My review of The Devil Judge
I watched it actually months ago, I just was trying to understand and put my thoughts in words and also because I now know how to use Tumblr finally 💃.
It was actually pretty good, u know. As someone who absolutely loves batshit crazy and unpredictable characters, and fun, complicated and not morally good? Yeah whatever that is endings, this was my shit. But I wasn't the biggest fan of the dynamic btw the main characters - Goan and Yohan.
The reason why it's not my favourite is because of their relationship ? Situationship? For me, i absolutely dig morally gray characters and couples but they have to match each other's freak u know? Like they could be different from eachother as much as possible but if they're morals are tilted then it's just so fun to watch and explore them. For example: Beyond Evil, Killing Eve and The Veil. In all of these the characters had their own agendas, their own morals and they most definitely matched each other's freak one way or another BUT with The Devil Judge. It gave me so much abusive vibes and it made my head hurts. The power imbalance between them was very problematic for me. The way Goan would just keep getting manipulated and would get thrown around like a rag doll, made me cry out and almost rip my hair out frustration, maybe that was the writers' intention but I didn't like it.
It took me so long to figure out why exactly i didn't like it as much as the other shows and I figured out this was the reason tho I read somewhere that Goan's character is usually a female characters in shows like this, where they are shown as naive, easily manipulated and stuff like that which definitely makes sense. And I absolutely hate the way female characters are shown like that which in a lot of places are changing now but obv the change is slow as fuck 😑I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea 🤷♀️.
The chemistry btw the two was amazing tbh. They were so gay for each other, the writers were cowards for not giving us a good ending. 😂
Anyways, ✌️

Apart from our thinking towards bl regarding the show the devil judge it's a great i know we all wanted them to be lovers but no one can deny one thing it's a great show in the bromance genre .
In their first meeting when kang Yohan saw Kim Goan he instantly promised himself that " I won't let you die like my brother, you are too innocent for your own good I will show you the real face of justice who you believe in so much" and after knowing him more " I will protect you at any cost and no matter how much your best friend/ lover annoyed me i won't hurt her cause she means too much to you and i know how it felt to see someone died who was there for you when no one was "
They were so different yet so similar ( I will post more thoughts)

I'm confused why the tdj fandom calls yohan and Goan as lawful husbands, like is it given by the fans or is it mentioned in the show??
I'm so lost.

Knowing people's souls, their deep, ugly hearts, desires and wants and needs has more-so perplexed him than it has entertained the boredom often felt in the presence of others. Maybe the human condition lacks substance - after all, if there is so much pain and suffering, then why subject the body and mind.
It sounds cynical, Yohan knows. It's easier to be nihilistic than it is to find the joys in life - but isn't that also hilariously ironic? Still, he finds moments that make him believe. The things he cares about, the opportunities that put his brain on pause, giving in to anything but rational. It's not easy to do, not even for Yohan, and maybe that's why Kim Goan is a dopamine fix he's always needed, adjusting and lighting up parts of his brain that didn't quite function as expected.
But somehow, someway, the universe itself intrigues him by giving him a piece of its child. Gaon is a blinding force of nature, a star - if he wants to be cliche. He breathes the sins of the earth and exhales reformative dust of forgiveness. Devine intervention should not exist, at least not in Yohan's proximity, snuffing out fire with a flick of his serpent-like tongue.
Yohan is not the devil, and Gaon is for from an angel, but if God spoke life into them both, then maybe they are otherworldly. Maybe they are something more than beating hearts.
Yohan always understood people's souls, but maybe it's time he finally understand his own.

On episode 12 of the devil judge and this show is just not as gay as y'all said it was. That comphet romance is just overpowering the relationship between Yohan and Goan to me. I have like 5 hours of this show left and I don't feel much for their relationship. Idk something about it just hasn't captured me yet it's like they have potential but it's not THERE yet.

Miscommuinication between a fool and a bigger fool

Yohan actually confessed his feelings but Gaon misunderstood.

