are bitter and vile in his mouth and he doesn’t release them.
—
“Why are you guys making popcorn?” Namjoon asks when he enters the kitchen, Yoongi close behind him after another argument.
“We fixed the TV,” Jungkook says with a mouthful of snacks.
The prince becomes petrified with panic, he was the one to mess with the wiring so you wouldn’t have access to the outside world or the news. The fear that freezes him, suddenly jolts him out of shock, almost running to the living room where he finds you flicking through the channels. He doesn’t think before he snatches the remote out of your hand, turning the device off and gaining everyone’s questioning gaze.
“Yoongi?”
“Hyung, what are you doing?” Taehyung asks in disbelief, he just got comfortable for movie night.
He can’t say a word, his mind drawing blanks for an excuse.
“You’ve been acting weird all week,” Jin says.
“What the hell is going on with you?” Jimin looks at him as if he’s grown 2 extra heads.
“No tv,” he breathes, the panic not subsiding. Namjoon stands behind him, his cheeks sucked in as he watches the scene. He’s still angry from the fight with the prince, but he wasn't vindictive enough to throw him under the bus.
“Why?” Hoseok asks.
“He’s hiding something,” you finally speak after observing him, trying to take the remote back but he grips onto it like his life depends on it.
Jungkook had followed behind the two when they entered, moving towards the screen while you and Yoongi stared at each other. He uses the controls on the TV to turn it on, Yoongi’s face turning blank when he changes channel. It’s his worst luck that it revealed what he tried so desperately to hide.
You turn to the image of your father’s coffin being walked out of his castle, held up by 6 men as Baekhyun and Taeyeon walked behind it dressed in black. The words the newscaster was saying don’t even reach your ears, your face contorting from shock into pain.
“Jagi…”
You start hyperventilating, the others caught in stupor, unable to move. The king was dead, and they all had strong suspicions that Yoongi knew.
“Y/n let’s calm-“ Namjoon tries reaching for you but you snap away at his touch.
“Did you know?” He would take bullets right now than the look of fire on your face.
“Y/n-“
“Did. You. Know.”
But his face confesses for you where his words can’t. That’s all it takes for you to break down, falling to your knees with your arms around your head, whimpering not just at the loss of life, but the loss of trust.
“Jagi,” Yoongi tries again, his heart blaring fast in alarm.
“Don’t,” the strength in your voice is gone, but he knows not to say another word.
The tension turns thick, Jungkook mutes the news channel, but the footage of your father’s funeral still plays on the screen for them all to see. Minutes pass, no one daring to speak first. Jin glares at the prince, knowing what emotional turmoil he just put you through, how could he keep this from you? His gaze flickers to Namjoon with even more contempt.
“I have to go back,” you say more to yourself than them, coming to stand on wobbly legs, but your words cut through the silence for them all to hear.
“No,” the prince almost growls at the suggestion, but you look ready to tear him right back, looking like a wounded animal on edge, ready to do whatever to survive.
“You,” that one syllable held more venom than he had ever heard from you, finger pointed like a knife in accusation, “don’t get to decide for me, you don’t get to control me, y-you-“
You can’t help it, your words falter as you break down again, the corners of your sneer weighted down by grief, the bottom lip trembling as the fire in your eyes is drowned out by tears.
“You of all people know what it’s like to be controlled your whole life, and you tried to do that to me.”
Your words hit him, they do, like a truck to the chest, ploughing him down, but he can’t regret his actions, only your sorrow.
“If you go back,” he takes a step towards you. “We,” he points to himself and the rest of inhabitants in the room, “go back.”
He waits for the realisation to pass your eyes, and he knows it’s there as they soften on him for a moment.
“If we go back Jagi,” his voice cracks, hating himself for causing you this pain, but wanting you to listen to him. “We are dead men.”
“I can ex-“
“They won’t wait for an explanation Y/n!” He yells frustrated. “They’ll sentence us to death before we’re questioned, you know how it works! How it really works.”
Your lips quiver as you try to look strong, but everything inside of you is crushed. The hurt clawed its way through your body, reducing you to nothing.
“I should have married him,” you say quietly to yourself but the sincerity in your tone breaks their hearts. You regretted choosing them, choosing your freedom.
“And lived unhappily ever after?” Yoongi scoffs with disgust at the image of you and Wang at the altar.
“And this is better? Letting my country and my people fall into the hands of a psychopath? Be betrayed by men who I thought loved me enough not to lie to me?” you reply, staring despondently at nothing. “I was born with my duty and I have failed it.”
His red rimmed eyes can’t look at you.
“For what?” Your hoarse voice presses, hurting you all. “For something as trivial and fickle as love, the monarchy comes first and I have forgotten my place.”
“Please,” he begs, head hung low as every word you uttered, although right, killed him.
“My father was right.” It was like a final bullet, the harshest slap or ice bucket thrown over him.
You turn to Namjoon.
“If you didn’t love me, would you have let me escape?”
Both your minds go to the night he caught you, the night their feelings were revealed. He thinks it through, understanding his own duty. You stare in silence, his mind calculating, overthinking. There just wasn’t a world that existed in his mind where he didn’t love you, so how could he answer?
“I don’t know,” he confesses sincerely.
“I wish you didn’t,” you breathe. “My father might still be alive.”
“That’s not your fault,” Taehyung says but you shake your head.
What if he died because of you? Because you ran away? The guilt eats away at you, and you know if Yoongi and Namjoon were honest from the beginning you could have accepted it, could have leaned on them for emotional support but now you felt a rift between yourselves that ran too deep to fix. Yet despite that distance that now existed between you, you had no one else to turn to.
“I don’t know what to do,” you sob, looking to them all for guidance. It was ironic that you were now technically queen, and you had no clue, no power, nothing.
They stay silent, solemn as they look to the ground and avoid your gaze.
“Princess there’s nothing we can do,” Jin says softly, not wanting to upset you but unable to feed any fantasy you had of fixing this.
“I can’t leave my people to Taeyeon,”
Yoongi stands in front of you, his eyes piercing into yours, with an anger you couldn’t place.
“They’re not your people anymore,” he says harshly, “you abdicated, this isn’t your problem.”
“Hyung,” Jimin warns him gently, he was pushing it.
You search his eyes, wondering why he was trying to hurt you further, until you realise there was fear he was trying to hide with his wrath.
“You knew when you left, eventually Baekhyun and that psycho bitch would be next in line,” Yoongi continues, ignoring Jimin. “You don’t want that life Y/n.”
A knock on the door snaps everyone’s attention to the sound, the tension not broken but they’re grateful for the pause.
Your new friend enters cautiously, eyes wandering around the room at everyone’s sullen expressions and the endless stream of tears pouring down your face. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what was going on.
“Nym, is everything okay?” Namjoon asks politely, not appreciating the disruption but knowing there wouldn’t be one without good reason.
“I… I did some digging,” Nym breathes nervously, wanting to bolt out of the room with the heaviness in the air but this was important. “The authorities already know something was unusual with the late king’s passing so-“
“You knew too?” The sting of betrayal had you interrupting before you could stop yourself. You were stuck on this island and you thought you could run to your friend’s place for help when the conversation was over but now you truly had nowhere to turn to. This paradise had turned into a prison, they weren’t going to let you leave.
Nym looks at you sadly, apologising silently hoping what was uncovered with a week of no sleep would earn your forgiveness.
“I thought hard about what I could do to help, and I think I have something.”
“What is it?” Hoseok asks.
“The authorities know there’s something odd about the King’s passing, but Prince Baekhyun and his wife closed any investigation, so I did some digging,” Nym explains, feeling the intensity of everyone’s stares, no one breathed. “I…”
She pauses, looking at you wondering whether it was right to just lay everything out on the table, but how can something so destructive be cushioned. Namjoon’s eyes glance towards the laptop in the computer genius’s arms.
“What did you find?” you barely whisper.
“She didn’t cover her tracks very well,” Nym replies, hesitating. “I don’t think you should see this.”
“Taehyung and Jimin, maybe your should take Y/n-”
“No,” you interrupt, the hell were they going to discuss this without you, that was what caused this fucking problem in the first place. “Show me.”
Your eyes don’t implore your friend, they demand authority and everyone in the room understands why you deserve your title, blood had nothing to do with it. The laptop is placed on the table, everyone’s eyes glued to the screen.
“The Imperial castle has two sets of security cameras, someone hacked into them to erase everything the night of your fathers death,” Nym explains. “It took a week but I recovered them.”
“How did he die?” Jin asks what you couldn't stomach asking.
“The official story is he mixed medication with alcohol and…” there's a pause for concern over your wellbeing, but you were done with walking around eggshells, they were all broken anyway.
“Say it,” you beg.
“He fell down the Castle stairs,” Nym says, watching your reaction cautiously, “there was a dent on his head that was unexplainable with the fall, but they think he might’ve bumped it on something given his state. They blamed the security camera malfunction on the storm.”
“And what actually happened?” Namjoon asks.
“Just play the footage Nym,” you say, it didn’t matter anyway, what was done was done, what you wanted was the truth.
After a deep breath, Nym presses play, the screen is grainy at first but clears. Your father comes into the frame, obviously heavily intoxicated with someone pushing him from behind. Whoever it was, wears a ski mask, looking around on edge. There’s a glint of metal in their hand that you can’t make out but it’s pressed against his back. After a stumble, he trips on the ground, and the masked figure tries to pull him up. They get into a tussle, your father grabbing the individual but only able to pull off the balaclava. Your breath catches as you recognise her, and now the object in her grasp. You jump when the pistol is slammed against his skull, and he’s pulled to his feet. He’s disorientated, clutching his head in his hands before he’s pushed to the stairs. You close your eyes, knowing what was about to happen, and you thought you could stomach it but you can’t. Arms wrap around you, someone strokes your hair. You bury your head into his chest, knowing it was Taehyung who had come to comfort you from the most abhorrent scene you ever had to witness.
“I’m so sorry Y/n,” Nym says sincerely as you muffle your cries.
—
They sit in silence once Nym leaves, the hours tick by with you sitting on the ottoman alone, too quiet, too stoic, too deep in thought. No one dares to break it first, no one dares to move, scared that the already fragile state of your being could shatter more than it already had. There was no coming back from this, that was the fear, no recovering.
The footage would be released with your permission, it would solve the issue of letting the psychopath sit in your throne, and yet there was another fear in the room. The proof of your father’s murder didn’t solve everything.
“I’m going back,” you say calmly.
“But-“
“You’re not coming with me,” you don’t mean it in a cruel way but it still breaks their hearts. “I have a role I was born to serve, a people who need a queen they can trust, not some relative who thought they were safe from ever having to wear the crown.”
“But we’re happy here,” Jimin says with wobbling lips, eyes and nose streaming.
“Why can’t we come with you?” Jungkook cries.
“Because for right or wrong reasons, the government will still have you tried for concealing my whereabouts without consulting the royal guards,” you state, hating the matter of fact but you couldn’t risk their safety. “Rules are rules, and no matter what story we spin, we still broke the law.”
“You’re going to leave us?” Hoseok asks in disbelief. “After everything.”
You bite your lip hard to stop your eyes watering but it doesn’t work. This would be the hardest thing you would do but it needed to be done.
“Not forever,” you promise, voice hoarse and heavy. “But until I can clear your name and guarantee your safety, this will have to be goodbye.”
“No,” Yoongi shakes his head, his arms crossed, his eyes closed as if that would protect him and stop everything.
“You and I both know what happens if you come back with me Yoongi,” you sniff. “If you get imprisoned in my country, the repercussions will be war and you know it.”
“What if we go back to our country?” Hoseok suggests, “Yoongi’s uncle might be able to liaise with little Queen’s government and clear our name.”
“There’s no guarantee that would work,” Namjoon sighs, massaging his head with his fingers as he tries to solve this impossible conundrum. Politics was more complicated than chess, it was like playing on a board 50 times the size with a thousand more unique pieces.
“Not to mention what Y/n’s government will force her to do in return for clearing our name,” Yoongi seethes, finally looking at you with a sad anger welling his eyes. “What if they ask you to marry Wang like your father proposed, to honour his wishes and get whatever deal he was offered by selling your hand in marriage.”
“That’s not how it works,” Tae says in disbelief, looking between you and Yoongi waiting for someone to reassure him you wouldn’t become a pawn for your country. You only look at him sadly in reply.
“One problem at a time please,” Jin mutters, catching Namjoon’s headache.
“Please don’t go back,” Jimin begs, the palm of his hands covering his eyes as he sobbed. This was so cruel, that they finally got to taste a life with you in their arms for only seconds before you were taken away.
“What if Princess married Hyung?” Jungkook suggests desperately, but the question makes you burst more into tears, your head tilted to the ceilings as you try to stop.
“She can’t get married without the permission of the courts,” Namjoon says solemnly, head hanging low. “And Yoongi Hyung’s uncle would never agree, there’s too much bad blood.”
“He barely agreed to let Yoongi become little queen’s guard,” Jin remembers out loud.
Yoongi shakes his head. He hated this, the fact his blood had a say in his life, ruled it without thought to what he wanted.
“If my father was king he would have allowed it,” Yoongi admits, for years he prayed his uncle would sire offspring so the crown would never fall on him, now he was second guessing his wishes.
You both look at eachother, another life flashing before your eyes, one so out of reach it was more of a fantasy than a dream. You still held a resentment for his actions, but the concept of leaving him overcast everything. You understood it to some extent but you truly didn’t know whether you could forgive him.
“It doesn’t matter,” you say, “right now it doesn’t change anything.”
He hangs his head in shame, knowing he really fucked up beyond repair.
Your attention shifts to Namjoon as he kneels in front of you, the equation in his head starting to solve itself. His eyes implore into yours, the rest of the group fade to the background when he takes your hands into his, his warm touch soothing you.
“You always said growing up royal was awful,” He starts cautiously, not wanting to cause any more problems or misunderstandings. “There were too many rules, too many restrictions, too many classes on how to behave.”
You nod as you take in his words, wondering where he was going with this.
“Your father pushed you away, there's a history of that you know,” he informs you. “The first heir is always treated differently, the spare is raised with less restraint, they say the prospect of raising a child who is set to replace you throughout time has caused parental rifts.”
“Where are you going with this Joonie?” you ask, he smiles apologetically, the tangent was somewhat an accident to avoid a harsh truth he needed to reveal.
“If you go back, your whole life is decided for you, Queen of a country or not, the government will set your alliance to someone they see fit, you will be expected to have two children, at least, and then they will be subjected to everything you did growing up.”
You stare at him. The thought had crossed your mind before but you always swore you would do better. The reason your father was so harsh on you was he couldn’t have a spare, your mother died too soon after your birth. You were it, he drilled that into you from day one.
“I can protect them,” you say weakly, tears starting again when Joon shakes his head in disagreement.
“I know you’ll fight Y/n, but it would be you against a hundred officials, you tried to fight your father and you couldn’t and every one of those officials were behind him in his decision.”
“Joon,” you cry, wanting him to stop. His hand squeezes yours, the other wiping away the teardrops gently trying to cushion his words.
“To the world, you are so privileged, and part of that is true, but they haven’t seen you suffer like we have, and I hate to think about how much you suffered before meeting us.”
You sniff, looking around the room at the rest of them looking so downtrodden, your eyes falling last on Yoongi who wipes his tears before they can fall. Yoongi, who understood you through experience, who you connected with the moment you met.
“You guys are the best thing that ever happened to me,” you tell them truthfully, “I don’t want to go back without you, but I don’t know what else I’m supposed to do.”
“It’s your decision little Queen,” Hoseok steps forward, smiling sadly but knowing how hard this was for you. “We’ll support you no matter what.”
The younger three glare at him for that comment, the others hanging their heads low as if in prayer.
“Whatever happens,” Jin agrees, “you always have our love and support Princess.”
“Please,” Yoongi begs quietly, his face scrunched in pain as he cries openly. The sight breaks your heart all over again, you really did hate seeing him in pain.
—
“After the tribulations and trials of our beloved royal family, I think the country can say this is a monumental event in history. Like treachery out of a mediaeval plot, today also marks the one month anniversary of the death of our late king, murdered by the wife of his nephew in a scheme for the crown.
Of course this plot was unveiled by his daughter, who at the time fled the country for her safety, but returned to ensure the safety of her people and bring Kim Taeyeon to justice.”
Sadness sat like stones in their stomachs, sinking slowly as your face graced the screen. You smile but they know it doesn’t reach your eyes, you wave to the crowd and the cameras before climbing into the carriage off to the citadel for your coronation.
“She looks so beautiful,” Taehyung mumbles, in awe of your figure in the red ruby gown. He blinks back tears, your absence didn’t get any easier for them, and seeing you on a screen just cemented the fact you were no longer here.
“I can’t believe she went back,” Jin whispers to himself but the others hear. They also hear his unsaid words hiding between the lines, you chose duty over them, the irony was hard to ignore. You always thought they would do the same.
“Of course the matter still remains about the young Queen’s foreign bodyguards who’s current whereabouts are unknown. There is massive divide in the country and government over the actions of Kim Namjoon and his men, one of whom is the current Prince of another nation. There are calls for their presence in the court, others are demanding they receive the medal of valour, and during a recent official press conference this is what our new Queen had to say…”
The screen shifts to you at a podium, cameras and lights flashing on your form as you look at your paper. They hadn’t seen the footage yet but the date stamp on the footage showed it was from a few days ago. Jungkook holds his breath, waiting for you to speak, it felt like a lifetime ago that he heard your voice.
“I understand there is a lot of speculation over my disappearance, and rumours that I was abducted by the men sworn to protect me.”
The youngest can’t help sniffling at the sound, he misses you and the feeling opened new excruciating wounds in him where he thought there was room for no more.
“I am here to clear any misunderstanding over the events of the last month or so. This accusation has put to question the character of the men my own father, the late king, employed and I can say one thing for certain with absolute conviction…”
You take a pause, looking up at the cameras as if staring into each of their souls. They can see the longing in your eyes, the tears forming that you blink away, a moment of weakness that you had to hide.
“Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin… Min Yoongi,” you take a breath as if his name pained you. “Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung and Jung Jungkook are the best men I have ever met, and they saved my life, and any call for their imprisonment is a crime against the crown and against me. I will do everything in my power to clear their names, and have them return. Our relations with King Min must remain peaceful, and I will not have my country tarnish their character and cause unrest between two nations.
My first act on the throne will be to resolve any remaining issues between our countries and draw up a new treaty with King Min, and I know my people will stand with me. Thank you.”
“She’s gonna do it,” Namjoon says quietly but proudly, smiling sadly when he sees the resolve on your face as you start answering press questions. “It’ll take some time but we’ll be by her side again.”
The room is quiet as they watch the footage change back to your coronation, all of them swallowing back tears with heavy hearts. They wished they could be standing there beside you, but one day they knew they would be again, no matter how long it took.
There are cheers coming from the crowds as the crown is placed on your head, you take a deep breath that they can all see, a smile to the people but your eyes are glassy.
“Our beautiful little Queen,” Jimin says in awe, tears slipping that he can’t help.
“I know she’ll be the best Queen in the world but I’m so anxious for her,” Jin breathes, his heart nervous for you.
“I wish we were there,” Hoseok whispers.
“She shouldn’t be there,” Yoongi says solemnly, standing. “She should be here with us.”
The others watch him walk out of the room, the prince had fallen into a deep stoic state, they just hope the hurt would fade with time. You carved out Yoongi’s soul the day you left, they could only pray he would find himself again.

You don’t know how you managed to give your new staff the slip, you had paid the driver off with enough money that he couldn’t refuse, despite what your advisors and the government officials tried to stop you from doing.
You knew it would bring you nothing but more grief, but you had to. You could already hear Namjoon berating you, it almost makes you smile before you remember why you’re here. You’re glad to see the tower is cold and depressing as promised, the criminals in here were all in treachery of the crown.
The guards all gave you worried looks as you demanded to see her, and there she stood in the last cell, trapped behind metal bars finally looking like the madness she held within. Her hair stood on end, a nest of knots that could never be undone, much like the chaos she caused in your life.
She sees you, and now you really do smile vindictively when her eyes travel down the length of your coronation gown before fixing themselves on the crown that sat where it belonged. She growls, her teeth baring in disgust and hate you never witnessed before.
She presses herself against the metal, reaching for you as if she could snatch all her wants within her grasp.
“You abdicated, that crown is mine!”
It was strange, confronting her like this. Almost surreal, the concept that this was the woman you befriended, the woman who failed in killing you, and the woman who murdered your father. There was no denying it, you saw it for yourself.
“Why couldn’t you just stay away?” she has the gall to sob, to truly cry over her loss as if she was the victim, and you knew then there was no hope for her, not that you would ever offer it to her in the first place.
