Sanctuary - A Yoon2Seok MerMay Fic
Title: Sanctuary
Ship: Yoon2Seok
Rating: Teen & Up
Word Count: 16.5k
Hoseok and Seokjin run a marine sanctuary where they care for marine animals that are sick/injured to be released back into the ocean. They are shocked when they find a man with a fish tail passed out on the rock barrier that borders their sanctuary. What’s worse: even the merman has no idea who he is.
SNIPPET
The sun is just coming up over the horizon as Hoseok goes out to check on the outdoor enclosure. It’s his turn to make sure the marine animals there are fed and doing well. This is where they watch their patients who no longer need to be isolated (either due to illness, injury, or type of creature) before releasing them back into the wild. There’s still a fog along the rocky shore so Hoseok wears a light jacket to keep off the breeze with his t-shirt, short, and water shoes. Just in case he gets too close to the water and gets splashed.
“Good morning,” he says cheerily as he steps out onto the little dock to get a closer look at Sunhee, the dolphin he and Seokjin rescued after she was caught by fishers and her dorsal fin was injured. “You look very healed up,” he compliments her as she comes by to say good morning. Or, more properly, to get the fish from the bucket he’s carrying. “I’ll talk to Jinnie, but you can probably go home in a day or two!”
Sunhee gives a wet blow from her blowhole and Hoseok happily gives her the fish. He has a few other patients that Hoseok checks on in the enclosure with her before he stands up and gives a big stretch, his hands high over his head, as he looks out over the rocks that separate the enclosure from the ocean. Waves splash along the barrier, the remnants of a storm that came through the night before.
Hoseok is about to turn and go back into the sanctuary when something catches his eye. A spot of something dark that the waves wash over that is definitely not rock. At first he thinks it may be some seaweed that has washed up during the storm, or maybe the tangled remnants of a discarded fishing net. He almost disregards it, but if it is a net he’s going to want to go bring it in so he squints his eyes to try and get a better look. That’s when he realizes that the something dark is hair attached to a pale figure washed up on the rocks. Panic lances through his chest.
“Hyung!” Hoseok cries out to his fellow marine biologist, hoping he can hear him before remembering he’s got a walkie talkie strapped to his hip. Even as he runs off the little dock and up over the rock enclosure, he’s pulling the walkie off. “Seokjin,” he says into the device after he pushes the button and holds it for a three count, trying not to let his fear ruin his ability to communicate. “Get a first aid kit, we may have a diver washed up on the outdoor enclosure!”
As he tries to carefully make his way along the rocks, Seokjin answers back. “Should I call the paramedics?”
“Probably. I’m going over to check right now, but they look unconscious,” Hoseok replies.
“Grabbing my kit and my phone. Careful, Hobi,” comes Jin’s message as Hoseok makes his way towards the person.

summary: In the crazy of it all, Yoongi is just making sure the ones he loves make it through this.
⇢ day twenty-nine of 31 days of halloween
⇢ chapter one of to busan we go [ABANDONED]
It’s way too early in the morning for this, but Yoongi is going to have to deal with it anyway.
Firefighters roar past in their trucks, heading for the large plume of smoke coming from Yoongi’s left. Yoongi blinks as they go past, exhausted beyond belief. Hyoseon is kicking the back of his seat in sleep, her brows scrunched together in discomfort. Seokjin sits beside her, hands running through her hair as he tries to soothe her back into a dreamless haze, failing completely. Yoongi tries his best to smile genuinely when Seokjin meets his gaze in the rearview mirror, but even Yoongi isn’t fooled.
Jeongah sits in the passenger’s seat beside him, still on the phone with her mother. Yoongi doesn’t like thinking about Jimin often, and he knows that his lovers don’t like to either, but when Jeongah had insisted that she wanted to see her mother for her birthday, Seokjin had relented and said it was the least they could do since they were all too busy preparing for the new baby. Still, it isn’t like any of them (except for Jeongah) are actually happy about the prospect of seeing Jimin.
Yoongi watches as the last of the fire trucks speed by before he pushes on the gas pedal and carefully steers the car towards the train station once the light has turned green again. How he wishes he could be curled up in bed right now, surrounded by soft, warm blankets. Curved around Hyoseon’s back with Seokjin’s knobbly fingers in his hair is Yoongi’s favorite place to be and instead, he's driving to the train station at the asscrack of dawn.
