So... Okazaki Hanano- or rather, Yume Yonekura thoughts?
//So normally I don't talk about people I already covered.
//However to say a lot has been discovered about Okazaki in Chapter 3 is a bit of a underestatement so she's getting a bit of a update.
//As I already talked about her general personality and her Chapter 1 +2 actions this will exclusively cover her Chapter 3 actions.
//Under the cut we go:
//When we start off Chapter 3, Okazaki is on full blast from Watari since due to her immoral actions in Chapter 2's investigation, people are getting nervous of her. She seems apologetic to Watari and vows she will try to be better...
//Of course we all know that was a fucking lie, since Okazaki doubles down on her tormenting Wada. At first we didn't know why she was doing this other then the lulz but now knowing Okazaki's true nature, I felt she did this to get a rise out of Tsuno given how protective she is over Wada. Heck her savagely beating up Wada was to try and get him away from the 3D printer as she needed to use it for her plans.
//It was foreshadowed about her true nature from how she interacts with Tsuno and people complaining their stuff was going missing as remember when Hirokai was on Harada's case for his drugs being missing? Well...turns out Okazaki has been doing a bit of borrowing without permission, for no other reason then because she can.
//I got some backlash from the Tetro Pink community for calling Okazaki a sociopath due to ableist reasons, now I will like to retract my sociopathic statement on her since a key takeaway from them is that they have no empathy, that caring for others is something they don't instinctively have and have to pretend to care but most of the time they...struggle. Levi from Despair Time is a very good example from this as I do believe he is a sociopath but he behaves more like a realistic portayal of one, someone who tries to blend in and do good but they trying to work out a manual that others just know by instinct. Meanwhile Okazaki does actually care for Watari. Its in a very twisted manner, but she does possess some empathy, so she doesn't fit and Okazaki's twisted behaviour does have another explanation for it.
//I said from the start that she was the most likely person to double murder and I was completely right. I'm just so glad that my mistrust in Okazaki was well placed as well obviously I didn't expect the supervillain twist but let's face it, I don't think anyone did. But her supervillian persona I think has a sad origin behind it as we know she ran away from home and went off to live by herself and after finding out who their mother is, certain behaviour traits make more sense. Most supervillains especially the over the top hammy ones, often have neglectful childhoods and go full ham because they want some level of attention from others as they hate being ignored. This is Okazaki in steroids as she hates the fact that Tsuno, her self-proclaimed arch-nemesis has no idea who she is, and it pisses her off. Okazaki even has a evil laugh "Konkonkonkon" to really hammer it home.
//What I love is when she's going through her breakdown, nobody was taking any manners of this, calling out Okazaki on her stupid reasons to kill, and Wada was almost gonna punch Okazaki but Ojima stopped him, but Ken was ultimately the one who slapped Okazaki, and he berates her for all the horrible shit she's done. Okazaki also manages to be the SECOND person to be the culprit and do a Closing Argument about their own crimes, I said second because sorry Bubbles but Akane Taira did this in Chapter 5 of Danganronpa Another so Okazaki wasn't the first.
//Their execution was as brutal as always as well...not only has Game of Thrones shown how horrible drinking molten gold is, but I believe it was a form of execution in some Mesoamercian Empires and if it was used as that, it shows how horrible it is. And then we get the bombshell that Okazaki's real name is Yume Yonekura, and they are the child of the Mastermind behind the Killing Game.
//I'm not using their real name because its just their birth name, and they have long since discarded it, similar to Mukuro in ASOOT, its not her birth name but we still call her Mukuro. Plus its a horrid reminder that their own mother was the one who killed them for the sake of their experiment. But at the same time, the detached personality of Okazaki, how she doesn't see any issues using immoral acts to get results and acting surprised when people call this out? Seems like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree~
//The breakdown is gonna stick in your head for a while but the question is, will it be a good one or a bad one, only time will tell.

some thoughts on okazaki hanano
spoilers for ch3
already getting tired seeing people use this to be like "OKAZAKI IS EVIL AND CRAZY AND IS AN EVIL CRAZY EVIL SERIAL KILLER!!!!" so lets unpack a bit of the yume terminal
okazaki is the child of yonekura. i think a lot of people saw this one coming, but i wanna unpack it a bit further. the details are unclear, but for whatever reason, okazaki was born with a purpose and if she cant fulfill that purpose, shes useless to her mother. this much is made clear by yonekura saying that she would have rather just killed okazaki off and had a new baby as opposed to trying to make her useful. judging by the fact that whatever experiment kan was conducting on her seems to involve switching her blood type, something kan also did to seki, id say that maybe she was supposed to exist as spare organs and parts for yonekura? thats my best guess at the moment but we dont have a lot of information
so okazaki is conceived for the sole purpose of providing for yonekura, but comes out with the wrong blood type and cant provide. kan takes the initiative in insisting he can change her blood type and begins experimenting on her, killing at least one of his assistants in the process. we see that this is traumatizing for okazaki. shes scared when she sees dr. odawara die, knowing thats her fate. death is a constant presence in her life, because if they cant change her blood type, theyre going to kill her.
her mother describes kan as evil, and what does he say?