You shake your head in disbelief, a humourless laugh before you take a step closer, wanting no one but her to hear your words.
“You know what?” You start, voice quiet but unwavering. “If you had just left everything well enough alone, I wouldn’t be here, if you didn’t let your greed become so heinous it cost a man his life, eventually you could’ve worn this crown and I would have let you.”
She screams, the sound making you want to slap some sense into her.
“But your actions have cost so many people in so many ways,” you say sadly, not an ounce of sympathy for her, but for yourself as selfish as that might sound. “I can see now there’s no saving you.”
“That crown is mine! THAT CROWN IS MINE!” She repeats it as if it would become true, getting louder and louder as you stare.
“You killed my father you psychotic bitch,” you spit, but there was no point to this, there would be no real justice for her actions, and she would never regret them. You wonder what closure you were trying to gain by being here, there was nothing you could do to make her feel your pain.
—
“Your majesty,” your new personal advisor bids your farewell. You had moved to the cold imperial castle, the official site for the monarch. The day had cost you all your energy and you could barely bring yourself to climb the stairs to your new chamber. You try to ignore the urge to glance towards where you know they found your father’s body, the hurt of losing him still fresh despite the strain of your relationship with him. You push away the thoughts to deal with another time.
Your jaw hurts from forcing your face to smile all day for the public eye, as you get ready for bed the deep empty void in your chest gets filled with pangs of sadness so intense you have to stop and breathe for a moment. You had kept it subdued all day for duty, but it came back with a vengeance.
You were now Queen, and completely utterly unfathomably alone. The thought grips you so painfully in the silenve you can’t help the sob that turns into a wail. There was no one here to comfort you, no one to hear you yet you still covered your cries with your hand, sinking pitifully to the floor.
The agony of leaving them didn’t fade for a day. You forgave Yoongi and Namjoon the second you returned to this awful cage, wanting to regret leaving them but there was nothing you could do about your decision now. You knew what Yoongi was trying to protect you from, there was no malice in his actions, just desperation that undid you both. You walked back into the life you tried to escape, and lost far more than you could ever explain.
In truth you didn’t know whether you would see them again, whether you would win the fight to clear their name. You would never give up, you couldn’t, the only thing that kept you going was getting them back, otherwise this was going to be a long lonely purgatory for you without them.
“Min Yoongi I forgive you,” you barely breathe out loud, needing him to hear you no matter how impossible. You knew him better than you knew yourself, knew he needed to hear those words for his own peace, or he would never forgive himself. You knew what state you left him in, and that one thing was your biggest regret.

You nod seeing that she is speaking quietly almost faintly that you are afraid your voice would only come out as loud and disturb the peace atmosphere. The ballroom stands empty, silent and still. The polished the hardwood floor and high, painted celling reflect the flickering glow of the chandlers overhead. Tall windows set into one wall overlook the guidance, while ornate doorways on each side of the room lead to other parts of the palace.

! disclaimer - This story is a work of fiction. I do not own BTS and the description of them in this story does not want to reflect nor portray them in real life.
Crystal chandeliers, shining glasses of the finest wine, and chords intoning classical melodies. Fingers intertwining as gowns kept swaying, strangers chattering about politics, war, and sometimes about passions, literature, and secrets…
Overly-dressed up women, whose make-up was classy and whose voices were soft, whispered into each other’s ears as young men passed by.
The high society, the aristocracy - the world you were fated to be born in and to live in.
The corset you wore was too tight on your abdomen since you could not eat more of the cake. You always finished dessert - and the sponge cake had strawberries inside, so this was very unlike you. You were sitting down - back straight and shoulders relaxed as your mother had taught you - while the other young women danced in the hall. You could also see your father talking to another short, long-bearded man, and you had hoped the topic was indeed not you.
That was the first, and probably the last, time you had agreed to accompany your father to a Grand Ball; he perfectly knew you didn’t fancy celebrations or big events, but he had insisted so much over the past month your mother had begged you to go with him.
“Just this once, darling. You know how men are, especially your Father!”
You had convinced yourself it was part of her plan to finally get rid of him for a night. Even the Queens needed a day off, and you were aware of your father’s antics: the King was really needy, and loved being taken care of… Just like a boy.
Nevertheless, you could no longer lie to yourself: you strongly suspected something else had led your father to this event. You had just turned twenty-one years old, so you were still too young to marry, weren’t you?
A few months before your birthday, your father had requested to speak to you about an important topic concerning the crown, and you knew that he wished for you to find a man to marry, so that you could inherit his place on the throne. However, as soon as the word arranged left his lips, you had already stormed off. You were not going to spend the rest of your days with someone you barely knew, and didn’t like.
After that discussion. your father never brought up the matter publicly, but you perfectly knew he had already informed your mother about it. To you, it wasn’t fair: they had married for love, and not for the crown. Their marriage was not decided by someone else aside from them, so you thought you deserved the same treatment they got when they were young.
What your father did not know was that you already loved someone. You knew that if he ever found out about your relationship, he would be furious, but since your teenage years, you had become cunning and knew how to lie.
Knowing how to lie and avoiding getting caught were two plus points, especially for a princess whose life got constantly suffocated by people who wanted to pry into your privacy. Not that you had one, of course.
Kim Taehyung. He was your bodyguard, the person you trusted most in the world. Just imagining his face sent shivers down your spine, certainly not with a negative implication. From the first day your father introduced you to him when you were only sixteen, you had fallen head over heels for him.
For most of your time together, your love had remained hidden, mainly because, in front of everyone's eyes, Taehyung remained formal and silent. However, when you were alone together - although it happened rarely - he revealed his true colourful identity: he talked about art, how much he loved to paint and how you, in his eyes, were the perfect subject to depict.
"If only I could, I would paint you. That way, even when we are far apart, I would be able to admire you as many times as I want."
Taehyung was an extremely gifted and articulate speaker. He always used the perfect words for every situation, and his voice, so deep it made your heart flutter, made it easy for him.
Maybe it was the way he squinted his eyes every time he laughed or the way his gaze was always focused on you. But you knew you loved him.
What you didn't know, however, was whether he loved you.
You sharply inhaled, moving the remaining piece of cake with the silver fork, debating whether to eat it and feel sick or leave it there.
“Is this not to your liking?”
A male voice suddenly awoke you from your thoughts, and you turned your head in order to connect it to a face. Your heart skipped a beat when you finally saw him: he was beautiful, really. And not the kind of beauty that intoxicates you, that weighs you down, but a beauty so delicate that it leaves you speechless for a moment.
“I hate it.”
You replied, batting your eyelashes repeatedly, as it would have been impolite not to answer him immediately. A proper young lady never stutters - you could hear your mother’s stern tone in your head.
Instantly, you noticed his dark-brown eyes, and you swore you could lose yourself in them.
His full lips curved into a heart-shaped smile - different from the ones you were used to seeing, those fake, mechanical laughs - and his eyes shrank to pretty half-moons.
“The Ball, or the cake?”
His question was innocent, yet you could hint at a spark of curiosity in his gaze. You took a brief moment to admire him: his dark hair was neatly combed back, and he wore a slightly unbuttoned white silk shirt and black trousers that seemed to fit him a little tight.
He did not let you answer, allowing himself to sit by your side without asking any permission. You were breathless for seconds that seemed to last almost too long as his hand gently grasped your wrist, with such delicacy that you seemed not to feel his touch.
His fingertips squeezed lightly, until he brought the back of your hand to his rosy lips, but without making any contact with your skin.
The only contact that never ceased, however, was that of his eyes on you. Your ears seemed to stop hearing the music and the room all around seemed to have emptied out completely as the man in front of you consumed you with his eyes.
“Jimin, Park Jimin.” He announced, and his name echoed into your head. “It is an honour to finally make your acquaintance, Princess.”
“You already knew who I was.”
You let go of your grip on your fork with the hand you still had free, before making a brief bow as you lowered your gaze.
“Oh no, Princess. I ask you not to bow to me."
You furrowed an eyebrow before a small smile appeared on your lips. You knew it was rude to smile like that, but his words reminded you of a quote in a book which your mother read to you as a child.
"You remind me of someone." You murmured, retracting the hand Jimin still held close to his lips. Thus, you remembered the gesture and your cheeks blushed.
"Someone you like?"
Your smile became bigger, but you tried hard to hide it by bringing a hand towards your lips.
"Park Jimin, did you by any chance come here to court me?"
"Would that be considered a sin, Princess?"
The air in the hall became strangely heavier. Either the presence of that unknown prince had caused a strange effect on you, or the corset was really so tight that it took your breath away.
Out of the corner of your eye, you glanced at your father who - at the same moment - looked in your direction, pointing at you with open arms.
"My daughter! My beloved child, she always precedes me in everything!"
He pronounced this aloud and, as his timbre was very deep, the words were heard by many in the audience. The man next to your father, the one he had been talking to all evening, stood a few steps behind him as they both approached the table.
"King Park, this is my beautiful daughter, Y/N." He gave the man a resounding pat on the shoulder as soon as he was close enough. "And I guess this young man is your son, Jimin."
You remained in complete silence as your eyes moved between the two men. You were confused by the situation, yet when you turned to Jimin, he did not have the same expression. He seemed... relieved, by their presence.
"It is an honour, Your Highness. I was fortunate enough to meet your daughter before the appointed meeting, I hope it is not an inconvenience."
Appointed meeting, those words echoed in your mind.
"Of course not, why should it be? That is something to celebrate!"
Still sitting far too composedly, you watched them talk as though you were not there to hear them. You felt like a ghost trying to participate in a conversation,
You parted your lips slightly, attempting to speak.
However, the dark blond-haired boy next to you interrupted your attempt. His voice was calm, and the words he used were always well thought out as if he had studied a script.
"I would be grateful, Your Highness, if you would allow me to ask your daughter for a dance."
As he said this, you couldn't help but keep your eyes locked on him. His attitude was certainly that of a prince, but there was something about him - something extremely mysterious - that you still couldn't pick up on.
"I-"
The words came out of your mouth automatically, but you still had so many questions on the tip of your tongue that remained unanswered.
"But, of course, Prince Jimin. Y/N would be pleased, wouldn't you, my daughter?"
No, you were definitely not pleased. At that very moment, you just wanted to run away. Like a lost puppy, you looked for a familiar face in the surrounding hall hoping to see Taehyung. As you looked for help that would never come, the three men kept watching you, waiting for an answer.
You had two choices: say no and disappoint your father, then endure his complaints on the long ride home, or say yes to give him five minutes of satisfaction.
Your approval wouldn't have led to consequences, would it?
"I would be delighted." You lied, batting your long eyelashes several times, something you had learned to do to show interest. You knew men liked that.
Your father gave poor King Park another resounding pat on the shoulder, inviting him to leave the two of you alone.
Jimin seemed satisfied with your response as he gave you a sincere smile. You did likewise, before rising from your chair - which had become uncomfortable - allowing your dress to regain its shape. Your thighs had gone numb from sitting for at least two hours watching the guests dance, so - as if you had suddenly forgotten how to walk - your legs gave out.
A pair of hands grabbed your hips, making sure to hold them firmly, and when you looked up, you found yourself dangerously close to the blond man's face. Your hands rested on his, grabbing his fingers to loosen their grip on you. You noticed that these were incredibly cold and not too big - not like Taehyung's.
"Forgive me, I shouldn't have. Are you alright, Princess?"
"I'm fine, I apologise, I don't know what came over me." You took a step back, moving further away from the man, as if you weren't going to be dancing together anytime soon.
An awkward silence fell between the two of you. Your face was slightly lowered and your eyes stared at the shiny floor tiles. You could not imagine the expression Jimin might have had: was he perhaps impatient? Or, like you, was he feeling embarrassed?
"Don't you think it's better to put embarrassment aside, Princess?" Of the two, Jimin was the first to break the silence. "After all, we have to get used to each other's presence."
You raised your head abruptly, and your pearl earrings tinkled from the movement. Your heart drummed in your chest and your insides twisted. Repeating the phrase in your head, you tried to understand its meaning.
"What does it mean?"
Your voice came out broken, it happened to you whenever you felt anxious.
"Come on, Princess, don't play dumb. Our wedding is only a few months away now."
Your breath began to get shorter and shorter, as if someone was tightening the strings of your corset increasingly tighter, and a hole was opening up in your chest. You felt as if your lungs were being torn from your chest and the world around you was spinning all too fast. Jimin's face contorted into a worried expression and you could see his mouth move, but every sound was muffled.
"I must… I must go and freshen up."
You didn't know what tone you had used, and you didn't even know if the prince had heard your words, but within moments you had already drifted off, disappearing into the crowd of people. To the unfamiliar eye, it would have been difficult to recognise you. But those who knew you well - on the other hand - would have found you instantly.
Regardless of your appearance or posture, you entered a hall with few light sources, the majority of which was in darkness. Your right hand was resting on your chest, clutching the hard material of your corset, and you wished you could just rip it off.
Soon, a veil of tears blurred your vision even more, causing everything around you to become less clear. You did not even apologise when your shoulder bumped into someone else, continuing undaunted on your way.
The person you had hit, however, stopped and turned their gaze, watching you flee. They continued to watch you until you turned a corner, disappearing into the darkness. Having found a quiet place, you slid down a wall until you found yourself sitting on the cold floor. The room you were in was dark - the dim light of the moon coming from the one large window. The room was empty, only for a few abandoned paintings leaning against the walls.
A thousand questions tormented your thoughts. The idea that your father had given you away to a stranger made you nauseous, and the more you thought about it, the more the cake you had eaten rose up in your stomach. You brought your hands to your mouth, choking back a sob, while your breath was still too short to allow you to think clearly.
You were alone. You felt completely abandoned to a cruel fate, a fate you had not chosen but had to undertake - whether you wanted to or not. Disbelief gave way to anger, and anger soon became disappointment.
Your father had sold you and most likely felt no remorse. You ran your hands through your hair, forgetting the fact that it had been carefully arranged, therefore ruining your hairstyle.
Breathe, Y/N, breathe. But even though you kept telling yourself to calm down, it was impossible. You wished you could escape, hide your identity and finally live the life you had dreamed of.
But your Red Thread of Fate had been tied to the Crown since your birth.
"Y/N!"
A familiar voice resounded in the room and all was silent for a few seconds until quick footsteps approached. The figure knelt right in front of you and - without hesitation - grabbed both your wrists so that your gaze focused on them. Your eyes immediately locked onto a dark-brown pair, looking at you intensely.
"Y/N, it's me, Taehyung. It's me."
Serenity. Kim Taehyung brought serenity into every place he stepped.
You watched his face fully illuminated by the moonshine, and took it all in. His black hair was slightly wavy and fell over his face, framing it perfectly.
If Hell had his face, then you were ready to burn for Eternity.
"It's all right, love. I'm here."
Taehyung didn't waste any time sitting on the ground, picking you up by the hips so that you were resting on his legs. An arm firmly wrapped around your shoulders while a hand gently caressed one of your cheeks.
The warmth of his body caused a feeling of cosiness in you, yet your chest still felt like it was about to implode. "I- I can't breathe."
He instantly seemed to realise what the problem was, because his eyes focused on your chest. Suddenly, his hand reached down all the way to your breast until he grasped some of the threads that bound your corset from the front: he pulled with such force that the seams tore and - finally - all the pressure released. Like a newborn child, you began to breathe, and after a few seconds warm tears wet your cheeks.
You were incredibly scared, still in shock. But Taehyung held you close, gently, almost fearful of breaking you like a porcelain doll. You felt his warm breath in the crook of your neck and his scent intoxicated you completely, making you forget everything.
Your breasts were partly exposed, but you could never feel embarrassed in front of him. Not in front of the man who had seen every last detail of you, not in front of the man who had explored every inch of your body.
"Please don't let me go."
Taehyung hummed and continued to hold you in his arms while giving you a concerned look. His eyebrows were furrowed and you knew he needed an explanation as soon as possible. But Taehyung was also aware that you were still unable to give it to him.
"I won't ever let you go. But now I need you to calm down, hm?" He said softly, as if he was talking to a child. His hand reached for yours, grabbing it gently, and bringing it close to his face.
"Do you remember how many moles I have? Do you want to count them?"
Serenity. Taehyung brought serenity, and every word he spoke to you came from the heart. Ever since you knew him, he had always been affectionate and attentive towards you. He knew you better than anyone else.
So, of course you knew the answer to the first question.
You smiled, heart beating fast but not out of fear. With the tip of your index finger you began to trace every spot on Taehyung's face, his skin always soft and flawless.
"One. You touched the small mole on the tip of his nose, near the right nostril.
"Two." Then it was the turn of the mole under the lid of his right eye, the spot you found most distinctive.
"Three." You murmured, as your heart beat faster and faster. You knew very well where the third mole was since it was your favourite. So you brought your face closer to his, so that your noses brushed against each other, before placing a tender kiss on his lips.
Taehyung's lips were never dry, touching them was always pleasant. Kissing him was always pleasant.
"Good girl."
His voice was hoarse as he moistened his lips and bit the lower one. You were so fragile, so exposed before him. All this delicacy, he wanted to destroy it. And Taehyung felt like a lunatic because a rarity like you was only to be protected.
But you provoked mixed feelings in him. Your bare breasts, your smooth skin, your eyes full of innocence and love for him.
Taehyung wanted to break you.
"You look so pretty right now, dove."
He hummed, almost like he had never thought such nonsense until that moment. "You would be even prettier if you told me what happened to you."
Your smile disappeared, and the perfect world that had been created began to crumble. You sat up, hiding your exposed chest with your arms.
"Taehyung, I..."
You spoke quietly, afraid of the reaction the brunette would have had. He wouldn't have blamed you, because he knew how much your position as heir to the throne made you suffer, but knowing Taehyung, he would have stepped back to make it less difficult for you.
The thought of not being able to see him again killed you.
Before you could say anything else, a man you recognised as one of your father's guards burst into the room. Your first reaction was to move away from Taehyung as quickly as possible, but the man seemed upset for a reason worse than that: his breath was short and his face completely pale.
"Princess Y/N, we've been looking everywhere for you!" He spoke without ever taking his eyes off you. That's when Taehyung removed his jacket, placing it on your shoulders.
"What's going on? Is my father looking for me?"
"Princess, I- I'm sorry…" He stammered in a slurred voice. "His Majesty, your Father, he…"
You were silent, waiting for him to finish the sentence as the man beside you loosened his grip on your shoulders.
"He… Has been assassinated, Your Highness."

“This assembly of the Ruling Court is hereby now in session.”
Yoongi sighs deeply, running his fingers through his hair once and cracking his neck to ease the tension building in the back of his head. These meetings only happen four times a year - once per season - and somehow he feels like this might be the hardest part of his whole job.
His eyes skim over each of the kings seated here at the High Table with him, trying to gauge everyone’s moods from their body language. King Lee from the Western Dragonguard, already on his second cup of mead and clearly feeling it. King Park of the Northern Borderlands, shrouded in an air of suspicion, not that that’s anything of interest. With a nickname like the Paranoid Recluse, it’s a wonder the guy even bothers to show up to these meetings at all.
Yoongi’s amused by his own internal monologue, the ghost of a smile crossing his exhausted features. It catches the attention of the man seated directly across from him, Yoongi meeting the eyes of King Kim and finding a subtle grin on his own face. Much closer in age to Yoongi than any of these other crabby old men, Kim (of the Southern Gardens) had treated Yoongi as an equal from the moment he’d stepped into power. The respect is mutual, and Yoongi has felt on more than one occasion that he’s only safe in these gatherings due to the presence of this unspoken ally.
He’s pulled out of his thoughts by a hand on his shoulder. The air around him twists with energy in response to the physical contact, his aura shifting protectively. Wisps of black smoke peek into his peripheral vision as they swarm him, assessing the situation and deciding he’s in no danger before sinking back into his skin comfortably.
He has no cause for worry - he knows there’s only one person in this room that would ever dare to lay a hand on him, King Kim included. As welcoming as Kim may be, Yoongi’s well aware that he’s the odd man out - the black smoke that surrounds him like a cape is only one of many markers of his bloodline.
The hand on his shoulder squeezes once, pulling Yoongi back again. At the imperceptible nod of his head, it slides off of him, but its owner lingers close, a helicopter parent in his own way.
Taehyung can be a bit overbearing at times, but not once since they’ve met has Yoongi made a decision with anything less than full confidence. It’s only because of this that he lets Tae drag him to these damned meetings every season - he knows his advisor would never let him get away with hiding away in his castle like he wants to.
“The first item on the agenda is the economic state of affairs in the Southern Gardens-”
Kim cuts off the small herald at the front of the room with a tired sigh.
“As I have insisted to the Court on numerous occasions, there is no need to question my ability to manage the Five Nations’ economic needs - I’ve only been King for ten damn years.”