But even he has to admit that making his daughter happy is much more important than sleep.
They make it to the train station in record time and Yoongi parks in the car garage across the street from it. Jeongah is silent as she climbs out of the car and dons her backpack, looking back to grab hold of Seokjin's hand, ignoring the hand Yoongi had offered her. Seokjin gives him an apologetic smile and notches his head in Hyoseon's direction. Yoongi rushes to her side, helping her out of the car and grabbing her purse before he double checks he has his phone and keys and they begin to make their way towards the station, Yoongi locking the car behind them as they do.
It's quiet in the early morning of Seoul, barely any cars driving on the road. Yoongi basks in the silence and the purple-orange haze of the sun beginning to rise. He forgets sometimes how beautiful the city can be when man isn't there to destroy and pollute it with all his noise and chatter. Hyoseon leans her head on Yoongi's shoulder and Yoongi smiles down at her, careful not to look into her eyes.
Yoongi isn't very sure when it began to happen, but shortly after Jimin had left them, Yoongi detached himself from his lovers and threw himself into work. In the fallout, he'd lost his connection with his daughter as well and Yoongi knows that it's entirely his fault, but that doesn't make it any easier to handle. And despite his awful behavior, Seokjin and Hyoseon have stayed.
Yoongi doesn't deserve them.
But he'll stay. If they still want him, he'll stay and take whatever comfort they offer him.
Seokjin gets their tickets once they reach the ticket booth and Yoongi hands over a few bills, not caring about the amount so long as they got the best seats available. With Hyoseon being pregnant and all, Yoongi wants to make sure that their unborn son isn't put under any unnecessary stress and considering that Yoongi gets paid a lot, it's really no big deal to pay so much for the First Class tickets. Seokjin grabs the four tickets and thanks the man in the booth, pulling Jeongah after him when they turn to walk onto the platform and find their train to Busan.
Jeongah boards first, Seokjin following after her then turning around to help Hyoseon on. Yoongi doesn't expect for Seokjin to offer him a hand either, but he's pleasantly surprised when his lover grabs his wrist and helps Yoongi onto the train anyway. They switch positions then, Seokjin guiding Hyoseon to her seat with a firm hand on her lower back while Yoongi and Jeongah linger behind them, too caught up in their silent struggle to notice much else.
Yoongi has a hand extended towards his daughter, palm flat and fingers calloused. Jeongah eyes it warily before peering up into his face and taking his hand slowly. Yoongi breathes a sigh of relief and leads her towards their seats. Seokjin smiles as they walk past and settle into the seats in the aisle across from them. Jeongah leans back into her chair and looks past Yoongi towards the window, settling in for the long ride ahead of them. Hyoseon is asleep again and Seokjin is stroking her hair, a tender smile on his face as he gazes down at her.
And Yoongi can admit that Hyoseon is beautiful. With her heart-shaped lips, her heart-shaped face, and her pretty brown eyes, anyone would have to be crazy to not think her so. Yoongi watches as Hyoseon shifts in sleep, the first ray of sunlight falling across her cheekbones.
She's absolutely stunning like this. Asleep, early dawn breaking on her face and a peaceful expression spread across her features. Yoongi sometimes forgets just how much she means to him, just how much Seokjin means to him, and how much Jimin used to mean to all of them.
God, Yoongi really has been a complete fucking asshole during these past couple of months. He wonders why Hyoseon and Seokjin have stayed with him, despite his behavior and his blatant way of avoiding them.
Yoongi does not deserve the love and kindness Seokjin and Hyoseon offer him with their everything and never expect anything from him in return.
He is such a horrible human being! He should justー
Yoongi's phone rings then and Yoongi hastens to answer it in order to not wake Hyoseon. He barely spares the caller ID a glance before he's holding his cellphone up to his ear and mutters out what he hopes is something similar to a greeting.
The call is mostly a blur and Yoongi is mildly irritated when he finds out the fire trucks from earlier were due to a strike at Ansan Industrial Park.
"Prepare a situation report for me. I'll be back after lunch, maybe," Yoongi mumbles, rubbing a hand over his face, slightly irritated and annoyed now that he has to go into work today.
