I also have a hard time imagining that he would take so much time off from his busy schedule to attend a Chanel show in LA when he didn't attend Fashion Week. I agree, though, he does look amazing in those photos (as always).

dramas I watched in 2022

The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (2022, my first cdrama, damn the ppl who brought this one down, will probably rewatch because now I get more about the cdrama tropes they subvert, Li Jiaqi hopefully will get more main roles despite this debacle)

Love Between Fairy and Devil (2022, tumblr loves it for good reason, so good, well written and gorgeous costumes and scenery, I laughed, I cried, I shaked my fist at communication failures, learned to like Yu Shuxin's voice, who doesn't like a story about a demon lord who lost all his emotions and regains them with the help of a cute fairy, cultivation in several senses xD, some songs made it to my spotify 100 most played songs of 2022 list, will rewatch now that it is on Netflix)

Word of Honor (2021, the hype has a reason it is so goood, started out not liking WKX, how the tables turned, hahahaha, side characters who rock, morally grey main characters yay, "A'Shuuuu", you don't need on screen kisses to feel the love, character dump was confusing as hell, somehow missed that WKX is also boss of Ghost Valley in the beginning bc of that. 🤣🙈 Taught me to rewatch the first episode a little bit into the drama to actually get what's going on when there are a lot of characters.)

Old Fashion Cupcake (2022, my first jdrama, cute office romance about finding joy in life again, will make you hungry)

The Rational Life (2021, watch it if you want soft, caring, loyal WH but it is actually about Qin Lan's character overcoming bullying at work and being a model employee in a car company (and promoting e-cars 😄), could have been shorter)

The Blue Whisper (2022, wrecked me with all the suffering but so good and pretty, Ren Jialun going from cutiepie to badass, rocking his ear jewellery, red flags but you ship them anyway, Diliraba and Guo Xiao Ting, another talk it out already yelling at the screen drama, going from hating SML and his attendand to pitying them, LuoLuo 🫶, side characters you will root for, some songs made it to my spotify 100 most played songs of 2022 list, story is by the author who wrote LbFaD, not set in the same universe)

The Romance of Tiger and Rose (2020, Zhao Lusi the Queen, much needed comedy after TBW, loved it, nothing like a writer caught in her own badly written drama world trying to rewrite it while the rules of the world she wrote fight against the rewrites. Su Mu and First Lady just needed to talk to each other aaaargh)

Who rules the World (2022, find yourself a person who looks at you like Hei Fengxi looks at Bai Fengxi, geez Yang Yang, Zhao Lusi is a delight in this, they wrote the two lead characters too perfect??, draws you in with wuxia, gives you a lot of palace drama, including emo first prince who deserved more screen time but they ran out of ideas for him, Writing, editing and fight scenes got worse in the 2nd half of the drama, I guess because the director had to leave, needed to give more side characters a life, the sismance is perfect)

The Untamed (2019, watching to be finished in 2023, I was intimidated by the amount of characters and episodes so only started watching late in the year and am glad I waited because now I know wuxia storytelling better and can fully enjoy it, taught me that you don't need great cgi, sets or fight scenes to tell a compelling story, Wang Yibo 🥹, Xiao Zhan 😼, great side characters)

Semantic Error (2022, my first kdrama, watched it because of this and was not disappointed, enemies to lovers at university, cute quick watch)

The Blood of Youth (2022/2023, just started, the character dump is a lot but it is a romp so far, despite the kinda choppy writing/editing, also geez Youku those youtube subtitles are too fast for my tired eyes)

As someone who enjoys series/movies like the UK North and South, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice, etc, where a small touch or little gestures can already be a big deal, slow burn romances in cdrama fit me perfectly. (The barbie kisses are something to get used to though. Props to Wang Hedi and Yu Shuxin who went for organic kisses once the feelings hit their characters.)

i mean im kinda into cpop so theres that! ive watched a good chunk of the idol survival shows and i know some of the actors too. im not really into tfboys or TNT but i have watched some of tfboys’ acting (易烊千玺 in one of his movies which was awesome. and 王俊凯 when he guest starred in that absolutely terrible matt damon movie) but overall im more into idols (mostly 创造营 groups, and also uniq so i know 王一博)

i actually discovered wei daxun through his appearance in an idol show as a guest 😭 i havent watched any of his dramas. but now i kinda want to, just to see if any of them radiate masaya energy LMAO

Episode 8 - WangXian go on a date & DON’T BLINK

Hello there, welcome to another Untamed commentary. To put everyone in the mood, it is Friday evening, one of those grey rainy days interrupted briefly by by brilliant burst of sunlight. I’m having a snack (chopped mango with yoghurt and a homemade matcha latte with honey), I just washed my hair, I’ve exfoliated, masked and moisturised. And everyone in this household is doing their own thing (napping, watching tv shows, more napping), I’m in a very good mood, so let’s go ahead with episode 8.