Yoongi snorts under his breath - it seems being human isn’t enough to save Kim from the suspicions of the older kings. It doesn’t matter that he’s singlehandedly lifted the economic prosperity of the Five Nations to heights they’d never seen before he’d come into power. Apparently, just being under the age of 50 is reason enough to distrust him.
“Well, with all your partying and grand monetary gestures, it’s not unreasonable to ask how reasonable you can really be with all of our money.”
Yoongi bites back the sigh this time - King Jung wasn’t really in the habit of staying quiet for this long, so he’d hoped that maybe the man had found some kind of inner peace since the last meeting.
Apparently not.
Of all the bothersome men Yoongi is forced to break bread with, Jung is quite possibly the worst of all. And while he’s seen cruel men - while he’s known, far too well, what a cruel king looks like - Jung might just be the cruelest he’d ever encountered.
From the moment Yoongi had taken the throne of the Eastern Seascapes, the Nexus had aligned itself as a direct enemy. The central-most kingdom of the Five Nations, the Nexus had been ruled by Jung Yunho since Yoongi was a kid. And he’d never heard a kind thing said about the man in his whole life. With reason, of course.
A political ally, constantly straddling the line between civility and warfare. The Ruling Court requires each of the Five Nations to remain allies for the sake of their reliance on one another. Each nation thrives in its own way, providing for the entire land in exchange for shared peace and resources.
Naturally, the Eastern Seascapes had always been a wild card. Its borders consist of forest-lined danger, feral demons hiding in its darkness while they wait for unprepared prey to wander into the treeline. And, while the East’s history is filled with attempted conquerings, it had become clear over time that only a demon - a strong one - would be capable of ruling over that land and keeping the danger from invading the other nations. The Min family had stepped in to do the job, an unyielding powerhouse of demonic energy - just the solution the Five Nations had been looking for.
And now, almost 100 years later, Yoongi’s stuck in this god-damned meeting, in the god-damned Nexus.
“By ‘partying and grand monetary gestures’, did you mean my wedding, King Jung? The one that you so willingly attended and enjoyed to its full capacity? Was it in any way different from the countless balls and festivals you feel so inclined to host at a moment’s notice?” Kim’s glare cuts across the table as he speaks, daring Jung to challenge him.
Yoongi’s eyes catch the huff that Jung lets out, and he’s relatively satisfied with the way that Kim had put him in his place. Another reason to like the guy.
Jung snaps his fingers once, his servant squeaking and fumbling with the scroll in his hands.
“U-Uhm… Ah yes, onto the next item of the agenda! The annual military drafting procession and traveling party to the Eastern Seascapes. King Min, if you will…” The servant gestures weakly in Yoongi’s general direction, never meeting his eyes. Most people can’t.
Yoongi shifts in his seat, unsure what to say. He says the same thing every year - that’s why it’s called an annual military drafting. It happens every fucking year.
“His Majesty has made the appropriate preparations and has no significant updates for the Court. The draft will depart from the Nexus in two days’ time and arrive in the Eastern Seascapes in just under a week - there are 12 recruits this year, each of whom will remain in the East for the mandatory 2 years before either returning to their respective kingdoms or extending their service in the East for another term.”
The voice that rings out above Yoongi’s head is deep and even, likely surprising a few of the kings’ own servants. It’s not common to bring an advisor on these trips, so it’s a very foreign concept to the men in this room that Yoongi would have someone with him who’s also capable of speaking for him.
It doesn’t help that Taehyung’s entirely unwavering when he addresses the Court. He leaves no room for question when he speaks, which is a trait that Yoongi both respects and at times despises.
He’s feeling pretty grateful for it right now, especially when Jung only glares and snaps again at his servant. Time to move on to a new item of conversation.
“N-now then, onto discussing King Min’s marriage candidacy…”
Yoongi changes his mind - he’s not feeling grateful anymore.
“I beg your pardon?”
His own voice is foreign to him, low and raspy from underuse. He’s perfectly happy with letting Taehyung handle his affairs, but he just couldn’t contain his surprise, a dark eyebrow lifting in agreement.
The herald’s visibly sweating now, nervous about the tendrils of black that are starting to snake around under the High Table. His voice cracks with anxiety as he elaborates.
“I-it has come to the attention o-of the Court that His Majesty has yet to take a wife… There are concerns about His Majesty’s ruling capabilities given his inability to find a suitable partner for producing an heir-“
Yoongi’s stopped listening, his annoyance spiking as his eyes flick over to Jung. The man is wearing a smug grin as he leans his elbows forward on the table and addresses Yoongi.
“It’s been five years since you’ve taken the throne, young man. It’s time for you to do your kingly duties and find a woman who will give you an heir and solidify your family’s continued alliance with the Nations.”
Yoongi only stares, eyes cold as he calculates the situation. Calculates the threat lingering in the man’s words.
“His Majesty need not take a wife in order to reassure the Court of his alliance to the Nations. Additionally, the lifespan of a demon is generally longer than that of a healthy human, meaning His Majesty should be in no rush to produce an heir-“
“I wasn’t talking to you, peasant.”
Taehyung blinks at the interruption, unfazed by Jung’s attitude. It’s relatively tame, given his temper.
“The Court, and just about anyone with eyes, knows exactly what caused the… untimely passing of this brat’s father.” Jung gestures rudely at Yoongi, who has yet to relocate his glare anywhere else. The man snarls, leaning in again. Yoongi wonders if the table will crack under his weight.
“Or should I say… we know who caused the previous king’s death.”
When Yoongi doesn’t react to the obvious provocation, Jung sighs, throwing himself roughly back into his chair. He’s a man who prides himself on inciting anger and fear in others - Yoongi’s happy to deprive him of that satisfaction.
“We all know you killed your own father in cold blood, boy. We let you take your stolen power and contribute to the peace of these lands, but now it’s been years and we have no way of knowing if you’ll revolt or stay loyal to us. Either you take a wife and produce an heir, or we take your negligence as an act of war-“
“My Lord, if you would have some patience - there’s no need to jump to declarations of war. King Min has shown no malice to the Court or to the people of the Five Nations in any of his time at this High Table. If anything, he’s treated his subjects with much more kindness than his father had ever shown, and he has kept the peace by continuing the military draft and culling the rising dangers of the East.”
Yoongi’s got to admit, he’d never been openly defended by anyone other than Taehyung before. It’s shocking to see Kim jump so readily to his defense. But he can’t say he doesn’t appreciate it. He knows if he’d made these points himself, the other kings would only see him as self-preserving and desperate to argue.
“King Jung has a point here, though. King Min is far too young and too unpredictable to be trusted - how do we know he won’t go rogue?” Lee speaks up from behind his fourth cup of mead, Park nodding along suspiciously. Yoongi feels himself growing exhausted.
“His Majesty is perfectly capable of ruling the East without the interference of the Court - has he demonstrated in the past any evidence of anarchy-“
“I am tired of hearing your voice, you insolent child!“ Jung slams a heavy hand down on the table in rage when Taehyung speaks. Yoongi can feel that they are all startled, but powerful men in a politically charged meeting are nothing more than performers on a stage. None of them reveals an ounce of emotion, not even when the herald starts to cry softly in his own fear.
Jung jabs a fat finger in Taehyung’s direction, disgust written all over his face.
“The Kings at this table will not be addressed by a mere servant such as yourself. Your presence in this room is nothing more than decoration - do you see any of these other men interrupting this conversation?!”
Taehyung’s eyes flit around the room at the servants hovering behind each of their respective kings. No, none of them are speaking - but none of them hold the title he does.
“Answer me, boy.”
Taehyung’s gaze flies once more to Jung, and he’s unable to stop the satisfaction that fills his eyes when he speaks.
“My apologies, Your Majesty, but your instructions were not very clear - I thought you were tired of hearing my voice.”
Yoongi lets his eyes close, sighing softly. Taehyung’s always had an issue holding his tongue.
There’s a cup flying across the room at his snarky response, a sticky arc of mead making its way through the air and onto the table with an unsatisfying splat. Taehyung only leans slightly to the left, the cup soaring past his ear and clattering to the floor behind him.
“You will not talk back to me in my own kingdom! You’re nothing more than scum under my boot- show your king some respect!”
Taehyung watches the sole ruler of the Nexus throw a literal temper tantrum, disappointed but unsurprised. He’s considering making another comment, mostly because he’d always found it fun to taunt the cruelest king in the land, but he finds that he doesn’t have time to say anything at all.
There’s a wall of black smoke flying into his vision, circling the space in front of him viciously. He can’t even see Yoongi anymore, his king disappearing instantly under the swirling cloud.
The air in the room whips around the High Table angrily, knocking over bottles of mead and yanking dangerously at the sheer curtains blocking the windows. The heavy double door doors to the Meeting Room, which had previously sat open, are slammed shut without warning. The men in the room all jump, performances forgotten in the wake of the Demon King.
Yoongi’s body emerges from the swirling globe of darkness, back arched as vines of black aura - his aura - support his weight and set him down. He seems entirely detached from the actions his body takes, gaze clouded and unaware. But he’s always in control.
The moment his feet touch the ground, the whirlwind of chaos in the room is suspended - the air stills, wisps of darkness lingering in the space around him for just a moment - and then it all comes rushing toward him at once. His body absorbs all evidence that his aura had ever been there, seemingly unburdened by the mass of energy flooding into his very soul. All that’s left are eyes that glow a deep, blood red, power humming from within his skin as his gaze locks on the one who’s shown him the deepest form of disrespect today.
Jung can only stare, jaw slack and bottom lip trembling just slightly. The High Table had never seen this display of barely contained power.
Not even from Yoongi’s father.
“Last I checked, My Lord, Kim Taehyung was not registered as a citizen of the Nexus. You should be more careful with your words, and you should certainly take care not to overstep where you are not welcome.”
Yoongi leans forward, planting his hands gingerly on the table. His eyes pass over the rest of the kings, bloody gaze shaking them to their core. He sees Kim brace himself for the eye contact ahead of time, and thinks to himself that it’s really a shame that they could probably never be friends.
It’s fine. They were never the same anyway.
“The Court would do well not to interfere with my personal life in the future. My ability to rule my country and keep peace with the Five Nations is mine and mine alone. A wife will not change this, and an heir will come when I decide to produce one. Until that day comes, I won’t hear of this conversation again.”
He rises, turning his back and heading for the door, but not before pausing for one last comment, his eyes dark and black once more as they make contact one by one with each of the remaining four kings.
“The military draft was designed by the kings of Nations’ past with the purpose of training soldiers for combat by throwing them into the worst possible human condition. The fact that the soldiers who actually make it out of my training alive would be capable of defending each of your kingdoms against man and demon alike is knowledge that’s invaluable to you.”
He hones in now on Jung, the threat clear in his words.
“So I sincerely advise you to think hard before starting a war with me.”
–
“You just love risking your life for a little drama, don’t you?”
Y/n jumps, turning over her shoulder in the direction of the voice. She normally would have noticed him coming down the corridor - his footsteps feel like second nature to her now - but she’d been too invested in what’s going on in the Meeting Room, just around the corner.
“You missed so much! Where have you been?”
Hoseok sighs, shaking his head fondly at her.
“I was hoping you’d stay out of trouble, but obviously you still need my help with that.”
She smiles, waving him toward her and returning to her place in the corridor. There’s a tingling in her fingers and toes, like they’re starting to go numb. It’s a familiar feeling, one that also sits deep in her stomach. It’s the only telltale sign she has to know that her Gift is activated.
That, and the fact that when she turns back to Hoseok, she can tell he hasn’t moved toward her. He hadn’t seen her beckon him to her, which means he can’t see her at all. Her Gift must be getting stronger if he’s starting to struggle seeing more than her presence sometimes.
“You plan on standing in the middle of the corridor like that until the Ruling Court meeting is over?”
Hoseok starts at the mention of the seasonal gathering, moving toward her voice. When he bumps into her, he lowers himself to her height, peeking around the corner with her.
“You know I look really stupid like this, right? If we get caught, it’s going to look like I’m just sneaking around by myself when I don’t have to.”
Y/n snorts under her breath as she tries to refocus her hearing toward the open doors of the Meeting Room.
“That makes one of us.”
Hoseok winces, choosing to ignore the comment in favor of eavesdropping.
“…ssing King Min’s marriage candidacy-”
“I beg your pardon?”
Both Y/n and Hoseok gasp and lean forward, not unlike a couple of gossiping schoolgirls.
“They want the Demon King to get married?!” Y/n manages to remember to whisper in her excitement, Hoseok letting out a breath of disbelief.
“May the Gods pity whatever poor girl has to marry that guy.”
Y/n turns to Hoseok’s voice, interest piqued.
“I mean, is he hot?”
He shoots her an incredulous glance.
“The Court wants to force some random girl to marry the literal king of demons and produce an heir with him, and you want to know if he’s hot?”
There’s a moment of silence, one where Y/n doesn’t say a word, and Hoseok has his answer. He sighs, nodding.
“… I’d say he’s an 8. Probably a 9 if he’d just learn to smile.”
Y/n grins widely, pleased with his response.
“Then I’m sure he’ll have no problem… reproducing.” She snickers when Hoseok shoves her, a noise of disgust leaving him.
He’s about to make a comment about how crude she is, but there’s a heavy slam of a hand on wood and the voice of Jung Yunho flowing out into the hall.
“I am tired of hearing your voice, you insolent child!”
They both jump, all too familiar with their father’s temper. It fills them with equal amounts of anxiety, and all Hoseok can do is reach for his sister’s hand, squeezing hard when he finds it.
“I hope he’s not talking to the Demon King like that - that dude could probably rip Father apart if he wanted to.” Y/n pauses after saying that, letting the idea sink in. “Hm. Maybe that’s for the best.”
Hoseok snorts, shaking his head at her commentary.
“Oh, how I wish that was a joke.”
Y/n turns to Hoseok, asking the question that’s been on her mind for weeks now - months, if she’s honest.
“Are you still going to join the draft?”
He doesn’t respond, the sound of his breathing even as he considers her question. She continues, suddenly feeling more anxious than before.
“Once Father realizes you’ve left without telling him… You’ll never know peace in this castle when you return, Hobi-”
“You say that like I’ve ever known peace to begin with. That man’s wanted me dead since the moment we were born.” His voice is tense, like this has been sitting in his mind for as long as he can remember. “The only thing I’m worried about is you. I feel like I’m the only person keeping him from-”
“If he wants to kill me, he’ll have to find me first.” Y/n nudges him gently, hoping to make him laugh. “I’ve been told I’m good at hiding.”
A bark of laughter leaves him, and he’s quick to cover his mouth with a hand. The sound warms her heart. She’s not sure what she’s going to do without him. She would never tell him, but once he’s gone… She’s not really sure what will happen to her-
The double doors to the Meeting Room slam shut suddenly, the force of it so intense that a gust of wind is sent down both ends of the corridor. Y/n can’t help the scream that leaves her, the tingling feeling leaving her body as her control over her Gift comes crashing down, leaving her visible and vulnerable.
Hoseok’s quick to rip his cloak off his shoulders and throw it over her, acting fast despite feeling just as startled. The feeling of warm fabric covering her head and obscuring her face brings Y/n to the realization that Hoseok can see her again, and she’s fast to fix it.
Willing her body to hide her from the world, she feels those pins and needles poking at her fingertips, spreading quickly to the rest of her body and swirling calmly in her tummy. When Hoseok slides the cloak off of her, she knows she’s safe.
“You need to get better reaction control over that - if someone sees you-”
“I know what will happen if someone sees me, Hobi - You tell me every day.”
Hoseok flinches at the hissed response, forcing himself not to overthink it. She’s not upset with him, she’s upset with the situation and frustrated that she got flustered and let her Gift come down-
At least, that’s what he’s been telling himself to avoid the guilt that gnaws at him every night. It’s gotten him this far.
After a moment of deep breaths, Y/n reaches for Hoseok, curling her fingers around his sleeve when she finds it, her small tug full of apology. He feels strangely comforted by the knowledge that they both think about their situation more than they’d ever admit.
“Let’s just go see what’s going on - I can’t hear through those doors.”
Hoseok hums in agreement, letting her lead him around the corner and toward the Meeting Room.
The corridor unfolds in front of her in billowing clouds, wisps of architecture coming to her senses until she can make out where everything is. Her map of a space isn’t always correct, but she’s lived in and snuck around these halls long enough to generally know who or what might be in her path. There’s no one here but them.
Hoseok’s noticing the same. There would normally be guards stationed out here, but they must have reacted to something going on inside, because he can feel that the two men are standing just past the entryway.
He and Y/n stand at the doors, ears close to the wood in order to hear past it. There’s a muffled voice traveling through large keyhole, and Y/n crouches to press her ear to it.
“…ning alive would be capable of defending each of your kingdoms against man and demon alike is invaluable to you.”
Y/n waves a hand behind her until she catches Hoseok’s leg, never moving from her place. He grumbles at the contact.
“You don’t have to smack me, I can hear them, too.”
“…think hard before starting a war with me.”
Y/n gasps, smacking Hoseok’s leg several more times. He simply lets it happen.
“Father’s threatening to start a war! With the Demon King!”
For a moment, Hoseok wonders if they really both are 24 years old, or if maybe he’s actually the older brother. Unfortunately, all he can boast about is a few measly minutes of authority over her-
There’s a harsh tug in the back of his brain, one that pulls his attention into the room and zeroes in on two pairs of shoes heading quietly toward the door.
He hisses under his breath, reaching down and grabbing Y/n by the shoulders. She makes a noise of discontent, but he’s already yanking her to her feet and pushing her forward and away from the door. She stumbles over to the wall and shrinks into the shadows there.
“Someone’s coming-”
The doors are pulled open by each of the guards, just in time for Hoseok to spin around and step away from the wall, fully aware that he needs to look like he hasn’t been hovering outside this whole time.
Min Yoongi is stepping out of the room and heading down the corridor, shoulders tense as a hooded man follows behind, whispering quietly to him. Hoseok watches as the king only shakes his head once, muttering “Your mouth is going to get you killed one day-”
And then the cloaked man is glancing over his shoulder, alerted to the fact that they’re not alone. Hoseok has no idea how he could have been noticed when he hasn’t made a sound.
The man stops short, turning fully toward Hoseok and lowering his hood. Hoseok sees then that he’s faced with Kim Taehyung, the king’s Royal Advisor.
Somehow, he’d have preferred meeting the eyes of the Demon King himself.
“Prince Jung, what a lovely surprise.”
Taehyung bows low, lowering his gaze in respect. Yoongi turns at the realization that Tae’s no longer behind him, and he sees that Jung’s only son is standing before him - the heir to the Nexus.
Yoongi steps up just as Tae is lifting from his bow.
“Prince Jung. I believe we’ve only met in passing.”
Hoseok feels the king’s gaze pierce right to his soul, a strand of fear running deep down his spine. It’s not the same kind of anxiety he feels around his father, but the blood red rubies embedded in the Demon King’s crown are reminding him of his own mortality in ways his father never has.
He bends at the waist, setting a foot behind him and a hand on his chest as he bows deeply, years of training in royal manners kickstarting to get him through this conversation. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Y/n curtsying low as well, and he thinks briefly that maybe she doesn’t remember that she’s invisible.
But he would never say it to her - he would never take this moment of normalcy away from her. One where everyone knows who she is.
Princess Jung Y/n, the Second Heir to the Nexus.
“My Lord. It’s an honor to officially make your acquaintance.” Hoseok stands tall as he addresses the king, eyes nervous but unwavering from the shorter man. He refuses to crack, even with wisps of demon energy floating around the stone floor, searching for something - someone - to latch onto.
Yoongi’s impressed by the show of bravery.
“You’ll have to forgive me, my Lord-” Taehyung cuts easily through the tension, a charming smile tugging at his lips. His gaze is warm and light, running over the prince’s features kindly.
Hoseok has never felt more unsafe.
“- It seems I’ve put your father in a rather… sour mood. Hopefully, I haven’t ruined the day yet.”
Hoseok feels the smile stretch over his lips, polite but ingenuine.
“Oh, that yelling I heard on my way over? It’s of no concern, Sir Kim. Nothing out of the ordinary for a Friday morning.”
Taehyung’s left eyebrow quirks with interest, and Hoseok has to force himself to remain neutral. How the hell had this guy managed to pull a joke like that out of him?
Swallowing hard, Hoseok cuts his gaze back to the King, an otherwise silent observer of their interaction. But he finds that Yoongi’s not paying attention to their painfully awkward encounter.
His gaze is hardened with caution, eyes trained on a spot just over Hoseok’s shoulder.