Yoongi hangs up after that, putting his phone on vibrate as he settles back into his seat. Jeongah is staring accusingly at him, arms crossed over her chest and Yoonngi blanches at the display. An apology is already on the tip of his tongue when Seokjin leans over and pats her head comfortingly.
"Appa is having a problem at work, Jeongie. You know he specifically took the day off for your birthday. Don't be angry," Seokjin whispers, another hand rubbing Hyoseon's stomach as she begins to stir at the sound of his voice.
Yoongi blinks, dumbfounded but smiles and nods when Jeongah looks back at him. "It's true, baby. I fought tooth and nail for this day off."
Jeongah merely sighs and turns in her seat, angling her body towards Seokjin who's running his crooked fingers through her hair, humming a lullaby. Yoongi mouths a thank you at his elder lover, gratitude written all over his face and Seokjin nods, smiling sympathetically.
Yoongi really doesn't deserve this kindness.
The train powers up then and Yoongi can't say much when Jeongah takes out her coloring book and lays it flat across her knees, flipping through the pages. Yoongi watches her for awhile, feeling that drowsiness of sleep encroaching on him. He had gotten up early today, much too early for even him and Seokjin is wide awake, drinking a coffee he packed, so if Yoongi does end up napping, he knows no harm will come to them.
As the train begins to move, Yoongi tangles his fingers around the straps of Jeongah's yellow backpack and hums appreciatively when Seokjin strokes his jaw and eases him into the comfort of sleep.
Yoongi jerks awake sometime later.
It takes him a few seconds to realize he's alone in the row of seats.
Jeongah's backpack lays forgotten on the seat, Yoongi's fingers still somehow tangled in the straps of it. Her coloring book is sticking out from the opened end of the backpack and Yoongi wordlessly zips it close, picking the backpack up as he stands, searching the aisles for any signs of his family.
Car three is void of any Min household members and frantically, Yoongi begins to walk towards car two. Maybe they've all just taken a trip to the bathroom, he thinks, Hyoseon is pregnant after all so she has to go often and usually Jeongah goes along to keep her mother company.
And the attendant passes by him, going towards car two, whispering frantically into the walkie-talkie he holds up to his mouth.
"Is she breathing?" Yoongi manages to hear.
Yoongi doesn't know what the person on the other end responds with, but soon the attendant is muttering. "Is it airborne?"
The other person on the end of the line answers, her voice shrill and panicked. "No, but her seizures are uncontrollable. Sir, what should I do?"
Yoongi immediately turns and follows after the attendant who is picking his pace up as he almost runs towards car four. His phone rings and Yoongi answers immediately, his eyes catching on the glowing screens of the televisions in the train car, all them of them tuned into the news channel where scenes of a riot are playing out.
"I'll have to call you back," Yoongi immediately mutters when the call connects.
"But sir, the riot," the voice of his assistant rings tinnily through the phone.
Yoongi frowns and practically growls his earlier statement, annoyed that work is keeping him from finding out who exactly is having a medical crisis on the train. "I said 'I'll have to call you back."
Yoongi hangs up then, cutting off the nervous pleas of his assistant and keeps following the attendant.
Her seizures are uncontrollable...
Yoongi winces when an image of Jeongah shaking on the floor, unable to breathe as a seizure wracks her small body accompanies the words of the panicked woman on the walkie-talkie. Then a new image of Hyoseon gripping her stomach and frothing at the mouth follows after it and Yoongi picks up his pace, frantic now to find out where his daughter and the mother of his children are at.
The assistant starts to jog when he gets no further response from the woman on the walkie-talkie and down along the other train cars, Yoongi can see some sort of commotion breaking out. People watch him as he runs past them, curious as to why two men are rapidly moving through the train. Yoongi keeps moving, not pausing to take a breath when he can hear Seokjin calling his name behind him.
Then he freezes and looks back once he realizes that Seokjin called him.
Seokjin stands in front of the bathrooms between cars five and four, the door open behind him as if he'd just stepped out. Yoongi blinks, a little startled and realizes that Jeongah and Hyoseon aren't with him so he turns around and keeps moving, holding up a hand to silently tell the elder to hold on a second. Yoongi opens the bathroom doors beside him, finding them both empty and then he sprints into the next car, set on searching the bathrooms there as well. But those bathrooms are void of any signs of Jeongah and Hyoseon as well.
