Anna Sawai won the Golden Globes award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series - Drama, making her the first Asian actress to win in this category since Yoko Shimada achieved the same feat in 1981 – both for their portrayals of Lady Mariko in different adaptations of Shōgun.

An FX reboot of the successful 1980 mini-series Shōgun is arriving in 2024. The new 10-episode Shōgun, will be based on James Clavell’s best-selling novel of the same name. Hiroyuki Sanada will play Lord Yoshi Toranaga(originally played by Toshiro Mifune) and John Blackthorne wiill play John Blackthorne (originally played by Richard Chamberlain)! Anna Sawai takes on the role of Lady Mariko (originally portrayed by the late Yoko Shimada)

Mifune and Sanada as Lord Yoshi Toranaga, inspired by the life of warlord and later shōgun, #TokugawaIeyasu in #feudalJapan, who reunified Japan in the 17th century after a long civil war (#Sengoku period). He created a new government controlled by the #Tokugawa family that ruled #Japan until 1868.

Shogun is based on #JamesClavell’s novel, a story from both Western and Japanese perspective.