It happens to be the same spot where Hoseok knows Y/n is standing, the warmth of her presence pressing into his back like a reminder of what he’d be leaving behind soon enough.
His heart thumps hard in his chest at the thought that Yoongi can see her, that lingering strand of fear tightening in a coil around his spine. He watches with growing horror as his own quickening pulse draws Yoongi’s attention back to him, the Demon King’s eyes flitting to the spot over Hoseok’s heart before moving up to meet his terrified gaze.
Yoongi’s expression evens out when he sees how he’s affecting the Crown Prince. He thought he’d seen a glimpse of something different about Jung Hoseok, something of interest. But he can see now that the prince is no different from anyone else.
Disappointing, to say the least.
“It was nice to officially meet you, Prince Jung. I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other sometime in the future.” Yoongi doesn’t even bother with a goodbye, turning on his heel and starting back toward the room he and Taehyung had been assigned for their stay. He can hear his advisor making pleasantries before taking his own leave.
“What an honor to see you again, my Lord. The East looks forward to your arrival next week.”
Yoongi stops short at the end of the corridor, just as Taehyung’s quiet footsteps pick up their pace in his direction.
What the hell did he just say?
–
“Y/n, please promise me that you will stay out of trouble while I’m gone. Please.”
Y/n can feel her brother’s hands trembling against her skin as he grips her shoulders. She can’t tell if he’s more scared for her or for himself. She supposes it’s all the same.
“I promise, Hoseok. You won’t have to worry about me here, I swear it.” And she does, she does swear it. Because she doesn’t plan on staying here at all.
After eavesdropping on the council meeting two days ago, she’d been thinking quite hard about what she and her brother had discovered. That her father is threatening war if the Demon King doesn’t find a wife soon.
Maybe it’s not her best idea. But that’s exactly why she hasn’t said a word to Hoseok. He would have no qualms about tying her to the desk chair in her room if he knew what she was planning.
Hoseok breathes out a deep sigh, staring out the window in her room at the moon hanging low over them. There’s so much racing through his mind right now. How will his father react when he realizes Hoseok is gone? Will he send a troop for him, a public display of concern for his son? Or will it be a single assassin, the chance to finally dispose of his only son so tempting? Will he take it out on Y/n, like he’s done so often in the past? Should Hoseok even go anymore?
He has no idea what the fuck he’s doing. But if joining the draft is the best way to guarantee he’d even survive another two years, and that he’d return to the Nexus with the battle training to finally take down his father… How could he pass up the opportunity?
Hoseok’s eyes trace out his sister’s features once more, the thought that he’d never see her again plaguing every drop of hope in his body right now. He feels like he needs to burn her into his memory… just in case-
“Hobi…”
His attention snaps to her eyes, unseeing yet so aware of him. So aware of every thought that crosses his mind, every feeling that fills his blood.
“Do you trust me?”
Hoseok flinches at the question - of course he trusts her. She’s the only person in the whole world that he trusts. But she’s not really asking if he can confide in her.
She’s asking if he believes in her.
If he’s honest… he’s never given either of them the chance to find out the answer to that question. He’d spent his whole life at her side, keeping her safe. This is the first time they’d ever be apart.
He hates himself for sheltering her like that. Hates that he’d never let him himself just trust her.
Hates that this is all coming into the light now, when they’re about to say goodbye for the first time in their lives. When they might never see each other again.
So he draws up every ounce of courage that he has - even more than it had taken for him to pick up a pen and sign his life away on that stupid Draft form - and breathes as much of the truth as he can into his response. Because he’s never been able to lie to her, and he’s not about to start now.
“I trust you.”
–
Y/n listens to Hoseok’s fading footsteps, maps them onto the image that she’s created of the corridor in front of her room. In this secluded corner of the palace, there’s no concern that anyone would catch them together. No one had ever bothered to come near her room, save for the servant designated to bring her meals.
She can see in those quiet footsteps that Hoseok is sticking to the shadows, a fugitive in his own home. He’ll escape from the castle walls, just before 4am, and join the draft’s traveling party as it’s preparing to leave. And then he’ll be free.
She doesn’t blame him - she could never blame him. Not when he scolds her for slipping out of her room, against their father’s direct orders. Not when he has to pretend she doesn’t exist in front of others, even when she’s hovering invisibly at his side.
Not when he’d hesitated just a moment ago to tell her he trusted her, because they both know that he’d been trying to convince himself that he does.
They’d both been dealt the shittiest of hands in life, and they were both trying to make the best of it. If the best of it is the simple goal of staying alive despite their father’s every intention, then so be it. If Hoseok needed to flee his own kingdom by moonlight in order to give himself a chance at that goal, then so be it.
But she’d be damned if the next he hears of her is through raven-sent news of her untimely death. He’s going to be impossibly angry with her when he discovers her plan - he might never forgive her. But once their father realizes he’s missing - that he’s defected to the Draft - she’d be even more unsafe than she’d ever been. She’d been dead within the week.
That’s why she lets that familiar pins-and-needles feeling envelop her body, why she kicks her shoes off into her room and closes the door softly behind her, bare feet padding gently after her brother before she loses his footsteps. Why she stops short but never gives in to the guilt crushing her heart when Hoseok pauses just outside the castle walls and turns back, likely confused as to why he can still feel her presence all the way out here. Why she tightens her muscles and wills herself to fade from his radar, only releasing the breath caught in her throat when she hears him start up again, making his way into the forest and through the trees until he reaches the clearing not too far ahead.
She almost loses him at one point. She’d never been this far outside the walls, and she has no idea what the landscape around her should look like. She can only use his footsteps to guide her, the quiet pulses of his energy leaking into the earth and bouncing off of nearby trees, illuminating her path in a quickly fading record of her brother’s every move.
Then the treeline relents, and she’s soon surrounded by open nothingness. Hoseok’s footsteps bounce off of nothing here, swallowed by the grass and removing him from her senses faster than she’s ready for. It’s only the distant chatter and shifting in front of her that tells her she’s made it to the clearing.
There are men loading resources and bags into a wagon, if she’s making the bulky shape out in front of her correctly. The echoes of the voices in the air bounce off of the white, tarped carriage, enough that she’s able to make its structure out with a decent degree of accuracy.
Now to figure out where to hide for the journey to the East…
She loses Hoseok, his voice melting into others around him as he joins the party. She takes a hesitant step forward, hears the horse driver calling out to the group that they’d better settle into the wagon in the next few moments, or he’d leave them behind.
How is she supposed to go unnoticed in a wagon full of people?
Thinking quickly, she makes a wide arc around the wagon, ears ringing as she listens for any movement in her immediate area. She counts the sets of feet climbing into the carriage as she moves quietly to the front.
10… 11… 12… and the driver-
The man is approaching the open front of the wagon on the other side, so she scuttles toward the passenger seat, satisfied that the drafted men are all seated in the back. She can even hear some of them awkwardly addressing her brother, can hear Hoseok laughing uncomfortably as he tells them to just treat him like any other man, that they’ll be together for 2 years and he has no interest in being treated like a prince.
She has to time this correctly - the wagon seems rickety, like any movement would be impossible not to notice. Her hands and feet are in pain, the tingling of her Gift stinging her every move. But she can’t give up now - she’s so close.
When she hears the driver lift a foot off the grass - the most miniscule of sounds under the deep chatter happening in the back - she raises her own, mirroring the man’s every move down to the moment he lifts his weight off of the ground and throws it carelessly into his well-worn seat. If he notices the counterbalancing of her own weight on the other side, he doesn’t pay it a bit of attention.
She’d made it.

“You better fucking hope Jung’s spawn doesn’t cause trouble in the next two years.” Yoongi’s low growl sounds foreign even to himself - being angry with Taehyung is new for him.
But he can’t help it. All week he’d been on edge, snapping at his advisor over the smallest things. He knows that Taehyung hadn’t technically done anything wrong by not giving him the roster for this year’s Draft cohort. He’d never done it in the past, and things had gone fine.
This year is different, though. Ever since the assembly and Jung’s thinly veiled threats, Yoongi had tightened security on his own kingdom, done a personal evaluation of all staff within his walls, and -
“You know, taking your anger out on me every time we meet hasn’t made for very productive planning sessions.”
-apparently let his rage overwhelm him any time his objectively innocent advisor had stepped foot in his throne room.
“You didn’t tell me Jung Hoseok was part of the Draft. Don’t you think that information would have been important to know, even before that stupid fucking assembly meeting?”
He can see Tae shrug noncommittally beside him.
“What I didn’t think was that you wouldn’t trust me to handle it, but I see we’re both learning new things about each other this week.”
Yoongi’s aura whips out angrily around him, coming dangerously close to his advisor’s face.
“Kim Taehyung, I swear to you-”
“Look alive, My Lord - they’re coming.”
Yoongi’s tempted to let his aura make contact this time, but he tucks Taehyung’s attitude into the back of his mind for later. He may not be the most pleasant of kings to pass through the Five Nations, but he’s not cruel, and he’s not violent. He’s not his father.
There’s a familiar wagon passing through the gates now, unharmed by the forest on its journey. Every year, on this exact date, Yoongi sends only his best to keep the demons in the forest under control for the time it takes to drop off the Draft. There hadn’t been a single year since he’d taken the throne that a trainee had been harmed or killed before entering the gates of his kingdom. Not that the same could be said for his father’s reign.
“Let’s call it… their first test. If they can’t make it to the gates alive, they’re not even worth training.”
Yoongi shakes his head quickly, squashing the nightmare of that malicious grin. Taehyung shifts protectively beside him, anyway - of course he’d noticed.
But although his advisor raises a hand, prepared to lay it on Yoongi’s shoulder and ease his king of his emotional burdens, Taehyung pauses. Lowers his arm. Stands tall and tucks his hands into his sleeves in front of him.
It almost makes Yoongi feel bad for building a wall between them this week.
Before he can think on it, though, Tae is nodding toward the wagon of trainees unloading their belongings to the cobblestone ground in the courtyard of the Eastern Seascapes. Yoongi watches them each turn slowly, taking in the castle in their own time. Watches their mixed expressions of fear and awe, none of them ever having glimpsed the palace lying deep in the forest and at the edge of the world. Watches as they each come to recognize the king and his advisor, statues waiting for them at the top of stairs.
One by one, they scramble forward toward Yoongi, stopping at the base of the steps and taking a knee, bowing to Yoongi almost obnoxiously. Taehyung mumbles in his ear the whole time, stating the names and families of each of these trainees. He stops talking when Jung Hoseok approaches and models after his new brothers-in-arms. There’s no introduction necessary for the son of Yoongi’s enemy.
After a nod of thanks toward the wagon driver - an older gentleman who’d seen far too much of Yoongi’s father’s “first test” and who is apparently therefore a big fan of Yoongi’s more humane approaches - Yoongi steps forward and takes a breath.
“Welcome to the Eastern Seascapes, trainees. In case one of you somehow missed the shocking news that traveled the Five Nations after my father’s death some years ago, my name is Min Yoongi. I am the ruler of this land, keeper of the peace between demon and humankind, and - probably unfortunately, in your eyes - your ward for the next 24 months. Congratulations.”
He watches as the 12 men in front of him shift uncomfortably below him, unsure what they should have expected from the Demon King. Most likely, it wasn’t the dry, detached man addressing them.
“Even more unfortunately for you, you won’t be dealing with me on a regular basis apart from tonight’s banquet. You will be seeing much more of my advisor here, and, even more than that - your General.”
The man in question materializes at Yoongi’s left side as if from nothingness. If he hadn’t known any better, Yoongi might have thought his Five-Star General was of demon blood. Somehow, it’s more disconcerting that he’s entirely human.
Normally, he’d feel a streak of pride course through him at the way his General had transformed into nothing short of a nightmare in just under 5 years, but he’s not really in the mood for Jungkook’s theatrics today.
The younger man descends the steps silently as the 12 men clamber to their feet in slight panic. He stands before the first trainee for just long enough that the newbie shrinks under his gaze. Jungkook moves quietly, his face never changing.
When he arrives at the end of the line, he stops, staring into the eyes of Jung Hoseok. The man, a few years his senior - as most of these men are - is just an inch or two shorter than him, but the Prince seems determined not to let the difference push him into submission. Hoseok stands tall, unwavering as he faces the Demon King’s General.
He’d endured 24 years of fear and anxiety. No one would ever bully him again. Especially not some brat who’s got a couple centimeters on him.
Jungkook sees it in his eyes - that resistance - and can’t help the twitch of a grin pulling at his lips.
This should be fun.
Before he can open his mouth and address them, though, his king’s voice is cutting through the cold morning air.
“Where’s the thirteenth trainee?”
Jungkook frowns, turning back to face Yoongi. Taehyung’s expression is no different, confused by the man’s question. But Yoongi’s not paying attention to either of them, his eyes raking in irritation over the 12 trainees. There’s a dangerous glint in his glare that sends a shiver down their spines.
“I was told there were only 12.” His voice is terse, and he looks at Taehyung for explanation, his annoyance growing when he sees that Tae has no clue what he’s talking about.
“There are only 12, My Lo-”
“Shut up.”
Both Tae and Jungkook blink in surprise - Yoongi’s never like this, regardless of his dour disposition this week.
The king’s head only tilts in the direction of the wagon, like he’s catching the sound of something over the thundering heartbeats of the trainees below him.
He moves silently down the steps, and Jungkook doesn’t even bother to snap at his new soldiers to stand tall as they literally trip over their own feet to get out of Yoongi’s way.
Yoongi stalks toward the wagon, catching the flash of fear in the driver’s eyes and waving him off with a furrow of his brow. There goes that previously built trust.
But it doesn’t matter. He can feel someone else here. It’s the same feeling he’d had just last week after the assembly, when he and Tae had been talking to Jung Hoseok.
The feeling that there’s someone hiding away, desperate not to be caught-
There.
He makes his way around the front of the carriage, ignoring the fearful whinny of the horses when they spot him, and stops in his tracks.
He can see it. That glimmer of energy, shifting in the air, so unnoticeable to anyone who isn’t looking. The longer he looks, the more the energy takes shape, forming into a girl he’d only seen once before.
The girl that had been hovering over Hoseok’s shoulder that day.
With a twitch of an eyebrow, Yoongi wills his aura to sink beneath his feet, muffling his footsteps into nothingness. The moment it does, the girl stands tall, tilting her head in his direction and turning when she can’t find him.
He approaches her like that, watching her turn in her spot, her movements becoming restless and fearful, like she’d lost track of him and couldn’t place him anymore. She even looks right at him, but she doesn’t pause, only turning away so she can inch forward toward the back of the wagon.
The moment she starts to pass the barrier of the white tarp into the open courtyard, Yoongi’s aura is lashing out, one dark tendril wrapping around her ankle.
The girl screams as she falls, her voice piercing the tense silence beyond the carriage and sending the men into a frenzy. But Yoongi doesn’t mind them, his eyes never leaving her.
Another arm of darkness snaps out toward her, wrapping tightly around her mouth as the original snakes its way up her body, constricting her in its grasp until she’d bound with no escape.
Her cloak - whatever it is - comes down then in her panic, and she’s fully visible to Yoongi for the first time. Her eyes are wide, full of terror, and she’s grasping desperately at the tentacle of his aura that’s all but gagging her. Yoongi doesn’t even bother to think about the fact that she still hasn’t looked at him, fixating on her features and noting with growing rage that she looks a lot like Jung Yunho’s only child.
What the fuck?
Yoongi draws the girl up off the ground and toward him, and, in his rage, throws her back against the tarp of the wagon. She lets out another muffled shriek, Yoongi’s voice cutting hers short.
“Who are you?! Who sent you?!”
She only shakes her head back and forth desperately, eyes screwed shut as she continues to scream. With a growl, he peels her away from the tarp and slams her back into it. There are tears streaming down her face now.
“I’m not going to ask you again-”
“My Lord.”
Taehyung is standing next to him now, having come around the back of the carriage to interfere in whatever’s happening. His voice is clipped, like he’s actually angry with Yoongi.
“True to my title, I’m going to have to advise you to put this poor woman down, unless you want your new subjects to form misinformed opinions about what kind of man you are.”
Yoongi only snaps his head over to his advisor, his glare burning that deep, blood red Taehyung’s grown used to seeing lately.
“I want you to look at this girl, Taehyung. Look at her, and tell me what you see.”
Only at the direct order does Taehyung sigh and tilt his gaze in the woman’s direction. He stares for a moment, taking in her tear-streaked face. And then he frowns, his brows coming together as he looks more closely at her.
Taking just a step back so he can see into the courtyard full of terrified trainees, Tae meets the eyes of Jung Hoseok, whose gaze morphs from fear into alarm when he realizes he’s being studied.
Taehyung mumbles under his breath then, Yoongi barely catching the words.
“Well would you look at that… Twins.”
Ignoring Yoongi’s echoed “Twins?!” of shock, Tae knows Hoseok was able to read his lips all the way across the courtyard because the Prince’s eyes go wide with horror, the blood draining from his face. His crippling fear crashes into Taehyung’s senses full force, the advisor stitching this new piece of information into the cloth that is the Jung family.
He only squints at the man in response, whispering a single word to Yoongi that’s really meant for Hoseok.
“Twins.”
Tae watches Hoseok carefully as Yoongi steps out from behind the carriage, the aura-bound prisoner floating in the air behind the king as he starts his rampage back to the castle. He’s wholly unsurprised when Hoseok lurches forward at the sight of the girl, a scream ripping from his throat.
“No!”
Hoseok pushes past the other trainees and starts to charge the king, but he’s quickly overtaken by Jungkook, who throws himself forward and pins him easily to the ground, yanking the Prince’s arms back behind his back. It doesn’t stop Hoseok from screaming with all of his might, his throat aching at the force.
“Y/n! You promised me! You promised me you would be safe-”
The other trainees all start whispering to each other, staring at the girl as she’s carried, sobbing and struggling against the tendrils of darkness, past her brother. Yoongi only pauses over Hoseok’s detained form for a brief moment, not even sparing the crazed man a glance as he speaks.
“Welcome to the Eastern Seascapes, Prince Jung. I’ll see to it that your sister is well cared for.”
Hoseok can only watch, horrified, as the Demon King carries his entire life through the massive double doors and into the castle.
I’m never going to see her again.

A sherbet colored sky, kissed with endless puffs of white cotton went for as far as the eye could see. Below, the land a mix of forest greens, sandy browns and deep greys were cracked with bottomless shades of blue. The air was crisp; it called to mind the bite of a fresh picked apple on warmer spring days. Light, weightless, disconnected from the turmoil left behind in a land a nation away. A given name, a title that held more power than any amount of gold sat coldly in a chest that heart was beating faster than the wings of a hummingbird. This was for the good of the people, the good of the nations; two different worlds coming together as one.
Beautiful ruby red and white klei eagles flew in a tight formation around a giant cape teal duck, its wings were a glossy muted grey with browner ones on its back. A spot of bright yellow hovered in the air, one single pale yellow eye peered into the modified gama attached securely to the back of the duck. The purple curtains were pinned down to keep the cool air from freezing the occupant tucked away inside. As the sun graced the sky with its warmth and bright light, a demure and soft silhouette was cast against the light fabric. The Citron Crane’s voice sang and echoed across the sky as the Min Empire’s shoreline came into view. Below on the coast, a small envoy of royal guards and emissaries waited with bated breath as the large cape teal, the size of four oxen, descended from the sky and sank into the water. The eagles formed a tighter barrier around the duck as the Citron Crane flew ahead while the duck paddled in the water towards the shoreline.
The crane stood at the water’s edge, its soft yellow wings reflected off the water’s surface before it shifted silently. A large man with rich oakwood skin and yellow topaz eyes, stood before the Min Empire’s envoy. His hair was twisted tightly in neat ropes of thick braids with gold and yellow feathers clipped to a few to show his high position in the Escistan’s royal guard. His robes were vibrant, fiery red and yellow, stitched together by careful hands. A large golden medellin rested in the center of his chest, a hamerkop with a bolt of lightning behind it carved into the metal, the royal sigil of Escistan. The head of the Min Emperor's royal guard stepped forward and hit his chest with a closed fist, a common greeting among soldiers.
“The Min Empire welcomes you with open arms.” The man had fair skin, scares littering his hands and face. His outfit was muted grey, cream, blue and peach while his brown hair was pulled into a topknot. “I am Daehyun. General of the royal guard. I will take you and your company to the palace.”
“I am Aga, second in command of the Escistan army -” Aga crossed his arms over his chest and bowed his head. “-the Princess looks forward to her audience with his Majesty.”
Aga turned his attention to the duck behind him as its webbed feet slapped against the ground. The eagles around the duck shifted and in their place stood six large men dressed in the same armor as Aga without the golden medellin around their necks.
“Bese kò ou.” Aga commanded over his shoulder to the duck.