In car six, people begin to run past him, making their way towards the cars in the front with screams accompanying them. Yoongi pushes through, not caring about what may be going on, but then pauses once he catches sight of what looks like a fight in cars eight or nine.
Yoongi peers ahead, moving slowly now. The attendant from before is running through car seven, pushing people out of their seats and telling them to run. Another attendant, maybe the woman from the walkie-talkie is running behind him, her movements wild and her face bloody. Yoongi gapes in horror when the woman jumps onto the attendant and throws him to the ground in a struggle. More people are screaming and running now, but Yoongi can't take his eyes off the scene before him.
He doesn't feel the urge to run until the attendant stands back up and hangs his head awkwardly, a bloody bite very clear on his neck. They make eye contact through the cars and then he's running, a growl emitting from somewhere deep in his throat. Yoongi flees, barely pausing to notice that Jeongah is standing near the bathroom doors he'd just checked and grabs her by the arm, hauling her up into his arms as he runs. He runs through car six but is greeted by a deranged man in car five and falls to the side, kicking at the man when he encroaches on them. Yoongi stands up again and keeps running.
Seokjin is now standing in front of a bathroom door between cars four and three and Yoongi yells at him to run once he's made it into car four. Hyoseon steps outs of the bathroom in front of Seokjin and whines about the bathrooms being gross but freezes when she sees another deranged man attacking a woman. Seokjin approaches them, ignoring the fact that Yoongi is screaming at him to run. And the man turns on him, the woman going limp in his arms and Yoongi runs past, still screaming at him to run and takes Hyoseon's arm, dragging her along with him.
They run into the third car now, where they'd been seated before and Hyoseon pulls on Yoongi's grip, putting her foot down on waiting for Seokjin to join them. Seokjin is currently kicking the man off him, the woman now trying to make a move on him but Seokjin is fast and dodges, shooting up and away already sprinting past Hyoseon while Yoongi has just made it into car two where everyone is now holed up. Yoongi sets Jeongah down, pushing her behind him and sweats as his two lovers run towards him. He didn't dare look back as he was running but now that he has to face it, he's glad he didn't.
The mob of bodies following Seokjin and Hyoseon is alarming and frightening. Long gone is the thought of a medical emergency in Yoongi's mind as he watches his lovers run for their lives. The passengers behind him are screaming at him to close the door. His mind is blank as Hyoseon stumbles and Seokjin catches her, the mob almost upon them now.
They're not gonna make it, Yoongi thinks to himself. They're not going to make it.
He doesn't have to think about it when he steps forward and closes the door of car two. Hyoseon looks up at him as he does, her eyes accusing and Yoongi's heart breaks because he knows this is the last straw. Seokjin punches a man behind him, pushing her forward, urging her to run as he punches a woman away and then they're running again. But Yoongi knows it's over.
They can put up with him being emotionally distant and they can put up with him avoiding them by working so many goddamn hours, but he knows they won't be able to put up with him deciding to let them die so that he and his daughter can have a chance at living.
Because he knows that by closing the door he's doomed them. Monsters he'd only ever seen in films are chasing his lovers and he's helpless to the plea and the tiny voice of hope that berates him for closing the door.
Miraculously, they make it.
Seokjin shoves the glass door open and pushes Hyoseon in and Jeongah is there, crying and pulling her mother close. Seokjin slams the door close behind him, wincing when bodies thud into it and Seokjin uses all his might to keep the door closed.
Yoongi observes it all, detached from reality as the dread settles in. The bodies keep thumping into the door, wild and savage and thoughtless.
None of them make any moves to use the handle to open the door.
"How do you lock this!" Seokjin yells at him.
Yoongi blinks, still not really comprehending what's going on.
"Let it go," Yoongi murmurs.
Seokjin shoots him with a gaze that can only convey the words, you must be fucking with me.
Yoongi clears his throat and says a little stronger, "I don't think they know how to work it. Let the door go."
