Yogi Adityanath govt begins reviving ancient temples to promote religious tourism – India Today
Tumblr media
The Yogi Adityanath government has started reviving ancient temples and is compiling details of heritage across the state in order to regain lost glory and boost religious tourism across the state.
In Lucknow, ancient temples like Mandabir Baba, Lokeshwar Mahadev Mandir, Mangalmeshwar Dham and Vishwakarma Mandir are being renovated so they can become tourist attractions.
In Mandabir Baba temple located in Alambagh area, the work of wall construction and renovation of temple premises has already been done.
Speaking to India Today TV, Rajendra Sharma who lives near the temple said, “This temple is more than 100-year-old and was in a dilapidated condition. The government has got the fencing work done. Temple has been beautified and proper lightning work has also been done.”
Another resident said, “After the renovation work, more people come to offer prayers at the temple. In the park, inside temple premises, residents come and practice yoga every day. We are grateful to the government for focusing on ancient temples.”
Renovation of another temple in Alambagh area – Lokeshwar Mahadev Mandir is also underway and the locals believe that revival of this temple will attract more people. Lokeshwar Mahadev Mandir was constructed in 1941.
The archeology, culture and tourism departments are compiling a list of ancient temples, especially those which were present on or before 1857 for renovation. Roads connecting to these temples will also be repaired if required, so that pilgrims find it easy to visit these temples.
The government will also revive traditional fairs particular to each district which used to draw people’s attention in the past. Details of ancient temples after renovation will also be uploaded on the tourism website.
“The ancient temples are being renovated and we are also making arrangements of shade, clean drinking water, sanitation, better lighting for the convenience of tourists. Cultural programmes and fairs are being organised in districts which are attracting tourists from across the globe. Our focus is to develop Uttar Pradesh as a tourism hub and this is why we are focusing on developing our heritage,” said Jitendra Kumar, principal secretary of the tourism department.
UP BJP spokesperson Manish Shukla said, “There are a lot of ancient temples across the state which are in a dilapidated condition but have historical significance. Our government is developing these temples and they will be revived as major tourism destinations. It’s a welcoming decision.”

#11 - Saving farmers from debt trap, new hope for farmers in Uttar Pradesh, a small step for solving a big problem
Tumblr media
New Hope for farmers in Uttar Pradesh   Photo Credit: Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya
The new UP government’s decision to increase wheat procurement target by more then double (2.6 times) from 30 MT (2016) to 80MT (2017), by establishing 7000 new procurement centres, is a phenomenal gesture to help secure livelihood of heavily indebted farmers in the state at the MSP of Rs 1,625 per quintal. This targeted procurement could help bringing more number of farmers in safety net of minimum support price.
Along with the loan waiver of Rs. 30,729 crore benefiting 2.15 crore farmers (upto one lakh, of small and marginal farmers, constituting 92.5 per cent of UP's farmers) and another waiver to 7 lakh farmers who had secured loans which turned into non- performing assets (NPAs) of Rs 5,630 crore; would in a long run create a more healthy environment for bringing about fundamental changes in agriculture of the state.
Although the election promise was to waive off 100% of the loan of small and marginal farmers, even the current step (waiving only upto 1 lakh of loan amount) could be a transformative step for agriculture in Uttar Pradesh. It should be noted that the total outstanding debt of farmers in UP is around 92,000 crore. The twin loan waiver schemes would reduce the total debt burden of farmers by 39%. Hopefully pending dues of sugarcane farmers would also be looked into.
Loan waivers and increased procurement target would give additional cash in the hands of the farmers to settle pending loan dues, before the coming Kharif season.

The Centre asked states to ensure implementation of its guidelines on home isolation issued on 10 May "in letter and spirit" to effectively contain the spread of the coronavirus, after taking note of instances of laxity.
"We have collectively been following the policy of test, trace, track and isolate and the same may not be feasible if the guidelines issued are not implemented in letter and spirit," Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said in his letter to states.