The cape teal duck settled on the stony beach and four members of Daehyun’s group stepped forward to lower the gama from the duck’s back. Aga held his hand out with his palm facing outward and the small group stopped.
“No need.”
At his words, all heads tilted upward towards the sky and Daehyun was shocked to see a small formation of large brown birds still in the sky. The birds flew towards the ground, openbill storks, and shifted easily into servants all dressed in different shades of tans and yellows. Aga nodded his head and four servants walked over to the cape teal. Aga watched as they easily untied the gama and situated it over their shoulders without the Princess being jostled too much.
“Ale lakay.”
Aga waved his hand towards the sky and the duck flew away with a soft quack that whistled. He reached into the brown pouch on his hip and pulled out a small, smooth, round bead, the size of a walnut and the color of fallen snow. Daehyun watched as Aga threw the bead to the ground and it split in half with a small spark. In its place, between the broken halves a black Vlaamperd horse stood strong and unphased.
“A Charoite bead? I’ve never seen one in person.”
“Many in our lands,” Aga pulled himself onto the horse's back and motioned for his company to do the same. The members in Aga’s party pulled a Charoite bead from around their necks and threw it to the ground. Ten Vlaamperd horses stood in place and waited as their riders jumped onto their backs. Aga fell into Daehyun’s formation with the rest of his own people. He kept his eyes on the Princess’ gama as he passed and took his place at the front of the formation. “Lead the way.”
The journey to the palace was silent, the steady clip clop of horse hooves acted as a cadence. The path to the capital was filled with wide planes of grass, wheat and wildflowers. Farmland stretched on for miles, different crops created a colorful backdrop as the empire came into view. Women and men alike stopped their daily chores as the procession passed by. The outskirts of the capital were well taken care of. The people weren’t dressed in the finest of robes but they weren’t dirty or covered in rags. From his place above the ground, Aga took notice of a large box that many of the younger villagers sat in. It seemed to hold sand from the beach for them to play in.
Horns and drums signaled their arrival as they passed the gates to enter the capital and the townsfolk were lined up on the side of the marketplace, pushing each other to get a better glimpse of the passing procession. A large golden dragon, the sigil of the Min Empire, embroidered on the banners of the procession gained everyone’s attention. Deep blues, vibrant purples and radiant golds dazzled the common folk as a single gamma was carried past by four strongly built men, not from this region of the world. They were outsiders, their dark skin tones a stark difference to the lightly tanned faces shielding them. They were honored guests being led to the palace by the Emperor’s very own royal guards.
Aga rode with a purpose and once he passed through the town, he let himself breathe properly for a moment. Once at the palace gates, the procession came to a smooth halt and Daehyun announced the arrival of their foreign guests. As the gates opened music started to play and the procession continued to march into the palace’s open courtyard.
The stonework was inviting as it led towards the steps of the emperor’s throne room where he sat proud with his wife - the empress - and his only son, the crowned prince by his side in front of him. As drums banged out a traditional greeting as the procession came to a full stop in front of the steps and Aga unmounted from his horse.
The gamma was lowered to the ground and Aga walked over as the curtain was pulled back. From his seat at the front of the throne, the crowned prince, Yoongi, watched as the man held out his hand. A breeze blew through the palace, freshly fallen dogwood petals caught in the current. As a small dark hand, rich and smooth like the brown obsidian gems in the north, poked out from the gamma, Yoongi’s dragon growled low in his chest. Princess Keena emerged from the carrier and the petals seemingly danced around her. Yoongi couldn’t get a good look at the young princess, for her face was covered by a bold orange veil that only showed her warm brown eyes, lined in thick charcoal. She was stunning and Prince Yoongi couldn’t look away.
As the guard led the Princess up the steps, the rest of the procession followed before the head attendant announced the Princess’ arrival at last. Her royal garb was bright, brighter than any sunrise Prince Yoongi remembered seeing. The clothing was different, two main articles, a skirt and blouse joined together by short and long pieces of fabric wrapped at the Princess’ waist while a large strip of woven fabric rested across her left shoulder. A matching headdress sat on the Princess’s head; braided fabric twisted and piled into a crown with the veil attached neatly.
Princess Keena removed her hand from the guard; golden bangles and rings caught the light as she crossed her arms over her chest with her hands on opposite shoulders before she offered an eighty-degree bow, her eyes downcast to the floor. Beside her, the guard dropped to one knee and crossed his arms over his chest as well, lowering his head.
“The nation of Escistan gives thanks to the Min Empire. May the sun grant you many bright days ahead.”
The princess raised to her full height and the guard behind her did the same before he rolled his shoulders. A small group of emissaries came forth, carrying large chests filled with a cornucopia of rare goods from the foreign nation. One by one the chests were opened before the royal family and the Princess looked on with a smile hidden behind her veil as the Emperor's piercing copper eyes shined brightly.
“My father sends well wishes and hope for endless joys in the days to come.” Princess Keena, motioned to the large man beside her, “- Aga, is my father’s testament to our nation's strength. He will teach your army the way of our warriors.”
The Emperor smiled, a single dimple sunk deep into his skin. He clapped his hands, covered in small jade and pearl colored scales, as he looked at the gifts before him, his blood red robes swayed around his wrists.
“Your tributes are as beautiful as they are rare. I hope our alliance with Escistan will only grow stronger during your stay, Princess Keena. The Min Empire welcomes you with open arms!”
Emperor Min stood from his seat, and everyone dropped to a bow while the Princess lowered her head, with her hands clasped in front of her. Emperor Min offered his hand to his wife and helped her stand before he turned his attention to the Princess again with an unknown light in his eyes.
“The Empress has hand selected your attendants; they will help you settle into your chambers at once. We shall hold a banquet in your honor tonight and welcome you once again to the Min Empire!”
The Emperor’s eyes crinkled at the corners as he stared at the princess, and he ran his tongue over the sharp fangs in his mouth.
“Your attendants will be shown to their quarters and will teach your new hands the customs of your nation. Do you have any requests for me?”
“Thank you for thinking of my comfort, your Majesty. I have no requests.”
Satisfied with the Princess’ response, the Emperor exited the throne room with the Empress on his arm. Prince Yoongi stood to his full height and walked down the set of steps before he stopped in front of the Princess. Prince Yoongi kept his face neutral as he offered his arm to the Princess.
“Allow me to show you the way to your chambers, Princess?”
Princess Keena bit her lip to keep from laughing at Yoongi. He was much more serious than she thought he would be. She nodded her head once and placed her hand on the Prince’s forearm, the fabric of his red gangsapo the only thing that kept their skin from touching. The remaining members of court bowed deeply as the Prince and Princess exited the throne room and Aga stayed six steps behind the pair. Hoseok, Prince Yoongi’s personal guard fell in step beside him and the two exchanged a simple nod in greeting.
“Did you have a pleasant time during your travels?” Prince Yoongi stared straight ahead as he spoke and the Princess thought about her trip. It was pleasant enough, no one had been hurt or gotten sick.
“It was a long but safe journey, my Prince.”
Yoongi’s dragon coiled tightly around his heart when his title rolled off the Princess’ tongue. It was a pleasing sound. Yoongi nodded his head and spoke no more as the pair walked down long corridors that turned every which way. Guards, servants and council alike all bowed low as they passed. Some looked at the Princess for longer than was deemed polite and Hoseok kept a running checklist in his mind to report on later.
The Princess took the chance to glance at Yoongi’s profile. He was not what the Princess expected. The words he shared with her in his letters were the rawest form of his soul. He was rose petal soft and fruit with honey sweet but there in front of her, Prince Yoongi had a firm jawline enhanced by patches of black scales. His eyebrows were a dark contrast to his blond hair and the Princess wondered if that was a trait given to everyone or just dragons. What she had imagined to be dark brown irises were the blackest pits of tar that reflected the sun and shined just right behind small triangular eyes. Prince Yoongi was jagged, rough around the edges, but his written words told the Princess of a much softer, warm summer days side to him.
“Here are your personal chambers, Princess.” Yoongi stopped in front of two armed guards. They stepped to the side to show a set of large red oak doors with a blackthorn tree in the center of a beautiful hand carved and painted black dragon. “I hope you find everything to your liking. Please, do not hesitate to ask for anything during your stay.”
“Thank you, your Highness.”
The Prince fought the muscle on his face. He didn’t like that the princess had called him by such a formal title. He stared at the Princess for a moment and she stared back. Her eyes told him everything her words could not. She had changed his title because others were around. Yoongi moved his arm, turnt right side up before he pulled it back and allowed for the Princess’ hand to slide into his. Their palms touched and warmth filled the Princess’ cheeks. The Prince’s hand was hot, liquid heat ran beneath his skin and his nails were long, the tips filed to a blunt point. The Prince hadn’t broken his stare with the Princess and wrapped his fingers lightly around her hand.
“Will you allow me the honor of escorting you to the banquet tonight?”
“It would be my honor, your Highness.”
Yoongi bit his tongue and kept from speaking out while Princess Keena slowly pulled her hand from his. Her own nails lightly scratched Prince Yoongi’s palm and the Prince nodded his head as he took a step back, a shiver crawling up his arm and down his spine.
“Would you allow me to send a small welcome gift?”
“It would honor me, so.”
Prince Yoongi bowed his head and Princess Keena repeated the motion.
“Rest well, Princess.”
The Prince walked away with Hoseok right behind him while Aga grabbed the Princess’ attention. He looked at the doors and Princess Keena nodded her head, “Ou mèt tcheke, Aga.”
The guards pushed open the doors and the servants inside all rushed to stand in a single file line as they heard the doors open. Aga walked into the room first and the Princess stepped inside after. She watched as Aga searched the room for any hidden dangers while the women cowered away from his stoic face. Aga nodded to the Princess and placed a hand over his heart before he bowed his head.
"Mwen pral-" Aga started to complain, and Princess Keena shook her head.
"Ou pral tcheke chanm ou yo epi tounen yon fwa ou fin etabli, Aga." Princess Keena smiled as she motioned towards the women in the room and Aga sighed knowing that the Princess was right, she was in good hands. "Mwen nan bon men. Montre fanm sa yo respè yo merite.”
Aga pressed his mouth into a firm line at the Princess’ words and turned towards the four women in the room who were all equally confused by their shared words. Aga bowed quickly and left the room. Once the door shut behind Aga, Princess Keena turned towards the women and bowed her head.
“I am Princess Keena, daughter of King Baasi and Queen Tiali. Please lend me your hands and forgive me for I do not yet fully speak your mother tongue.”
The four women all bowed deeply and smiled softly at the Princess. Her dress was something they had never seen before, and it was beautiful. However, it was not something that the Princess could wear to the banquet tonight. The tallest of the four women stepped forward and introduced herself as Kim Yongsun and the others were Byulyi, Wheein and Hyejin. Yongsun explained to the Princess as she spoke slowly that they were to bathe and dress her for the banquet that night as well as give her a small lesson on their etiquette.
“I would like to learn your etiquette first. My attendants will be with us shortly to help with my undress.”
“As you wish, Princess.”
Yongsun led the Princess to a table that sat low to the floor where Hyejin sat with a small smile on her face. As the Princess sat and started her lesson with Hyejin, the other women bustled around the room as they put away the Princess’ possession. A knock at the door grabbed Byulyi’s attention and she rushed to the door. She opened the door and bowed a quarter of the way as she stepped back to allow Princess Keena’s servant to enter the room.
Izaso, Keena’s head servant crossed her arms over her chest and bowed her head. The four other women did the same as Princess Keena stood to her feet. “Nou la pou ede. Ki kote ou ta renmen nou Princess?” Izaso questioned as she looked around the room.
“Izaso, sa yo se medam yo ki pral okipe bezwen mwen isit la nan palè a. Tanpri montre yo etap dezabiye mwen pou aswè a.” Princess Keena explained to Izaso and the other servants that they had to work together to get her ready for the banquet tonight.
Princess Keena watched as Yongsun lined her women up and Izaso did the same. Yongsun started the introductions and Izaso allowed for the servants under her to speak first. Alinafe, Fatsani, Limbani, and Chimika introduced themselves in broken Laibic and the Princess was proud. She had spent a few days prior to leaving her nation teaching her servant how to say simple Laibic phrases so that they could ask for help if they needed any.
As the women spoke, the Princess acted as the translator and together the nine women started the long process of readying the Princess for the upcoming banquet. When the Princess’ crown was removed, Wheein was surprised to see that the hair wasn’t straight like her own. Princess’ Keena had hair that reached down towards the floor and stopped at the small of her lower back. Her hair was darker than any ink within the palace and it smelled of the sweetest fruits and flowers. It was twisted into tight braids only a blueberry in diameter with golden metal wire wrapped around different braids. Small golden jewelry with different gemstones were also attached to the braids.
The shock on Wheein’s face wasn’t hidden fast enough and Chimika laughed before she showed the young woman how to carefully wrap the Princess’ hair so that it wouldn’t get wet while bathing. Once Princess Keena’s hair was piled on top of her head and wrapped messily in a headscarf, it was Fatsani and Hyejin’s turn to bathe the Princess. The private washroom was huge, smooth stones covered the floor and dipped down into a wide open pool of water. Rocks of different sizes lined the wall that blocked the inside from anyone who would have tried to look in. It was beautiful and the Princess felt excited at the thought of bathing.
Hyejin reaches out to untie one of the wraps on the Princess’s waist and Fatsani was quick to stop her. Hyejin looked confused and Princess Keena smiled softly, she knew what Fatsani was afraid of. The Princess cleared her throat and focused solely on Hyejin as she spoke.
“Do you know of the Impundulu, Hyejin? It is known as the lighten bird in my nation. The Impundulu has ruled Escistan since the first rainfall.” Princess Keena motioned for Fatsani to remove her iborun and pele. “The mark of the Impundulu is a sign of royal blood. Every blood born Impundulu has these marks somewhere on their body.” Princess Keena thought over the words that would best explain her feelings and she cleared her throat.
“The mark of the Impundulu isn’t always pleasant to look at but it is a mark I wear with pride…I hope that these marks do not frighten you.”
Once the Princess was finished talking, Fatsani allowed for Hyejin to help with the undress and made sure that Hyejin stayed in front of the Princess at all times. Hyejin folded the clothing and placed them on a wooden cart to keep from getting wet and when she turned back around, she covered her mouth, her startled gasp muffled. Princess Keena was faced away from Hyejin, her back fully exposed. Hyejin could see dark scarring that resembled ice crystals in the shape of wings. It was a beautiful and terrifying sight, the scars weren’t raised, they were placed directly along the slope of the Princess’s back. Hyejin thought back to what she had been told about the Impundulu and all that came to mind were Hamerkop's wings.
Hyejin made no comments on the Princess’s scars and Fatsani offered the Princess a hand to help her into the waters. When Princess Keena stepped into the water, she was surprised to find that the rocks on the bottom were heated which kept the water warm.
“Fire stones, Princess.” Hyejin had explained when she saw the Princess pause in her steps. “There are many magic stones and gems in the palace that make life more practical.”
Fatsani and Hyejin showed each other their methods to cleaning and Princess Keena enjoyed the extra attention. She had been worried that Hyejin would no longer want to be her attendant, but Hyejin showed no sign of leaving.
The journey to the Min Empire was long and the air quality wasn’t always the best. The Princess felt dirty enough that the extra fussing didn’t bother her. Once out of the bathing waters, Princess Keena was quickly patted dry before Fatsani helped her into a thin cream and gold dressing robe. In the main room, Byulyi and Alinafe discussed the best way to style the Princess’ hair for the banquet. Alinafe wanted to do a traditional style from the Escistan kingdom while Byulyi thought it best to do a hairstyle in favor of the Min Empire. Limbani was smart enough to suggest that they mix the two styles and when there was a knock at the door, Yongsun was quick to rush and answer it.
Hidden behind the white Hanji partition with golden leaves painted along the border, Princess Keena stood nude while Limbani massaged citrus and sweet scented oils to her skin before the Princess slipped her robe back on. While hidden, a male servant entered the room with a large box in his hands. He set the beautiful, decorated chest on the ottoman by the bed and left with a small bow of his head. Yongsun clapped her hands and called for the Princess.
“His Imperial Highness has sent you a gift, Princess.”
Princess Keena couldn’t stop the smile that danced on her lips. She stepped from behind the partition and walked over towards the large platform bed. The chest in front of her was no bigger than a large shoe box and it was decorated in gold paint and jade gems.
“What do you think it is, Princess?” Izaso wondered out loud and the Princess had no clue. She thought back to the letters exchanged with Yoongi and one thing came to mind.
As careful as she could, the Princess opened the chest and everyone’s eyes widened at the items inside. A delicate pair of matching golden hair pins sat on top, a cluster of blackthorn flowers replicated by mother of pearls, yellow apetites and jades shone in the soft sunlight that came into the room. Underneath the hair pins a pouch rested neatly. Princess Keena picked it up and was shocked by the craftsmanship. The pouch itself was light weight, a little larger than the size of her fist. Its body was round with a squared neck that would be cinched by black silk strings. The purse was a soft lilac with a black dragon embroidered into the center, around the bottom of the bag golden flower petals lay while the dragon rested beneath a large blackthorn tree.
Princess Keena traced over the blackthorn tree and smiled. How many times had she spoken of her favorite flowers? The Prince remembered and that made the Princess’ heart flutter in her chest. Attached to the pouch was a gold tassel that had a large white moonstone encased in a beautiful cross stitch. When the Princess looked at it more, she saw that the moonstone opened and inside was hollowed out and stored two rings with thin gold bands and three white scolecite gems on each. “What is the name of this?” Princess Kenna asked and Byulyi answered that the pouch was called a Duru-Jumeoni and the tassel was called a Norigae.
Princess Keena set the Duru-Jumeoni aside and laughed, the chime like bells loud and clear as she stared down at the Min dynasty inspired Dashiki. Prince Yoongi had asked many questions about the type of clothing the Princess wore, and she had sent him a few pieces to see for himself in person. A Boubou in black and gold, colors that the Prince had stated he liked and a Kente, in red, black and gold to contrast the Boubou if he were to ever wear the two together. The Dashiki was lilac, white and a darker purple with gold and black beading embroidered along the rounded neckline and colorful patchwork on the arms and bottom. Princess Keena was impressed, the Prince had taken notes and put them to use.
“Do you like it, Princess?” Yongsun had asked and Princess Keena touched the garment lightly, the smile still on her face.
“These are very thoughtful. I’ll be sure to thank his Highness at the banquet.”
“Would you like to wear the hair pins tonight?”
Oh! They would look wonderful with your hanbok!” Byulyi gushed and the women all nodded their heads in agreement.
Princess Keena allowed for the women to use her new hair accessories and she sat before the mirror while Byuyl and Alinafe applied mint and argan oil to the Princess’ scalp and hair before they started to style it together. Izaso and Yongsun took their time as they applied lip tint, eye liner and rouge to the Princess’ face.
“Èske rad yo pare?” Izaso looked away from the Princess’ face towards where the other women were smoothing out a lilac colored hanbok that had many more pieces than the Escistan Iro ati Buba that the Princess wore earlier. Wheein giggled as she grabbed the matching socks and shoes. Everything was ready; they just needed the Princess's body.
Fatsani spoke up and answered Izaso’s question that everything was ready. Satisfied with Princess Keena’s hair, Izaso and Yongsun each placed a hair pin neatly in place before they led the Princess over to the bed and stepped back to allow for Fatsani and Hyejin to handle the dressing. Princess Keena removed her dressing gown and followed the simple instructions that Hyejin gave while Fatsani assisted with the unknown garments. The Princess counted in her head each item that was placed onto her body, and she was surprised that seven items didn’t feel heavy at all. Her range of motion was still flexible and when Izaso placed her dressing gown back on, the Princess sighed.
“There are five more pieces that need to be worn,” Wheein had explained. “However, we will get back to your etiquette lessons until it’s time for the banquet.”
Once again, at the desk with Hyejin, Princess Keena started her lessons while the rest of the women tidied up the room. Limbani came over the small desk and suggested that the Princess take a break and enjoy some refreshments that were brought in. Princess Keena agreed and Lambani carried a tray of small sweets over.
“What you have in front of you is Yakgwa, a honey pastry -” Byulyi pointed to the deep fried treat. “- Bukkumi, a rice cake dumpling with sweet red beans -” Byulyi again pointed to another treat that was shaped like white half moons with colorful edible flowers on them “- and lastly, we have Dasik, a tea cookie!” Byulyi beamed, as she offered the plate of small colorful cookies to the Princess.
“These all look wonderful. Thank you for sharing them with me.” Princess Keean tried the Bukkumi first, and she enjoyed the soft and chewy texture. While she ate and practiced her etiquette, Princess Keena offered the treats to the women, and they all agreed that it was best to partake so that the Princess could show what she learned.
