Yomi definitely had a phase in school where he believed he was secretly a vampire/monster and he'd try to subtly show signs of it to his classmates, while going "they'll never know my secret..." meanwhile his classmates are going "man yomi really likes cranberry juice" and yakou's going "Oh yeah. He's the one"

rain code characters opinions on employing children to work in coal mines

Yakou Furio believes you should NOT make children work at coal mines. It is simply too dangerous AND incredibly gruelling work, not to mention an absolutely unhinged thing to just do or allow. He will go a step further and say that children should not work to support their parents at all, and would like to also say that in fact nobody should work or do anything for society in order to obtain basic necessities, however he's a bit scared of the surveillance drones listening in to this conversation and getting his sub blown up for the 34th time this year

Makoto Kagutsuchi thinks it's very sad that some children have to work at coal mines but that is just one of the harsh realities of our society and there is truly nothing he can do about it. He reassures you, however, that the child employees working at Amaterasu Corporation's secret mineshafts all were properly educated on basic mining safety as well as what to do in case of an emergency, and given hard hats along with a water bottle in case they get thirsty on their 8th hour underground and are being paid fair wages in exchange and-

Yomi Hellsmile believes it is perfectly fine for children to work at coal mines. He says that he worked in a coal mine as a child himself and he turned out fine. In his words, the supposed dangers of employing children at coal mines are being purposefully blown out of proportion by a communist psyop conspiring to stage a coup in his company for their own financial gain. In fact, parents at Amaterasu deciding to employ their children to work for the company as well could bring massive benefits to all parties, and should be the norm. Besides, the children yearn for the mines. occupying them with this kind of hard physical work will help them get all that energy out and make them learn many valuable skills they will need in the future. It is a very enriching activity for them. Furthermore, no parent should worry about the safety of their kids in the mines during the week, as Amaterasu Corporation is gracefully choosing to supply them with education on basic mining safety, hard hats, water bottles, a fair wage, and the affirmation that they're greatly helping to benefit both their family and society as a whole with their service.

Dr. Huesca loooves employing children to work at coal mines and gains huge pleasure in watching them suffer and die because he fucking hates kids. But, as we all probably assumed, the main reason is not any earthly pleasures he has sworn off of many years ago in order to devote himself to scientific research feeling celibacy. In truth, his favourite thing about employing children to work at coal mines is that after they complete their shift they are usually too exhausted to resist as they're getting taken away to his secret laboratory to get injected with radioactive dna altering chemical turning them into superpowered mutants that he forces to be his minions to do his evil bidding forever. OURGHHH Yomi. Okay this is gonna be a lot but lets-a go yahoo

Alright first off, first impression of him.

His introduction was literally golden. From his and Martina's Akira reference to Yomi fake-sobbing before coldly ordering Seth to be executed. I was kicking my feet. He immediately shot to my top favorite (before being kicked down again by Yuma and Makoto) but I absolutely enjoyed what an evil little gremlin he was from the very beginning. Honestly, one of the best introductions of a villain I've ever seen.

Next, headcanons. I think he was a theatre kid in high school. I'm saying this from experience. Every theatre kid goes through a little phase where they're evil and flamboyant it comes with the title. Yomi's just went on a little too long, silly silly boy. OH and I think he has chew toys. Being evil is stressful he's gotta chew on smth or else he'll just take it out on an underling, yk?

As for complaints and praise... weeeell, I thought his takedown was a little... anti-climatic? Like on the one hand, I'm very happy for Martina to get to send him to jail. You go girl. But also, he just sorta... accepts being arrested? I wanted him to resist more. Kicking scratching and screaming, yk?? He did a little of that but not much. And I wish we'd seen him in the epilogue, maybe as a small little shot of him in jail being all pouty. As for praise, I really love how fun-to-hate he is. The game makes it very clear he's horrible and you can't really sympathize with him, but also, he's just so fun to watch. Like. What's wrong with him *twirls hair*

Favorite pairing, hmmmmmmmmmm. Initially it was Makoyomi, but rn it's a three-way tie between Makoyomi, Yomiakou, and Hellxander. These dynamics are all just... really fascinating in all honesty. I want to study them. I'm so glad this fandom enjoys toxic yaoi I think I would go insane if there wasn't a plethora of content for these weirdos.