Institutional quarantine only for those who don't have facilities at home, clarifies Delhi L-G
In Delhi, facing stiff opposition from the state government, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said that only those COVID-19 positive patients who don't require hospitalisation on clinical assessment and don't have adequate facilities for home isolation will need to undergo institutional isolation
Regarding institutional isolation, only those COVID positive cases which do not require hospitalisation on clinical assessment & do not have adequate facilities for home isolation would be required to undergo institutional isolation.

Baijal had on Friday issued orders making five-day institutional quarantine mandatory for COVID-19 patients in the National Capital, sparking off criticism from the AAP government.
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh called the decision "very unfair", saying that ICMR guidelines allow patients with mild symptoms to be home quarantined but a different order has been issued for Delhi.
AAP MLA Raghav Chadha said many people will not get tested in fear of being whisked away to quarantine centres. Chadha also said Delhi would need 15,000 beds by 30 June, but after this order 90,000 beds will be required. "From where will we get these beds?" he asked.
Saturday's orders came after Baijal met with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and officials of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. During the meeting, the DDMA also approved the recommendations of High-Level Expert Committee for fixing subsidised rates for treatment in private hospitals Delhi.
The committee had recommended Rs 8,000-10,000 for isolation beds, Rs 13,000-15,000 for ICUs without ventilator and Rs 15,000-18,000 including PPE costs for ICUs with ventilator.
Additionally, the meeting also decided that a maximum of 60 percent beds of private hospitals will be used for COVID-19 patients and of those, 100 percent coronavirus beds will be subsidised, said Sisodia.
Decision -
100% COVID beds shall be subsidized upto an upper limit of 60% of total hospital capacity. 3/N

As the number of cases continued to rise, the Delhi government also issued an order cancelling leaves of all the staff working in its hospitals and medical institutions with immediate effect. The order issued on 19 June also said that leaves of any kind will be granted to anyone under "most compelling circumstances".

In January, the state government had made NCERT books mandatory for all schools affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) from academic session 2018-19. In August, the state government had launched a portal of UP Madrassa Board for online registration of all such Islamic institutions where they were asked to upload all relevant information pertaining to their managing committee, teachers, students etc. As many as 2,500 madrassas had uploaded all their information by September 17, Minority Welfare Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary had said. The aim behind the move was to stop irregularities in the madrassas and improve transparency, he had said. Sharma today said mathematics and science will be made compulsory at Aliya (intermediate) level to make madrassa students more competitive. The Madrassa Board is making preparations for introducing NCERT books in the institutions run by it after getting an approval from the state government, he said. Registrar of Madrassa Board Rahul Gupta said there was a move to review the curriculum, although it was in the primary stages and changes were likely in the books of all classes. The education related to the religious curriculum will remain as before, but a change is likely in other sections relating to academics in keeping with the demand of the times. Modern subjects will be included in the curriculam, he said. Meanwhile, Teachers’ Association Madaris-Arbia Uttar Pradesh welcomed the decision of the state government and said that the change in the curriculum other than religious education in keeping with the present requirement was good. Before the online registration, there were 19,000 recognised madrassas in the state. As many as 4,600 partially-funded madrassas were there in the state, while the number of 100 per cent funded madrassas in the state stood at 560. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had asked all madrassas to hold celebrations on Independence Day and videograph the event.  The Rediff.com : 30th. Oct,17