Tumblr media
i suppose evil is your lovely daughter's salvation.
okazaki idolizes evil. she isnt an evil person, shes someone who views evil as the path that saved her life. if nobody had been willing to experiment on her and "fix" her, she would be dead. evil saved her. because of evil, she is alive. she EMBODIES evil because she owes her life to evil, and to dr. kan.
reducing her down to just being a tired old evil trope is completely neglectful of her character at large. she is a 17 year old. she is not evil. she idolizes evil and makes it a part of her, but she is not evil. does that mean its okay that she committed a double murder in the name of love and larp? no! but its ignorant to just label her as evil or crazy and move on. shes not evil and crazy. shes dedicating herself to the force that kept her alive
and also this trial was fucking awesome and so funny and i love her

BLCD Review: Father Fucker
Tumblr media
Title: Father Fucker (ファザー・ファッカー)
Release Date: 2019/03/06
Author/Artist: Kureta Makine
Cast: Nogami Shou x Yamanaka Masahiro
Synopsis: Mei and Shin are father and son, but they are not related by blood. Shin’s father, Makoto, was Mei’s dear friend, who passed and left Shin in Mei’s care. Day by day, Shin grows up to be more and more like his late father and it wasn’t hard for the boy to realize the feelings Mei had towards his father and uses this to at least have the man’s body to himself. On weekdays, they’re father and son, but on weekends, they’re lovers. What’ll happen to these two people who are just desperate for love…?
Review Proper
Can’t have a more accurate title than that. 😂
I was actually debating on putting this or Ingase no Beze for last, but I had a feeling that this might fuck me up so I had to save myself a fluffy looking one for last. Hmm. What can I say? I wasn’t that interested in this when I was gathering info about it. It’s not an entirely new concept and the plot’s not that special either. Wait, let me think about that one similar story... Gekkouzaka no Hanayashiki by Kinoshita Keiko? The leads both lose their unrequited loves who left a son which they adopted. Yukiya doesn’t have feelings for his son, though and he ends up with Takanashi instead. Mei and Shin ultimately end up together in Father Fucker even though Mei is swayed? by another man for a moment (I was rooting for them a little, dammit). I initially thought that Shin was going to kill him or they were both going to commit suicide in the end, but I remembered that this was Kureta Makine and not Natsume Kazuki, Gusari, or Sachimo and I don’t think it’s in their blood to make something that dark. This is the author of Ore no Kawaii Yopparai we’re talking about (my heart still hurts, though).
I totally thought that this was going to be mortally depressing like, say, Not Equal, but surprisingly, it wrapped up without much drama? I mean, there are a lot of lose ends left hanging and it was all resolved so fast. Idk. Do I like this? Do I not? It does give of Nii-chan vibes because well, even though it was mutual, Shin was still a minor and to lay your hands on him as a replacement for his father is...a crime? Do we consider this grooming? Either way, I don't feel too good about this (even though I figured that it would end like this before hand). I do feel kinda mad that Shin's mom slapped Mei into the next century, but he did deserve it (not because he was gay or that he was in love with Makoto and later Shin, but because again, he laid his hands on his stepson). I've nothing else to say about it tbh. There are some parts that made me feel invested, but it wasn't consistent. Or maybe I just wasn't in the mood that day. It sorta felt like Kakkou no Yume if not less irritating. 🤷
Execution was fine. This would only be the second time that I’ve heard Nogami Shou in a BLCD and the thought of jumping from an uke role straight into a seme role was kind of concerning for me. It didn’t become an issue once I started the BLCD, though...’cause his voice in Oni ga Shitau wasn’t all that notable anyway. 😂 How was he as a seme then? He was fine, I guess? Again, nothing notable. Keep up the good work, though. Here’s to the hope of you establishing your tone in my ears in the future. 👍
Moving on to Yamanaka Masahiro,
HELLO, HELLO, MY BB. IZ BIN A LONG WHILE. I was taken aback when I heard Mei speak because he was using his Yonekura voice. Yonekura-san’s face kept on popping up in my head and the “other man” appearing didn’t help because he was like Shiina-kun (who’s a little naughtier). 😂 There’s also another reason why I put this right before Ingase no Beze and that’s because Ingase no Beze had Okitsu and y’all know how I’m trash for my Fruit, Gateau boys. 😭😭😭 Yamanaka Masahiro did a great job in being a ho this time around. 👏👏👏 I’m so proud. 😌 This is Yamanaka Masahiro’s first work this year and it seems like it’s going to be the only one I’m going to listen to. *sigh* Well, there’s still much of 2019 left, I hope I get to hear more of him.
In conclusion, I’ve to say that Father Fucker had good plot execution, great voice work as Nogami Shou still managed not to get swallowed by Yamanaka Masahiro’s deeper voice and seniority, and it closely followed the original content. The manga’s pacing was fast so I can’t really complain about how the BLCD was the same. They did add a bit of stuff (mattress mambo extensions to name a few) in the story and they also cut some out. I guess, if you’re looking for a dramatic work which doesn't knock the air outta your lungs then this may be for you. I have caught news that this is going to be translated by swe3t+moans BLScanslation, but if things stay the way the are at their end, then I’m afraid that it might not be as accurate a translation as you’d hope it to be. I could try picking this up if I manage to have myself a copy on my trip to Japan in September, but that would still be dependent on a lot of factors. Let’s just pray that they manage to put out a better translation this time. 🙏