And finally, my overall opinion. He's my wife. My evil scrunkly meow meow. I'm gonna put a collar on him and cook him a yummy dinner while he's chained to a chair. Also his English VA is amazing and did a wonderful job making Yomi iconic, I'm planning on playing Raincode again but with JP voices to compare. He's the silliest villain I've ever seen. They did a great job with his writing, I think. He just, immediately grabs you- and when you look deeper into him it's genuinely so interesting and fun.

OKAY NOW FOR SHIPS.

Yomi x Seth is definitely an interesting ship for me. I don't actively think about it but when I come across content of them, my brain goes "fuck yeah". Sadly their interactions don't give us much to go off of as much as other pairs, but it's always a joy to see.

Hellxander. My beloved. Finding Fake!Zilch in the factory and hearing him ramble about Yomi was eye opening. Kodaka did not need to have that in there but it's there and it's amazing. I wish Yomi had a line or something about Zilch, I want to know how he feels about the guy. Was it a parasocial type of thing??? Was Yomi leading him along??? Please Kodaka. Yomi DLC where we visit Kanai Ward and Yomi is doing community service and having flashbacks to his old gay lover Hitman and he cries in the rain "I hate that ugly bowl cut detective!!!!!!! Curse you Yuma the Kokohead!!!!!!!"

Fake!Zilch x Seth isn't something I've ever really thought about, but I can kinda see a dynamic there. Frail little guy x tough hitman? Yeah that's certainly a good dynamic. I just don't know if this particular case would really... grab me?

And Yomi x Fake!Zilch x Seth... yeah I think that's just torture for Seth. Which is fine I like torturing the guy. I can definitely see Yomi being like "lol that seth guy is soooo funny to torment" and zilch is like "do you want me to torment him director yomi. Anything for you director yomi" and Seth is like "can I please just do my job. Please. Please"

Oh yeah, also, I'm sick so my brain is not working very properly right now, so I might make a lot of mistakes. Sorry for that.

I've started liking (and even just basically hearing about) Hellxander for a bit more than a week now, and, oh boy, do I love them.

At first I didn't really think much of the ship (mostly because I'm terrified of zombie and the first time I saw Fake Zombie Zilch, I was mostly trying to survive rather than appreciating his love for Yomi), but since I replayed the game and saw it on tumblr... Oh boy.

I don't even know where to start from... Well, I started writing a fanfic about them almost right after discovering the ship, so I think that shows how much I love them?

Like, it's my favourite ship from Rain Code. And from veeeeery far. At first I liked Makoto x Yomi (and still do), because they have a funny and interesting dynamic and potential for fluff (because if you can't allow yourself to be weak even in front of your ennemy who already hates you and finds you weak, when could you?), and, I can't stop thinking that Makoto does not hate Yomi and could genuinely develop some kind of relationship with him.

Anyway, back to Hellxander... The ship surpasses Yomi x Makoto because... HAVE YOU SEEN AIDE (that's how most people call him, right? That word is so funny to me) ACTING TOWARDS YOMI??? I mean, ok, sure, "Yomi" was actually Yuma. BUT STILL. Aide believe it was Yomi, and seemed so happy to talk to him. I swear everyone could have seen a tail wagging during this "scene". Like, COME ON. There's no way Aide wasn’t in love with Yomi. Sure, he might have hidden it when he was alive (although I headcanon him fanboying like crazy and twirling his hair in his mind everytime he was talking with Yomi), but he was definitely in love.

That and, he seems so obediant to Yomi that there's no way Yomi would have hated him or punished him for anything other than fun! And, I'm sure if he had ever punished Aide, Yomi would have been very gentle with him, because he needed his right hand man to not be too damaged to work properly.

And, do you really think Yomi would remain impassive to someone who obeys him, adores him and the likes? There's no way. Yomi would have at the very least considered him a friend, or someone he could agree not to hurt too much.

MOREOVER, can you imagine Yomi being weak with someone else than his right hand man who is here exactly because Yomi isn’t strong enough to take care of everything by himself?? If someone can escape alive after seeing Yomi weak, it's 🦆in Aide.

AND THE ANGST!! DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ANGST?! I LIVE FOR THAT CRAP! There's never enough angst/no comfort for me. I eat it, I write it, I dream it and I cry it (does that even make sense??), give me all of your angst, I'll devour that crap. Anyway. Maan, the angst potential for these two is through the roof! Imagine the pain Yomi felt after hearing about the death of Aide. Man must have devastated and tried to keep his composure. I honestly think (headcanon time ?) that Yomi was so dead set on catching Yuma/punishing his subordinate failures because of Aide's death.