BHU clashes: Yogi Adityanath orders probe, police deployed at campus
A number of students, including women, and two journalists were injured in a lathicharge by the police in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) where a protest Saturday night against an alleged eve- teasing incident turned violent. The violence erupted after some students, protesting against the incident on Thursday, wanted to meet the varsity's vice chancellor at his residence Friday night, according to the police and BHU sources. Security guards of the university stopped the students and informed the police, according to university sources. A BHU spokesperson said some students wanted to "forcibly" enter the VC's residence but they were stopped by the BHU security guards. Subsequently, there was stone pelting by "outsiders" who had joined the students, he said. The police baton charged the students in a bid to disperse them. A number of students, including women, and two journalists were injured in the lathicharge, the varsity sources said. The police sources said some of its personnel were injured in the clashes during which the students allegedly indulged in arson. Rajiv Singh, the station officer of the Lanka police station here, said that 16 students, who had been detained after the incident, were released on Saturday evening. Following the violence, the district administration declared holidays from Monday till October 2 in all colleges and universities in Varanasi. The BHU had earlier announced that the holidays would start from September 28. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday sought a report from the divisional commissioner about the incident as various political parties, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), criticised the government and condemned the police action. "I have sought a report from the divisional commissioner, Varanasi, about the entire incident," Adityanath said in Lucknow. The baton charge on journalists led to protests in Lucknow with some scribes staging a sit-in near the chief minister's residence. They later submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate demanding action against the guilty. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav tweeted, "The government should resolve the issue by talks, not by lathicharge. It is condemnable. Action should be taken against the guilty." Congress leaders Raj Babbar and PL Punia, along with scores of party activists, were detained today when they tried to visit the BHU. They were later released. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP over the police lathicharge allegedly on woman students. Attaching a link to a video of the students who alleged that they were beaten up by male policemen at the campus, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "BJP version of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao in BHU." CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury tweeted, "Only a barbaric govt unleashes male police with lathis on women students. Why is BJP-RSS so scared of students?" Senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav denounced the alleged police action against the students and said the issue will be raised in Parliament. The BHU issued a statement last night saying that the 'dharna' by the students just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit was "politically motivated" to malign the image of the university. The alleged eve-teasing incident had occurred on Thursday night after which the students started the protest. The university also said that security guards were regularly patrolling the campus and assistance from the police had been sought to maintain peace in the campus. Senior officials, including District Magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and Superintendent of Police (City) Dinesh Singh, have visited the campus and police presence outside it beefed up. Nearly 1,500 police personnel, including contingents of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), have been deployed to maintain law and order in the campus. BHU students said that they undertook the protest near the university's main gate against rising incidents of alleged eve-teasing on the campus. A woman student of the Arts Faculty was allegedly harassed by three motorcycle-borne men inside the campus while she was returning to her hostel, triggering the dharna. According to the complainant, the men abused her and fled when she resisted their attempts. The woman alleged that security guards, about 100 metres from where the incident happened, did nothing to stop them. She said her warden, instead of taking up the issue with her superiors, asked her why was she was returning late to the hostel. The warden's response angered the students who sat on a 'dharna' at the main gate midnight Thursday. BHU students have alleged they have to face eve-teasers on the campus regularly and the varsity administration was not taking any action to stop the miscreants. The police and BHU professors tried to pacify the students yesterday, but they refused to end their protest and sought assurance from the university vice chancellor. A press release issued by the information department of Varanasi said that a case has been registered against a Facebook page under the cyber law for allegedly posting provocative photos and videos relating to the violence.

Yogi Adityanath highlights achievements in 100 days of assuming office
Govt. has started initiatives to take UP forward on path of development, says the UP CM
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday unveiled a booklet highlighting his government’s achievements in 100 days even as he used the occasion to take a dig at previous governments for the lack of development.
Releasing at a press conference the booklet “100 din vishwas ke” on his government’s performance since he assumed office on March 19, he said, “We want to assure people that government has started initiatives to take UP forward on the path of development.” In a jibe at his political rivals, the chief minister said Uttar Pradesh lacked on the development front due to corruption and nepotism in past years.
He said 2017 will be observed as ‘Garib Kalyan Varsh’. ‘Priority to farmers’
Noting that the state’s economy was agriculture-based, he said his government was, therefore, giving priority to issues related to farmers.
The Chief Minister said cane dues of over Rs 22,517 crore were paid to sugarcane growers in the State after his government came to power.
Mr. Adityanath, who barely took a couple of questions from the media, sought the cooperation of newspersons in helping him to run the government.
He also highlighted the major decisions taken by the State Cabinet on farm loan waiver and on toning up law and order.
Ever since Mr. Adityanath took over the reins of the state, the bureaucracy is constantly on its toes.
It is an unusual sight to see that the parking lots at the secretariat here get full even before the clock strikes 9:25 in the morning. Ever since Mr. Adityanath took over the reins of the state, the bureaucracy is constantly on its toes.
Mr. Adityanath has proved himself to be a tough taskmaster, holding back-to-back meetings with ministers and bureaucrats well past midnight, only to return to office before 9.30 the next morning.