I think I’ve never commented on the intro credits before, I’ve seen people say they prefer to skip them because they find them spoilery, which they undoubtedly are. However, besides the absolutely stunning cinematography what I feel they aimed for is confusion. You’ve got this guy who’s kind of dark, but he’s crying and playing the flute, then some people are trying to kill him in some scenes, but in others he’s fighting back to back with the same guys and then there’s black smoke everywhere... I feel that, if I saw the credits I’d be intrigued enough to actively look for the drama and find out what the deal with the guy with the flute is.

And let me repeat something from the previous episode:

As a lover or thunderstorms at night when everything is still and quiet I would’ve stabbed WC up a nostril just on principle, so props to LXC for not murdering that clown. Never mind threatening his baby brother.

OH MY GOD. I’d forgotten this bit was in here. So you know when WWX has just caught up with LWJ and he throws him a loquat and complains about LWJ leaving him behind? I love the bit when he’s calling the Lans petty, and LWJ just goes “boring” and sweeps past him with this tiny sassy smirk and leaves WWX fucking processing for a second. I live for that kind of LWJ and that’s partly what my TimeTraveling!LWJ was based on.

WWX: *ties them with magic* isn’t this neat?

LWJ, internally: so he’s a genius dumbass, I’m fucked.

Ok now that we are a bit in I can safely say this is one of my favourite episodes. No, it is not because it is pretty much an episode-long WangXian date. How dare you.

LWJ’s internal monologue: I can’t believe in so in love with this dumbass. I’m moron-sexual the gods help me.

JC being a good bro and JYL being the fucking queen of the universe like she always is.

I feel LWJ’s aversión to crowds on a spiritual level.

I also feel NHS excelling just in what he likes so much. I mean, I was never a terrible student, but looking back at just the last six years in Med School my marks skyrocketed from a passing grade in stuff like physics and biophysics to top marks in things like neurosurgery; just due to the fact that I find neurosurgery way more interesting than physics.

THE PETAL SHOWER SCENE IS STUNNING. Also, if you don’t think WWX already had a crush on LWJ (and I am talking in The Untamed/CQL verse, I know that in the books he still thought he was straight) I’m pretty sure this is filmed just so we’d have visual confirmation that he is indeed crushing so hard. And I still don’t know if NHS is wingmaning or third wheeling. (Both? Both? Both? Both is good.)

I mean, NHS goes onto his “LWJ is stunning” monologue, and then WWX gives him kind of a disbelieving look. BUT THEN, he glances at LWJ (again being showered in flowers bc he wasn’t gorgeous enough on his own) and his face turns considering, he makes a stupid joke, and he goes back to looking at LWJ with the softest smile. I will fight anyone that dares tell me CQL!WWX hasn’t been crushing on LWJ since the Cloud Recesses.

Aaaaaand plot happens.

Oooof! The contrast between all the colourful flowers before and the burned blackened garden now. Ooooof.

Ok but that shadow bird is fucking cool and I want one.

WC’s head piece (guan?) makes me think of the Disney designs for Pain and Panic.

I know is wishful thinking, but if I wonder how different things would’ve been if WQ had snapped and offed WC when he was taunting her with the safety of her family.

Can I take a moment to rave about how clever WQ is? I mean, she’s already worried and scared for her family, she had absolutely no warning before JC ran into her and yet she managed to pull off that ruse to warn him about WangXian and NHS being in trouble in what, a few minutes? She’s so cool.

Ok, full disclosure here, I can’t see elderly people being sad, scared or worried, it reminds me of my maternal grandparents whom I adored and I get super sad.

(My dad still has his parents but they are terrible to my mum, dad and me, so they get no sympathy)

Funny story: I almost fell backwards the first time I heard “grandmother” used as a respectful term to an elderly lady back when I was living in Bulgaria (I moved back to Spain like a week ago, I’m over the moon to be home y’all). You don’t do that in Spain, calling someone who’s not your grandma “grandma” is really fucking rude.

Aaaaaand none of these knuckleheads know how to speak with a person in shock. They get a pass because all teens are knuckleheads in some measure but...

