The color issue I saw that may have been throwing you off in your beautiful artwork of bb mirabel with Bruno holding her is that she’s too white with yellow tones. Whereas her skin tone is yk Brown with rosy red undertones. While Bruno’s brown has more earthy undertones like yellow and greyish dark brown. Still amazing beautiful work that made my heart happy but I also have ocd and you said you couldn’t tell so I figured I’d let you know what I saw <3

Whenever I draw fanart, I always colour pick directly from a picture of the character (if I'm colouring it ofc) because I don't trust myself to make it look like them otherwise; also, it just looks more like them if I do it this way. As for the yellowish thing, the lighting of the picture is yellow and just from my experience directly colour picking from Mirabel, her skin does tend to come up orange toned. I do the same for Bruno (that is: colour picking) although, sometimes I do make him more ashen to signify his bad health, although when I do this, I always make sure that he doesn't read as white. But here, because he is younger and healthier, I made his skin darker, because I'm sure his skin would be pale after 10 years without sunlight. The issue at the time I was talking about was just general colour theory and if the colours bounce off each other well and guide your eye to their faces. I know Mirabel definitely looks bright, like her skin is significantly more pigmented and I was worried about it being jarring to look at-but as I said, I colour picked it and didn't want to stray too far from her official look, also, I don't say this to be rude but I honestly don't think she looks white/too white. In terms of whitewashing, I wouldn't consider something to be so if the skin is 0.009% different than the source material, does that make sense? In other words, if you can tell they're the race they are, it isn't whitewashed but this doesn't exclude people who make dark skinned poc look not like that, if a character is dark skinned, make them so but still, if the tone is 0.009% different, it isn't something to really fuss over.