Because TDJ likes playing with vague statements that could mean a million things, let's play along, too.
"I wanted you by my side" could mean a few things.
"I need you for my plan to work." We know this is not true because Yohan's plans would have worked just fine without Gaon. In fact, having Gaon there was the one thing that was used against Yohan in the end.
"I wanted to get rid of an obstacle." This is the meaning that Gaon chose to take. Which seems plausible until you consider the fact that Gaon being in Yohan's way was never a problem. He'd been getting in Yohan's way since episode 1 and yet, Yohan's plans still kept succeeding. If anything, the moment Gaon got out of Yohan's way was the moment his plans started to go downhill. 🤷🏿♀️
"I want you." Period.
You see, everyone on Yohan's side played a role in all his schemes. Everyone. Down to the little defenseless girl. But what did Gaon do? His first mission, Yohan had to step in complete it. Yohan gave Gaon documents to sift through that he knew were fabricated. He didn't expect anything to come out of it. However, it was through Gaon's own research ingenuity that he discovered the link between the president and Jukchang.
Point still remains that Yohan didn't have a useful place for Goan in his schemes. Yohan wanted everyone else because they served a practical purpose. But he wanted Gaon simply because he wanted Gaon.
Subconsciously, he liked all the other stuff Gaon was doing like making his house a home and caring for niece and his cat and pulling Yohan out of his shell. That was what Yohan wanted from Gaon. The work stuff was just icing on the cake.
Yohan even trusted Soohyun to find and apprehend Jukchang on her own, more than he trust Gaon to do it. He gave his niece the job of finding a prison for the r3pist actor. Think about that. He gave Soohyun (his nemesis) and Elijah (his underage neice) more serious jobs than the faux research he gave Gaon.
Yohan wanting Gaon on his side had absolutely nothing to do with helping or hindering his plans. He wanted Gaon because Gaon made him feel safe and emotionally satisfied. But like the silly goose that he was, Gaon chose to misunderstand that.

I have some prompts/ideas that I wanna write out, but honestly anyone can use them if they want! And if you have prompts for me feel free to send them!
The Devil Judge
Can you write where Gaon is the one that got shot instead of Soo Hyun? Either she's not there, arrive later than in the drama, or not in the line of fire, so the shooter managed to shoot Gaon. But Gaon survived in the end (theres no way I want to see my baby dead).
Yohan’s shocked with meeting Gaon because that’s Isaac right? The man who took care of him throughout his terrible childhood? Gaon doesn’t know what’s happening, other then his boss is way to pushy and he definitely being stalked. And the fact the he keeps getting texts from someone named Elijah, begging him to come home?
What if when Goan find that little basement room that used to be Yohan’s, he stays and falls asleep? He finds it much more comfortable and lived in in that small space then the rest of the big mysterious mansion. And Yohan is very confused by it.

if they show yohan getting hurt and goan going berserk because of that and potentially taking care of him then I am just gonna assume the writers does not want us to think straight