Also, not only did he had to accept his death, he also had to accept that actually "All previously dead inhabitant of Kanai Ward are not exactly dead per se, but rather, mindless zombies that might not recognises you, even if you were the best of friends or lovers". That's worse than death!

I think Aide loves Yomi so much that just thinking about him turns him on, and is sometimes enough to make him ejaculate

Aide hates Seth because the man is too close to Yomi AND is (according to him) useless or too pathetic. That being said, he doesn't care about the other Peace Keepers because they are useful and not that close to Yomi. As for Martina... He is jealous of her, but she does a good work and Yomi seems to have fun with her, so he can't say anything.

Aide always seem to know when Yomi will have a nightmare and stalks his house/appartment whenever he sense it, just in case he could do something to help him. (Does Yomi know about it? I have no clue)

As for kinks... Man, I tried looking through a LOT of kink lists, and yet, the one I have in mind seem to be too specific and have no name... So I guess I will not say it. I think Aide would be fine with anything, as long as Yomi is happy anyway.

As for Yomi... Hm... I do have a lot of headcanons, but not directly/really related to Aide, so I'll keep them for later I guess?

I mean, I do have some other ideas related to Yomi and Aide, but those are most of fanfic ideas than really headcanons, so hm.

I think I said everything I had in mind regarding them? If not I guess I'll update it or reblog it, we'll see (What's best?).

Takumi is uhhh. He looks to be a mix of Yomi and Vivia tbh but I don't like Vivia and Yomi's got the same opinion. Also both Yomi & Vivia are trans men canonically as decided by me so I don't think it's very possible and Vivia doesn't look motivated enough to even try anyway. I am assigning Takumi as hellxander baby for multitude of reasons one of which is that extremely efficient hitman with 9999999999 confirmed killz who likes to burn bodies in his spare time not to mention the Fifth Fucking Car™ could give life to the cringest most annoying loser I've ever seen in a Kodaka trailer

Unnamed girls from old limit x despair (rip in rest) poster and thl trailer are hellectro babies I don't think I have to explain that one. Ok so lxd girl could have just dyed her hair like The Father but I think it's funnier if she was just born that way because recessive genes n shit. Both inherited Martina's family curse (terrible eyesight) (Yomi also has shit vision but he doesn't let that stop him from doing activities such as not being able to read anything 2 meters away which is very brave and inspiring to us all)

Lastly Zero is a makoyomi baby. The reason why he's so fucking weird is because he's just so sad and acting out because his parents die every day by each others' hands and he can't make them stop and murdering people with balls is his coping mechanism

You might ask "why does Yomi have so many kids" and you will not get an answer. Are they all from separate timelines or do they all exist simultenously. That is for me to decide and for you to be disturbed or mildly intrigued perhaps changed by

Imagine Makoto has never gotten comfort or help when he's sick but then after he and Yuma are on good terms, Yuma takes care of him and Makoto's super touched

Yuma can't cook but he gets Makoto a wet rag to help him feel better, let's him lay his head in his lap and just makes let's him rest

Oh, trust me. That exact kind of scenario Iives rent free in my head ALL the time. And I even made it a bit of an angsty headcannon.

Due to Makoto having to hide the truth about his body and what he is, he never once let a doctor examine him in the 3 years he’s lived. He may have been the same as all the citizens, but what if he was just slightly different due to being the only “perfect” one of his kind?

Because of this concern, every time he gets sick, he deals with it all alone. He tries to nurse himself the best he can and continues to push himself to work despite his health. Hiding his condition with his voice changing mask, and it fools people every time.

And if it gets bad enough… then he just lets himself die.

He is immortal after all…and not defective.

Hoping he comes back feeling better the next day when he revives. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

But when Yuma eventually finds this out, he is furious and becomes even more determined to care for Makoto himself. Telling him his life is precious and he should never throw it away like that.

“It’s our…I mean your body…don’t treat it like that…”

Yuma tells him that anytime he ever gets sick and is too afraid to ask for help from his people, that he can just call him. And he’ll come as fast as he can to assist him. (Unless he’s in the middle of a case, then he’d have to wait)

This of course touches Makoto to the point of tears. And he allows his original to continue to take care of him. Their bond growing stronger as he does so.