It's a wild guess and Yoongi is more than likely wrong and will end up getting them all killed and he doubts that Seokjin even trusts him anymore, but the elder nods and lets go of the door. The bodies continue to throw themselves at it, and still, no moves are made to open the glass door that separates them from the zombies.
"They only reacted when they saw us," Yoongi says, with no idea where he's pulling this from.
Immediately, Hyoseon grabs a water bottle and throws it onto the glass, grabbing an abandoned newspaper as she takes pages out and smooths them down. The thudding stops and Yoongi can see through the newspapers the shadows of the zombies. They begin to amble away, mindless and slow, and Yoongi sighs in relief, freezing when Hyoseon punches him in the face.
Pain explodes across his jaw and he collapses onto the floor, in awe of just how much strength Hyoseon can pack in one punch. Jeongah cries out and takes Hyoseon's hands, pushing at her mother to step back and away from Yoongi. Yoongi looks up bewildered as Seokjin pulls him up and tenderly fingers at his jaw before nodding and turning to subdue Hyoseon.
"You asshole!" Hyoseon spits out. "All these months, we've forgiven you for being distant! For staying away and keeping to yourself and we loved you anyway! And you had the fucking nerve to abandon us! Us! The mother of your children and your boyfriend of fourteen fucking years! Fuck you, Min Yoongi!"
"Hyoseon-ah," Seokjin murmurs, hands on her shoulders as he ignores the stares they receive from the other survivors. "Right now is not the time. Let this go. We can discuss this later when we're all safe."
"NO!" Hyoseon roars, pushing Seokjin away as she jabs a finger in Yoongi's direction, her voice full of loathing and a hatred that Yoongi had never known she'd been harboring. "Fuck you too, Kim Seokjin! You've been defending him all this time. You've given me excuses and lied to our daughter about where he's been because you're blinded by the man you used to know! He isn't your childhood best friend anymore! Why do you think Jimin left, huh? I loved Jimin with all my heart! But she couldn't stand him anymore! She left because of him! And then he left us as if it wasn't his fault Jimin had left! Now, he tried to kill us and you're still defending him! How could you? Do our lives really mean nothing to you, Seokjin? Does the life of our unborn son mean absolutely nothing to you?"
Yoongi blinks, stunned. He's known his lovers for many years and during those years, he's learned that Hyoseon doesn't have a hateful bone in her body. But she's delirious with anger now and Yoongi's jaw stings, a bruise probably already beginning to form on his pale skin. He ignores the others in the train car and instead takes a step forward to say something, anything, to Hyoseon to make her understand, but whatever nonsense he was going to spout is cut off by Seokjin pushing him back and puffing his chest out when Hyoseon starts to bang her fists on him.
"You've made me go through so much shit for him! So much! Even when we first got together. It was always, Yoongi-this and Yoongichi-that and Hyoseon, don't forget that Yoongichi is allergic to mushrooms when you order pizza! Well, I'm tired of it! Once upon a time, I loved him too! I really truly did, but now I don't feel anything for him but hate and resentment. He took my Jiminnie, Oppa. He made her leave us. Leave me. And then he left us to die," Hyoseon shouts into Seokjin's chest, her fists now pitifully striking him as she starts to lose steam, Jeongah still clinging to her like the little girl she really is. "He doesn't love us anymore, Jinnie. When will you realize that?"
"Hyoseon, you're upset and I understand. Our lives weren't the only ones at risk and Yoongi did what he thought was right at the time and if you don't want to be with him anymore then that's understandable too. But this really isn't the time to yell at the top of your lungs and throw a fit over it. We're all scared and we're all bound to do things to save our own skin. Please calm down," Seokjin whispers.
"Mama," Jeongah sobs into Hyoseon's cardigan, her hands fisting the material roughly. "Mama, please. You're scaring me."
Hyoseon draws Jeongah close, holding her for a while as the other passengers lose interest and begin filing themselves into car one. Yoongi watches this all in a daze, stepping around and leaning against the wall when Seokjin manages to make Hyoseon sit down with Jeongah beside her. Yoongi can vaguely hear a man with a bossy voice yell from the front car that the conductor needs to stop in Cheonan, no matter what orders the conductor may have received from control center. Jeongah tugs on his arm, her little face anxious and scared and Yoongi suddenly feels the inexplicable urge to cry.