But if I heard a terrified lady muttering about soul snatching I’d fuck right off that village tbh. I’d take my chances sleeping in the woods with the roaming serial killers.

Y’all might not have noticed but I have not I’m not going to comment on the quality of the CGI/special effects/monsters. I’m aware this is a tv show and it doesn’t have the same budget as idk, a Marvel movie. I’m ok with them not being that believable. Same with unbelievable sword moves, I know shit all about sword fighting and even less about xianxia. Y’all might even be lucky enough to avoid my “bodies don’t work that way” rants, because again, everyone has magic, why would medicine be any different.

[brief interlude here, I had to go cat-hunting because we couldn’t find one of the cats, she likes to make a break for it sometimes, it’s a full on thunderstorm outside, almost sundown and she’s solid black. We found her in the basement exploring. Two of the other ones are in the kitchen with my mum and my big scaredy boi is under my bed. Also, this storm just reminded me that my dad is fixing the attic so I can have a “loft” next year when I start my residency and I can’t wait to fall asleep to rain up there.]

The Untamed Episode 46, My Commentary!

Spoilers, and several big emotional reveals, and it was all just so perfect!

Ohhhh JGY/QS’s son had to die or it would have turned out messed up like Joffrey then. Got it.

Yikes, everyone wants to kill JGY now. This is all too easy, isn’t it? Something feels off…

Someone is setting this up in order to take power afterwards, it seems like?

Can we go back to the pier and see happy scenes with WN and his baby Yuan?

WWX went to pay his respects to his late adoptive family, and JC told him he didn’t belong there. JYL would be soooo ashamed of you.

They’re trying to walk away and JC keeps attacking with the Zidian. This sucks.

Wow, WN is so smart, I did NOT give him enough credit. If JC can unsheath WWX’s sword, THE MOST IMPORTANT REVEAL OF ALL TIME THAT I’VE WAITED FOR FOR MORE THAN 16 YEARS WILL HAPPEN.

Lordy, LWJ is holding WWX’s lifeless body with a beautiful flowered tree behind them. It’s a gorgeous shot and yet somehow it’s not at the forefront of my attention span because this scene has so much.

So WN told JC while WWX was unconscious nearby in LWJ’s arms. This is some good shit. 

I’m getting high off it.

It’s a flashback to WQ/WN on the mountaintop doing the magic that gave JC WWX’s golden core.

Aaaaand now LWJ has WWX across his lap in a boat and for the second scene in a row, all I can think is “well damn, that would make a nice computer background.” (WN is in the boat too, but he’s not in the shot. The videographers know what we want to see.)

LWJ literally can’t even make eye contact with the now awake WWX because he’s feeling ALLLLL of the things and can’t risk WWX seeing the stakes are just too high.

Awwww poor baby WWX just got caught up in a daydream about JYL, the only person he’s ever felt that level of familial love from. I felt his pain there so much.

Sometimes I don’t think WWX actually understands the depth of LWJ’s love for him, because he’s frequently caught off guard by LWJ caving and giving him what he wants and like, as the viewer it’s simultaneously sweet and infuriating to see him kind of in the dark.

OMG THEY’RE EATING ALL OF THE LOTUS SEEDS. 

Not like 1-2. Literally all of them. Brilliant.

Straight out of that Parks and Rec meme. “Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. a part of this may have been washed already, who cares lol. that won’t stop us from doing some mental gymnastics to make it sweet cause it’s all cpn anyway. for me, i’m already happy with their unintentional ( or is it? ) couple outfit at the airport. and yibo wearing a shirt that says “sporty & rich” which is well — a fact. lol. and feeds into the whole “young master” vibe that fans are seeing with him lately.

take this as an exercise on how clowning works. and once we get more information, it gets “washed” or feel free to take what you want. this is related to xz’s post on weibo. i love analyzing his posts because it’s personal and i feel like it gives us more clues. the first thing will be the gorgeous flower arrangement. 💐

i was thinking maybe it was his drama wrap-up bouquet, but we didn’t get to see it in the bts.

the choice is interesting because it combines flowers and that same ( i forgot what it’s called sorry ) red/circular things we saw years back. that has it’s own cpn/backstory that i discussed here. basically, that’s not his bouquet from the OOL team when the show wrapped but that’s the photo (p1) that he shared. so we think it’s from Bobo. and now he shared (p4) that has lots of very expensive flowers. the other arrangement on his post was from Tod’s and looked more appropriate for Dragon Boat Festival. but this one looks more romantic if i do say so myself.