His original…is a good person.

He… likes him.

But Makoto will take advantage of this…

So, I’ve seen a post on spin the wheel/wheel of fate for Rain Code, and a couple of swap au’s where it’s just someone taking Yuma and/or Shinigami’s place

But I’ve got a full swap au I’ve had for a long while (about like, not too long since after I’ve discovered the game existed, a few months after it’s release) But NOW I’m actually talking about it so let’s get into it

(Also side note: Forte’s also swap in this au, and personalities won’t really change unless it was tied heavily to their original role)

So our swaps are, Vivia swaps with Yuma

Yakou swaps with Shinigami

Fubuki swaps with Zilch

Halara swaps with Aphex

Desuhiko swaps with Pucci

Fake Number One swaps with Zange

Martina swaps with Melami

Yomi swaps with Makoto (Hahaha get swapped with the guy you hate the most redhead bubblegum bitch)

Seth swaps with Guillaume, then swapped Guillaume swaps with Dominic (if that makes sense)

Anyways onto explanations/aimless rambles/thoughts:

So Vivia makes the pact with Yakou the death god, but when he does, instead of a Full memory wipe, he loses his memories on why he made the pact, and anything related to it, he knows who he is, he knows his new swapped forte, but he doesn’t know why he made the pact, the original plan was full wipe but I thought that wouldn’t work

Yakou is the death god now, also he wouldn’t call Viva “Master” that’s for sure, being alone for so long but is ironically very anxious (So essentially same old same old Yakou except he was never married, and is now a death god)

Also Vivia and Yakou may or may not become canonically gay in this au just saying…

Shinigami also runs an entire detective agency, can’t tell if that’s girlbossing for her or if I’ve placed a death sentence on everyone (actually it’d still be her girlbossing if it was the latter ngl-)

Oh yeah in this au also instead of it being the “Nocturnal Detective Agency” it’s now the “Detective Death Agency”

For the Detectives in the Nocturnal detective agency swapped with the toxic gossip train detective group I’m sorry but also not sorry

I don’t really have much for them sorry, but for one,

The random hitwoman/fake Fubuki in zombie mode is gay af for Melami, evil gays but they’re lesbibs this time

And also, Yuma still has a full memory wipe, but it’s normal amnesia, however this is subjective to change, and he’s mainly about the same from the main game just without the entire number one and Shinigami thing going on

As for Yomi and Makoto: I’ve had two ideas that I don’t know which one is the canon one yet

So the first/original one, Yomi is the homunculus of Viva, however he hated this so much he desperately did anything he possibly could to look different, including a mask, and Makoto ether gets a new design or is now just the normal twin of Yuma

The other idea is Makoto is now Vivia’s homunculus rather than Yuma’s, and Yomi remains physically unchanged

Ether way Both Makoto and Yomi are ending up in masks

I read your fic Etched into Skin Like Scars and I really wanted to hear your thoughts on the Yomi/Shizuru ship. I read it and went "... WAIT CIRCLE BACK."

honestly, i just love putting random characters together and seeing how they can fit together. anyone who has read my first yyh fic knows that i absolutely love yomi. i didn't expect to love his character as much as i did, but while writing that fic he somehow became one of my ultimate faves.

i headcanon that yomi can be cold, calculating, ruthless, and so on. i also believe that he has his own complicated moral code, that he's intelligent and loves acquiring knowledge, and that he wants someone to accept him and care for him. (youko really did a number on him.)

as for shizuru, she's had to be a caretaker and had massive responsibility on her shoulders since she was young. (which she was amazing at because kuwabara was raised into the best human being.) shizuru is intelligent, fierce, and independent.

how would they fit together? they'd be able to talk easily. long intelligent conversations, debates about different cultures and life philosophies. yomi would also do little things for shizuru, nothing like a grand gesture but remembering that one tea she liked or the flowers that she always stops to admire. looking after her without being overbearing. shizuru would do things to take care of him in subtle ways, speaking quieter when she can tell his sensitive hearing is causing a headache or vividly describing the places she's been since they last met. shizuru would also loudly defend anyone that spoke against yomi, and gods help whoever thinks they can badmouth the human woman because he will hear it and retaliate.