Once the treats were eaten, Yongsun called for someone to take the empty trays away and Princess Keena started to get restless. The sun hadn’t set much, it was just past midday which meant there was still a lot of time that needed to pass before the banquet.
“Would you like to rest before the banquet?” Yongsun offered and Izaso had started to protest when Yongsun motioned towards the bed.
“May I step outside for some air?” Princess Keena requested and Yongsun looked towards the door.
“I will ask for a guard to guide you.”
Yongsun stepped out of the room and Wheein jumped to her feet. “If you are going out, we need to finish getting you dressed, Princess.”
Princess Keena nodded her head and watched as Wheein and Hyejin rushed about the room, a different hanbok in their arms.
“So that your hanbok for the banquet doesn’t get dirty during your walk, Princess.” Byulyi explained as she grabbed matching socks and shoes.
"Izaso, Alinafe, Fatsani, Limbani, ak Chimika, yo ranvwaye ou. Tanpri repoze byen epi jwi aswè a."
Princess Keena’s servants crossed their arms over their chest and bowed their heads before they took their leave and soon after Yongsun came back into the room while the other women were dressing the Princess.
“Minho has been tasked with escorting you, Princess. Your guard Aga is outside as well.”
“Thank you, Yongsun.” Princess Keena smiled brightly and held onto Hyejin and Wheein while Byulyi helped her into her footwear. The hanbok that the Princess wore was cream colored with light and dark shades of pink throughout that tied everything together. Princess Keena waited while Yongsun opened the door and Aga stood tall in a fresh new uniform that matched the guard beside him. "Koulè yo kostim ou, Aga."
Aga smoothed down his new uniform and grunted before he offered Princess Keena his arm while the guard beside him bowed deeply. “I am Choi Minho and it would be my honor to lead you through our gardens, Princess.”
Minho was charming, he had a strong face and eyes that were very expressive. He was older than Aga and that made the Princess trust him more. Princess Kenna bowed her head as she placed her hand on Aga’s arm.
“I leave myself in your care, Minho.”
Minho led the way through the palace with the Princess, Aga, Wheein and Hyejin in tow, Servants and guards alike all stopped and bowed when the Princess passed by. She kept her head held high and once outside in the fresh air; Princess Keena inhaled the flora scents around her. Many scents she had not smelled before and it was all a little overwhelming. Wheein stepped away to grab another round of refreshments for the Princess while she enjoyed her time outside. Minho led the Princess to a small gazebo that was on the edge of what looked to be a cherry blossom garden. Each breeze lifted fallen petals into the air and Princess Keena watched with sparkling eyes as the petals waltzed around her. Princess Keena sat on the pale green bench and stared out at the cherry blossom trees, as a million different thoughts swirled in her mind.
“Princess, would you care for some tea?” Hyejin offered as Wheein stepped into the gazebo.
Princess Keena nodded her head in thanks and waited silently as a cup of tea was poured for only herself.
“Minho?”
“Yes, Princess?” Minho turned to face the Princess and watched her with wide eyes.
“How many gardens are on the grounds?”
Minho thought for a moment, of course he knew the answer, but he had to check with himself to make sure. “Six gardens, Princess. I have been told that a seventh garden is in the process of being added.”
“This is a beautiful place. It’s peaceful and offers a sense of comfort.”
“Her Majesty is very fond of cherry blossoms.”
Princess Keena turned her face upward, reached out a hand and a cherry blossom petal fell into her palm. Aga watched with a fond hint of some memory in his eyes as the Princess closed her hand into a fist and pulled her hand to her chest. She whispered a quiet wish to the petal and opened her palm with a soft smile on her face. The breeze blew; up, up and away the petal went as it carried the Princess’ unknown wish.
The petal was carried on the wind, lightly and surely as it soon found home on the shoulder of Prince Yoongi. He sat by his window, the sunlight warmed him from the outside in, with his eyes closed. When the petal landed on his shoulder, Yoongi’s eyes opened slowly, and he glanced at his shoulder. The petal stood out, small, pink and fragile against his blood red robes and he carefully plucked it between his fingers.
Prince Yoongi stared at the petal silently and turned his attention back to the sun outside. He sighed and reached his hand out the window, before he parted his fingers and let the petal continue its journey. He watched the petal as it flew alone, and he frowned to himself unsure why he felt a sudden rush of longing.
“Hoseok!” Prince Yoongi called out and shortly after, Hoseok appeared beside him right outside of his window. “Where is the Princess?”
“Princess Keena is in the cherry blossom garden.”
Yoongi blinked slowly at the information and stood from his seat. “Let’s go.”
“Wait! Your hair!” Hoseok grabbed the sleeve of Prince Yoongi’s gangsapo and climbed through the window. “Her Majesty will have my head if I let you walk around with your hair like this.” Hoseok pushed the Prince towards his vanity and quickly fixed his topknot before he deemed the Prince good enough to be seen outside of his chambers.
Together, Prince Yoongi and Hoseok left the bed chambers and made their way to the cherry blossom garden. In the distance Prince Yoongi saw the Princess under the gazebo as she chatted away. Prince Yoongi fought the smile that tugged at his lips and the moment Minho saw him, the older man cleared his throat and bowed deeply. Princess Keena looked in the direction of which Minho was bowing, and she rose to her feet while the others around her bowed.
Prince Yoongi stood before the Princess and she gave him a pleasant bow before she greeted him with that charmed smile of hers. The Prince stared at the Princess and bowed slightly, “Hello, Princess.”

Summary: Kim Taehyung is the only one of the Kim family who has remained alive during the cold vampire attack in 1653.
Min Yoongi is the Duke of Nevadia, a small town near London whose parents died because of the Kim Family.
Jeon Jungkook is a vampire who was turned against his will.Who will win?
It all had started with a mad scientist who decided to play with Mother Nature. With the power of death and magic they created the perfect soldier to fight alongside human beings during the war invasions in England. The country had to be saved at all costs, and for that a price was paid. The perfect soldier, according the scientist who mind you was a female, possessed inhumane strength, excessive abilities in mind control, pale unbreakable skin, immortality and animalistic thirst for blood. Not just any blood, human blood. The scientist's name was Vampirica Demario. And thus the "perfect soldier" soon received the name "vampire" in honor of the creator. They looked like human, spoke like human, acted like human but they were not human. Instead of red blood theirs was black like tar and sour like vinegar. It contained acid that could burn the human skin in an instant, thus why humans had no chance against those creatures. After England was saved with the help of vampires, it took exactly five decades for the vampires to raise up and press for power. In 1653 a cold vampire attack happened. Those creatures turned against their own creators and villages burnt down to the ground as children and women were brutally slaughtered. No one had a chance against them, not even King Kim's knights nor the soldiers. Whoever crossed their path found their demise pretty quick. No one knew how to neutralize those creatures and because of that, the humanity suffered the consequences of Vampirica Demario's choice. The creatures had managed to reach the royal family's castle and murdered everyone in their sight except a small five year old boy who was hiding in the underground dungeon, shaking and silently crying in pure fear. This was Kim Taehyung, he was the only son of the royal family and the only one who had managed to survive at that time. Walking down a path of dead slaughtered and drained bodies wasn't something that a five-year-old should go through, but life wasn't as easy as it seemed to be despite being a royalty. Taehyung was well-hidden for twenty more years far away North in an abandoned castle with the remained survivors of the attack. At first people were in pure fear of what was about to come, however they didn't lose hope that those creatures would evolve and develop a weak spot. Their prayers were answered when the vampires began bleeding to death under the sunlight and falling on the ground before they vanished in thin air. It was a pure coincidence as well, while a woman was chanced by a vampire during the night, she tripped in a small field covered with flowers that were called "Bleeding heart." The vampire would burst into flames as soon as those flowers made contact with his skin. From then on, the coin quickly flipped. Humans began using those two weaknesses to keep themselves safe. Women and children would roam abroad daylight only and carry with themselves that said flower which was the kryptonite for vampires. No one really knew the reason behind that flower and what exactly contained to turn vampires in a bomb, but they were grateful for it. It was like a sign from God. During that time, Kim Taehyung gracefully took what was rightfully his. He took over the title of "Prince" of the Kim bloodline and everyone loved him for his strong sense of justice, compassion and extreme love for his people. Taehyung refused to become a King because he knew that there would be no better King than his beloved father. The prince helped everyone to build up small villages nearby, gave jobless people land to work over and brought a lot of economic success to England. He was also very intelligent, determined, reserved, stable and a gentle man. Everyone admired his abilities and respected his decisions. Taehyung managed to renovate the castle and completely transform it into his own new kingdom, rightfully so. And soon enough, the vampire attacks had decreased. It was a win against humanity. It wasn't long enough until humans began capturing vampires and using them for their own twisted experiments. Taehyung believed that there was never redemption for everything horrific that has been done so he would capture humans and vampires who did wrong and simply execute them without remorse.
London, England.
Blue flowers. Weren't they pretty? A huge garden with blue flowers that only grew as the seasons came by. Taehyung was always mesmerized. He was standing in the large balcony, brown eyes roaming over the horizon as the sun kissed his pale skin beautifully, making it have that special glow everyone noticed. Brown curly locks of hair were caressed by the warm wind as the scent of those blue treasures intoxicated the prince. Lips pressed in a thin line, his features were soft and gentle. He rarely smiled, but when he did, it was as if the world turned around. "Your highness" a small voice echoed behind the prince. Taehyung blinked a few times and slowly turned around, hands gracefully resting on his back. A small girl was standing not too far away from him. She was blonde, blue - eyed and wore a pretty yellow dress that contrasted with her eyes. "I believe you are here to know what happens in the next chapter of the book, Eve?" Taehyung gently cooed, voice soft and sweet like honey. The girl giggled quietly and nodded her head. Without many words being exchanged, the prince walked inside with the small child. Eyes finding the red book with leather cover and golden letters as he slowly situated himself on the large chair as the girl sat by his side, excitedly swaying her legs back and forth as she waited for him to start reading. He glanced at her for a moment, admiring her beauty. Eve was a child he never thought would survive. When she was brought here, her parents were murdered by a vampire clan and Taehyung felt as if it was his responsibility to take care of her - so he did. He accepted her under his own wing as the little sister he never thought he'd have. "Do I have something on my face, sir?" she asked concerned from the long silence. "Not at all," he replied. Slowly the prince reached for the vase of pretty blue flowers and put one in her curly locks of hair, just behind her ear. "Here, now you look prettier like that." he spoke in amused voice as Eve let out a quiet giggle. Slowly the prince opened the book. "Chapter thirteen, AND then he turned him to the other knight, that was sore wounded. But when he saw the other's buffet, he would not fight, but kneeled down and said, Take my cousin the lady with you at your request, and I require you, as ye be a true knight, put her to no shame nor villainy..." before the prince could continue further, there as a very obnoxious high pitched female voice behind the closed large wooden doors of his chambers. The prince let out a quiet sigh. "Come in," he invited the woman in, she was one of his maids. The woman rushed inside, hands fumbling together nervously, worry was written across her features. She looked as if she had seen something horrific. "Your Majesty, Lord Seokjin is here. He says that it's an urgent matter. He is waiting for you in the dungeons." Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. When did Seokjin came back from Ireland? "Very well," the prince spoke lowly, closing the book as he looked at Eve's disappointed face. Soft chuckle escaped Taehyung's lips. "I will promise I will read it to you later." he reassured the little girl, reaching to fix the blue flower in her hair. "Now you may go play in the gardens with Laura," he glanced at the woman then back at Eve. "I will be back soon, I promise." he murmured and with that, he rose up from his seat, fixing his white shirt and button up golden coat before heading out of the chambers. He crossed the long hallways of the castle with fast steps, brows furrowed. Pushing the black wooden doors at the end of the hallway open, he climbed down the stairs as darkness overtook him. There was only a dim glow from the torches hanging on both sides of the walls, no windows. This place, Taehyung hated the most. He disliked being here, but he trusted Seokjin. He was his right hand after all. A honest man and a loyal human who deserved the title that Taehyung had given him. The prince's body shivered in horror as he heard muffled screams while he was making his way toward the dungeon. He followed those horrifying sounds to one of the many cells at the very end of the hallway. He stopped in front of the door, face now twisted in pain as that piercing made his ears hurt. Opening the door, Taehyung walked in and he saw a woman laying on the ground, furiously trembling. She had dirty ripped dress covered in red and black. Then it hit him. Glancing at Seokjin and two more guards, Taehyung swallowed thickly. "What is the meaning of this!" he insisted as the woman kept screaming in pure pain, eyes rolling into the back of her head. It was almost like she had seizures or she was possessed by a bloody demon. The prince has never seen something so horrific in his life. "Our worst fears have came true, Prince." Seokjin straightened his shoulders. Taehyung noticed that he had also blood on his hands and he looked very pale. Everyone in the room were quiet except of the female screaming in agony. Soon her screams died and with one last roll of her eyes, she stopped moving, eyes remaining wide open. The prince took a step forward but was stopped by the guards. "For your safety, your Majesty." "What is going on, Seokjin?" Taehyung asked. "She was in transition." the Lord spoke in a low tone, helplessness in his tone was evident. It made Taehyung anxious. "Transition to?" "She was transitioning to a vampire, Sir."

Seoul, seven years ago.
It's a breezy summer night and King Ryung is holding a ball to celebrate his birthday.
The entire nobility and high society of the Korean Kingdom were invited.
Crown Prince Seung-gi is participating in the dances; meanwhile, Prince Yoongi is taking a stroll in the moonlit park with his old childhood friend, Lady Y/N, daughter of The King's best friend and counsellor.
"These shoes are killing me"
Says Y/N finding a spot to sit on a stone bench in front of the pond, the moon shining on its surface, as a light breeze ruffles a bit of her hair that is styled into a half-up, half-down updo.
The wind makes every single branch of the trees nearby move and the loose leaves fall into the pond's water.
Soon after, Yoongi joins her both in silence, enjoying each other's presence, Y/N sighs.
Taking the courage to finally announce that she got accepted into one of the most prestigious schools of architecture in Europe, she's been wanting to tell Yoongi for a while, but she always tried to push it back because of her feelings for him.
"Yoongi… there's something I need to tell you…"
Yoongi's eyebrows shot up in surprise as his best friend's tone got serious.
"Shoot whatever you need to say, Y/n"
"I'm leaving tomorrow… I got accepted into that University in Europe, the one that I've been trying to get into for the last two years…"
Yoongi stays silent for a couple of seconds, thinking whether he should tell her not to go because of his feelings for her or be happy for her and congratulate her on her successful task of entering university.
"Really? I'm so happy for you Y/n! But wait… tomorrow?! Why haven't you told me sooner?"
"I know, and I'm sorry for telling you like this, it's that I was still unsure of going."
"I understand"
Yoongi smiles at her but still feels a bit sad about the fact that they'll have to spend time apart.
After all, they both had grown up together, and it was usual for both to meet every day, mostly spending it listening to music, reading, or simply enjoying each other's presence.
He stands up, stretching his hand towards Y/n
"This needs a celebration itself!"
"What do you mean? What about the ball?! Wouldn't people notice that we're both missing?"
"I'm not my brother Y/n, it should be fine if we disappeared for more than we should. Follow me."
Yoongi leads y/n inside his father's office, where he mostly spends his time working on state matters and political businesses, the office is entirely covered in wood finely decorated and covered with paintings, and behind Yoongi's father's desk stands a tall, dark brown library full of old books, Yongi grins at Y/n and then reaches out to a mustard yellow covered book and takes it in his hands, once he opens the book it reveals inside of it that in fact, it's not a simple book but a perfect hiding spot for a set of old keys.
"What are you doing Yoongi? We shouldn't even be here!"
"Oh c'mon Y/n, don't you miss the old days when we were always up to no good?"
"Yes, but we never sneaked inside The King's office! And what are those keys for?"
Yoongi smiles again, wiggling his eyebrows mischievously
"What do you think they're for?"
"No. Do not tell me that those are the keys to your father's car. No, Yoongi, we won't steal The King's car"
"Oh no, these aren't the keys to my father's car, in fact, these are the keys to a secret place, my father doesn't even know that I know about this. Now, if you want to follow me, good, otherwise you can go back to the ball and keep complaining about how much your feet hurt due to those damn new shoes"
Y/n rolls her eyes, thinking about what she should do.
"Fine, I'll come with you"
"Knew it"
Yoongi grabs the keys from inside the book and closes it, putting it back on the shelf of the dark wooden library, taking again Y/n's hand, and takes her to the other side of The King's office, sliding a painting of his Grandfather and puts one of the keys in the hidden keyhole, turning the key until both he and Y/n hear a "click", Yoongi looks at her, grinning widely as the wall slides to the side, revealing a secret passage with wooden stairs.
They both start to go down the stairs, together until they reach a cosy hidden room with a stone fireplace, a couple of armchairs, and a big matching brown leather couch.
On the wall there are plenty of wooden shelves with many different bottles of wine, traditional Korean alcoholic beverages and imported whiskey, rum and scotch, on one side of the room, there is a vintage vinyl record player, Yoongi reaches for a new vinyl record and plays it.
"I guess this is where my father comes to unwind"
Yoongi says, gesturing to the room they're in at the moment, walking to the wall where the shelves are placed.
"What do you think it'll be good to drink for our own celebration? Wine? Whiskey? Champagne? Makgeolli? I'll let you choose"
Yoongi smirks as Y/n ponders on her choice, walking near Yoongi's side.
"I think red wine will be good, but... wouldn't your father notice?"
"As far as I know, he only comes down here when things get stressful, so I'm sure he wouldn't notice"
Yoongi looks at one of the best-imported wine bottles and takes it into his hand and walks towards a cabinet with glasses inside and a corkscrew.
Taking two of the wine glasses into his free hand as Yoongi places the bottle on the nearby table, then he reaches for also the corkscrew and begins to open the bottle of wine.
"How did you find out about this place, Yoongi?"
"Curiosity, one day I was left alone in my father's office while he was attending to a guest in the throne room and the fake book caught my eye while it was sitting on my father's desk, I opened it and found the keys... then I started looking around the office to see if there was any hidden door or something similar, it wasn't easy but I found it"
Yoongi pours the wine into both glasses and offers one to Y/n, she takes it and makes a toast.
"To accomplish our goals and dreams, I hope you'll find your path soon, I wish you to be happy too Yoongi."
"Cheers, I will find my path too"
Glasses clink together as both sip on the red alcoholic grape juice as the taste hits their tongues.
"Promise me we'll keep in touch, Y/n."
"Why wouldn't I? There's no reason for me not to keep on talking to you even just on the phone... you're my best friend, of course I'll keep in touch with you! And, who knows, maybe I'll be able to come visit from time to time..."
"I hope that"
Yoongi smiles as he speaks to his best friend, even if he feels a slight bitterness, knowing that this event might change things between both, he decided that it's better to slide his feelings for her aside, focusing on her being happy about her own life, after all, if you love someone you have to let them do what makes them happy, even if it means letting them go.
Time went by as both quickly finished the first bottle of red wine while they were sitting on the brown leather couch. Soon after, a second one was opened, the two kept chatting, and the effects of the alcohol started intoxicating both as they started to get tipsy.
In a moment of silence, neither Yoongi nor Y/n knew what happened. Maybe it was the alcohol— Maybe it was the desperation of not being able to have another opportunity like this.
But as they stared into each other's eyes, as the time seemed to stop, while at the same time the world was spinning around them, the stare they both held had an electricity and intensity that, if it was an object you could have been able to probably touch it.
Yoongi reached forward to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear, careful not to make it tangle into Y/n's earring, his hand gently caressed her cheek as he does so. His gaze never left hers, it seemed that his heartbeat was echoing through his whole body. It felt like his entire heart was about to burst out of his chest right now, as the feeling of butterflies in his stomach she gave him were far more than he thought he'd be feeling.
As their lips made contact, their tongues danced with each other. Both felt like not wanting to stop, neither can denying the fact that something was happening here, there was no turning back, and these feelings were only going to grow stronger if they didn't act now, when everything still felt new and innocent, not jaded by the years of secrets that they've been keeping inside them.
Neither of them realised how much time had passed before Yoongi suddenly pushed Y/n back against the armrest and laid her down on the couch.
Yoongi took her face into his hands, he kissed her once again with so much desire and need that it made her forget how uncomfortable she was. When they break apart, their faces still close together, Yoongi whispers, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that."