"Mommy's not answering," Jeongah whispers.
Yoongi crouches down and pulls his daughter into his arms. If she cried into his chest and held on tightly to the lapels of his jacket, he acted none the wise about it.
The train begins to slow as they drive into another station, but they don't stop. And Yoongi can see why when he stands and looks to his right, watching with horror as zombies throw themselves at the train windows, attacking people outside on the platform. Yoongi keeps Jeongah's face pressed into his stomach and holds her a little tighter until the train picks up speed again.
Seokjin takes his elbow, pulling Yoongi into his side as they stand huddled over the seat Hyoseon had managed to grab. Hyoseon doesn't look at him but when she pulls gummy worms out of her purse and eats a few for Sleepy (the nickname they'd given their unborn son because Seokjin was taking too long to decide on a name) then silently offers one to Yoongi, Yoongi knows that she isn't as angry with him as before.
"I'm sorry," Yoongi mumbles, his eyes focused on the top of Jeongah's head. "I'm so sorry. I love you both, I really do. I'm an asshole and I'm sorry. You both deserve more than me."
Seokjin thumbs away the few stray tears that Yoongi lets loose and Hyoseon takes one of his hands, pulling him down until he's face level with her and kisses him in between his brows.
"I'm still mad at you," she murmurs. "But for right now, let's focus on surviving this mess."
Yoongi nods, accepting the gummy worm she holds up to his mouth and easily folds himself into Seokjin's embrace while Jeongah clings to them all.
When they climb off the train in Daejeon station, Yoongi remains calm as a dirty, homeless man follows closely behind them.
Yoongi had talked to a reporter friend of his, Yoo Kihyun, to get them special transportation out of the city escorted by a team of military men lead by Kihyun's boyfriend. The same man had been in the row of seats Yoongi had held his phone conversation but thought nothing of it when he took a closer look and saw that the man was extremely rattled. So Yoongi thinks nothing of it now as well.
At least not until he pushes the barrier to the side and drags his tiny family to the right with the man a few steps behind them.
"Main square is that way," Yoongi pauses to throw over his shoulder once they've reached the hallway. "Just follow the others."
"I think I'll be going with you," the man answers, his voice a deep rumbling octave higher than Yoongi's own voice. "I heard your call. About pulling you four out. I know the others go in quarantine."
"Yoongi," Seokjin hisses disapprovingly.
"I'll go tell the others," Jeongah murmurs, taking a step forward until Yoongi pulls her abruptly back.
Yoongi crouches down so they're eye-to-eye. "You don't have to."
"Of course she does!" Seokjin shouts in the empty hall, his voice echoing slightly.
"Forget them! We're on our own," Yoongi shouts back, standing up to glare at the elder.
Jeongah grips Yoongi's jacket, pulling on the ends of it. "You only care about yourself...That's why Mommy left."
Yoongi blanches, going still when the homeless man waves his arms and runs down the hall towards a soldier who's slowly making their way towards them. Yoongi stands, following after him, only pausing when his phone begins to vibrate in his pocket. He looks at the Caller ID and finds that it's Kihyun's boyfriend, Lieutenant Lee Minhyuk.
"Lt. Lee," Yoongi answers.
"Yoongi-ssi!"
"I'm in Daejeon."
"Is everything okay? I can't contact my men," Minhyuk yells into the phone.
Yoongi freezes, staring at the soldier who stumbles forward and now that Yoongi's really looking he realizes that the solder is bleeding and limping and there's a rumble of noise approaching them quickly. Yoongi looks behind him when Jeongah begins to cry, the train passengers from before being chased by a horde of zombies in military uniform. Two military zombies fall fast upon Yoongi's family and he hangs up the phone, running in the opposite direction towards them.
Seokjin rolls his shoulders and punches the zombie in the face when it's near enough. Hyoseon picks up Jeongah, dropping the yellow backpack and runs, heading for the doors they'd walked through calmly earlier after getting off the train.
"Go!" Yoongi shouts when it seems like Seokjin is going to wait for him.
Seokjin nods and runs after the girls, punching another zombie out of his way as Yoongi picks up the pace and follows after them. It catches him completely off guard when a body slams into him, knocking Yoongi to the ground.