and the rose (juliet) given is esspensive!!! who could it be from? a certain sporty and rich guy? 😏😏😏

next is the damn plate with the fancy bite of zongzi. this one is what i think has been given some explanation ( washing ) from what we initially thought.

so we know xz is mister “centered” photos and everything. so it was weird that the one he shared is not. add the other element of it not being the same size etc meaning it was taken via wechat camera and probably sent off. another point is, we think it was taken by someone else. someone whose shadow gets included in photos he takes (p3 = yibo).

so is yibo sending what he is eating abroad? i mean it looks fancy!

but the people tracked down where this is from. it’s something that’s available at the blvgari hotel in shanghai. but you know what, if you still wanna clown that xz sent this to bobo and shared with all of us— then feel free 🤡🤡🤡🤡

the last one i find cuteeee cause remember when xz went abroad and he was wearing GUCCI re-web shoes? I swear even toxic solos picked up on that and hated on him. now you have WYB going abroad and wearing rolex DAYTONA ( very close to DAYTOY. yes i know he collect rolex watches like nikes but it’s a nice coincidence.

Start of Time

Wang Yibo had moved schools after an incident with the other Alphas, who had thought it would be cool and funny to verbally harass the Omegas. Most of the time, he hadn’t cared what happened in school, mostly focusing on his studies, or his skateboard and dancing. However, once, when he was leaving school, some of the other Alphas started trying to involve him in the harassment, asking his opinion and laughing obnoxiously.

So when he said the truth – that he thought the Alphas were stupid knotheads that couldn’t think with anything else besides their dicks – the Alphas went ballistic and he got into a fight. It was six against one, but he had thrown some good punches – breaking a couple of noses, and busting a couple of lips. In the end, he had been held down and beaten the crap out of him.

He didn’t regret it, though. That was a shitty school, with shitty students and even shittier teachers, who did nothing to stop the bullying or the fights. Now, he was starting a new school on the other side of the city, but he half-expected for it to be the same as the last school.

Which meant it was a big surprise when he found out that the President of the Student Council was an Omega. A well-respected, top of his class Omega.

Yibo hadn’t actually met the Omega until his second week on school. On his first week of school, the Omega had been away, probably due to physiological reasons – his heat – and on the second week, it was only on his lunch break that they met. They were from different classes, so they couldn’t meet in classrooms or laboratories.

During lunch, Yibo, being the lone wolf that he was, stayed in a secluded area of the school, skateboarding. Technically, it shouldn’t be allowed, but he had found this spot on his first week and there was no one around to reprimand him, so he just decided to stick around there.

However, as he was making one of his radical moves, someone came out of nowhere, and, to not run over the guy, he jumped out of the skateboard, but it was too late and they collided, tumbling to the ground. Yibo groaned, even though he was the one on top, having landed on something soft – and that smelt so damn good. Frowning, Yibo blinked his eyes open and tried to get up, but his legs and the other boy’s were intertwined.

“Shit, sorry.” Yibo said, and he was about to stand up when he looked at the boy’s face – and he was the most gorgeous Omega Yibo had ever seen in his entire life. Starstruck, Yibo forgot what he was doing, and just kept on staring at the beautiful boy underneath him.

This Omega smelt so good, and he was pretty and soft and Yibo wanted nothing more than to kiss those pouty lips. He looked even more handsome as he blushed, and Yibo knew he was infatuated already, even though he didn’t even know the boy’s name.

“It’s okay…” The boy said, averting his gaze, the tips of his ears completely red. “But can you get up?” It was Yibo’s turn to blush and he fumbled to get up, sitting to the side, giving one of his hands for the boy to hold and prop himself up. The Omega sat up, hand going to the back of his head as he winced at his touch.

“Fuck, did I hurt you?” Yibo said apprehensively, one hand hovering the Omega’s shoulder. There was something weird about this Omega, that made Yibo want to protect him, to take care of him, and being the one who caused the Omega to get hurt was only making Yibo even more anxious. However, the boy smiled, lowering his hand.

“It’s truly okay. I didn’t see you, it’s my own fault for getting in the way.” He tried chuckling, but then winced again, hand returning to his head.

“Let me take you to the infirmary.” Yibo said, standing up and giving his hand to the Omega once again, who accepted it graciously. Yibo pulled him up, and the boy staggered a little, falling forward, their chest touching, but Yibo held him before they could fall again.