Y/n couldn't speak— she didn't want to say anything else, afraid that whatever comes out of her mouth would either break the spell they were currently under or that they would lose this opportunity forever. However, all she did manage to utter was, "No… don't apologize… this isn't your fault…"
Yoongi continued to look confused, wondering why Y/n said that, but he decides to let it pass for now, continuing to enjoy the closeness between them. He stroked his thumb along Y/n's jawline, feeling the soft skin beneath his fingertips. Their faces still close together, he placed a soft kiss on Y/n's forehead. He couldn't believe that he was doing this, after years of trying to fight his feelings for her to not ruin their friendship and also being afraid to not be reciprocated by Y/n.
"Are you sure? Do you want me to stop?" Yoongi asks as he pulled back, looking deep into Y/n's eyes.
It was evident that Y/n wanted him to continue because despite how nervous she was, she didn't regret this, even if she could feel her heart racing faster than ever.
She couldn't believe that just hours ago she was sitting on the same sofa, drinking some wine, and now she was lying underneath the man who she has secretly loved since they were children. Her voice trembling, Y/n nodded, telling him to carry on.
Yoongi's smile became wider as he took his official uniform jacket off, tossing it on the floor next to the coffee table.
He sat up, and pulled Y/n's torso up, kissing her collarbones, as he wrapped his arms around her again, pulling her body closer to his.
He slowly traced his fingers along Y/n's collarbone as his other hand trailed onto her back, taking the zipper of her poofy powder blue dress between his fingers.
He slowly moved his fingers up towards her neck, then he cupped her chin, making her look at him, a slow, sultry smile forming on his lips.
"Yoongi I've- I've never done this before..."
Y/n told Yoongi, as she looked into his eyes, her tone full of uncertainty and nervousness, as a crimson red appeared on her cheeks.
Despite how nervous she was, Y/n still loved the way Yoongi looked at her like he'd already made up his mind. That he'll make her feel safe with him.
"Don't worry, we can stop if you don't want to. You just have to tell me if you want me to and I will stop,"
He reassured her as he smiled sweetly at Y/n. Even though she was worried, she felt like nothing could hurt her at that moment, because she knew that Yoongi wouldn’t force her to do anything she didn't want to do.
She also thought that she really wanted to do this, to take a step further, to become something more with Yoongi, even if she didn't know exactly what that was. So she told him, without hesitation,
"Please. Don't stop."
Yoongi took a deep breath and leaned in to kiss Y/n again, softly, tenderly, hoping that this would reassure her, that she knew that he wouldn't hurt her.
Yoongi finally undid the zipper of her dress, slowly sliding the poofy ballgown powder blue dress over her shoulders, exposing her black strapless bra, which was clasped in front by a thin black strap, admiring the sight of her lacy black matching underwear, Yoongi throws the dress on the floor, then reached up to unclasp her bra, letting it fall to the ground next to his uniform jacket and her dress.
Yoongi looked back again into her eyes to see if there were any signs of discomfort in her, making sure she was still okay with him continuing before he started massaging her breasts.
"May I?" asks Yoongi softly, as he waited for Y/n's green light
"Yes... please..." answers Y/n, encouraging Yoongi with a simple nod.
A small blush appeared on Y/n's cheeks, as she nodded, causing her cheeks to redden even more.
Still facing away from her, Yoongi bent down to place a soft kiss on Y/n's stomach, following it up with a gentle peck on her left breast.
Reaching out to caress his face, Y/n gently laid back down again on the leather couch, allowing Yoongi to have better access. As his tongue circled around her nipple, gently Yoongi's fingers then started running lower, teasing her with his thumb over the fabric of her panties, causing Y/n to gasp and close her eyes, pushing herself further against Yoongi's hand. When Yoongi saw this reaction, he brought his other hand up to Y/n's chest, pinching her nipples gently.
"You're doing amazing" Yoongi said, praising Y/n, as he smiled at her "Good girl" he kept on praising her, as he continued to tease her with his thumb over the fabric of her panties.
His other hand gently kneaded Y/n's breasts, while he kept moving his thumb across her clothed clit, causing her hips to buck up slightly in response, Yoongi then stopped briefly only to hook his fingers on the waistband of her panties and took them off her body, as he threw them on the floor.
Once her panties were removed, Yoongi took a moment to savour the view before he started kissing her inner thigh, trailing kisses upwards her soaked pussy.
"Tell me if you don't like something, angel," says Yoongi, as he looked up at y/n, unsure of what to expect, as he pressed his lips against her moist pussy, barely touching her clit with his tongue.
Y/n immediately gasped, moaning as her hips bucked involuntarily against Yoongi’s lips.
"God you're so wet..." Yoongi said as he continued to trace his tongue over her clit, which sent her back into overdrive, her hips bucked up even higher against his lips, forcing him to grab her thighs and hold her down.
Y/n tried to arch her back, but Yoongi quickly grabbed her hips to keep her in position, while he kept lapping his tongue over her swollen clit, causing her moans to become louder and more frequent.
At this point, Y/n had lost all sense of control, as she felt as if she was going to explode any second as her body suddenly tensed up.
Noticing this, Yoongi added a little pressure with his tongue, flicking it against her sensitive nub.
His fingers then left her pussy, reaching up to grasp her ass cheeks, gently squeezing them. At the same time, Yoongi pushed his middle finger inside of her, gently stretching her tight walls, prepping her for what was about to come.
As Y/n continued to shudder, uncontrollably, the fingers in her pussy continued to pump faster, causing her to cry out Yoongi's name, screaming out for release.
Finally, Yoongi thrusted his finger inside of her harder, causing her to scream out his name again as her orgasm hit her.
Her entire body trembled violently as waves of pleasure overtake her, almost sending her off the edge, her eyes rolled back into her head, until Yoongi pulled his fingers out, making her whine in frustration, desperately wanting more.
The hand that held Y/n's hips gently ran up her body to caress her cheek as Yoongi climbed up, as he reached for her lips, he kissed her passionately, making her taste herself on his tongue and lips.
"You did so well, angel,"
he said praising her once again,
"you're so beautiful"
he said
"Do you still want to keep going?"
Yoongi asked her with a smile.
She looked up at him in awe, Y/n replied with a nod,
"Of course"
As he heard this, Yoongi stood up and took off his boxers, he stood up proudly in front of Y/n, his throbbing cock sticking straight out.
As Yoongi saw her drool all over him, Yoongi placed his hands on her waist, positioning her underneath him.
"I need you to relax and trust me, y/n, will you?"
Yoongi says, looking into y/n's eyes,
"I do trust you,"
she replied, as she looked back into Yoongi's eyes, as he then lowered himself slowly onto her, as Yoongi teased her slit with the head of his cock, before he slowly pushed his cock inside of her, bit by bit, making Y/n’s face slightly winced in pain at the stretch, Yoongi kissed her cheek and lips as he tried to reassure and distract her from the pain, as he whispering into her ear.
"You're doing great angel, don't worry it will go away"
He praised her one more time, kissing her lips as he continued until he was finally fully inside of y/n, he stayed still until she gave him the input to start moving his hips, as Yoongi let her adjust to the stretch, enjoying the feeling of her tight pussy enveloping his throbbing member.
Y/n wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him deeply, as they both started moving their hips together slowly, matching each other’s pace.
After a while, they settled into a steady rhythm, grinding against each other’s bodies.
"I love how tight your pussy is,"
Yoongi said groaning in pleasure, as he brushed his lips against her forehead,
"You feel amazing"
he continued, as he slowly increased the speed of his thrusts, building up momentum as he kept going and praising her
"You take my cock so well," Yoongi said as he kept thrusting into her
"Shit, it feels so good" Y/n moaned as her nails dug into the skin of Yoongi's back.
Y/n found her climax rapidly approaching, her body trembled uncontrollably as she started screaming Yoongi's name out loud as her orgasm hits her for a second time, flooding his cock with her juices as she writhed around beneath him.
Finally, when she couldn’t handle it anymore, Yoongi thrusted into her once more and filled her with his hot cum.
Their bodies were locked together, and sweat was dripping down both of their foreheads as they slowly rode out their orgasms.
Once they were both finished, Yoongi laid his head on her chest, basking in the afterglow of their mutual orgasm, while he gently rubbed her shoulders, trying to soothe her and help her calm down.
After several minutes of this, Y/n finally started relaxing, as she was overcome with relief and exhaustion.
They lay there like that, with no desire to break apart.
Their breaths became slow and deep, coming more naturally now that the tension had been released, as they stayed in each other's arms for almost an hour.
"We should go back... people might've been thinking where the youngest son of His Majesty went..." says Y/n, as she sighed, not wanting this moment to end.
Yoongi groaned in response, either not wanting to put an end to that moment together: "You're right, after all..."
Yoongi peeled himself up from Y/n's body, as Yoongi started gathering all of his clothes from the floor he dressed himself back up, fixing his hair and clothes, he turned around to look at Y/n who was still reluctantly laying on the couch,
"Are you sure you're okay?" he asks
"I feel great," she said, smiling as she sat up on the leather couch, also gathering back all her clothes, and dressing back, as Yoongi walked in front of her
"Turn around, I'll help you with the zipper of your dress"
She turned around as Yoongi placed one of his hands on the small of her back, while his other hand took the zipper between his fingers and pulled the zipper up,
"There you go"
"Yoongi?"
"Yes?"
"Is my hair fine?"
Yoongi fixed also back her updo, carefully, trying to not mess it up any more.
"Done, ready to go back?"
"I am"
She smiled as she and Yoongi headed back to the huge glittering and lively ballroom, bustling with music and chattering as the celebrations kept going until late in the night.
As the celebrations ended Yoongi and Y/n, hesitantly bid their goodbyes, but they both felt that something had changed between them, as they both sobered up in the meantime.
But they both quite couldn't pinpoint what had that changed between them, or maybe they tried to ignore it, as they did with their mutual feelings, as they awkwardly spoke before Y/n had to leave with her parents and brothers.
"So, I guess this is it... " Yoongi said with a sad smile on his face
"I guess so... but hey, we promised to keep in touch... if you're still up for that, obviously," she said unsure if he was still up for that, after the choice they both made earlier.
"Yeah! Of course, we'll keep in touch" Yoongi smiled again.
One of Y/n's brothers then reached up to them
"Your Highness, I'm sorry to interrupt, but we have to go"
"Yeah, sure I understand."
Yoongi paused and looked back at Y/n,
"Text me when you land, okay?"
"I'll do it Yoongi, please take care of yourself"
Despite the awkwardness between them, they hugged each other, as Yoongi engulfed Y/n in one last long hug.
And with that, once the hug was broken, Yoongi watched Y/n disappear inside the car, he whispered as the car drov
e away from the Royal Palace's driveway into the night as he felt his heart breaking into millions and millions of scattered tiny pieces
"I wish I dared to stop you, but I love you too much to not let you follow your dreams, I hope you'll be happy as you follow your dreams".
That night, Yoongi wasn’t able to fall asleep, his mind running through every single thing that happened that night, reminiscing every single touch, every single kiss and especially how Y/n looked and sounded under him, he reached for his phone on the nightstand next to his bed, unlocking it, angry at himself for being so stupid realising he made a mistake by getting drunk and let his feelings getting the best of the situation, he knew that there was no turning back point as he thinks
I really fucked up this time, like, fucked up badly, why am I so stupid?!
He chuckled disappointed in himself
Good job, Yoongi, really out of all people you could develop feelings for, your best friend well done, Yoongi.
Yoongi let his phone fall on his chest as he ran his hands through his hair
Out of all people you could end up with, your fucking childhood best friend. I’m seriously THAT stupid?!
He took his phone back in his hands and started scrolling through all the pictures he had with her, as he kept smiling again even if he still felt a mixture of disappointment, rage towards himself and most of all fear.
Yoongi feared that if he eventually confessed his feelings for Y/n, she would reject him, he feared that he would ruin the friendship they had, even if they already damaged what they had by choosing of sleeping together earlier that evening, as his thoughts ran one thousand miles per second, he swiped his finger on his phone screen, as he opened his social media and went straight to Y/n’s profile, his thumb lingered for a couple of seconds before hitting the ‘block’ button, as he did the same thing for her email, phone number and Kakaotalk.
I’m sorry, but I can’t keep living like this, I’ll eventually grow out of it.
After being done with this, Yoongi eventually fell asleep.
Jeju, three years ago, four years after Y/n’s departure.
The whole Royal Family was on a state trip before Yoongi’s brother, Crown Prince Seung-gi gets married to Song Kyu-ri, the daughter of the current head of the Bank Of the Korean Kingdom, during a sunny spring afternoon, talking with their people, meeting business owners…
Later, that night, Yoongi’s brother joined him in one of the rooms in the penthouse owned by the royal family, lately kept himself busy with studying music, especially on how to play the piano, despite his behaviour towards people changed gradually in the past four years, he fired nearly thirty piano tutors just because he felt like he grew bored of them, as well as the many rumours, which, most of them were true on how he treated his lovers, breaking hearts left and right, the only people he never even tried to treat badly were his parents, and of course his older brother, he cared deeply for them.
As Yoongi’s fingers grazed on the piano keys delicately, his brother sits beside him
“You’re getting better”
Seung-gi smiled proudly at Yoongi,
“Thank you…”
He replies without even adverting his eyes away from the piano, as his brother spoke again,
“Can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure, go ahead”
“I mean, it’s a serious thing, Yoongi”
He stopped playing the piano as Seung-gi’s tone got deeper and more serious, Seung-gi gets up to sit on the couch behind their backs, and Yoongi followed his brother, sitting across from him
“I intend to resign my position as Crown Prince”
Seung-gi’s voice had never been that serious as his forehead furrows
“What?”
Yoongi’s eyes widened in shock, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing
“Do you even know what this will lead to?!”
Yoongi continues, looking at his brother who’s looking at Yoongi apologetically
“I know the consequences, Yoongi, but I’ve never been cut to become Crown Prince, imagine if I had to become The King! It would be a total disaster, Yoongi”
“So, you think I have what it takes to take YOUR place?!”
Yoongi’s expression turned from disbelief to anger in just a couple of seconds, as he stared at his brother
“And what do you think you would do, after you resigned?!”
“I want to call off the wedding too, Kyu-ri doesn’t deserve the same treatment I will have to face. This is not her fault. And… I want to travel around the world Yoongi, I want to find myself”
“I don’t get why all people want to become a nomad and travel without a specific destination, I find it even harder to understand why all people want to ‘find themselves’”
Yoongi said, standing up and reaching for the cupboard on the wall, he takes a small glass and pours himself a shot of vodka, he then reaches into his pocket, pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit it up with the lighter that was inside the packet, inhaling the bittersweet taste of smoke and tobacco.
“Yoongi… you should stop smoking, you know, Grandpa…”
“I know, but… I honestly don’t care anymore”
Yoongi exhaled a cloud of smoke before speaking again “Does Dad know?”
He asks, looking defeated as his mind has already started accepting his fate while Yoongi’s brother shook his head
“No, I was planning on telling him when we will be back home”
Yoongi nodded as he kept smoking
“You know he will be devastated…”
“But I’m sure he’ll guide you to become a better Crown Prince than I am”
“I don’t think so… but, we will see, only time will tell”
“You’re right…”
Seung-gi smiles at his brother Yoongi,
“But you have to promise me that you will change your behaviour towards the people who aren’t us, Yoongi, otherwise our people will hate you, and nobody wants a King that doesn’t listen to what the kingdom he’s guiding needs”
“I will try”
Seoul, present time
“Newspapers headlines are reporting that Mr Y/l/n, head of the Y/l/n clan, better known as His Majesty The King’s counsellor and old friend has been plotting treason over the past six years, he’s now held in custody in his-”
The voice of the news reporter gets cut off as Yoongi turns the television off when he heard a knocking on the door of the living room in his apartment inside the royal palace
“Your Royal Highness, His Majesty The King requires your presence in his office”
Says Yoongi’s secretary, soon after he’s walking towards The King’s office. Once he reaches the door to The King’s office Yoongi knocks on the door, he then enters as he hears his father’s voice telling him to enter.
“Father, you called?” “Yes, Yoongi, please take a seat I need to discuss a couple of things with you”
Yoongi listens to his father attentively as he gestures for him to continue
“As you know, Y/n’s father is accused of something tremendous…”
“Yes, are there some developments?”
“Yeah, investigations are already closed, we wound out the real person behind that plotting and also found who has spread the rumour.”
“That’s good to hear”
“Yoongi, my dear son, I need to ask you to stay here with me since Y/n’s father is coming here, I have a proposition for both of you”
The King smiles at Yoongi as not long after Y/n’s father enters The King’s office, and Yoongi’s father and Y/n’s father share a brotherly hug, then Y/n’s father greets Yoongi as they all sit on the black armchairs around a coffee table.
“No need to be formal now, it’s just the three of us…”
Says the king, smiling while looking at his best friend and at Yoongi.
“Ryung, you said you have something to ask me, but why is your son here too?”
Yoongi studies his father’s face, trying to capture whatever idea got into his father’s mind as he summoned both him and Y/n’s father.
“Well, after this scandal and false accusation, our people aren’t on your side anymore Dong-jun, as they see all of the clan and family as some kind of traitors, I was thinking of showing that The Crown and the entire royal family are still supporting both you, your family and the clan”
“And.. how do you exactly plan on doing that Father?”
Yoongi looks at his father suspiciously, as he looks at his father’s happy and excited state.
“Good question my son, so…”
Yoongi’s father turns to look at him before speaking again
“You’re Thirty years old, Yoongi and, you’re the Crown Prince, the heir to the throne, as the days pass I get older and older…and I honestly would like to see you settle down and of course produce an heir yourself. So I thought, Y/n just came back after finishing her studies, you two used to get along pretty well since you two basically grew up together”
Yoongi shakes his head, knowing already where his father was trying to direct the conversation
“No. I won’t”
Yoongi says standing up, about to leave the room, as Y/n’s father joins Yoongi’s father “Oh, that could be a great idea!”
“I said I won’t get involved in whatever thing you have in mind, Father. As far as it concerns me, she could’ve just stayed where she’s been staying for the past seven, years. I don’t care”
“You should care instead as the future king”
Yoongi’s father raises his voice slightly before he continues
“You two are going to get married. End of the story. It’s a royal order.”
Yoongi stares in disbelief at his father, clenching his teeth in annoyance as he shakes his head and storms off towards his car, he couldn’t believe that his father would impose on him his powers as a King and force him into marry the person he wanted to avoid the most on this planet.

.→✒️:★: ͜͡✿͜͡ →.- this is pure fan fiction it's not real. I mean no disrespect to any of the members. The stroy is fictional it's doesn't have anything to do with the real life members of bts.
When the first ray sunlight hit you wake up and prepare a little bag to take with you to the royal castle you don’t have much just few pair of dress that you sewed and undergarments. Feeling giddy to start a whole new life that, it is as exciting as horrifying you don’t know what to expect a part of you want to stay behind with hoseok but other part want you go out and not waste this opportunity maybe in the end it would be worth it.
There were three caravans send by the king for the transportation to the castle, one was already filled with bundle of belongings of the one who was selected. the second and last one occupied with men and women respectively. The chatting of the crowed loud mothers listing how to do proper work how to maintain everything around the kitchen to tips to seduce some wealthy men teasing grins and laugh echoes. The same on other caravans, fathers giving fair well to their sons telling them come back as brave knight with a charming woman beside them.
The three knights watch this from the side they had taken all the precautions to leave they’re just waiting for the exchange to end. Ameon had already left complaining how he could not bear to stand anymore on here.
Jungkook glance into opening of woods for minute jimin pats him on the shoulder yoongi sees that “don’t be selfish jungkook it’s better for her if she didn’t come at all” he mumbles.
Jungkook hide his hurt look he knows yoongi means no harm it’s his concerns “yeah” he whispers back.
“don’t know if the God is cruel or kind” jimin state jungkook frown at him, jimin take his chin and turns him to the side the pout on his lips dissolving when he sees you stands there clenching on your bundle of belongings.
Yoongi watches you with stoic look making you hesitate on your steps jungkook didn’t move either, jimin give you charmingly walking towards you not before giving jungkook a mischievous grin. When he reaches you, he smiles softly at you genuinely. “Thought we lost you for a bit”
“Forgive me. I was hoping to say my farewell to hoseok, but he was not home” you glance around the crowed searching for said male but found none.
He takes the belonging from you gesturing you to walk “yeah he is not here either.”
When the two you approach the crowed goes silent and hushed whispers arose from the crowed you nod at jungkook and yoongi as walk by them. Jimin secure you belongings on the first caravan people move out the way as if your ill with contagious diseases.
The three-knight exchange look at this yoongi shakes his head at jimin subtly telling him not no anything. Jungkook’s displease expressed through the frown on his face. Jimin, motion you get inside the wagon where other girls sitting. When you make way towards them some of the mothers hurriedly motion their daughter sit far away from them making you hesitate to even get inside.