Yoongi struggles with the zombie, his face being splattered with spit and blood and what he hopes isn't chunks of meat as the zombie on top of him tries to bite him.
"Hurry!" Yoongi hears Seokjin yell from in front of him.
Yoongi doesn't dare look up to see what the elder is doing. Instead, he grabs a fallen book nearby and shoves the thick spine of it into the zombie's mouth, kicking him in the groin and shouting in frustration when that does nothing. A dirty green jacket is thrown over the zombie's head then and Yoongi rolls onto his knees, shooting into a sprint, the homeless-looking man from before ahead of him, missing his jacket.
"HURRY!" Seokjin screams at him and Yoongi does, his feet pounding against the linoleum floor as he sprints towards the glass door that Seokjin and three high school boys are holding open, arms waving frantically as they wait for them to run through.
Yoongi skids as he pulls on the brakes, turning on his heel to help Seokjin lock the glass doors. They struggle for what feels like forever, an endless mass of bodies slamming into the glass. It starts to crack under all the strain but finally Seokjin locks the glass doors and they step back, gazing at the mindless monsters before them. More zombies join the crowd at the doors and Yoongi panics, tugging on the sleeve of Seokjin's blazer to get him moving.
They start to run, adrenaline pumping through Yoongi's veins. He's not sure about what happened to Jeongah and Hyoseon, but he knows that whatever may happen, Hyoseon is perfectly capable of handling it. The younger boys from before run ahead of them, clearly athletic and more in-shape than Yoongi has ever been in his entire life. The doors creak and groan behind them and Yoongi is fully aware of the fact that they won't last long before breaking under all the pressure.
They run down the stairs then, Yoongi's lungs burning with every breath, his feet aching as he moves, but he's determined to keep moving, determined to stay alive. Seokjin is close behind him, a hand tangled into the back of Yoongi's jacket for no other reason than to show his relief for Yoongi making it out of there alive.
The sound of glass breaking behind them pushes Yoongi to run even faster, his legs aching with every movement as his feet violently strike the ground underneath. A crude, loud buzz of different zombies growling sounds out behind them and Seokjin runs ahead of Yoongi, taking him by the wrist to lead the way down the stairs. They falter when two of the high school boys are assaulted by zombies, easily being taken down and bitten. The one spared falls back, stumbling and landing on his ass, clearly in shock.
When Yoongi and Seokjin finally reach him, another zombie is already running their way but Yoongi pulls at the boy's arms, shouting at him to run and they're sprinting down the platform then, horrified to find the train already setting off without them. They run alongside the train, barely sparing a glance back and somewhere in the back of Yoongi's mind he thinks that maybe it would just be easier to let the zombies have at him.
The boy jumps onto the train, finding himself an open door and Yoongi snaps out of his depressing thoughts to jump in after him, a hand already extended for Seokjin to take.
"Hyung, hurry!"
Yoongi watches in horror as Seokjin veers to the left and picks up a policeman's small ballistic shield and baton and then runs back in the direction towards a confused Yoongi who's still hanging out of the open compartment.
"Watch out!" Seokjin yells and Yoongi has barely enough time to look over his shoulder to see the three zombies that are making a beeline for him.
Seokjin strikes the first one in the head, easily making it go down as he continues to run and strikes the next two. They go down just as easily and Yoongi checks both sides before leaning out again and holding an arm for his lover.
Miraculously, Seokjin makes it and Yoongi is more than relieved to see when the platform ends and the train picks up speed.
The collapse right there beside the entrance, gathering their breath and Yoongi gasps for air, his sides and lungs burning with every intake of much-needed oxygen. Seokjin lies on his stomach, groaning quietly as the boy with them leans against the wall, hands on his knees. Yoongi is glad to see that none of them were bitten, but it still doesn't ease the discomfort of not knowing what happened to his daughter and Hyoseon.
Attention everyone!
Yoongi jumps at the sound of the conductor's voice, his chest still heaving as his body comes down from the mass of adrenaline it'd produced. He thinks he might throw up but he pays attention to what the conductor is saying anyway. Seokjin sits up and props himself against the wall, using it to help him stand up as he stumbles in the empty car, collapsing in one of the seats. The boy follows after him, patting his pockets frantically as he too claims a seat.