The Omega seemed torn for a moment, but then he shook his head and opened such a beautiful smile that Yibo had to force himself to not move, otherwise he’d touch the boy, maybe even pull him for a hug. “I mean it, I’m okay.” Yibo still wasn’t convinced. “I’m Xiao Zhan, by the way. I don’t think we’ve met. Are you the new student?” Yibo nodded.

“Wang Yibo.” He said, simply, and the boy nodded, still smiling. “Let me take you to the infirmary.” He repeated, and Xiao Zhan chuckled in embarrassment, blushing beautifully. “I’d feel terrible if you end up having a concussion.” Xiao Zhan opened his mouth to speak, but Yibo just asked again. “Please.”

There was a moment of silence, Xiao Zhan clearly considering if he should accept or not. In the end, his smile softened, and he nodded. “Okay.”

The Untamed (( after rant ))

WOW I’ve not done one of these in about a year (literally I think my last one was in 2017). This adaptation was everything I could have asked for and more :’)

The amount of dedication and effort the cql team has put into the project is magical. not only do we get the drama, but we get SUCH beautiful production stills, gorgeous soundtracks (one for almost each and everyone of the characters!!) and so much behind the scenes content. Even the tiktok videos!!!!

I just hope they know the fandom loves and appreciates them so much because they really brought the entire novel to life so well. Sure, it may not be 100% the Best Thing Ever to everyone, but to me it definitely is. they included so many cute scenes and even added in better ones when they had to remove scenes (because of censorship).

Honestly i truly appreciate the fact that they stayed true to the novel and gave us two beautifully written and casted male leads, following the story closely. Of course they changed some parts of the novel, but I didn’t feel like they were bad changes. The story being tighter and neater in a way? Like the scene afterwards where WY and LZ are hiding in a haystack in a farmhouse. I liked that they combined it with the scene where they meet Miao Miao. So many little details like Jingyi’s chicken wing scene and Sizhui putting it back in his mouth, how Sizhui spoke to Wen Ning etc. were given careful attention, and it really shows how well put together this entire adaptation is.

While I’m sad that for the last scene they didn’t have Si Zhui hug Wangxian together as was written in the novel, I thought they changed it really cutely! To have the fully grown SiZhui hug WWX’s leg like when he was younger actually made me tear up while I was watching. Felt like this many times throughout the show, where the scenes weren’t exactly as the novel (for obvious censorship reasons) but I thought that they changed it so well. It still evoked similar emotions and in fact some of them were even better. While they couldn’t give us the blindfold kiss scene (damn it) they replaced it with Wangxian acknowledging each other as their soul mate which made it alright again :’)

There were so, so many cute moments in the show that I’m so glad they managed to portray! And the chemistry between Xiao Zhan and Lan Wangji was amazing. To whoever did the casting, YOU ARE A SAINT!!!!! The show is so so so so well casted, all the actors and actresses were great in their roles, i don’t think i have any complaints. I could go on and on forever about how Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo are absolutely all I ever wished for in live action Wangxian. Seriously, for me, it was like they were made for the roles. The juniors and the other secondary casts were especially well casted too, I enjoyed watching them onscreen and their chemistry together felt so genuine.

I’m also super amazed at the casting of Jin Ling and Jin Guangyao. The two really looked like they could be related. 

The ending truly killed me :( Everything was going so well and seriously, would it have killed them to show us a final scene of Wangxian reuniting after they separated? T.T I was in literal tears going, “omg no please don’t end like this why would you make them leave each other aahhhhhhh”. So upsetting to me. But overall I enjoyed this show SO much!! And we can look forward to the side movies that are coming out soon yay! Honestly can’t get enough of this story. I loved all the characters and the way they adapted the novel. One of the rare times when I feel that the show actually lived up to the novel :D Also, I really hope that people don’t keep complaining about how Xiao Zhan and Yibo may not be in the movies because that is not the POINT of the movies anyway. It is meant to expand on the secondary characters. But yessss this has been a great journey for me as a reader and watcher :D

i’ve finished ep one, and it’s good but alskjfdsfkjhdskj i also had to concentrate on it a lot more than i normally do when watching tv because damn my chinese skills are woefully Not Enough for me to understand this without having to pay full attention, so this series is likely going to be a slow watch for me!

but it’s a good! i like that the plot is moving along relatively quickly, and the sets are gorgeous. idk how i feel about yyqx yet but considering i said worse things about wang yibo three months ago, and would probably die for wyb now, maybe i should just keep my mouth shut??

oooooh are they not using voice actors for this show!