“Uhm… there is no space for another sit sir. “One of the girls speak up chorus of agreement echoes you nervously look around eyes always shifting not wanting to lock on the glares disapproving eyes.
Jimin raise his perfect brow at the statement an obvious lie “I am sure we could find some space for her” he said with polite smile his hands taking your palm other hand pointing inside the caravan.
“it’s going to be a long journey it would be better if they are not cramped up” a guy come up beside jimin saying his eyes find your form hiding his disgust he politely smiles at you “maybe you should go back your home, I’m sure they have enough helpers now. They would not be needing you”
Humiliation seep through your skin telling yourself not break a tear to further humiliation when you feel your self tears picking your eyes. Hiding your head down you nod slowly.
Jimin frown at that before he can say anything yoongi intervene calling your name “they are right” he states jimin and jungkook shared disbelief look at this. You take your hands from jimin his eyes held an apologetic look. When goes to walk by yoongi he takes your hands in his you glance at him confused “she will ride with me”
The people around them gasp jungkook and you included jimin grin wide yoongi “smooth” he mouths at him. Yoongi shakes his head the corner of his lips twisting into a small smile that you wouldn’t see if your far but up close you catch it.
He strides towards his horse with your hands still in his he motions you get on but you stand still shocked at his action taking your chin closing your parted lips “keep it close will you” with a grin he mounts the horse lending you hand “you confuse me” you whisper before taking his hand.
“I know”
Jimin pats on shell shocked jungkook “take notes brother, take note.” His laugh hidden by false pity
“So unfair” jungkook pout murmuring and they mount their horse. Jimin announce the departing to everyone. Yoongi guides his horse to move to the front taking the lead, he commands the driver to follow them.
Before they can move a voice yell at them “WAIT FOR ME” Panting heavily hoseok come dashing out the woods his cheeks were flushed pink,
Jimin and jungkook who was in the back turn to familiar voice calling out they share puzzled look when they see hoseok.
Hoseok had woken up with pounding headache the wash off the drunkenness he had gone to the river to wash up the cold water had really woken him up the soreness and buzzing of head left him. After that he had packed his things hurriedly yelling at his family that he was going castle to become a knight. The news was very surprising to his parents but overjoyed nonetheless. He could hear the people chatter as they prepaid the sendoff. Making sure he has everything he set out your home, the sole reason he was leaving no one need to know that it’s his secret to keep. But when he couldn’t find you there, he started running to the center of the town.
“You are coming with us?” jungkook question with excited smile
“Maybe” Hoseok throws his bag on cart that he then hurriedly turns to the caravan that the women occupied looking for you his smile melting away replaced with a frown when he does not find. The girls in the caravan blush as his eyes search.
“Hoseok is that you?”
he hears your voice call out joyously calling your name he pushes his upper body to lean inside the caravan making the girls giggle “are in there?” he calls out with biggest smile.
“Hoseok what are you doing?” now you sound from behind making the him jump and hit his head. Glancing over yoongi shoulder you watch hoseok stammer over his words.
Yoongi grin at the male “so decided to show up last minute huh!” only then hoseok register that you’re riding on the stoic knight’s horse.
“Why are you riding with him” he asks without any hesitation, the recruits start mumble among themselves making you glance at them and then to hoseok.
“We are already late hoseok, catch up later” yoongi motion the driver to continue the travel not wanting to late any further and knowing hoseok would be defiantly angered and would not hesitate give a peace his mind to the recruits if he knows what is events that lead you to ride with him, he rather much like to avoid that nodding at jimin as he starts to guide his horse ignoring the protest of hoseok wanting explanation.
You glance back at hoseok giving him a smile nodding your head at him.
Jungkook gallop towards hoseok “you can ride me with, come on” he gives him a wide smile adorably.
“Jimin, I will ride with you” hoseok batts no eyes at the knight who pouting at him and get behind jimin who was silently laughing.
Jimin grin as hoseok get behind him stretch his head to get a glimpse of you on the very front “they did not want her to sit with them, earlier a man even said she would no use to the castle. That why he takes her with him”
Hoseok’s face twists upper lips curls into a sneer before falling his eyes on your figure only to see you look back at him the angers melt away as his eyes hold on yours a small smile on his lips.
Jungkook who now beside jimin sees you and wave at you enthusiastically making you laugh a little as you see his whole body shake and returns a wave before looking away. Beside hoseok give him death glare.
As the horse gallops through the narrow path, you see the sunlight breaking through the trees, casting a bright glow on the ground below. The breeze caresses your skin, bringing the scent of the flowers and the greenery something you grown too fond of something that you’re so familiar. As the horse gallops the landscape become more rural you take in the massive fields of rice and people cultivating peacefully, in the tranquil setting with the stalks of rice swaying in the breeze. The two towers however break the tranquil feel of the landscape. It is a tall, imposing structure with guards constantly watching over the area. It is a remainder of the security and protection that the people inside the walls are afforded, even in a peaceful serene setting such as this. The towers provide a sense of security but also a sense of conflict and tension as it seems out of place among the rice fields up ahead stands trees laden with fresh fruits, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze.
As the horse continues the smile on your face slowly starts to dim when the large walls, the dark gigantic walls sperate your life and their life. Your hands tighten on yoongi’s clothes.
There are five guards standing Infront gate of the wall, they quickly open the gate when they see the knight sighing yoongi guide his horse, slowly the horse walk through the gate and the insides seems so…. Dull. A frown manifests its self on your face.
The people move around like they have no life, even though you were spending all of your life you know back home in hoseok home they were so lively, there is chatter and songs and people laugh would echoes they were happy content but the people here are almost miserable, they speak so quietly.
Hoseok too confused to see the state glance at your equal confused face, he turns to jungkook stunned when he sees the male who was so smiley has blank face jimin too. That give hoseok whiplash, they were both too cocky and energetic as him but now they are dull too. The small children watch with curiously as the new commers moves their parents tug their children’s away, if you thought you had torn clothes some of the people had worse. The people’s clothes consist of dull colors.
“Min yoongi?” a voice call, a young man comes running making yoongi turns to him “the commander order to presence you as soon as you get here.” He pants crouching down.
yoongi turns to jimin and jungkook the two nods at them, jungkook get down from his horse walking towards you two.
“Fancy the rest walk with me, y/n?” he gives you his hand understanding the situation you take his hands and let him help you get down as well. Jungkook, one hands on your and other on your waist, he carefully tugs you down.
Hoseok too gets down in lighting speed making jimin startle he starred towards you clasping your hands in his.
“You two take them, I will be back” yoongi instructs with a last glance at everyone he rides towards where the commander would be.
“You alright?” hoseok asks his eyes pinned on yours
You give him a smile squeezing his hands “yeah. I did not expect you come though. What changed your mind?”
You.
He lips curls as he taken your lilted head watching him with a confused look “just wanted to try something new”
You hum believing his words.
Jimin gives hoseok knowing smile he had heard the conversation. “Come on, now.” He walks Infront his hands holding his horse reins jungkook to hurry his horse guiding the it along with jimin.
Hoseok hands tighten as he follows them through the streets of the kingdom, not wanting to lose you.
The commander’s room is large, imposing space. The walls, floors are in deep shade of black and grey marbles, without a window to let the sun light in. the center of the room is a massive, polished wooden table covered with maps and diagrams at the back of the room is towering stones fireplace, with a massive roaring fire flickering behind the commander who sits at the table. He is man of strict discipline and a tough nonsense approach.
He looks up when the sound of sharp footsteps reached his ears but stay silent nor did yoongi said anything.
“I did not think you would do as instructed” the commander spoke finally. “For quick moment I feared for the three of you”
Yoongi knows what the commander is implying yet choose to stay silent making the man sigh “I would never blame you for having your own way of thinking, I know your silence and I also know what the mind of yours plotting”
Yoongi eyes held the commanders unnerving gaze without flinching “I am quite pleased that you listened to royals, that what I wanted to say”
“Will that be all” yoongi finally speaks, no longer wanting to stay with the man.
The commanders face falls at detached voice, he walks towards yoongi “yoongi….my son. Do not forget that we just a puppet for the royal family, the commoners and we are not so different.”
“Not for long” he said making his father sigh yoongi turns on his heels without another word.
Upon reaching the palace you and hoseok were separated, the women were escorted to the kitchen’s hall while the men outside the palace. Jungkook and jimin is with him.
The knight requested everyone to foam a two to three lines as he guided you through the palace, it was contrary to what you previously saw. The hall is large and spacious with walls that are covered in stones purple large curtains hugged the windows sculptures and large flowers pots here and there. Finally, the large door to the kitchen opens and the sounds of peoples chatter and clinging of pots and sizzling sound of fire came.
An older woman with dark hair and tired face greets everyone with a smile few steps away from her is group of girls stands. “Welcome to the palace dears, come on in”. she walks everyone inside the “first of I am grateful for everyone for coming. My name is Agnes, I am the head maid. Let get straight to the point as everyone of you are new, you will not get directly into kitchen. You are all expected to do anything the royals demands, from cleaning the floor to tend the kings and royal and noble family” she said with tight smile making some of you puzzled while giggles at that. “These girls will be assisting you, any of you have any uncertainty do not hesitate to ask” she points to the girls that stands beside her. “You will be staying in the maids’ quarters and your uniform is also arranged if there is any alternation, please inform us”
She nods at the group of girls and motion them meet each other and slowly the both side of girls starts to exchange words soon they split into group two or more.
Emma stands still feeling eyes on her she sees Agnes sympatric eyes on her she gives her an encouraging nod.
Putting on false happy façade she glances around the girls to find anyone that she could help, and finds an odd one standing alone hesitating mingle like rest of them. you stand there, hands nervously moving around puling your small bag.
Emma feet’s takes her to you “hello there, I am Emma”
You say your name with a nervous smile grateful for coming to you “think you can help when I needed?”
“We are in this together, do not be afraid” she answers. “Let me show you the way too your room” nodding you let Emma lead you.
“How long have you been working here?”
Emma thought for minute “three years, but it feels like eternity” she turns her head to you “tell me about your family”
“There is no one expecting me back home”
Emma frown she just wanted to change the subject “forgive me”
“You did not know, it is alright” you give her a smile a sincere one “I never know my mother, my father passed away few years ago”
She nods silently after taking three turns you and her come into hallway where the sunlight barely shines several doors on both side of the walls. “Since you are with, we you can stay with me.”
She opens the second door on the left side the room had a fire place and is big enough to fit twp small beds, two had pillows and a torn yet sewed together blankets. “You can take the bed if you want”
“Oh, I do not want to take away someone else bed. I will be fine on the floor”
She turns away from opening a small dress cabinet “do not fret, it is just two us”
You could hear the sadness coming from her words even if her face is hidden “what happened?”
“She left” Emma turns to you in her hand is folded clothes of two sets she hands them to you “its new I think it will suit you”
You take them from her hands whispering a thank you.

"Do you think we will ever be able to fly?"
Taehyung looked away, turning his head to his right, focusing on you. It was a beautiful day, a few clouds coating the sky and the sun warming the skin: spring was just around the corner. You were both lying down on the grass covered in morning dew, heedless of your slightly damp clothes. Your parents had no knowledge of your whereabouts since you should have been at the castle while they were on a business trip.
His dark eyes seemed to reflect the sunlight - if not emit it.
His face relaxed, and one hand was open to mask the sun to be able to look at you entirely; he gazed at you as one does with sunsets. Every time you spoke, a smile came to light on his lips, something that you hardly noticed since you were constantly lost in your thoughts, in your endless speeches that he - in fact - adored. He would listen to you talk for hours.
"We have conquered the seas, the oceans... Do you think we will never conquer the skies?"
You contemplated for a few moments, gazing at the blue vastness above you; your smallness was considerable compared to everything up there, but you still couldn't look away although frightening it was, feeling so insignificant.
"I really envy birds. They can do whatever they want. If they need to escape, they can..."
"You shouldn't." The man at your side breathed softly, still intent on analysing every detail of your face. "If you lock them in a cage, they become powerless and can do nothing. Whereas you, Y/N, you can change your fate."
Your gaze abruptly saddened, and you bit the inside of your cheek as if to mask that sign of weakness. Unlike Taehyung, you were certain that your fate would never change, and that you would forever be shackled by your status.
"Maybe you're right." You lied, knowing that - in his heart - Taehyung felt the same way.
Things happen for a reason. Or, that's what you're supposed to think when life kicks you in the stomach - luckily, you were never an hopeless optimistic, you always decided to face life, and strike harder.
A few weeks had already passed since your father's assassination and, although the King's guards had searched for the culprit, every attempt of finding them had been unsuccessful. To keep people quiet, and to avoid unnecessary riots, they had decided to hang an innocent for his death.
You had been forced to watch the hanging - being the only heir to the throne - and it was you who had given the verdict to the victim.
Yes, you considered that man a victim, since he had done nothing wrong and was tortured to confess a crime he hadn't committed. Nevertheless, you were used to the tapestry of lies woven by the royalty to prevent any type of repercussions.
He had begged you to let him live, but you could not stop reading the sentence imposed to him. It was your duty afterall, wasn't it? You had to fulfil it, no matter the consequences.
Call their bluff. Say something now, spare his life.
"I therefore sentence you to death by hanging for the conspiracy and murder of the King."
You affirmed desperately attempting to sound convinced of the words pouring out of your mouth. You never even managed to look at him in the eye as you falsely accused him, letting his fate come to such an abrupt end.
"Please, I beg you, Princess. Your soul is still pure, do not dirt your hands with blood."
Although his hands were chained, the man threw himself at your feet, bowing until his nose touched the ground.
"Stop this injustice, in the name of His Highness, your Father."
You swallowed the knot that formed in your throat, frowning and shifting your gaze, unable to look at him.
"Please, no! No, don't do this to me, Princess!"
Two guards had grabbed him by the forearms, beginning to drag him towards what would be his end. You had decided to look away.
"This decision of yours will have consequences, Y/N. May you be cursed in this life and the next, for everyone you love will abandon you."
A sense of uneasiness held you rigid, as a heavy weight had placed down on you. You felt crawls all over your body, prickling at your skin.
He's just a man, he said those things out of fear. You tried to reassure yourself as you beginned to walk away, steps getting faster by the second.
The moment you turned away, letting the man be taken by the guards, you met Taehyung's gaze; his jaw was clenched, and you realized he was restraining himself from unsheathing the sword and save that man. However, he could never do so without endangering you. He - as a royal guard - could not have questioned the Queen's decisions, for that he would have cast doubt on your reputation too.
He made sure you didn't notice his eyes locked on you. He didn't want you to carry another burden on your shoulders - not at that moment. He perfectly knew that you felt like you had failed him.
You walked up the steps to the balcony on which were placed the ceremonial seats used by the royal family for centuries to attend celebrations or, in this case, executions. They faced exactly the wide earthen courtyard, on which the scaffold had been placed: you almost collapsed in your chair so much your legs were shaking.
You sat next to your mother, who kept her gaze straight at the patibulum without ever looking at you. She had said that - seeing your face - reminded her of her husband and that your presence made her nauseous.
"I'm surprised you managed not to stutter."
Her tone was harsh, just as it had always been. You had no fond memories of your mother, all you reminisced was the way she belittled everything you did.
The only time you had seen her differently, was when she had learned about your father's death. You always thought that you and her were as different as you were incompatible. You believed you had greater sensitivity… But of the two, you were the one who hadn't shed a single tear.
Your mind was as if barricaded in the illusion that nothing had truly happened. You couldn't know it yet, but that apparent good fortune would reveal itself as a double-edged sword sooner than you thought.
Your mother hadn't apologised to you for what she had said - you couldn't even understand what she was feeling. The man she had married, the man she loved more than her own life, was gone forever without even saying goodbye.
Now, she was doing the same thing to that innocent's man life. Ironic, wasn't it?
"That man is innocent." You replied monotonously with your eyes locked on the marble floor. You didn't dare raise your head, fearing to see that man getting murdered in front of you, fearing to see those eyes again.
You heard the crowd cheering and clapping, and you immediately knew.
"Was." She corrected you like she was speaking to a child, "No one cares, as long as our interest is satisfied. You too should think this way, to be at least an ounce of what your Father has been."
One thing you loved was to hide in the greenhouse, located only a few steps away from the main garden. The structure had existed for several years, and was now completely abandoned. Ivy had now completely covered the large windows, allowing light to enter only through the ceiling.
The warm rays of sunlight shyly caressed the plants. Nevertheless, the most distinctive thing about that place was the presence of a nest of doves. By now, the greenhouse had become their home, and you were nothing a frequent guest.
You were crouched down so that your knees were touching your chest, and you were pouring water into the soil - a small sprout was starting to grow. You were looking at its light yellow shades, that made you wonder if it would ever change colour - it was so delicate, making you feel desperate to protect it.
As you carefully caressed the leaves, you watched your hands. You blinked multiple times rubbing your eyes, feeling like something had gotten in one of them; as your sight recovered, and the blurriness disappeared, you watched your hands again - now, you froze.
Your hands were trembling, palms right in front of you, as you saw blood covering them. You started breathing unsteadily until a hand rested on your shoulder.
You were about to shriek, yet when you turned around your heart seemed to relax and beat normally again.
Taehyung slightly bent his head to the side, watching you with a questioning look on his face, frowning. You, on the other hand, brought a hand to your chest, letting out a relieved sigh.
"Please don't do that again. I didn't hear you coming."
"Actually, I called out to you several times." He now began to shout your name as if to show what he had done to get your attention, so you shoved him slightly.
"Oh, stop it." You giggled, and his smile grew.
The dark-haired man looked around several times, eyes scanning every detail of the place to make sure there was no one there. As soon as he made sure you were completely alone, he quickly placed a soft kiss on your lips.
"How are you feeling, love?"
Being in his company always made you nervous, because it wasn't often that you were alone and - above all - Taehyung was the most unpredictable person you knew.
The longer he kept his gaze on you, the more you felt yourself consumed like wax exposed to the heat of a match.
You knew very well that, at this point, he wanted you to be honest with him: he still didn't know about Jimin and what you had been told about the wedding, let alone mentioned what the man accused of your father's murder had told you a few days earlier.
You lied to Taehyung, and it wasn't because you didn't trust him, but the reason was very simple: you didn't want to make his life more complicated than it already was. Knowing you, you thought, was the greatest of all his problems.
"I am fine, the flowers are blooming."
It was a half-truth - or a half-lie, but you were really enthusiastic for Spring to arrive. When the flowers blossomed, you finally perceived the colours of the world.
The man before you, however, did not seem entirely satisfied with the answer, as his mouth twisted slightly.
"You know that's not what I'm referring to, Y/N."
His voice was calm, but his expression was stern.
"I really don't know what you are trying to tell me, Tae. I am fine, I am recovering."
"Y/N, your father was murdered and a few days ago you witnessed the death of a man, you are not recovering."
He had a point, anyone in the same situation as you would have thrown themselves to the ground, pulled out their hair, and cried endlessly. But despite experiencing pain and an incredible sense of guilt, somehow you were incapable of externalizing it.
Every time you closed your eyes, you saw that man's face, all you did was dream about him at night. He repeated the same sentence, while his eyes seemed to pop out of their sockets.
May you be cursed in this life and the next, for everyone you love will abandon you.
"It's all my fault, I could have saved him, I-"
"What could you have done, Y/N? Turn against your mother and the Kingdom? He was only a man, nothing more."
"He wasn't just a man!" You replied, raising your tone as if to defend the man you too had failed. "He was an innocent man, he had a family, Taehyung!"
"Y/N, I understand."
"No, you don't! I let my father's death and the wedding cloud my judgement…"
You realised it almost as quickly as he did. Your eyes widened in sheer panic and before you could even think about it, one of your hands went to cover your mouth - but it was too late.
"What are you talking about? What wedding?"
You remained silent as Taehyung began to run a hand over his face, stroking his skin until it almost reddened.
"Answer me, which marriage are you talking about, Y/N."
Betrayal can stab you in the back any time; it can take your breath away.
But you were witnessing it in the eyes of the one you loved, and you only had yourself to blame.
"Tae, I am so sorry, I…" You stuttered unable to form a proper sentence.
"Allow me to interfere."
All at once, both you and Taehyung turned towards the voice breaking in seemingly out of nowhere.
"What this sweet princess is trying to explain to you is that she will be marrying me."
Taehyung glared at the newly-introduced figure with hostility, pure, undiluted anger stirred within him.
"And who the fuck are you?" He hissed between gritted teeth.
The stranger took a few steps forward, and it was then that a few streams of light lit up his face. He looked much younger, but his figure was well formed and muscular. As soon as his chocolate-brown eyes rested on you, he smiled, showing bunny-like teeth.
"Jeon Jungkook, delighted to make your acquaintance."