For the safety of those on board, we won't be making any stops. We're headed straight for Busan.
Yoongi swallows the bile rising up in his throat and pushes himself up, almost toppling when his knees shake. But he grips the wall and also manages to get himself into the bathroom area between the cars. Yoongi pulls his phone out and calls Jeongah's cell, startled when the boy with them begins to cry into his phone, almost forgetting that he himself is making a call as well.
"I'm sorry. No one else made it! I'm sorry, Jinwoo," the boy wails, a hand in his hair as tears run down his face.
Jeongah's cell goes straight to voicemail and Yoongi is about to try Hyoseon's when Seokjin shoots up out of his seat and turns towards Yoongi.
"Jeongah, why are you answering? Where's your mom?" Seokjin's lips vibrate with how fast he manages to spit his words out and Yoongi crowds into the elder's space, a hand twisting itself into the sleeve of his lover's blazer.
"We're in the train's restroom!" Jeongah shouts.
Seokjin has his arm around Yoongi's waist now, drawing the elder closer for comforting the both of them. "Restroom? Of which car?"
"Well..." Jeongah trails off, unsure of which car they're in and Yoongi gnaws on his bottom lip, worry etched into every line of his face. "It's..."
There's a static noise as the phone jostles around on Jeongah's end and Yoongi is almost shaking with anxiety.
Hyoseon's voice rings out from the phone now, loud, true, and as lively as ever. "Car thirteen! Get your ass over here!"
"Baby! Heyー" Seokjin begins to say, and then the call is disconnected and Yoongi is left to stare into the eyes of the man he's known for almost all his life.
Very, very quietly, Seokjin murmurs. "Restroom. Car thirteen."
Yoongi looks past the elder, his eyes finding the number of the car they're in.
The number nine stares mockingly back at him.
His eyes trail down to see the zombies in the next car over, milling about aimlessly. Yoongi steps out of Seokjin's embrace and moves forward, not really thinking about what he's about to do, but Seokjin stops him with a hand on his shoulder.
"Gonna pass through?" Seokjin asks, a strange, amused smile on his lips. "Let's say you get through and rescued them. How do you intend on getting back?"
The boy stands up behind them, wiping away the last of his tears as he pulls down someone's bag and opens it, pulling out tape and rope. "In car fifteen, people are gathered there."
The boy pulls out more ropes and leather straps, all of it looking like hiking equipment. He grabs a slab of leather and wraps it around his wrist, not looking up. Seokjin tilts his head curiously to the side before sighing and taking off his scarf. His blazer comes off next and Yoongi can't help but admire the slow revealing of the beautiful line of Seokjin's broad shoulders.
"Only four cars away," Seokjin says, and Yoongi looks up, meeting his gaze. "I'll lead."
Seokjin looks at the boy then. "You in the middle."
Beautiful brown eyes that have seen the many sides of Min Yoongi over the course of some odd twenty years meet his own and Yoongi can't help but think about how glorious Seokjin looks like in this moment. "And you in the back."
Yoongi takes off his jacket and wraps it around his arm as Seokjin grabs other abandoned bags and digs out clothes, wrapping them around his bare arms. The boy throws tape their way and Seokjin is soon decked out in shabby looking armor, his muscles bulging in the black material of his t-shirt. Yoongi tapes his jacket down and three other shirts he found and then catches the police equipment Seokjin tosses at him. The boy holds a wooden bat in his hands, his armor minimal and barely seen under his windbreaker.
Seokjin rolls his shoulders and cracks his knuckles loudly, looking at the boy first before he meets Yoongi's gaze again. "Block anyone attacking from the rear."
Yoongi nods and takes a deep breath as Seokjin walks towards the train car's glass door.
They're going to rescue their children and their lover and nothing, not even a few violently deranged zombies, is going to stop them.

i'd wait forever and a day (for you)
Namjoon looked up at Jungkook and sighed. He looked so certain, so absolutely convinced of Namjoon's abilities and it made something warm settle at the bottom of his stomach. Something light and happy that fizzled in his veins, making Namjoon feel like he could actually believe Jungkook's words. It was something Namjoon wasn't quite ready to address just yet, but he already had an idea of what it meant.
