Otome ask 1-10
@josiesparklelove
1: How did you get into Otome Games?Many and many a year ago, I found these things called "dating sims" by @pacthesis on deviantart. They changed my life. I then found zeiva's art/games, then bought X-note. My first purchased otome. Then I found this app called "Pirates in Love" in the app store. And it was alllll downhill from there.
2: What attracts you to a game?Interesting characters, engaging writing, and attractive art.
3: Do you have a favorite artist?Kazuki Yone. Thank you for bringing my beloved Hakuoki men to life.
4: What game or game series makes you the most hyped?HAKUOKI. I went out and bought a used PS Vita off ebay when Kyoto Winds was announced, I kid you not. Then I got Code: Realize and Norn9 to tide me over until the May release and fell into Saint-Germain hell.
5: What is the title of the first Otome Game you’ve bought?X-note, by @zeiva ! I enjoy the games zeiva creates a lot, and it holds a special place in my heart. ;3;
6: What is the first game you’ve played?I assume this means "first otome." Like I said, it's probably one of Pacthesis' dating sims. :)
7: What game are you playing currently?Currently I'm replaying Sanosuke's route in Hakuoki. I'm also planning to start Norn9 soon!
8: What’s the last game you’ve played?Code: Realize. Replayed Saint-Germain's route. Because I like to watch his face the world burn apparently.
9: What kind of themes do you like?Story/Character-wise? Honestly, I like characters who are complex and flawed and find the strength/reasons to confront their actions or mindset, or just come to new realizations about themselves. Koichi from IYAT comes to mind. He is a very flawed character and his actions have very real consequences, but in no way are they pardoned with some flippant excuse or swept under the rug. He very much has to come to grips with them and make a decision to make amends/not repeat those actions. I also love Okita from Hakuoki. Honestly, I can't pinpoint exactly WHY, and that's part of why I like him so much; he's multifaceted in his virtues and weaknesses.
As for story, my favorite story is Hakuoki. That game really means a lot to me, because the characters feel very human to me in their struggle to find meaning in a life that is far from being in their control. It grew on me slowly, because at first when I played I was looking for a "quick feels/romance fix" and much of the story focuses on the characters themselves as opposed to direct romance, but as I replayed it I kept seeing more and more nuances to each characters' personality and motivations and reasons for reacting to events the way they do.
10: Do you have a favorite OST track?Ooooohh, this is HARD. I like the opening theme from Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom a lot. I also love the ending theme to Code: Realize, it's so emotional and lovely, especially after the feels-trip that is each route. ;3; I also really love the OST to Dandelion: Wishes Brought to You; not a track on there that I don't like.