Fictober 2021 (Gahan) - Day 21
Prompt No Day 21 - "What did I say."
Fanfiction Fandom: The Devil Judge (TVN), Gahan, Lawful Husbands, Kang Yohan x Kim Gaon
Additional Character: Kang Elijah
Ratings: Teens and Up
Warnings: Flowershop AU. First meetings. Flirting. Dying plant. Elijah is interested in plants.
“What did I say?” Gaon looked in dismay at the pot of dying hoya carnosa, “It’s fall and you’re suppose to water it sparingly!”
He looked at the well-dressed man in his three-piece suit and slicked up hair and regretted selling him the hoya. It might be one of the easiest houseplants to grow but the man didn’t look like he had any green fingers. But a customer got what a customer wanted. And so Gaon had sold him the plant on the condition that he adhered to the instructions he had written down.
“It’s not his fault,” a voice suddenly cut in and Gaon saw a girl of about sixteen limping into his shop with the help of arm braces.
“Didn’t I tell you to wait in the car!”
The man frowned, his voice stern. But Gaon could tell how concerned he was for he had moved closer to her, prepared to help her should she be in need. Grabbing the chair that he used at the counter, Gaon placed it such that it was easy for the girl to take a seat. He didn’t say a word until the girl had settled down, her arm braces removed and in the hands of the man.
“What happened?”’ Gaon finally asked.
Not quite meeting his eyes, the girl spoke curtly, “I wanted it to flower faster so I didn’t follow as instructed.”
The girl was obviously trying to hide her embarrassment. Finding it endearing, Gaon smiled and he immediately felt a pair of eyes boring into him. It was the man, bristling like an upset porcupine and Gaon was surprised. He hadn’t shown the slightest emotion when he, the shop owner had dared to lecture him, a customer. But now he was glaring at Gaon, promising injury and death, just because he had given the girl a smile.
Ignoring the man, Gaon returned his attention to the girl.
“Hoya takes years to flower and some don’t even in their lifetimes.”
“Oh...” the girl looked disappointed and Gaon felt sorry for her. Sometimes the internet showed pretty pictures, giving the impression that the plant would definitely turn out like this. But plants were as diverse as humanity and there was no guarantee even if they belonged to the same species.
“Do you mind if I recommend you something else?”
The girl turned her gaze to the man as if asking for permission. And there was a nod before the man looked at Goan.
“Nothing too strenuous. She’s still recovering.”
“It’s just some watering and maybe a little fertilising,” the girl huffed and rolled her eyes, “It’s not as if I’m going to take care of the entire garden.”
“Actually, there’s more than just that. Are you squeamish about insects?”
Opening his tablet, Gaon began explaining about aphids and caterpillars, and he was amazed that the girl wasn’t afraid at all. In fact, she was brimming with curiosity and Gaon was delighted that he could share some information which usually wouldn’t be of interest to anybody.
By the time the girl had chosen the plants she wanted, an hour had already passed and Gaon was impressed by the man’s attitude. He neither grumbled nor hurried the girl. He just stood by and waited with the patience of a stone.
What a wonderful father he must be. And a sadness gripped Gaon’s heart, familiar and aching. Shaking his head to clear his morose thoughts, Gaon meticulously packed the plants into a cardboard box, making sure that none would be injured during transport.
Feeling a presence besides him, Gaon looked up and was taken aback by the warmth he saw in the man‘s eyes.
“Thank you. Elijah hadn’t had so much fun since we returned from Switzerland.”
“Fun?” Gaon stared at him in disbelief, “But we’re only talking about plants.”
The man smiled and Gaon was fascinated by how a simple twitch of his lips had added so much charm to the man. Realising that he was staring, Gaon shifted his eyes away only to have them darting back again when the man placed his hand on his arm.
“It’s not the topic but the speaker that makes it interesting.”
Gaon opened his mouth then closed it. And because the man hadn’t removed his hand from his arm, he blurted out the worst thing to ever say.
“You shouldn’t be flirting in front of your daughter.”
The man’s eyes widen and his smile became a grin. And Gaon grabbed the box of plants, rushing out of the shop only to realise that he had no idea which car belonged to the man.
Feeling his presence again, Gaon jumped when the man placed a hand against the small of his back.
“This way.”
He pointed to a black Escalade, two cars down, and it became the most arduous journey Gaon had ever made.
The man’s hand never left him and that only emphasised how close he was to him. And Gaon couldn’t concentrate. nearly walking into a lamppost in the process.
When he finally got the box loaded into the boot, Gaon was feeling as if he needed an oxygen tank just to get his breathing right again. He couldn’t look the man in the eye and muttering a quick thanks for his generous purchase, Gaon’s attempt to flee the scene was thwarted by a hand gripping his arm.
“Elijah might need help so is there a way that she can contact you?”
Gaon hesitated.
“They may not survive without your help.”
Slipping a hand into his apron pocket, Gaon drew out a name card and before the man could take.it, Gaon warned.
“I only want her contacting me.”
The man nodded and instead of taking of the card, he leaned in and whispered.
“Just to clarify a mistake. I was actually flirting in front of my niece.”

Architect, communication arts, and graphic designer with WitWin
Architect - What is a non-canon ship that you wish was canon?
Just did this with the ones I thought of first, so what else do I wish...
YoungMin and SeungTak. I wish. I dream.
YoHan and GoAn. I mean, duh? I definitely wish this show had been able to take the last step and make them full on canonically together.
KimShin and Grim Reaper. Would have loved it!
Communication Arts - Which currently airing show do you scream at the most?
Besides the other ones?
Check Out. Because it's so varied and it could be good but it just wasn't willing to go far enough to be good.
Graphic Designer - Pick a pairing and I’ll assign them a symbol that I think represents them.

You know what the perfect ending would be for me? If Yohan and Goan bring down the foundation, Yohan fakes his death and then they all move someplace quiet. No courts, no fanfare. Just peaceful lawful family times. Just like how the characters deserve it.

do yall think about isaac wanting and attempting to c*mmit s*icide for allowing his father to abuse yohan and thinking he deserved it to die for it and then yohan finding isaac in the bathtub, versus gaon attempting to c*mmit s*icide for treating yohan like a criminal and accusing him of killing isaac and soohyun for money and yohan finding him before he could take himself out with a bomb and saving him also. 😭
#x#the devil judge#i swear there's gonna be one night yohan rolls over in bed and he tells goan that ppl have got to stop#wanting to unalive themselves in apology to him and then it just becomes a quest of anxiousness over elijah#and what if she ever thinks the same thing bc she's really the only other closest person to him#until she figures out why he's fretting and she's just like: yohan i wouldve joined my parents a long time ago if that was the case
